Hi Folks, if I open my browser by clicking an email link, the scroll bar is missing, opening FF from desktop shortcut works.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You may want to create a new profile to see if there is a problem with your profile or some extensions you can do this to test for problems.
Click on the Start Button and if you have it on the right side of the start menu click on Run if it is not there type "run" without quote marks in the search box and choose Run.
In the Run box type "firefox.exe -ProfileManager" without quote marks and click OK
Click on Create Profile you can also uncheck don't ask at startup now.
Follow the Wizard and click Next.
Enter new profile name and click Finish.
Make sure that you have unchecked don't ask at startup and select your new profile and click on Start Firefox. This profile manager box will open each time you start Firefox until you check the Don't ask at startup box again.
After you have tested your new profile you can check the don't ask at startup box again and you will not get the profile manager starting each time you start Firefox.

I have an HP desktop running Windows XP, and everytime I use the mousewheel or the scrollbar to scroll up or down in IE or Outlook2003, the computer shuts completely down. I tried updating the drivers for the mouse, uninstalling and reinstalling them, I tried different mouses, and I can't seem to find a source for the problem. When the system shuts down I never get the "Win XP Has recovered from a serious error" message. Id appreciate any help I can ge>>>>

^^, but I still want to keep the scroll bar. Its just the arrows which I want to get rid of.

Additionally, it it possible to make the scroll bar transparent but still keep the box that move (or change opacity settings at all)?

What about changing the color of the scroll bar? I always have trouble seeing the box because it is gray on gray.

Just received my yoga and downgraded to windows 7, even with the vertical scroll set to one line, the trackpoint is very sensitive. Also there is a initial lag with the trackpoint scroll, if I'm using the trackpoint for the first after a webpage turn, the first light touch is not registered, you have move the trackpoint very hard, which caused the page to move very fast down the page. Overall using the trackpoint on the yoga 460 (maybe with W10, it is different), has been an aweful experience so far, is there a patch or update that I didn't know about? Btw, I have Elan pointing device installed, I can not find Ultranav anymore, why is that? Elan pointing device seem to have less function than Ultranav.

Sounds like video drivers aren't installed. It does that when you are using xp's standard vga drivers. Go to your laptops manufacturer's page and look in there support section for your model, and in there find the appropriate video drivers.

Yeah, title says it all. But really, I think they should do something about the look and feel of the scroll bar on the metro start menu. What do you think they should do?

Because I would enjoy it a lot more if it were just a single white bar with no background that only appears when you hover over it. What would you guys have it be?

hi guys,

had a similar problem in the past. Solution was to go to advanced in I.E. options and do a reset, then restart.

But since z few days I.E. 11 is installed, automaticaly, and since then i cannot scroll in a webpage anymore.

Anyone with a solution?

Hi there. Has this been happening since last updates? Have you performed a disk cleanup lately? I'll assume scrolling work everywhere else.

Not sure if it can be uninstalled and reinstalled anymore, but see if you can disable it, reboot,
then enable it again. Install or uninstall Internet Explorer - Windows Help

You can adjust your screen with the buttons on the front of the monitor. One of the buttons will allow you to move the entire screen to the left. Try that.

I have an HP Touchscreen, with Vista Ultimate x64. For no apparent reason, in any program (or online), my cursor will constantly bounce back to the the beginning of the line after each keystroke (as a result i am typing backwards). It will also not allow me to scroll or arrow down. It bounces the screen back to the top of the page. Help!!!!!!

A:Cannot Scroll

Yep, you definitely need some help. If you have an HP, you probably have the Synaptics touchpad -- if so, here's a list of most of the customization settings, and I've mentioned how I set mine, as a reference point. You, of course, will choose your own settings, but at least you'll have a bit of a guide. Pay special attention to the Palm Check and Touch Sensitivity settings.

Right click Desktop to open Personalize
Scroll down and select: MOUSE POINTERS; this opens MOUSE PROPERTIES page.
Select: Right-Handed (or Left-Handed if you?re left handed.)
DOUBLE CLICK SPEED: I set the slider to the slowest setting (if too fast, double clicks won?t open files)
Click Lock: No
Select a POINTER SPEED: I set mine at the fastest ? makes the touchpad fly (This technically controls the mouse buttons, but also makes the touchpad feel faster)
Check: Enhance pointer precision
In the Visibility section, check: Hide pointer while typing
Click the Settings bar:
Click on Overview to open the tree and read the overview of the controls.
BUTTONS: Double click on Buttons to open the tree and set the controls:
Left Button Action: Primary Click
Right Button Action: Secondary Click
VIRTUAL SCROLLING: Double click on Virtual Scrolling to open the tree and set the controls:
Check: Enable vertical scrolling and horizontal scrolling
Coasting: No
Edge motion when scrolling: No
SCROLLING SPEED: Set slider for scrolling speed. I set mine at the slowest
SCROLLING SELECTION: I checked: Scroll item under pointer (for a broader scrolling area)
EDGE MOTION: Select the Edge Motion you want. I chose Perform Edge Motion when pointing and dragging
Select your Edge Motion Region and Edge Motion Speed. I selected: Control motion with finger and set my slider at medium-slow.
Constrained Motion: No
Slow Motion: No
Sticky Borders: No
SENSITIVITY: Double click on Sensitivity to open the tree and set the controls:
Double click on the + icon to open tree
PALM CHECK: I left my Palm Check at the default spot, near center but a little toward Maximum (If mouse gets erratic, increase toward Maximum. If mouse is not responsive to certain clicks, decrease toward Minimum)
Light Touch ? I set my toward the most sensitive -- all the way toward Light Touch
Click on Apply, and then OK.

I have an Alienware laptop with Windows XP Home Edition (Service Pack 2 pre-installed) and I can't scroll with the mouse pad. I just recently installed an update, and I don't know if that caused it, but it doesn't work. I can scroll by clicking a scroll bar or using the arrow keys, but that's it. Help please?

A:I can't scroll.

Im not too sure if this will help based on the problem you described, but you can try this:

(Windows XP)
Start > Control Panel > Mouse > Scrolling
make sure everything checks out, as in the same mouse listed there is what you actually are using.
click to enable vertical scrolling

Visit the alienware website support section. Looks like you'll have to register. Anyway, find the drivers section for your particular model. Download the mouse driver and reinstall it.

If I try to scroll to the bottom of a page, it automatically goes right back to the top. If I try to hold it down the picture shakes. It does the same on Firefox and IE. I plugged in my USB mouse and the problem persisted. Anyone have a clue?

I installed the Kensington Optical mouse thing and decided I didn't like it and uninstalled it (software, drivers). The problem is that it changed something in my system so that my scroll wheel on the old mouse doesn't work anymore. Pressing it down and moving the mouse works, but just turning the wheel doesn't do a thing. This action does work in the games I play (Halflife, Soldier of Fortune <--Buy this game!!!). It isn't a major problem but it is rather annoying to have to scroll web pages the old-fashioned way (grrrr....)

Scroll mice require installation too. Is it an intellimouse? Or what? Try doing a search in your friendly neighborhood search engine for the name/model of your mouse and see if you can't get to a page where you can download a driver for it.

If you don't understand, just let us know.

Horizontal SCROLL BAR at bottom of screen disappeared on Excel 8. I have Windows XP 2007 edition. How do I retrieve bottom scroll bar?

A:Scroll bar

Have you accidentally made it really small? It happened to me once!

Check if you have two tiny vertical rectangles at the far bottom right of your screen, on the same level as the worksheet tabs. If so, then hover your cursor over the left one and then drag it to the left. You can change the length of the scroll bar without (I think!) changing how it works, so you may have reduced the length to the point where it *seems* to be invisible.

If it's not that, then you may have turned it off. Occasionally I have accidentally hit Ctrl+ a letter when I meant to hit Shift+ a letter and have executed shortcuts that I didn't even know existed. Here's how you turn the scrollbar on again.

Click the round "Office" button
Click "Excel options"
Click "Advanced"
Scroll down to the "Display options for this workbook" section
Tick the box for the horizontal scroll-bar.
Click OK.

I hope this helps!

hi fangovk,
Welcome to the Forums.
If you have an ELAN Touchpad, it's likely that the feature is disabled in the registry. Try to check this article on how to enable these hidden features then reboot the machine and observe if you now have an Edge Scroll (a.k.a. One Finger Scroll) option.

The procedure requires you to merge a registry file to enable all the ELAN features. Ensure that you create a System Restore point or a registry backup just in case you need to revert back the changes.

Times it will alos keep jumping to the last page if you try and drag the bar up to a certain page. This is a very anoying problem and I have no clue how to fix it or why it happened. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?

Press Fn + C. This is the key combination for Scroll Lock. I found this out by mistake when trying to press CTRL+C, as I have Fn and Ctrl reversed and sometimes forget that if I look down at the keyboard.

HI, forst post here.

My mouse's scroll stopped working not so long ago, so I bought a new one and the scroll was dodgy at first but then completely stopped working. How can I get it to work?

Both were USB mouses, the first was a standard 3 button, but the new mouse is a 5 button gaming mouse.

Is it my computer that is blocking scroll or did i just happen to get 2 faulty mouses?

Both mouses have seperate manufacturers.

Is there anyway to fix this? This new mouse is pretty decent and dont wnat to buy another if its a problem with my PC...

A:Mouse Scroll

Hello Vitalic.....You may update your mouse driver by going in to Control Panel => hardware and sound then choose Mouse go Hardware tab, click on Properties then click on Driver tab and choose update driver, have your Driver ready for this mouse, if you don't have one you may obtain and download online by googling it.

I'm working with extjs.
I have created a panel with many divs in it.
The panel has a vertical scroll. The scroll works fine with all browsers.
There is one issue with IE8:
When I click with the mouse on the scroll, it takes a few seconds (~5 seconds)
until the browser identifies the click and the scroll starts to move.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

A:Scroll of a populated div

Although you can adjust scroll speed, the time it takes from computer to mouse is based on the computer itself (OS, RAM etc.). You could try a different mouse, or if you're using an external USB connector, try plugging the mouse directly into the computer. The fact that IE8 produces different results from other browsers might be a result of "clutter" or ad-ons. Try clearing cache and running "bare".

Sounds like it could be that your keyboard or mouse has gone bad. Try swapping either out with one from your older computer.

Hi all,

I have a Philips freevents laptop and find it works well for what I use it for (browsing the internet and emailing).

I have a small problem in that the scroll lock key seems to be premanently on. i.e. when editing email, i cant use the arrow key to move the cursor back one letter, additionally the delete key does not work. The delete key is the scroll lock key when using the function key.

I have tried to switch off the scroll lock by holding the blue function key and pressing the delete key, but this has no effect.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution you guys can assist me with this frustrating issue. I hope the issue is just me missing the obvious.

I have a problem with IE7 auto scrolling on every page.As soon as I enter a site eg here, the page starts scrolling in a slow jerk up and down. I right/left/ double click either on the page or side bar and it will stop it scrolling and as long as I then use the up/down/left/right keys it is ok but as soon as I use the mouse wheel again it starts the page moving up and down again.

I also use Firefox and it doesn't happen there. It is only IE7 i have this problem with. I find it very irritating and would like to find how to turn it off.

Thanks in advance for any help,

A:Ie7 Auto Scroll.

There are at least two kinds of "AutoScroll". One in which the scroll-rate can be accelerated by moving the mouse pointer away from its anchor icon. If that's the one you're using perhaps you just need to move the mouse pointer closer to that icon? See if This Micro$oft KB article helps.

I am using Power Point 2002.

A:PPt credits won't scroll

Is the slide show on "loop until ESC"? Check & see how the slide transition is set. Go to SLIDE SHOW - SLIDE TRANSITION. Your final slide with the credits should be set for "manual" (meaning advance with a click) If you want to set it for a certain time limit, click "advance after XXX seconds". Then you will have to time the slide to allow enough time for all credits to run before advancing to the next slide.

See if this helps, if not, let me know & I will try to set up a credit slide & run it.

Excel 2007 with Vista.
The look of my worksheet has changed! It looks like a 'minimized' sheet. And, I have lost the horizontl scroll bar and therefore I cannot get to the other worksheets in the workbook.
I went to Excel Options > Advanced > and both, horizontal & Vertical scroll bars are checked. How can I fix this problem.

A:Scroll Bars

While Excel will be maximised, the worksheet itself sounds as though it is minimised.

On the worksheet (not on the main Excel page) use the cursor on the worksheet title bar (not the Excel title bar) and drag it until you can see the minimise/maximise/x on the worksheet itself, then maximise the worksheet, which should fix the problem.

Open Notepad and paste enough text into it to fill a few pages, then try scrolling up and down. Does it lag in the same way your browsers do?

Download the latest compatible driver from the graphics card manufacturer's website, install and reboot.

Or if you have onboard/integrated graphics, download the driver from the motherboard manufacturer's website.

When my bottom scroll is all the way to the left, the up and down scroll works fine.
When all the way to the right, up-down will not work.
If I move the bottom scroll a tiny amount left it is fine.

Thanks in advance, for any help with this annoying problem.

A:Scroll Not Working

1) Press [Ctrl][-] (control-minus) a couple of times to reduce the size of the page.
2) If it's then too small to read, you need a bigger screen.
BTW, you can press [Ctrl][+] a couple of times to return to the original size page.
