Importing address book from OE to Thunderbird--how

Q: Importing address book from OE to Thunderbird--how

OK, I have OE on an XP computer. I have Thunderbird on a W7 computer. I can export my OE address book to a flashdrive. But Thunderbird does not let me specify the path of the OE address book.

Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This question relates to Windows Mail not being on Windows 7. Downloaded Windows Live. My local internet provider walked me though setting up my local account OK. Tried to import my address book per Microsoft instructions. Choices are Windows address book, business card, Microsoft Office Outlook addresses, address book for current user (what you would think is the right one) and comma separated values. Nothing I do gets the desired result, my address book. What do I need to do now?

As the result of a hard drive crash I had to install a new one. The old HD contained Win XP pro as and OS and the new one has Win 7 installed. I used carbonite to restore my data to the new computer with the exception of the Win XP Address Book. Prior to the HD failure I backed it up to an external HD using the Win XP backup utility. The external HD contains a the following file:

Name: Backup.bkf
Type: BKF file

I am interested in locating the file containing the Win XP Address Book on the external HD and importing it into my contact list in Windows Live Mail on the new HD.

Hey it sounds simple enough but here's the delema,
I had to insert a new hardrive into my system and I installed XP on this new HD.

My old HD, with outlook and the rest, is now my e: drive, I
partitioned c: into C: and D:,

I want to get my old messages and also my address book from e:'s outlook to c:'s outlook.

I have found my .wab files for my address book but I cannot find the .pst files for my messages.

As well I couldn't figure out how to import the address book so I cut it from the folder in e: and paste it in the same folder in c: but outlook still doesn't read it??

folder = c or e\Documents and settings\zeke\application data\microsoft\address

is this folder right or am I on crack.

any help would be appreciated.

This issue keeps coming up time and again and it may vary per Outlook program but I am using Outlook 2003 and I believe the Outlook Address book is in the .pst file but in no way can import it into the program. Not using import...I have moved the .pst file from a retiring desk top and have copied that file to the appropriate new folder but for the life of me it will not find the "Contacts". What is the best way to do this?

I just installed Outlook 2007. I have 2 problems. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I can't import my address book from Windows Live, Hotmail or Gmail. I have searched and can find only the opposite (to export). I have exported from Windows Live,Hotmail and Gmail, but they are different and won't work. The other problem is I can't change the stationary. It is grayed out and says no other themes installed. I reinstalled the themes and put in the extras. I have folders named stationary that has files in them. you can click on them and see them. I can't find a way to tell the program where they are. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Clint

Does anyone know of a good way to get my complete OE Address Book into Mozilla Thunderbird? I've tried it in the 1.0 version, and it doesn't seem to move the subfolders. I get the whole main list (I think), but the folders don't survive. I installed the 1.5 beta yesterday, and that was even worse. One folder was populated with the same name about 25 times, and there were lots of blank lines in most folders. I'm running WinXP-SP2. I would really like to convert over to Thunderbird as my default, but not as long as I can't bring my addresses completely along. The AB isn't huge, but the thought of building it from scratch is not appealing. I would appreciate any input.

From either Outlook Express or the MS Works Address book:
Import
then choose type file
choose Exchange Personal Address Book
The new Works address book import completes the action but does not ask for the file location ( I am trying to import a MS Exhange Personal address book into a Works Address Book, which appears to be the address book for Outlook Express a .wab not a .pab) so of course nothing happens and no data is imported. Hiya

First off, have you tried a restore of your system, to see if they can be recovered:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q306084

That's assuming its XP of course.

If not, you may want to look at this:

In particular, the part about Restoring or migrating your backed-up profile.

Addresses in my address book get duplicated in a corrupted form so that in addition to the address I put in 2 forms of duplicates appear. In one form the name has quotes round it - so [email protected] becomes "john"@virgin.com. THe other corruption has the first letter after the @ omitted so it becomes [email protected] This latter corruption results in Failed Delivery notices. I have tried deleting the extra corrupted addresses but they appear again. I don't know when or why

A:Import address book from Thunderbird to OE6

Not straightforward but do-able: http://www.freeemailtutorials.com/mozillaThunderbird/exportAddressBooks.cwd
Or this (seems simpler than the above):

First Export the Address Book from Thunderbird to the Desktop.
Tools > Address Book
If you have created more than one Address Book, select the one you want to Export.
Tools > Export
Save the file as an .ldif file to the Desktop.

Open Outlook Express and Import the Address Book,
File > Import > Other Address Book

Select LDIF - LDAP Data Interchange Format
Click Import

The Address Book should be Imported.

I just purchased a new computer and installed WordPerfect 11 and it is working ok except when it comes to using the address book. While using my old computer with WXP I exported my address book to a file and then transferred that file to my new computer. When I try to import, nothing shows in the import window so I can't navigate to the file I want to import. Likewise, when I try to export as a *CSV*TXT file there is nothing in the export window that will allow me to select a location to export.

I have tried a repair by inserting the WP11 disk and selecting "repair" but I then receive a message that I must have Internet Explorer 4 or higher. I have Interent Explorer 8 with Windows 7 Home Professional so can't figure that one out.

Anyway other than ITunes? I'm still a novice even though 87 and had a laptop for a few years but mainly email. John

A:How to import address book from Thunderbird to Outlook Express

Hi terrawarra,

I had to do this at work a while back. It's a bit of a game but check out this article.

Basically you export the Thunderbird data as a CSV file, import it to OE and map the data to the headers (ie tell OE what the entries in the address book mean).

Though I didn't need it in the end, I started by making a backup of my data first using MozBackup.

I exported my address book from Outook 2003 into the Windows (XP) Address Book. This is great because then I don't have to have Outlook open to view my address book.

However, it isn't linked to my Outlook address book so that whenever I made a change to my addresses in Outlook, it'll reflect in the Windows address book.

I had that set up perfectly in my old computer (Windows 98SE) but can't get it to work in XP.

i apologise if this has been asked before and it probably has. i've just installed thunderbird and i was wondering how i import my contacts from orange webmail ?
thanx

A:importing addresses to thunderbird

Hi pw29010,

I haven't used Thunderbird for a while but I doubt the procedure has changed.

Firstly, you'll have to export your contacts/address book from Orange in a format that is compatible with Thunderbird so look under 'Import' and it will give you the differenf file types Thunderbird will read. Once established, go to Orange and Export (save) the file to your PC, then Import the compatible file to Thunderbird.

Sounds easy but I doubt it will be so simple where Orange is concerned!

Hi swarfega,

Have a look at the following webpage for details on exporting Thunderbird address book files: Export Thunderbird's Address Books and Contacts. Select a format that is compatible, i.e. CSV or LDIF. Save the files in their converted form. I suggest that you give them a slightly different name. Alternatively, backup the original files to removeable media prior to converting them. To import the files into Windows Mail, click on 'File', highlight 'Import' and click on 'Windows Contacts...'. Click either 'CSV (Comma Separated Values)' or 'LDIF (LDAP server)' and then click on 'Import'.

In the past I've maintained my address book using the built-in Address Book utility that came with Windows. Once each year, I would import my Address Book (.WAB) file into Outlook 2003/XP. (I don't use Outlook for email.) Then I would use the Mail Merge feature in Word 2003/XP to make and print address labels on standard Avery label sheets to simplify address of my Christmas cards.

Since I'm now using Windows 7, and the familiar Address Book utility is no longer available, how can I print my address labels? I have both Windows Address Book (.WAB) and Comma-Separated Values (.CSV) files that contain my address book data. So, I guess I need to know two things:
Which program or utility (preferably free) can I use to print my address labels.
How do I import my address data into that program?

If it helps, I am already a user of Gmail and Google Drive. Thanks.

The process seemed simple enough, but importing downloaded mbox file only gave empty subdirectories in the Local folder and no email records and no email content and no account-like set of directories shown.  No error messages.  I cannot imagine having done anything wrong.

I followed advice found in a couple of videos from youtube as well as some other online articles which I did not keep track of.  The youtube video which I did follow was     and also

Thunderbird version 45, but from Portable Apps, and the Import Export Tool extension was downloaded and installed just last night.

I am using winpro2000 and office2000. No network and AOL is my internet provider.

I use to be able to go into word and print an envelope and the address would stay in the drop down. I think one of my kids fooled around with Outlook and now I have to enter addresses in the "new contact" area fields in order to get them to stay. Even then, only the name apprears not the whole address when I select an address from the drop down. I had to import the PAB into outlook to be able to use the previous addresses that use to automatically.

All I want to do is to EASILY print an address on an enveolpe and have it save to the drop down again.

Thanks a bunch,
Vstyner

This works with outlook express but I have never tried it with outlook. May work so give it a try
Export your address book to a comma deliminated file. Open the file in excel and arrange the columns in the same order as they would appear in mozilla. Save again using a comma delimated format. Import the file into mozilla's address book.

A:Importing Address Books in W8 Outlook.com

Are you using Outlook 2013, or the default Outlook program that came with Windows 8?

If you are using the mail app that came with Windows, you can't "import" your contacts, because the app is actually a browser interface. Instead, if you are using a web-based mail program like Hotmail, Gmail, you add that email account to the mail app.

If you are trying to import the information from a .pst file, you will need to upload the contacts to Hotmail or Outlook.com via another Outlook client -- not the app, but the Outlook program that comes bundled with Office.

W10 up and running very well, the only change is a new email client, recommended by an "expert" In fact it's not so different to "Outlook" I'm using "Thunderbird" as my email client. Took me some time to sort out where/how, to set up a contacts list. I got it up and running and a list of contacts on the left side of the screen. All that was required was to click the mail name and it was entered in the "to" space. However that has disappeared. Now I have to open the addresses from "tools" click on each name, the addresses then vanish so I have to start again entering a new address, ad nauseam - I'd really like to get the list on the left side again

Hi,

Anyone that can help me with this would be great. I'm trying to import Yahoo!'a address book to XP's address book. It seems pretty straight forward. I make a csv value file of Yahoo!'s address book from it's own service for this which I do. I make a copy of it to My documents. Then I Import it to XP's address book. Only one thing it stops loading about 1/2 way through the loading and stays there. It will not complete the process. What gives? I've repeated the process about 10 times and always the exact same thing it's stops right in the same place and will not move beyond it? Anyone that can help me with this I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

For IE favourites, goto the file menu in IE / import&export, and follow the wizard.

To export your address book, open outlook express, and goto file / export / address book.

A:HELP re Address book

I don't know about the import export being backed up but wanted to ask you if you knew you could back up all of files onoutlook on a regular basis? That way your calendar, etc. are all backed up in addition to your address book. Some of the earlier versions of Outlook did not come with the back up feature, but you can download software from Microsoft. My outlook prompts me once a week to back up. I save it on one of my networked computers. When I had a computer that crashed once, I was really glad I had it saved!!

I have an address list in .wdb format that I'd like to use in MS Word's mail merge function. Can I convert it to a format that MS Word will recognise?

I don't have MS Access on this PC.

Thanks

A:.wdb Address Book

You didn't say what version of Word but there are a couple of possibilities.

If the .wdb option doesn't show during the merge
File converters for Works aren't installed by default so you might need to install them. Just start up the Word (or Office) install program and choose Add or Remove Features. In Office 2002 (XP), you then need to look in Office Shared Features -> Converters and Filters -> Text Converters. There are a couple of converters for Works. Just choose Run from my computer for both of them.
If the .wdb option shows during the merge but you get an error
Here are some Microsoft articles that might help.
Works: Database Does Not Merge into Works Word Processor or Word Document
Works Suite: Unable to Use a Works .Wdb File as Mail Merge Data for a Word Document
Works 2000: Data Is Not Merged When You Create a Mail Merge Document
Finally, you might try saving the database as a comma delimited (.csv) file since that's compatible with almost everything.

I reformatted my computer. Saved my Outlook. I have my Outlook contacts, buy when I go to Outlook Express, I don't have them. How can I point OE to find my Outlook contacts??

A:OE address book

Which version of OE are you using? You should be able to import the address book by opening OE, opening the address book and importing it from outlook. Except in OE6 its different. You have to check share data with other applications.

Or open outlook, file and there is an import/export option. I think you can export them to OE there.

I reinstalled XP and at first I couldn't even find the address book. I finally got it into Outlook 2000 and set OE for sharing data, and used the export in Outlook and finally it worked.

The older versions of Outlook Express have an import data option I think - I can't remember for sure.

Hope this helps.

I just bought a new laptop with Vista Basic installed. XP Professional is on my desktop.

Talk about a new learning curve!!!

I bought the laptop for our road trips....thought I was copying my address book from my XP OS to Vista but my folders never appeared.

Also my contact names are orgainized by first names only....in XP it's really simple to have the names appear last name first. I've tried everthing in Vista under 'View' then 'Sort' even selecting 'Last Name' but nothing changes.

I never considered myself a newbie but I sure would appreciate some advice.

Thx

A:Vista address book

For the address book (Contacts in Vista) have you tried the import facility in Windows Mail?
For the second - this is a weird one! If you have, as stated, setup the "last name" column, double click each address (I hope you don't have too many!) and just Ok it. After a second or two the surname will appear in the order you have requested. There is probably a better way but that one worked for me.

I have alerted the entire contact list and suggested they not click on the link and delete the message. Many have responded with thanks.

Thus far I have run a Norton scan with only five cookies detected and no viruses. I have also downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-malware and run both a quick scan and a full scan. No issues were found. What should be my next step?

I told you I'd send some new ones... these are very erotic." This email is wreaking havoc and the issue needs to be resolved... anyone have any ideas on where I could start?

Thank you

Ok well let's start here and see what we see//Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Hi

Is there a way to get windows address book to print out selective address labels, merged letters etc.
If not, is there a program that can strip the data from address book and do the same things.
Thanks

Hi, I have Outlook.com on my XP comp, I wanted to transfer it onto another comp.running XP, all the suggested methods do not seem to work (unlike Outlook Exp).  I have now downloaded a fresh Outlook.com onto the second XP but I cannot get the address book to sit in the correct place on the Outlook page of the second PC.  It now sits in Excel on the second PC, does anyone know how I can move the address book from Excel into the Outlook address area on this second comp. I have tried most of the Microsoft suggested methods but it just does not happen. many thanks, Roy

My system recently crashed. We were able to save my data by adding the old hard drive into my new computer.
Everything was able to be retieved, but I can not locate my Outlook address book.
Any ideas on how or where I would look?

Hi, at the suggestion of someone online, I downloaded Eudora (a mail client) just to test an email I'm sending to a bunch of people. Well, ever since I did, my address book, hundreds of email addresses, has been wiped clean. Gone. I can't find the address book in Eudora, Outlook or Outlook Express.

Please someone tell me how I can get my address book back! How did this happen! I left a message at Eudora, too, but they haven't responded yet.

I'm using Windows XP.

Thanks,

Karen

A:Outlook Address Book Gone

Hi kaneshansley.
Do you mean it's empty or just plain gone?
In Outlook, click Tools>E-Mail Accounts.
Under "Directory", select "View or Change Existing Directories or Address Books"
Click "Next". Do you see an existing Address book?
If not, click "Add" then select "Additional Address Books" then Click "Next".
Do you see any Address books Now?
I'm at a machine with Outlook 2003 right at the moment.
If your version is different, please post it.

Hey all, i setup a table and form in access so i can enter all my addresses into it. Well actually wizard set it all up, lol. This isnt just for me to use, its for others to add stuff to as well, so i want it to be as simple as possible for people who have never used Access before. You can enter all the info in through the wizard, but when people open the database they dont know to click on forms then click on addresses to add addresses. Now i have seen some where as soon as you open the database a screen pops up and says enter new name into address book or something to that effect. How can i create one of them??

Does this make any sense, TIA

Hey all, i was wondering if there is a way to do an address book in access. What i want is a way to add all of my names in a database and then be able to print certain address, not all of them. If access isnt a good program do you, what is the easiest and simplist? Thanks in advance.

Drew

A:Access Address book

you can do that with access

create your database with the address, create report>click the New Button>choose label wizard or whatever type of report you want.

If you use the label wizard you can even select the Avery # that corresponds with your labels.

Other than that.. maybe outlook... but then you have to add a bunch of people that you won't email.

I am using XP.

I have made several Groups of addresses to use as distribution lists. If however I decide to remove a single recipient from the list they also get removed automatically from my main address data base. Is there any way round this problem?.

Tia

Are you sure you are deleting them from the distrubution list? Try 'removing' them. I'm not exactly sure how to do this, but I know it is possible.

My home computer is Windows XP with outlook 6. My new laptop is Vista Home Basic. I cannot find how to transfer my contacts from home to laptop. I really have tried.
When I go to windows explorer and search for the microsoft\outlook, nothing comes up, and I have clicked "show hidden files". I really only need the contacts, can someone help? Step by step, please. (Vista is all new to me.)

Hello Squelch & welcome to our Forum.
Do you mean Outlook Express 6 or Office Outlook 2003 or 2007?

If I switch from Windows 10 Mail to Windows Live Mail, will that restore direct access to my address book contacts? Or would Thunderbird do it? I'm getting tired of W10 mail's cumbersome process for addressing emails

A:restoring address book

Didn't get any replies to this so I went ahead and installed Windows Live Mail as my default mail. It works fine and I now have an address book again.

I am trying to move my address book into my Outlook 2000 system. When i try to import the file, it wants to load it as a text-separated file, not a .wab file. Or, if i select to load a personal address book, it will not pull up my desired file which i have titled and placed on the desktop. Any help would be great!

A:Address book problems

Are you trying to upload your address book from a different e-mail software? Which ever the case, try uploading your contacts in .pst format instead of .wab
