Preferred Solution: Windows 7 64bit crashes when gaming, seemingly to ATI's drivers fault

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Could you please upload the dmps for analysis?

You can try uninstalling your video card drivers and installing a fresh copy. Install only the drivers, not the Catalyst suite.

I had to do a system recovery a week ago. Ever since then computer constantly Freezes and Crashes.
HP Pavillion Slimline s5713w, with Windows 7 Home Premium x64, SP-1.
Went to System Info: many Drivers are listed as "critical"
Went to Windows Error reporting: many "Fault bucket" (including: blue screen, AppCrash)
I think I need to wipe the whole thing out and start over???
Any help would be appreciated.

A:64bit gaming crashes

Ummm... I think COD WAW has some 64 bit issues. I can't run it but my friends can (they use 32 bit). I would not however dump 64 bit just because of games. 64 bit has so many other advantages.

A:Win7 64bit - Crashes after installing video card drivers

Are there Windows 7 drivers available for that video card? A driver is a piece of software, if it doesn't interact with the hardware or OS correctly it will crash the system. Take the RMA if they are offering one.

I have been using windows 8 for months now... with 0 BSOD but now I get them as often as every 30 minutes, and as sparse as whole days. I re-installed the OS and ran checks on my GPU/ Primary Disc, and RAM with 0 errors. I've attached some of my crash dumps as well. Any advice on what could be the issue would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi all,

I have a problem is with a reasonably new core i5 computer running windows 7

Crashes started a few weeks ago. Nothing had changed - no new hardware or software installed. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the crashes - I can be doing anything when it happens

Could not work out what was causing problem so I re-installed Windows 7 home premium 64 and ran updates, applied service packs and installed drivers.

Crashes continued (no BSOD - just crash and minidumps)

I have also replaced power supply to no avail

Have run memtest 68+ for 6 full passes and no errors.

Would be very grateful to get on the right track with this - sending me around the bend.

Cheers for any help

A:Seemingly random crashes - re-installed windows 7

Welcome to SevenForums.

Can you tell us how the *desktop work in safe mode?

I have checked your dumps and all come with different bug checks but nothing specific. One of the dumps usual causes:

Quote:
STOP 0x0000007F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Usual causes: Memory corruption, Hardware (memory in particular), Overclocking failure, Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, 3rd party firewall, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack

Your best shot would be to take it back to the vendor/store you got it from, check and see what they have to say.

I'm building a new gaming pc and I wonder if it's worth getting windows 7. I'm using XP 32bit now.

These are my new pc specs:
MB: Asus P6x58D
CPU: Intel Core i7 930 Quad Core 2.8GHz
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 480
RAM: Corsair DDr3 3x2GB
HDD: WD Caviar Black 500GB
PSU: Corsair 850-TX

Is win 7 noticeably faster/better in performance? I've heard it gives a lot of problems with old games, but with a 32bit OS I'm capped to 4 GB of memory.

Your thoughts?

A:Windows 7 64bit & gaming

Hi -

Windows 7 is leaner and faster than Vista; some say Windows 7 about even with XP or that XP is faster. Join the future - Windows 7; Windows 8 on the horizon. XP's time is counting down. The 2008 XP SP3 is the last service pack - no SP4.

x86 games will always be capped at 4 GB RAM even under x64 OS. x86 apps follow x86 rules.

I keep on getting 'random' bsods with windows seven.

I have no idea what's doing it, is there any way to test without removing hardware because that would be a real pain.

It just seems to be a random occurrence and has happened more than once when I wasn't at the PC inputting or outputting data, simply idle.

Any ideas?

A:Seemingly random BSOD W7 64bit

Wouldn't let me edit;

I have a custom built i7 system on Windows 7 and it's been fine for quite a while now but it seems that I am getting BSODs at random now and I have no idea what to do about it because I don't know what could be causing it...

Here's the event viewer logg. I have the minidump files but have no idea how to make sense of them.

Also, how can I capture the screen image next time it occurs if these logs aren't enough?

I built the wife a computer she would use primarily for her facebook/pintrest nonsense as well as Sims/WoW/Diablo3 and whatever else she chooses to play. From day one she has been getting random BSODs. Sometimes weeks in between, sometimes multiple times a day. Lately it has been multiple times every day (last 4 or 5 days). So here I am asking for help.
Specs
CPU: amd phenom II 965black
MB : ASUS m5A97 LE R2.0
Ram: Patriot Viper (2x4)
SSD: Patriot Pyro 120gb
HDD: WD Blue 1TB
GPU: Radeon HD 5750
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I have attached the DM log collector zip, there are multiple dump files, but i believe the most relevant one will be from 10/23/2014, but i could be wrong.

thanks for taking a look! look forward to some feedback

A:seemingly random bsod, more often when gaming (WoW)

h47f4c3, welcome to Seven Forums. I will see if I can help. You have 5 dump files. one recently, the others are at least 3 months old and one is dated 12/31/07. What's that about? Windows 7 was released to the public in 2009.

the only recent dump was 10-23-14 and it says

Code:
asmtxhci
start end module name

That is the ASmedis USB 3.0 driver. look on the motherboard's web site and see if there is a more recent version. if not, you can try ASMedia Technology Inc. ????

When finished with that

Open a elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Hello I'm at when seemingly gaming BSOD random, at mostly my wits end here trying to figure out what has been going on with my PC I got a BSOD once months and months ago only the one time can't even remember BSOD seemingly at random, mostly when gaming what I was doing when it happened as it never happened again Then after the BSOD seemingly at random, mostly when gaming new SimCity shipped I started getting them about minutes or so into playing though sometimes I could go upwards of an hour before it happened I thought it was just the game itself as a lot of people were having problems with it But it never stopped happening and now is happening with other games to even when I'm just updating a game and not actively playing it I started paying attention to the temps and it hasn't hit anything to where it seems to be overheating I've run FurMark and nothing bad did a full Memtest and no problems several virus scans and such to be sure and I can't find anything I've updating all the drivers I could think of and checked to make sure I seemed to have the latest drivers for each of them According to BlueScreenView this is being caused by ntoskrnl exe but I've read that's just something it tends to blame when it doesn't really know what IS actually causing it It isn't something that happens all the time just whenever I try to play the new SimCity or just here and there randomly in other games or when updating them I hope you guys can help

A:BSOD seemingly at random, mostly when gaming

Sorry guys, wasn't thinking, quick run-down of the system specs. It's an Acer Aspire M3470G with an AMD A6-3620 APU quad-core processor. I've upped the default RAM to 8GB and installed an AMD Radeon HD 7700 card. Running on the Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS. I also upgraded the factory power supply to a Rosewill 700W. Also of note, these problems started before I had upgraded any of the factory parts, so I don't think it's been due to any of them.

Hi there, I've got a problem that I just can't seem to fix, so I figured it was time to ask for help. I've recently replaced my HD, RAM, and motherboard and when I play World of Warcraft, randomly the screen will lock up and eventually lead me to a BSOD. I believe I've updated all of the drivers, but I've noticed the BSOD's have a couple different messages.

Here are the dump files I was able to find. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

A:Seemingly random BSOD during gaming

4 memory dumps generated from 10 Feb 10 to 27 Feb 10:
1 STOP 0x1A - more info here: BSOD Index
3 STOP 0x7A - more info here: BSOD Index
The first one blames ntkrpamp.exe - but has NTFS.SYS involvement in the stack text
The second one blames fileinfo.sys - but also has NTFS.SYS involvement in the stack text
The third one has an error that translates to: Device not connected
The fourth one has an error that translates to: No such device

So, we're most likely looking at a hardware error here - and the most likely devices are the hard drive and memory. Please try these free, bootable diagnostics to test those components:

HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Malware (read the details at the link)

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

Quote:
How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

A:[SOLVED] Seemingly random restarts - gaming.

Couldn't find the edit button, sorry.

I updated my mobo bios, installed the GPU driver from Asus' website (version 327.23) and the pc ran fine for a couple of hours. Sadly, the problem then reared it's ugly head once more, and I'm back at square one, with the exception that FurMark now also tends to cause crashes.

I have a new pc, but I keep on having errors and crashes with it.

This Thursday I installed Windows 7 and Office 2010 (both legal versions) and then some drivers and software (Steam). I rebooted and it al worked fine. On Friday morning the system could not start Windows and I had to perform a system restore, back to the point after I installed Windows and Office.

I reinstalled my software on Friday and rebooted a few times. Everything worked fine, but on Saturday morning it was the same as the morning before. Today I reinstalled again en rebooted throughout the day. But now my pc randomly shuts down. It happened 3 times and al 3 times while I was in a game (2xred alert 3 and 1x duels of the planeswalkers).

OS: Win 7 Ultimate (64 bit) (full retail)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945/ 3 GHz
Motherboard: MSI 770-G45
Graphics Card: Club 3d HD5770

Any help is more than welcome!

This crash was caused by memory corruption. I do also note that there is something wrong with this image. Most (almost all) files have no time or date stamp, the version number isnt what win 7 final should be

To test your memory

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Hi -

The bugchecks -

0x6b (0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0) - process initialization failed - system uptime = 6 seconds

0x1a (0x41287,,,) = memory management error - s/u = 43 min

Both named the NT kernel as the probable cause

I know system is new, but did you run memtest86+ yet?

Given new install, I would wipe the HDD with killdisk and re-install Windows 7 again.

KillDisk - [email protected] Kill Disk. Hard Drives Eraser. Free Download.

Make bootable KillDisk ISO CD w/ ImgBurn - The Official ImgBurn Website

Is Windows 7 the first OS to run on the system?

Hi, this is my first time posting so I hope I've provided enough info/zipped the right stuff.

My PC has begun crashing (last few days) quite often and seemingly at random. It can crash 3 times in 15minutes or not at all in 3 hours. I used it for undemanding gaming, browsing and office apps.

It's a 2.5 year old Acer Aspire X3812 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I think I've zipped the BSOD Dump & System File Collection right but I wasn't able to do a System Health Report due to the error "an error occurred while attempting to generate the report" (I tried changing stuff in services but no luck).

I don't know if it's enough of the error code but the BSOD showed something like 0x0000001E.

Attachment 214518

A:Seemingly Random (gaming, browsing, desktop) BSOD

The only .dmp file was corrupted and therefore inconclusive. This could indicate hard disk corruption, bad sectors, a failing hard disk, Windows files or registry corruption, viruses, or memory problems. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log (you may need to search for wininit instead of chkdsk).
For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

Run the short and long tests with SeaTools for HDDs.SeaTools for Windows

SeaTools for DOS
If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, uninstall it in device manager and see if the system performs better.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.

Download and install Malwarebytes, update it, do not start the free trial, and then run a full scan. Also run a full scan with your antivirus software installed on your system. If you do not have antivirus software installed, see the Good and Free system security combination. for better security steps and scanning tools. Make sure to update the security software before running the full scan.

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

For some reason , my computer restarts without notice , just seems to lose power all of a sudden, then it will start up again..

This generally happens when CPU usage is at 90+%
some games that have been doing this are

ApB Reloaded <<(lowest settings as well)
Nba 2k11
Thanks in advance.

A:Computer seemingly loses power during gaming sessions

How old is the computer? Sounds like heat. Is your computer used in dusty conditions? Have you ever cleaned out the dust from inside. The fans, vents and don't forget the psu. Use compressed air to clean as a vacuum will create a static charge which can kill your machine. Ctrl Alt Delete, Taskmanager and look under Performance while game is running and look in Processes to see what's being used.

A:Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit Explorer.exe Crashes sometimes...

Hi,

would this be of any help?

"How to Fix Explorer.exe Crashing in Windows 7 x64

Explorer.exe is known to keep crashing in Windows 7 x64. Fortunately, it's really easy to fix it. The problem is that explorer.exe is located in the SysWOW64 directory, but Windows looks for it in Windows\System32. Since there is no explorer.exe there, it keeps crashing. To fix this all you need to do is copy (not move!) explorer.exe from the SysWOW64 folder and paste it into the Windows\System32 folder. That should eliminate the crashes."

Hi all,

I want to update the drivers for my GTX260 graphics card.
I downloaded the appropriate driver for my OS, Vista Home premium 64 bit (OEM):
Driver: 182.06_geforce_winvista_64bit_english_whgl.
But when I try to run the driver application I get the following error:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.Check your computer's system information to see wether you need an x86(32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact your software publisher".

I have the same problem with 64bit NVidia networkcontrollers.

Is this a known problem or am I doing something wrong?

thanks

stefan

System: Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz, 8GB RAM, Geforce GTX260, Asus P5N-D (nForce 750ichipset)
Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 (OEM)

A:Unable to install 64bit NVidia drivers on Vista 64bit

I was just wondering if this could be just an installer problem.
The filesize of 182.06_geforce_winvista_64bit_english_whql is just 22kb.
I noticed on another site (64bit and x64) they have a download of the same driver that is a 100 MB.

Is anyone familiar with start64.com? Can I safely download the NVidia drivers
from there?

And do I really need to install 64bit versions of the driver or can I just as well install the 32 bit version of the same driver (even though my OS is 64 bit) ???

Any help would be much appreciated!

stefan

Hi,

The attached DMP file is of the SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b)bug check.

This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.

This error has been linked to excessive paged pool usage and may occur due to user-mode graphics drivers crossing over and passing bad data to the kernel code.

This has been happening for about a week now I ve been trying things and just can t get it to random Please crashes: Help!? Seemingly stop My computer seemingly at random restarts itself When Windows XP comes back up I get the box quot The system has recovered from a serious error Seemingly random crashes: Please Help!? quot I click Send Error Report It says something about not knowing what the specific problem is but that it could be because of a device driver When searching on a search engine with my symptoms the common theme for the problem seems to be device drivers as well So that was what I tried to fix I updated my sound and video card drivers I downloaded software Driver Genius which suggests driver upgrades and upgraded all the suggestions I ve gone into control panel and turned off audio hardware acceleration Nothing works The restarts can happen when I m watching video and surfing the web it always happens at least once while I m sleeping and the computer is doing essentially nothing It isn t a temp issue because SpeedFan tells me my comp temperature at all times and as mentioned it will restart in the middle of the night when nothing is happening I read on another forum about how using minidump files can help figure out the problem but I don t know what that is Can anyone help me Can you suggest what I can try next Can you direct me to some information I can give that will help you help me Thanks for any advice

A:Seemingly random crashes: Please Help!?

A device driver can be the current version and still be corrupted. There are many, many device drivers on your system - and finding the right one can be a challenge. And sometimes you can reinstall the correct one - and still not fix it (because some drivers leave traces behind when they're uninstalled). So that's where the minidump files (they are one form of a memory dump file) come in handy. An analysis of them may help - but the exact description of the error message will help also. If you don't have it handy don't worry - it's stored in the memory dump files. So, let's move onto the analysis of the memory dump files. Here's a draft of how to analyze them. It may seem intimidating, but just follow through it step-by-step and it'll work out for you. If you've got any questions, just post back and ask - and we'll answer them the best that we can.INTRODUCTION: A memory dump is what happens when Windows crashes. The memory is dumped into the pagefile and saved for the next reboot. Once Windows reboots, it reclaims the memory dump data from the pagefile and saves it to a file (usually ending in .dmp). Analyzing these dump files can help to figure out what's causing your system to crash. While they don't offer a "sure" fix, they provide clues to the cause of the crash so that we can work on fixing them. In my experience most system crashes are caused by faulty/corrupted drivers, malware, or hardware failures (in that order).Step 1: The first thing to do when your system crashes is to reboot - that'll save the memory dump file so it's able to be accessed. Windows may ask permission to send the file for online analysis. I would suggest always allowing it to be sent. Most times you won't get anything back, but occasionally it'll point out the problem and will save you a lot of work. Also, quite often the first crash is also the only crash (as Windows will fix the problem when it reboots) - so there's no need to worry unless the crashes repeat themselves. If you can't get into Windows (either in normal or Safe Mode), then just post straight to the appopriate forum and we'll work from there.Windows Vista: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/72/windows-vista/Windows XP: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/56/windows-xp-home-and-professional/Windows 2000: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/83/windows-nt200020032008/Step 2: The next thing to do is to ensure that you're free of malware. Malware can get onto your system and corrupt your installed protection (and can cause system crashes), so I'd suggest you perform one of the free, online scans at this link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blogs/usas...?showentry=1252Step 3: Once that's over with, search your hard drive for files ending in .dmp There are several types that Windows saves:1) A complete memory dump or a kernel memory dump - usually saved in the C:\Windows directory and named MEMORY.DMP2) A small memory dump (AKA "minidump") - usually saved in the C:\Windows\Minidump directory. These are named Miniwwxxyy-zz.dmp - where the ww is the number of the month, the xx is the number of the day, the yy is the number of the year, and the zz is the number of the crash dump that day (ie: Mini070108-03.dmp is the 3rd minidump generated on July 1, 2008)On some systems the directories where the dump files are stored are protected by being identified as Hidden and System files. To show Hidden and System files in Windows Explorer, go to Start...All Programs...Accessories...Windows Explorer. - Once opened, select the Tools...File Options menu item (in Vista you may have to press and hold the "Alt" key to view this menu). - Then go to the View tab and check the box to "Show Hidden Files and Folders", and also uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files". - You will get a dialog that asks you if you're sure you want to do this - click on "Yes" to allow the change - Then click OK to the prompts to exit the dialog and you'll be able to view these hidden ... Hey
Recently i got my hands on a titanfall beta-key and to play i had to have a 64bit system. I asked my friend to help me with the upgrade and everything went fine untill my pc started randmly crashing with Memory_management as the most common message. i've had a few others too but mainly this one. I don't understand that my pc keeps crashing because before with my win7 32bit there was never no issue.
I tried doing this debug tool thing but it says access denied and the cmd window that opens also says WIN32 so did something go wrong with the installation of win 8 or what?
I'm not a technical genius so i apologize for the lack of computer terms

Have a quick look through this, the OP has done the same as you have and needed W7 drivers. The PC model is different but it uses the same motherboard so your motherboard drivers should be available through the links posted.

Hi everyone I am new here, and this is my first post.

I just installed Win.7 Ultimate on my laptop which is

DELL XPS L501x

When the install was finished, my laptop had no drivers. So USB won't work, wireless won't work, graphics card etc

I got on the DELL site to download drivers but I could only download individual drivers, I burnt them to disc and tried to install them but it wouldn't work.

I'm not too computer savvy and was hoping someone could explain how to resolve this issue to me.

Much appreciated.

A:Windows 7 Ult. 64bit. No drivers No Internet

Hi 70Fairmont,

Welcome to the TSF! :)

I don't think it's possible for Windows to install with no drivers. Could you please check your device manager. Right click "My Computer" -> select "manage" -> select "device manager". Do you see any yellow exclamation marks or red crosses?

You may not have a few (including the ethernet) but not none.

Hey guys, new to the site and figured I'd say what up!
Also have a question...

I have been using Omega drivers for a while now.
Recently built a new PC and am running the Windows XP 64bit O/S..
I am using the ATI Radeon 9800pro 128 Video Card with the 64bit drivers.
I loved the Omega drivers because it had a sweet overclocking utility built in.

Does anyone know if the Omega Drivers will work with my new 64bit XP opperating system?
I emailed omega but haven't got a response back and I can't find anywhere on the Omega site that has any info regaurding this issue.
And/or is there a stand alone overclocker that I can use if not? What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

A:Omega Drivers for Windows XP 64bit....

Never mind I figured it out. But for those of you interesed ATI has a 64 bit driver for it's cards and "Radlinker" has a stand alone over clocking utility available also for the 64 bit OS.
Although still in testing phase it worked well for me. Went from stock settings of 105fps (using the CS-Source Stress Test) to slightly over clocking and getting 118avg fps in the same stress test.
I left the Radlinker link at home but just Google "Radlinker" and it's the very first link that pops up.
Hope this helps..

I recently reformatted my hard-drive and reinstalled Windows XP. Since then I've had blue screens all over the place, and I've tried to fix it, but there seems to be a different cause each time!

I'm guessing it's to do with outdated or faulty drivers, or failing memory, but I admit that I don't really know how to read these things.

Antivirus seems to aggravate the situation, and has been temporarily disable to provide some temporary semblance of stability.

Included are the past three days' worth of minidumps, which I don't completely understand.

A:Seemingly random and unconnected crashes

What sequence of steps did you use to format the hard drive and do a clean reinstall of Windows XP and get that computer up-and-running?

--------------------------------------------------------

Did you use an actual original Windows XP CD, or did you use a recovery disc kit?

--------------------------------------------------------

Assuming that's a name brand computer, what's the brand name, model name, and model number?

--------------------------------------------------------

Go into the Device Manager.

What's listed in these headings?

Display Adapters

IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers

Network Adapters

Other Devices (if this heading exists)

Sound Video And Game Controllers

Hey all!

Windows 7 x32 Ultimate retail, installed during new component install 8 months ago.
Running an AMD x4 on an Asus motherboard, about 8 months old now with 4 GB ram.

Windows explorer will crash randomly, sometimes just browsing a folder, or viewing pictures, or zipping up a debug file to send here (ironically)

It will mention no antivirus installed, as I recently uninstalled it thinking it might help. I have run full antivirus scans, malwarebyte scans and am proficient with autoruns and general troubleshooting techniques. Any help is appreciated.

The systeminfo.txt relates this:

I feel that in recent weeks, my computer would randomly lock up on me followed by it restarting.  Been thinking that it is a possible hardware or driver issue, but I need some assistance in finding out the source.  This is a five year old system, although the hard drive is very recent (Seagate 2TB SSHD ST2000DX001) and has a clean Windows 10 installation.

Looking at Event Viewer gives me the Kernel-Power 41 error and also mentioned a HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error.  It has been the case for previous crashes.

This is a new system running Windows 8.1. I have been having seemingly random BSOD and crashes. I disconnected a 2T USB backup drive and BSODs have slowed, but not disappeared. BSODs happen most often when waking the system, which seems to take far longer than it should. Error message vary. The most recent was a System Service Exception IRQ_Not_Less_or_Equal. I've done all I can think of.

A:Seemingly random BSOD & crashes

You have 4 hard drives. What is the age of your Power Supply?

Please remove the Western Digital software. The wdcsam64.sys driver dates from 2008 and is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

Please uninstall Gigabyte EasySaver (it's driver is gdrv.sys and it's known to cause BSOD's).

If this doesn't help out, then start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Out of 8 memory dumps there were 5 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers) - and older systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Also, just in case, if the BSOD's continue - please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Launchy would appear to overlap a bit with the Start->Search feature built in to Windows 7, so there could be a conflict (?).

And otherwise I'd personally suspect compatibility with Firefox and its plugins is low on MS's priority list.

Suppose it could be the 65 bit Nvidia drivers though.

UPDATE:

Loading from DVD version of Linux Mint, OpenSuSE and Fedora all show a good working keyboard, touchpad and USB ports, so it must be Windows 10 conundrum.... So proceding to "refresh" windows 10 using recovery options, saving documents.

Says - "This operation may take a few minutes to complete, depending on the size of the data stored in user folders.  Please make sure you connect to AC power before continuing"...  Hope it does not take forever to do this, but may be only choice.

UPDATE 2:  The process for refreshing windows 10 took 15 minutes from start to finish, now is "Installing Drivers" and preparing your desktop.

UPDATE 3:  The resotre completed successfully, in 40 minutes from start to login on Windows.  The keyboard and touchpad are back (sort of) so it was a seriously flawed update to the Elan drivers that caused the issue.  I know that the Lenovo / Elan drivers version 11 will work, supplying two finger scroll options and such, so will see if they will install correctly.

Within the last few weeks I've been having my computer either BSODs or completely crashes, resulting in a scrambled screen and looping audio until I restart the machine. I wasn't able to see the message in the BSOD screen in the few times it actually did show up, but this has been happening multiple times.

It's happened right when I was turning the computer off, when I'm in the middle of playing games (TF2, Terraria), it's happened when I'm just browsing the internet.

Starting this morning I heard my computer restarting itself over and over, it would get to where it says "Starting Windows" except the background was black with what looks like colons and periods all over in rows, and then it would blue screen and restart. I could load into safe mode and do whatever I wanted. Ran AVG, found nothing. I went to click on Computer to check something and the screen turned white. After a hard restart everything worked fine. A few hours later I opened Photoshop and was creating an image when I clicked the font button and everything froze. The colors got weird and purple lines appeared on the wallpaper and PShop, then it blue screened. I have all the dump files (I've been looking around on here ) and will attach them to this post. Thanks in advance for any help

I been having a problem with seemingly random BSODs and crashes (ie where the computer forcibly restarts without generating a dump file). I think the crashes happens more frequently when surfing the Internet, especially while watching Youtube videos, but that might be a wrongful perception on my part.

The motherboard is a Asus P7P55D, the hard drive is OCZ SSD Agility 3 120GB. I think the rest of the system info s included in the zip-file.

Hi

I have upgraded my NB550D to Windows7 Home Premium and installed 4Gb RAM.
It's working much better but want to go further and do a _clean install_ of Windows7 Ultimate _64bit_ in order to take full advantage of theupgrade in RAM.

My question is: What do I do about the Toshiba drivers for 64bit? I presume i will need some?

What is the best way to go about the upgrade - any help will be appreciated! :D

A:NB550D - Best way to install Win 7 64bit and 64bit drivers

If you would switch to Win 7 64bit then you will need some Win 7 64bit drivers.
On the Toshiba European driver page I could find some 64bit drivers but it looks like not all Toshiba tools for Win 7 64bit are released.

Drivers for WLan or BT stack can be found here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/

All other drivers or Toshiba tools like value added package or Face Recognition, Eco Utility and others could be used from other notebook series? for example Satellite C660D or other series like L750D, L755D or C670D
Surely you have to pay attention to the built in graphic chip, LAN or chipset?
Use the drivers which are released for the chips in NB550D

Hi

http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8-message/

Here you can find the *Toshiba Compatibility Matrix*
It contains the list of all notebook series which are Win 8 upgrade supported.
If your notebook isn?t listed, then this means that Win 8 is not supported and drivers are not (will not be) available.

Please try the Mediatek Ralink Wireless driver from the following weblink:ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61501-62000/sp61776.exe If the issue persists, please follow these steps:1. In the Run box type devmgmt.msc.2. Unknown devices would be listed as such and marked out with a yellow question mark.3. Select the unknown device or other device for which you need drivers and right click to access Properties.4. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  or Hardware ID from the drop down.5. An alphanumeric string like this PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_01\4&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device.6. A:Windows 7 lags for a couple of seconds and crashes often while gaming

The two most logical causes are dying hard drive and underpowered psu further degrading. It would be the easiest to run checkdisk/r on the drive to check it.
If it fails to complete, repairs many bad sectors, or simply takes forever it probably needs replacement.
Using Windows 7, how do I run CHKDSK? - Microsoft Community
The psu probably needs replacement anyway and to buy a tester of decent quality is at least 1/2 the price of a new psu anyway.

Hi there,

I installed Win7 RC 7100 on my gaming rig a couple of months ago. All was well until I got to the Logitech Gaming drivers for my Rumblepad 2 and Force Feedback Racing Wheel. Using Vista x64 drivers my system crashed repeatedly (cant recall exact error message)

The logitech website says that most Vista drivers will not have any issues with Win7, however I am a little apprehensive about reformatting if the problem occurs again.

My questions are:

1. Is anybody else having the same probs?
2. Is there a solution to this?(apart from not installing Win7)

I really liked the the look and feel of Win7 however not being able to use game controllers on my gaming rig sort of defeats the purpose.

Thanks in advance.

So basically my system is crashing at seemingly random points games desktop programs anytime even though the BSOD Crashes, Colour. System No Seemingly just Random system appears to be ok I've updated all drivers ran memtest even ran prime Seemingly Random System Crashes, No BSOD just Colour. was oc'ing recently but the crashes were happening before that and everything checks out My rig is as follows Windows ProAsus Crosshair V Formula latest bios gb Seemingly Random System Crashes, No BSOD just Colour. CMX GX M A C XMS x GB running at mhz AMD HD AMD FX oc'd to ghz x OCZ Agility 's in Raid This crash has happened a few times before the overclock as well as after previous to installing upgraded from the overclock was running stable for nearly months I rarely go over c and have been able to run prime for long periods of time during testing it without problems as I said the crash happens at stock speeds too So in short I don't think its related to the OC I have windows set to a minidump but when the crash happens I don't get the BSOD screen but rather just a screen in a random colour Tearing my hair out trying to figure out the problem any help would be appreciated Attached the zip of Grab All from the diag tool Thanks Dave

A:Seemingly Random System Crashes, No BSOD just Colour.

While the crash may not be related to the overclock, there's no telling what the overclock does to the test results - so please remove any overclock while we're testing. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

This screams VIDEO to me:

I have windows set to a minidump but when the crash happens I don't get the BSOD screen but rather just a screen in a random colour.

Start with the video stress tests here (and do the other diagnostics just in case - feel free to skip memtest and Prime95 as you've run them already): Hardware Diagnostics

Please remove HotSpotShield - it is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

You have more than 3 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [S] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/S] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disk-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install it immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Numerous signs that this is a hardware issue - but FYI, these same issues can be caused by low-level drivers, so we have to watch out for both things. Try these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Interestingly, a couple of BSOD's in the WER section of MSINFO32 blame your USB 3.0 drivers - I'd suggest updating/replacing them. (As there's outdated Silicone Labs USB stuff installed - I'd also wonder about that)/.

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.

Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hello,
My computer has been suffering from BSOD crashes for about a year now. The crashes are pretty varied, but the most common ones are :
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION-0x0000003B-atikmdag.sys;
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA-0x00000050-atikmdag.sys;(sometimes it doesn't say atikmdag.sys)
0x0000001E-atikmdag.sys;
0xA0000001 (rare);
These crashes seem random because they happen whenever. Sometimes when I'm playing a game, sometimes when I'm watching a movie or video and sometimes when I'm not doing anything at all!
I've tried replacing my ATI drivers and it hasn't changed a thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems while I am gaming I occasionally get a BSOD, its always a Page Fault error. I attached the required files:

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes, although Linux is also installed as a dual-boot on a separate HDD
- an OEM or full retail version? full retail version
- What is the age of system (hardware)? 7 months
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 7 months

A:BSOD (Page Fault when gaming)

You may notice that it says their is no Anti-Virus that is due to my removing AVG before I did the scan, Windows Security Essentials is now installed.

Hi, I recently clean upgraded my Xp to Windows 7. I did a clean sintall and am slowly installing everything from scratch.

When I downloaded AVG free, it wouldn't configure the files, it just stalled.

I went with Avira, who have never failed me in the past and it installed and downloaded files without any hassles, lucky.

Since then I've downloaded the latest patch for my evga gtx 285 and the driver just stall when it says "installing files". I downloaded the 64bit patch.

The same thing has happened when I downloaded iTunes 64bit. The thing just stalls when it looks as though ti's completing installation.

Any ideas? Thanks

HF.

IMO, the suggested fixes for the TDR timeout of the video card only conceals the problem - it doesn't fix it.If the card is timing out, then fixing the cause of the timeout is preferable (IMO) to just lengthening the timeout. Unfortunately it appears that the system has pirated software. Please get a legitimate copy installed and we'll be glad to help. Here's suggestions on how to ensure that your version is legitimate:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/genuinePlease be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.As a courtesy, I will offer an analysis of your issues using the reports you provided.I will not answer any questions about the analysis until the system is made legitimate. If you do make it legitimate, please submit a new set of reports for us to check.Just FYI, sometimes the owner won't know about this.  So here's 2 scenarios that might ring a bell:- if they had a "friend" help with the computer - and the "friend" installed a pirated copy.- or they used a copy that they had from another OEM computer.  The OEM license is tied to the hardware that it came from - so you can't just use it on another system (that means that it's pirated). And here's the analysis:Only 263 Windows Update hotfixes installed.  Most systems with SP1 have 350-400 or more.  Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all). The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating. Many more Live Kernel Events than BSOD events in the WER section of the MSINFO32 report. This is suggestive of a hardware problem (this isn't a 100% diagnosis - rather it's an increased likelihood of a hardware problem).Regardless, it's enough to suggest doing hardware diagnostics.  Please start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html Out of 21 memory dumps there were 8 different BSOD  (aka STOP or BugCheck) error codes.  The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things (the list is not in any sort of order):- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.- dirt/dust/hair/fur/crud inside the case.  Blow out the case/vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or vacuum as they can cause damage to the system)- missing Windows Updates- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems- low-level driver problems- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html or http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html ).Please get a head start on the hardware diagnostics - they are located here:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.htmlAMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center.  This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems. NOTE:  these symptoms were from the previous release of OverDrive.  The new release uses the same driver name, but is dated from 4 November 2013. Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program. Please note that I stated "video stuff", as some integrated processors may have the graphics chip built in (which may involve the chipse... Hello,

My computer has since for as long as I remember experiencing bsod crashes at varying frequencies. I have previously searched for online help for this twice, but without any success. The error messages in on bsod vary a lot, but I think all that information is in the attached file. And I don't think there's much more to say about it.

Whenever I try to install my (legit) copy of Windows 7 64bit a screen comes up and says no drivers can be found with the installation drivers. I am installing a new copy of Windows because I got a new motherboard (asus p7h55-m/csm). I have been searching around and people have been saying to turn off the on-board IDE setting to disabled but that just impairs my dvd-drive and doesn't let me use the disk because it's disabled..

A:Fresh windows home premium 64bit install, important drivers are gone!

I'd go to Samsung support site with your good PC and locate the Ethernet driver for your particular model. Get it on a USB stick and install it to the PC with the driver problems.

I wouldn't be in a panic just because I had some yellow exclamation points in Device Manager. Instead, I'd investigate what expected functionality is missing.

Then possibly go back to Samsung and look for drivers to fix the missing functionality.

So I've been having terrible BSOD issues with a lot of different stop codes. Too lazy to work out the problem, I try a fresh install, just video drivers, nothing else. Works pretty well until this page fault error pops up. I have no idea how to read the dumps or anything, I'm pretty newb at this, so a point in the right direction would be appreciated. If I posted terribly just tell me how and I'll fix it.

So the dumps are not providing enough information.

My suggestions to you ....

► Update Network driver. It is very old.

Code:
Name [00000007] Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\rt64win7.sys (7.2.1125.2008, 183.00 KB (187,392 bytes), 10/06/2009 1:35 PM)
update the network driver.
First, download the network card driver from manufactuer's website, Realtek
Then reinstall the driver:
Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Menu Search box and press Enter.
Double click to expand "Network adaptors".
Right click your network card and click Uninstall.
Check "Delete driver software for this device" check box, click OK.
Restart the computer
If windows does not auto configure the appropriate drivers at startup, install the downloaded one manually.
► Update the display driver.

Code:
Name AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\atikmpag.sys (8.14.1.6278, 449.50 KB (460,288 bytes), 27/09/2012 6:12 PM)
Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

► If it still Crashes, Enable Driver Verifier.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Hello everyone,

I searched around the forums and found a relevant thread but it said to open a new one since it had been 417 days since last posted on. I'm having trouble with my Acer laptop not being able to use my wireless network adapter. I've looked for the correct drivers but can not seem to find a site that isn't just trying to get me to download a driver medic of driver fix app. If someone can provide me with a link or direct me in the right direction i would appreciate it.
