Win Live mail 0x80041161 error on start - not enough memory.

Q: Win Live mail 0x80041161 error on start - not enough memory.

Hello,

I updated my computer last night using MS update. 250MB of updates and now I'm receiving the error message that there is not enough memory for win live mail to start (0x80041161).

I have around 2GB of free RAM, and the is plenty of HD space.....

Does anyone know how to fix this problem rather than re-installing the software? I have lots of mail that I would rather not be without, and I'm concerned that if I uninstalll Live mail, I'll end up without my mails.

(anyone know what update causes this?) I could just remit that update if I knew which one.

Using Win7 Home Pro 64. All my updates have been from Win Update in the past.

I have googled this, and there is a post on this forum about the same error, but no-one as of yet seems to know what's causing it, or how to fix it without re-installing.

Many Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Win Live mail 0x80041161 error on start - not enough memory.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Win Live mail 0x80041161 error on start - not enough memory.

OK,

I managed to get round the problem by reverting my computer back to the sate pre-windows upate, but that still doesn't tell me what went wrong.

Also posted this question on the M$ Live Mail forums, but have not had a response.

I see M$ is up to its old tricks of releasing half finished software again, and letting its user base do the testing.

Turned automatic updates off as I need my mail client more than the protection offered by the security updates that caused the problem in the first place.

I'm going to try SP1 instead. If that works, I'll stick to SP releases rather than ad-hoc patch downloads, in the hope that M$ test at least the basics before sending a patch bundle out.

Thanks.

-EDIT-

SP1 worked.

I recently Installed Windows Live mail & messenger onto my Vista PC. When I went to open it, I got the following error code 0x80041161. Windows Live mail could not be started because msmail.dd could not be initialized. I have read everything about this error code and topic, but nothing has helped. I have uninstalled/reinstalled WLM completely. I am dual booting Vista and XP, not sure if that is a factor. Any ideas or links to solve my issue? Thanks.

Hi, yesterday I upgraded my HDD to a SSD and clean installed windows 7 home premium onto the SSD. I then updated windows and installed windows live mail 2011, but when I try to run the program it comes up with "Windows Live Mail could not be started. It may not be installed correctly. Make sure that your disk is not full or that you are not out of memory. (0x80041161)".

I have adequate space and 16GB of RAM, I have tried running wlarp.exe, unistalling and reinstalling and deleting everything windows live mail related (including the registry data) before reinstalling. I have also tried installing and copy and pasting the program files from my old pc with no success.

Any ideas guys?

In the folder C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Installer there is a repair utility. Its name is wlarp.exe. You might like to use it to fix the error that you have cited.

Good luck.

Hi, I just set up Windows Live Mail and am receiving this error when I attmept to send mail via GMail's IMAP service. All settings are correct according to GMail's instructions for IMAP use with Windows Mail. Here is a copy of Windows Live Mail's error message with the recipient changed to hide the personal ID of the original sender/designated recipient:

Go to the website of your ISP, they will show you how to set um WLM. Use their setting for sending. You can use the name of your Gmail account to show as the "send to" for replies.

How to resolve this problem ?

I searched forums and found following, which is to modify registry.

"- Double click on the clock in the taskbar and make sure the system clock is set correctly.
- Disable Zone Alarm
- Register softpub.dll using the regsvr32.exe tool.Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regsvr32 softpub.dll and then click OK.
- Do the same for the following regsvr32 wintrust.dll, regsvr32 initpki.dll, regsvr32 MSXML3.dll.
- Restart Windows Live Messenger."

Is this correct solution ? I am scared because it involves registry. In the comment section, I found that this solution worked for somebody.

Please provide me with a solution.

Thanks

The registry changes make sense, if they are renamed or replaced and they're wrong, you can always change them back.

A:Windows Live Mail In Start Menu

Hello Joronamo,

In Windows Live Mail, check in Tools on the menu bar (Alt+M) and Options to make sure that you click on both of the Make Default buttons in the General tab. This will replace you default Windows Mail Start Menu shortcuts with Windows Live Mail.

If you alread did this, then you can create a new shortcut from the C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe folder and move it to the Start Menu to use instead.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi awjm.

If you go to WML's "View" tab and click on it, then select "show or hide", you will be presented with the option to "create new view".

Experiment with those options and I am sure you will get WML to appear the way you want it to.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Hey Joronamo,

Yeah you can change the defaults quite easily

Open ControlPanel and click ClassicView on the left, then Open Default Programs and click Set Default Programs...From there you can change the default programs listed on the start-menu

Hi I am hoping someone could point me in the right direction towards solving this problem This is my first post so please don't slap me too hard if I have made any mistakes or stamped on any etiquette or anything I did search for wlcomm but only found two results in this section and neither seemed to have any relevance to my problem Somehow I picked up what I think was the quot google redirect won't Live because Windows of mail wlcomm.exe start virus quot Browser redirections and pop-ups galore After many scans swear words windows updates and re-starts that seems to be cured However whenever I try to start Windows Live Mail it opens and then I get a pop-up stating that Windows Live Communications Platform isn't working - click OK to look for a solution The solution is useless - it suggests installing Windows updates - which I have done Then Live Mail says it needs to shut down Occasionally it will claim that quot contacts failed to load quot but this is not consistent I have tried Windows Live mail won't start because of wlcomm.exe Malwarebytes full scan Found and fixed some things but not this Used the built-in Windows tool to fix the Windows Live package - done this several times - each times it claims to have fixed it but Windows Live mail won't start because of wlcomm.exe it hasn't done Currently running the OneCare Safety scanner from Microsoft - but not hopeful Currently re-running Malwarebytes just in case Re-downloading Windows Live Mail - same problem AML free registry cleaner - fixed many problems but not this General clean-up of temp files re-booted etc Several Microsoft Security Essentials scans Several people online have this problem but theirs are all relating to and fixed by messing about with Windows Messenger which I don't use and don't have installed I have tried to find a solution on the Microsoft site - ha I would be eternally grateful for even a tiny push in the right direction Thanks for reading Have just found out http windowslivehelp com thread aspx threadid - - - ee - dfb e that Live Mail updated to a new version on the st of this month I assume this would have been in the Windows updates I downloaded overnight and woke up to yesterday AM as this is when the problem began So maybe it's an update I need to uninstall Or perhaps just locate and install a previous version

Greetings,

I've recently upgraded to W7 and now use Windows Live Mail 2011 as the email client. I want the email program to start when W7 boots and there is an icon for this in the startup folder. The first half dozen boots were fine but now there's a message on start up saying that the email program couldn't start, maybe due to memory?

Double clicking the icon in the start up folder launches the email program ok.
The only other item in the folder is Secunia PSI and that runs fine from start up.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks for reading,

Hello Darkstrike mate sorry you had to wait for so long.
Now I really dislike installing network stuff because it is so ruddy convoluted but if you have the email set up configuration details ie the POP and IMAP settings and say a Live account - I use Hotmail then I would uninstall the WLM and just go ahead and reinstall the 2012.

Hi, i cannot seem to figure out what is going on. I just did a fresh reinstall of windows xp last night. I am caught up on all updates. I downloaded the windows live installer, selected messenger and mail. Installed both, and live mail will not start, it pops a box up that says it cannot start, either somthing wrong with the install or im out of memory, im barely even using 27% of my ram so i doubt thats it. So i went ahead and uninstalled it. tried to reinstall, same error. I even used a few programs that uninstall for you and remove all traces of it. Still, the same error. Anybody have a clue?

Try to End Process the extra wlmail.exe file in the Task Manager Processes to see if it will stop the error for you next time.

Over the past year I have been having spells when My ability to send or receive email would result in an error message 0x800CCC90 stating my password is incorrect. I know it is correct because I use it to access my web mail when Live Mail quits. These spells of broken email willl generally correct themselves on their on; however this most receent episode has lasted about two weeks and it's geting a little annoying now. My attempts to consult ATT by chat for assistance always ends in their throwing up their hands in defeat and a closing statement that the problem is my email client and not ATT and ATt support does not include Windows live mail. My mose recent chat sesssion ended with the silent treatment from the chator leaving the chatee hanging.

I know the problem is a server problem because my attempt to change my email password resulted in a statement: "There are currently no available options for you to obtain a temporary password for your account. For help retrieving or resetting your password, please contact us."

Try using Micorsoft's new "Outlook.com" as a solution. When you upgrade to Outlook.com, you can keep your @Hotmail address or you can get an @Outlook.com address to use along with your @Hotmail address. Once you decide which option is right for you, it only takes a few minutes to set up your new address.

Can someone help me get rid of an annoying pop-up window in my new Windows 7 email?

Even tho' I am auto connected to HS broadband and have no problem with my browser, when I access my Live Mail I always get a pop-up window headed "Dial-up Connection" which appears to be trying to dial. If I ignore this pop-up I get a second pop-up 20 seconds later headed "Error connecting to broadband" (even tho' I am already connected)> it then says Error 651. Behind these pop-ups my new emails are happily loading!

From my searches it appears that error 651 is a common problem.

This old senior would be very grateful for any advice.

Hi since microsoft has no real answer about this issue I'll share the best way to bypass this error Many people will tell you to check in your internet option and blablabla but this is a fix for quot Error ID x quot and not for the quot Error ID x quot fix] to Live 0x80048820 ID: [How Mail Error Most of the support team don't take care of the two last number this is why there is no solution Now Follow the next step there will be the Bypass [How to fix] Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820 --------- Open Live Mail delete the existing account add new account and check the quot manually configure quot option set the connection settings to [How to fix] Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820 Incoming server name pop live com Incoming server port Outgoing server name smtp live com Outgoing server port Requires SSL Yes Requires outgoing authentication Yes --------- Now your mail should sync without any error If I'm not wrong by now the POP service is enable by default and can't be Disable on Hotmail option but you can allow the program to control your mailbox just like the previous automatic setup was doing Have an nice day

I wonder if the problem has to do with setting the "Connect with https" option on the web
https://account.live.com/ManageSSL:
"Using HTTPS will help keep your account secure from hackers-especially if you commonly use public computers or unsecure wireless connections.

Important note: Turning on HTTPS will work for Hotmail over the web, but it will cause errors if you try to access Hotmail through programs like: The Windows Live application for Windows Mobile and Nokia

Windows Live Mail - Error

Each time WLM finishes searching for new messages it gives the following error window:

The error always shows up on the last email account installed. I proved this by uninstalling two accounts & reinstalling them in reverse order.

If all news groups are prevented for searching for new messages the error does not occur. Of course this means that the News Groups are not updated.

go into Programs and Features and double click Windows live Essentials like you are uninstalling it, but instead it will ask you if you want to uninstall or repair. Do the repair and see if WLM gets fixed.

If not back up WLM with the tutorial on here and uninstall it and reinstall it and see if that works and fixes it

Good job of providing the error message.

When did you download Windows Live Mail?

Which version of WLM are you using?

When did WLM last work correctly.

The problem may be with W L M.
Please see the screen shot I have attached.

Try to be patient and wait a couple of hours. The W L M server may be overloaded with requests, or the server may be on a break, for maintenance.

I am NOT suggesting that you shouldn't be concerned. I am only suggesting patience of 2 to 4 hours.

The message above states that it MAY be a server problem, which you can do nothing about, only your ISP can.

Servers have been know to have hiccups just like any desktop or laptop.

If the email access is there most of the time, then it is a server error or your connection to that server is not being made at THAT time. Waite a while and try again.

After two days and making many new accounts etc etc, the mail started to flow again and was ok all day sending and receiving as it should, then the day after it suddenly stopped again, later that night I started up the PC and everything was working and mail came into the inbox and I could send mail out, so I am wondering if it is a glitch with the ISP who are keeping quiet, whatever its been ok since, so I am putting solved on the thread. I recently got a new computer with windows seven I tried windows live mail and it opened with no problems I then used windows easy transfer to move my files mail etc from my old Live Windows Error Mail computer which was using XP but I was already using windows live mail on that computer The transfer seemed to go fine however Windows Live Mail Error when I tried to open windows live mail I was greeted with the following message quot Windows live mail could not be started The application was unable to open the windows live mail message store Your windows live mailbox data is currently being used by another program such as a virus scanner Close the program or wait for it to complete its operation then open windows live mail again Windows Live Mail Error x c quot The only option on this error is to press OK and then there is no further information I first decided to remove mcafee and norton trials that where on my computer but this had no effect I then reinstalled windows live mail onto the new computer which had no effect I have used task manager to look for and stop any processes that look a bit suspect however this didnt work although I may be missing something I have tried running windows live mail as administrator but again no effect I am convinced this may be cause by the 'easy transfer' however I am not sure how If somebody could show me a way of removing the files that were transfered I might give this a go Thanks in advance Danny

Hello,
I hope this is the right place to ask for some help.
When I start WLM on my 8.1 I receive a lot (for each OK or enter) of error popups

"title : Outlook Express FolderSync Windows Class : Wlmail. exe Entry point ...
Error : The procedure entry point ...crtCreateSymbolclinkW could not be located in dyanamic link library C:\Program files (x86)\supta\msvcp110.dll

I have created a gmail account and I requested to sync the account with WLM and now I receive these errors popups in WLM.
Most of my email goes now to the Gmail and not to the WLM inbox.

Thanks in advance

I am trying to open Windows Live Mail and getting the following error message:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Mail\MAILRT2.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

I haven't been too successful finding a definitive answer on the topic as of yet. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to reinstall the program if I don't have to so just want to see if anyone has any answers. Thank you!

I have Windows live mail. My hotmail account was hacked by someone about a month back. Ever since then, I am not able to receive messages from my hotmail account in Windows Live Mail. At first, when I tried to open my hotmail account, everything was in Hebrew language. I searched the forum and found a way to change the language to English. However, I continue to get this message till now:
Server: 'pop3.live.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10053
I tried to repair Windows Mail. Even after that, the error message continued. I reinstalled Windows Live Mail.
Even after that I continue to get the same error message.
Please help. It is a frestrating experience.

also my setting for smtp was 25 and i changed to 587 and restart windows mail but no use.
i checked authentication too.

I can not receive emails and go to web sites; however, I cannot send emails. They all go to Outbox. This is a new problem which has never previously occurred in over one year of use.

Does anyone have a suggested fix?

I get a security error (see attached) every time I open WLM (mail) Didn't use to. I have done a clean install of the OS (W7)

A:Security Error in Windows Live Mail

As an experiment, to find out what part of WLM is causing it, I'd set the option to not "Automatically log on to Messenger" and to neither "Send and Receive at startup" nor to "Check for new messages..." Also, uncheck the option to "automatically download messages when viewing in the preview pane". Finally, open the Properties window and uncheck the option to "include this account..." for each mail account. Now when you open the program there will be no Internet access (except for the normal LiveID sign-in) so there shouldn't be a popup. The next thing to do is sync the mail for one account at a time until you find the one that causes the popup. It's probably one of the accounts that is not using "clear text athentication".

A:Windows Live Mail Server Error

While I do use WLM, I use it to access POP3 and IMAP accounts as we did with Windows Mail in Vista and Outlook Express in XP/Win98. In WLM Microsoft has added Hotmail access via the HTTP protocol accounts and delta sync. Upon Googling the specific error number in your post, I found a discussion of your particular server error and a (complicated) way to tackle it using a command prompt (>): Windows Live Mail Server Error: 0x80048849 and/or 0x80048820

What it basically says to do is check the MTU of your network connection to the mail server by pinging it with different sizes of the MTU until you find the one with no packet loss, starting with 1500:
>ping 65.55.33.106 -f -l 1500

if 1500 fails, but 1472 works then reset it to 1472:
>netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "NIC name" mtu=1472 store=persistent

To find the NIC name or verify the change, use this:
>netsh int ip show int

I've substituted the command to change the MTU to one used in this post because it worked based on the above verification command to "show" the interface: Tinypic will not load on one computer whereas the one shown in the Microsoft post did not pass the above verification test on my Windows 7 system.

Here is a link I found to an automated MTU test: http://qsextreme.com/mtutest/. That discussion says that you can add 28 bytes to the maximum size obtained from the ping test, so if the sucessful ping test occurrs with a maximum packet size of 1472, the MTU can be set to 1472+28=1500. (FWIW, 1472 was the recommended value I received from the automated test based on a discovered maximum ping value of 1444. 1472=1444+28)

Hi,

I normally scan my document directly to the WLM to send it. It was working fine previously but today it gave me the following error:

An unknown error has occurred.
Server: 'mail.optusnet.com.au'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80070057
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No

I've tried going offline, delete the file in the outbox then relaunch WLM and go online again but it didnt work. Whenever the scanner finished scanning, attaches the image of the scanned document on the email and it activates the log on screen for Windows Live Messeger as well.

Wonder if anyone has any solution to it. Thanks.

This is hard to answer since the problem description leaves no answer other than something changed with your PC between "previously" and "today". You need to expiriment with other ways to send the image using WLM to see what works and what doesn't work. For example, signed-in or not, as attachment, insert inline, send a page by email using your browser. You can also repair Windows Live Essentials, or reset your default programs.

Try this. Right click WLM in All Programs and follow steps 1 through 4 in the image. Now test WLM. If it's resolved, click next in step 4 and save the settings. If not try again using different setting in step 5. Let use know how things go.

Why doesMicrosoft Windows Live Mail keep throwing up the error message shown below? This happens at sporadic intervals whenever I am logged in to it, and when there is absolutely nothing wrong. I just click the message and it disappears only to return 30 seconds to a minute later? Whilst the message is showing I am not able to use my email program, so it is very annoying.

If i shut my PC down completely & then re-boot it,it usually begins to work again. Has anybody got an idea regarding what might be happening ?. I've been using the Windows live mail for my yahoo account for nearly a year and this is the first time it's happened.

If anyone can help I'd much appreciate it as logging into Yahoo all the time is a pain.

Yes! - this seems to be a real popular problem round the forums.

Intel / Win7x64, resources are OK.

Following the common spine of these threads WLM was uninstalled, Reg entries removed by hand, the store folder copied away to a safe place, no beta was ever installed, several reboots, no Norton, no Mcafee, etc, deleted the two LM folders in Program Data & program Files, ran zapmessenger.exe,

Tried to install WLE 2009 (as this may install core files WLE 2011 requires but cannot find if WLE / WLM has been removed) with no success. Why? wlsetup-custom.exe finds remnants of WLE / WLM 2011 still hiding somewhere on the disk.

Like so many others nothing allows a re-installation of WLM.

Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Attempting to install MAIL.MSI so as to just install the mail element fails because there seems to be a newer version of WLM present.

Where is this information stored? Every delete and uninstall trick has been played; I cannot find any references to WLM on the HDD.

My problem does not seem to be answered before. I just set up my new laptop and Windows Live. I entered the information right from Outlook express and Wnndows live mail does not work. My incomming is pop.charter.net and my poutgoing is smtp.charter.net. I get 0x800CCC0E error. Charter is no help. I have Trend antivirus installed but the mail check is turned off. Any suggestions? Thanks, Charles

Here is a link to a few error codes for Windows Mail if you look down the list you will find your code and it states cannot connect to server. Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail error codes

Which is either a server entry wrong on your end, username/password incorrectly entered or your internet connection is having an issue at that time. Double check your internet connectivity and all your settings in your email program.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum so please be gentle with me! I am reasonably computer literate (started when Win 3.1 was the current OS) but new to Win 10 which I have just acquired pre installed on a new PC.
I use WLM and got it running well on two separate accounts on my PC. I then looked at Outlook to see if it was any better. On returning to WLM I got an error message as shown below. This now appears every time I open WLM on that account, on the other account there is no problem. I have tried everything I can, with help from a user guide, to correct what I suspect is a mistake on my part but cannot fix the error. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

See if this will help.

Go to your Programs and Features > scroll down to Windows Essentials (2011, or 2012 ) > right click at it > click Uninstall/Change > click Repair.
See if Repair will fix the problem.
