Q: IE 9 question

Hi, My PC came with IE 8, and I noticed there is an IE 9 now should I upgrade to that, and is there much difference, I have no clue when it comes to tech things, lol. Thanks Sandie

Preferred Solution: IE 9 question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: IE 9 question

Upgrate it. Mainly for security reasons. I don't use IE,but if you plan to use it,then upgrate it.

I haven t been on windows or SE alot so I was wondeing If you put a Cd-writer burner in a computer with etc-Question tab a there record burning Solved: 98SE-question 98 is Windows CDs, about and/or windows or se which I just did why when you go to my computer and right click on the E dirve is there not a recording tab and other tabs like in windows xp I know the answer will probably be------because your not using XP----------But I was wondering The one I put Solved: Windows 98 and/or 98SE-question about burning CDs, is there a record tab etc-Question in had NERO with it and I like NERO anyway however I would like to know for future purposes Why when you go to mycomputer and right click on the E drive the burner don t you have the recording tab and the rest like XP I like doing it that way in XP where you can move all files or copy files and then go to the burner and say write these files to cd Does windows or SE have this and I am just missing it or is a burning program like NERO or another the only way to use the burning in or SE Thanks for the help nbsp

A:Solved: Windows 98 and/or 98SE-question about burning CDs, is there a record tab etc-Question

lol, you answered your own question, windows 95,98,98se,and ME don't support cd burning, except with 3rd party software. When you purchase any of the NT systems (ie: xp, NT 4, Server 2003, 2000 PRO etc...) all have the NT kernel which if you look during your install say " Windows (whatever version) is built on NT technology" and "You now have built in CD burning" soon and perhaps with the upcoming service pack 2, it will start coming with DVD burning capability.

I believe the only windows kernel out that currently supports cd burning is the NT one

A:Big Video card compatiblity question + power question

I am also using Dell Dimension 3000, and I upgraded all Video Card, RAM and PSU already, so I think I can help you a little bit here.

First, which games do you want to play? Because if you want to play newest games, then I'm sorry, you will have to buy a whole new computer. X1550 and 2gb of DDR RAM won't help you anymore.

Second, as far as I know, X1550 is the best for PCI now, but X1300 is really slightly behind. Many people believe they are the same. You can easily buy X1300 from newegg. You bought mine with $20.00 cheaper from eBay, but I guess money is not really your problem anyway.

Third, I have used X1300 and FX5500 and didn't see any problem with Dell Monitor at all. The only thing you need to be careful if you decide to buy X1300 is that there are two kind of X1300. Don't buy the Small Factor version because it is made for special kind of computer, and it won't fit into your case. The one you should buy look like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129062

Fourth, even though many people suggest that we should only use Dell PSU because the other PSU won't fit into the case, I am actually using this one of Antec: http://reviews.pricegrabber.com/power-supplies/m/601582/
It fits perfectly.
And yes, PSU upgrade is a good idea. I believe my system is working very well, so you should have at least 350W PSU. DON'T buy cheap PSU.

Fifth, you may knew already since you've used cruical website to figure out. However, just keep in mind you need to buy DDR RAM, not DDR2. This is another bad news, because DDR RAM is way more expensive than DDR2.

Last but not least, you said: "I'm upgrading strictly for gaming", so I highly recommend you to buy a new computer. You're going to upgrade PCI video card, DDR RAM and PSU, and if you just spend couple of hundreds more dollars, then you will own a much better computer.

Anyway, I love my Dell Dimension 3000 and have been living happily with it. I can play games like Counter-strike, Lord of Rings, or Neverwinter Night.... easily. I also have only 1GB of RAM: http://www.directron.com/twinx13200c2pt.html . So you won't make a wrong choice either way.

A:Big Video card compatiblity question + power question

Google your PC and said you have a 250 Watt power supply (may be true or not but hey..its Cnet that said it) On Newegg it said that the 1550 needs a 420 watt or greater...From those numbers well...You'll need a new power supply. Or you can just upgrade =D

Alright two questions for this post.

First one is I want to know if this CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727 is compatible with this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128416 because the mother board does not support the CPU type ( Phenom II X4) or am I wrong?

next is if that motherboard has integrated graphics, can I still then put a video card on it?

Thanks in advance

Outlook Express Question:

I just bought a new computer and want to move my spam filters (message rules and blocked senders list) to my new computer. It has taken me two years to build this filter system which has hundreds of rules and blocked senders. It was very effective cutting my spam from about 75-125 messages a day to about 3 or 4 a day.

Jumpdrive question:

I am using a 128 mb jumpdrive to move files from old computer to new. Can I compress this jumpdrive to double it's capacity and if I do is there any downside to doing so?

Thanks for all help offered.

A:Case fan question and other power connections question

If you connect them to your mobo then it will be able to monitor their speeds via the yellow wire. If you connect them to your PSU it doesnt matter which 4 pin molex connector you fit them to as they all join up inside the PSU. Another option is to buy a fan speed controller and plug them into that, the advantage is that you can control the speed and therefore the ammount of noise they produce, the more expensive controllers can also monitor speeds and temperature(s).

Hope that helps. Rik.

Hi i am currently running xp sp3 and was wondering if the fire wall it has built in is good enough or should i download 1 on line? and if so what 1 should i download.

Also a couple of friends of mine were having issues with there computers and the installed cc cleaner on to there computers and it cleaned out there registries and they say that there computer ran better. Now my computer isnt slow but it is not running like when i built it i mean i have done much downloading and stuff so but the loose of speed is not enough for anyone to notice but me. I just want to know is it worth downloading some kind of Registry cleaner or is it not. I have heard that they can mess up your computer so.

A:Fire Wall Question and Registry question

As far as firewalls go, I prefer a router. But Ive used zone alarm
in the past, worked pretty well, do a google, there is a free download.

You should have started another thread on the topic of reg cleaners.
I dont use them or recommend them as they can cause more harm
than good. Others will differ. In the future when having 2 questions
please post separately. Thks,,,,

Ive only had the privledge (and by that, I mean, enough money) to build a single CPU (with my brother, it was his) in my life. I recall it has (still works apart from mobo, only recently replaced) a intel core 2 quad. I see people talking about bent pins and stuff on CPUs, but I dont remember pins being on the core 2 quad. that was the easiest part I recall, just literally placed the chip in the socket (the heatsink, that was a headache). I dont recall any pins. Are pins literally pins as in thin rods sticking out of the bottom, or what?

A:Sorta random CPU question (no problems, just a question)

Most modern CPU's (Intel at least) no longer have pins on the CPU, but instead the pins are on the socket.

The newer socket 1155 and 1366 (and 2011 for that matter) are just like the Socket 775 you are experienced with the Core 2 Quad you installed, just slightly larger sockets.

It is still very possible to bend pins though, but in this way, you damage the motherboard (with the CPU socket) vs. the CPU. You must be careful when inserting the CPU since dropping it on a corner into the socket CAN bend and damage pins.

So if you've built a system with Socket 775/Core 2 Quad, you should have no problem with Core i3/i5/i7 and newer Intel sockets if this is what you plan to do. Everything is basically the same... just slightly different socket and DDR3 memory vs. DDR2, which are also very similar and just snap in the DIMM slots similarly.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

Hi folks / performance gurus

Got an old server 4 HDD storage bays and SSD with Raid 0 -- created 2 arrays of 2 logical HDD's but 4 physical HDD's (1 array 2 X 4TB, 1 array 2 X 3TB) --

Is this better than creating 1 array of all 4 HDD's - I'd lose some space because the arrays have to be the same size.

I'm not too bothered on other issues of RAID 0 -- I want the fastest HDD SPEED I can get out of the system - I've plenty of backups so HDD failure here isn't a primary concern.

SSD is the boot device - works fine -- just need info on setting up these 4 HDD's for the best performnce -- Storage array is set up in BIOS before Windows boots.

Help here appreciated -- I can usually get stuff to work (old Engineer) but don't necessarily have the knowledge to optimize performance.

Cheers
jimbo

A:Windows RAID 0 question performance question

What do you need the array speed for if you have an SSD as a boot up drive? If it's just for storage, raid 0 is like putting all your eggs in 1 basket..I know you have backups but having those drives independent of each other will give you less chances of a failure and headache.

Yes, they should work since they are both GTX 970's. The Corsair HX 850 should also be enough, each card only draws 145 watts of power, you want at least a 500 watt PSU for a single card system and around a 750 watt or better for an SLI system.

Hi people! My question is a little out this place, but I can't find the right forum for this question. Maybe matadors will move this to the right place for me. I'm looking for a device, that can take a Video Tape and a DVD-R, and copy that tape to the DVD, so that I have it on the DVD, not on an old fashioned tape anymore! I have a large library of videos, and I would like to transfer them on to a DVD (consume some space for instance). I saw this kind of device at Target, maybe I can find it on internet for a cheaper price! Your help is very appreciated!

Firstly, I was looking at my logs for Spybot and it doesn't seem to detect anything from my second hard drive, which has the the same Progs installed as my main drive and SpyBot detects files from those. What gives?

Secondly, I was wondering if I should use Disk Defragmenter? Apparently, if you lose power while it's defragmenting, you're pretty much screwed because it moves your files.

My friend has windows XP on an HP ??? PC, twice when he played starcrat, expansion, the game seemed to log itself in while he was logged in.

To help understand:
His name: Ryan
His username: alakazammath

First time: He was waiting for others to join his game, and suddenly it said alakazammath has joined the game, it then said that the other alakazammath wrote: hi me

Second time: While he was looking for a game to join, it said connection to battle.net lost, then when he logged in, it said CD key currently in use by Ryan...

So i have overclocked my system for the first time, i did it the "safe" way, increasing the "CPU Frequency" in the BIOS by 1 at a time. It seems like Frequency 200 is 2GHz. So when i reached 220, it was 2.20GHz.

But if i turn it up to 221, then the CPU runs at a clock speed of 1.78GHz.

I was thinking this could be because i use the stock cooling?

If so i need to buy a new cooler (which im thinking to do, a Zalman Fatal1ty should do.)

I am at 37c idle with this one now (the stock cooler)

The more I try and learn about backups and safe storage the more questions I have Here's my latest I have two identical SATA III Gb hard drives designated question software RAID box NAS Software and question, quot D Drive quot under Win bit Pro They are under an Intel software RAID on a Gigabyte GA-Z X-Gaming motherboard Software RAID question, and NAS box software question All appears well I have the OS and my two mail apps on C Drive which is an SSD drive I use Second Copy Software RAID question, and NAS box software question to automatically back up both mail apps to the RAID D drives each night I also use Z-DBackup Software RAID question, and NAS box software question to make a system image of the C Drive once a week which it creates on the RAID pair The RAID pair D Drive with the system image is backed up to LTO tape once a week What happens if on of the RAID pair of SATA III drives fails I guess the Intel software RAID flags a fault I then have to work out which of the drives is dead and swap it out What if an identical drive is no longer available Will any Gb or larger SATA III drive work paired with the one remaining original working drive Does the RAID rebuild occur automagically How long might one expect it to take With a truly unlucky chain of events leaving the PC dead or missing say from a power surge theft or whatever and I just have my tape how do I go about getting the C Drive image from it to a new PC Do I run a repair disc load the tape deck drivers and the SCSI card drivers it runs on SCSI on an Adaptec card then will there be enough quot stuff quot on the new PC to load the Z-Dat software and restore from said tape I guess I should be brave and quot create quot a fault and see if it all works BEFORE a real world failure As an aside if the motherboard croaked and I had to replace it with a currently available one can I be reassured another board would still read the software RAID created hard drive pair Finally If I bought a new NAS box and put SATA drives in it as a RAID pairing and at a later stage the box hardware croaked would a different currently available box necessarily be able to read the drives I can't see much redundancy in them if this is not the case as the risk of hard drive failure is just moved to the risk of the box hardware failing I am not sure if I am understanding how they work correctly or not Thanks

A:Software RAID question, and NAS box software question

Welcome.

Regarding your questions, first I want to say that RAID 1 is not a viable backup solution. Its only purpose is to allow a system to continue to operate with a hardware failure of one of the hard drives until that drive can be replaced. It is imperative to have the data on the RAID backed up elsewhere.

If one drive fails, the controller will warn you so that you may replace the bad drive. It knows which one.
Depending on the size of the drive, it can take many hours to rebuild, but you can continue to use the system as normal. The rebuilding is transparent.

If you use dissimilar drives, the array size will be equal to the smallest drive and it is not guaranteed that all combinations of drives will work together. You may experience constant rebuilds or worse.

I cannot comment on how to get your system up from tape. I have never used it. With other backup methods, there is usually boot-able media that allows recovering the operating system.

Whether or nor another board can read what is on the RAID 1 will really depend on the controller. I have had luck using Intel controllers. In fact, the data was readable from a single disk without using RAID.

I doubt if a different NAS could use the disks should the box hardware fail. You may be able to get the data though, by connecting one of the disks to a system that can read the file system used by the NAS.
The redundancy is within the NAS while it is operational. It would be nice if you could just get any NAS hardware and use any set of drives from any array but that is not possible today.

As you can see, there is no substitute for a good backup scheme. RAID is not it.
If data is corrupted, it will be corrupt on both members of the array.

RAID is good in servers where continued operation is a necessity. I gave up using RAID 1 years ago. To me, since I have no urgent reason to keep the data available in real time in case of a drive failure, RAID 1 is just a waste of drive space.

I use this space for backups of critical data.

First off.. I'm running a KT3-Ultra Motherboard (MSI) with support for DDR333 (PC2700) ram. I'm just wondering how I actually know that the ram is running at 333, is it possible to know? I can't seem to adjust the ram frequency in the bios (it gives me some options.. SPD, HCLK, HCLK+33 but not 200/266/333). According to MSI's manual I should have those options.. ahH!

I'm building a computer and I'm looking at getting an Athlon XP 2800+ 333Mhz and memory of 512MB at 400Mhz. Could the different speeds cause a problem?

A:CPU Question

No, it won't be a problem at all, but it'll be kind of a waste to buy the 400mhz memory, because it will run at 333mhz anyway. So you could save some money by getting 333mhz (PC2700) memory. Unless you plan on overclocking, in which case the 400mhz stuff will better suit your needs.

If I installed a USB 2 device, do the usb 2 capabilities pertain only to that device and/or to that USB 2 socket or do all my usb sockets now contain USB 2 capabilities?

I have Win98. I installed a USB 2 converter (IDE to USB 2). It ran considerably faster after I installed USB 2.

Will USB 2 be available only when I have that particular device in that particular socket, or will that usb socket always have USB 2 capabilities (no matter what the usb device) or do all my usb sockets now have USB 2 capabilities?

Currently I have a fairly fast system and it works fine for me. I want to upgrade to Win 7 just so that I can get to know who it works. I have it on my laptop but don't use it often, I figured why not upgrade my desktop to Win7 also. My question is, if I don't need the power of 64 to run several apps and what I have now works fine for me should I go with Win 7 32 bit??? From what I read people run into more software issues with the 64 bit and from what I can tell I don';t need 64 bit.

With Win7 and adding 2 more GB RAM for a total of 4GB will notice a big difference in performance over my XP Pro now ??

A:A question about 32 or 64 bit

There wont be much performance difference..but 64 bits can access more memory than 32 bits.4 GB of RAM is ideal to run windows 7 64 bit.

I was curios, so i looked in my task manager and saw that about 1.32 of my 4 RAM was being used. I was wondering how much of this 1.32 soley was responsible for Vista? Also, my brother said there was a setting you can change to make vista use less ram... so any imput is appreciated..
thanks

A:A question about RAM...

I think you may find that the overall experience with Vista and Ram is a lot more pleasant. It was really nice in XP to crack open task manager and see that you have 2 gigs of ram and a whooping 1.8 free.

Vista is a lot better at managing Ram then prior versions of Windows. No longer look in the task manager and see that it is using this huge number and think to yourself "wow...this sure is eating up my Ram".

Unused Ram is wasted ram! I have used Linux for years and Linux uses this theory when it comes to memory and FINALLY Windows got it right!

Ram will be released and refreshed when needed to accommodate new programs you may open. Now Vista likes to keep small chunks of your most used programs in memory for later use if you so decide to use that program again, if you don't it will release it for something new.

Long story short, Vista is not the "resource hog" that some people like to claim it is! It is more efficient! So for some reason it doesn't seem to be freeing Ram for your new programs, start worrying! But if it working fine, it is doing what it was designed to do and enjoy the benefits of having memory management that not any previous version of windows can even come close to.

Hope I was a help!

DDR-333 is DDR ram. It is also known as PC 2700. DDR 2 will also be designated PC2-### is also known as PC3-####

The # represents a series of numbers Such as PC2-6400 or PC3-8500

As I understand it Ram chips of different speeds will run at the slower speed (ie 2100.)

Though there are other potential pitfalls - such as different Ram modules being incompatible.

Your best bet would be to only use the PC2700 (333 Mhz) Ram on its own.

Also - what motherboard do you have ?

Hi guys quick one here,

assuming your motherboard takes (for example) PC 2700 and PC3200 RAM do you have to buy the one that you have already, what i mean is if you already have one stick of 512MB PC2700 can you add a 512MB PC3200 or does it have to be another PC2700??

Is it also the same for the speed, i.e. if you MOBO supports, 266,333,400 mhz can you buy either regardless of what your other stick is or do both sticks have to be the same mhz!?

Just wondering!

Thanks!

A:RAM Question

DDR RAM is backwards compatible by standard. So the faster stick will just runŽat the speed of the slower one.

You have better chances at avoiding trouble if you use the same speed and same brand memory. That is especially true when you want to tweak your system to the max.

A:question about XP cd

System restore CDs...include O/S, drivers, and junk software which the OEM may want to include.

AFAIK, system restore/recovery CDs from an OEM (Gateway, HP, etc.) will not work on a system that does not have the components of the original system. This is by design, of course.

To confirm the terms of use for such CDs, you need to go to the website of the system manufacturer, IMO...or consult the owner/user manual which was issued with the system.

The more cache on the CPU, the faster the system will run - it is one of the differences between a full Pentium and a Celeron.

- could an external portable HDD (one that's not plugged into a wall) work? or would it need power? would it be able to charge a small mp3 player battery? i'm not worried about how speed will be effected, just if the devices will work or not. the salesguy said they'd work, but a printer would not.
- is there anything else i need to consider as far as limitations of USB hubs go?
- i had some other questions, but cant recall them.

thanks

I have a pretty decent knowledge about most computer components but I seem to lack in HDD experience. Im building a new computer from a barebones kit I purchased online, and it comes with a 1TB 5900rpm 32mb cache hard drive. My current computer has a 250gb 7200rpm 8mb cache hard drive and I was wondering which one of these I would have better performance with. I have a feeling even with the slower rpm of the 5900, the 32mb will actually increase my performance over the 7200/8mb.

Any clarification would be great and very much appreciated. Also the 250gb is from a 2007 build so it has at least 4 years of use in it already.

Thanks in advance.

A:HDD question

I would lean towards the 1TB drive. Mostly because of the larger cache, but also because its new. You wont really know which will be better unless you try both of them. I'd install the OS and whatever else is needed(drivers, updates, programs, etc) on the 1TB, then clone the C:/ drive to the 250GB drive and give it a trial run. Then you could install the one you don't intend to use as your primary master as the primary slave drive to use for backup images. Always an intelligent thing to do.

I ve heard great things about this forum from friends so when I had a question that Google just couldn t answer I knew it was time to check out this forum a last resort for me Situation This is my situation I am a Starcraft and League of Legends player so when I m at school and I ve got some down time I like to hop on my laptop and Think! Question SSH I - play a little SSH Question - I Think! not in class but I m unable to do so because of blocked ports and such Diplomacy I have talked with one of the IT guys and he said that they block ports to limit bandwidth consumption I told him that makes no sense since youtube VOIP and even Facebook can take up just as much or even more but he told me that it s just the approach they have chosen to take TOS EULA I have signed no agreement and the college campus network has no password I have a desktop at home with a nice internet connection but I m at school hours of the day so I d like to make use of the internet that I am paying for technically I m paying for the college internet as well Now that my morality is not at stake I ll continue Proposition As I stated above I have a windows desktop at home with an internet connection and I bring my windows laptop to school with me everyday I know what I want to do but am not sure how to do it or if it is possible I have not been able to find any tutorials anywhere some were close but not exactly what I was looking for Here is my proposition Using an SSH connection through port one of the few unblocked ports to my desktop at home from my laptop at school I have looked at programs like PuTTY but I cannot find a tutorial on how to use it correctly I know it will take more than just PuTTY but there are many proxy programs I have also looked into VPN s but am unsure if it will suit my needs I would rather tunnel to my own computer to increase my connection and SSH is just so much more secure Any information would be greatly appreciated I want to stay away from free trials of proxies and YourFreedom they re just too slow of a connection to play Even HotSpotShield is giving me unplayable latency Disclaimer I know there are IT men here that will hate me and tell me to go do homework and I understand that However the reason the IT at the college gave me simply does not make sense had he said it was against the rules to play games at school I would have immediately stopped I have every right to use my share of bandwidth at school The people on facebook and skype aren t doing homework either nbsp

Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me out with an ISP question>.....I went to a chat server where ppl can see the city and state that I am dialing from by doing a "whois" on my nicname!...Is there anyway to hide that while on a chat server?...I don't think it's real safe having ppl know exactly what city and state your in when it comes to chatrooms! So if anyone if familiar with how i could hide the city and state i'm dialing from..I sure would appreciate ..Thank You

A:ISP Question

I'm guessing that this information is provided in your domain (i.e. the IP address of your computer in words instead of numbers). This is done in many ISPs. The only way I can think of to hide something like that would be to connect to the chat room via a proxy. How you do this depends on what kind of a chat room it is, if it is just an HTML or JS chat room (one that is right on a web page) then you could probably defeat it easily by running your connection through a proxy. Go to www.silentsurf.com or www.the-cloak.com to find one. If it is not an HTML chat, it might be more complicated. What kind of chat room is it?

I read something on another forum about if you are using x86 and want to upgrade to x64 you can use the same key to activate both . Any truth in that at all ? I have OEM and not boxed retail.

Thanks

A:X64 question.

Yes, you can use your activation key for both. However to install 64bit version you need disc with Vista x64. Sometimes OEM discs have x86 version of Vista only.

Ok, I upgraded to WinXP SP2 and instantly realized that Microsoft CRM doesn't work with it. Shame on me for thinking that Microsoft's products would remain compatible with its OS.

At any rate - I cannot be without the CRM, so I performed System Restore to a time prior to the installation of SP2. The machine shows SP1, yet I'm still getting the same problem - cannot log on to the CRM. Obviously, whatever changed hasn't been changed back.

Can anyone offer some advice - or should I just format?

I'm only half-joking. I can smell a long, difficult road back.

A:What To Buy Question, Please

Everybody has a horror story about an experience. And mostly it's just because these devices are made pretty cheaply and often just give up after a year or two.

With that said, I've been extremely happy with my Linksys equipment. I've had a BEFSR41 and a WRT54G2 for the past 5-6 years.

These devices are very simple to setup. Especially the hardwired computer. You simply plug it in and it works. With the wireless, you just have to setup the SSID on the router and the WEP/WPA key on the router and put the same thing on the wireless computer and it should connect.

I use G myself and haven't seen a need for a new N model.

Cheers,

A:Question

No, that is not legal. The license key is only for one copy of XP, and installing it on more than one computer is likely to cause problems after 30 days (when activation is required) and with Windows Update (at any time).

A:Help please 64 bit question

Hi biertonco, and welcome to the vista forums

On vista x64 you should have both a Program Files and a Program Files(x86) folder

the Program Files is used for fully 64 bit programs and the Program Files(x86) is for 32 bit programs which will run in compatibility mode

This is totally normal and by design.

hope this helps

A:RAM question

DDR2 PC2-6400 @ 800MHz whether in dual channel or not is still PC2-6400 regardless of the model number.

The model number of the ram is not important. Dual channel is better though when the ram sticks have the same number, but is not required. You will notice no significant difference with 4 sticks having different model/serial numbers- just as long as all sticks are DDR2 PC2-6400

I've always been led to believe that adding more memory will improve performance.
I have a HP P4 1.6 with 2x256 DDR (PC2100).
Boxing day sales got the better of me and I bought 2 sticks of 512 DDR (PC2100) AZEN RAM. Since I only have 2 slots my old stuff will be useless.
It just arrived yesterday, after reading some of the posts on here I'm thinking that it's probably something I don't really NEED.
Am I going to see any difference, or should I just get my money back?
I'm not a gamer, but I do tend to want to do alot of things at the same time, burn alot of CD's and DVD's and usually have 3 people logged on at any particular time.
Thanks for any advice.

A:RAM question

Per your stated use for your pc, no you wont see any difference.

You'd need a benchmark to even notice, and even then i'd amount to 1-2% overall system performance, optimistically.

I installed the 32 bit version on my C: drive but later decided to install the 64 bit version as well on my D: drive as that would allow me to utilize all of my 4GB RAM.

Now my question is, does this affect the overall system performance? Also, the drivers that I installed for my 32 bit version, will work on my 64 bit version as well, right?

If not, can somebody link me to the 64 bit drivers for;

Dell Inspiron n5010 with these specifications:
Intel core i3 M 350 2.26 GHz

1-you can only run one system at a time having the other on the HD does nothing in terms of performance problems.

2-32 bit drivers dont work on 64 bit.

3-you can get 64 bit drivers from the same place you got 32bit (support.dell.com)]

Dont expect miricles. Remember 64 bit will let you use all 4 gigs but will use much more than it allows you to use. It is more resource intensive than 32 bit

A:Question on RAM

DDR just doesn't fit into plain SDRAM slots and you can damage your computer if you try to force it.

Unless you have one of those motherboards that have both kinds of memory slots (looking at your CPU you probably don't) then there is nothing to do. Sell that DDR or upgrade your motherboard.

If you had Registry Keys removed accidentally could you restore them with System Restore?

A:A Question.

Yes, if Sytem Restore is working properly and you have not previously told it to turn off. This is an important use for it.When System Restore works it is great ! However, it is very problematic. All sorts of viruses and other malware can disable it an keep it from working. To guarantee that the Registry gets backed up regularly and thoroughly you can install ERRUNT.http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.htmlOnce installed it runs automatically every time you start up.A nice feature of ERUNT is that if you can no longer boot into your usual login account, but can still boot into Safe Mode then you can browse to C:\WINDOWS\ERUNT and into a particular day's folder, run ERUNT which will fully restore your Registry. Any modifications that a virus or other malware made to the Registry will be removed. ERUNT is not able to remove malware files that exist on your hard drive, but can effectively stop many from starting up due to their Registry entries.
