I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there. I am trying to figure out how to use the onscreen keyboard. There are a lot of articles that just explain how to start it, but not how to use it.
I know how to access it. And it works when I enter letters in the search box of my browser. However, that's all it does. When I use it with a word processor, the keys do not respond. Strange. Also, when i click on alt+(number) on the numeric pad (which works perfect on a regular keyboard), it does not work at all. Don't get me wrong: it's not that I want to type a whole document with it. It should work, but it does not. I am stumped! Does anyone have an answer? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello all, I'm new here.
I just acquired a windows 8 computer due to my windows 7 laptop failing on me.
I got a really nice rig, and am looking into getting into game streaming so now onto the question.

I am looking for a program that will make a HUD of a keyboard in the corner of my screen, that will light up keys correspondingly to the keys I press.

Does anyone have any knowledge of a said program, or any way I could set this up myself?

Is there a way to automatically load the onscreen keyboard on the logon screen?

A:Onscreen Keyboard on Logon Screen

Try this.

1. Go to All Programs > Accessories > Ease of access > right click on OnScreen keyboard > SendTo Desktop. That gives you a shortcut on the desktop.
2. Start > type shell:startup > hit Enter. Now drag the shortcut from 1. into the startup folder. Close the folder.

Theoretically the OnScreen keyboard should be started when you load Win7. Have not tried it yet with the keyboard, but with many other applications that always worked.

PS: just tried it out. It works.

Hi Ollie!

Try holding the Windows Key then pressing R. In the Run windows copy and paste this (Without The Quotes) "%windir%\system32\osk.exe"

Method 2

Or if you want that on your desktop:

1. Right-Click on an empty area of the desktop.
2. Go to New and select Shortcut.
3. Copy and paste "%windir%\system32\osk.exe" into the box, WITHOUT THE QUATATION MARKS!
4. Call it On-Screen Keyboard, or whatever you want (it doesn't matter)
5. Click Finish

There should now be an On-Screen Keyboard Icon on your desktop.

If I helped, please rep me.

My young daughter with Cerebral Palsy has been using a spare Windows 10 Phone (1520) for a while and she mainly uses one hand because of the Palsy. She is only 6 so she can not type much either however she has long figured out how to put the cursor in the search box of youtube etc and then tap the speech icon and say the words and then search and find what she is looking for.
Well I just got her a little Windows 10 tablet from the Microsoft store and I now realize that the Windows 10 onscreen keyboard on the tablet is lacking that microphone/speech icon.
Anyone know if there are any options?
I already poked around in the ease of access and input settings.

Hi Folks,

I'm running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS, service pack 1. Last night I installed the following Windows updates:

The issue: When I restarted the system, the onscreen keyboard wouldn't start-up at the log-in screen (also tried to open the OSC at safe-mode log-in, but the same thing happens). In windows explorer, when I tried to open the windows onscreen keyboard, the following message box opened:

C:\Windows\system32\osk.exe, A referral was returned from the server.

Having Google searched this problem, it seems that in the last 24 hours, lots of people have been posting this problem.

I've checked cryptographic services (in both services.msc & task manager) and the service is running!

Will there be a further update to fix this problem?

Kind regards,

A:Onscreen Keyboard not working after windows update (11th Dec 2014)

KB3004394 has caused this issue among others. Uninstall it and you should get the onscreen keyboard back.

Microsoft has pulled this update from Windows update as well. I expect that it will be reissued when the problems are fixed.

Hello Wilson, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Check your startup programs to see if one of them may be for this. If it doesn't stand out, you could temporarily disable a startup program and test to see if it stops or not. If not, then you could enable the startup program again if you like.

How do you make the window text bold? When I go into window appearance options, the font settings are greyed out for window text. I have really bad vision and making everything bold would help. By the way, I already tried cleartype settings and that didn't help.

A:How to make onscreen/window text bold?

Hi Jgamer719

As far as I'm aware the only way to change the 'Window' font is via a registry change - Please see Change the default System Fonts in Windows 7 -

HOWEVER MAJOR HEALTH WARNING: Please backup your registry before attempting and don't try unless you are experienced with Registry Editing - you can cause yourself a lot of grief if you make a mistake.

I am using Word 2007 on a Vista Home Premium Machine with an Invidia 7600 video card.
When I view the words I type onscreen, the top of the letters are cut off. Does someone know how to correct this? If not does anyone know how to uninstall Word 2007 without unistalling Office Professional 2007 totally. I would think a reinstall would work but dont want to have to reinstall Outlook and other programs which are part of Office Professional.
Thanks in advance....Bruce

On my Gateway Solo 2500 laptop running Windows 98 Second Edition, the sound slows down and becomes garbled when something on the screen moves. I've heard that the video card driver is the problem as other people with the same graphics card (NeoMagic MagicGraph 128XD) started experiencing the same problem after updating the video card driver. I have also noticed that there will sometimes be no sound or the sound will stop working. In both cases, restarting brings the sound back.

I am running the latest video card driver. The sound card is detected in Device Manager as "NeoMagic MagicWave 3DX Sound System," but I have not checked for an updated driver. Any help will be appreciated.

Back in the days of DOS, I used to have a tiny utility that displayed a small "+" sign in the upper left corner of the monitor whenever the hard drive head was active. Anybody know if such a thing is available today, and from whom?

A:Solved: Software that displays disk activity onscreen

Your post made me think I'd like to have something like that myself, so I ran a Google search and found this little goodie. I downloaded it and when tried to install, a pop up window said I needed .NET Framework 2.0 50727 to run it. The prog offered to do it for me but since I prefer to do that kind of stuff manually, I canceled out and ran another search for the file. Found it on a Microsoft site and started the download using FDM. Since I'm on dial up and it's a pretty large file (22MB), I'll set up FDM before I go to bed to finish the download and then shut down my system.

Anyway, you can check out the link and see if you are interested.

A:just installed new motherboard,videocard,processer(AMD)and harddrive.nothing onscreen

1. first thing to check is your power connections. make sure that all required power connectors are plugged in. (20 or 24 pin ATX power connector, 4 pin CPU power connector, and video card power connector if applicable)

2. if all power connections are correct, then it is possibly a mobo shortage. make sure that there are only standoffs where there is a mounting hole/screw. if there is a standoff where there is no mounting screw then it will short circuit the mobo. this is a common newbie builder/upgrader mistake (don't worry we were all newbies at one time )

2. if you're sure that you haven't sorted the mobo, then check your RAM. "no video" is often caused by damaged, improperly installed, or incompatible RAM sticks. first verify that your RAM is the right kind for your mobo. if it is, then look in your manual for proper placement of RAM sticks, and try each stick separately.

I have Corel PhotoPaint and when I load an image into it, I can choose the following sizes (in percents): 2-5-10--25-33-50-100-200-400-600-1600 re ONSCREEN viewing.

All well and good. But often I would like to be able to select inbetween sizes even to being able to increase the steps by 5%; that is: 5-10-15-20-25-30 right on up to 200 or at least 100.

If you know of a program that does this, could you give me its name and source?

I only want to change the onscreen size; not the print quality or size.

A:Changing size of onscreen images with grapfics programs

I use Adobe Photoshop elements. It runs around $80-$100 usd. It allows you to zoom by clicking the zoom button on the floating tool bar pallete, and boxing in exactly what you want to see zoomed on the screen. The smaller the box the larger more zoom that is applied. If you make a box surrounding all but just the very edge of the image, the program will zoom in just enough to cut out that small outer band. In essence this allows you to zoom in at whatver increment you wish to zoom in at. This is also true for photomax pro, but I have not tried it in any other promgrams. SB

Does the keyboard require drivers? If so, then perhaps a reinstall of them might be in order. I have a problem when connecting a USB keyboard to a Dell XPS M1530 laptop. I think this problem happened after installing windows 7 a few months ago.

Basically what happens is, when I start the computer and run f.e. BIOS settings the keyboard works fine, but when entering windows log in screen the keyboard stops responding.

I've tried several USB keyboards and all show up in the device manager and seem to be fine. I've tried installing several versions of logitech setpoint drivers but none of it had any effect.

When looking for a solution for this problem, I've seen several people mention a BIOS setting called "USB Keyboard Support" and I think this is the problem but I can't find this setting anywhere in my BIOS.

Does anyone have an idea for a solution to this?

A:USB Keyboard not working AFTER startup

Yeah, I had this problem once after installing a new BIOS for my Gigabyte motherboard. There was indeed some type of option in the BIOS about USB keyboard support and the new BIOS had disabled that feature. Once I re-enabled it my keyboard was functional once again.

I also had this happen to a laptop at work...which happens to be Dell as well. I couldn't find anything within the BIOS referring to USB Keyboard support.....just like you mention. In this case, I believe we had to use Windows system restore and go back to the previous days restore point and it started working again.

Something (spayware or an exe) got loaded onto my desktop running XP and it is now inaccessible. Every time i restart the computer once it gets to the xp user sign on as soaryon as i touch the keyboard it locks up. i've tried starting in safe mode but each option takes me back to the sign in area and then the key board locks.

Does anyone have an idea on how to get back into the system?

A:XP Keyboard Lock at startup

Are you using a USB or a PS/2 keyboard? Try using the other kind...

You may be stuck doing a repair install if you cannot get into safe mode either.

When I try to select "Safe Mode" during start up nothing happens. I can access the Bios during startup but get to the screen to select Safe Mode nothing on the keyboard works. Neither the arrow keys or Enter does anything. All I can do is wait for it to count down and continue startup. After the computer starts the keyboard works just fine.,

I had this problem once and found that I had to hit the F lock key before hitting any F keys on start up.

Hello all I am using an older Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard and mouse on my Win HTPC This usually works wonderfully except when the new startup repair screens are shown These screens REQUIRE you to click a button or press Enter to Keyboard startup for No repair continue and will sit there for all etenerty until you do The problem is they are shown before the drivers for the bluetooth keyboard and mouse are loaded so I can No Keyboard for startup repair not click them with out stealing a wired keyboard or mouse from my other pc This seems like a pretty stupid choice to me as every other such option has some kind of time-limit on it so that it will automatically continue Is there a way to either have the startup repair screens default to some option after a short time or to completely disable them My baby likes to press the pretty blue power button on the machine and therefore I see that screen often and am getting tired of running for the keyboard every other time I want to sit and watch a DVD P Thanks

This seems like a pretty stupid choice to me, as every other such option has some kind of time-limit on it so that it will automatically continue.

Is there a way to either have the startup repair screens default to some option after a short time, or to completely disable them?

Hey gpiper welcome to Win7Forums! I believe I know where you change this at:

Boot into Windows 7
Go to ->start->type in Advanced System Settings hit enter->go to settings under statup and repair->change the wait time on recovery options time to your liking (also hit the check box bedise it if it has no check in it)

I have recently updated to 8.1 update 1 and noticed that there is a new icon (next to the time) in the taskbar to choose either the US or UK layout of the keyboard.
I have chosen the UK layout and wish to now remove this from the taskbar.

Is it possible to remove it from the taskbar?

A:US/UK keyboard icon in taskbar - How to remove

If you remove US as a language option for the keyboard layout the icon will disappear , it's only there as a way to choose between languages installed if more than one is available.

Are you sure that the screw is into the keyboard and not the plastic under the keyboard? My parents have a newer inspiron laptop and it takes about 30 seconds to get the keyboard out. Remove bezel, unscrew keyboard, turn keyboard over and unclip the connector.

I need to change the display connector on my notebook, already removed HDD, Memories, ODD, all screws F2, F5, F8, and the keyboard plate is still blocked in the middle, cannot remove it from motherboard.
Any tips, please, about what is still tightening the plate to motherboard?

Thanks in advance

Before you start to remove screws that secure keyboard (two of them at the top) remove screws for KB Holder. They are placed under the battery.

After removing iks.sys [invisible keylogger stealth] I can't use my keyboard
At the very first keystroke my system [win xp] crashes.
In the control panel [system-hardware], I can see that the keyboard doesn't
work properly (driver file is corrupted), but I can't fix it.
The driver files are i8042prt.sys, kbdclass.sys. If you have them, please send me.

I'm in serious trouble, please help me out.
Thank you

As a long time Mac user, I've recently acquired a Surface Book. As I'm in the UK, I use English (UK) as my display language, but the keyboard is US (the computer was purchased in the US). All this seems logical and I had the system working for a while and then for some reason, it reverts to the UK keyboard even though that is not an option under the available input methods or under the keyboard in Settings. I don't understand how the system can use a UK keyboard when technically it isn't installed. I even tried removing the UK display language, but that too remains despite it not showing up in the Settings panel under Languages.

Hi there

I have bought a Toshiba Satellite R630-14J, and i would like to remove de keyboard for clean it.
I have tried to remove the plastic case between the keys, but I have not succeeded.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

A:Satellite R630-14J -How to remove keyboard?

My friend has an R700 which I think is the same design as that R630. If it is the same, it is a big job to remove the keyboard, the whole base of the notebook needs to be dismantled.

You can clean the keyboard without removing it using compressed air, however if it's a liquid spill, the keyboard will probably need replacing.

Hey, quick question.

How do I remove the keyboard from the laptop to give the inside a cleaning ?

A:How to remove keyboard on my Satellite Pro C850-14C

I read that this is not very easy?
You will need to remove the CD/DVD drive firstly.
Then you will need to use a plastic stick to push the back of keyboard from the slot in ODD housing. The keyboard should be pushed until the corner raises upon top case surface.
After that using the same plastic pry slice to insert the gap between keyboard and top case, then pry keyboard edges carefully until all latches are unlocked.

By the way: doing this would will cancel the warranty?

Not sure if this is the correct forum for my question but can anyone help with how to replace the keyboard on my son's laptop, a pavillion 15-P264na?Many thanksJohn

A:remove HP pavilions 15-P264na keyboard

Start on p. 46 of the Service Manual here: Manual The keyboard is part of the whole top cover not a separate part. You can buy just a keyboard on eBay but there are no separate instructions for how to remove it from the top cover and replace it. An experienced tech can figure it out but without instructions a novice would have no chance. HP provides the replacement keyboard only as part of the whole top cover.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

When I try to open Keyboard settings to remove this language, windows error arises and system suggests using appropriate debugger. I want to remove this input language entry from registry, but was unable to locate appropriate registry key. Thanks in advance.

I have a Dell 3647 Desktop computer running windows 8.1 with a Sony keyboard that is PS/2 connected via USB converter.

My keyboard freezes or hangs upon startup/booting with the green NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK & SCROLL LOCK lights all on. The mouse and computer, however, are not affected and I can load programs, websites, etc. using the mouse to scroll around.

I wind up needing to shut down [rebooting does not help as lights do not go off until system is fully turned off] in order to get the keyboard working again.

The keyboard works fine otherwise--even after all these years.

BTW, if everybody wonders the reason I am still using a 15 year old antiquated PS/2 keyboard, it is because the old style keyboards have keys that are raised and not flat and with my disability, it makes it easier for me to type.

That's all I can tell you. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi I ve had the same USB Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard for about years now They ve Always worked fine but within the last year or Startup Mouse Keyboard @ Issues USB & two I ve noticed that at some start-ups the computer doesn t recognize them For example the PC would load windows xp pro but the optical mouse won t respond I have to unplug it from its USB port and replug it back in the same port for it to be recognized Today the keyboard showed that it had power but the PC wouldn USB Mouse & Keyboard Issues @ Startup t recognize it I simply restarted the computer and everything was working fine This doesn t happen that frequently In fact I d say its a rare occurrence but I d like to figure out why it happens Could it be that both items are just getting on in years and needs to be replaced If it was the USB ports with the issue how would you go about diagnosing that I didn t think it was the USB ports themselves because the mouse and keyboard have never quit outside of the rare occasion of the startup failures Could it be the Operating System I m on a new computer now one that I assembled myself I took alot of anti-static measures but I admit there were times my anti-static bracelet wasn t attached to the computer case and I was handling the mobo and the processor so I was wondering if I fried the usb ports Though that seems unlikely considering that the ports have never failed outside of the already mentioned rare startup failures also I ve had the mouse and keyboard attached to my old notebook and they ve displayed the same behavior before Any help is greatly appreciated ty nbsp

I have a Dell Inspiron 531 with Windows Vista Home Premium. At startup I get a black screen and message: Keyboard failure. has anyone had this problem? This happened once before, but turning it off and on a few times and typing the default four zeros on the keyboard brought it back. Doesn't want to work this time. Wireless mouse & keyboard. It came with backup disks if that would do it. Any help would be appreciated greatly. Thanx DDD
