Preferred Solution: FireFox 4

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Bold or Italic text or text in a different font

If you see bold or italic text or text in a strange or wrong font then a possible cause is a missing or corrupted font that causes Firefox to switch to another font. In such cases you can first try to reinstall core fonts like Arial, Tahoma, Times New Roman, Verdana.

On Windows:
Open Control Panel > Fonts
Choose > File > Install new Font
Browse to the "C:\windows\fonts" folder
Select the font(s) that you want to refresh
Click Install to install and refresh all selected fonts

Hello! Welcome to BleepingComputer Forums!
My name is Georgi and and I will be helping you with your computer problems.
Before we begin, please note the following:
I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
The logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me.
Stay with the topic until I tell you that your system is clean. Missing symptoms does not mean that everything is okay.
Instructions that I give are for your system only!
Please do not run any tools until requested ! The reason for this is so I know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.
Please perform all steps in the order received. If you can't understand something don't hesitate to ask.
Again I would like to remind you to make no further changes to your computer unless I direct you to do so. I will not help you if you do not follow my instructions.

Please download the latest version of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop. Don't kill any malicious processes at your own.Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Make sure that Addition.txt is checked before you press the Scan button.
Press Scan button.
It will make 2 logs (FRST.txt and Addition.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste them to your reply.

Regards,
Georgi

Hello and welcome to the forums! My secret agent name on the forums is SweetTech (you can call me ST for short), it's a pleasure to meet you. I am very sorry for the delay in responding, but as you can see we are at the moment being flooded with logs which, when paired with the never-ending shortage of helpers, resulted in the delayed responding to your thread.I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed. If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, all tools need to be started by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator!
Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)
Because of this, you must reply within three days failure to reply will result in the topic being closed!
Please do not PM me directly for help. If you have any questions, post them in this topic.
Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system.
Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data. Firefox has been freezing up on me, and when I close it down, I get a bluescreen error. It also happens a lot of the time when I close Firefox down normally. This was happening before I updated to the latest version of FF. I am running Windows XP, and have recently started using ZoneAlarm and Avast on my system.

A:Firefox closes = bluescreen error? (Moved for the mozilla/Firefox Forum)

Hi,

Can you give us the error in full that you are getting. Also, I would check and make sure that ZoneAlarm and Avast are allowing FF to connect to the internet.

Cheers!

A:Firefox text blurs, Windows updates won't update, firefox restarts my pc.etc

If it does come to reloading the system you can borrow a copy of Vista from friend, unfortunately MS does not supply any ISO's on Digital River.  One very important thing you must use the same version of Vista, also look over the computers box for Microsoft COA sticker with the serial number on it you must have that.  Get the info ahead of time, right my computer it will show your version. It is possible that you may not have to go through that if the machine has a recovery partition, you would need to look on the makers site.

Now all that being said I feel you do in fact have a bug and need some help from the guys up here!

Have means of backing up your data available.____________________________________________________Rootkit UnHooker (RkU)Please download Rootkit Unhooker from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.Link 1 (.exe file)Link 2 (zipped file)Link 3 (.rar file)In order to use this tool if you downloaded from either of the second two links, you will need to extract the RKUnhookerLE.exe file using a program capable of extracing ZIP and RAR compressed files. A:Firefox crashing (plugin container for firefox has stopped working)

Go to Index page ? mozillaZine Forums ; on the right-side of the screen, in the search box for Boards, enter "plugin container crashes" (without the quotation marks) and read some of the threads, which may lead you to the solution.

My quick look at a few of those threads indicated that hardware acceleration may be the culprit; if you need help with that, do another search for that subject.

There was an amusing incident on mozillaZine recently concerning hardware acceleration: One person posted a vituperative message blaming the moderators for frequently suggesting turning off hardware acceleration on the grounds that doing that had never helped a single person.

The very next thread I read was from a person thanking the moderators: He had been told to try turning off hardware acceleration, he did so, and his problem was solved.

Firefox and security certificates (3 web pages).

Secure data transmission on the internet relies on encryption and security certificates. Mozilla has revised the way Firefox 3 handles certificates, but not always for the better. A few modifications will sort things out – and give you more security.

I was having problems with too high physical memory usage(highest was 73%) causing my PC to respond slower even during winexplore. I started uninstalling unnecessary programs and disabling unnecessary processes, when I noticed that plugin-container.exe is taking up 23,xxx KB memory while firefox takes up 400,xxxKB. Is this normal? Is there any way I can tone Firefox down to further lessen my PC's physical memory usage? As of now, it's down to 36%.

I usually run either Fraps, Skyrim, or Azureus Vuze while using Firefox. Current active plugins for Firefox are:
Quicktime plugin
Java Platform
Java Deployment toolkit
Shockwave Flash

A:Plugin container for firefox and firefox eating up memory

Unless you're very limited in ram, its nothing to worry about. I've stressed FF to eat up to 4GB or ram and another 4 for the Plugin Container.

I'm using mac OS 10.5. I am trying to reinstall a clean version of firefox which is not a problem but I can't figure out how to get my old bookmarks back in. The browser has a function to import bookmarks from Safari, Internet Explorer and Opera but not previous bookmarks from firefox. I've tried to replace the bookmarks.html file in the application support folder, but it doesn't work. Does anyone know how to doe this?

A:reinstalling firefox and importing previous firefox bookmarks

I don't know the differences between firefox for windows and mac, but in windows you would click on bookmarks - then click on organize bookmarks, you can import your html file there.

I don't know if my problem is Firefox or WordPress but I thought I'd try here first.
I use WordPress to publish articles and usually copy and paste from the finished article in the Articles forum to WordPress but since I reinstalled Win 7 this no longer works as paste is no longer an option when I right click in WordPress, or at least in the particular part that I need it to. I can, however, do it in Internet Explorer, but images aren't copied over, which they used to be. I've tried all the usual things like clearing the cache, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A:Is this Win 7 or Firefox at fault? Moved from Mozilla/Firefox browsers

Hi,
I am using Win-7 too but I haven't used IE. So my suggestion is to, try another browser for the same purpose and then see the effects (I feel firefox is well suited for the purpose). If you are getting same problems then, you are missing with some features of Win-7 otherwise, it is the website issue.

A:How do I open a Firefox bookmarks file (.json) without using Firefox?

Your bookmarks and other preferences are stored in a separate and independent location/file on your disk, so you should be able to delete and reinstall Ff without needing to do a special save for them. Well when i get on firefox and IE7 its comes up saying firefox.exe incounters problems we need to close this, same with IE7 i cannot get on any site to i got browse the net, and also it happens to a pinball game, in the games on all programs.

When i just click on the Pinball game, it open then closes.
Is there a way to stop this from happening?
I am not sure if this is Malware or a threat to the computer, but maybe you guys here may know if it is or not.

Hi guys, I wasn't sure where to post this. Intermittently (every 2-3 days) when I start up my computer I constantly get a pop up stating that Firefox has stopped responding. The trouble is I don't even have Firefox installed. As a diagnostic step I downloaded and installed Firefox then used Revo Uninstaller to wipe the machine clean of Firefox. I've ensured all Firefox folders are deleted as well.

I've run a scan using Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 and Malwarebytes but no joy in finding anything at all threat related. Unfortunately as I type this it has stopped so I cannot get screen shots but will add these as soon as I can.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
H

Hi!

I've been using Firefox Portable from my flashdrive for a long time, adding a lot of skins, addons, passwords and sertificates. Is it posible to transfer all this information to a normal Firefox instalation? I wanted to copy some directories, but it seems like the directory structure is somewhat diferent on a normal instalation than my portable version.
Btw, I'm using firefox 3.

Thanks

Hi Guys

I am new to this forum and have limited knowledge of computers.
I was using Firefox version 2 and was very happy until I was requested to download version 3. Now I seem to have endless crashes and keep getting told Firefox has a problem & needs to close. Up to 5 x a day.

This is very frustrating.
This happens with avg, facebook ,all internet functions.

I have spybot running and avg and says there are no problems.

We had a power failure earlier yesterday and when I switched back on Microsoft suggested I check the C drive as there was a problem -but that seems to have sorted itself out.-probably due to not closing down properly.

So can you help me with detailed instructions on how to fix forefox or totally remove it and install from the beginning or is there major problems with that version 3 .1 ?

Thanks
Carol

About that part where you google things and everything appears to be harmful, it is part of the google search engine now. I am also having it.

It can't be disabled and the only way is to copy and paste the link directly into the URL of the browser for now

i have 2 profiles, one on firefox version 24 for a few reasons, download window, old school search bar, faster
another profile is latest version of firefox for newer viewing compatibility, which I sometimes use chrome too if both firefox doesn't work.

issue is, on firefox 24, its faster compared to latest versions of firefox (even on clean profile) and to reproduce issue is rather simple. don't maximize window and drag firefox window around the screen and watch CPU usage spikes up.

for firefox 24 the usage doesnt go up at all but on latest versions of firefox (pretty much anything after ffox 26) if drag the window around for even 5sec CPU usage will spike like crazy, like its trying to render graphic or something with CPU. for both versions I have hardware acceleration disabled already so I don't think its that.

anyone know whats going on?

Usually I use either of two computers, one with Windows XP and another Windows Vista. The Vista one has Firefox 5.01, and I want to keep it in case Java is incompatible with Firefox Version 6, and I hope to install Firefox Version 6.0 separately and still keep Firefox Version 5.01. Does this seem reasonable?

How can I also find out if Java which is on the Vista machine is compatible with Version 6 of Firefox BEFORE downloading & installing Firefox v6?

This Vista machine: Windows Vista Home Premium (s.p. 1 or 2, can't remember, cannot find where this information), Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 5.01, Java Platform Standard Edition 6 (Version 1.6.0 (build 1.6.0_03-b05) copyright 2007 Sun Microsystems).

A:keep Firefox 5.01 and also install Firefox 6 separately?

Hi cafejose,I believe it's possible to run 2 versions of Firefox on the same system if one of them is a portable version. Mozilla Firefox 6 Portable Edition.Though as far as I know, the problem with FF6 and Java is only with the Java Console Plug-in. This shouldn't affect the average user though and Java should work just fine in FF6. More importantly FF6 contains security fixes, so you should update soon for that reason alone. It looks like you may also be running a very old version of Java. Please visit THIS SITE to verify you have the latest version installed. The latest secure Version is jre-6 Update 27. Be sure to uninstall all old versions of Java before installing the latest. It is especially important for your systems security to keep Apps such as Java, Flash and PDF viewers up to date, as outdated versions of these Apps are among the most popular vectors of attack for malware.A good way to keep informed if you have the latest updates for these and other popular Apps, as well as the latest MS security updates installed, is to use Secunia's Online Software Inspector.

A:Firefox and Youtube bugs, or is it just Firefox?

As for the Youtube settings, try this:

1. In Firefox, go to Options
2. Click on the Privacy tab at the top
3. In the History Context, click on Exceptions
4. In the Allow option type this exactly:

youtube.com

5. Click Allow
6. Do the same for this:

google.com

7. Click Allow

Go to Youtube and see if your problem is rectified.

According to Mozilla s current plans the next major release of its open source browser will be labeled Firefox While the moniker is bound not to be a real surprise for quite a consistent number of Mozilla watchers the fact of the matter is that the browser vendor has not officially announced that Firefox would be the successor of Firefox At one point Mozilla was planning two upgrades to Firefox namely versions and Firefox Major Firefox the Version 4.0, of Next Firefox was delivered Firefox 4.0, the Next Major Version of Firefox earlier this year and it looks like Firefox will be next As many have heard I've been working with various stakeholders in order to put together a product plan for the next version of Firefox which is looking like it will be called Firefox I'm happy to say that it's at a point where I'd like to present it to the community in order to set expectations and focus as well as in order to gather more feedback and thoughts revealed Mike Beltzner director of Firefox Full read Firefox the Next Major Version of Firefox - It s quasi-official - Softpedia

Quote:
Firefox 4 roadmap unveiled; beta expected in June

For quite some time, Mozilla has been hard at work on Firefox 4. What was initially planned to be Firefox 3.7 has officially been rolled into Firefox 3.6.4, which is currently available in beta form, featuring out-of-process plugins. Firefox 4 is expected to be an all-out overhaul and evolutionary version of the world's second most popular browser.
On beltzner.ca, an early product plan for Firefox 4 has been made public. The roadmap is not set in stone, however, the slide show gives the world an unheard of, detailed, glimpse into what will make up Mozilla's next major release. As seen in slide 27, the first beta is expected towards the end of June, with the final release coming in November. Keep in mind, this is all subject to change.

Here's some of what we can expect from Firefox 4:Speed - it will be "super-duper fast"
Power - it will support " 5 and beyond"
Empowerment - users will be allowed to fully control their browser, its data, and their web experience
Completely re-vamped user interface allowing layout customization and less chrome
Improved stability and security
Ability to install add-ons without restarting browser
Better tools for developers
64-bit support
Hardware acceleration
Multitouch support

I recently updated to Firefox 18. If I go to Windows' Control Panel and then click on "Uninstall a program", both Firefox 18 and Firefox 15 show up in the list of programs. Should I just leave it as it is, or should I uninstall Firefox 15?

By the way, I updated to Firefox 18 through Firefox's update feature, if that helps.

A:After installing Firefox 18, Firefox 15 still shows in "Uninstall"

To the best of my knowledge when you installed Firefox 18 it should of removed older versions. I have updated Firefox for years and have never had to remove the older one. If Firefox 18 works as it should I would think that removing the older one should not hurt anything.

I´m using Firefox 2 Portable on my USB flash drive. Now I´ve installed Firefox 3 RC2 in another directory. Could I copy the "data" folder from Firefox 2 over the "data" folder in the Firefox 3 directory to keep all my bookmarks, saved passwords etc.?
Or can I do this in another way?

Thanks.

A:Change from Firefox 2 to Firefox 3

Yes, go in the Data folder & copy the "Profile" folder from your FF2 to FF3.

PS. Firefox 3 Portable is now available in its final version.

Mozilla has released its latest wave of security and stability updates for the still-supported release of Firefox. March 2010 is the only month in which the company made available refreshes for no less than three flavors of its open source browser. Firefox 3.6 received its first update earlier this month, jumping past 3.6.1 straight to 3.6.2. Now it?s the turn of 3.0.19 and 3.5.9 to be delivered. Mozilla announced previously that it was aiming for a release on March 30, and it looks like the browser maker is right on the money.

A:Firefox 3.6.8 or Firefox Beta 4?

4.0 is faster but if you use add-ons, most of them may not work with 4.0 yet. I continue to use 3.6.8 for this reason, which is not that slow after all.

A:(Firefox) My Issue "Firefox is already running.........."

I've seen the same issue and closing Firefox releases the RAM it has been using, gives the program a clean start when next opened. I find it a minor hassle when downloading and viewing videos. I also normally have 2 instances of Firefox open and sometimes two or more tabs with different sites open. Usually see the issue when Task Manager reports more than 500KB in use but also involved is Adobe Flash Player, might be 2 instances running with one quite a bit larger than the other. Ending process on FF usually also ends AFP.

Q: firefox

Hi. I hope I am in the right forum for this question. I recently did the hijack log and PSKELLEY really helped me with the log and fixing the problems. Righ now we are running Norton antivirus, Norton firewal, pop-up stopper, Spybot, Ad-aware, and just installed Mozilla Firefox.

The delima: since all of these things have been put into operation, we can do very little on the internet. For example, sites like Emp3world.com, uproar.com, purdue.edu/jobs, and many, many others. Also, when I am in a site and click on a link, much of the time the link can't be followed. Am I doing something wrong, or are all of these programs just blocking a whole bunch of junk?

If anyone can inform me, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks

1 How to stop the Smilies from being animated that includes this cursor ,which is driving me crackers. In the address field for Firefox type about:config and press enter. This will bring to the config screen. In the filter type image.animation_modeDouble click on value for that configuration preference and either change it to Once so you only see the animation once or none to never see it. A:Firefox

When I C/P a address bar at the top...............there is no "go" button , so I can't get anyware. The google field is next to the address field. I can identify with your frustration there, as it's small. In fact, I just set google as my homepage and open another window when I'm searchin' a lot. Bookmarks............Is there any way to have them display in a tree, like clicking the star in IE? This rolling mess of bookmarks is the pits. Hit manage bookmarks, under the toolbar "Bookmarks" click n' drag to position things. The "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder will place your most frequently used links on the third bar down from the top. I use it for BC, other forums, Yahoo, Gmail. HJT search sites, etc. You'll get used to it. The speed of resolving pages is much quicker than IE.When you make a bookmark, you can choose where it goes. I usually have it go in the "bookmarks" folder if I don't know right then where I want it. I may go back later and move it in manage to, say a folder called "computer parts" If you create 35 folders and have them in seven sections, you can still have a dozen "loose" under bookmarks (in general) before the drop down menu goes off the page and starts to "hide" them requiring that you click on arrows to see them all.If you import all your "Favorites" from IE and don't organize them in folders, you gotta mess. Long, long drop down menu that is totally unorganized. Printer....now where did my icon go ?Can't right click it up either. Grrr I don't know. I prefer to open printer from the start menu, personallyIs there an extension like IE Spell? For spell check, I use Word, but for extensions the answer is probably, there are so many to choose fromyour Firefox & Mozilla Information bookmark folder has those quick links.

I've been using FireFox 1.8 as an alternative to IE and although i really like it , i am having a problem with it. My clan has a website and there is a program installed that allows members to see who is on the public and private servers as well as a members list section and also to see who is on TeamSpeak. Well Mozilla can see who is on TeamSpeak and nothing else. It just loads blank pages. IE has np with this at all. In Firefox i have some plugins installed ie macromedia, shockwave, etc . I'm wondering if any one has an idea as to what plug-in would work.

I had this happen with Firefox 3.6.3 on June 15. I only had about 6-7 tabs open on it but it was acting very sluggish in performance just scrolling through web pages.

Then yesterday, twice the Firefox process was maxing out one of my cores at 100% with only 6-7 tabs open. I rebooted and eventually it came back again. Given, I have a quad core so the rest of my system was fine but Firefox had slowed to a crawl.

So since yesterday evening I have switched to Opera 10.60. I gotta say that I am quite impressed with it.

I have Firefox 3.03. I tend to go crazy with add-ons, etc. I have both Java No-Script and CS Lite. They have different functions, but is this overkill? Tends to make surfing a bit slower.

I noticed that at the add-on site, almost all the reviews are highly rated. I have never seen a negative one.

I have a lot of things like Fast Dial, which are convenient, but are they safe? I worry about increased exposure from some of my add-ons; will have to go back to the Safe Internet Browsing Forums tutorial; looked at it yesterday.

Which ones do you like, and which ones do you have concerns about? I would like to hear from you all. Thanks.

A:Firefox add-ons, etc.

I use NoScript, AdBlock+, NewsFox, LeetKey and GMail Notifier on my laptop.
On the desktop box I have AdBlock+, User Agent Switcher, and Exploit-Me.
The last one is not for normal users and I don't recommend using it unless
you know what it does, have permission to test the security of a server, or
enjoy the idea of a cell mate named "Big Bubba" making you his wife.

I always Google an add-on to see what other people have to say. Or in the case
of the NewsFox add-on I just emailed the author(s) with my questions.

Q: FireFox

i currently use mozillla as my main browser. is there a good reason why i should change to FireFox? Do they perform/load the same? are they the same (more or less)? etc

A:FireFox

I used to use Mozilla too. Somewhere along the line I switched to firefox... I guess Mozilla 1.6 is a bit slower than FF, but if you're on a fast enough system, I really don't think it would be a noticeable difference.

If you do want to try Firefox, it'll be pretty easy to set up- after installation, it'll let you import all your settings from IE or Mozilla 1.6.

In terms of security, I'd say they're probably about the same- they beat the stuffing out of internet explorer.

Please read this post and this post of mine before you post a reply Why has Firefox become so bad It's becoming more and more bloated and less like what it was intended to be fast and functional when it was first released to compete with IE It takes up insane amounts of ram memory It also crashes so easily whenever the flash plugin crashes Compare it to another browser like Chrome and the consumption and stability differences are so vast so Why bad? Firefox become has even though Chrome was created after Firefox Chrome consumes as much memory doesn't lag at all even when many tabs are open and doesn't crash at all even if its flash plugin crashes I hate to use Chrome over Firefox but it's proving to be superior to Firefox in the most important areas of memory consumption lag speed and stability Chrome has major problems ensuring that downloads do not become corrupted which is a nail to its heart Firefox please take care of the important core issues before fiddling around with issues concerning user-created plugin

Which version do you have installed on your computers? My point is not security in this case. I prefer stabilty and speed.

Thanks in advance.

Firefox is rerouting requests to odd sites such as surveys.cnet.com; IE Google not working properly. Everything is slowed down. I have run adaware, superantispyware, spyware doctor with no luck. Webroot only detects 41 advertising cookies, low risk. My hijack-this logfile is attached, as well as dds files. Can you please help?I went ahead and ran combofix, which appears to have repaired my problems. I would still love to know what I had, so I know what to look for in the future. Log is loaded. Also, which spyware servicedo you recommend I keep running all the time?

Q: Firefox

I am running Windows 2000 Pro and Internet Explorer but with all the problems trying to keep my computer clean I thought I would like to install Mozell Firefox. Can I have both browsers installed at the same time or would this cause a conflict? Thanks
