Server 2008 re-install software

Q: Server 2008 re-install software

I have a 2008 server and I'm trying to re-install Crystal reports software becuase of a missing dll. I can re-install without any problems, and when I go into the software it works fine, but when I log off and log back on, I have the same problems taht I had before re-installing.

It's like the re-install did not happen, I'm and admin on the server and I'm also running the setup.exe as admin, what could be the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Server 2008 re-install software

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a problem.

I run a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine that amongst other things, acts as a media store/server. I recently got a Windows Phone 7 handset that can only synchronise content via Zune (ridiculous, I know), but Zune refuses to install on Server 2008 R2, saying it can only be installed on XP and Windows 7.

I have installed most of the Win 7 components missing from Server 2008 R2 so I'm not worried about compatibility, I just want to know, how can I force install an application to an OS that it is not 'allowed' to be installed on.

If I can't get Zune onto the Server, I'm effectively barred from transfering music and video to my phone. Please help.

I am looking for a good backup solution for 2008 Server std x64. This server is an upgrade from 03 and I really liked that solution but no support for 2008.I had a USR 8700 NAS on a fiber connection to another building. Using the falconstor Disk Safe Client. I liked the ability to mount the backups as a drive. The speed of the iscsi interface. and the monitory with e-mail notification, I have looked at falconstor's site and saw some of there current software however no pricing, and price is a big issue.I have also found backup assist. I looked at it and seems more a wbadmin script writer with a couple needed perks. Anybody know any other options, or a way to make falconstor disksafe work on 2008 x64??
Thanks in advance

I tried resolving this issue by doing "Windows feature turn off". But this edition does not allow me to save changes on Windows feature.

Kindly guide me whether Sql server 2008 R2 need any prerequesite or it can be installed by simply doing windows add feature.

Server 2008, failed VPN setup made me lose all internal wired LAN connections to server.

I tried to set up VPN using online instructions for Server2008. As soon as it enabled all our company PCs internally lost access to server.

Can anyone help me remove my VPN setup and restore local LAN connections, its as if the VPN overides the LAN connections internally.

As such all hard wired PCs lost internet too as its through server, however wireless PCs do have internet but no server access.

Note that all was working previously

A:Unable to install after windows 2008 R2 server

When an operating system is already installed and you want to replace it with a different one, you have to go into the BIOS Setup and change the first boot device to CD-ROM.

When you turn on your PC, look at the splash-screen which appears during the initial boot process. It will say "Press X to for Setup" (where X is the actual key you need to press and hold until the BIOS Setup screen appears).

Hello all,

Your help is desired here.

I just built a fresh windows server 2008 64 bit OS. I need to install sql 2008 on it. When I try it immediately prompts an error saying microsoft .net 3.5 is not installed.

Problem is, is I did install .net 3.5 sp1.

Some things I have researched indicate that 3.5 needs to be enabled in 2008 server OS. When I go to do that, all that is listed under features is .net 3.0. So I enabled that, hoping that on a refresh it would see 3.5 but it does not.

Has anyone installed sql 2008 on a windows 2008 server and if so could you shed any light please?

Is there a way to accomplish this?

A:Restrict Administrator account to install only (Server 2008)

Can you install administrator applications that require administrative power to be installed....No...unless you get the developer of those applications to change them. Even if you could, that would be a security risk. A non-administrator user could use the administrative-powered application to conduct administrative tasks. Not good.

Was looking to see if this was possible. I see it for 2008 R2 but not server 2008 standard or x64. Just wondering if this can be done. We have a situation where it needs to be installed on some servers but they are older.

I have not tried to install IE 11 on server 2008 yet. I can try but didn't want to cause an issue if it wasn't going to work.

A:Windows Server 2008 R2 - SP1 wont install - 0x800f0818

The affected update here is one which isn't publicly (officially) available - it's the Windows Update Agent update.

This looks to me rather as if you've already attempted a fix, and it's failed because you simply renamed an existing file?

Let's see if the standard fix works - but we may have to get creative.

I've uploaded a file - rvxaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive

Please download and save it.

Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…

Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder rvxaa in the same place.

Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it ( Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Then,
SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Upload the CBS.log file (compressed, please!) to your reply - if it's bigger than 8MB compressed, then upload it to a fileshare site, and post a link (preferably DropBox or OneDrive).

Hi !

I am on IE9 but would like to install IE11. I can download it easily, but then a window says I need service pack 1. However, the automatic update tells me there's no update available for my computer, and if I try the Windows download center, it just doesn't work, and there's a choice of 4 or 5 different SP1's which all look the same to me... I've downloaded several, but get absolutely nowhere.

Would I automatically get SP1 if I bought a newer version of Windows 7 or if I upgraded ? The one I use is family premium and is about 2.5 years old.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Unable to install Windows 7 service pack 1 or server 2008 R2 SP1

Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center

The one you need is windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe - This application installs Sp1 to a 64-bit machine running Windows 7

When you use the download button you have to scroll down to see it.

If you still have problems try working through the instructions on this page You do not have the option of downloading Windows 7 SP1 when you use Windows Update to check for updates

As far I know, we cannt directly install the so mentioned in windows 7 home edition. Is is possible to install these softwares on a virtual server? if so, what type of virtual software and version I need to install on my laptop? is there any way to install these 3 softwares on my laptop? please help.

A:How to install Windows Server 2008 R2 on Windows 7 HP using virtual?

You might try install the virtual PC software and then creating a virtual drive, then install the OS that you wish to.
Microsoft's free virtual xp won't install on home products but virtual pc will as long as your bios supports virtualization.

Somebody please help me. A walkthrough would be great. This is my problem. I have a server at work, I am a computer engineer, however the problem is I have not had much experience with servers. My task is to install some software onto the server (Windows Server 2003) so that the software can then be accessed and run on each client computer (PC that is connected to the server)

Would anyone have any tips, or be able to walk me through doing this ?

Please help, and thanks.

I have a CD for it and i want it to be my operating system instead of Windows 8. Is it possible to do this?

A:How do I install Windows Server 2008 R2 on Windows 8?

It's probably considered a downgrade since 8 came out after 2k8. 2008 is the companion of Vista and 2008r2 is the companion of Windows 7.

Are you wanting to install it in a VM or directly on the hardware ?? If you're doing a "hardware" install, you'll have to wipe it first.

Hi guys What free Antivirus software for servers What free anti-malware would NOT be a good idea Info My friend has purchased a Poweredge server to act as a fileserver for a private network not connected to the internet He uses laptops at the most to access files on the server However at some points he will update Windows Server Server ? Free Antivirus e.g. for Server Windows 2008 plus odd bits by temporaily hooking up to the Internet and obviously leave himself open Free Server Antivirus ? e.g. for Windows Server 2008 to malware etc for a short time The cost Free Server Antivirus ? e.g. for Windows Server 2008 of server Antivirus is very high and usually effective for workstations upwards and obviously he would appreciate keeping costs down Questions I would appreciate thoughts on ideas for avoiding a costly solution Also if he got Malware on it e g Rootkit or Delta would current Bleeping Computer tools e g Rkill RogueKiller etc still work on the server - or does it require another approach I am asking fior advice BEFORE he gets started while options are open Thanks in advance guys

A:Free Server Antivirus ? e.g. for Windows Server 2008

The answer is fairly simple. Just read the details on the site -
Microsoft Security Essentials is available for small businesses with up to 10 PCs.

• Microsoft Security Essentials:
Microsoft updated it’s free Anti-Virus solution at the end of 2010 to support Windows 2008/R2.
This is easily one of the better free offerings as Microsoft has updated this solution to complete directly with some of the biggest solutions, such as Mcafee and Symantec paid versions.

When downloading, simply choose Windows Vista / Windows 7, as Microsoft has yet to update the website.http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

We had:

1) 1 Windows Server 2003 running Active Directory services to manage logon and permissions for file sharing.
2) 15 workstations.

We now want to have:

1) 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 server running Active Directory services to manage logon and permissions for file sharing.
2) 15 same workstations, with their same user profiles.

So I joined the 2008 R2 server to the domain, and then used the dcpromo tool to make it a domain controller.

Problem is, whenever I take the old server offline, (the 2003 one) everything flips out, logons are slow, and the 2008 server gives people trying to access shared files weird errors like that the server that authenticated them cannot be contacted, and asks them to log in again with their username and password before accessing shared files on the server.

What did I do wrong? I must be forgetting something.

I'm trying to decide between Windows Home Server and Windows Server 2008 R2 for my home server PC. Ordinarily it would be a clear cut choice, but I've got a free copy of Server 2008 R2 through my academic MSDN subscription. I'd like to avoid spending extra money if Server 2008 R2 would do the job. But I'm willing to buy Home Server should it prove necesary. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

A:Windows home server vs Server 2008 R2

Server 2008 R2 is a more fully functional product. You will be able to do similar things, but it might be a little more involved getting it set up and working. Plus, if you are interested in IT, you could use the Server 2008 R2 experience....but you won't get hired for your knowledge on Windows Home Server.

My vote is Server 2008 R2 without a doubt.

Hi all Have been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server hosting VM's XP W mix and file print sharing I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages Note I'm using a server in a HOME for server Linux Windows or Server 2008 environment where we have around machines most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be quot A Better Windows 2008 Server or Linux for server Windows than Windows quot You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more To select what packages to install leave out now is a pain and if Windows 2008 Server or Linux for server you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors I've looked at the new SUSE -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED quot an alternative Windows quot I've just been looking at Windows Server R got it from Technet and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED Windows 2008 Server or Linux for server with it so far I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server It runs vmware server on it just fine although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it This guy does a great job at this Convert your Windows Server R to a Workstation - Multiboot Installation W VM's run just fine on W server they should as there is a lot of common code Cheers jimbo

My main concern was for media server to stream to few devices in the house. I was thinking plex. Does anyone have any other ways I can go about it.

A:Server 2008 for home server... Opinions please.

Not sure what opinions you want. All I can say is that you don't need server 2008 R2 to complete your desired tasks. Any basic Windows client OS should work.

EDIT: It should be noted that Windows Server OS's are enterprise standards therefore a lot of home license applications will not install unless it is open source. You will need to purchase enterprise licenses of software for them to be installed on the server. This is particularly important with Anti-Virus solutions.

A:Help choose: Windows Home Server 2011 vs. Windows Server 2008 R2

Honestly, I use both in their proper settings, and unless you have a domain at home with multiple users, Windows Server 2008 R2 is overkill...and would require much more tweaking and add-in apps to do what you want. Given your write-up, WHS 2011 is the way to go. It does much of what you want out of the box, and is designed for people who don't want to become server admins (or at least not be forced to).

any thoughts?

Eeeek!

I loaded server 2008 to play with for a couple of days... I WON'T use it for production. It's vista with active directory and I personally don't like it.

I know this is a Win & forum but I am thinking about setting up a Win Server 2008 R2 server to learn how to administer a server. As you might guess I really know nothing about how to even get started and am not an IT person, just someone that likes to tinker with computers.

Can someone recommend a path ie books, classes, online classes etc to get me started?

Thanks

A:Server 2008 R2

Ok you might think Im nuts, but look into the "For Dummies" Books I own a few myself and they are great for giving you ideas and hints on setting things up and remembering things with the way they are worded.
Also since 2008r2 is still so new it might be hard to find info on it. I would look into Server 2003 first then you can grab a book on 2008 since 90% of server stuff is just updated from one to another with added items here and there. Also grabbing the older copy will be a bit cheaper on the wallet then you can go from there about spending the extra cash.

Is it possible to have these both on disk?
has anyone had any issues?

Which should I install first for that matter?

A:Win 7 and Server 2008 R2

Do you mean the same HDD or the same DVD (aka a backup disk)?

If it is the latter then I don't believe you can, but if it is the former then yes as long as you create a separate partition for etch OS (Partition or Volume - Create New)

Hi all I ve recently promoted a Windows Server DC to primary and assumed all Server 2008 DNS the AD and DNS rolls to it It s working well and DNS is working on it I have also forwarded the service providers Server 2008 DNS dns to it The setup is that it s the only server handing out internal dns to separate locations with locations on Comcast and one on Windstream T If the location that the server is at goes offline I loose internet access at the other three locations and always did even with the original server Work station s are setup with dynamic ip dns We use Linksys RV VPN s and my thought is to setup the second dns on them to be Comcasts and in the one location WindStreams However when I add the entry on the VPN routers I break internal name resolution of the PC s on the network and users have to use IP addresses of our Terminal servers What I d like to do is have the other locations still have internet access even if the internal DNS server is down Is there a way to do this The RV s have dual wan so maybe I could use the Failover with different dns numbers and have it go to the same modem or any other ideas Thanks as always in advance for any ideas Jay nbsp

This seems to be a common question on many forums but I have yet to find an adequate solution. In connecting my Seagate NAS 440 to my Server 2008 R2 and joining it to the domain, I am no longer able to access it through the browser by the IP address. If I run the NAS utility it finds no process on the other end of the pipe. If I attempt by NetBios Name it connects just find. The issue is I have some devices on my network (Scanners/Copiers) that don't communicate well with anything but the IP address. I have tried firmware upgrades, DNS Forward/Reverse Lookup, NS2 Authentication Level, reinstallations on both ends and nothing seems to work. Please help with any information.

Set up a server for my home network, server + laptop + desktop, using Windows Server 2008 R2. I am experimenting with an FTP site, my 1st try at any of this.

Set up the FTP site OK. When entering the site address into a browser address bar, am promted for a User Name and Password for logon.

Does anyone know where, or how, I set up the User Name and Password?

A:Server 2008 R2 and FTP

You set them up as local users on the box. Or, if you are running a domain, you set up their accounts in active directory users and computers.

Technically, you need a CAL (client access license) for each user account that you set up...or you need the Internet connector license if you are going to let the public get to it. Hence the reason that I never use Windows boxes as FTP servers.

I have a Server 2008 with Fax service installed and working. I cannot get either my Win 7 workstations nor my XP workstations to connect to the fax server. Both can connect to \\server\fax as a printer, but neither can actually function.

The Win 7 Fax & Scan says "You do not have security permissions to complete this operation" when I try to add the \\server as an account. XP says something similar.

Has anyone resolved this issue reliably?

Hello,

We have MS Server 2008 R2.
We have printers that staff can print to that have locked security via security tab in Windows for that particular printer.

We also have a wireless network for public users.
Public users who have Mac laptops can connect to these printers instantly.
I just tested a Windows 7 machine - and they can add the printer that is locked down as well.

Does anyone know how to prevent the public from adding staff printers?

thanks!
-Mike

A:MS Server 2008 R2 and printers

Mike Green, welcome to the windows 7 forum.

the best way is to put your wireless users on a separate network ip range. Also set the security on the printers to AD users only. The public users might be able to see the printer by IP if they are on the same subnet but if the security is set to only AD users allowed, then they could not print or do anything to your network printers.

What "locked security" settings are set?

Rich

I need to connect workstations running XP to a network, heard (overheard?) XP and server 2008 are not compatible. Is this true? Do I need to stick w/ server 2003? Are there programs to overcome this alleged obstacle? Thanks to anyone with knowledgeable input.

A:XP and Server 2008 compatible?

I am studying Win2003 Server and much of what I've learned will apply.

If you set your Win2008 Server as a Domain Server, using the default Forest Level, it will support NT thru XP.

Now if your talking about Managed Desktops (managed from the Domain Server; updates, configuration, etc.), that is another can-of-worms.

For small organizations, Managed Desktops is not a good idea. Let each user set the Windows configuration to their liking and/or company policy. Win Updates should be set to Notification ONLY, so they do not interfere with on-going work. They download/install whenever they are not doing anything.

On Server 2008 when you create a DNS forwarding address, and a client on the domain, types google.com, the DC uses the fowarding address on the DC to find out the ip, in place of itself or interface addresses, right? Also on the Server (DC) itself it uses the DNS servers defined under network properties for its own DNS lookups, right?

A:Server 2008 Question

The machine will attempt to contact whatever DNS server is listed in it's network properties first. In the case of your domain controller, it will look to itself to see what domains it's authoritative for, and for everything else, it will use root hints to query additional domain controllers on the internet to determine the answer.

When you put in a forwarder, you typically do so, for either
1). Everything else that you aren't authoritative for
2). A specific domain...for example. *.mycompanieswebsite.com.

So, in the event that you are trying to accomplish #2 above, if you attempted to resolve the name of server1.mycompanieswebsite.com...your DNS server would try to answer it itself if it can (if it's authoritative for the zone) and if not, it will then send the query to the DNS server you have listed as the forwarder for *.mycompanieswebsite.com.

Hope that helps.

Working in a high school. students can bring own computers. We just upgraded to server 2008 R2. The students with macs can't see their file folders. I know/have heard that 2008 doesn't use appletalk (which seems to be the issue.)

Any suggestions on how my students with Macs can get to their folders? They can use the wireless and using tcpip can get to printers.

thanks,

Hello Yaku, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The first of your screenshots tells that your username and / or password for SQL Server Database Engine is not valid. You need to give a correct username and password.

The second screenshot only tells you that before you can use SQL Server 2008 in your operating system, you must install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. This is not an error message, it is just a reminder that you need to install service pack 1 before you can use SQL Server 2008.

I have random BSOD with SERVER 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition with SP1.
This usually occurs when I try to make network changes or install an application that needs access the TCP stack, or so it appears.
Last time machine crashed when i was installing peer blocker.

This is server is a clean install and it runs HYPER-V.

I ran the utility as per instructions but I cannot see echo.zip file within
C:\Users\username\Documents folder - but I do see Windows7_Vista_jcgriff2 folder that contains lots of files within.

I can either zip up the whole Windows7_Vista_jcgriff2 folder or mini dump file and upload it, if that is acceptable.

please advise

I'm not familiar with an echo.zip file. Where did you see it/ the name?

Please zip up the entire Windows7_Vista_jcgriff2 and attach to your next post.

Has anyone got Microsoft Home Server 2008 running and is Windows 7 able to delve into it?

I ordered 3 trial copies, and I wanted to know if I will be able to access my information on it. I will be putting all of my movies, pictures, and other such stuff on it.

I still have Vista in my quadboot if it becomes a problem.

I hope to be able to do this over the holidays. Gotta fix a heat issue in the machine I will be putting WHS 2K8 on.

i want to know difference between win server 2008 and win7 that oly i want to know

A:windows server 2008 rc

There are lots of differences. One is a client (win7) and 1 is designed to be a server (2008). The server offers various basic network services such as DHCP, DNS, WINS, VPN, Active Directory, Certificate Services, IIS Web Server, FTP Server, etc. Server 2008 is far more expensive to buy licenses for.

A:Server 2008 question

We have some Server 2008 boxes in Norway, and I am in the process of setting up one here in Michigan also. However, it's just a file server, and have not run into any problems yet. I have also set up a 2008 box in a virtual environment for testing purposes, and still have had no problems.

Here's the issue I am having.
My VPN is currently on a server 2003. I have installed it on my server 2008. I go into my sonicwall and changed the IP address from 192.168.0.11 (old VPN server) to the new IP 192.168.0.13 (new VPN server) and I am unable to connect to VPN.
However if I change the IP address of the new server to 192.168.0.11 I can connect via VPN just fine.
I'm not sure if it matters but my old VPN server is also a backup domain controller and DNS, the new server is just a file share server and has IIS enabled for our antivirus.
I've looked at every setting I can think of and I even called Sonicwall and they state everything looks good in my settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated in this!

A:FTP and VPN into Windows Server 2008

the Virtual server is run under a specific user-id; I think you need that id and password

<ctl><alt>del will get the task manager and the column name User Name is what you need.

scroll to the process controlling the VM

you may need to alter the settings for the VM to force it to run under another
specific user which you can set the pwd
create new account
set new password for it
login to that account to create the %profile% areathen assign the VM to run under that login

Hi there,

I have a few problems regarding users being able to create a folder on their desktop, but then they cannot open it. They get a restrictions pop up and if they try to save to it from Office they are not allowed.
I also have the problem with students being able to save all over the place
Users must not be able to Encrypt a file - How am I able to stop them from doing so?

Users canít paste on to the desktop
When a user opens there user drive, 2 windows open.
What could be causing these problem?
I have attached a few screen shots to depict what I mean.

Any suggestions are most warmly welcomed.

I have a home server that I'm using to host a site with a domain purchased from Go Daddy. I understand how to set up a static IP address on Win Server 2008, but my provider will not allow for me to purchase a static IP because I'm a home customer, not a business.
My question is this: should I just ipconfig my ip address every seven days and then change my server's address? Is there a software alternative? Is it necessary for me to change it at all?
Thanks!

A:Win Server 2008 R2 with dyanmic IP

I don't understand why you need to change your server's IP. As long as your are port forwarding 80 to the servers private IP then the only thing that changes every 7 days is your public IP. GoDaddy has a dynamic IP service you can purchase which will automatically update your DNS records when your public IP changes.

I have a client running a Windows 2008 file server. A user's computer was infected with the HELP_DECRYPT virus and uploaded it to the file server. I am able to detect the virus and infected files but am not confident if I remove the virus that it will decrypt the files. I'm also hesitent to remove the infection in fear of losing the capability to decrypt the files. I've read many threads that suggest VSS, system restore, or backups will resolve the issue, but unfortunately this is a brand new client and they haven't had any backups in many months. Any assistance on the issue is appreciated. Thanks.

A:HELP_DECRYPT Server 2008

This sounds more like ransomware.  Look for a readme file telling you who to pay to get your data back.

Without backups you don't want to do anything else or you can lose everything.

Have an issue with a active directory replication need.
I have 2 networks: Net1 is a 10.100.1.x network. Net2 is a 10.200.1.x network

I have an DC on each network and need to make them replicate. My problem is that the networks are completely separated and have NO access to each other. I am hoping to find some info on how I can setup the replication over some firewall port settings, which the firewall will route the replication between the 2 AD servers sitting on each network.

I am hoping someone can give some advise.

Thanks

Windows switches from the bios usb drivers to it's
own during boot, which would cause a usb drive
installation to crash.
I would suggest you consider using some virtual machine
software so you can run it from an image on your windows drive.
