Spam is being sent from my e-mail address

Q: Spam is being sent from my e-mail address

Someone is sending spam from my e-mail address to my e-mail contacts. I only know this because people are asking and some e-mail are being returned as not delivered.

They don't show up as being sent FROM my sent box.

How can I stop it??? I don't use a password, but I guess it's too late for that now.
I recently started using Thunderbird for my e-mail. I was using Yahoo.

What if I delete all of my contacts???

Please help!!

Preferred Solution: Spam is being sent from my e-mail address

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Firstly clean your PC from malware and viruses. After that, change your e-mail password. It should stop the spam.

Hi

I woke up to a full inbox of returned mail and out of office automated responses to scores of emails that were apparently sent by me.
I worry about how many emails actually have got through to friends, family, colleagues etc.
It appears a bot has accessed my contacts list - as far as I can make out.

I have run scans through my firewall and anti virus software and also spyware and malaware scans with nothing being found.
Is there anything else I should do?

Thank you for your help.

A:Spam mail sent out from my address

Hello.

First of all. . . you should change all your passwords.

Secondly. . . what have you scanned with?

Greetings All I am interested in opening a discussion on the following scenario A good friend of mine and me both have Yahoo E-Mail Accounts Several months ago evidence showed that his account was getting hacked because about people in his address book were getting spam sent from him that he obviously did not send This was happening about once every two weeks I said the first thing to do would be change your e-mail password I think he must of done this because for about two months everything was fine until today when his contacts including me got Dealing An Trusted Question? E-Mail Senders Spam From Spam With spammed again The thing is I don t want An E-Mail Spam Question? Dealing With Spam From Trusted Senders to just click the Spam button because he is a friend and trusted sender Than it is An E-Mail Spam Question? Dealing With Spam From Trusted Senders going to block good e-mail legitimately sent by him from getting to me If you are familiar with Yahoo Mail there is the default An E-Mail Spam Question? Dealing With Spam From Trusted Senders option where you can read e-mail from your contacts first Good e-mail comes in with his name from my address book Every couple of months the spam comes in and when it is the spam it is shown as being from his e-mail address domain name For example Let s say that this his name was quot Joe Blow quot If it s legit from him it shows his name with the Subject that he tells me the e-mail is about If it is from the Spammer it just gives his e-mail address often with no subject in the subject line so at least I can tell between the two I used the Yahoo Mail Spam Report Form which asked for Full Headers and the Content of the E-Mail so that should help Anyone else have any suggestions Obviously I have never opened anything from the spammers and all Anti-Virus and Security stuff at least on my computer s end is up-to-date and very clean Jack nbsp

A:An E-Mail Spam Question? Dealing With Spam From Trusted Senders

For your friend, I would suggest doing as many antivirus scans, spyware scans and malware scans as possible. There are numerous online scanners, like Housecall, ESET, Panda, BitDefender and Kaspersky.

Ask him to take a look at this:

I received a phone call this morning from my ISP telling me that "major amounts" of emails were sent out yesterday morning using my IP address.  They were not sent from my email account.  My ISP is small town and I don't think they know how to help me, if they do - they're not telling me.  I've run scans on my computers using my antivirus software and they've found nothing.  I'm also not experiencing any noticable problems with my devices.

I need to find the problem, my ISP is threatening to cut me off if the emails continue.

Thank you!

A:Spam Being Sent from My IP Address

One thing you can try to make sure a previous infection didn't set up your computer as a Proxy Server.  Go to Control Panel ==> Internet Options ==> Connections ==> Lan Settings ==> Proxy Server (Make sure Proxy Server box is not ticked.  If it is untick it.)  If it is ticked, possibly a previous infection set up your computer as a Proxy Server so they can mass email thru your computer.  If not the issue, then need to continue to look.

I recently received a spam email that originated in Romania despite its alleged Arizona origins. Included in the email was an opt out link that resolved to an IP address of a form that I did not recognize (hxxp://188.4901037) . Though I have no intention of clicking on the link, I'm puzzled by the address and the long string that followed it. Is it some sort of attempt to induce a buffer overflow? Can someone more knowledgeable than I explain to me what I was seeing? The link in its entirety is shown below.

I have recently started to get returned emails from people who I don't know and haven't sent e-mails to. these are messages that are hitting their spam filters and being rejected/returned for verification. Is there any way to stop this? Is there some way to check if these messages are coming from my PC? I don't see anything in my sent items folder. If not from my PC, is there any way to identify the source from the returned e-mails and possibly stop them?

Using outlook 2007, Windows XP

Thank you

Sounds like a virus. There is one that e-mails using random addresses. Go to Symantec website and download fixes for the latest viruses.

A:spam emails being sent from my address

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of SDFix and make sure you are disconnected from the Internet after downloading the program but before extracting the files.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with SDFix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to the clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log.

Long story, but I'm dealing with a network here and have only basic (very basic) knowledge and common sense on my side.

We have a problem with emails being sent to everyone in a person's email address book in Outlook. The email reads "Karen has new pictures to show you. I told you I'd send some new ones... these are very erotic." This email is wreaking havoc and the issue needs to be resolved... anyone have any ideas on where I could start?

Thank you

Ok well let's start here and see what we see//Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Not even sure if this should be here.

This AM my web-based Yahoo mail sent a spam to everyone on my contact list. I constantly see others having this happen to them but I do a daily scan with MBAM,SuperAntiSpyware and Windows Essentials and so far the computer LOOKS clean.

I have no idea about the web-based (Yahoo!) mail client, but it wold need an impetus from my computer to go sending crud about, I should think.

Asking Yahoo! about this proved slightly less frustrating that trying to thread a needle while on a vibrating bed.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Changing your yahoo email password should help. You may want to change all of your other online passwords as well. Rule of thumb... the longer and more complicated the better. Check out these blogs from Norman. Blog 1 Blog 2Hope this helps!

This company or spammer is sending us spam with our own email address. I have tried to write them that we will file charges or whatever our State Attorney General thinks is best.

But none of the emails or applications on their site will go through.

What can we do besides going along with the State Attorney General.

A:sending us spam with our own email address

hello ,

do not open the messages for that is what started it

block the message

is it thru (outlook) or another mail system

get a good spam blocking software

also listing (e-mails & company address's ) in forums will give the spamers that browse forums looking for address' & company names a link to you or the company

is your company big enough to have an IT tech ?

if so then contact hime to solve this issue for then he will have a kinda lock on the system and what we tell you will be kinda useless

let us know

This is very embarassing, as it's an ad for "male" pills and some of these people are older family members that don't understand how this can happen. I understand the spoofing and using my email address to cover up the real address, but how do they get all my email contacts? Will this happen again? Is there anything I can do about it?

i would post a hijackthis log - HIJACK THIS:

Download and copy hijackthis [should be version 1.99.1] to its own folder , it makes backups so keeping them separate and available can be useful.
SO DO NOT put hjt onto the desktop or temp files.

create a directory say my documents/hjt

Note the Spyware tools websites are very often under attack and so I have provided more than 1 location to download from:

Version at 16/12/04

{NOTE: Systems infected with the 'Ms4Hd' rootkit parasite will experience crashes in HijackThis 1.99.x since this parasite deliberately crashes programs that try to detect it. For such cases, Use HijackThis 1.98.2 }

You must make sure all startup programs are selected - to do this:
This does NOT apply to win2K
Open Start> Run and type MSConfig in the 'Run' box.
When the System Configuration Utility opens, go to the 'Startup Tab' and make sure there is a checkmark beside each and every entry entry.
Goto the general tab and makesure that the "normal startup" option is checked.
REBOOT when asked to by Windows to complete the change.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (Fix checked button appearing, may take a while on some systems), the scan button will change to “Save Log”.
Click on “Save Log” and then it should save and open in NotePad.
Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.
DO NOT FIX ANYTHING wait advice from one of the many security experts in this forum.

I want to know how can I tracing the home ph. no., St. address, owner name from a email id. If it needed any software or other things please tell me the name of those things.

A:how can i tracing the ph. no.,St. Address, owner name by the e-mail address

you can try typing the email address in google or you can go to one of those sites where you pay for them to get others private info. Thats the best you can do.

If there is illegal activity going on, just turn the email over to the authorities.

Someone is spamming with what looks to be my husband s Email address For the past three or four days he has been getting two or more failure of delivery notices for messages he obviously did not send The failure of delivery notices are returned either because the address to which it is sent does not exist or because it is bounced by the receiver s security software None of the receivers that husband's from Email address Spam coming we have seen bounced back are in his Outlook address book so there is no mass mailing work working from Outlook on his machine as far as I can tell He runs Norton s Internet security program with current updated software and virus definitions and he is running SpySweeper which he licenses and which Spam coming from husband's Email address is current with regards to program updates and definitions Both Norton s and SpySweeper show completely clean logs Earthlink is the ISP do I address this with them or is there something else I should do before I address it with them Thanks in advance for your help LAC nbsp

My uncle had his Yahoo hacked awhile back. He's run Malwarebytes repeatedly (clean) and changed his Yahoo mail password, but spam admail continues to be generated to his address book.

I'm assuming this is being done off-site with addresses harvested by the hacking. But is there anything that can be done now to stop it?

A:Hacker still generating spam from address book

Are his contacts receiving spam showing his Yahoo account? If so he can open a new account and cancel the old one. Then notify his contacts so they can ignore or block his old address.

Howdy,

For the last month or so I have been getting 15 to 20 spam e-mails a day. I never open the links but I do click on the e-mails in order to delete them. From what I have read, the fact that I click on them tells the spammer that they are getting through to my computer. I don't know how to delete them any other way. ??

I use Outlook Express. I don't see any type of option in Outlook to block these E-mails. Maybe I am missing something. ???
I download Microsoft updates routinely and once in a while I will see a "junk mail" update. Is that suppose to be blocking these sort of things ?
Do I need a third party program to put a stop to them ?

Thanks for any help you can offer me.
Dennis

First of all, are you using preview pane in Outlook Express? If you are disable preview pane.Instructions are here: http://cybercoyote.org/security/prevpane.htmThis will also tell why it's not a good idea to use preview pane.Disabling preview pane will allow you to delete a mail without opening it.Second, you can set up rules for mail in OE.Open OE, then Tools/Message Rules/then Mail.Create a new rule. You can have the mail sent to a folder when it downloads from the mail server or Delete from the server which will send it into cyberspace, never to be seen again. OR you could highlight the message without opening it, click on Block Sender or Create rule for Message (which brings up the same box as above). This will not prevent all spam. Many times you'll get the same spam mail from different senders and different domains. To better the chances against it, you will need to set up your rules to filter by subject line and message body. As soon as you choose as option, a clickable link will show up in box 3-click that box and add specific words. Make sure to save the rule by clicking OK to everything. Hopefully this will cut down the amount of spam you receive.

A:Spam Mail On My Pc

Here is the 1st rule of thumb.....1. Never, ever, ever use the email account from your isp, if that's what you're using. The next are....2. Never, ever, ever use Outlook Express for your emails.3. Set up a few alias FREE email accounts online.4. If you have a web site, use a form, with scripts or so for your email address and NEVER mailto:[email protected] Go online to check your email. Don't open the door to be tracked and spammed.6. Apply filters to your email program to allow mail ONLY from people you know.7. DELETE all of your POP MAIL and other email account information from your browser(s). About no#1. If your email is coming in from your isp's email account, you may not know how well they do as to filtering out spam mail, and also, you may not know how good they are as far as protecting you from viruses and such, getting into your email box. If you are using your isp's email account. STOP USING IT NOW!About no#2. Outlook Express has more stories to it than I care to talk about. It's a haven for all types of malicious attacks on your computer. It's NOT safe for emails at all. I believe a client/partner of mines hard drive crashed because of the problems he had with Outlook Express. He was getting spammed like crazy. AND he was infected too. But now his hard drive crashedSTOP USING IT NOW!About no#3. If you setup a few FREE email accounts, you'll for 1), be protecting your privacy, and you'll keep your computer from being invaded. (Use Firefox browser) and STOP USING IE. Also, do me a favor, post back if you use Internet Explorer or not. And 2), you can have many email accounts, and at the same time, you can tell who is the originator of the emails. It's real simple. Just give an email account out to someone,, and never use it for anything else,,, and wait and see,,,, and you'll see who is either sending you the emails and (or) who passed out your email account.About no#4. There are robots/bots/spiders/ and other software that goes to web sites just to look for email addresses. If you have forms and such on your web site, they will find them and spam you. The way around that is to have either scripts to mask your email address, or you can can the emails sent to alias email addresses, or you can setup the forms to make sure a HUMAN has filled it out, and NOT a robotic system. This is a versatile method, and I'd have to explain this part in another post.About no#5. People can put tracking codes in emails that are invisible and you'll never know it. Since they do such things, you don't want them tracking you all the way back to your computer at your home or such, using Outlook Express. Check your email online, from a FREE email account. You can check your email from Outlook Express and if you're using your isp's email account setup for you,,, the person who sent you the email can identify you and they will know who your REAL isp is. Again, this is something I'd have to discuss in another thread/post.About no#6. If you apply filters to your emails,,, meaning, if a person isn't on your list to email you,,, then their email WON'T get delivered to you. You should try it. The methods I've mentioned so far, I now only get about 10 -30 spam emails about every 7 months or so.About no#7. Your personal information is linked into that email setup within your POP MAIL account if you're using your isp's information they gave you.. and everytime you use your browser to surf (mainly IE), you're exposing your information, and then it's real easy to spam you from that point. As a matter of fact, that's how many people are being spammed AND tracked as they surf online. DELETE all of your email setting in your browser(s) and stop using the email account your isp gave to you. You're going to keep getting junk mail.Hopefully this is a start for you.... It took me years to figure out my junk mail problems, and now I have emails that go for months at a time, and a few of them years at a time, and my spam is literally gone. I have busin... Read more

Hi, I'm trying to help my dad fixing his computer, in his work it is important to have the e-mail that he has because of all that has his address, the problem is that he get so much spam that he is turning nuts

can anybody help how to get writ of them.

A:Spam In E-mail

Having a more or less "public" E-mail address can result in a lot of spam that must be deleted on a daily basis, especially if you use a business address for other than business communications, which I suspect is the case with your dad's address.
Many E-mail providers will filtre some of them for you that they can readily identify, as well as allow you to manually identify uncaught messages as Spam; help him understand how to use both features.

If it is impossible for him to change his address for business reasons, then encourage him to set up several OTHER E-mail addresses to use for trusted friends/family, and for filling out internet information (e.g., memberships or registrations); the second of these can be "thrown away and replaced" if they become over-spammed.

Quite frankly, if the 7000 per quarter number is correct, it is probably worth his time and effort to change his business E-mail address, get a couple of additional throw-away accounts, and save the time and effort he is expending on SPAM deletions.

Regards,
John

Recently, I've been getting spam with a date into the future, anywhere from 1 day to 1 month. Is there anyway I can set my e-mail account to thwart this? Merci.

A:E-mail Spam

There is no built in spam tool in Windows. You can check with your ISP as a lot of them offer a spam filter for free.
I am sure there are free 3rd party spam blockers out there but I don't know enough about any of them to recommend one. Maybe someone can.

Most likely you were SpoofedNot too bad and will go away. Run this then change your Email password.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Important!! When you save the mbam-setup file, rename it to something random (such as 123abc.exe) before beginning the download.Malwarebytes may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet and double-click on the renamed file to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.Malwarebytes will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button and continue. If you cannot update Malwarebytes or use the Internet to download any files to the infected computer, manually update the database by following the instructions in FAQ Section A: 4. Issues.Under the Scanner tab, make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.Click on the Scan button. When finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box, then click the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked and then click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows the database version and your operating system.Exit Malwarebytes when done.Note: If Malwarebytes encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally will prevent Malwarebytes from removing all the malware.-- Some types of malware will target Malwarebytes and other security tools to keep them from running properly. If that's the case, go to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes Anti-Malware folder > Tools > click on Malwarebytes Chameleon and follow the onscreen instructions. The Chameleon folder can be accessed by opening the program folder for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (normally C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware or C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware).

Hello

I am receiving more than 100 junk mail per week since my email address has been used for 13 years. Since 2002.

I was too ignorant and gave out the address easily when I was younger.

I really getting sick of the junk mail because sometimes non-junk and important mails mixed to them

What is the solution?

Change a new email address?? One address for the trusted and one address for the untrusted ?
Letting all mails forwarded to a new address, using both address, slowly informing trusted parties the new address??

Any ideas?

A:any way to get rid of spam mail??

As on another post use gmail and give out different email to each thing so if your email was [email protected] you can add a +and any thing else and it will get through but then you can filter it simply so you could have [email protected] or [email protected]

There are certain Hotmail e-mail addresses, which I always want in my inbox always going to my junk mail folder instead.

How do I make sure the the e-mail addresses which I want in my inbox instead of junk mail folder go where it suppose to go ?

So when people send from those e-mail addresses go into inbox and not junk mail folder.

Thanks

I am often asked to help friends with their computer problems. Lately I have had a couple of requests for help from people whose computers have been (apparently) originating spam e-mails. In every case, they have been AOL e-mail users. I have not been able to identify any sort of virus on the owners' machines, using several competent scan tools.

I realize that his isn't particularly surprising, but I wondered if there is something currently loose in the wild that is specifically targeting AOL mail accounts?

I don't know how much relevance this question has here, but hopefully, someone can shed some light. When I receive spam emails and look a the "message source" in Outlook Express, there are words embedded between html screen statements. I've always wondered where they come from because they seem to be random. If anyone out there knows, please share the information.

Thank You

I tried deleting a particular spam-email, but to no avail. It says "technical error - please try again later. Error 14."

But there's something fishy going on here because I can see the "spamfolder is empty"-screen for a second before the error-message pops up.

What to do? I have Win 10 and Yahoomail.

A:There's a spam mail I can't delete

Someone I know is having trouble with Yahoo mail for a month. He runs Windows 7 but to delete things, he has to set Yahoo mail to Basic then he is able to delete messages.

I use star addressing which means each website I login into gets its own e-mail so I am able to track where my e-mail comes from. This morning I received spam in my inbox for the Windows Central site? Does Windows Central, or its vendors, give my information to others so they can spam me?

I have been receiving 6-8 identical emails per day for the last month or so supposedly from a friend in my address book. The message has no subjest, but only the long list of recipients and a link 'www.tabletsrxmedicine.net'. I have temporarily blocked my friend's address so the messages all go to my spam folder. Is there some way to prevent receiving them at all? Thanks.

A:Yahoo Mail Spam

Hello,

When you open email, at the bottom of the email there are mostly a option-link that says
unsuscribe from receiving emails in future
When you click that link it opens a blank page asking you for your email
Type your email in the field and it's done
You will not receiving email from that sender anymore
It helped me, hope it will help you...

Max

I am running Windows XP and for about 3-4 weeks now my incoming e-mails are being sent to my spam folder. I have not changed any of the settings so I don't know why this is happening. I have run Malwarebytes and SuperAnti Spyware and McAfee Security to clean up anything I might have, (ran each about 5 times) Have even gotten into habit of running them every morning (always finds something & I remove) but this has not helped. I have defraged, erased history, done disk clean up. I am using Mozilla/Firefox and do not use Outlook Express, use my cable company e-mail.

You help will be appreciated.

I learned today that last night my yahoo! email account sent a link to everybody in my address book as well as deleting about half of my sent folder.

I've changed my yahoo! password, but I have no idea if this means I have an infection or mal/adware (avast picked up nothing) or if this is something wrong on yahoo's end.

Am I supposed to run MBAM?

Thanks
Tim

A:yahoo! mail sent out spam

Hello, good you've changed the passwords.Let's do this next.I suspect it has entered your router.Next you must reset the router to its default configuration. This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds). If you don’t know the router's default password, you can look it up HERE.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.Troubleshoot Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

A:E-mail spam program?

Be sure to disable Spybot's Teatimer function if you use itSome types of malware will disable Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it first.Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file file and rename it to mysetup.exe.Double-click on mysetup.exe to start the installation. If that did not work, then try renaming and changing the file extension. click this link if you do not see the file extensionRight-click on the mbam-setup.exe file, rename it to mysetup and change the .exe extension to .scr, .com, .pif, or .bat.Then double-click on mysetup.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to begin installation. If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files.Right-click on mbam.exe, rename it to myscan.exe.Double-click on myscan.exe to launch the program. If that did not work, then try renaming and change the .exe extension in the same way as noted above.Double-click on myscan.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to launch the program. If using Windows Vista, refer to How to Change a File Extension in Windows Vista.Be sure to update MBAM through the program's interface (preferable method) or manually download the definition updates and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Then perform a Quick Scan in normal mode and check all items found for removal. Don't forgot to reboot afterwards. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. When done, click the Logs tab and copy/paste the contents of the report in your next reply.Note: MBAM uses Inno Setup instead of the Windows Installer Service to install the program. If installation fails in normal mode, try installing in safe mode. Doing this is usually not advised as MBAM is designed to be at full power when running in normal mode and loses some effectiveness for detection & removal when used in safe mode. For optimal removal, normal mode is recommended so it does not limit the abilities of MBAM. Therefore, after completing a scan it is recommended to uninstall MBAM, then reinstall it in normal mode and perform another Quick Scan.------------------------------------The process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free version and save it to your desktop.NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. Win 2K Pro system; have firewall active and other security measures in place, including Ad-Aware (which is wonderful). My problem is the "unwanted e-mail...Spam..." that I receive addressed to my e-mail account @AOL. I would wager to say that my e-mail address is "captured" when I visit certain websites, though I surf with Internet Explorer 6.0. Is there a method to keep my e-mail address from being "captured" when I surf? Thank you, [email protected]

A:Unwanted E mail (spam)

Hiya

Well, it may not get your actual full email address but surfing with Java can give out very personal stuff. Going to the following site will give out your SMTP address, as well as other stuff.

In fact, this site is just interesting to see what you actually leak out all the time

What first alerted me to the problem was that I had all these mailer-daemon messages in my inbox about of them Some were from about this morning others were from about tonight Turns out I had been sending to my entire address book everyone I ve sent an e-mail to--I never clean it out spam links A lot of them were coming back Spam E-Mail Virus because of outdated e-mail addresses Some I remembered having sent to before others not Anyway I checked and there was nothing in my outbox I deleted all my contacts and changed my password but I got a handful more returned E-Mail Spam Virus e-mail errors about twenty minutes later So I went to my school e-mail that I had sent to from my personal account in the past and there were two spam messages in there from my personal account This happened to my parents same computer twice a few months back but this is the first time it s affected my account We do get malware on occasion but I think it might be from when I would try to watch streaming TV shows on some shady sites I ve tried to stay away from E-Mail Spam Virus those and it tends to work I m honestly considering just deleting my AOL account yes we still use AOL and going over to Gmail or something Anyway I did a quick scan with Malware Bytes which I generally use Nothing Help please

A:E-Mail Spam Virus

Welcome aboard Anyway, I checked, and there was nothing in my outboxMost likely it's not you sending those emails, but someone, whose computer is infected and who has your email address in their address book.In any case, we can run some checks...Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop. * Double-click SecurityCheck.exe * Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box. * A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.=============================================================================Please download MiniToolBox and run it.Checkmark following boxes:Report IE Proxy SettingsReport FF Proxy SettingsList content of HostsList IP configurationList last 10 Event Viewer logList Users, Partitions and Memory sizeClick Go and post the result.=============================================================================Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. * Post the log back here.Be sure to restart the computer. The log can also be found here:C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txtOr at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt=============================================================================Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.
GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again. If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

Hello again... I have been receiving, in bunches of 5 or so, "Delivery Status Notifications" over the past couple months. I thought it was just some site phishing and have always deleted these e-mails.

But there is one supervisor at work who has received a couple e-mails from me with attached links. I didn't send these and there are no records of these in my sent or outbox. He is not even in my address book or contacts list.

Last night my wife received an e-mail from me that I didn't send. No record in my sent folder. Message had a link attached..

It said, "Hello, Just wanted to say hello and wish you a good day. By the way, have you see that "http guvylumo rayorrock com / aecuic"

I have scanned with AVG Internet Security 2016 and also with Malware bytes and both found nothing.

Any ideas on what my next steps should be ?

Thank you

My Yahoo account sent out spam from my email account to all in my address book.

Scanned with AVG anti-virus and Malwarebytes and nothing came up. Also have Spyware Blaster installed as well.

Anybody else have this problem and if not, what can I do to get rid of it? Or was this just a one-time glitch?

Windows 7 machine BTW.

This may not directly answer your question, but I have found that the best method to filtre junk E-mail is at the E-mail provider's server, many of whom have a filtering system based on data from all E-mail users. Be sure you have the provider's filtre turned on; if you do not have that functionality, find a E-mail provider that does (Yahoo or Google, for example).
A second trick of the trade is to have one E-mail address that you give out to family and trusted friends and colleagues, and several other "throw away" addresses (Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) that you can provide to others or for registering dubious software, etc.. As the latter begin to fill up with crudmail, you can easily delete the account and start another.

I hope this helps a little,
Regards,
John

i was sure then that my pc is infected, added to this symptom a very slow performance in browsing using chrome and firefox..
i did a scan with Malwarebytes and spyBot search&destroy, both turned out with some infections and were cleaned,i changed my email password. but i'm afraid that i might be still infected.
i would really appreciate any type of assistance regarding that matter..
thanks

Welcome to TSF.

I'm K27 and I am currently reviewing your log.

Please DO NOT run any scans/tools/fixes on your own as this will conflict with the tools we are going to use.

Please Print or Save to Notepad all instructions and please follow them carefully and if there's something you don't understand or that will not work please let me know and we will go through it together.

Please DO NOT use this system for anything apart from visiting this forum and other sites I direct you too, as this will only make the cleanup process all the more difficult.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed. This is to free up my time so as to continue to help others. If you need longer to reply, then that is fine, but please to let me know.

Using a Known Clean Computer, please change the hotmail password to something of at least eight charterers with a mixture of upper and lower case nutters and a few numbers.

What is your recommended action when your hotmail is sending spam mail to everyone?
i heard Skype associating hotmail can be one at fault, probably some bot.
(closing hotmail account might not work either)

Sounds like 4 tracking cookies were at fault,
discovered after trying another antispyware other than Malwarebytes.
(what i find weird is: how could these tracking cookies not be removed by ccleaner)

A:Hotmail sending spam mail

I doubt that tracking cookies were to blame.

CCleaner will leave cookies that are associated with your Favorites/Bookmarks if you tell it to.

If the SPAM was sent to those that you have listed in your Hotmail account contacts, then it sounds like someone or something gained access to that account. One solution might be to change your password and not keep contacts in the account. Keep contacts in a separate document - then copy/paste as needed. I know that is not convenient, but it has worked for some users that I support. (They came up with the idea. I did not suggest it to them. It has worked for them.)

The more e-mails people forward around, the greater the chances are that their e-mail address will be harvested. (But that does not give the bad guys your list of ALL contacts - unless you forwarded something to ALL contacts.) Sometimes you will see a list of e-mail addresses in the body of the forwarded e-mail. Some e-mail forwards bounce around for years. If the e-mail passes thru a compromised e-mail server, then those e-mail addresses can get harvested. SPAM can be sent using any/all of those harvested e-mail addresses as the fake/spoofed sender address.

You might want to create a post in the security sub-forum and let them help you scan your computer.

I have a Yahoo mail acct that is receiving continuous spam. It properly goes to the spam folder, but I would like to block address.

Protecting Yourself From Spam: Blocking Email Addresses | Yahoo Help

The above is directions from Yahoo on how to block spam. Problem is the spam email does not have an address that I can locate. It only has the body of the message (advertising).

Any ideas on how this spam address can be blocked ? Thanks !

A:Block Spam in Yahoo Mail

When I use to use Yahoo mail client. I had the same problems. Never did find a fix. Try using a differ mail client. Keep Temporary Internet files and cookies deleted. Run frequent virus scans. Also, use Malwarebytes, and CCleaner. Sometimes, while browsing you'll pickup unwanted downloads. Some of this stuff works it's way into email as spam. Good browsing habits are key. Social Networks, such as, Facebook, My space, and Twitter; Are great places to get infected with all kinds of stuff. Like email spam!

Having an issue where my e-mail is being used to send spam. I changed my password twice but it still continues, the only time it stops is when the outbox limit is reached and a CAPTCHA shows. Of course, when I answer it to get into my inbox it all starts again, so I can assume this is a bot of some sort.

I have run malware scans on both my main PC and the family laptop but both came back clean, even when I booted in SafeMode and scanned, both got the all clear.

What in the world is going on? Please help me out.

Thank you.

Spam Killer was unable to connect to the default network. Please check Windows Network settings in your computer. The corresponding e-mail is not configured for filtering.
I've tried everything I can think of to correct this with no results at all working for me.
Should I just uninstall the Spam Killer 6.0 and reinstall it? Could it be this simple to do?
Thanks for any help

Over the last month I have been getting a huge number of mail failure messages which I presume to be spam so delete without opening.By huge I mean 20-30 per day. I send out c.3-4 e-mails per week!If I hover over the sender or check the properties there is often a foreign address so I am sure that they are not from people I know.Is this becoming a common method of spamming or have I picked up a nasty that is trying to send mail anywhere and everywhere? I have noted that it's not just when my PC is switched on though, I can check my mail through my ISP remotely and regularly delete a few before they get downloaded at home.I am using XP Home and Incredimail, AVG antivirus (free) updated daily, and I scan the PC with Spybot and Adaware on a weekly basis.Has anyone has come across this?

A:Mail Failures - Is It Spam Or Have I Caught Something

It may simply be spam. The first thing a spammer has to do is get you to OPEN the email, so they put subject lines in that will entice you, such as "I love you", or they even make it look like the email is a response to an email you sent (which you never actually sent) by putting a "re:" in front of some enticing line. Could be something like 're: your check' or 're: that information you requested'.And another trick is to get you to open your emails is to make it look like it a a failure letter from your ISP. In other words when you actually send an email and it gets bounced back because of a wrong email addy or somthing, then your ISP will send you a 'failure' notice. Spammers now often make thier spam emails look like failure letters so that you will open them and read them, perhaps even click on the attachment.Just a word to the wise: Never click on an attachment you weren't expecting.Sometimes attachments will have names like mydog.jpg which sounds innocent enough, a picture of a dog, right? But upon closer inspection you may see something likemydog.jpg ..................... .exeIt is actually an .exe file, meaning it is a program, it simply has a lot of spaces in it's title.

A:Spam E-mail (mime Format)?

Hi JJroger,It's near impossible to set rules in OE for this type of Spam because the subject and sender are always different. One important thing to remember is, Do Not Open Theses E-mails.The only thing you can do at this point is change your e-mail address.Create two e-mail accounts, one for friends and family and one that is "disposable" for ordering things online or signing up for anything online. If you start getting Spam in your disposable e-mail account, it's easy to change.

Hi and welcome,
What you are talking about is a new spamming attack. Here is some info on it
http://computerworld.com/action/arti...&intsrc=kc_top
We can't think of a way to block these without blocking legit pdf files where I work, so we are resigned at this time to delete them when they come through. The good thing is that there will be a high phase for awhile, then eventually it will trickle down in volume, as all the other spamming methods have done.

I seem to have had a surge of spam. Many supposedly from "techdaily at (various domains)" Any others have this?

Leads me to the question:

Whats the specific difference between blocking the sender vs blocking the senders domain? Which is more effective?

Email addresses are of the form [email protected] where the full address is the "sender" and the part after the @ sign is the domain. So if you were to block the domain of a sender with a gmail address you would be blocking email from everyone with a gmail address. The domain method is much more effective but should be used with caution.

All of a sudden my emails are getting marked SPAM in the topic space. How can I stop this? Most of the time it isn't spam at all.

I often write myself emails to remind myself about things and they come back marked SPAM and all it was was a reminder to take out the garbage or something.

Is there a way to stop it. It must have come from an update because I never set anything to do that.

What do I do? Who do I report this to? I immediately DELETED it after taking the screenshot....Is there any way I can track this back to who, or more likely WHAT sent it to me? Funny thing is, I didn't even look at the name on the header To: maryann [email protected] hoo.com (They didn't even get the GENDER correct) and nearly OPENED the attachment because I've gotten 3 packages from UPS in the last week or so and am expecting one more.Be VERY careful out there, Kiddies!!

Interesting how it said the attachment wasn't a virus. It must be malware of some sort. Scary..

Unfortunately, there is only one solution. You must get a new email address. In addition, go to Yahoo, or something similar and open a junk mail account. If you ever have to put your addy online, to register, or get something free, give the junk mail account. Give your real account only to those that you really know and to major companines, in order to get bills, buy airline tickets etc. That is what I have done several years ago and no spam problems. But, every day in my junk mail there are at least a dozen spam emails.

Hi: I rec'd an email 2days ago that was identified as spam. Now I'm unable to send or rec without the error coming up. My server is POP and sending is SMTP and it says Error550 from charter.net.
I cannot even get my mail thru charter and unable to report the spam problem. please advise.
My computer is new, I'm running the Vista, don't know nothing about it.

A:Can't send or rec on Microsoft Mail due to Spam error

Error 550 suggests that the settings in your email servers are incorrect, that you are attempting to connect to your ISP mailbox (charter.net?) while not connecting through their system.

In other words its an error that suggests you are connecting to an internet service provider while attempting to send/receive email from an entirely different one.

It's called "relaying" and is prohibited, it returns error 550.

Check your smtp and pop3 server settings in your email program. Make sure they are the same as charter.net require.

I am desperate to find a solution to my problem with Windows Live Mail: I am getting a lot of spam which appears to come from my own address and I can't set this to go to the junk mail folder, because some of them might really come from me.

On my old computer where I had Outlook, I dealt with this by buying Cloudmark?s spam filter program, which could deal with this, and only junked spam messages, not genuine ones coming from my address. But now I find I can't use Cloudmark with Windows Live Mail, as the Windows junk mail filter gets there before Cloudmark does.

I've tried disabling the Windows junk mail feature but there is no way to do this.

Can anyone help me, please?
