I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Mozilla released latest version of its browser today: Firefox 1.0.3. For those who have previous version, you may just download/upgrade to new version when prompted or go to Tools>Options>Advance>Software Update and click on Check Now and follow instructions. It will automatically replace previous version. You do not have to go through the uninstall process of previous version. I just downloaded 1.0.3. Everything went smoothly.

Good Luck.

According to Mozilla Vice President of Products Christopher Beard, Firefox 2.0, which should be available on Tuesday if all goes according to schedule, includes key new usability features missing in the new IE 7.Final Version of Mozilla Firefox 2 Will Be Released Oct. 24So, three new browsers in the same year, after no action for a half decade. How do they stack up? We do a comparison of features, usability, memory, and disk usage to help you decide which you should spend your hard earned?oh wait a minute, they're all free, so you can pick the one you want without worrying about out of pocket. Keep in mind: We're just looking at what's there right now, and not considering what the browser developers may have planned for later additions.Which New Browser Is Best: Firefox 2, Internet Explorer 7, or Opera 9?

A:Firefox 2 Will Be Released Oct. 24

"...after no action for a half decade."
This may be true for Internet Explorer, but certainly NOT for Mozilla, Firefox, and of course Opera. All but the first have constantly upgrade their functionality and provided REAL competition to Microsoft.
Happy Tuesday!

WHERE:
From remote

SOFTWARE:
Mozilla Firefox 0.x
http://secunia.com/product/3256/

DESCRIPTION:
Details have been released about several vulnerabilities in Mozilla
Firefox. These can potentially be exploited to detect the presence of
local files, cause a DoS (Denial of Service), disclose sensitive
information, spoof the file download dialog, and gain escalated
privileges.

1) Web sites may include images from local resources, which can be
exploited to determine the existence of local images, cause a DoS by
referencing device files (e.g. "/dev/tty0"), and potentially steal
passwords from Windows systems via file shares.

2) The file download dialog box truncates filenames, which
potentially can be exploited to spoof file extensions in the file
download dialog.

This is a variant of:
SA10760

3) On Mac OS X, Firefox is installed with world-writable permissions,
which potentially can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain
escalated privileges.

Mozilla has released the next version of its popular web browser Firefox There are a number of under-the-hood changes to this version of Firefox which are designed to make it faster and more reliable But as with any updated program there are a few annoyances which need to be beaten out of it The first one is well known to affect each new version of Firefox when it's first released Addon Compatibility With each new version there's a lag time between final release and Addon writers updating their addons In the past this annoyance could be avoided simply by adding the extensions 3.6 Firefox Released checkCompatibility False preference in about config But version adds a new wrinkle extensions checkCompatibility Firefox 3.6 Released is now ignored In its place is a new Firefox 3.6 Released preference which is supposed to be more flexible extensions checkCompatibility lt version gt Unfortunately there's little to no documentation on this new preference and I have yet to figure out how it works Any advice would be welcome So extensions checkCompatibility False no longer works and if you're like me you now have several addons which are disabled You Firefox 3.6 Released may even be intentionally using an older version of an addon like I am with LinkAlert So what can we do For the moment I'm stuck with manually editing the addon files to trick Firefox into installing them Here's how you do it Open you list of addons and note which ones are disabled for compatibility reasons Go to https addons mozilla org en-US firefox Search for the addon in question and go to it's description page You'll notice that the install button is disabled Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the quot View All Versions quot link Find the version of the addon you want most likely the topmost and newest version Right-Click on the quot Add To Firefox quot button and click quot Save Link As quot Choose a convenient location to save the addon file like the Desktop Repeat steps - for each addon you need You should now have a collection of XPI files corresponding to the addons XPI files are simply ZIP archives with a different extension Rename each XPI file as a ZIP file e g myAddon xpi becomes myAddon zip Inside each archive is a file called install rdf Open this file in notepad and find the line that looks like this em maxVersion em maxVersion change the part to read note the actual number shown may be different from depending on the addon Save the install rdf file and put it back in the archive file overwriting the old one Rename the ZIP file to XPI Repeat steps - for each addon In the Firefox Addon Manager uninstall each of the addons that you downloaded the XPI file for Restart Firefox Drag each XPI file into the Firefox window to install it Restart Firefox Done The other annoyance for me anyway in is that they removed the Properties context menu item They say they did it because very few users ever used it I'm one of those few so I wanted it back Luckily there's already an addon for that https addons mozilla org en-US firefox addon So now Firefox works just as well as did

Thank you Amazing Andrew I was just today thinking about the update. Unless I have brain fade I check here before doing such things. As like you I use properties on many things, I don't ever know how they would know how many people use properties or not. I'm keeping what I got. Going through all those steps just to get back what I got just isn't me. Your a work horse. Thanks again for keeping track of things like this. I would think Mozilla have people looking at this site, maybe they will catch on and change things.

This may not be the correct forum to post this in, but if it isn't I apologise and the mods can certainly move it. Firefox released its "gold" version # 1 today. It seems that several fixes to the prerelease candidate version have taken place. It is probably subjective, but it seems to run faster and Hotmail and some other sites work better with it.

A:Firefox 3.6.4 Beta 4 Released

Quote:
Firefox 3.6.4 Inches Forward, New Beta Download Available.

The next update to Firefox 3.6 inches forward with Mozilla hammering away at the upcoming release, but with slow progress so far. In all fairness, Firefox 3.6.4 is a shift from the refreshes that are served to major versions of the open source browser. In this regard, unlike normal, minor updates focused on delivering stability improvements and security patches, version 3.6.4 is a Frankenstein build, having swallowed codename Lorentz and Firefox 3.7 in order to offer users Out of Process Plugins as soon as possible. At the end of the past week, Mozilla made available for download a new development milestone of Firefox 3.6.4, as it prepares to launch the fully fledged update.

"Firefox 3.6.4 provides uninterrupted browsing for Windows and Linux users when there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins,? an excerpt from the release notes accompanying v.3.6.4 Beta (Build 4) reads. ?If a plugin crashes or freezes, it will not affect the rest of Firefox. You will be able to reload the page to restart the plugin and try again.?

OOPP was the feature that justified Firefox 3.7 for Mozilla. In this sense, when the decision was made to offer OOPP to Firefox 3.6.x users, all plans for Firefox 3.7 were folded. Mozilla already confirmed officially that Firefox 4.0 would be the next major release of the open source browser, a milestone that is currently planned for launch by the end of 2010.

A:Firefox 6 Beta released

Low and behold there I was happily surfing the Net and up pops this box saying Firefox 6.0B1 is ready to install, like it or not.

Installed with a little help from the installer. (see below)

However this release is so hurried or has so little change form 5.0 that even though the release is identified as 6.0 under Help ----About Firefox the introductory page that you get when Firefox updates says "Welcome to Firefox 5"

Four more things.

1. Out of my 20+ addons only two were incompatible with the update and I can live without those two as they only provide some nice to know but not necessary to know information.

2. The update updated to the Program Files(x86)\Mozilla Firefox\ directory. I guess with all of these updates Mozilla has dropped the release number from the Firefox top folder name.

3. The auto install did not work for me, my guess is due to security restrictions. However I went to the Beta website, 6.0 is now there, downloaded the installer and installed 6.0B1 with that. No problems so far.

4. Since this installed into the Program Files (x86) directory path this version of Firefox 6.0B1 that I installed is the x32 version. I tried installing the 6.0 Aurora x64 on one computer a month or so ago. While it installed I couldn't get it to work so I just uninstalled it. I will stay with x32 for now. I don't know if there is as of yet a 6.0B1 for the x64 version.

P.S. I wonder what the odds are that someone will start a new thread on the 6.0B1 release. Just wondering

Get it now: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/beta/My initial non-scientific testing has been positive. 90% of my addons worked fine once I installed the Addon Compatibility Reporter addon which re-enables all addons and allows you to report back to Mozilla which ones work and which ones don't.Overall, Firefox 4 beta 1 seems only a little different from my faithful 3.6. Sure, the tabs are now placed along the top but I can see myself getting used to that.Things do seem more snappy and responsive. And there seems to be a significant, quantifiable, improvement in Javascript execution. I ran both Firefox 3.6 and 4.0b1 through a little benchmark I found online wherein Firefox 4.0b was rated as 266% time faster in executing Javascript.

A:Firefox 4 beta 1 released!

Earlier last week, Mozilla updated the Firefox 3.7 wiki to show potential design changes for Firefox 3.7, and today, updated their wiki to show new mock ups for Firefox 4.0 Windows designs.

The designs are changed to fit better into Windows 7 - as they want to "embrace glass" which is a major goal of Mozilla for the next Firefox release, as well as making them feel more a part of the OS. The designs also work on Windows Vista. A separate design would be in place for lower versions of Windows.

The images below show the ideas that the Mozilla team has, for some potential tab layouts/UI redesigns. Remember that these mock ups are different than the 3.7 ones posted last week. Compare them on the Mozilla Wiki.

lotuseclat79 has put up a news item on the front page that Mozilla has come out with a beta version of an update to the previous 3.5.1 and now it's FF3.5.2 Beta.

The problem is when you download the file from the Mozilla website using the FF browser, when opening the installer file, a warning pops up " the installer comes from an untrusted source, the file is corrupted, click "no"! I save the installer file to the desktop and tried downloading both on-line and off-line with the same result as mentioned above!

Now, i go to the filehippo.com (see the snap below) and it's a totally cool download and hassles-free installation. All the Add-ons are checked for compatibility and all are accepted. Thanks!

This is for those who have had apprehensions about beta downloads! Mozilla has officially announced the release as lotuseclat79 informs us in the TSG news! The download link : http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.5.2&os=win〈=en-US

Now, more importantly, Mozilla has also released FF3.0.12 version, and it is not for those using version 3.5.1 or 3.5.2 beta! It's meant for those folks who are still with the FF3.0.x, and updates for which, Mozilla will end in Jan.2010! I am downloading the stable ver.3.5.2 right now and will let you know how it goes!

A:Firefox 3.5.2.full version officially released!

GOTCHA! Please don't forget to reboot/restart, as soon as the installation is complete! Thank You!

Firefox 28 for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android has been released. For Android, version 28 adds a lot of cool features ? such as predictive lookup from the address (Awesome) bar, the addition of quick share buttons, and support for OpenSearch. On the desktop side of the equation, though, Firefox 28 adds support for the VP9 video codec? and that?s about it. Why I hear you ask? Well, Firefox 28 was meant to include the long-awaited Windows 8 Metro version of the browser ? but at the last minute, citing almost zero demand for Windows 8′s Metro interface, Mozilla?s vice president for Firefox decided to terminate the project and pull the code out of version 28.

from ExtremeTech

I'm shocked, but I wonder how well it would have done. I still hope that they will released it in its entirety to the public.

A:SpywareBlaster 5.0 released! (March 1 released)

SpywareBlaster was one of my favorite tools of the past along with Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware. But things have changed, most browsers already offer about the same kind of protection or better with add-ons like Ghostery and Do Not Track Plus. The most current version of IE also automatically blocks third-party add-ons, Active X controls and Toolbars, users will have to approve the changes in order for them to be enabled and it is very easy to disable them now. Firefox and Google Chrome also auto block third-party extensions and you have to manually enable them. If somethings happens to get past the protection then IOBit Uninstaller can remove the most difficult browser add-ons with ease.

I hate to say it but SpywareBlaster is basically no longer needed since better options are available.

Thanks.

You may want to check, but on my Vista I don't see any new add-on and I don't even have C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack folder. http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2010...lbar-update.ars As part of its regular Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released an update for its various toolbars, and this update came with more than just documented fixes. The update also installs an add-on for Internet Explorer and an extension for Mozilla Firefox, both without the user's permission. As you can see in the Windows Update screenshot above, Microsoft does not indicate that the update will install anything for either browser. It's also not really clear what the installed extension actually does.

A:Microsoft hides mystery Firefox extension in toolbar update As part of its regular Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released an update...

Thanks Broni for the information. As for Firefox can't I just delete the extension. Let us all see which company gits back to B/C with some sort of answer.

Found an article at WindowsITPro that said RC1 was released.
Checked at Connect - and it was there!

w00t! And I haven't even installed the pre-RC1 yet!

A:Rc1 Released

I assume you are referring to IE7. A couple of days ago I read an article that quoted a rep from Microsoft as saying that Microsoft would continue to support IE6 as long as XP sp2 is supported. They were not going to abandon it. So, for us users who only use IE when updating Windows, etc. I can't see a rush to install IE7 even when it is finally released later this year. Why take a chance on it? Maybe in a year or 2.
