I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

"...when you consider micro SD card slots on smartphones are on the way out."

Just because a prominent phone maker decides to experiment by not including the microSD slot, does not mean this tech is on the way out. There is REAL need for this, and if the big S doesn't want to include this in their phones, people will find other phones that do have this capability.
Lets not forget just how bad sales were/are for the S6.

Hi all,

My friend's USB flash memory has data (its drive shows that there is data in it) but when I double click on it to open it and see the contents, it doesn't show any folders and files! I did the following works:

1- I scanned it by my updated kaspersky AV. but no threat found
2- Scanned by windows defender tool. same result!
3- scanned by malwarebytes anti-malware. same.
4- cmd (run as administrator) -> go to its drive (e.g., H:, when H is my flash drive) and typing the attarib -s -h *.* /s /d command. It could not to show the data.

All my attempts faced failure till now.

Can anyone help me please?

Go to cmd (run as administrator) -> go to its drive (e.g. H: where H is my flash drive) and type the attrib -s -h *.* /s /d
Now flash will show the data.
Your attrib spelling was wrong correct them
Try it.

Can't you just go into Synapse and assign the Windows key to the Alt key and vice versa? All the keys are programmable and hopefully this wouldn't affect your other keyboard.

How to repair a corrupt 64gig flash drive

A:Flash drive repair

Hi, This really depends on how it has 'gone wrong'.
If it's a hardware failure then nothing you can do will sort it out.
But if it's a software/format failure then;
Save everything you want off of it with a program such as 'Recuva'.
https://www.piriform.com/recuva/download
Then Format it again by;
Right-click on the Flash drive's icon in 'explorer' or 'Computer',
Choose 'Properties' from the list,
Choose 'Format'
Set the option of FAT 32,
Untick the 'Quick format' option, so that you are using the slower full format option.
Click OK.
Note that all the files that were on it will be gone, so be sure to save any valuable files first, if you can.

I am looking for a new USB flash drive with all of the following features:

Metal case or very hard plastic. Not rubberized.
USB 3.0 with R/W speeds of at least 50MB/s
No cap, swivel cap or removable protective casing.
At least 16GB or more.

I still have SanDisk Cruzer Micro Titanium. I am looking for something similar in size and features, but faster with bigger capacity.

Any ideas? Thanks

A:Recommend a good USB 3.0 Flash Drive

I bought the Mushkin Enhanced Atom 64GB USB Flash Drive. The write speeds are a bit slower than I wanted at 20MB, but read speeds are above 100MB. I can't complain though as the drive performs as advertised. And for what I want it works perfectly. The casing is hard plastic not rubberized. I know you said no cap, I had that rule as well but grew tired of trying to sort through the available options. Anyway I wanted to pass the word on the recorded speed for my purchase. My last purchase was years ago for a 16GB Cruzer Micro like the one you have.

A while ago, after accidentally opening the Store app, Windows forced me to restart to install Windows 8.1, which I was unable to weeks before because of driver issues. I didn't need Windows 8.1 yet, so I didn't download it before then.

However, during the installation, it failed (again) due to either my antivirus or the aforementioned driver issues. Upon logging back in, my computer was unable to find any WiFi networks. Seeing as I live in the middle of a densely populated city, this isn't possible. Plugging in an ethernet cord still works, so no issues with that adapter or my home internet. I checked all the drivers for my WiFi adapter, and my Ethernet adapter, and both are up to date and display as working properly. Restarting several times didn't seem to fix this issue, and using system restore didn't seem to work either. I used the Troubleshooting tool, and that didn't give my any helpful advice or answers, so I got nothing.

What can I do to fix this issue?

For reference, I have a Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter, Driver Version 6.30.95.14, and a Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller, Driver Version 2.1.0.7.

A:Copying to/from flash drives stuck on "5 seconds remaining" for 30 sec before finishing

Marty9231 said:

Hello!

It may seem like a simple problem, but I know nothing of the subject and I've had the problem for ages.

Whenever I copy large files (Movie size, think 700MB+), the copy progresses very fast (~100MB/s) until it reaches about 99% where it gets stuck for about 30 seconds to a minute, and it says "Time remaining: 5 seconds" during all that time.

I have this problem with any flash drive, in any USB port (2 & 3). It also happens when copying to network drives and external harddrives, which leads me to think it's a software/windows issue.

Some vital information:

The flash drive I mainly use is USB 3.0, quite new and easily capable of ~150MB/s writing speeds. It reaches about 120-130 MB/s during the copy until the final point where it still says 130 MB/s but does nothing for 30 seconds.

USB port is also 3.0, and I've also tried every single other port in my computer. None are broken, and none ever show any signs of being slow.

The flash drive is NTFS formatted, but it used to be FAT32. I ran checkdisk to see if there was anything wrong, but there wasn't. It's NTFS since I occasionally need files >4GB.

I tried using TeraCopy to bypass the issue, but this way doesn't reach speeds of over 20MB/s which takes even longer in the end. It does fix the 'hanging at 99% issue'.

I tried converting the drive back to FAT32, which removes the issue of it hanging at 99%, but again the speed doesn't go above 20MB/s which means it takes longer in the end, making it not worth it.

What bothers me is that the files transfer at the maximum speed right until the very end, where it just magically gets stuck for 30 seconds or more, before finishing like nothing happened.

Please advise!!

My USB drive is enabled. The USB flash drive or any other storage device is recognized when connected to my laptop. But when I click on the drive in windows explorer, it says access denied. The same works fine in other laptops. I have admistror previlages. There is no local group policy set up on Removable storage access. I have this flash drive:
http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Turbo-Performance-Drive-P-FD128TBOP-GE/dp/B00FE2N1WS

And I am afraid it is dead. When I plug it in, 50% of the time, the red light constantly flashes at about 8 flashes a second, or flashes 3-4 times quickly before just shutting off and nothing happens.

If it is in constant flashing mode, I can open my windows explorer and see "Removable disk", however it is slightly transparent, and when I try to open it, it says "Please insert a drive", which leads me to believe the computer detects it, but can't read it. The properties window shows 0 bytes. Is there any hope at all of getting my ~65gb of used data off of this thing at all? Do I have to take it apart and do some soldering? Please help.

CPU:AMD FX-8320
Motherboard:ASUS M5A97 R2.0
OS:Windows 8.1 64-bit

I hardly know anything about the BIOS so I am asking you this:
Will I need to update my BIOS and if so how to do that?
Am I going to update it to the latest version(2103) or the version when the processor was first compatible(1006)?

Please help, I do not want to make a mistake when updating so please provide a detailed explanation ! ! !

A:BIOS update

Some might say updating the BIOS is not worth the risk unless you have a reason to chance it. On the other hand I've never had a BIOS update go badly. BIOS updates are not that difficult to do. But there is always a risk of the update failing. In the off chance of failure, the motherboard will be bricked. There are motherboards that come with a second BIOS for failsafe. I don't know if the failsafe can be used under a bricked board, I will assume it can until I hear otherwise.

There are three ways to update that I am aware of. All of which may not be available depending on motherboard model and age of system.

Within the Operating System (I've used this method but for awhile it was advised against)
You will need to download BIOS Update application. The application will download and install the new BIOS.

Within the BIOS
Within the BIOS there is an update facility. You will only need the new BIOS. (My BIOS will only update from a USB stick.)

From DOS utility
Not only will you need to download the new BIOS, you will need to download the flash utility that is designed for the update.

I recommend updating from within the BIOS (assuming you have this option). Download the new BIOS to a USB stick and then boot into the BIOS. Browse around to find the update facility and the rest is self explanatory.

You can't simply burn MP4/AVI to disk and have them play. Only players that have been optimized for them will play them. And speaking from experience, even when burning the correct format, the burns may give issues reading in the player. One player may recognize the disk while another will not.

A:Graphics card update to host windows 7

I don't know if you CAN upgrade your graphics card, but:

You most likely don't NEED to.
It's not really a good idea to upgrade at all. Those parts are old as dirt and you won't find anything cheap that'll fit.

Hi, I have problem with my flash drive. It just won't load, I tried everything, and still nothing.
Here is some pictures that can help.. I think..

A:Problem with Flash Drive

Windows installs multiple drivers for this device. This is the 2nd driver (that's failing to install). The first will be listed under USB in Device Manager. By default, Device Manager only displays a device when its connected.

Plug in/remove your device and look for a device appearing/disappearing under USB. It'll probably be a USB Mass Storage device. (Maybe a USB Composite). When you find it, right click it Properties->Details tab. Use the pull down menu to select Hardware IDs. Copy/paste what you see in your next post

Hi Everyone!

I'm trying to put a Flash Drive into my desk top and nothing comes up, except a little icon on the bottom right of the taskbar telling me to I can Safely Remove Hardware!

I don't use Flash Drives and this is pretty much the first time...is there anything that's suppose to come up on the screen to walk me through this?

I want to put pictures on the Flash Drive and show them on another computer!

I'm able to upload music to my Mp3 player, and also upload pictures with no problem...I just can't get them on this Flash Drive!

It's a SanDisk Cruzer Glide 8 GB!

Can anyone help me?

A:Flash Drive

Have you tried opening "Computer" or "My Computer" (depending on Windows version) and seeing if the flash drive shows up there? If so, double click on it to open it. It should be there if you get the icon in the taskbar.

Are you absolutely sure there is no switch???

I have had a flash drive go bad on me and lock itself in read-only position. I even opened it up and shorted the locking leads on the chip but it would still refuse to be writable.

I'm about to buy a 512 gb flash drive and use it strictly for backing up our two desktop computers.I can't see where I would ever need to boot Win 7 from a flash drive, but who knows? What do you think? That large a flash drive...should I make it bootable or not? Also, I think I should partition it into two drives but maybe just creating two backup folders, one for each machine, would be enough. ???

Will appreciate your input.

A:Flash drive: make it bootable or not?

No, don't make it bootable unless you need to. And no, just... no... don't buy a 512GB flash drive for 'backups'. The performance sucks, it's ultra-expensive... $1000 to be precise.

Or are you getting a $50 ebay one? That's a scam.

Assuming you have other copies available of the data on this drive, try formatting it with this - http://www.techspot.com/downloads/6202-usb-flash-driver-format-tool.html
or this one - http://download.cnet.com/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool/3000-2094_4-10974082.html

I have a generic Flash drive 512GB that is formatted exFat. When writing files to it, the computer crashed and since then, the drive has been in a read only state (there is no write protection switch on the outside of the drive casing).

When running diskpart it says current read only state: yes. But for read only, it says no. I can clear the read only state, and it will even say successful, but the current read only state still says yes.

Disk Management in windows control panel says the drive is healthy, active partition.

I have tried using various formatting tools such as AlcorMP, HP format Tool, and a variety of others and no luck.

Anyone else have any other ideas?

Do you have to update or change the Motherboard to update the processor?

I have a Pentium 4 processor 548, 3.33GHz, 1MB L2 cache, 533MHz front side bus. Can one "Plug and Play" so to speak with an updated processor to the same Motherboard?

A:Motherboard/Processor update

Your CPU socket is PPGA478, P4 is the highest CPU this socket will support.

Even with LGA775 CPU socket, unless you had a motherboard that would support quad core, there would be little reason to upgrade over a complete system replacement.

In answer to your question to "Plug and Play", yes and no. Yes CPU's are basically plug and play, and No the motherboard must support the CPU first.

Hey guys, I've attempted a bios update through this website and I've been left with this sitting on my desktop for two days and the loading bar has not moved an inch.
I tried to update the BIOS because for the last few weeks when my computer is booting the screen would go blank and just stay blank and I would have to keep resetting until it would finally boot. I was hoping a bios update would do the trick otherwise I would not have bothered.

Im worried if I exit out or shut-down my computer I could corrupt my BIOS. Any ideas?..

A:Bios update help

I would exit and maybe try again. Thats the download phase which has nothing to do with the actual update process. The download will complete, before any attempts to update will begin. Updating the BIOS can be very risky, updating would never be handicapped by possible problems of downloading.

How to remove write protection of USB Flash Drive with no visible lock/unlock?

A:USB flash drive write protected

Diether John said:

Depends on how the drive has been write protected. Does the whole drive appear to be encrypted/write protected or has each file been individually encrypted/write protected?

If the drive has been encrypted, TechSpot has regulations against helping anyone circumvent encryption. Reason for this, is we have no way to know for sure you are the true owner of the device. Write protection however is a simple switch in file properties that can be toggled.

One of the ribbon cables may not be securely connected. Them things are a pain to deal with.

If you hadn't previously worked on it, I was going to suggest the power supply may have gone bad. Since you worked on it and that is when the problem started, its been my experience the problem is nearly always workers error.

Hello! I'm new here at Tech Spot. This is a great website.

Where can I get a copy of the newest BIOS update for my motherboard?

Model: Asus P5GD1-VM Motherboard
Version: 0602
Chipset: I915
Date: 09/06/2005-16:48:11
Onboard Sound: Azalia (swa)
Onboard LAN: Exist (wl)
BIOS Size: 512 K
BIOS Type: AMI

I downloaded all BIOS .ROM files in the official website of Asus. But it weren't compatible with the BIOS to be flashed.

Please help me! Thank you very much in advanced!

A:Motherboard BIOS update

The latest BIOS for your board is version 1015. It's not necessary to load each BIOS in order, just load the latest. To load the BIOS you must copy it to a floppy disc and rename it P5GD1-VM.ROM If you didn't rename it, that's why it won't load. On the same Asus download page, you can get the user manual for your board, which goes into detail how to reflash the BIOS. It can render your motherboard un-bootable if you do it wrong, so I would read the manual before attempting it again, and follow instructions carefully.

Hey... So I had my PC lying on it's side, and my phone was plugged in via a back USB port, I moved my phone and there was a flash of light from the area of the USB port it was plugged into, this caused a switch in the fuse box to trip and my PC won't turn back on. I've spent so much cash on this to the point where I'm broke now and can't afford new parts.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Yes that video card will work with your motherboard.

However, it may not be the best value for money compared to the current gen video cards on offer.

For example, the newer Nvidia GTX 660 is the same price as the 560 Ti and offers around 30% more performance. Alternatively, the AMD Radeon HD 7850 costs even less and still offers better performance than the 560 Ti. I would highly recommend you go with one of these (doesn't have to be that exact model of 660 or 7850).

I am trying to figure out what s wrong with an older machine -- distortion on issue? Flash Audio older machine I put together for my dad It has a ghz Athlon XP processor GB RAM Audio distortion on older machine -- Flash issue? and a sound blaster Live -bit PCI sound card Very unimpressive machine by today s standards but he basically only needs it for web surfing and audio He likes to use YouTube as a source to learn new music etc The problem I am having is whenever audio is streamed in the browser which as of right now is Chrome the flash playback is very distorted or garbled I noticed that CPU usage is very high and I ve disabled hardware acceleration which didn t seem to help When audio files are played from the system however be it mp or wav the audio is completely fine so I m not sure what the problem is The computer is definitely somewhat of a relic but it should be able to stream audio video just fine I would think I am going to try a different newer power supply and maybe try to find more RAM for it but right now I can t figure out why the flash audio is messed up nbsp

Hello techspot, Basically I think ineed to update my BIOS in order to run call of duty black ops 2, but I Don't know.

Basically when I try to run the game, my pc freeze's then shuts down and says no signal detected, I've been looking all over the inet to try find a solution and came across a forum where people were having the same problem. (They're all using AMD) Alot of the people there said they contacted there motherboard supplier's and asked for a flash drive update or something? to update their BIOS. After doing this they said the game started to work.
Please help.

There was a problem with my Intel Centrino N 1030 wireless driver, and have not been able to correct the problem. Hi, I just got my USB flash drive yesterday and it works fine with no problems whatsoever. First started using it on a machine with XP with no errors at all but then today on a machine with Windows 7 I get a disk controller error in the even viewer. Please tell me this it not the USB flash drive itself? Thanks

A:USB flash drive errors

No, it is the computer you are running it on, in this case the Win 7. It just means that the disk controller hardware for the Win 7 is not functioning correctly.

Hope this helped

Hi all I Acer update 8935g driver screen GPU blank after recently updated the driver for the Ati card in my laptop during the installation the screen had gone blank and has stayed that way ever since But first heres a back story I started having trouble with the laptop a few months ago when I assume the ati card had overheated and caused the screen to flicker this laptop comes with an Intel card also which you can switch to by pressing the power save button near the keyboard The intel card ran just fine and if I output the video through hdmi the ati card would work fine also Acer 8935g screen blank after GPU driver update which led me to Acer 8935g screen blank after GPU driver update believe that there maybe an issue with the screen Also if I kept pressing the power save button and switching between cards the ati card would eventually begin to work normally on the laptops screen I wanted to update my drivers today as they were a couple of years old I had trouble installing them in the past as there was a conflict between both gpu cards so I became frustrated and left it I used Ati s auto detect tool and it began to install the new drivers when the screen went blank I thought this was normal during a driver update but I left the laptop running and it stayed that way for over an hour So I turned the laptop off using the main power button Probably wasnt a good idea I imagine Now the screen just stays blank even if I try to switch to the intel card Any help on this issue will be much appreciated nbsp

my flash drive name shows up when I click on My Computer, but when I click the name of the Flash Drive, the files are not listed. How do I correct this?

A:Listing of files on flash drives

The flash drive in question may or may not have files on it that windows can see. It could be in a strange format, or it could just have hidden files on it. open my computer, go to tools/folder options/view and tick "show hidden files and folders" see if that allows you to see the files that are on the flash drive. If not, perhaps the flash drive is bad, or maybe is just needs reformatted. keep in mind reformatting will wipe any data that is on the flash drive. to do so, open my computer, right click on the flash drive, and choose format. Hope this helps, take care!

A:Flash drives not being allocated drive letter and cannot access

Have you tried Uninstalling the Mass Storage Device that shows up in Device Manager? sometimes reinstalling it can fix issues like this.

Do they work properly after a fresh restart?
Do they stop working after being in standby/sleep?

Other suggestion would be to reinstall Chipset Drivers and USB Drivers if your motherboard has seperate USB Drivers (Generally only for 3.0 boards)

Hello,

I'm trying to update the drivers on my Radeon x600 256MB graphics card with Windows XP 32 bit.

I downloaded the following file described as the ATI Catalyst Driver 10.2 (XP): download-euro <dot> oldapps <dot> com/ATI/10-2_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu.exe

On running this download, it has installed Catalyst Install Manager in C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM\Bin, but I have no idea what I need to do next!

Running Install Manager and following the steps through seems to do something, though looking at device manager, it doesn't look as though the driver has been updated (it's still version 8.162.0.0)...

A:Can't open flash drive

This is a common problem with some brands and models when they have been dropped 18 inches or more, and there are great histories of defective ones. You acn pay to get the data off a defective drive... but the technicians and companies who do it are extremely expensive.

We see as many as 12 to 15 failed flash drives brought in to our shop every week.

Good day, I saw there was some discussions regarding this topic but I still can't find a solution to my problem.

I'm using Windows XP professional 2003. I was working on MS Word and saving to my usb drive. When I tried to save to it again the drive just disappeared from My Computer. From there on no computer can read it. When you plug it in it just does not show. The information stored on the drive is very very important and I need to retrieve it urgently.
I think it must be the driver, but the drive is so old I can't see what make it is. Looks like Gaigin or something gin.

A:USB flash drive not found

If the drive (USB Drive) is old then there's a good chance it might have just failed. The fact that you are unable to get the drive to work on another machine backs that up as well.

I'd take it to a local PC shop, I know we use things like [email protected] file recovery at work which is paid software to recover corrupt data, but if the drive doesn't power, it might be a job for a Data Recovery Specialist.

SanDisk seems to be the most reliable brand IMO. Keep in mind that flash drives are prone to failure. They may be improving but are far from perfect. Check the new models here http://www.sandisk.com/products/usb-flash-drives or just do a google search for some good deals. Obviously, since you are in the UK you will have to shop around with some of the stores that are accessible to you. I would recommend newegg.com but they are in the US

I've had a Patriot - Dash flash drive for over a year now and all of a sudden it's not working. I plug it into the computer and it can't even detect it. I then tried my PS3 with no luck followed by an unsuccessful try with my DVD player's USB port. The blue LED light doesn't flash and no system will detect it. Just a few days ago I was enjoying movies on the thing, and apparently something happened.

My question is, can this problem be fixed? Does my Dash have no hope?

Thank you and apologies if this question has already been answered before.

A:Flash drive undetected in any USB port

Not much hope there... go to the Patriot site and try their tools to recover it... but you may have damaged the drive if you have been carrying it around in your pocket. What you report makes it sound a bit hopeless.
Try patriotmemory.com, and search for Patriot Flash Support, as well as Patriot Memory downloads...
Sometimes their tools will help you recover the drive, but not what was on it.

Hi there guys First off apologies for posting a topic which write protection drive Flash going through the archives seems to appear every minutes but I can t seem to find a solution for this method which has been annoying me pretty much constantly for about months now I have a Kingston DataTraveler Gb Flash Drive operating Windows On this drive there is no physical write protection yet every piece of software I try to use to interact with the Flash drive write protection device tells me that the drive is write protected I ve tried the regedit method CHKDSK booting in safe mode some program called repair v which even refused to pick up my drive and trying on numerous different systems After I ve connected the drive to the system and Flash drive write protection try to format the drive through Windows the first attempt at a format throws up the error message quot Windows was unable to complete the format quot whereas subsequent attempts then say that quot The disk is write protected quot From what I can recall this problem first started when data was being transferred to it and the stick became dislodged Ever since I ve been unable to delete the partially transferred files from the stick nor copy any new ones across I can read and open the files however so it appears that data integrity isn t the issue here Has anyone got absolutely any ideas on how to solve this before I end up throwing this thing under a train nbsp

A:Flash drive write protection

"this problem first started when data was being transferred to it, and the stick became dislodged"...

This mistake probably damaged the RAM chip inside the flash drive. Flash drives are fine for temporary storage but if the files are that important, you should back them up to CD, DVD or Blu-Ray discs and put the discs away in a safe place

Hey everybody, I just purchased a Toshiba sdv398kc2 VCR/DVD combo player and hooked it up to my HD television through a simple composite connection (my television has no S-Video in). However, my tv has composite inputs and this dvd/vcr player has a composite out connection as well. As I understand it, this is not an HD DVD player and obviously not an HD VCR as those don't exist lol. So I was wondering if picking up a composite cable would be worth it? Do you think it will actually change the picture at all? I'd also need to switch my Xbox from composite to HDMI since there's only 1 composite input on my tv. Do you think it'd be worth buying $60 or so worth of cables?

Thanks

A:Component connection on VCR/DVD combination player

From my experience w/ setting my first DVD player, component cables (red, blue, green connections) produce better picture quality than composite (yellow connection). Haven't tried S-video, so can't comment on that. Looking over the manual for your player, DVD can output to either component or composite. The VCR can only output to composite.

I suppose you can have VCR on composite, DVD on component and XBOX on HDMI. Not sure how much cable you plan on buying, but $60 seems a lot. Take a look at Monoprice. I've bought DVI/HDMI and HDMI cables and HDMI switch from them in the past. Happy w/ my purchases.

Perhaps this should be posted in A&V not sure.
I have an empty drawer on my PC I thought I had 2 DVD/CD players. Like I had on my E-Machine,until I got it home Can I install a Blue Ray player in the empty drawer? Do
they even make Blue Ray players for PCs? Also would I have to buy some kind of HD monitor in order to get the full effects of the Blue Ray?
Enough questions for now. I might have more. Depending on the answers I get from this one Ray

A:Blu-ray player

There should be no problem installing a Blu-Ray drive in your PC, they are available in wide range of prices. Minimum resolution for HD is 1280x720; 1920x1080 will give you the benefit of Full HD although on smaller monitors 720p is sufficient. You'll also need Blu-Ray player software ... not sure what software is being shipped with the drives at this point. For what it's worth I've had good luck with LG drives.

Noticed on the forum some advice to format ALL Flash Drives with FAT32...

I just bought a new 32GB Flash...and noticed on other web forums
stating that you can also use the newer 'exFat' mode...

My questions are: Which format really IS better for this size in storing pictures/audio files
up to the 29.8GB limit it says on the flash...

..and when I use either one: what ALLOCATION UNIT SIZE choice is the best for each mode?

Thanks!

A:Formatting 32GB USB flash with exFat

hmm; normally (especially with FAT) we just specify the filesystem type without any options (like allocation size, sector size ...). If this were a NTFS filesystem, those options would be very useful to set larger sizes for large files.

Could you tell us what flash drive you have? And how it got to be raw in the first place?

And are you sure repartitioning it doesn't work? If so then my guess is that it's probably corrupt. If you received it like this straight from the store then I would turn it back in for a refund and get a new one. It use to be used for ReadyBoost but I disabled that and I can't figure where all the space went

A:Missing space on USB flash drive

I'm not sure exactly what "Fix and scan for bad sectors" would do to a USB Flash drive since it's my understanding that it's a tool for mechanical hard disks only. If you haven't already I'd backup your data off of the USB flash drive and attempt a format of the memory.

A:Best way to update graphics on five-year-old IBM desktop

We heed to know the components you have before we can recommend upgrades. What is the IBM model number - or better a link to the IBM spec list for it - and what new components did you put in?

Also, what is your budget and how do you use the PC?

For a starter on learning about video card upgrades, I recommend this site:

Pay particular attention to the criteria page that addresses system constraints in the upgrade process - and helps you define your wants and needs in a way that is useful:

My 8GB Transcend flash drive became corrupted when I tried opening it on a Windows 7 laptop. It was previously used on a Windows XP laptop.

A new driver was found for the device when it was inserted in the Windows 7 laptop. After this all the file names turned into dingbat or strange symbols and could'nt be opened. The changed names remained when I put the drive back in the other laptop.

I checked the Windows XP laptop and flash drive for viruses and registry errors. I found and corrected 86 errors, but the flash drive is no longer recognised on the Windows XP laptop.

How can I recover my files on the flash drive?

A:How can I recover flash drive data, after corruption in Windows 7

Download Recuva and do a deep scan. In the meantime do not place any files on the flash drive, as it will overwrite previous information contained within it.

It should find some data for you.

I have an ION IO2 LP2 Flash Record Player, which enables customers to play records at 33 and 45 rpm via a hi-fi or a computer and transfer the records to a USB stick among other options.

I wish to play records via my computer, but I have a dilemma:

Although my records spin fine on the turntable, when I connect the USB lead to the back of my computer (I currently have Windows Vista if relevant), there is no sound.

What is preventing the sound?, and how do I achieve sound?

I'd thought that sound would be instant, once the lead was connected, but I am very keen to find a solution so I can make the most of my record deck and recording options.

Also, is Audacity easy to set up?
(there are 2 options - the eZ Player, which is good but has least Scratch Filter options, and Audacity)

I look forward to your feedback.

A:Ion LP2 flash record player - no sound

Seeking help

Can anyone assist me?

Thinking further, as I'm not a technical expert, is the cause of No Sound due to a setting in my Computer?

I imagine it's not a fault in the record player, but either way, I can't get any sound out of the record player.

If whatever's blocking the sound is in the computer, which settings do I need to look for to achieve sound?, and/or

Is it because I don't yet have Audacity set up that I'm getting no sound?

I'm very keen to use my record player.

Although record players will vary and I'm not sure if any of you have an ION record player, perhaps there are other record players where Sound has to be activated a specific way where some of you have had the same muted sound on your record players of a different brand or different model or ION.

Please help asap.

I hope this hasn t been asked already I searched for similar questions but there are a vast number of topics already posted that I don t think I even scratched the surface This is the second time I ve recieved a notification update? Recommend BIOS from Dell Support Center with the recommendation to update my BIOS I didn t do it the first time because I had no idea what I was doing and Recommend BIOS update? knew that messing with your BIOS could cause some serious problems This time I figure I will ask the experts first This is the message I am getting quot BIOS UPDATE AVAILABLE There is a critical new BIOS update available This critical BIOS update will fix problems or add features to the computer Recommend BIOS update? s BIOS It is strongly recommended to update to this latest BIOS quot Short sweet and to the point My question is whether or not it seems like a good idea to go ahead and do the update Recommend BIOS update? In regards to BIOS updates I ve been told quot if it ain t broke don t fix it quot but if the update will speed things up or have some benefit I m interested Also if it does seem like a good thing to do how do I go about it so I don t end up with a paper weight Thanks for the help nbsp

A:Recommend BIOS update?

I would agree with your final comment, "if it ain't broke don't fix it". But, on the other hand if Dell are pushing this recommendation then it may have some benefits, just make certain it is coming from Dell and not some bogus site. Go to the official Dell support site and look up your PC's drivers, it will show you in there what the latest version the Bios is, just check it against what you have. Go into Bios at boot and it will be written at the top of the screen.
