I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If I add %USERPROFILE%\AppData (as opposed to %APPDATA%) to a library and use File History to back it up, will File History back up its own store (%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory)? I am aware of the ability to exclude specific
folders, but I would still like to know the answer to this question.

I thought the problems went away but they did not. Each time I go into Internet Options and hit the delete History icon the process starts but never ends, it just keeps running. I do not have a lot of history to delete and I can't find a solution to correct the problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Hugh

I noticed this morning, when I was trying tocorrelate a problem I was having with Quicken, that my update history is missingfrom Settings\View your Update History. I realize that I can see it in ControlPanel\Programs\Programs and Features\Installed Updates but I?m curious if thereis a way that I can bring this info back to Settings.

When MS does a comprehensive update, it resets the Windows version type and wipes all prior updates from the Settings/Windows Update/Advanced options/View your update history.

In IE I could right click the back arrow and see my history and select a previous page, I can't do that in Edge. I right click-nothing, I left click and hold and nothing.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix?

Thanks

A:Edge-When I right click back arrow it shows no history

Yes, everybody has a problem because that ability no longer exists. During testing, I turned in Feedback to MS three different times complaining about that but they haven't listened. I use that facility quite often each day in the work I do.

Hi,

For some reason, my firefox every once in a few days loses it's history. Why does this happen and what can I do to fix this and keep all my history?

I hate having to retype all my favorite sites in Firefox address bar again. Under Tools, Options then History I tell Firefox to remember pages visited for 30 days all the way to sometimes 100 days just to see what happens but Firefox ALWAYS loses my history every week or two.

Does anyone know why this happens and what programs might be causing this? Maybe a certain setting?

Thanks!!

My History I have noticed in the Library is stored back to January, I am not sure what this does in terms of RAM, however it seems like a lot to me, I don't know what other effects like trackers and hitchhikers it has, but I checked in options and I have it checked to keep my history for at least 5 days, . . until now I thought that it was saving 5 days worth of history, how can I safely change this and keep about 5 days there?

A:Firefox - History

Give this a try...

from within Firefox, go to "about:config". Accept the warning. Filter on "history_expire_days".

Set to 5 days:
browser.history_expire_days
browser.history_expire_days.mirror
browser.history_expire_days_min

The title question pretty much asks it all.

I have a desktop running win 8.1 pro and use File History to create backup of libraries etc to an external drive.

My wife has a laptop running Windows 7 on the network and part of a Homegroup. I wold love to be able to backup some of her files to the same external hard drive using File History, but I don't think this is possible, or if it is I haven't figured out how.

I have included her relevant folders in a library shared with me and visible in Homegroup, but File History does not seem to be able to back it up since the files themselves reside on another computer.

Of course I can physically copy her files to the backup drive periodically, but I like how File History runs quietly in the background.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

A:Solved: Can Win 8.1 File History back up files from a networked computer?

The short and to the point answer is NO
She can of course use Windows 7 backup and restore and choose which files to backup - rather than allowing windows to choose - as the latter also creates the image - and she can of course backup to the same external as you

I use Firefox v1 browser and i was wondering if it were possible and if so which applications could block entirely information being stored in the cache and internet history in firefox. I do not mean applications that deleate information once the information is inside the cache and history folder i mean an application that would prevent any information going there in the first place is this actually possible as far as i am aware the sole purpose of the cache is simply to speed up web page opening, but i would rather have security than speed.

Does anyone know of any applciations which may possibly do this

Hi

Firefox has a great file for those who want a *precise* rendering of every link of every web page visited for however many days of history a user wants.

IE might have somethng similar, and i was wondering if so, where is that file located?

one of the nice things about the FF history.dat file, is it is located in an area where the computer can actually open the file and look at it without taking special steps.

*hopefully* if IE has such a comprehensive history file showing the links, it is as easily accesed.

i hope somebody can help me out with this.

thanks in advance!

Hello all,

I'm cleaning my PC, defrag, clearing temp files, etc... On Firefox I want to completely remove all cookies and history.

Even though I set it to do so, see pic below, as soon as I go to a site that requires a username and password and enter the first letter it adds the rest or the username, even the password.

Whats the easiest way to clean everything out.

A:Firefox 3.6.13 clear history

Ticking site preferences will clear out things like cookie settings, etc but your saved username and passwords will remain, until you delete them. (I'm glad that clear history doesn't wipe out the saved user names though, that'd be such a hassle having to re-enter everything.)

Clearing user names and passwords: Tools > Options > Security > Saved Passwords > Remove all

Edit: You probably just delete the firefox profile if you want that a clean wipe done

also when i go to cmd and type file directory for ff3hr and then ff3hr -i ... i get error message

A:Firefox 3 history recovery

Given the problems the poster from that thread had, I don't see why you would want to use ff3hr at all but it sounds to me like you didn't install it. In Computer/Windows Explorer open the folder in which ff3hr should be installed. Is it there? Is what's there an executable file, or is it maybe still a zipped archive?

As for the system image, that depends on what type of image you want. Many backup programs (including Windows 7 Backup) will make images, but they ignore areas of the hard disk that purportedly contain no data. Forensic imaging programs copy those areas too-and that's what it sounds like Winhex is. (I'm not familiar with that program though, so I could be wrong.)

I run WinME (probably the worst OS there is =P), and have Firefox 1.5.0.8. I've attached a picture of what it looks like when I go to my Firefox history. On my friends' pcs, and all others (which are WinXP, duh =P), the history is grouped into folder(s). For example, all the tech support forum.com pages you've visited would be all under a 'techsupportforum' folder in the history section. On this (as you can see), they are all separate. It is almost unbearable sometimes.
So.. is there any way I can make it so that my history is grouped into folders, like when on a WinXP? I imagine there's some kind of plug-in or addon. There are some pretty ridiculous (yet intelligent) pugins for Firefox, afterall. But still... is there any way?

Thanks for reading.

Also, is Firefox 2 worth getting? Is it much improved? Oh! And would it solve this problem? Thanks.

Hi, FireFox has lost my History and Bookmarks. I tried to import bookmarks, it won't and I tried checking boxes to make Bookmarks and History come back, it doesn't. I upgraded to Firefox 12, didn't help. The "back" button doesn't work either.

Google text is black instead of blue and the cursor (little hand) is missing when on most links. Just a vertical line now. After a while FF crashes.

About the time this started I downloaded an install application for Ulead photo editing program from phpnuke.org but canceled the program download because it was going to take 2 hours. I ordered a camera online about the same time too. Would these mess up Firefox history/Bookmarks?

I ran AVG and MalwareBytes, no infections found.

If I switch to a different user, Firefox works perfect, no crashes, history and Bookmarks all work too.

Its windows 7, all Microsoft updates. Help please. Thank you.

A:Prevent deletion of Firefox History?

Hi,

I am not sure that there is a definitive way to prevent someone from blocking access to the history. I do have a couple of ideas for you though. I don't know if you have tried this but you said that you have a SBS running as home. Have you tried to look at the logs to see if you can see anything that looks questionable.

Another option is to look at the logs of your router. This may be a daunting task but it will get it done for you.

A third option is to set up a proxy. Having a SBS I am sure that you can set up a proxy to allow and deny certain sites or place from being accessed. As a linux guy myself I have some experience with this from a program called Squid. But that is a linux proxy and I don't think that it would work on Windows. I have digressed. I would start with those options and see where that takes you.

If you need some help with any of this just let me know and I can see what I can do for you.

Cheers!

I'm having an issue with my browser's history - it keeps disappearing. Firefox has always been set to "Remember history," but a few weeks ago I've noticed that it disappeared. The first web page accessed that showed up was on September 26. Now it's October 21, and the first website accessed appears to be on October 13. I'm completely sure that nobody has deleted the browsing history, as there's only me and my boyfriend who use this laptop.
Can this be due to the fact that the laptop is running out of space? The bookmarks haven't been deleted, but I'd like to solve this issue - it's very bothersome.
Or can it be because the laptop needs to have WinXP reinstalled? I haven't reinstalled it since last year. What can I do?

Many thanks!

Good Morning,

I have a teenager at home who LOVES to delete the internet browsing history on our iBook, OS X 10.6.8, via Firefox. We would love to be able to recover this data to see what he's doing. Is there any way to do this without him knowing?

Thanks!

A:Recovering Firefox Browsing History

Hi ladyvol and welcome to TSF!

I don't think there is an easy way of doing it without file recovery software. you could check this page out and see if it's methods are any good in mac. How to Restore Deleted History in Firefox | eHow.co.uk

If that fails to work, apparently in windows you can perform a system restore to bring back the history in firefox so if there is a similar program like osx recovery installed in your computer then you can try that,

Hope this helps a bit,

Steve

What about a few months ago? If so, how can I do that?

A:Recover Deleted History In Firefox That Is A Few Years Old?

Depending upon the settings in FF, History can be recalled 1 day, 1 week, 1 month; maybe 1 year+ ago - if the history cache has never been cleaned.

I have Windows XP Pro, SP3, and use Firefox 3.

When I go to a forum, and create a message, I always "select" it, and "copy" it to the clipboard so I can go to other forums and just "paste" it in. After I do this I click the Subject/Title area twice and a drop down list comes down out of the Subject/Title area with all the previous "Subject/Titles" I've used, and then I can just click on one to select it. There are getting to be quite a few now. I'd like to be able to go in and delete them all. Can somebody please tell me how to do this?

Thanks,

royeo

A:How can I delete the Subject/Title history in Firefox

Tools | Options
Privacy Tab
Check box for Ask before clearing Private Data
Click Clear Now... button
Uncheck all but Saved Form and Search History
Click Clear Private Data Now button

If you don't want to delete Search History, or other Form info, you have to do them one at a time:

Double click in the Form box to show the list
Point to one with the mouse
Press Delete
Rinse and repeat

A:Does anybody know any safe Firefox history viewing software for XP?

I am not sure what you are after. You can view your history inside of Firefox. If you cleared history or have the option checked to clear history on exit then no viewer will find your history.

Here is a utility to view Firefox history that works on XP and Vista and provides more info then Firefox's own History viewer.

In your Profile folder you'll find a file - places.sqlite. This contains your bookmarks and history.

On occasion, I do go onto a few 'adult' sites. Hey..I can't be the only one here. Cmon...

Anyways, I have about 20 bookmark and the 'adult' site is NOT one of them. So when I clear my browsing history, it normally clears everything except for bookmark sites.

However, recently, I can't seem to get rid of the 'adult' site. Whenever I use the drop down bar, there it is....."Meatygirls.com".....j/k. I go to "Tools", "Clear private data", and make sure browsing history is checked along with everything else, and clear but it still shows up. I even run Window Washer and that still doesn't do it. It's still there.

How can I get rid of this pesky website on my browser bar? Any suggestions?

then in the filter bar type browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped and change to true to do this right click then select toggle.
then just below that entry will be browser.urlbar.maxRichResults change this to -1 right click then select modify

after doing this there will be no urls in the address bar.

Everytime I start Firefox something changes the History configuration at Tools ==> Options ==> Privacy. I reset it to "Remember history" and it remains that way until I close Firefox.

Until the past month or so, the configuration was "Remember history" and remained unchanged when starting Firefox. Then it began changing to "Use custom settings for history" when the program starts. And I have to change it back manually to "Remember history". (My banking web site seems to only work with the "Remember history" option selected.)

How can I get the Firefox history configuration to stay where I want it?

Windows 7. Firefox version 21.0.

Thanks.

I have a question about Clearing the Cache and Browsing History Upon Closing with Firefox. I have gotten into the Settings and have instructed Firefox to clear the cache and browsing history upon closing by going to Tools>Privacy>Clear History When Firefox Closes. From there I click on Advanced>Settings for Clearing History, where I check both Browsing and Download History and Cache.I have been careful to make sure no other setting contradicts that. Yet, if I run C Cleaner after closing my Firefox browser, it can take up to thirty five minutes for it to clear the Firefox Internet Cache, with most time taken in C:\Users\AppData\ while clearing over 9,000 files . Am I doing something wrong or is Firefox ignoring me? This has been the case with all versions of Firefox since at least Version 38.0. I'm less interested in opinions about Firefox and more interested in solving the problem. Thanks.

A:Firefox Browser Doesn't Clear Cache or History as Instructed

Do you have Firefox 38.0?
The current version is 48.0.2
I ask it, because Firefox doesn't have those buttons and options. Or, I can not hardly understand about what kind of buttons you're talking about.

But it is true that if you have a cache enabled, by default the cache files are saved in the AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox folder. However, can disable cache at all. And as well, you can send cache files to any place. It is your choice.

I noticed a few days ago after returning home from Chicago that all my Firefox history, saved passwords, active log-ins & most visited sites all disappeared from my browser. so I re-log-in to all the sites that I currently had accounts on just to find that 70% of them all say I was banned for breaking rules when I was gone for 6 days. I don't know what happened or where all my saved passwords/history went but I think somehow the disappearance of all that has something to do with being banned from all these places. Even Facebook said my browser was unrecognized and made me complete a security check!

I run Firefox on all three of my computers. Updates instal automatically without a problem on my desktops but my laptop was showing an error message that it couldn't do the update. I got this over a couple of updates so that it was getting pretty far out of date. So I thought the solution would be to uninstal Firefox completely and then reinstal it. Well, now I can't get it back. When I try to instal version 2.0.0.8, I get a message that says
Error opening file for writing: C:\ProgramFiles\MozillaFirefox\firefox.exe
Now what do I do? I really prefer Firefox to Explorer. Any advice/help would be welcome. Thanks!

Hi I need to back up my bookmarks onto a USB stick, because i have to wipe my desktop computer clean.
This is what I have done so far......
I went into Program files threw Cdrive and i see nothing there,it says bookmarks but when i open it ,NOTHING.

I also opened the firefox window and at the top i opened bookmarks and went itno Organize Bookmarks, once there I selected all and export them to my desktop(it looks like ....(The E for internet explorer) then copy and paste them into my USB .
Opened the USB and it gives me a file that looks like the E for internet explore and its in a document file HTML fromat.

I click on it to open and it sends me to a window to how to use Bookmarks.
it doesn't show any of my fav.links .
What I'm I doing wrong?

Hi DarkAngel25,See if there is something in this KB Article Bookmarks that helps. Also, you may want to consider downloading the extension FEBE.FEBE backs up your extensions, themes, and your bookmarks, preferences, passwords, cookies and just about everything else Firefox offers (it can even backup/restore your entire profile).Another simple utility for creating backups to consider is MozBackup. ~Edit: To add additional info.

This may not be a Windows 7 Home Premium issue but someone may be able to help anyway.

Since replacing my XP laptop with a new Gateway NV52 laptop I've been noticing that, when typing online forum posts (on one particular forum site, using Firefox) I'll suddenly find that I've hit some key or keys (or something?) that takes me back a page and I lose everything I've typed. I've tried to figure out what I could be doing on the keyboard but haven't been able to, though it seems to happen most when I'm typing rapidly, and I know that the heel of my right hand may sometimes hit some key or the mousepad or the right click bar.

Any ideas?

A:Keystroke or key for 'back' in Firefox????

Wow. Could be several things I suppose. Don't know how good a typist you are, but if I try to type real fast I make mistakes and hit the backspace fairly often. If you were typing and brushed the track pad and focus got taken out of the text box, backspace would take you back a page. I've had the problem of typing in a box and when I brush the pad, focus gets taken elsewhere on the page. Just one guess... I guess.

If this is the problem, maybe there is a way to adjust the sensitivity of the pad.

Hello all since updating to FF 5.0 I've noticed I had to press the back button like 3 times before it goes back. This happens on my personal desktop at home and my work laptop both are Win 7 64bit. A:Firefox 5.0 Back button

The first step is always to try running Firefox in Safe Mode, to see if the problem goes away: Help, Restart with Add-ons Disabled. If problem fixed, restart, disable half of your extensions, restart, test, see if you can find an extension that is causing the problem.

So I went and upgraded to Firefox and immediately wanted to change back to the old familiar theme I was actually using the FF theme for FF but unfortunately that's not compatible with Firefox So I had to settle for back Bringing (somewhat) theme old Firefox the another theme add-on called Firefox Theme for Firefox https addons mozilla org en-us fir e-for-firefox Not FF but oh well After installing that add-on I played around with Firefox's own toolbar customizer and you can see the result in Bringing back the old Firefox theme (somewhat) the first attached image I especially wanted to separate the refresh and stop buttons so as you can see I'm happy with what I got Next I downloaded Menu Editor https addons mozilla org Bringing back the old Firefox theme (somewhat) en-us fir n menu-editor to Bringing back the old Firefox theme (somewhat) reverse the positions of the quot Open Link in New Window quot and quot Open Link in New Tab quot buttons in the right-click context menu Over the years I've always moved the cursor to the nd button in that menu to open in a new tab so I got a rude surprise when the link opened in a new window instead Actually most of the time I just click the middle mouse button scroll wheel but I still right-click when I'm stuck with a trackpad Lastly I installed an add-on called Status- -Evar https addons mozilla org en-us fir status- -evar to bring back the status bar at the bottom Basically what you do is enable the add-on bar and the Status- -Evar add-on will add the elements of the old status bar including progress bar download status etc onto that bar Works like a charm So with all that put together the second attached image is what I see as I'm posting this thread I do hope they come out with a Firefox theme add-on though Enjoy

Can i somehow save my extentions i have in Firefox so they wont need installation again from the start?

A:Firefox Addon And Extension Back Up?

Your Firefox extension are kept in your profile folder, located at C:\ Documents and Settings \ "your user name" \ Application Data \ Mozilla \ Firefox \ ProfilesThis folder is not removed when you uninstall Firefox from Add/Remove. This folder retains all of your previous settings, and will re-apply them to your new install, if it's not deleted. That's why, when you install a new version of Firefox, your previous settings, bookmarks, passwords, etc., all remain the same.

C:\Users\Acer\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles could the profiles be stored somewhere else? i'm using firefox now and just want to back it up to an external HDD.

there are a few different profiles there, i thought i found the correct one but it says it hasn't been modified since 2009, or it could be that it was created in 2009, i don't know.

Hey everybody, I've got an odd problem that I've been searching everywhere for. See, while I was laying in bed my cat walked across my laptop (I know, happens rite?). Anyway, she somehow turned my firefox window from transparent to opaque. The problem is, it's only the Firefox window, everything else is fine and still retains the theme I selected. Here, have a look for yourself (If I attached the screenshot correctly, that is). So now, I can't figure out what the hell she did. My cat must've hit the most obscure shortcut combination out there, because going through menus and options in both Firefox and 7 I haven't been able to find it, and even forums and how-to's have no information on the matter. I guess it just takes your cat to break things to force you learn more about how to fix it. Anyway, I just wondering if you've run into this before, and have any info on it.

A:How to get Firefox window back to transparent?

Hallo Frank, if you try going into Tools>Add ons & change your Theme back to the default, restart firefox then reselect your custom theme or persona (by the look of your screenshot & how things have gone black i am picking you are using a persona?)

Hope this helps

Did a MozBackup of Thunderbird files, and it did it well.

Help! I did this- and now I can't open Firefox at all- it opens for a second and then and "error" report comes up!

How do I get Firefox back- and back to 2.0???

thanks for any help with this

A:Lost Firefox after upgrading to 3.0 and trying to downgrade back to 2.0

Do you happen to remember what the message you encountered about not being able to use the RealPlayer tool said? Also is that an addon (extension) or a plugin?

What's the error message that occurs now?
You'll be able to revert to Fx2 but you may lose various settings dependant on what this error message is. The simplest fix is to create a new profile for Firefox. Also see Transferring data to a new profile to keep bookmarks and such.

Hi,

I always delete history in by clicking wrench menu >> settings >> clear history >> from beginning and tick all options..

I just noticed it has still stored all histories of mine for many days that I can see when I click wrench menu >> "history"

I tried deleting again but still it was there.

I managed to delete it finally manually by deleting the userdata folder in the path C:/documents and settings/users/username/local settings/application data/google/chrome/user data

But I wonder if this is something virus in my computer or a bug in browser itself.

This site called turbo-search101.com replaced my regular jpopasia.com/charts. So as anyone would do I'm sure, I opened up the options and changed it back. I clicked the home page button but the same page popped up! I checked my options again and it indeed said turbo-search101.com. So I tried it again. turbo-search101.com popped back up. I checked my antivirus and the "block any home page changes" was on, interestingly enough, the "alert me if an attempt is blocked" as also on. I uninstalled any software i might have downloaded but still came up with the same result.

Help please!

my previous version?

have NEVER had these issues watching online vids using firefox until the past few days. Now I am getting routine aadobe flash crashes on youtube, the only place I watch much video. I have 20 mbps downloads so speed is not the issue.

How can I roll back the version of firefox or flash? or if you have similar issues how did you fix them?

A:latest firefox and/or adobe flash = garbage so how can I go back to

Go to Index page • mozillaZine Forums and search for such things as Flash; there is no reason to revert to an earlier version of Firefox, for that is not where the problem lies.

Hello,

Using Firefox.

It used to be that I could click the "Back Arrow" and pull up the last screen to view again.
Or, I could click many, many times this back arrow, and view quite a ways back.

Now, no more.

At best, I can click once, and that's about it.

What should I set in Options (I guess) to be able to re-access many of the previous views ?
Is there a built in limit ?

Thanks,
bob

A:Viewing Previous Screens With Back-Arrow in Firefox ?

If you right-click on the back arrow, you should see a list of previously visited sites for that tab. If there are fewer than you expect, could it be that you had them open in their own tab?

I was cleaning up my computer and doing things to make it run faster hiding most of the fonts dropping the startup screen time etc DID NOT do anything to the registry as I have learned the hard way that you don't use registry cleaners On restart it went into safe mode after doing a system restore it no longer goes into safe mode and only does the auto fix loop and cannot solve the problem In fact in order to get a command prompt I need to boot from the recovery disc I have backed up all my files EXCEPT my Firefox bookmarks which are many and VERY important I know they are stored in C users username appears Mozilla Firefox profile bookmarks etc BUT my C users folder is gone I know it must be somewhere because I have GB of music in a desktop folder which would have been in my user folder and my c drive space is the same as it was before this happened I'm running windows bit I usually use the regedit to copy files from my PC to externsl drives or flash drives by browsing files via file-import and just copying then navigating to a drive to paste in Its easier than using command prompt and seems to missing bookmarks to folder need help! and C:\users back up Firefox is work well Thanks for any help EricEric

A:C:\users folder is missing and need to back up Firefox bookmarks help!

It is not clear to me as to how you use regedit to copy files from your PC to externsl drives or flash drives. Could you please explain in detail the procedure that you follow.

As for your Firefox Bookmarks it would appear that you still see them in your Browser. If so you can save them by exporting from there to a folder of your choice.

Actually I'm trying to do exactly what is proposed here, and file history is not behaving as expected. I restored a full image I took a few months ago, which worked great. When I tried to restore the intervening file history, though, it only sees the three month old restore point, and gives me no option to restore the more recent files I can see are on the history drive. I could move them by hand but they now have the dates appended to the file names, and it will be a huge task.

Any ideas to get file history to see the more recent files on the history drive?

A:get file history to see more recent files on history drive

When you restored File History lost the cross references for the newer "changes". You can only do it manually, All you have to do is go to the last known or good date in File History's files and use copy & replace. If you have 7Zip you can even set it up in dual panel to navigate easier.:
