Free Twain scan w/pdf + email?

Q: Free Twain scan w/pdf + email?

Although the new Win7 machine scans fine to the HP with HP's software for reasons Canon cannot determine the machine will not scan to the Canon with Canon's software. Canon support suggested I download 3rd party software to use with the Canon but I'm not having luck finding a small, free, Twain app that will not only scan to pdf but will 'scan, open a new blank Outlook email and attach the result' as does the Canon and HP scan software.

Anyone use something like this?

The one's I've come across so far, once installed, advise of a 30 or so day time fuse.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can test your Canon scanner with the web twain online demo here. With it, you can acquire images from your canon scanner and save as pdf via browser. With the testing, you can then determine if it's the scanner driver issue or the app issue.

It's possible that TWAIN DSM is missing on your Win 7 machine. You can get it here and try again.

Hi,

I was wondering what is the best free virus scan and best free spyware scan? Also, I was wondering if I should use a cocktail of scans, in other words, what one scan doesn't pick the next ones will?

Thanks,

A:Why would I get a Stop Scan during Avast (free) Smart Scan?

Lets have a look at what is going on, by using some special tools. Here are the first 2 steps, there will be more steps needed after I see the results of these logs.Run them in this order.Step 1: Run AdwCleaner http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivi...http://www.raymond.cc/blog/adwclean...http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...Author's sitehttp://general-changelog-team.fr/en...Tutorialhttp://general-changelog-team.fr/en...Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Clean.Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please Copy & Paste the contents of that logfile with your next answer. You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.Step 2: Run Junkware Removal Toolhttp://www.softpedia.com/get/Securi...http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...http://thisisudax.org/http://thisisudax.blogspot.com.au/2...Download Junkware Removal Tool onto your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.Warning! Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7/8, right-click JRT and select Run as Administrator. The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved onto your Desktop and will automatically open. Copy and Paste the contents of the JRT.txt log please.

Yahoo is spam city.

Outlook seems to be OK, sort of, but I'm not wild about the interface.

Mail.com is pretty good, but they keep pushing their premium service.

I've used a a few others that seem to have vaporized.

So, what else is out there that gives a relatively spam and ad free experience with POP3 and/or IMAP capabilities?

Yeah, I know about the G thing too.

A:'Free' ad-free(ish) email services?

If you're going to download to POP3 or IMAP and not leave much on the server then one of the free services where you pay for a larger mailbox makes sense since you'll get all the benefits without the cost. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compar...mail_providers

Hello, let's see what another scanner says...Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

I recently bought a HP Photosmart C5280 to replace an older printer. Originally I used the drivers and software that shipped with HP but after about 3 days I realized that it was way to resource hungry on my machine and junked it all. Right now I'm using the bare bones driver package from HP and I need a freeware tool to allow me to use the scan function on my printer.

Hi All,

Could someone recommend free scan to pdf software? I would not to buy it because I don't need it regularly and will be happy with very simple set of functionality.
To clarify what I need: I have Canon scanner and would like to scan batch of documents into multipage PDF file with just several clicks without complex configuration etc. No need in advanced functionality.

Thank you,

A:registry scan - know a good free one?

Hello and welcome Niky. Why do you feel you needed to use uniblue. What issues are you having? They can most likely be fixed in other better ways.Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry. Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to work. Not all registry cleaners create a backup of the registry before making changes. If the changes prevent the system from booting up, then there is no backup available to restore it in order to regain functionality. A backup of the registry is essential BEFORE making any changes to the registry. Improperly removing registry entries can hamper malware disinfection and make the removal process more difficult if your computer becomes infected. For example, removing malware related registry entries before the infection is properly identified can contribute to system instability and even make the malware undetectable to removal tools. The usefulness of cleaning the registry is highly overrated and can be dangerous. In most cases, using a cleaner to remove obsolete, invalid, and erroneous entries does not affect system performance but it can result in "unpredictable results". Unless you have a particular problem that requires a registry edit to correct it, I would suggest you leave the registry alone. Using registry cleaning tools unnecessarily or incorrectly could lead to disastrous effects on your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. For routine use, the benefits to your computer are negligible while the potential risks are great.Ed Bott's Webog: Why I don't use registry cleanersDo I need a Registry Cleaner?

It has been long time since i used antivirus on my pc, my pc has been functioning extremely slow recently when i decided to purchase enetfix online antivirus, they showed on free scan which found a number of virus and malware. How do i know if the scan has performed genuinely and the report is correct?

A:Is the free Antivirus scan really genuine

I'm a little puzzled as to why after being content to use no antivirus (definitely not wise) you would then suddenly consider paying for an unknown quantity, when you could use known free offerings such as Avast Free or Microsoft Security Essentials.

However to double-check the status of your system as it stands, you could try a scan from another dependable online source, such as BitDefender:

According to the McAfee website their free scan does work with XP (but probably not Vista);
"System Requirements

Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher"

I haven't used ZA for a long time so I don't know what you need to do to allow an online scan, (which may look like an intrusion attempt), to work.

Dear Members,
I installed the free version of the AVG Anti Virus scanner on my desktop pc. After I did a first scan I probably deleted more than I should have... Stupid of me to trust a scan completely.

Now my pc freezes after some minutes and I have to restart is again.

Some things I already tried to solve my problem:

Make a HijackThis log
HitmanPro
GMER Rootkid scanner
Installed service pack again
MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM)
Standard ScanDisk by Windows (freezes at stage 4 of 5)

Although I don't believe it is some sort of virus, i wanted to excluded it.

I think I removed some critical windows parts with the AVG virus scanner.

Hopefully there is someone out here ca help me. Thanx in advantaged!
Kind regards,
Manolo

I know this is more or less a tip but figure it might do best here. It is simple really. If you run avg you will notice that it has advanced settings. If you do not know how to get here, you simply double click on the avg icon in your system tray, then click on tools>advanced settings. In the left pane, click on the resident shield dropdown then click advanced settings in the left pane. Here you can see a radio button is checked that says scan infectible files. Well...why would you want to do that as a nasty can be in anything? There is a simple fix here, just click the scan all files radio button. Then click ok and you can close the avg window.

Using Mozilla browser, I ran an AVG scan of my computer and in 'test result' (under the virus results tab) the following appears:

listed as 'object':
c:\windows\systems32\shell32.dll
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

next to each object, the "result" is listed as "change"
next to "result" column, the status is listed as "changed"

i have been seeing these "objects" for awhile now in the scans (a few weeks), but did not know how to read it. i thought 'change' meant that AVG had fixed it.

on the latest scan, i was asked if i wanted to accept the (i think) registry changes. i accepted them.

where do i go from here?

thanks in advance.

I've used many free antivirus programs in the past such as AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials. In these I've been able to setup a scheduled scan to run once a week.

However, since installing Avast 6 Free I can't seem to be able to find that option. How do I setup the scheduled scan in Avast 6?

A:Mcafee Free Online Scan Results

PrcViewerThis is a generic detection that covers multiple variants of PRCViewer. PRCViewer is a small command line utility that can alter a processes characteristics (Affinity and Priority) and also View, Close, Kill, Suspend and Resume running processes, even when Task Manager access is disabled.Variants are often used in specialized fix tools. Such programs have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized user or administrator has knowingly installed it. When flagged by an anti-virus or security scanner, it's because the program includes features, behavior or files that appear suspicious or it can potentially be used for malicious purposes. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others or that it was simply detected as suspicious due to the security program's Heuristic analysis engine which provides the ability to detect possible new variants of malware. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them.

I came across this offer through PC World for a free scan of my pc's drivers. The result indicates at least seven driver as "Bad" which I assume means outdated. When I attempted to update one of these drivers in Device Manager, it advises that a better match could not be found than my current driver.

From perusal of information available on the net re: Touchstone, it appears to be a legitimate corporation. My quesion is: Is this scan simply a sales promotion and if not,how much credence can I give this scan result?TYIA for your assistance. mchaggis

A:Is This Free Driver Update Scan Legit?

Hi airaced57Do yourself a big favor and never use third party apps to obtain driver updates.Always get them from your computer manufacturer or individual HW vendor directly. This is especially critical with OEM systems as many times the drivers are specially modified. The same goes for drivers from MS as well. Can't tell you how many times I've had to repair damage due to drivers provided by MS.I suggest you read the driver agent FAQ's and put it behind you.

We are all rightly concerned about the security of our Desktops and Laptops. For those who have the time, I would strongly recommend reading Fred Langa's blog at Test-driving ‘free scan’ tune-up suites.

In brief, Langa mostly endorses everything that is recommeded on this Forum by the Experts with one notable exception. He recommends highly using Macecraft's free PowerTools' Lite and Macecraft's jv16 PowerTools ($30) for handling the Registry errors in Windows 7.

I hope the blog proves be very useful to those who read it.

I currently have both Avast and Avira free versions loaded but allow only one to be active Personal Free Protection Avira Guard Scan at a time I have keep Avast active for E-mail purposes since it has an E-mail scanning feature and then switch to Avira for everything else I Avira Free Personal Guard Scan Protection have not noticed a problem with this set up I was aware that false positives were possible with this set up but after reading the posts here I have noted that a virus slip through was possible I now believe I should uninstall one of the programs Avast and Avira both seem to be excellent programs but between the two I have a Avira Free Personal Guard Scan Protection preference for Avira The free version of Avira does not have an E-mail scanning feature and do not want the paid version I run XP Home with Outlook and my E-mail is downloaded locally I believe Outlook converts the file to a database pst file before Avira Free Personal Guard Scan Protection I can open them Avira s Guard Scan mode configuration allows you to scan both read and write of all files which I have selected So if I were to receive an infected E-mail running the free version of Avira Would Avira be able to detect it Would it stop it in time Would my entire Outlook pst file be at risk Thanks

A:Avira Free Personal Guard Scan Protection

I thought others might be interested in the answers I found to my questions after posting to the Avira forum. I received a fast reply there in just over an hour by the Technical Support Manager of Avira (Wow!). I am much more comfortable now with using Avira exclusively as an antivirus including E-mail protection with my particular set up. I might note that I also just completed a complete scan of my system with all Avira settings to the max including scanning of all files on a 5 year old PC, P4 processor scanning about 60G of files on a 80G hard drive in 1 1/2 hours. I know this is not fast in absolute terms but on my system this was considerably faster than similiar scans by Symantec or Avast. The Heuristic setting set to max produced no false positives. Here is what I posted on the Avira forum and there responses.Post Subject: Avira Personal Scanner Settings ConfigurationLet me start out by thanking the good people at Avira for providing such an excellent antivirus product with a great engine, large virus definition database, heuristic scanning capability and fast definition updates. I need help on the configuration settings for Scanner and Guard. One can select to scan all files, smart file extensions or use file extensions list. Since I am not an expert I believe that selecting smart file extensions may be the best choice as Avira has chosen the file extensions to scan and I am sure have done a good job of balancing scanner speed and level of protection. But I do not have a clue as to the risk involved in not scanning other file types. I am aware that Avira Premium provides an E-mail scanner capable of scanning E-mails before they are downloaded but my finances will not allow this choice currently. I use Outlook 2007 as my E-mail client and my mail is downloaded locally on my hard drive. I have selected the Scanner Guard setting of both read and write. If I select smart file extensions and receive an infected E-mail will the infected E-mail be detected?Avira forum response - YesIf it is detected what level of infection is possible to my system?Avira forum response - NoWill the Outlook 2007 (.pst) file become infected or corrupted?Avira forum response - NoCan I increase E-Mail infection protection by selecting the scanning of all files or adding specific file extensions to the use file extension list?Avira forum response - PST files are seen as archives, so you can set to scan for Outlook mailboxes in Archives section. Thanks Again!

A:Solved: Does or doesn't free Avira scan messages?

In my experience, those email scanners are often more trouble than they are worth. Though AVG has one, I always turn it off. The resident shield scans mails when they are accessed, anyway, so I see no need for the extra feature and its occasional problems with particular types of mails.

I have an "Epson 1250 - Photo" flatbed scanner. I've installed all the patches but it keeps failing when I scan to file. The scan to file option is great because i can put 2 photos on the scanner and it will recognize them as 2 seperate files.

Anyways I'm wondering if there is any free software that will allow me to scan more than one photo at a time like Epson does? I have HP imaging software also but it doesn;'t seem to like the Epson scanner as I get a "missing" file error.

I tried using Auslogics Boostspeed trial version,
It's actually pretty cool 'cause it scans and shows how many junks files, registry errors, fragmented and disk errors there is, plus status if it's critical or whatsoever.
But since it's only a trial version, I can't fix/repair all of the errors.
the last time i checked showed that my computer doesn't have disk error but have other issues that need to be fixed. So i was wondering if there's such a program or i can manually check and fix stuff like this. Thanks in advance and have a nice day people^^

A:Is there a program/application(free) to scan and fix disk errors?

Windows has a built in disk checker. You can access it by right clicking on your drive and choosing "properties", then "tools" then "error-checking".

You can also run it from a command prompt.

You can also download disk utilities from your drive manufacturer's web site.

Having some issues ridding a family members laptop of a few infections. I can see it's infected with Cool Edit Pro 2.0, InboxAce and System Optimizer Pro at the very least. Malwarebytes will not start, AVG doesn't finish a scan, Rkill sees no issues, neither does TDSS killer. JRT has picked up a few and removed them successfully. I also keep getting popups telling me Java is out of date, which it is not. I also can not install any extensions to chrome, mainly https everywhere and adblock plus. Any help would be appreciated as I am at a dead end

Try this: Malwarebytes | Chameleon - Free Malware Removal Tool

I ran AVG Free Scan and it detected 19 IRP Hooks that it will not remove.
I do not know whether they are harmful.

I have read other threads that seem to suggest others have had a similar
issue but I am not very clear on what I need to do specifically. I am not
highly computer literate, am not sure exactly the same fix will apply to me.
I am using WIndows XP.

I am looking for free software which will scan a device when connected to a computer (desktop or laptop) automatically to detect virus, trojans, etc.

I have looked at Didier Stevens script, USBVirusScan, but I am not sure that this is the best solution as often, one does not know which drive letter the USB device will use when connecting to the computer, especially if multiple devices are connected.

I thought I saw either a script that detects when an USB device is connected or software that automatically scans when an USB device is connected.

I am currently using Avast! Free on Windows XP, fully patched.

Thanks!

While I was looking at info Not .. To Scan Or To Email regarding Emails that couldn't be restored from the dbx folder probably due to file corruption I came across this m ft article on the most common causes of said file corruption You're AV scanning your emails and the compaction process itself the latter being repaired in XP SP My question is do you agree with the idea of turning off the Email scan It makes sense to me To Scan Or Not To .. Email but To Scan Or Not To .. Email I'd prefer to hear if some of our BC's experts agree before I do so Here are the excerpts and link to the article http www microsoft com windows IE commun corruption mspxViral Irony The Most Common Cause of CorruptionWhen encountering the symptoms of DBX corruption many people immediately fear that their computer is infected with a virus As surprising and ironic as it may seem though the most common cause of DBX corruption is not a virus but rather anti-virus programs that are configured to scan incoming or outgoing e-mail Even the most well-known anti-virus programs have exhibited this problem from time to time To lessen the risk of such corruption you should disable the e-mail scanning module in your anti-virus program This is usually easy to do by looking at the user-configurable options in the anti-virus program It is not at all necessary to scan e-mail for viruses to protect your computer Now before you dismiss me as mad let me explain why e-mail scanning is unnecessary Almost every anti-virus program for Windows installs by default a system scan that runs in the background every time Windows starts This scan is necessary to protect your computer If you receive a virus in an e-mail attachment the virus cannot do anything at all until you actually open the attachment At that time Outlook Express extracts the attachment from the message and saves it to the Temporary Internet Files folder on your hard disk and attempts to open the file And it is precisely at that moment that a background system scan will detect the virus provided it is able to do so and stop the virus from executing The system scan will usually delete the infected file from the Temporary Internet Files folder or else move it to quarantine To remove the infected e-mail message in Outlook Express simply hold the Shift key while you press the Delete key That's all it takes to keep your computer safe both from e-mail viruses and e-mail anti-virus scanners Scanning e-mail as it arrives therefore adds nothing to your level of protection It might indeed make you feel more protected but that feeling is an illusion If the system scan is unable to detect the virus the e-mail scan will fail to do so also When the Cure Kills Compacting and CorruptionAs stated earlier compacting all folders in Outlook Express frequently repairs mild corruption But surprisingly enough and again as ironic as it seems the compaction process itself has also been implicated in causing corruption Before Windows XP Service Pack SP Outlook Express was configured by default to compact files automatically after Outlook Express had been inactive for some minutes However although Outlook Express might have been inactive the same could not always be said for other programs being used when compaction began On some systems particularly those with limited amounts of RAM or slow processors the sudden drain on computer resources sometimes caused the compaction process to hiccough and all too often a damaged DBX was the result It is largely for this reason that the background compaction feature has been removed in Windows XP SP Now Outlook Express will compact automatically only after you have opened and closed Outlook Express times It will do so not in the background when you might be busy doing other things on the computer but rather when you close Outlook Express for that th time Do not cancel this compaction nor use your computer until it is finished For best results however you should still compact all folders on a regular basi... Hi, and welcom to the forums! Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes. Please include the following in your reply:MBAM log

Hi, there, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this:I recently changed my hard drive, as my old one was dying. Now, after I formatted, etc., & ran avast quick scan, the scans have been taking about 1 & 1/2 hrs, & scanning approx. 97 GBs. Previously on my old HD, it would take approx. 1 hr. to scan, & about 53 GBs of data would be tested.I have approx. the same amount of data stored as on my old HD(106GBs or so). My new HD is also the same size as my old one.Any thoughts on this? I had stopped using the full scan, as it was taking way long when avast came out with the 2014 version, but then, that's beside the point. It is driving me batty(the long scan times for the quick scan), and I am almost ready to change antivirus programs!!!I would appreciate some input, or any experience anyone is having with avast now? Thank you!!!

Ok, here is what I am trying to do here. I have avast free. Version 7 will not let you use the auto scan function. I found where someone posted (http://www.dposorio.com/blog/173/ho...ic-scans-with-free-version-of-avast-on-vista/ ) instructions to add a task to Windows Task Scheduler but it was for Avast 4 under Windows Vista. I am trying to do this same thing with Avast 7 under Windows 7 64bit. They say the path should be something close to this -------> C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4 , That path will not work because with my setup when you get to the ( Alwil ) it goes off track. I have and am still looking for the correct path here but wanted to know if someone out here knew the file name in version 7 that will trigger a scan using Windows 7 Task Scheduler. Any ideas are appreciated.

I really am only concerned with incoming mail security and these scans take too long when a file is being transmitted.
Anyone else have a problem with this???

This started around 2 weeks ago.

When I press GET MAIL, the AVG popup pops up and just hangs. The AVG icon in the system tray keeps on spinning. But in fact nothing happens. I have to close thunderbird down and disable the AVG plug in in order to get mail.

I've looked on both Thunderbird's forum, they say it's an AVG issue, and I've lookd on AVG's forum who says it's a Thunderbird or firewall issue.

I've completely dissabled my firewall (scarey) and it still doesn't work. This is on 2 seperate PC's (WinXP sp2) on 2 seperate internet connections. So it's not a network issue. As I haven't updated Thunderbird it has to be an AVG issue, which updates daily.

Any help would be excellent.

A:Brother all -in-one won't scan to email

Hi compconfused,

It is very unlikely you will be able to scan to gmail as the scanner is expecting a windows executable on the local machine.

However the Brother MFC 5440CN does have Internet Fax that may well do what you wish, see http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/files/dlf/doc002219/I-FAX_UG.pdf

Alternatively you could just scan to a graphics program, save the image as a .jpg and attach it to an email in gmail, which wouldn't take days

I've recently installed a couple of new HP inkjet printers on Windows 7 machines, and for unknown reasons the scan to email feature does not work. Windows Live Mail is installed on both machines and set as the default mail application. Right clicking on a file and selecting "send to mail recipient" works perfectly, however the HP scan software gives an error saying that no email application is installed. I've Googled the problem and have found a number of discussions about it, but there is no solution so I'm looking for a third party scanning app with this functionality. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Wait for one of the HJT experts to check your log but, meanwhile, consider disabling one of the firewalls (the XP one since it's only one way?) and see if that helps. Also, check out this list of programs that have problems with SP2;http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=884130&product=windowsxpsp2 and;http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=842242

If you have IE set as your default browser you will almost certainly have ActiveX enabled!

I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but does anyone know how to modify the MAPI Email registry key for a HP 5610 Officejet All-in-One so that is includes windows live mail as an option in the scan to email settings? I only get windows mail or aol as options and I use neither. I have read elsewhere that someone used this method successfully with another printer I think it was a cannon or epson.

A:I need WLM as a scan to email option from HP printer

Hi,

Not sure if this will work but give it a try, from: -

How to Register Hotmail As Default Email in Windows 7 (NOTE: - Microsoft Answers

The answer is alot easier than people think, but for some reason microsoft will not show people howto do this.
Type in Start, Run:
regsvr32 "%Programfiles%\Internet Explorer\HMMAPI.DLL" and hit OK.
Your good to go.

I use Norton System Works 2002, which comes with their AV. I have it configured to scan all incoming eMail for viruses. I have been in the habit of doing an additional scan of any attachments, as I save them to disk first.

My question is this: Is this necessary, or am I just rescanning the mail a second time? Is there anything to be gained by scanning it once it's save to disk.

I have read a bit, and it looks like it is not necessary to scan it once it's arrived.

Looking for comments.

Thanks.

We are using two fax servers (an Inbound and Outbound fax server) and Windows Vista Business and Windows 7 Pro workstations with Windows Fax and Scan. We've configured the Outbound Fax to send email confirmation receipts using a mail account called "OutboundFax". Anonymous access is permissioned.

The odd thing is that not all our Fax users are getting consistent receipts. Some get success and failure receipts continually (as they should) while others will only sporadically get receipts. What might the problem be?

A:Windows Fax and Scan: email confirmations

Hello, could the problem be the sporadic receivers don't have their email client set properly to get notices?

I have free AVG virus software (8.0) and I'm using Thunderbird for my email. Suddenly, my emails have no content... it has the header and subject but no message. I got on the Thunderbird forum and they confused me more than I was when I started. At the end, after telling me to compact folders and something about AVG certification, they told me that the problem is caused by AVG. What should I do??? Dump AVG? Dump Thunderbird? Please help!

I Have windows 10. Here is my problem. I use an HP photosmart 5510 series all in one printer. I use this to scan documents. Before I upgraded from windows 7, I could scan to Email using Gmail. When I try this with windows 10, Using HP Scan, I'm told to set a default program in control panel. The problem is that the only program available is Microsoft mail.

Thanks in advance,

A:Computer running unusually slow after virus scan and created free space

Hi, if needed i will request it thank you. first I would like to get 2 other logs. S!Ri's SmitfraudFix Part 1:Please download SmitfraudFixDouble-click SmitfraudFix.exeSelect option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present). Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htmNow run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

I need to email scanned copies of different things. I can scan them ok, but I am having a hard time emailing them. I have tried setting up my gmail account in the scan setting window with no luck. Hi All,

Was wondering how I can setup or configure Norton Antivirus to automatically scan and detect viruses in incoming email attachments. It would automatically scan and notify you with a popup alert warning message of a virus before the email is open and viewed. Thanks for your help.

npd

A:Configure Norton to Scan Incoming Email

Norton has an option to scan incoming email if you turn it on. If that is what you are asking.

Cut and paste from their help file:

Email has become a vital part of our lives. Viruses use email as the most frequent mechanism to spread and infect computers. Norton AntiVirus supports all email programs that use POP3 and SMTP communications protocols.
Upon installation, Norton AntiVirus automatically configures your email program for protection against viruses.
Norton AntiVirus stops infections in incoming and outgoing email. For maximum protection, and to prevent you from spreading virus-infected email to your friends and colleagues, Norton AntiVirus scans your outgoing messages for viruses.

You should keep Email Scanning on at all times.

Email Scanning Status

The Email Scanning Status that is displayed depends on which Email Options you have selected.

Options Selected Status Displayed
Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email Email Scanning On
Scan incoming Email Incoming Email On
Scan outgoing Email Outgoing Email On
None Email Scanning Off
