Q: History.

I am not sure if my question belongs in the Windows or Browser category, butI think that it wouldbe a browser problem. Not a big deal, but I noticed a day ago that I do not have access to History any longer, by clicking on the Favorites button. I checked internet options, and it is set up OK, 20 day retention for History, but I want to get the option to view these files. I cannot find any options regarding this.

Preferred Solution: History.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I always delete history in by clicking wrench menu >> settings >> clear history >> from beginning and tick all options..

I just noticed it has still stored all histories of mine for many days that I can see when I click wrench menu >> "history"

I tried deleting again but still it was there.

I managed to delete it finally manually by deleting the userdata folder in the path C:/documents and settings/users/username/local settings/application data/google/chrome/user data

But I wonder if this is something virus in my computer or a bug in browser itself.

A:[SOLVED] chrome do not clear history but it shows history cleared

Have you considered using ccleaner to do that stuff? I wouldn't touch google chrome if you paid me. Which is funny because my employers use it but I personally would not at home as think it is very flaky, very unsecure and buggy.

So it would not suprise me that there is some sort of bug which is not deleting the history but I cant really help you as I dont use it. I am sure others can though.

I would like to be able to either turn off and / or clear the history pane that appears on the right side of each contact in the People App. I've searched and searched and cannot find any way to accomplish this. I must be missing something simple? Surely there are times when most of us would like to delete or clear the history.

Also, I notice that some of my contacts show something in the history pane, while others with whom I've had recent contact do not. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a bug? My wife's computer shows history going back weeks, while mine only appears to have history of a day or two. Another inconsistency. Why?

Actually I'm trying to do exactly what is proposed here, and file history is not behaving as expected. I restored a full image I took a few months ago, which worked great. When I tried to restore the intervening file history, though, it only sees the three month old restore point, and gives me no option to restore the more recent files I can see are on the history drive. I could move them by hand but they now have the dates appended to the file names, and it will be a huge task.

Any ideas to get file history to see the more recent files on the history drive?

A:get file history to see more recent files on history drive

When you restored File History lost the cross references for the newer "changes". You can only do it manually, All you have to do is go to the last known or good date in File History's files and use copy & replace. If you have 7Zip you can even set it up in dual panel to navigate easier.:

I'm new to this site. I mainly joined to take a look round the web. dev. section.

Anyway, I've wandered into this area and so, in the spirit of sharing info, I though you may be interested in this post that explains why deleting your browser history (or using private browsing) will not stop people seeing your browsing history.

It really surprised me when I read through it earlier!!

I've used gpedit to allow manual control of updates and manually download and install updates when available, and I set "Notifiy to download" option. That gave me control similar to what I had with Win7. Or so I thought. But the Reliability Monitor shows the installation of many more updates than shown in Update History. Some of them are driver installations so don't represent actual Windows updates, but many of the are updates to Windows "apps" (Skype, Phone, Solitaire, Twitter, etc.). Are these updates considered to be different from "Windows updates"?

Now, I did check the "Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows" option, but I assumed that meant it would give the same kind of download notification.

Is there any way to turn off this automatic installation of Windows apps updates? I use none of the Microsoft Windows apps.

Is there a way to have start->run history kept while not keeping a history of the recently launched programs from the menu?

I know under the properties you have "Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu", but this is what controls both.
I'm figuring theres probably some registry entry that will let me control them individually.

My daughter has been sneaking around on the internet and I am curious as to where websites you have been are stored other than history and cookies?
I use Mozilla Firefox and WXP Pro.

A:Where does history get stored besides cookies and history?

At first obviously you can check the cookies and history through Firefox itself.

The problem is, if you've set the browser to delete cache, cookies and history when you exit or at any time since your daughter visited, nothing will be left. Index.dat files are there (usually) but it's a little complicated and doesn't usually let you know with much accuracy who visited what and when, thus not too reliable for a certain time/day checkup.

I can only think if you download Super Winspy then you'll be able to check all the latest files accessed, URL history, cookies, search history, run history, open/save history, address bar history, documents opened on computer and the index.dat history which will also show any content viewed and visited (default search location is C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user login>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat).

It'll cover pretty much everything computer related.

All this depends on how much has been deleted priorly, if so.

I have a question about how internet explorer is linked with the operating system on windows computers let me explain I never Why be IE of this, history pc history on files all to seems do does use internet explorer it's a security risk it's slow but i recently opened it while disconnected just to remind myself what the interface looked like Whilst in it i looked at my history it contained a list of all the files on my own hardrive which i have opened Why does IE do this, history seems to be history of all files on pc recently but none of these were files that had been opend with IE Why does IE do this, history seems to be history of all files on pc The history showed jpeg files i open them with microsoft office picture manager png files alos with ms picture manager pdf files i open them with chrome gif files i use chrome for them skp files these are d model files internet explorer wouldn't have clue what they were they open with sketchup blend files d files should be of no interest to IE it can't read them i use blender Why does IE do this, history seems to be history of all files on pc to open them All these things were in the history i recognised the names as the names of various files on my hardrive but i know that most of the files listed have never been opened with internet explorer and i haven't even opened internet explorer for months So i want to understand why these are contained in it's history it didn't open them why would it remember them Does internet explorer share it's history with recent files or something I also realise that this is related to why even though i nevr use IE when i run CCleaner many of the files it lists to clean up are internet explorer temp files if i don't open it internet explorer why does it make temp files I assume the reason is the same reason as it lists it's history as being files it couldn't possible have been used to open and which i know it never did Is this part of how deeply IE is integrated into windows systems It had listed files in it's history that i had indeed opened recently but hadn't and in some cases couldn't possibly have due to file formats opened with internet explorer

Use the "Clear History" in Internet Option should do the trick. This will only delete the history in current user's folder. If you want to delete history from other user's folder, you have to be a administrator.

If you go to the drop down button to show your internet history, nothing comes up. However, if you type in "www.y" it will show in the history. If you type "www.m", will show up. "www.l" brings up

I have cleared the history, cookies, temp internet files, downloaded objects, temp files, flushed the dns cache, ran spysweeper, adaware, spy bot, and system cleaner.

No matter what I do, these 3 sites continue to pop up in the history ONLY when you type them in.

In my opinion, I really don't think you can base your project entirely on "Network Interface Cards". I think you will have to bring into the picture where it all started, basically from Ethernet. Check this site to get a feel of things and work off of this.

Good luck and post any other questions or comments.

I have the usual problems with keeping my computer clean. I do all (if not most) of the preventative measures. However, I have noticed that my computer is still slow. I open the Task Manager and the processes show that System Idle Process CPU usage is high, I look on the Performance tab and see that the CPU Usage History is still low (under 50%) but the Page File Usage History is almost at 100%. I do not know what this is but could this be a major cause of the computer being slow?

A:Pfu History

Welcome to Bleeping ComputerWe have a self-help thread for assistance with your problem. Please see Slow Computer?, Use this troubleshooting checklist.System Idle process is used for measuring how much idle time the CPU is having at any particular time(100% minus the sum of all tasks CPU usage). It will display how much CPU Resources, as a percentage are 'idle' and available for use. One instance of this process operates per CPU, and runs to occupy the processor when other threads are not running. Normally this process should take up at least 90%+ of processor time on average (this is the value in the CPU column). To understand what the memory usage fields represent, read "Performance fields overview".

hi everybody
how do you clean your com completealy so nobody can resarect old history, completly off harddrive without losing your photos personal stuff is there a way??

What browser are you using? You can also run Windows Disk Cleanup. While this will not erase the files, they will be almost impossible to retrieve under normal condiditions; over time, and especially if you defragment your hard drive regularly, these will be over-written by other file saves.A second alternative is to determine where these files are located, and use a manual application such as Eraser to over-write the files completely.Regards,John

Using IE9 beta - I can go to internet options and clear all browsing history - yet when I type in a new url on the "go to" bar? (not likely what it is called but you know) it autotypes similar spelled urls where I have been - how do you stop it from doing this. What is the point of deleting history if you are not deleting it all?

Deleting history deletes the actual pages you've visited. The drop-down list in the address bar is a separate feature called "Autocomplete"

To configure this the way you want, open IE9, click the gear-wheel icon top-right & choose "Internet Options".

Click the "Content" tab.
In the "Autocomplete" section, click "Settings".
Untick the "Autocomplete" tick-box.
Restart IE9.

There should now be no drop-down entries in the address bar & IE won't create a new list in there in future.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!
Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. This is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Upgrading Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 4.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java!
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Your log looks fine.

Please perform a scan with Kaspersky Webscan Online Virus Scanner

1. Read the Requirements and Privacy statement, then select "Accept".
2. A new window will appear promting you to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky - "Do you want to install this software?".
3. Click "Yes" or select "Install" to download the ActiveX controls that allows ActiveScan to run.
4. When the download is complete it will say ready, click "Next".
5. Click "Scan Settings" and check the option to use the Extended Database if available otherwise Standard).
6. Click "Scan Options" and select both "Scan Archives" and "Scan Mail Bases".
7. Click "OK".
8. Under "Select a target to scan", click on "My Computer".
9. When the scan is complete choose to save the results as "Save as Text" named kaspersky.txt to your desktop and post them in your next reply.

Kaspersky does not remove anything but will provide a log of anything it finds. On August 8th, 2006 Kaspersky updated the software used for Free Online Virus Scanner. In order to continue using the online scanner you will need to uninstall the old version (if previously used) from your Add/Remove Programs list and then install the latest version. To do this, follow the steps here and reboot afterwards if your system does not reboot automatically or it will show 'Kaspersky Online Scanner license key was not found!

(like revamping the warehouse, taking on the operations mgr job, and graphic designs) the operations mgr was given a lateral move. the warehouse mgr now reports directly to the CFO. we no longer have a graphics designer. he looks like he is becoming a one man show.
he has now bought 2 new laptops for 2 new outside sales people. without my input. (He bought cheep from "Circuit City", what looks to be a flashy consumer product. not a biz laptop.)
Question: should i start looking for a new job. or just go with the flow? am i just being paranoid?

Hello All,

Just joined and find the site very informative.

I have a problem which seems pretty recent in that my laptop running Vista Home Premium has stopped remembering History.

It will keep the History whilst I work throughout a session but if I restart or turn off then restart my laptop, the History will have disappeared.

I use Firefox, but also have IE, and Google Chrome. I have checked with all three browsers and none of them retain my History.

Is this therefore a Microsoft problem?

I have my History settings set to 10 days.

Can anyone advise me of a fix to this? I have checked all the settings regarding History settings and they all seem normal.

I'm using IE8 on a Windows 7 computer. However, for some reason, last week IE8 stopped saving my internet history. It shows up in the history tab only when I am in 'View by Order Visited Today', and only for that session. If I go to the drop down view and change it to the same view (so I click 'View by Order Visited Today' again), all the sites disappear. As well, none of my sites appear in any other view (View by date, site, etc.). This happens whether I'm running IE 32 bit or 64 bit, as administrator, or with no add-ons. I discovered that my history still appears in another profile. I'm not sure if it is a malware problem, but I ran 'HijackThis' and noted that some files were missing from System32 (such as lsass.exe, vds.exe, etc.). Any suggestions?

A:IE History

The better way is to get Parental Control Software (Google search).

But remember, security starts with having separate Windows Logon for EVERY user, AND that you (parents) are the only ones how have Administrator Rights (allowed to change the system).

Your children should only be allowed User Rights at logon.

It could be that one of the Parental Control Software utilities in the link will do this for you. BUT (there is always a but) you need to ensure that your children cannot figure out your password or find it.

See my blog post

OPPS - Almost forgot. Needless to say do NOT have your children arround when you install any Parental Control Software.

I have setup and "Kids" account that they use so they're not using the Guest account. I would like to know if there is a way to prevent them from clearing the browsing history in Firefox so that I can see the sites that they have been visiting.

I know that I could just tell them to stop doing it, but then they'll know I'm checking up on them and they'll only delete the sites they don't want me to see and leave others visible. Right now, they've been deleting the entire browsing history for the day.

If you change the permissions for them you also change them for you, if you use the same profile. One method is to use FEBE, a firefox addon that backs up profile info. Have it run every x hours and even if they delete the built in browser history you will have another copy. You could also change the permissions to make the history folder read only but then they would know cuase they couldn't delete them. there are also 3rd party apps that will store the info for you in a different location

Good luck and let us know if you need more help

Thank you for your input!

A:importing history

Your history includes only website activity that took place on your PC on that particular user account, including any website activity via remote access (to which the local user would have to give their consent if their firewall was working properly).

If you share a computer with someone else & you both use the same user account, the activity for both of you will be recorded in the web-browser history.

Hey there everybody....

Just a question about the history list in IE:

Why is it that if you click "Clear History" to, well, do exactly that, some sites remain. They are not visible in the history Folder though, but they appear when you type in the site you want to visit (autocomplete) as if you never cleared the history if the 1st place. The only way I can get around it is to turn Autocomplete off. I thought that there might be registry entries for these sites, but I find nothing.

This isn't really an issue but more of an irritation, especially cos I dunno how to fix it!

When I import info from an .txt file, it does not generate the history. It does generate history only if I enter the info into a record manually.

Why would it not generate when importing from a file?

Thanks for your help!

A:Not generating history in ACT! 6.0

If using the normal ACT! import, it either creates new records or over writes all the fields. It's not updating specific fields. So what would be the point of adding a history for each field?

If you wanted to update fields within the records, you'd need to use something like OakMerge

I use a Dell laptop with Windows Home Premium. A couple of months back I found that the history table was not showing anything at all, re the sites I had visited. By switching off User Control, the history was then again recorded. I ticked the boxes to hold history for up to 3 weeks, and everything was being stored correctly.
However, each time I started using the laptop there was the warning - User Account Control switched off. I have ignored this until yesterday, and started to delve into UAC and its use. Microsoft recommends that it should always be switched ON, so once again I switched UAC back on.
I again find that history is not being logged once more. Am I doing something incorrectly, or should I leave UAC switched off ?

A:Is there a way to use something in the history of the address bar

Welcome to TSG.

Not sure about FF3 but it should be the same as FF2 and IE.

Open the history side bar (CTRL+H or toolbar icon, usually a clock). Once you find the link there, you can right click, then choose Copy Link Location from the pop up menu. You can then paste it into the address bar and edit it, or into your favorite text editor, etc

You can always click the link, and edit it while/after the page loads, or click stop then edit.
