Preferred Solution: In Windows Live Mail, how do I reset the default font and font size?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Someone was requesting information on how to change the font size on Windows Live Mail permanently: I was also having the same problem but have solved mine. I am using Windows 7. On the Windows Live Mail page BEFORE you go to compose a new e-mail you will see in the top right hand corner a paint brush and next to it a little box. If you click on this box it has menu's click on options and then on compose. there you can change your font style and size. Hope this is of help.

I set-up Windows Live Mail from a help of this site, to which I truly feel grateful.

Now, I find a size of Font is too large,.... about '14' to '16' that I want to correct to normal font sizse, '12.'

My question is;
How to change from '14' or '16' to normal font size,12?'

Thanks for your help in advance.

I hate that the menu bar has been replaced by ribbons in Windows Live Mail. The only way I know how to change the font size of the messages in my Inbox home screen is to go to Tools > Options, which I cannot do because I don't know how to access the Tools menu without a menu bar. Please tell me how to view/change my options with this new ribbons system. Thanks so much.

Hi Tracy,

Click the nameless blue button on the left hand side of the ribbon.
Click Options.
Click Mail...
Activate the Compose tab.
Click Font Settings... to the right of Mail.
You can set the default font, font style, font size and font color here.
Click OK twice.

Win 7/64. Whenever I read an incoming e-mail, the font size I see is the size shown in the font size window.
However, when I try to compose, forward or reply/reply all, the font that shows up on the screen is so tiny that it barely readable. When I'm replying, even the original e-mail text is tiny. This just started happening the last couple of days.
Any idea of how to fix it??

P.S. Even though my messages go out with tiny text, when I send one to myself, I receive it with normal size text, and nobody I send to has complained that they're getting tiny text.

I am trying to help friend out that just migrated from Outlook Express on Windows XP to Windows Live Mail on Windows Home Premium x She has trouble reading the from and subject lines after the client marks them as read I am aware of how to change the default font settings for the compose window and it is easy to make the text bigger in the reading pane but I haven't had much luck finding any suggestions on how to adjust the size or color of the text in the message list I have already done a few things to make things easier I have decreased the resolution which makes the text a little bigger I have set the DPI setting to I also went in the Windows Color and Appearance Settings in the the control panel and increased the default font size for menus message boxes and title bar to hoping those settings might affect the fonts in WLM but no luck I can drop the resolution a little more Live message size for Windows Changing list on font Mail and color it is Changing font size and color for message list on Windows Live Mail currently at x on a monitor with a native x resolution but I am worried that if I drop the resolution too much lower that I may create more problems than I solve Are there are any other settings I am missing that would help Short of using the screen magnifier or dropping the resolution further I am not sure what else I can do to make Windows Live Mail easier to read The only other alternative I can is to find another mail client where I can adjust that font to be significantly larger I could do that but that is something I am trying to avoid since this person seems reluctant to learn anything new

I've been struggling with an issue that I hope someone here can help resolve. A few weeks ago, I suddenly started seeing this ugly font (see images below) on many webpages.

I think this issue began right around the time I installed some other fonts, but I am not sure. Initially, I figured it was a Chrome thing but have since confirmed the issue extends to IE and Firefox, leading me to believe this is a Windows issue. By the time I tried to revert the changes via System Restore, it was too late (restore only went back a few days; maybe I need to adjust settings there?).

I tried to reset the default font but Windows does not seem to respond to that. When I click "Restore to default font settings" the button greys out but nothing else happens. No dialog box and no change in the issue.

Any ideas?

A:Change default font size in Mail app

The default font size is Calibri 11. That cannot be changed.
The only change you can make is to manually change the font size on each email when you compose a message.

In other more sophisticated email programs such as Windows Live Mail, you can set default font size as well as style.

I can easily change the size and font but can't find how to set it as the new Default setting Can it be done Using Mail for Win for first time as that is what appeared for my Outlook email account I found today that when using either CC or BCC a 'Return' occurs immediately after entering an email address thereby moving the cursor to the line below requiring moving the cursor back to that original line so that another email address can be entered and again and again Never saw this before so probably hopefully a fix is coming While typing an email I touched the Caps Lock key mid-sentence and typed one capital letter in error I touched that key turning off the caps lock function and the light went off But from that point on I could only type in CAPS and Default 10 Win font Mail..How to more size?.....and change regardless of what I did I had to close email and restart it to have it return to normal Anyone else find that to be the case How to fix

What or where can he configure in Windows Mail so that the printing font size is the same as in the emails? Any comments I will pass along to him. Thanks.

My hard drive crashed last week so I had to re-install Windows although I was using Windows before and then install Windows Live Mail When I'm in WLM and reading an email the fonts are kind of weird in the sense that they are spaced much differently side by side kerning Yet when I'm writing an email everything looks fine Everywhere else on my computer internet MS Word the fonts Kerning WIndows and Mail Live Font are fine as well I tried playing around with the quot Read quot settings in WLM but nothing helped changing fonts etc Then I even restored Windows to an earlier time that didn't help either Then I quot repaired quot Live Essentials but that didn't do anything One thing I should say is WIndows Live Mail and Font Kerning that when I was re-installing Windows I copied my old fonts from Windows into the new Windows fonts folder and overrode what was there since I have extra fonts Maybe I should not have done this and just installed the new fonts But I can't imagine this is the problem since the fonts everywhere else and even in WLM when writing an email look fine As seen above the text on the left is written and everything is fine Yet when I'm reading it on the right the spacing is different and more spread out I know it may not look like it here since it's too small but believe me when I read it in point in a paragraph it looks very different And also in some emails that I read the fonts are even completely different fonts from the settings and even change to different fonts when I go back into WLM and the same email which is very strange Do you know what the problem is Will I have to re-install WLM

I don't really understand the way Live Mail handles fonts. I set Arial 10 as my standard font for sending HTML mail, and in Live Mail it seems to be working well. However, upon receiving this mail in another client (for example in Outlook, which I use for my work account), the font changes to Times New Roman or something similar.

See these screenshots below:

When sending this seems to work fine:

However, upon receiving it looks like this:

In trying to attach my computer to my HDTV last night I wound up playing with the default font sizes of WinXP. I moved them from 100% (96dpi) all the way up to 500%.... which was fine during that session of Winxp, but once I rebooted once I can hardly see anything on the screen outside of a few words at a time.

I would just go back into Display Properties>>>Settingg>>>Advanced and reset to default, but I can only fit basically the top 20% of the Display Properties box on the screen. Thus, I can click the Settings Tab, but then cant move down far enough to reach the advanced button at the bottom of the box and click ok to move on to the next box.

Can anyone help a poor fella out here on how I can do this?

Does anyone know how to change the font of the message list in Windows Live Mail 2011? When I set the message list view to one-line view the subject of unread messages in the message list is bold Calibri and I can't stand it. When I read the email the font changes and is fine. When I change to two-line view the font is fine.

On my other laptop with Windows Live Mail 2011 the font is not Calibri and it's fine. The only difference between the 2 laptops is that I installed IE9 on this one before I installed Windows Live Essentials 2011. I have since uninstalled IE9 because I didn't like it. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the difference of the one-line message view font.

I've searched high and low for a way to change the message view font in one-line view from Calibri.

A:Is there a way to change the size of the default font in WordPad

To change the default font in WordPad, you would have to change the system configuration.
This is a quick way to change the font before you type anything in Wordpad. When you open WordPad, double click in the empty text area and you should see a thick selection bar instead of the thin cursor bar. This selects all, then go to the font size and change it to any size you want. Your font size should remain at the chosen setting for the entire time that you are working on the file.

Is there a way to change the default font size of the Arabic font of choice in IE? I see where I can choose which font, but I don't see an option for its size, other than changing all fonts. Roman letters appear much larger than Arabic and to enlarge all to accomodate Arabic makes the Roman letters huge!

The alternative might be to locate an Arabic font that is inherently larger and add that to the list of options, but I don't know what font that would be nor how to add it to the list in IE8.

There has to be a way. Anyone have suggestions?

So unless there is a specific font used by a site all defaults are now Helvetica. I run Google Chrome as a browser and though I checked all of the font settings on it it seems that all is normal.
I tried to delete the file but it tells me that it is in use in another program. I can delete other font files though.

Lately a peculiar problem has developed whenever we choose to reply to an e-mail. When I click on "Reply", the reply e-mail layout has a huge font size. It does not respond to the font type or size selector at the top of the page. If I manage to complete the response and click on "Send", the reply goes out as usual. If I check on the reply in the "Sent" folder, the reply font size is normal, probably about size 10. Any ideas as to the remedy ? Thanks.

Vista Mail? I wonder if you mean "Windows Mail" or "Windows Live Mail". The size of received mail text is set by the sender. However, see this for Windows Live Mail: it can sometimes be temporarily enlarged for viewing by holding the Ctrl key and turning the mouse scroll wheel. There are ways to increase the system text size but I assume it is only email that you want to change.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

How do I enlarge the font of W7 Pro? The system font, and thus (I hope) Live Mail, and other Live Essentials that have such tiny and fuzzy print as to be unreadable? Zooming in does not work for these applications/system.

Boy, am I sure sorry I got Professional, because it is not a problem in the cheaper versions from what I understand. I enlarged, and picked easy-to-read fonts, as much as I was given the choice through Custom Themes. I even tried resizing the screen, but it puts all buttons outside the visible fields. I guess MS does not care if we can actually read our mail.

I appreciate all imput, plus hope someday Windows will be more friendly for us older folk..

What steps did you take to change Fonts. Was it through the Advanced options panel? Standard font is sergio UI (Size 9, but that may vary in applications)

Hey guys,
So I'm wondering If I could get help with getting a font to be used in the system. The font I want to use is this:
(traditional) AR Tianniu B5 - Free Chinese Font - Free Chinese Font

However the font name is in Chinese:
called '最新版心形中文甜妞体智能机专用科'

I'm trying to use this font as a system font on my English Home Premium Windows 7 64-bit.

I've tried changing the fonts the normal way via the 'change window colors and metrice' way in the control panel. However, the font I installed doesn't appear as an option because the font name is in chinese?
I tried to change the font name to English, however it makes the font invalid.

There is no "reset" for WLM. Why not just go through the "options" and "safety options"? (It's good to become familiar with them.) What problem do you think will be fixed by a reset? My problem is that the font size was OK (roughly 12 on 1920 x 1080 monitor resolution) when running Vista 64 on my PC. I noticed that my peripherals finally had Windows 7 device drivers so I made the switch to Windows 7. Now the font size is roughly 3 with a 1920 x 1080 monitor resolution. Adjusting the text size to 150% gives me approximately 4 with a 1920 x 1080 monitor resolution. If I drop the resolution to 800 x 600 then the font size is roughly the same as it was with Vista.

Welcome to Seven Forums msdclark. As far as I am aware, there is no way to change just the font size universally. You already have done the suggested method. The overall displays are most affected by the screen resolution, and DPI (which affects everything, as you have seen. You can change font sizes in Office apps, if that helps

Change or set the default font - Word

You can increase everything, then use the Ctrl keyboard button and the mouse wheel to decrease icon size. It's not what you seek, but you'll have to find workarounds. A Guy

Right above the greyed out Font selection there is a drop down 'item' menu. Make a selection in the drop down menu, and if 'fonts' are relevant to that particular item you will be able to change it.

The reason it is greyed out is you must have an item selected that 'fonts' are not a part of.

I hope that answers you question, not sure.

My problem now is whenever I open certain applications, for example ActiveSync for my pocket PC or the print properties on my printer, or even when installing a new program, the font used to display application specific text on the screen isn't the Windows default font and I end up with a window with alot of options which isn't resizeable and because of the change in the font I can't see all the options.

It isn't application specific because it still happens with an application that is installed after that problem occurred and the result is the same.

This is apparently exactly the the same problem as the old WinXP issue relating to quot normal fonts DPI quot vs quot large fonts DPI quot except that Microsoft now refers to it as quot medium quot in the Personalize - gt Display font size customization dialog The problem is that if the application has drawn its window to be FIXED-SIZE as opposed to re-sizable using the lower-right-corner quot pull quot control and does not also provide scroll-bars in case the fixed window size is too small to show everything when customizing font size to be larger than Windows apparently only grows the windows size 125%: wrong Personalize->font drawn HORIZONTAL size of the window but does not also grow the window in the VERTICAL dimension The result is often to simply chop off the lower content of a window Personalize->font size 125%: windows drawn wrong as intended to be drawn by the application I have just run into this with a Sirius Player Internet Radio application named Stream ON Here is the player window at font size showing everything it should And here is the same player window at font size Note the loss of the entire lower portion of the expected content and application controls In fact the window is x whereas the window is x Sure the application has drawn the window as FIXED and non-resizable But if Win is going to widen the window by why doesn't it also increase the vertical size of the window by Seems like the blame should be shared both by the application developer for writing an app that is not DPI-aware and also for Microsoft for not growing the window quot overall by in both directions quot Again this is not a problem new or unique to Win as it's been around for at least years in both Win as well as WinXP both of which supported quot large fonts DPI quot customization Very annoying to see this carried forward into Win as well Win Pro X ATI HD Catalyst

Hi Miro,

In Windows 7, the default theme font for Windows Aero is Segoe UI.

In Windows 8, the default theme font for Windows Metro is Segoe WP.

You can change the font by editing the theme in Windows 7 (right-click on the desktop → personalize).

You can't change the font in Windows 8 as the feature was removed.

As the title states, every other day or so after being off for about 16 hours, when I start the computer, Wingdings is the default font.
I did complete computer scans with Avast, Malware Bytes and Microsoft Essentials. There is no virus or malware detected!

A search on the forum recommended the above and also suggested that the font registration goes bad when using Windows update while anti-virus is on. However, that scenario is allegedly only on Windows XP machines.

My cure is to merge a font registry fix and restart, then all is back to normal. I may end up doing a re-install, but would appreciate any suggestions or fixes that would do the trick for me.

For some reason, Powershell uses the 12x16 px raster font.
I know how to change the font in each new Powershell session and changed it in the Defaults
settings of Powershell to Lucida Console 14px.
However, every time I start Powershell even as an Admin, it uses the raster font as the default.
As the days of raster fonts are really over, in my opinion, how can I change the default font for Powershell?

A:Change default font in Powershell for Windows 8.1

Hello DPM2009.
Open a PowerShell Windows as Administrator, set the default font properties and close the PowerShell window; then, run again PowerShell as a normal user and you should find the same font settings (it is working fine on my Windows 8.1 Pro x64).
