Black Screen And Flashing then Blue Screen.

Q: Black Screen And Flashing then Blue Screen.

Alright, Well I play multiple games and I have the same problem with any game. When I play for like 20minutes or so my video goes insane! It flashes black and completely screen lags, Then it usually pixelates the screen after done flashing. Then after probably another 5 or 10, It will just completely lock up my computer then bring me to the blue screen. This has only started happening since i got Vista, Then I tried to see if getting windows 7 would fix it, But no...

Im pretty sure the problem is that these new operating systems are clashing with my drivers, All drivers are up to date, Hardrive checked, Video card working fine, RAM is all good.

If somone has had this same problem and fixed it some how please let me know.

Preferred Solution: Black Screen And Flashing then Blue Screen.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I turn on my computer all I get is a black screen with the flashing cursor up in the left corner of the screen. Any ideas as to how to correct this? I have a Dell from he'll computer-- inspiron E1505 about 8 years old and just had windows 7 home edition installed on it

A:Black screen with flashing cursor in upper left corner of screen

Hey I just went through something very similar. I found that my SATA cable connecting the hard drive to the motherboard had failed. I replaced it with a new SATA cable, and it booted right up. Try the cable first if you have one lying around, plus its a cheap solution. If you replace the cable and it still won't boot up, it might be your hard drive. Seeing as how your machine is that old, it could fail at any time.

Do you get anything on the screen when you turn it on?

Hi,

Due to a power cut earlier my PC naturally shut off the way you would if you switched it off at the plug.

It brought me into the windows error recovery screen and loaded until I reached the login screen.
Upon saying "Please wait" my screen begun to flash black rapidly and wouldn't load. The monitor wasn't going off or anything, the screen was just blinking.

It still does this every time I reboot my computer, so I can't log in at all.
It also does this in all safe modes so that is out of the question too.

Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks!

Hello So on my computer something strange happens when I uninstall UxStyle It Black Post-Windows Flashing Black Screen Update UxStyle has broken my Windows install once and it has done it again The UxStyle Black Flashing Post-Windows Update Black Screen first time I kept on doing system restores to see what was the problem that made that black screen After trial and error I narrowed it down to UxStyle So I deleted Windows and installed Windows which is what I wanted in the first place Now I decided to triple-boot Windows with Vista and and it has succeeded I reinstalled UxStyle thinking it was just a problem with my old Windows install and then uninstalled it after a few days since I felt like the regular look was better I rebooted Windows and the same effect happened So I would like to know if I can get and replace those three patched DLLs with unpatched DLLs for Windows Could I just change the broken ones to have old next to them and then place the ones I get here there Also would sfc scannow work

A:UxStyle Black Flashing Post-Windows Update Black Screen

Hello lct01a, and welcome to Eight Forums.

A sfc /scannow will attempt to repair any modified or corrupted system files, so that would be a good first step.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8

I updated my laptop today and my screen started flashing black whenever I'm on an internet browser. I've used Chrome and Opera. My internet browsers are up to date as well.  I've tried restarting it, shutting it down then turning it back on after a few minutes, and updating my drivers then restarting it. It still flashes black for a few seconds. It's not happening as frequently since i've updated my drivers but I am unable to buy a new warranty and I don't know the cost of a cal with HP.  I'm using wifi.  I couldn't find any specific question like mine that was recent so I thought I'd try asking myself.

Behavior:

Boot is fine, once OS loads and Login screen is displayed Screen flashes to black at ~1hz. Each flash resets mouse position to center-screen. This is an intermittent problem, seemed to be fixed then reoccurs, have run Avast boot and full scans, spybot search and destroy, and comodo premium scans, does not seem to be viral (although i have heard similar reports of these symptoms from other members of OMGPOP.com). Have no symptoms if running in safe-mode. Often symptoms dissipate after if spy-bot fixes all problems found while in safe-mode. I have not recently added any programs to my recollection, nor has there been any major updates that I can recall.

Current action:
checking history of all recent program updates, and or any seemingly unusual reports in system logs.

I have recently run into a problem with certain games giving me a black flickering screen. The game is playable but it keeps flickering black every few seconds. It doesnt happen on all my games. I have an NVIDA Gforce 32MB card and 256mb RAM. I have Directx 8.1 installed (i've heard 9.0 has issues) The games that this is happening to are not graphically intense. For example it happens on Grand Theft Auto 1 and the game also runs slow. Also happens on Shogun:total war. But I can play games like return to castle wolfenstien without a problem. It doesnt appear to be an issue with the monitor b/c I can connect remotely and have the same problem. Any suggestions on how I can resolve this problem?

Thanx

A:Black Flashing Screen

Ok,
Well then I can reccommend a few things.
Check all your video card settings. Use guide here for help http://www.techspot.com/guides-hardware.shtml
Use a program such as NVMax to setup your video cards setting properly. Its a simple little program that allows you to change many settings easily. The tweak guide I mentioned explains what all the options do.
Theres always the chance its a problem with another program. It could be caused by a conflict with another program running. Go here for a useful program to copy a log of your StartUp: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Posting that log here might prove useful.
Also, you mentioned RtCW runs fine, your probably using OpenGL for it. Maybe OpenGL is running fine, but Direct3d isn't.
Go to RUN and type 'dxdiag' to bring up DirectX. Run the test and see if all is well.

Windows appears to load normally until reaching the logon screen at which point 2 quick cmd windows flash on the screen and i'm left with a cursor and a plain blue screen.

No access to task manager through ctrl+alt+del.

I was thinking it's a video card problem until i plugged in an external monitor and saw a windows error box pop up saying that the program running requires that you not be on battery power.

Pulled the drive and scanned with avast and malwarebytes which found nothing.

Inserted Vista DVD but the repair function is only able to find the HP Restore partition and is unable to locate any backups.

The system runs "mini XP" from Hirens Boot without a problem, but no diagnostics that i ran have been able to find any issues...

Ideas?

No matter how many times I reformate, it still showing Blue Screen, indicating STOP 0x00000116 and atikmpag.sys error. Subsequently, I went into the BIOS and changed the settings on the graphics switchable to discrete graphics. However its getting worst now because there is no display (totally black with no background light) every time I on my y460. Hence I need assistance and solutions, thanks.

Hello.

Just today, I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : \windows\system32\config\system."

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...

Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks very much for your help.

A:Blue screen of death, boot problems, black screen startup

It's a nasty error that requires some persistance and resourcefullness to overcome without a clean install.

If you have a Windows CD or have the recovery console installed, you might want to have a go at these directions.

Hi thanks startup, death Black at Solved: all blue with began screen screen a of for checking Solved: Black screen of death at startup, all began with a blue screen my question I haven t found an answer to my particular situation Dell xps m laptop w vista It all started with a blue screen w scrolling text after the fated restart The blue screen text said quot if this is the first time you ve seen this message quot and then comp restarted again showing the blue screen then restarted into windows repair mode after repair mode tried to fix Solved: Black screen of death at startup, all began with a blue screen the problem comp restarted then the screen went black blank right after the little windows loading animation where the bar keeps moving from left to right and there s a small windows logo It all happened fast so there may have been steps I forgot but that s the jist of it Now screen always goes black blank during startup after the windows loading animation so I can t start windows in normal mode I can start in safe mode if I manually force shutdown by holding the power button so I m not imploding with fear ok I am Possible causes This occured right after installing vista updates that restart was when I saw the blue screen Also occured the restart after running a patch called quot Vista TCP IP and UAC AutoPatch quot I downloaded it from softpedia the developer was listed as defcon and their website listed was securevista net but the site is down I found this out after the problem occured The patch had lots of positive reviews and lots of people on other sites also suggest using it to remove the limit of tcp connections which windows unnecessarily imposes Removing the limit supposedly increases P P filesharing speeds so it s a common approach to slow utorrent problems etc to patch the tcp sys file I have since quot unpatched quot it using the unpatch file which came with it but I m suspicious of the software developer now The patch originally disabled UAC user account control which is suspicious to me but I m not highly tech savy so I dunno if that s common or not I did also remove mcafee s security center I was busy I guess that was a mistake should always restart after each big change I apologize for the complication this creates in identifying the problem It s possible I did something else before the fatal restart if none of these three could be the culprit then I ll think harder about what that could be but for now these changes stand out in my mind I m assuming that windows repair mode s changes didn t cause this problem but I don t have any factual reason to believe that What could this be What can I do Thank you p s This is the last time I ever install software from a company that doesn t have an active website even if this wasn t the problem s cause nbsp

Previously it showed Blue Screen every time I boot my Y460; few seconds after the Window Logo.

I received the following error message when I attempted to restart my computer:

C0000218 Unknown Hard Error

When I restarted after the blue screen it went into a check disk but would not finish the scan.

I have tried to start the computer in safe mode with internet connection and after a few minutes the screen goes black. I've tried to start it using last known configuration and the screen goes black. Everything I try ~ the screen goes black.

Help!!!!

A:Blue screen & now won't start in safe mode, screen goes black

I'm writing from my husband's laptop because my desktop is completely dead.

We were out of town for several days and when we returned my desktop was running very slow so I attempted to restart it. It locked up, I pressed/held the power button and when it restarted it attempted to run a disk check. The disk check locked up and I had to press/hold the power button again. When it restarted I got a blue screen ~ stop: C0000218 unknown hard error.

Sometimes when I attempt to restart it I get: checking file system on C:
file system = NTFS

When I attempt to restart it in safe mode, safe mode with networking or starting in last known good configuration I get . . .

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows\appPatch\drvmain.sdb
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows\system32\drivers\ . . . (various items)

Now it won't start, not even in safe mode. Everything I try ~ I just get a black screen.

** I just tried to restart AGAIN and it ran disk scan, said it had completed disk scan and would restart, the screen went black when it attempted to restart and the screen is still black and it won't restart.

What can I do to get my computer back?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

My screen came up the other day blue and saying it was checking disk and that volume was dirty. now the screen is black. computer acts like it is coming up but just sits there. Is there anything I can do?

A:blue screen, ckdisk, volume dirty, now black screen

First, backup your data using a bootable disk (such as a Live Linux or Ultimate Boot CD)
If the scan didn't fix the drive (if the drive is still marked as "dirty") then you'll most likely have to format the drive (and will lose everything if you haven't backed it up).
Then start with these free diagnostics (before formatting the drive):

Quote:

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Resources (read the details at the link)

This can happen at any time for me (including when I was re-installing windows in an attempt to fix the problem... did not go well ) but more often than not happens during web-browsing and especially when watching youtube vids. I'm going to assume it has something to do with my graphics card as the blue screen does not actually come up... instead the screen goes black and then I have to restart the computer. Anyways upon boot up and log in I get a windows message that tells me that windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown ect.. and the numbers are:

Have you activated your Win 7?

Fully and completely update your Win7. Afterwards, I'll be asking you to submit a file which will show me all of the installed updates.

The update procedure will take qute a period of time since you do not have SP1 installed. This means there are updates to get you up to SP1 and then there about 100 updates post-SP1.

UPDATING YOUR WIN 7
1. ASSURE THAT YOU RECEIVE ALL UPDATES
WIN | type WINDOWS UPDATE | ENTER |
Change settings (left-hand column) |
checkmark all four of the boxes | OK button

Approve any dialog boxes presented. Let Windows install any update features.

WIN is the key with the Microsoft flag on top.

2. INSTALL CRITICAL UPDATES
Check for Updates (left-hand column)
Install ALL critical updates.
Restart your computer (even if not prompted)

Repeat this procedure until there are no more critical updates.

DO NOT TRUST the ?Windows is up to date? in center of dialog. until you see that TWICE IN A ROW!

3. INSTALL IMPORTANT UPDATES
Use the ?critical update? procedure until all important updates are installed.

4. INSTALL OPTIONAL UPDATES
Under Optional updates you will be presented with:
a) Microsoft Bing Desktop which is of questionable value
b) a list of about 34 language updates.

You can hide those updates so that aren't continually notified of those updates.
When you click on 34+ optional updates are available, then you
a) highlight all of the language updates,
b) right-click anywhere in the highlighted list.
c) click on Hide Updates,
d) OK button.
Install ALL other Optional Updates.
Use the ?critical update? procedure.

UPDATE GOLDEN RULES
Install ALL, yes, ALL updates.
This is Win 7 and not Vista or XP (eXPired).

UPDATE IS HUNG ?TAKING FOREVER
Hung is very doubtful unless you interrupted updates.

CTRL + SHIFT + ESC key combo will pop-up the Task Manager.
Lo and behold, Windows Update is still running!

You hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys.
While holding them down, tap the ESC key once.

Good Morning,

For the past several months I have been having problems with my HP desktop computer. When my system reboots I sometimes get a black screen with nothing on it or it gets stuck on the windows logo or I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.

The blue screen tends to happen with the computer goes into hibernation. So I changed my settings to that it doesn't happen but I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.

I have checked for malware, viruses you name it... nothing.

HP HPE-180t
Windows 7 SP1
Intel core i7 930 @2.80GHz

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013

If you need further info please let me know. ;)
ps I had wonderful support several years ago regarding my laptop.. thank you once again :)

I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.

The best way to do this is to simply turn it off; it will also save on the electricty bills too.
When I am not using my machine, I turn it off, because here in South Australia we have the second highest electricity charges in the world.

I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.

Can you tell us what the blue screen says; usually this is due to a recent hardware or software change; however, in your instance it might be the Hibernation feature that is malfunctioning.
Post back with the information about the blue screen, please.

New to the thread.... not sure if i'm posting right, soo correct me if u want =)
Anyway.. yesterday I turned my computer on and got the screen "Sorry for the convenience blah blah blah... Start Windows Normally, Safe Mode...ect.
I chose Start Windows Normally, which did indeed start windows normally, but I wasn't sure what caused this problem in the first place, so i ignored it. I turned my computer off.

Later i turned my computer back on and was confronted by another screen, this time a Blue screen.. A Stop error, can't exactly remember the error, but said something about "memory dump'...
I eventually got avoided a problem with this screen and got into windows.. However this morning, when i turn the computer on, I was forced to use 'Last Known Good Configuration"

Whats going on? I did scans on Norton, Adaware & Spybot.

Please help!!

A:Blue Screen, Black Screen??? Stop Error Code?

Hi Kirstie, computers are great when they work huh? These stop errors and blue screens of death can have many causes. Sometimes they occur when a computer is getting older and some piece of hardware is going bad, like a memory stick for instance. Other times these errors occur after installing a new program or doing a windows update. They can be quite difficult to pin down sometimes as well. I would be glad to help you find the cause of the error if you will answer a few questions for me. By answering these questions I should be able to determine the cause and help you to correct it.

Here are some questions for you to answer that will help me. Just answer them the best you can and if you dont know an answer its ok. If you already answered anything I'm asking in your first post just skip over it.

1). What kind of computer do you have? Laptop? Desktop? Dell, HP, Ect?

Hi ShanShan,

First of all I am No Expert (disclaimer) but may be I can be of some help.

If the laptop was working fine for years and then out of nowhere went berserk ... that is kind of odd ... but I suppose it can happen ... I am assuming you left the laptop "On" while you were gone ... if it was showing a Black Screen when you came back ... now you might have gotten a power surge of some sort ...

Or may be a Bios glitch which I read somewhere awhile ago ... so do the following ...

1) Remove the battery and disconnect the power cord from the Laptop.
2) Press the power button for a few Second (While Battery Out and Cord Off from the Laptop).
3) Connect the power cord First. Press the power button to start and THEN dock the battery.

Did this fix your problem ... if so, you are good to go ... if not then ...

1) Try to reboot into "Safe Mode" ... on my laptop when I restart it I Tap repeatedly on F8 key till the Safe Screen pops up ... then choose "Fix My PC" or "Repair My PC" the minimum option and let it do it's thing ...

If you got a Normal Start-up ... then you are good so far ...

So, do a Normal Restart ... and see if your laptop comes up Normal ... if so, you are out of Hot water ... if not repeat Step 1 till you get to Normal Windows ... then

2) Go to System Restore ... and see when was your Automatic System Restore Point ... Tick "SHOW Older Ones" too and see which one you want to Revert back to that date ...

Do a restart normal again, if fixed then you are good.

I added couple of Disk Check links below since your brother suspects a Hard Drive Issue ... run those to make sure your HD is OK ...

How to Check Your Hard Drive for Errors in Windows Vista - For Dummies

Check your hard disk for errors

The How-To Geek Guide to Using Check Disk in Windows 7 or Vista

If none of these Solve your problem then probably you have to do a Clean "Recovery Startup" basically it will Clean wipe your laptop to Original Factory Setup ... I assume HP has a Recovery Partition ... like Partition D ... like in my Gateway ... it reinstalls Fresh from there ...

Post back your results.

G!

My xp pro compuer is turing off and going to a black screen with a flashing underscore. I am able to manually turn it off and back on again. This started two days ago and has down this four times total now. It seems to be happening sooner and sooner. we use this computer as a media server for extenders around the house. any ideas what is wrong? while on, I check the temperatures and the s.m.a.r.t. on the harddrives and everything is checking out ok. the cpu temp is a little high (50-60 C). But this cpu has always ran this hot.

this thread was moved to a different forum. So I'm just bumping it to the top so people have a chance to read it. update on status is the computer turns to the black screen as mentioned before. it can't even get into windows completely now without doing it.

For the past few days my computer goes crazy at random times each day. I've searched everywhere for other problems similar to mines with no success. I downloaded malwarebytes, scanned with zero threats found and the same with norton.  I recorded it as it was happening so you could get a better understanding of what was going on. I thought it was a remote viewer but it happens when the internet is diconnected also.

Hi michelletaylor, welcome to SevenForums !
This might seem silly but I have exactly the same problem with my laptop. I'm stuck at the page right after the manufacturer logo, the white line blinking page. One thing you can try is see if everything is alright in the BIOS settings by pressing F2 in the first page. You can also try pressing F12 or the key to access the boot options. Try to run a diagnostic scan. If it asks for an extended scan, say yes, it should take about 1h to complete and this might find problems. You can also try pressing F8 to access different options to boot your computer (like safe mode), but for me, it doesn't work. I would like to help you more but I have the same problem. Hope you'll be able to make it work and have a nice day. MrDub

When power resumed, powered my machines back up. 2 out of 3 did OK. The third goes immediately to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper corner.
Have already:
1 removed and reseated the power and data cables from the hard drive
2 removed and reseated the RAM modules
3 tried pressing every F key on the keyboard
4 Cntl-Alt-Delete doesn't work either
5 tried on another monitor.
Don't even get to Windows splash screen or able to get to Safe Mode.

My laptop is flickering a black screen, or holds a black screen in place when high contrast videos and images are visible to large parts of the screen (or at least that's what I've gathered). Although I've found ways of working around this temporarily, it's not very sustainable. For the record, I've tried methods mentioned in many forums but haven't had much success. I would love for some advice please. Thank you so much in advance!

Hello. When my dell inspirion 560 boots up it brings me to a black screen with a flashing underscore. It never lets windowd 7 boot up. I tried using a windows repair disc but I gets error 0X4001100200001012 and I Have no idea what that means. It happened when I woke up and saw I fell asleep with the computer on. When I tried movimg the mousr to take it off sleep mode I got not response. So I turned it off. Looking back it was probably a dumb mistake. Any ideas on how to fix? I really hope its not the hard drive..

A:black screen with flashing underscore

Which Windows repair disc did you use and what option did you select?

Start the PC and press F8 as soon as you see something on the screen, keep pressing F8 once per second until you see an alternate boot menu which should have the option to "Repair..."

Launch the Repair PC option and see if restoring a recovery point or performing startup repair will fix the issue.

Hello.
As you can probably tell I'm facing a somewhat common problem in the world of Windows computers; when I turn my computer on, it goes to a black screen with a flashing underscore/cursor. At first I thought myq problem was that I accidentally left my external hard drive plugged in, so I immediately unplugged it and rebooted my computer, however the problem persisted. I have a Dell 530S running Windows Vista Home Basic. I've read about putting in your boot disks but unfortunately, I do not have one. Any ideas of how I can fix my problem? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

A:Black screen, flashing underscore

If you can, get into the computers bios and check the boot devices order. Make sure that the internal hard drive is the first boot device. Also make sure that the bios detects the internal hard drive. If you don't see it, the boot drive could be dying or corrupt

I encountered this problem two days ago while using my computer (hp pavilion elite) and it sht off on it's own. I tried to restart and it won't boot windows. Just a black screen with a flashing cursor at the top. I searched all over these forums and haven't found a solution that works. So far I have done a restore point, tried to reinstall windows from a recovery disk, I've used command prompt to Fix the boot record. Diagnostics says my hard drive is fine and I can see the newly installed windows 7 on my hard drive via the recovery disk boot. But when I try to boot from hard drive it still goes black. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Or if there is any fix possible. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

McAfee was saying that it had gotten rid of a trojan and that I had to restart. I restarted, but when my computer booted up again, I just got a black screen with the flashing underscore. I turn on the tower, then the monitor comes on. At that point I'm on the Dell logo screen where it has those F2 and F12 options. After a few seconds it just goes to that black screen. I've even tried doing that F8 thing for safe mode. Nothing happened. Is there any way to fix this? Any way to prevent it from happening again?

C'mon, guys... PLEASE, help me. I don't know what to do anymore. I tried startup repair, system restore and system image recovery. Please. I don't know what I'm doing or what I'm supposed to do. I just really, really need your help. I'm begging you guys here. There must be some sort of solution for this. I can't even reinstall windows because of some compatibility problem. I was going to try custom installation, but I have no idea what I'm doing so I'm not going to mess around with that. But can you please, please, please help me? I'm completely lost now.

Hi Leminhh! Insert your Windows 7 Disk and see if you get an option to boot from CD/DVD. If not go into BIOS (F12 at Acer screen) and look for Boot Order and put Optical Drive or CD Drive first. Then SAVE and reboot.

When you can boot into the Windows 7 DVD, follow these instructions to do a Startup Repair. Startup Repair

If it doesn't work first time, try it three times. If it still doesn't work, please post back with what happens.

I have youtubed my face off and scanned these forums trying to find something comparable to what is going on- but all I can find are many people complaining of a flickering screen problem associated with likely underlying driver errors What is happening Screen Problem Black Flashing for me is the entire screen flashes between black whatever was Black Flashing Screen Problem on my screen before If I click the Black Flashing Screen Problem mouse or Black Flashing Screen Problem tap on the touch screen- it returns to the regular screen for a moment and then starts flashing again Sometimes this lasts for - minutes other times its - seconds This has been happening since upgrading to windows - and I thought it stopped after the November update but it has just started up again Twice now the quot flash attack quot has stopped by the entire computer shutting down completely accompanied by a tiny single pop or click sound The device is a Lenovo Yoga Pro I have read all the other quot black screen quot posts and not found anything similar Thanks for any advice as to how to troubleshoot this Update Today times now several minutes after separate rounds of black screen flashing while I'm working the screen on the left side gets a pixilated shadow and color gets off and the screen seems to scoot to the right or quick beats and then it returns to normal screen view

A:Black Flashing Screen Problem

I am seeing a similar black flashing screen problem on a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 3rd gen 20BSCT01WW.

This seems to have started after the Win 10 Threshold 2 update. My problem is so far limited to my primary (only) external monitor flashing to a black screen and returning a few seconds later. This only happens intermittently.
The Asus VX238H Display is connected via DVI out from a Lenovo OneLink Pro dock to the HDMI in of the monitor with a DVI to HDMI cable. I haven't experimented looking for the problem on the laptop screen itself since 99% of my use case is connected via dock to external monitors.

Below possibly worth investigating though the problem description is different. I definitely got a recent Synaptics driver update.

blackscreen after windows10 pro build 1511 update - Lenovo Community
...
I was able to isolate the cause of our black screen issues as the Synaptics driver for the touchpad. Uninstalling the Synaptics software instantly corrects our issue. Reinstalling it brings it back. I've tried the latest drivers from Lenovo (19.0.17.22) and the latest from Synaptics (19.0.19.1) and all produced the black screen.

the monitor keeps flashing with a black screen, with intervals of about 5 s - 5 min. the pc has been working fine for several years, although it is a bit slow recently. it is mostly used for internet/emails.

-in windows safe mode, the same flashing occurs.
-there were some virus/malware, detected with avast/mbam. they have been removed, but monitor still keeps flashing
-when the monitor was connected to a laptop, there was no flashing at all, it run fine for some hours. so problem seems not the be the monitor?

i dont know much about the pc info:
*pc is about 3 years old.
*integrated intel motherboard/videocard

I read the posting instructions but it's a little difficult for me to run that program because my computer won't actually display anything But here's what I Blue no BIOS, screen after no display Black Screen, can answer OS - Win bit Original OS - Vista Home Premium October OS is retail upgrade Hard Drive has been in use since October everything else is less than hours old I haven't reinstalled the OS CPU - Intel Core i k Videocard - BFG nVidia GeFroce GTX GB MoBo - ASUS P H -M PSU - Corsair GS W A on v if that's relevant Corsair GB DDR Black screen after Blue Screen, no BIOS, no display MHz RAM x GB Don't know about system manufacturer they're different parts The Case is by NZXT and the TB HDD is by Seagate This is going to be a bit of a long read so I'll start off by giving the short version of all this Here's the short version I built this PC yesterday and it was working but couldn't 't display the native x resolution I got quot Out of Range quot error Black screen after Blue Screen, no BIOS, no display on my monitor when I tried to change it to any other resolution I installed an nVidia control program and made a custom resolution of x About half an hour later I got a blue screen Now when I start it up I just get a black screen no error messages just a black screen It isn't just my own monitor I've tried it with another fully functioning one too And more detail here It was all working alright when I first set it up but I couldn't get native resolution for my LG W monitor x which displayed the resolution just fine on my old PC with no dedicated GPU When I changed the resolution through the Windows resolution change interface tool it wouldn't give me the option of going over x something else I can't remember I tried to change the refresh rate but I got the same error when I tried to increase the resolution as when I tried to change the refresh rate quot Out of Range quot and then it said a frequency in kHz and Hz I downloaded the nVidia control panel and made a custom resolution x and it was all fine after that However the first problem I noticed was I could not run the game Civilization V because upon starting the game up I got the same quot Out of Range quot error message from my monitor I even tried to change the compatibility so that I could let it run at the lower resolution x or something like that but I got the same error message That was pretty much the only problem although I'm sure I would have encountered similar problems if I tried to play similar games I was using the computer for about half an hour and whilst I was on facebook I just got a blue screen It stayed there for a couple seconds then I turned it off from the main socket When I started it up again I just got a black screen I didn't even get a BIOS display I've been trying it all morning and it still hasn't been working Also after I've turned it on from the main socket upon startup it starts up then shuts down then starts up again then down and finally stays on after a couple moments of this Still displaying nothing on the monitor though and I get no quot Out of Range quot error message just a black screen I have no idea what it may be I have tried erasing the CMOS thing by moving the jumper position on the motherboard and removing and reinstalling the battery but that hasn't seemed to have worked I don't know what else to do Thanks a lot in advance I know it's a long read

A:Black screen after Blue Screen, no BIOS, no display

Can you boot into Safe Mode?
Does the system display the Asus splash screen before going to the black screen?

Have you checked to see if the video card has power (the extra power plugs in most cards these days)? Have you checked to make sure the fan is working, and that the video cooler isn't clogged up?

Have you tried another video card? I'd suspect that the video card or it's drivers are your issue. If the system boots into Safe Mode, then I'd suspect the drivers, if it doesn't boot into Safe Mode (so you can see the display) - then I'd have to assume that it's the video card.

See if you can return the video card. If not, then see if you can borrow one from another computer - or buy one that you can return if it's not needed.

Good luck!

Hello

I have a computer running Windows 7. Last night the computer was running fine. This morning when I turn it on, i get a black screen. To fix the problem I conducted a system restore. After it finished restoring, the computer restarts and everything worked fine. To make sure if everything was in working order, I restart it again. After the "Starting Windows" screens comes up, I get the Blue Screen of Death. I can't even read what the error says because the computer just restarts itself. I did not connect anything new to the computer. I performed a hardware diagnostics to see if it was a hardware failure but no error was found. I can't even get into safe mode. The SFC.exe will be my next step.

The SFC.exe did not work either.

A:How do I fix windows blue screen of death and black screen

Update, seems that some tweaking did fix the problem, go to search and type power, in the left click on the one that says change what power buttons do, then uncheck the box that it says turn on fast startup (recomended) then save changes and a restart and youre done -at least for me it worked-

A:windows splash to black screen now blue screen

I would think that your first priority, assuming that your data is safe, is to obtain a means of reinstalling/repairing XP. I mean, that would be my first priority if I intended to run a system with XP on it and I did not believe that the system would run perfectly until I decided to retire/sell/junk it.

So my first suggestion would have been...contact Dell and inquire about recovery/restore CDs for your system.

As for your apparent option of taking it to a shop...that won't resolve the fact that you have no install disks of any type.

I've not ever seen an XP sticker that doesn't indicate which flavor of the O/S is installed.

Since you are having a graphics issue in both the BIOS startup screen and while Windows is open, it does sound like a graphics card problem and not a driver problem. Do you have another graphics card to substitute for test purposes?

Hi, I know that a similar topic has been covered before - but not exactly like this one.
I am trying to back-up my Windows XP Pro with a Click-Free C6. but after the Click-free initializes and then begins searching for my programmes, after 1 minute I get an unreadable flashing blue screen and the Click Free stops and my comp reboots. My comp has been on a 'go slow' for a long time, but then it is old. Thus the reason for backing up is to save my music and photos mainly, to install into a new comp running 8.1 I must admit to being lazy as the last time I backed-up was 10 months ago, and the Click-free worked fine then. I haven't added or removed anything from XP so I'm totally at a loss. Sorry, not a young comp geek. Please help. Many thanks, in advance.

I have a Dell desktop computer with Vista installed. I bought it 2/2009. In July 2010, I went to get on the computer, and apparently it restarted for some reason but all I had was a black screen with a flashing cursor. I called Dell and they had me turn off the computer, unplug all external hardware plus the ether net cord. Then I unplugged the power cord from the back and pressed the power button for 10 seconds. Then I plugged the cord back in, powered it up, and it worked. The only problem is that every time it reboots, that is exactly what I have to do. Is there any way to fix this permanently???

A:After restart, black screen and flashing cursor...

holding the button down with no power is to discharge the energy on the main board and power supply, don't think it does anything else, is your system well grounded? if so then it could be a hardware problem, but Dell techs would know best

If you are brave and want to take a shot in the dark you could try a factory reset. On startup screen with the Dell logo , hold down Ctrl key, and at the same time tap F11 over and over. If you are quick then next screen will be a blue screen which will prompt you and ask if you wish to continue with factory reset. Click yes and continue ...

Hi, new to the forum.

I'm working on a dell inspiron 1525 for a friend. It came with vista but it was loaded with virus's. I formatted the hard drive and am now trying to install windows 7. The problem is that Everything that I am trying in just going straight to a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left corner. I have done some research on this problem but none of the comments were from new installs. Vista was working fine except for being slow so i'm not thinking anything hardware related.

I've tried booting from cd, flash drive....and its all doing the exact same thing.

Any help would be great. Thanks

A:Black screen with flashing cursor when booting W7

First run the Dell Diagnostics from boot to test the hardware: Dell Diagnostics Utility - How to Run the . If they run then I would try to keep the Dell OEM Diagnostics partition - at Step 7 of Clean Install Windows 7 delete all partitions but it. Recovery will no longer run after reinstall so delete it too.

Use the installer provided in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 burned to DVD or written to flash stick using tool in Step 2. Unplug all other HD's and peripherals, Boot the installer by tapping the F12 key at boot to choose boot device. If you get a flashing cursor it is not booting the device.

If problem persists Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. (If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.) Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failures.

Nothing but Black screen (fan, leds work) after flashing the latest bios...

Is there anything I can do, or just new bios/motherboard can help? (I tried resting the battery, F8 key..) Thanks in advance

A:Black Screen after flashing the latest BIOS

I presume BIOS is screwed up. What you need is professional help with this so contact nearest service provider and ask for help.

By the way: check this forum using advanced search option. In the past I saw several interesting threads about BIOS recovering. I?m pretty sceptic about it but maybe you will be lucky and find solution.

I have since learnt my problem is OS related I have started another thread in OS section Can this be deleted Hello Apologies for the long post I hope this is in the right area and that someone might know what is wrong with my card I recently bought a PC from Zoostorm and I ve been happy with it so far as it s such an upgrade from the last one I had I was also pleased that it contained an ATI card as I d had a few problems with Nvidia in the past But recently things haven t been going so good and no matter how many searches I do I can t seem to find someone with the same problem as me I m running a and from what I ve Flashing Loss Screen and Black Cursor read on it it appears to be particularly buggy but I m praying somewhere out there is a solution It would be such a shame to have to change it as it s less than a month old I play a lot of WoW and I ve experienced two freezes I m not sure if the music is still playing as I never have it on anyway and I didn t think at the time to check if it was affected I couldn t tab out so had to reboot both times Cursor Loss and Flashing Black Screen Another problem I ve had appears to be connected to tabbing out of the game and may be set off by my character being AFK for a few minutes I ll suddenly discover my cursor has disappeared and I ll tab out hoping to correct the issue only to find my desktop has been replaced with a black screen but several menus can be seen opening and closing namely the start menu My tab bar will be at the top of the screen I can click on the start icon but nothing happens I ve only ever been able to ctrl alt del twice and have had to shut off WoW in the process screen All other times I ve had to reset my computer This problem has also occurred outside of WoW once I literally came back from the bathroom to find a black screen and have no idea what set it off I had come out of a game a while before but had been happily browing the web before the problem occurred I intially thought that it might be a heat problem as I remember an Nvidia card suffering some weird graphical glitches that were caused by heat but this doesn t seem to be the problem I downloaded a little vista gadget that monitors my card and have been watching it closely It never rises above C and I ve only ever seen its fan come on once I m at a loss at to what to do I do have a I could replace it with but I m guessing I d forfeit my warranty by replacing a part I ve tried updating drivers but everything seems to be fine and I m currently running Catalyst which I think is the latest If anyone has any idea or even if someone has experienced the same problem I d love to hear it Any help at all would be greatly appreciated nbsp

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

What you are experiencing can be hard to fix, but it could well be the hard drive has gone to the big computer in the sky.

This link may offer some insight, but I have to say it doesn't look promising.

I have an HP Pavillion dv6000, running with Windows Vista Home Premium.

When I turn on the computer, the HP intro screen turns on but then immediately goes Black with a white flashing dash in the top left screen. I can not access F8, safe mode, etc. I can only access the basic set up menu.

I never received a restore, or a Windows XP disc. Ive come to terms with the fact that I will most likely would lose my files and am willing to do a restore, but I can not get onto the log on screen. Do i need to see a tech? Please be advised I am not tech savvy and just want to get back on to my computer

Any help/links/disc downloads would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
