ThinkPad T410 100000b8 BSODs

Q: ThinkPad T410 100000b8 BSODs

About two weeks ago, I began getting BSODs on a 9 month old ThinkPad T410 running Win Professional 7x64, OEM. This is the original install of the OS, and there have been no recent hardware changes. Prior to this issue, the machine has performed without any failures.

Today's failure happened quite spontaneously (or so it seemed to me) while the ThinkPad was sitting unattended and unused for about 15 minutes.

Thanks very much for your assistance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Lenovo's VP of Design, David Hill, wants to create a new ThinkPad laptop that is heavily inspired by the old-school designs of popular ThinkPad laptops from the IBM era, stretching as far back as 1992.

A:Lenovo design chief wants to build a retro-styled ThinkPad laptop

I used to use one of those old IBM Thinkpad laptops at around that time and I thought it was the coolest thing ever even if it was terribly slow, weighed almost a ton, had a crappy pixelated display (~2ppi it seemed) and was about a metre thick. I loved it.

Hello everyone,
One fine evening while watching a movie, my laptop stopped responding and in frustration I switched off the laptop by holding the power button long enough to turn off. Next Morning it showed a blue screen and a message to recover my windows, which I failed to do and by the afternoon this message showed up. Detection Error on HDD0 (main HDD) and hence forth I've been unable to install windows from a USB drive since ( and I suppose) it is not able to read my HDD. I do not care about my data at all, I just want my laptop up and running. If I can have the data back it will be perfect otherwise I don't mind not getting my data back. I know for a fact that my Hard disk is fine because I went into command prompt, diskpart , and list disk, and saw the status of HDD as healthy, this is after the error (detection error on HDD). SO my question is: Why this error? IS there a problem in the motherboard? Why the error shows once and then doesn't show the next time and then comes up again.

A:2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD); Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga

The error might be bad sectors, but I'm not sure. if my guessing is correct, you might have to get a new drive to replace. also you need to reinstall OS

Found an old works LT and am trying to rebuild it clean. Its an IBM thinkpad. There is no CD/DVD though I have one that plugs into the USB and a clean version of XP

1st problem it won't boot and stops, reporting error 0271 chk date and time settings followed by a screen with a padlock. Obviously this means I need a password but I don't know it and the company has gone away so can't ask.

I can get to boot set up by cntl+s but it won't let me change any of the settings.

The Access IBM button doesn't work either and stops at the above error.

I suspect that buying a new HD won't help, how can I change the bios settings back to manufacturers default.

IBM Thinkpad Series I 1200 (1161). Replaced the NiMH battery with Lithium Ion. Replaced the AC cord. When I look at Power Options, it says my battery is 3% charged. Won't run on either battery. Won't charge either battery. Will run with battery in or out. Ran fine many months ago with NiMH battery. Didn't use it for many months. Now the above problems. Any suggestions?

I have been wanting to purchase the Thinkpad x120e, but I'm not sure if now is a good time, since it was released almost a year ago, and it is the first of it's kind to sport the new AMD e350 processor. I don't know if Lenovo plans on upgrading this soon (since it's been almost a year) and if it would be better to wait for the next gen of this class of non-netbook netbooks. I would like your input on this issue and what you predict for future releases. Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I've been considering getting a Lenovo Thinkapd X120e to replace my old laptop. Need a lightweight laptop with good battery life for my classes. After looking over a couple reviews, I noted a sizable difference in what was reported for the laptop's temperatures. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the X120e getting "too hot"?

FYI: I won't be stressing the laptop much, mostly note-taking using Word or PowerPoint. Also some web surfing, video watching, or very light gaming if the class is particularly dull.

Specs: Planning on upgrading to the 1.6 GHz E-350, 320 GB 7200 rpm HDD, 4 GB of DDR3-1333, and 6-cell battery. Laptop comes with Windows 7 Pro, and I plan to add Ubuntu to it.

Any comments would be great, thanks!

A:Lenovo Thinkpad X120e temperatures

Excellent choice in a Netbook especially with what you want to do; your upgrades are right on. I personally don't have one (but am leaning towards purchasing one in early 2012) but I am also a member of Notebookreview.com (NBR) and there are many people there who own this system. Check out the Lenovo forum at NBR.

Also, check out TechSpot's own reviews of laptops/netbooks. We give it high marks as well and after doing my own research I have found Lenovo has the best build with the E-350.

i cant get into the bios

First thing I would test is the hard drive, but as you cannot get into the Bios to change the boot order you will have to remove the drive and link it up to a desktop PC using a "Laptop Hard Drive Adapter". Then you can download the diagnostics for Windows from the manufacturers site listed below.

Have you tried to boot from the OS disc? Do you have Recovery Discs?

Hi,

I'm having a spot of bother with my thinkpad t40 and soundmax. I'm trying to have a line-in into the microphone-in port to record directly through a studio mixer but for some reason it's still recording through the voice mic on the laptop itself. I would have thought it would automatically cancel out the voice mic when you plug something in the mic-in port, like when you plug in headphones to something, it negates the sound from the speakers..

Is there any way to accomplish what I'm trying to. I have the soundmax drivers installed but also have installed the asio4all drivers as I have studio software on the laptop too..

I'm running xp pro btw..

I am presently researching to purchase a laptop for my wife at Christmas who is a teacher thus she will need to access the internet, do Office work, grading, emails, research, etc., but no gaming at all.

Will be running 7 64 OS, with 4 gigs of RAM, and hopefully a 7200 rpm hd. Leaning towards the i5 processor.

The Thinkpad Edge is part of Lenovo's excellent T Series but somewhat less expensive. Looking at current configurations it seems it will deliver what I am looking for but I know nothing of the quality build.

Would love to hear back from people who have used this series and/or from ITs who repair laptops for their insights.

Thanks!

A:Lines on IBM Thinkpad T42 screen

since it's a laptop i want to say the GPU is overheating (very common) or the screen itself is going bad, unless BIOS or POST screen is clear of artifacts. you can try uninstalling the current display drivers first and then installing the latest set. if that doesn't help with the artifacting you could very well be looking at faulty video memory and thus it may be new time for a new laptop. 5 years is a decent lifespan...

Finally got it to boot up and received ...071 cmos battery bad message....070 real time clock error...and memory good message.

So would the cmos be causing the machine to not boot?

The main battery is reading fully charged.

I thought I saw a 1411 service manual somewhere online in order to locate the cmos.
Anyone know the online location of this manual. (possibly at Lenovo?)

Once a cmos is installed can I just start the computer as normal or do I have to go into bios and do something before that happens?

Thanks

They don't like a lot of dust, lint and fibre in the colling channels...
The usual cause of the signs and symptoms you describe is a bad hard drive, or abad power socket.

Hi all, I have a thinkpad 1411 i series from 1998. A workhorse. I always use the machine plugged in. Original battery.

Was getting a battery bad/drive OK message, then I would hit enter and it would boot up.

Now will not boot at all.

Can't it work with just the plug or do I have to buy another battery?

I just use it for a word processor and family photos now. but I like it for that. I have a dell dual core /quad for the web.

Shouldn't it work with just the plug, I don't get it?

Thanks for advice

A:IBM Thinkpad 1411 i series battery bad message won't boot

Not all notebooks will work without a battery. I have a Toshiba A70, and had issues a while back which I thought was the battery, so I tried running without it. Try taking the battery out and see if it starts. Keep in mind that it's a good idea to cycle batteries in notebooks even if they are always plugged in, they should be discharged maybe once a month or so.
Your particular error seems to be coming from the CMOS, maybe you can look at that, considering its been 11 years, maybe its due for a change.

A while back user quot raybay quot posted some thinkpad r51 on Replacing backlight/inverter guidance on replacing the backlight and or inverter on an ibm thinkpad r notebook Here is a quote Inverter That is a very high price for an inverter for an R but the R is a very rare computer so you may have to pay it you need a very Replacing backlight/inverter on thinkpad r51 good quality hard steel philips Replacing backlight/inverter on thinkpad r51 screw driver great care in removing and replacing the screw covers and the time it takes to remove and replace screws But the inverter just plugs in Mark all your screws as you remove them as they are not all the same length or diameter But the most important function is removing the screw hole covers so you can use them again You will benefit from a very very thin flat blade Replacing backlight/inverter on thinkpad r51 screw driver or other tool to lift the screw covers out and off You will need a nice adhesive that remains soft when you replace them It is very rare for an inverter to go out in that model What I m wondering is this sounds like instructions for replacing just the inverter but what if my problem is with my backlight as well or instead Apparently they can also be replaced but I ve read suggestions that this may involve soldering If you are lurking raybay do you know specifically what is required to replace the backlight on this model nbsp

A:Replacing backlight/inverter on thinkpad r51

You can get the inverter, new, on eBay for $9.95 on up to $20... DO NOT BUY A USED ONE, and DO NOT BUY ONE FOR A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT MODEL. It is the screen that determines the model number... and that inverter/backlight is part of that particular model number.
Your inverter and your backlight are basically the same thing the failure of one affects the other... or they are in the same device depending on the laptop.
None of the IBM Lenovo units need soldering... but you have to remove about 20 screws, and remove the rubberized screw covers... so making it pretty again when you are done is the hard part... as you have to learn how to reapply the screw covers and the rubberized stickum.
USE VERY GOOD, VERY TOUGH TOOLS. DO NOT USE TOOLS that wear easily. Cheap toosl will mar the screws and ruin stuff.
First you buy the backlight.
Second, remove the keyboard.
Third, you remove the screw covers with a very thin device like a 1/2 or #1 flat screw driver, only with thinner metal... and some tweezers to lift off and store the screw covers which are mostly very thin, round flat rubber disks.
You need some soft of bowl or series of cups where you can put the different size screws. You need to keep a chart of which size screws come from where... Unless you have a good mind for those sorts of things and nobody does.
You may find it easier to remove the back of the computer where the screen is kept... and CAREFULLY remove the ribbon cable for the screen that plugs in beneath the keyboard.
Keep in mind that after a laptop has aged a year or two, the plastics become very brittle and easily shatter.
Take your time. Force nothing.
When you have all the screws out, the screen will come apart from the case.
Then at the bottom of the screen you will find a device about the size of a ball point pen or maybe even thinner.
You remove that device by unplugging, it, then insert the new one.
Be sure it is stable. We use a bit of masking tape or electrical tape to hold it in place.
Then put everything back together using the longest screws first.
You can leave it ugly at first, then put your screw covers on last. You may have to order new ones if you screwed things up.
When you are done, you will wish you had taken more time and done a better job, but it is too late now.
It wills work fine, but if it belongs to your girlfriend or ex wife, you may want to hide out..

I ran memtest over night with no errors, the crashes are all different I have reseated ram, removed one stick and tried in both slots then removed that stick and tried the other in both slots with the same results. nothing over clocked cleaned my case out reseated vid card and made sure all cables were snug I'm out of ideas short of buying new parts. I have no known goods to fall back on because this is my first pci-e rig. thanks

A:Random bsods, I upped minidumps and my belarc profile

I did not have time to sift through all your information... very complete! Thanks!
I did note, you are running XP SP3

Some of your Errors are summarized below... Suggestions at the bottom.

KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)

This is a very common bugcheck.

BAD_POOL_HEADER (19)

The pool is already corrupt at the time of the current request. This may or may not be due to the caller. The internal pool links must be walked to figure out a possible cause of the problem, and then special pool applied to the suspect tags or the driver verifier to a suspect driver.
DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: DRIVER_FAULT
PROCESS_NAME: pidgin.exeClick to expand...

One of your faulting processes is lotroclient.exe - a game... resource intensive.
One of your faulting processes was an IM client.
One was sr.sys ... which is system restore.
Other pointers are not very helpful (yet).

You say that
1. MEMTEST tested good.
2. nothing over clocked

Have you considered the possibility of Malware/Virus?
If you think this could be a possibility, then check...http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic58138.html.
Be sure to follow all the steps carefully.

I only looked at the most recent dumps.
Route44 or others may have additional suggestions, if I overlooked something, or if they find something in other dumps...
I will try to come back and look at this further sometime tomorrow.

Next Day - Further Review of Hardware / Software Report (Belarc)
I notice that you do have Spybot, but I am not seeing your Firewall or AV software.
These are crucial pieces for maintaining a healthy system when connected to the Web.
Unfortunately I see you are also running a Torrent (Filesharing) package. This software will open a hole through your firewall, and leave you fully exposed to whatever nasities are running on those with whom you are sharing files. This means that Filesharing programs introduce a constant threat to your security and stability. Please look at other threads here on Filesharing...

Because you are running torrent software, I would strongly recommend the 8 steps, (link noted above).
Especially since I do not see your av or firewall listed in the Belarc report.

So after a long time of not posting, and still trying to figure out my BSOD's:
KERNEL STACK INPAGE ERROR
KERNEL DATA INPAGE ERROR 0X0000007A
and
A PROCESS OR CRUCIAL THREAD HAS BEEN ELIMINATED 0X0000004F

I have...
Ran several memtests (passed all multiple times)
Replaced my Corsair XMS RAM (Both 1gb sticks) (Thank you lifetime warranty)
Tried to find the errors in event viewer after almost every BSOD (no luck :[ )
Just about took a sledge hammer to my PC (usually twice a week)
And think it is perhaps a problem between my mobo (ASUS M2N SLI Deluxe), and my processor (AMD AM2 2200+)
If anyone has any ideas or knows of any other ways to narrow down BSOD error message origins, posting them would be fantastically helpful to me, thanks a ton.

Hi all,

I have an end user with a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 that cannot locate the wireless network we have set up in our office. "No wireless networks were found in range" is the message we get when trying to locate our network using the Wireless Network Connection utility. I checked Device Manager to see if his wireless card (Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG) was disabled or not functioning properly, but it is working fine. All the required drivers are also installed.

The router we use at the office is a Linksys WRT160N V3. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this problem?

A:Wireless problems with Lenovo Thinkpad T61

First, welcome to TechSpot, good to have you here. I?m somewhat new myself, so I?m still figuring things out. Now, I know this may be elementary for you, but here?s a link to the Windows Vista networking help page: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/88ea056e-664a-4c3d-b977-13f79cb4dedb1033.mspx.

I?m not terribly familiar with the T61 (worked mostly with 43s). Does it have a physical WiFi on/off switch? Sometimes those can be the culprits.

Cheers,

Dear all external to How monitor to LCD (IBM ThinkPad connect laptop R50e)? A:How to connect external LCD monitor to laptop (IBM ThinkPad R50e)?

You just need to push the plug in securely (even tighten the thumb screws, if it has any)
Then turn on

It should default to the external, straight away
If not use the Fn+F7 keys as you said (note: I haven't downloaded your manual to confirm this)

By the way, the monitor works normally, and all, doesn't it ?

Ok, this is confusing to me, I have a wireless network with two computers connected to it, I bought a laptop IBM Thinkpad 1300i series with a built in wireless adapter, the IBM wireless LAN client says I am connected to the network, it reads the mac address from the wireless router and shows the same amount of channels as the other computers, but under network and dial up connections it shows the adapter as unplugged. I ran winsockfix but it did not help, then I installed Wireless Network Ignition 2 and it showed that it could not find a wireless connection? Any advice would be gratefull.

If you are connected to the network can you ping another PC? Or ping something on the internet (www.google.com)?
Im also a lil confused! If you are connected to your network and are obtaining an IP address then there isn't really much else to worry about!

Well here's your Audio driver (for Xp): http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/license.do?filename=mobiles/1ya210ww.exe
Note: Vista driver for audio is located at Windows Update, custom.

You could try uninstalling your currently installed audio driver (say, Add\Remove programs)

Then install the above.

This could also be Virus\Spyware activity. Have a look at:

Might a faulty harddrive be a part of it?

A:BSODs and now bad display

The 'BIOS memory chip (that small circular thing) from my old gone PC' is a battery that supplies retention voltage to your CMOS (bios). The checksum error is because it now has no voltage and it 'forgets' things.

Put the original back in.

Your other symptoms sound more like your graphics card failing or driver corruption than anything else. Uninstall your graphics drivers from Add/Remove and reboot. You'll only have VGA. How does that perform?

Hi, I have an IBM Thinkpad with Windows 98. I need to transfer the data to my new laptop. I have used a Sandisk cruzer mini 128 that just died. Great product for me. I bought a new cruzer mini 512 and it will not work in Windows 98 (although the 128 did).

What can I do to get my data out of this thinkpad onto my new one. The old one has a USB port from 1998.

what will work to get this done from Win 98? Its Win 98 not Win 98 se

Any advise greatly appreciated.

A:USB Mouse Not Responding to ThinkPad

First info we need is which model of thinkpad. USB 1.1 or USB 2.0
Do other USB devices work?
Does a full size logitech usb mouse or Microsoft USB mouse work. The Targus has always been a trouble-prone mouse with many reported failures, as have some other "miniature mouse" products sold for laptops.
Have you tried cleaning the USB ports with called air, a Q-Tip and 90% alcohol?

Some Thinkpads had a problem with solder failure on some models, requiring a replacement by IBM Lenovo.
Be sure all your USB devices are enabled in the Device Manager of System in the Control Panel... and that none of them have yellow or red flags.

Since it occurs ONLY on the LCD and not the output port, it appears you have a bad cable, bad cable connection, or a failing inverter.

i have this old IBM thinkpad X30 that does not have a built in optical drive..so I tried to connect my Benq dvd-rewriter to it and the first time round it installed and ran ok...but after I rebooted the laptop, the dvd drive was recognised only as a USB storage device and not an optical drive. What could be the problem?

A:IBM Thinkpad without optical drive cannot recognise Benq external dvd-rewriter

Hi Elliah,

I'm no computer expert but I will try my best.

What is your operating system? And is your Benq dvd-rewriter compatible with that operating system?

Is "Benq dvd-rewriter" the exact name of your dvd rewriter? Or is it something like,
BenQ DW1670 DVD ReWriter?

I tried to find drivers for your dvd rewriter but I think I need more information.

I'm thinking this may be a driver problem, but I'm not sure.

When you plugged your dvd rewriter into your computer for the first time did your computer have to go online to find drivers for it? Or did it start working with drivers that came with your operating system?

Also you can try these steps if the above information didn't help.
1. disconnect your dvd rewriter from your computer
2. Locate your dvd rewriter driver in the Device Manager and Uninstall it.
3. Reboot your computer, plug in your dvd rewriter and see what happens.

I'll look up more information about this tomorrow, it's really late now sorry.

hello
Last week i assembled a new computer for myself. the specs are as follows:

asus p5k pro
intel quad q6600 2.4
2 gb ddr2 800 team elite
disco sata 350GB 16mb western digital
asus gforce 8800gt 512mb
gravador de dvd nec sata

when i first started the computer, and started installing windows i got a bsod, after the reboot all went well, but when i started installing drivers, i started getting BSOds after each install.
it became a padron: each time i install a new program, a new driver, or a new hardware (like a usb pen) i get a BSOD, but after that i can use it without a problem. i did some memory tests, but no problem was found.
can anyone help me?

A:Lots of bsods, cant find the reason

That P5K Pro board has been infamous for disliking certain memory modules. See if the memory you have is on the ASUS recommended list.
I assume you have checked your Device Manager and there are no yellow or red flags there. If not, please do so.
BSOD's are most frequently driver related. But can be caused by memory the motherboard does not like, or a unacceptable video graphics card.
I would start by trying one memory module at a time, or running the free MemTest86 for four hours or 7 passes, whichever is shorter.
Alternately, try different standard memory modules such as Crucial, Kingston, Corsair, OCZ, Infineon.
For video graphics, try going back to a slightly earlier version of the Driver, or go to a different source to get it.
Good luck. Please keep us posted about the change that fixes it.

I replaced the system board on my IBM thinkpad 600E because the original problem was that everytime the system booted up it would keep going to the time (time would not stay). I know that there is a battery on the system board but I figured it would be less of a hassle if I just replace the system board. I did that and now the system will not boot up. The LED's come on and I hear the fan run but nothing will show up on the screen. What should I do?

Are you sure the replacement board was not broken? Maybe you did something wrong when putting the thing back together again?

Just take the thing apart again and try your previous mobo. If that works, try with the new one again.

I have a question that one of you may be able to answer easily I have a Thinkpad T type - RU that has two problems It takes to attempts at pressing the start button to get the system to boot Once it boots and launches Windows it runs perfectly until I move the computer -- then it freezes The screen Laptop? on IBM T41 Thinkpad a Vertigo blinks and sometimes a scrambled display is shown The power is still on the fan runs the quot power on quot light is Vertigo on a IBM Thinkpad T41 Laptop? lit and the battery indicates it is charging -- but Vertigo on a IBM Thinkpad T41 Laptop? the computer will not run It must be re-started I ve tried an external monitor but that freezes also Is that something that you have seen before I wondered if it was overheating -- so I cleaned the cooling system out No change I have changed the CD-DVD ROM both RAM modules the hard drive and removed the modem daughter card I installed a fresh OS and video drivers -- run Windows XP and Windows ME I even swapped the CPU from a broken T No improvement noted from doing any of the above One clue I read that this laptop has an accelerometer of some sort that shuts things down parks the hard disk heads when it senses it is falling Maybe that system has become over-sensitive and every little wiggle sets it off Perhaps it is suffering from a bad case of vertigo In that case is there a setting or something in the BIOS that shuts this feature off Thanks for any input you have Sincerely Tom Cane nbsp

A:Vertigo on a IBM Thinkpad T41 Laptop?

The hard drive protection system is not supposed to crash the system. The HD is stopped for a couple of seconds and the machine will become responsive again if the movement stops. Also, this wouldn't affect starting up the machine.

How much do you have to "move" the computer to make it freeze? Does it die when you shift it around on the table? Or when you lift it carefully with two hands? How about if you do the usual thing and try lifting it from one front corner?

Do you have the latest BIOS and embedded controller firmware installed?

I bought a used IBM Thinkpad T20 Thinkpad Type 2647-92U from eBay for use this semester on campus. It is in great shape and has a recent edition of Windows XP but an older version of MS Office which does not boot properly.

The CD is an official copy; clean and has no scratches or nicks. The DVD/CD-ROM will boot other CD's such as music CD's and DVD films and data discs with MS Word files etc on them.

Intel Core duo E Ghz GB kingston RAM GB MSI P N SLI Nvidia GTS MB GB WD HDD Initially a few games NFS Most wanted and Doom at max gaphics used to crash to the desktop or occasionally give out a BSOD BSODs/CTDs while gaming. :( STOP msg F or I switched the RAM sticks and used them individually and found out that one of them was faulty coz with i didn t have any persistent problems but i did have the occasional CTD BSOD but very rarerly with the other one I got the faulty stick exchanged and i still experienced the crashes BSODs with both of the sticks installed I then just stuck to using the single stick that was working fine and had no problems till a few days ago when I ran DiRT runs fine at full detail and i get a BSOD PAGE FAULT at NON PAGE AREA Now most of my other games also crash with a BSOD after a few minutes I m guessing the single proper RAM stick also has gone faulty What i wanted to know was if they were becoming defective coz of BSODs/CTDs while gaming. :( a heating problem or if theres a problem with my motherboard I still haven t run memtest yet which i will soon I have attached a dump of the F STOP msg Can anyone throw some light on the issue nbsp

A:BSODs/CTDs while gaming. :(

Try updating the sound drivers. That dump crashed at a sound driver with a (usually) hardware related bugcheck. Post some more dump files if it continues to crash.

Hello everyone,

do someone know a procedure to remove de bios pass on a thinkpad t43 ? I've seen this procedure http://sodoityourself.com/hacking-ibm-thinkpad-bios-password/ but i'll rather hear from you guys first, instead of tweaking the chip.

If someone knows about a pass software like the dell latitude one or similar i'll thankyou a lot.

Cheers.

A:IBM Thinkpad t43 bios password

the T43 password removal can only be doing using special i2c programmer. there are no master passwords for these laptops.

I attached an additional monitor to my IBM ThinkPad g40 laptop using the external monitor port. The first time it worked fine. After disconnecting the additional monitor, subsequent attempts to connect resulted in the monitor "shorting out." If I forcefully push the cable connector into the port, it works, but if I release the "extreme" pressure, the monitor goes blank, or the screen has a yellow or green "film" over it. The monitor works on my desktop computer with no problem. The pins in the cable are not bent. Could the external monitor port be faulty? Can it be replaced? Thanks for any help.

A:Unable to get external monitor to work with IBM ThinkPad G40

Yes the laptops external monitor port may be damaged. The external VGA port is part of the motherboard. Excessive pressure might have broken some solder joints attaching the video connector to the motherboard. These connections may be able to be repaired. Finding a tech to do this may be a task

Well, my pc BSOD's basically whenever I touch it or move it at all, and sometimes, often times, I'll just come home to a bsod. And often, I will have to boot the pc up 11 or 12 times before it will actually boot up and quit crashing in the middle. Also, I know when my pc is going to crash sometimes, because sometimes it literally chirps. Little chirps at around 1.5 second intervals, then it crashes.

I've included the bsod below... id prefer if my pc did not do that, especially fail to boot so many times. I've ran chkdsk, and its found stuff, but that takes about 20-30 min and i dont want to have to keep doing that. Any advice would be great.

A:bsods, repeated boot crashing...

Start troubleshooting this by opening the case and cleaning out all the dust and debris and check all the connecting wires to be solidly plugged in to where thay are

My R31 Thinkpad is not setup for wireless service. It has the Mini PCI card slot, but is not wired with the antenna. Can I use the PCMCIA slot to install a wireless adapter? Are there any compatibility issues?

A:ThinkPad R31 and Wireless Adapters

Welcome to Techspot!

Those MiniPC card slot the same size of RAM for these units. If you can get a wifi card for it great for that slot, but you might be better off buying wifi card and insert into your PCMCIA slot instead. Don't forget to install the drivers before you install the card.

A:ibm thinkpad

It's time to take the ThinkPad in to be repaired. It could be a failing LCD display or LCD backlight... Or possibly a bad internal cable or connection

A year ago I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad R I love it to death but it s got one little quirk that consistently drives invisible R60 on network ThinkPad me crayz and I haven t been able to figure out a way around the problem No matter what kind of network I m on or where no one else s computer can see my Thinkpad I always make sure I m using identical protocols and settings as all other computers on the network I always make sure my workgroup name is the same I always make sure I have shared folders and I always make sure that file and print sharing is turned on I have no problem connecting to the internet or browsing shared folders ThinkPad R60 invisible on network on other computers or network drives But no one can ThinkPad R60 invisible on network see me for more ThinkPad R60 invisible on network than a few minutes--I do appear briefly but only briefly--after I log onto the network wireless or wired does not matter This is a hassle I cannot frag for any period of time again games do not see me on the network I cannot set up an Ad Hoc connection The only way I can do IM over a network is if the client supports messaging directly to a specific IP such as NetworkChat I ve tried everything I know how to do but no matter what my laptop seems to be stuck in perpetual quot stealth-mode quot I ve played with every network setting in ThinkVantage I can find with no luck I have bought a wireless PC card and tried connecting with that instead of the internal WAN or LAN but it s no different Always I can see them but they can t see me I have found other people who have had this problem with ThinkPads but as yet no solution Lenovo and IBM tech support insist it s an ID T issue and won t troubleshoot with me I can promise you that isn t the case Does anyone have more information about this problem or how I might solve it I really would like to be able to frag folder-share and IM with this laptop it s great but it s such a waste if I can t have any fun with it nbsp

My thinkpad has stopped charging with the AC adapter. It still gets juice through the adapter - doesn't shut off even when battery is showing zero charge left, but it is not charging and the computer battery icon does not indicate that it is plugged into the adapter. Battery does charge when in the docking station. Any troubleshooting help would be appreciated.

Our inventory guy here at the farm brought to me a new and interesting problem. He has a T60 with a monitor that does dark shortly after bootup, although the screen content can still be seen if you look closely.

His question to me is where does the problem lie? In the monitor portion or the sytem portion of the laaptop? Seems to me he is only losing the illumination element, while the display itself still continues to get a video signal from the system board. however I wanted to get some second and third opinions before reporting back. Anyone?

A:T60 Thinkpad - LCD Illumination

Sounds like the backlight is turning off or dimming. It could be a hardware failure(or partial failure) or possibly could be software dimming the backlight. Some laptop systems have software that will dim the backlight when on battery power to save power and therefore increase battery life. If it hasn't happened in the past however it sounds like a problem with the hardware.

Hey all, lately I've had problems with my laptop.

Its a IBM Thinkpad T30.

When I plug it into the wall, and turn it on, it will run for a bit then start blinking to battery and then back to AC power.

Sometimes it even completely shuts off my laptop.

Any suggestions on how to stop this, or fix it?

(Hope this is the right place to put this.)

A:Ibm thinkpad bios password removal

Password Removal...

Hail...

I've got a Thinkpad too...Now for your problem there's suppose to be an option to log into the bios for removal or to change the password... Cause IBM's only got the password set for the Hard Disk which comes after the Power On Self Test [POST]... Hit Access IBM button like mine has or try the classic F1 & Del keys....

hold down F1 or DEL or whatever key is used for BIOS when booting.

other than that it isn't software issue....

Had a customer call me with an IBM G40 laptop with issues.

Faintly see the graphics on the LCD screen and no back-lighting. I popped the trim on the LCD and checked voltage out of the inverter, nothing. I did notice that the LCD will light for just about 1 second when power is 1st applied to the inverter so that rules out a bad panel.

Has anyone ran across such symptoms on LCD inverters? I guess I can swap out a $26 inverter & see if it cures the problem.

Thanks

I have been getting seemingly random BSODs and deep freezes lately. They are not totally random, i.e. they happen after starting or exiting programs, but not always. Only sometimes. I might run a program and get a deep freeze, and then upon reboot, running the same program again does nothing. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Thanks. Following is my minidump.

A:Random BSODs

Your minidump crashes at ntkrnlpa.exe and references verclsid.exe as the owning process.

The verclsid.exe file is known to cause problems and could be the cause of your problems too.

See HERE and HERE for more info.

Obviously, it`s difficult to be sure from just one minidump, but it is a known issue and therefore is worthy of further investigation.

Hey all,
I have an IBM iSeries Thinkpad notebook 1161-43U, that won't come out of "standby" mode. I have an orange battery indication, a green half-moon indicator, and the green power indicator. The notebook won't power up at all. If I disconnect the power AC adapter and then plug it in, I can hear a faint grinding sound and then nothing. I suspect that the main CPU cooling fan is malfunctioning causing a "CPU overheating" condition...

Does anyone have experience with this?

Many thanks.

A:Daily BSODs

One crash by "symevent.sys", a Symantec file. One by "rdbss.sys", a Windows File, another by "ndis.sys", also a Windows Files.
Two by "lpx.sys", which I can't find any info about.
Try uninstalling Symantec products, and try a free alternative like Avast, AVG,etc. If that doesn't fix it then open command prompt (start-run-cmd), and run sfc /scannow to check system files.
