Q: BSOD occurrence on a regular basis

For the past few days, I have encountered a lot of BSODs on my computer with windows 7 64x whereas they didn't occur at all in the past. The computer also tends to freeze at some point.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi,

The dump you've attached unfortunately provides an inconclusive analysis probable fault. At this point, I would recommend enabling Driver Verifier. Driver Verifier will force a BSOD once it finds the faulting driver (if this is software / driver related). If Driver Verifier doesn't show anything, we'll move onto further testing.

I keep getting BSOD (with different error codes every time - sometimes the graphics driver) and now it's just driving me crazy.

Not sure if it's of any use, but my system is a Sony Vaio VPCCW1S1E running Windows 7 HP 64bit, Core 2 Duo P7450, 4GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GT 230M graphics, and a 320gb HDD.

Usual causes: Device driver, Malware

Your latest dump file blames nvlddmkm.sys which is your Graphics Driver.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

I suggest you "re-seat" your Graphics Driver.
Download and install Driver Sweeper.
Boot to Safe Mode
Uninstall current Graphics Drivers set up.
Run Driver Sweeper to clean up any left overs.
Reboot to Normal Mode.
Install your new Graphics Drivers.

Hello everybody,
I have freshly installed Windows 10 Home 64 on Samsung 850 EVO 500 Gb SSD. From the install time I getting regular BSOD's, but only in one typical scenario: after 4th or 5th time when pc resumed from sleep, other ways the pc runs perfectly.
Getting desperate with this problem. I update any possible drivers with update reviver program, but pc behavior is still the same. It goes to sleep without problem and usually crashes only after 4th to 5th time when resuming. The motherboard bios is latest official version (not beta). Windows updates are on.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hey.
I have a pretty old Pc and lately (in the last week or so) I've started encountering Daily BSODs and PC going super slow mainly when gaming/after exiting games. (usually a restart fixes it).
I've installed BSODViewer and here is the dump:
I've encoutered same behavior before (not on so big scale, had a few BSODs in a week) but it somehow went away so I forgot about it. (Ik its stupid to do but yea..)

What could i do to stop it from BSODing? Im getting a new PC soon but until then i want this to hold on until then with minimal costs.

I had a client yesterday resources a basis 0% regular on that was constantly having her resources as listed in performance under system in the control panel falling all the way down to at which time her screen would jump around or just freeze all together don t ask 0% resources on a regular basis me how she got into the system properties after freezing Did some checks on her system --Running WinME with MB of RAM --Only items running in MSCONFIG were the bare minimums taskmonitor scanregistry loadpowerprofiles -- thats all I think IM programs AIM and MSN and she has her Norton Auto- protect turned off as well she does regular scans 0% resources on a regular basis every thursday --Checked for Spyware and came up with none --Client has all the latest drivers for her system and are all full version drivers not Betas --Sometimes she will run more than one app such as 0% resources on a regular basis Word or Outlook Express at the same time but usually not and the problem occurs even when she s just running one app and they aren t CAD programs or any other programs that should take up alot of RAM usually just Office apps or simple games like Solitare --Did a full virus scan with her Norton which is fully updated as well as a backup online just to be certain came up clean --She is not on a network she just uses a regular dialup modem What could be causing her resources to get so low nbsp

Switch off system restore and then run virus scan. Virus scan can check it then and see if any virus has contaminated it might be something left over? Only a guess mind you, but anything helps !!

Hi guys,

I have a Intel 520 Series 120gb SSD, that i've been using for a few months.

In the last few months, on a regular basis(every 20-30 days), my system boots up normally without errors, and suddenly applications start displaying errors that they cannot access the the root drive.

After a reboot the SSD loses all the partition info along with the data on it, and it wont boot, while the BIOS flashes the "disk boot failure - insert system disk" error.

After inserting the system disk, and doing a clean install, it works perfectly, and passes all Diagnostic Checks for the next 20-30 days until it does that AGAIN!

After that, the SMART LBA written data count resets to about 1.5TB.

The worst part is that i cant take it to a RMA because it wont display any errors when they do their diagnostics, otherwise i would replace it for the same model immediately.

Any suggestions?

Just off the top of my head, I'd be looking for bad connections or power state failures. Check your system event log and maybe run a voltage monitor like HWiNFO64.

Alright I ve posted this problem probably times by now and every time it SEEMS to go away it crops up after on Massive CPU regular usage a basis a few days I have disabled most of the programs in my startup yet it still is regularly jumping to - usage And there are only processes YEAH Kind of not a good sign The culprits are once again wmiprvse exe and services exe which are both between - and - respectively on a regular basis I m not going to ask for a hotfix and I know that Massive CPU usage on a regular basis what I am asking for isn t going to be an easy fix Please please PLEASE do not be lazy and say quot DISABLE PROGRAMS AT STARTUP quot I ve done absolutely everything I can think of to minimize the CPU usage--I even switched from Firefox to Google Chrome which I might add IS a pretty good browser--and I really have no clue what to do Massive CPU usage on a regular basis now Just as a note whenever I do restart my computer the CPU stays at about - usage for about three hours then starts spiking rapidly I m assuming it s a memory leak or something associated with those two exe s And yeah I probably did something a long time ago that I thought would help the machine and has in effect bleep ed it over Anyway Thank you for any responses you can give and any advice you can give I m going to check every site I can until I figure out how to fix this Thank you again nbsp

I have an HTPC which is my media center pc It reboots every now and then Here is the backstory - it was doing this to another time but since then i have replaced motherboard and memory I do not remember if i updated my cpu I do not think so to be honest I do not have much running on this pc at all as all it does is records my tv shows with an ceton infinitv card I do have it shut down nightly at pm and then start up at am I do not keep it on all the time Well to be honest it use to do that so i thought it was just running out of cache or something So i put it on basis regular Blue screens on a schedule yesterday to shut down and turn on by itself and it bluescreened again That was at almost am and the pc turned on at I work on computers for a living but can not figure out my own issue I have attached the minidumps It is very infrequent on when it reboots I need help reading the dump files to figure out what to do as i can not read them correctly i am dumb founded Oh i do have Blue screens on regular basis the side off my pc incase that makes a difference it is in a basement which keeps very cool Also it has a fan with fan control on it and it is all the way up What other information do you need the board is msi gm- p fx - new board processor is phenom x - if i remember - not new memory unsure but can get the info - new memory PSU unsure - can not remember if new or not not overclocked at all Bios updated to latest

I'm running Windows 10x64 Pro and IE 11 stops responding on a regular basis. If I go to the reliability log I see that it stops 10+ times per day. I'm going to attach the information it tells me about the stoppage.

Also I'm attaching the results file after running the DM_Log_collector provided by this website. Even though it's naturally a BSoD I thought it might be helpful.

We have several users who's accounts lock out on a regular basis- as many as 6 times per day. We are an Active Directory single domain shop. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for any tools to troubleshoot this issue?

...Im accessing this site while in Safe mode with networking because of the frequent freezes in regular mode. Im running Windows XP pro and recently installed a new hard drive and video card. All seemed to go well until I noticed a game crashing and when trying to trouble shoot the problem, the computer freezes any time I try to do something. THe only drivers I have installed are for the video card and the onboard sound (found an outdated sound card that was XP incompatible so trashed it and loaded drivers for onboard sound...BIOS was changed to reflect that. The GeFOrce driver is the one that came with the card. GeForce 6600 LE 256MB

Im about ready to strip the hard drive down, uninstall everything and start over! Its THAT frustrating!

Please help!

A few times every session, if I type in a web address, my browser shows me an advertisement for a Wireless Cantenna from WirelessGardenStore.com.

I've run Spybot and it didn't fix the issue.

Any suggestions to fix this? It's rather annoying.

I am monitored at my job by a program that sends rtf document through Outlook every hour (during business hours). I often work remotelety and all of the sudden I cannot open or save these files. The error I get is:

"Can't create file filename.rtf. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions on the folder"

I delete these files regularly as I receive them. A co-worker has this same issue at the office on his work computer and our tech support has not been able to solve it. We are running XP and Office 2003 on both computers.

If I check by webmail, I am able to open the rtf, but cannot open it from Outlook.

A:High occurrence of BSoD

I read your minidumps and all cite Windows OS drivers as the probable cause but the problem is OS drivers are usually too general to be of much help.

Only one dump cited something else and it stated hardware without further details.

With so many differing BSOD codes and with so many different drivers listed as the cause this can be a strong idicator of corrupted memory. Three of your error codes are 0xD1 and though they are usually caused by drivers they also can be caused by faulty or mismatched memory.

Have you run Memtest of the RAM for diagnostic sake? If not make sure you run it for a minimum of 7 Passes.

hi!

ive been having bsod issues since i had this custom made pc. once the computer is turned on, after a few heavy processing applications or just after a few hours of idling time, the computer goes to bsod, but after a reboot, the systems works fine through the day, until its turned off for more then 10min.

so its like a daily routine, i read up alot of forums and such, but i cudnt muster enuf info. pls help if possible.

Not sure why but this BSOD has occurred twice in one day and I have never seen it happen before.

I have attached the ZIP folder as required from the forum instructions.

In my event viewer I receive the following:

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.

Hi guys,

I have encountered a second crash in under 3 weeks with the BSOD code 3b. I'm certain my chipset drivers are up to date, as are my graphics drivers. Windows drivers are also up to date. Generally speaking, I've been keeping drivers up to date.


I have attached the dump files for both 18/02/15 and 01/02/15. I would really appreciate help on analysis with this, as I haven't been able to solve it.

Hey everyone,

This is the first time I have gotten this Blue screen and I am wondering what the culprit could be. Dell's SupportAssist tool claims that my CPU is to blame.

I am currently running MemTest86+, updates to follow.

I am at a loss on what to do, and how to solve this issue.

Hello all,

This happens about once a month. I personally think it's related to my SSD but not entirely sure. Don't recall this happening before i reformatted with my new SSD.

I've missed a few of the dmps because I don't always wait for it to collect it.

Attached are my dmp files as well as the zip created by the log creator tool in the sticky.

Hi Ripbizzle & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

Unfortunately, the dump files present inside the ZIP file are 2 months older . Could you please manually ZIP up the dump files present in the folder - "C:\Windows\Minidumps". Copy the dump files to some other place before zipping them up else you would be greeted by an error.

Once the dump files are zipped, please upload them with your next post so that they could be analysed ^_^

Hi.

One of our employes comuter is randomly crashing with the error 0x000003b, and sometimes it also reports FLTMGR.sys in the BSOD.

She uses Skype (chatting only), Thunderbird, Office 2010 and Firefox. There is no pattern to what she is doing to when the computer is crashes.

I got SF_Diagnostic_Tool file from the 23.05.2013 attached.

The basic definition of a 0x116 bugcheck is:
There may be a bug in the video driver or video hardware.So, let me now explain what VIDEO_TDR_ERROR means. First off, TDR is an acronym for Timeout Detection and Recovery. Timeout Detection and Recovery was introduced in Vista and carried over to Windows 7. Rather than putting exactly what Timeout Detection and Recovery does exactly, I'll just directly quote the MSDN article! Timeout detection: The GPU scheduler, which is part of the DirectX graphics kernel subsystem (Dxgkrnl.sys), detects that the GPU is taking more than the permitted amount of time to execute a particular task. The GPU scheduler then tries to preempt this particular task. The preempt operation has a "wait" timeout, which is the actual TDR timeout. This step is thus the timeout detection phase of the process. The default timeout period in Windows Vista and later operating systems is 2 seconds. If the GPU cannot complete or preempt the current task within the TDR timeout period, the operating system diagnoses that the GPU is frozen.
To prevent timeout detection from occurring, hardware vendors should ensure that graphics operations (that is, DMA buffer completion) take no more than 2 seconds in end-user scenarios such as productivity and game play. Preparation for recovery: The operating system's GPU scheduler calls the display miniport driver's DxgkDdiResetFromTimeout function to inform the driver that the operating system detected a timeout. The driver must then reinitialize itself and reset the GPU. In addition, the driver must stop accessing memory and should not access hardware. The operating system and the driver collect hardware and other state information that could be useful for post-mortem diagnosis. Desktop recovery: The operating system resets the appropriate state of the graphics stack. The video memory manager, which is also part of Dxgkrnl.sys, purges all allocations from video memory. The display miniport driver resets the GPU hardware state. The graphics stack takes the final actions and restores the desktop to the responsive state. As previously mentioned, some legacy DirectX applications might render just black at the end of this recovery, which requires the end user to restart these applications. Well-written DirectX 9Ex and DirectX 10 and later applications that handle Device Remove technology continue to work correctly. An application must release and then recreate its Direct3D device and all of the device's objects. For more information about how DirectX applications recover, see the Windows SDK. Article here. With this being said, if Timeout Detection and Recovery fails to recover the display driver, it will then shoot the 0x116 bugcheck. There are many different things that can cause a 0x116, which I will explain below:

It is a display related issue, and the RAM is not a suspect here.

Which was the display driver version that you had installed before the update?

Uninstall the installed display driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. Then download and install the previous one. See if it really solves the issue or not.

If not, we will explain the issue in detail (it is a bit critical one) and will attempt to minimize it.

There seems to be a problem with writing data to the cache, I would suggest running this test:Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95
Enable "Round off checking" before the test (see first post below tutorial).

Run the Small FFT's, Large FFT's and Blend Test for a few hours each, do not let the temperature exceed 80*C.

Hello all I just got a new PC but have been suffering from what appear to be totally to fault unable Occurrence Suspected driver but - BSOD identify Random random BSoD occurrences It has occurred when a wide variety of programs are being run and I cannot find any commonalty between the events Based on the error codes driver irql less or not equal is the most common I suspect it is a driver fault but I am not savvy enough to identify what one s is are at fault I've updated every driver I know of BSOD Random Occurrence - Suspected driver fault but unable to identify to what appears to be the latest verison and done a clean reinstall on graphics drivers to I've unplugged all peripherals barring my mouse keyboard and monitor and had the same result Sometimes it will go hours without failing and sometimes it will occur multiple times during startup I've also ran SFC scannow as an admin with no faults found in attempts Malwarebytes has turned up no threats My current specs are Mobo - Asus Gryphon Z Armor Edition CPU - Intel i - K RAM - TeamGroup Vulcan Gold GB MHz GPU - EVGA GTX Ti Superclocked ACX SSD - Samsung EVO GB HDD - Seagate Barracuda TB OS - Windows Home Premium -bit BSOD Random Occurrence - Suspected driver fault but unable to identify Any help would be greatly appreciated I've attached every minidump I have received but if you need more information please just say Cheers

A:System BSOD on a regual basis - Can anyone help me out??

Hey. I've taken some time to read through the dump analysis. It appears that the BSODs are being caused by the kernel not being able to page-in some data from the page file. Specifically the error codes refer to the unavailability of the hard drive where the page file is located. I would say the disk is on its way out. Make sure you've backed up all your important stuff!

EDIT: Just another thought, you can try clearing the CMOS and try another cable. Be careful not to bend it at all, I once had a very slow hard drive because the SATA cable had a 90 degree bend in it, not a good idea!

I am pretty frustrated as I get all kind of BSOD's during HIGH PERFORMANCE games. (nothing during L4D2, multiple BSOD's during Battlefield 4)

I am almost sure it's hardware related, I don't think BSOD's happen this often if its a driver problem.. can you help me finding the devil please?

Highest placed suspects in cases like this are overheating and voltage drops. Download, install and keep HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting loaded while using those games to see if any of that is the culprit.

HI,

My wife's computer is crashing on a random basis.

After some of the crashes, I wasn't even able to reboot. On that point sometimes I get "Disk read error", sometimes, instead of booting , I get screen which shows changing colors of white, gray, black and colors (green, red & blue - as far as I remember).

I had that problem last week. I've updated the BIOS, the problem gone, but now the computer keeps crashing. Sometimes it crashed in the middle of the night with no reason (no file sharing activities are present).

For a long time, on a random basis the computer hangs for a several seconds, with message "display driver stopped responding". Then the computer become usuable again with no BSOD.

My guess... hardware problem with 1. video card or 2. power adapter or 3. motherboard.

Any advise would be very welcomed

Update your video card driver directly from the Nvidia website: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
Select the second option on that page it will detect what video card you have and find the appropirat drivers.

I've been running Windows 8 for couple of months and it keeps randomly crashing. Mostly when I have multiple on going processes.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

Been having quite a few BSOD issues recently. They seem to be happening at least once per day and i have done some testing with programs i always have open by closing xxx application one day and yyy application the next and nothing has helped.
I also cant figure out if i had installed / updated anything just before issues started.

I have tried using BlueScreenView to have a look through the dump files and see what the problems are but i do not fully understand the program.
As far as i can tell it is claiming the BSOD's are caused by hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe

I have also uploaded a zip file using method 1 (SF_Diagnostics_Tool)

Hello everyone. I have recently came across the BSOD, not recently, since I first bought my PC. Starting with windows xp sp2 till windows 7 I have had BSOD on frequent time intervals. Most recently it happened while trying to click on a web page link. Usually I had blue screens while exiting a game or playing one.
My specs are:
Windows 7 32 bit (x86)
full retail version
installed windows for less than a month
Mainboard: Asus P5KPL-VM
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8200
Memory: 2 x 1024 MB Corsair xms2
PSU: Rasurbo 550 W
I checked temperatures, drivers, even tested memory and vga card for a whole day. I even flashed BIOS.....still the same result.

I notice that you have windows 7 Enterprise edition, did this PC come form your work/had windows installed by the company you work for? If it was I would contact your IT department before actually doing anything to the PC. If it was not installed by your work then the install is likely counterfeit, as Enterprise edition is only sold in bulk not in single copies.

So I've had this HP G Notebook for about years It was a gift from my mother who bought it off of a friend a good one who problem unsure a BSOD Windows 7 of basis, on actual daily had no use for it For a while it ran fine and I could definitely accept the fact that it wasn't that great of a PC and I had neglected to actually buy another battery for it despite the fact that it had no battery in the first place Now I'm getting off-topic starting about months ago my PC began to randomly BSoD for apparently no discernible reason occasionally it would overheat but I don't know if that's the issue It started off rather infrequently like every couple of weeks and now it just bluescreens on a daily basis Anyway it doesn't have a battery and I Windows 7 BSOD on a daily basis, unsure of actual problem keep it on quot life support quot all the time even though it's a laptop I'm okay with computers but with the more technical stuff I find myself lost so I really have no idea what's causing this and I would really appreciate some help I've included the zip in this message Thanks in advance -Daniel

Hello

A few weeks ago I mounted a new hard drive that had data recovered from a damaged one. And since then I've been getting blue screens almost everyday. Prior to that the machine was working fine.

I did not notice a specific time for it to happen, but generally when I am playing "Heroes of Newerth" and have other applications opened BSOD strikes.

I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Internet Security.

Hey guys, Ive had my netbook a couple of years now and installed windows 7 almost a year ago now. Over the last few days it has began to regularly get BSOD or sometimes restarts after giving a message 'A critical error has occurred and windows will restart in 1 minute please save your work now'. I cant think what could be causing the problem. Please could someone take a look?

I've been getting frequent BSODs when doing normal things like browsing the web in google chrome and not when doing more intensive tasks like playing games. The errors all seemed to reference some memory issues so I ran memtest86+ for 8 passes and got no errors. I also uninstalled the soft ether vpn driver that was referenced in one of my earlier crash dumps.
After I removed the driver the number of BSODs has gone down but I'm still getting some.

I ran the DM Log Collector 5 times and restarted my PC/ re-downloaded the exe and the zip file was never created even though the tool ran. I used the SF Diagnostic tool instead and was able to get that to work. I've attached the results to this post.

Hello, I just finished building a new pc, and I installed windows XP x64 Service Pack 2 as the OS. Now I am getting a blue screen every half hour or so. It was just happening when I close some programs, but now I cannot let it set overnight with out one happening. I cannot figure out why this is. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

Hi all

Getting a regular BSOD and can't see any obvious pattern or cause. I don't know anything about reading .dmp reports and analysing to find problem. Appears it might be related to mv91xx.sys driver but to be honest I have no clue. Any help very much appreciated.

It is Related to mv91xx.sys magni Windows Driver from Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. I would re-install newest driver available

We would be happy to help, but these DMP files a re corrupt and contain no useful information.

They all say copy. Where are the originals, and how did you copy and compress these.

I guess multiple issues are going on. Mainly its Memory. Lets start with basics. If your Overclocking please stop. Make sure your BIOS has the latest firmware. If you using any Antivirus or Firewall uninstall it and see whether that make any difference. Also the dump is pointing to win32k.sys which is basically a GUI related driver. So its worth uninstalling the current Display driver and download the driver from vendors website and NOT from Windows update. Also the crash has happened when you was browsing might be related to your Network card also the NIC card is not very updated one. Its worth updating the Network card driver from the manufactures website NOT from Windows Update.

Hi,

I am suffering from unpredictable but regular BSODs, one or more a day and they seem to be getting more frequent. They occur when I am doing light browsing or emailing, one yesterday happened during a system restore.

The BIOS is up to date and have tried several versions of the video drivers, currently (I think) the windows 7 native version. I have definitely removed the catalyst utility.

I have attached the contents of my minidump folder.

Any help would be very appreciated because I'm running out of ideas.

Hello.

I have booted up into regular mode with my user account and as an Administrator. Desktop icons load slowly (placeholder icons load right away, but the specific icons for the items load 1 evrey 5 seconds). I get a message about Zone Alarm being expired (not part of theproblem, but letting you know it executes Zone Alarm just before the BSOD occurs).

Safe mode is fine (I have even tweaked the registry to have sound during safe mode). Safe mode sucks though.

I have attached the 3 BSODs. I haven't analyzed them myself yet.

Hi - We are finding multiple machines (setup identically) with BSOD appearing at different sites, whilst running out own application, need some help with interpreting the dump files which are attached, if anyone can point us in the right direction?

Tried using different brand machines but same error occurs, though this is limited to Windows 7, XP did not suffer this issue.

Recently, I've been having a lot of problems on my laptop with BSOD's.

They would usually occur whilst I was playing a high intensity game, but after a friend got me to update my BIOS and all of my drivers, they seemed to stop occuring, and I thought I was in the clear.

(My friend is good with computers, I'm.... not. So I trusted his advise, maybe it wasn't a useful suggestion of his though? )

Anyway, Recently, when powering my computer up, after leaving it on sleep/hibernate, I got an instant BSOD..

The BCCODE was 9088, I believe.
But, Like an idiot, I've recently closed the window with the information about it... Sorry.

Anyway, Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, because it ceertainly isn't fun- Bluescreening.

Hi There

I have been experiencing random and varied BSODs on my system for some time now. Memory_Management and Page Fault In Non Paged Area are two that I see more often but the issue is certainly not limited to these two error codes.

System stability seems to vary; on some days performance will be rock solid, but on others I'll experience regular crashes. Lock ups often occur when playing video or audio, but they are also sometimes seemingly random; I've left my PC in a freshly booted up state and watched it BSOD while sitting idle.

Driver verifier hasn't thrown up any issues since updating a Marvell Controller driver, and the windows memory diagnostic tool also came back with no errors.

I have attached a diagnostic pack which is based on my latest crash.

Hope someone is able to help!

Hello all First of all here are my system specs Intel R Core TM i CPU GHz CPUs GHz Gigabyte EX -UD R Motherboard GB DDR RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX Right I'm kinda at my wit's end here For the past months I guess my computer unexpectedly BSOD while I am playing a game This all started last October when I started blue screening every minutes or so in Civilization V after a bit of tinkering and while Regular BSOD gaming advice from friends I removed a stick of RAM so that I only had gb remaining and this solved all of my problems Fast forward half a year and I decided to put the stick back in and fix whatever problems occurred little did I know that this would destroy what sanity I have BSOD constantly plagued me as I gamed with little to no help from the resulting mini dumps After running Memtest a few errors sprung up and so I decided to Regular BSOD while gaming order some new RAM I slotted in this new Regular BSOD while gaming RAM and within minutes a lovely shiny blue screen greated me I ran Memtest with this new RAM on my computer and on another and no errors showed At this point I thought it was a motherboard problem so I sent back the RAM and used Prime to make sure Prime reported no errors which to be honest did confuse me also looking back at the crash dumps a lot of old drivers were cropping up as the problem I even tried removing a stick like I did a few months back but the errors still occurred Because of this i decided to fully wipe my C drive and start from scratch I was planning on doing it this summer anyway I re installed a few games and made sure that every driver I downloaded was the most recent I could get This worked fine for a week or two and I ran into exactly the same problem so I ran Driver Verifier to find the culprit The driver DB G sys the driver used for my mouse flared up big time causing crashes like crazy After a bit of digging around I found an old beta driver designed just for Windows and installed it this cleared up this problem however the dll file it uses is from you cannot get a newer version before anyone says and the BSOD still struck Recently I've run every single debugging and checking program under the sun Memtest Prime FurMark chkdsk I've defragged it and ran it safe mode countless times checked that the all the pins inside are straight and touching what they need to be touching and read countless forum posts but I still seem to run into BSOD after BSOD The recent batch of minidumps point to memory problems and problems with DirectX so now I'm starting to think my GPU or its VRAM is the culprit However I don't want to jump to conclusions and order a new one without proper confirmation I've included the minidump as the forums ask and I can gladly answer any additional questions people may have This whole thing is really getting to me as I can't play any form of game without fear of crashing and I kinda need my computer running fine when I go back to my Games Design course at University Any advice tips help would be greatly appreciated O and sorry for this huge wall of text thanks for getting this far I wanna show how big a predicament this is and provide any details people may need without having to ask

Most of the BSODs are caused by your Realtek NIC driver but there's also a couple which Avast is responsible for, so I would recommend replacing it with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Have this problem for a while now. It happens almost random, sometimes 1 time a day, or sometimes 7 times a evening. It doesnt mather if I'm watching video or surfing online, BSOD will happen sometime anyway. I hope you can help me solving this problem. I've build my own system so nothing came 'pre-installed'. Hello,

Over the past few weeks my computer has been BSODing loads, the latest reason was 'A driver has overrun a stack-based buffer', but it seems to vary each time.

Most of the time (may be all of the time, can't remember) I am streaming some sort of video from the web.

I have my suspicions it may be due to the monitor I use, which is a 4:3 19 incher, and used to BSOD my laptop after using it as an additional screen for lengths of time...

I'm not sure what more information you guys need, but any help is much appreciated! I have attached a few dump files which I see were requested in other threads.

I have taken a quick look at your dump files and it could be a myriad of different things that is causing your issues, from a faulty keyboard, dodgy memory, bad drivers or to corrupted boot files.

I must direct you to please read through the instructions in this post, blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-8-windows-7-and-vista and make a post in the BSOD forum.

I would like to suggest some courses of action for you, but I will refrain and let the guys in the BSOD forum help you.

After running perfectly for months my Windows x system started regularly crashing with a BSOD about a weeks last BSOD few in Regular month ago I leave my computer on and when I was returning in the morning I started noticing it was no longer running I have been trying for several weeks to diagnose the issue Interestingly the computer has never crashed while I was using it but always either overnight or when I was out of my home office n The utility Who Crashed tells me the problem was probably caused by module ntoskrnl exe or ntkrnlmp exe The bugcheck code is x F The reported error is DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE I have tried various system restores to no avail I have enclosed the last two mini dump files Can anyone help me identify fix the problem A clean install would be a major project I was really trying to avoid right now I will gladly provide any other information I can My system is a Dell XPS with an Intel Core Quad Q GHz GB RAM C drive is a Samsung SSD more Raptor and Seagate internal drives also installed Any help would be greatly appreciated Tom Whedbee nbsp

With leaving the computer on 24/7 and with all the hard/SSD drives installed, the power supply may be the suspect failing hardware

These crashes were caused by memory corruption probably a driver.
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have a Raid update its Driver.

Memtest.

- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like.
From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

If you are using win 8 add these
- Concurrency Stress Test
- DDI compliance checking

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen.
Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly.
The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.
Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.
If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Please unlug any USB devices (with the exception of mouse & keyboard) and shutdown and reboot to see whether this is the cause.

Also, I recommend replacing Mcafee with MSE -- Macafee is often the cause of BSOD's.

Hello there I need your help with my Laptop Packard Bell Easy Note LS HR It all started sunday night I was playing when my computer turned black a couple seconds The game crashed and a notification you know a bottom right bubble mentionning AMD graphics or something appeared I didn t get the time to read it before the first BSOD (arikmpag.sys) regular BSOD arrived At first I didn t think much of it I let my computer reboot it seemed fine Then I played another game and it crashed again At this point regular BSOD (arikmpag.sys) I smelled something fishy so I tried a third time to launch a game just to be sure and this time I could take a picture of the BSOD here From that point I don t even have to launch a game Every time I try to launch windows normally my computer will be extremely I mean it slow for a couple minutes and a wild BSOD appears That s why I m now using the safe mode to post this message which works fine just no sound and no games I ve done some regular BSOD (arikmpag.sys) research and apparently I may have to update my drivers so I went to Packard Bell official support website here and downloaded the official AMD VGA driver and Intel VGA Driver for my laptop model EN LS HR Now before doing anything stupid like installing those drivers I don t know that much about hardware I thought I d better come to you for help with some complementary information Especially since both drivers on Packard Bell support page are from So here I am with a spec summary of my computer by AIDA and a WhoCrashed results AIDA spec report Whocrashed results BSOD Official Packard Bell Support website model EN LS HR Thank you all in advance for your help and your time nbsp

Nothing has changed hardware wise.

Only things new are Acronis True Image 2011 - which I have since removed.

Outlook and Thunderbird (I use both) crash at the same time when they have been running together.

I then get moments later BSOD.

Full malware/virus scan with Kaspersky 2011, Malware Bytes, Spybot and Combofix - completely clean!

Mini dumps debug info attached.

Am now trying running my system with half the 8GB RAM in to see if that makes a difference.

Any help would be appreciated if they can make sense from these Debug reports.

They are pointing to your network driver. You might want to roll back to a older driver and see if that helps. Or go to the computer Venders site and download a driver.

I am currently experiencing BSOD issues with my PC during regular use The BSOD Errors use, BSOD Various during regular does not seem to be associated with any particular task as it has occurred BSOD during regular use, Various Errors while the computer is idle or in use with or without any extraneous programs After each BSOD there are issues in restarting and it will occasionally either refuse to boot correctly and simply spin the fans or it will crash mid-boot and attempt to restart The PC only boots properly once turned off completely and restarted through the use of the On Off button as the restart button simply begins the cycle of boot crash again Each BSOD has also caused issues with programs managing to either corrupt or remove files that are integral to their operation For instance my attempts to run Path of Exile are thwarted due to some missing audio files and Mechwarrior Online BSOD during regular use, Various Errors is missing some files related to the engine This BSOD during regular use, Various Errors is fixable of course through re-installing or repairing them but the issue reappears after another BSOD Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated

Issues are still continuing.

Turns out that the issues with corrupt game files are separate to the BSOD issue.
The BSOD's seem to occur most often when either gaming, watching youtube, or both, with either program spontaneously failing 2-3 times in quick succession before the actual BSOD occurs.
Have attempted a GPU driver rollback, uninstall, and update to no avail.

I understand that you're having problems getting into normal mode - so try these steps in Safe Mode w/Networking.  Some may not work (such as uninstalling stuff) - so just let us know if that's the case.  Also, please understand that reports that are generated in Safe Mode may not show the problem (since the system boots without the BSOD).  The memory dumps will most likely be the key here - but we'll have to see what comes of them. You're having problems with the BlueStacks Android service.  Please uninstall it while we're troubleshooting.A lot of the VMWare services are disabled.  Did you do this?  If so, why? BIOS dates from 2014, please see if there's an update available at the manufacturer's website.Also, make sure that you have ALL available Windows Updates There are enough signs here that I have to wonder about this installation. Should this be a pirated copy of Windows, please be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Windows 7 Professional x64 bit
Installed via upgrade of a Windows 7 install, full retail version.
System less than 2 months old as is the OS install.

Getting blue screen an increasing amount at the moment, noted that ndis.sys was mentioned on the BSOD. No real pattern to when it happens, has happened once on reboot from standby but also whilst in normal operation.

This is my first time posting in the forum so if I need to add any additional info please tell me I am following the instructions of BSOD posting provided I am receiving BSOD regularly during use and sometimes when I open my computer after putting it to sleep I had so much trouble that I just did a factory reset and did not even restore my backed up info I use regular reset during factory after BSOD just installed bitdefender chrome and winamp I still had BSOD problems so I uninstalled BD and installed MSE and malwarebytes as were some of the general suggestions on other sites Still had BSOD problems Thought it was winamp because it would blue screen shortly after opening winamp and was very noticeable since the music would freeze in the middle of playing a song and loop the music where it stopped uninstalled it and used Windows Media player After doing yesterday I did not BSOD last night but I did BSOD during regular use after factory reset BSOD today so I don't know what the problem is anymore Attached are SF Diagnostic Tool log and a picture of the latest BSOD I BSOD during regular use after factory reset encountered if it helps which BSOD during regular use after factory reset is generally the same as the other BSOD I have been encountering in terms of stop code and the fact that quot physical memory dump FAILED quot

Blue screened again, this time with a stop error code I do not think has appeared before. Now shows 0x000000F4. Ran the SF_Diagnostic_Tool again and let it save in the same folder with (2) designating the new files. If this is a hardware issue, if you could get back to me ASAP that would be great; I bought my computer July 2, 2012 so I still have the 1 year limited warrenty from Sony to replace hardware problems.

Also, when i run SF_Diagnostic_Tool it tells me unable to find dump file, if that makes a difference. However, I followed the posting instructions and set everything to how the screenshots showed.

Hello, I have installed Windows 7 Home premium x64 on a system I built myself, and keep getting regular bluescreens. When I looked at the dumps with Bluescreenview, it always has ntoskrnl.exe highlighted in red. Help please?

You said "memory check ok" what memory check did you use? You have memory corruption which generally points to faulty RAM. Please run memtest86 for at least 8 passes. Follow these instructions.

My computer reformatted itself about a month or so ago and I had to reinstall windows a couple of times. I initially installed a cracked version of windows but moved to a legitimate copy as soon as I figured out that I could. Considering my laptop is custom, all of the drivers had to me installed individually. However, when I found my reinstallation and driver discs that came with my computer, I reinstalled everything a third time. All three times, there have been BSODs.

If that is your problem then all the other dump files are not valid, most likely. If memory is the problem, almost anything and everything will be blamed, even though they are not at fault.

Please download from this site only http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip

Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you may have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask..

Hello,

I originally thought I had fixed my crashing problems with some new bios updates but apparently that hasn't eliminated it at all.

Lately it's been crashing a bit more. I tried doing a Disk Cleanup as well as an error check. That didn't seem to remedy anything. I've attached a zip folder with all the recent crash results and such.

I've run Memtest86+ before but had gotten 8 passes. This was with all 4x8gb memory sticks still installed. I have not tried to run the test with individual sticks.

Please help if possible. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, (after applying the card in another port) stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark. Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Take a screenshot of the furmark window before closing it. Upload the screenshot for us. And ley us know if you experience any artifacts or crashes during the test.

Ok this is my third attempt at writing a thread about my BSODS before being rudely interrupted by said Regular , BSOD common ntfs.sys BSODS so i'll keep it short for now and exapand in between resets Regular BSOD usually within one hour of reboot No specific task causing it anything really browsing net playing games music movies all cause it tried to use Seatools for the Hard Regular BSOD , ntfs.sys common drive A-ram gig SSD for the operating system but not sure if it worked on the ssd Extended test failed immediately normal test seemed to never complete aborted after hours tried using chkdsk r at command prompt from dvd boot up instead both the SSD and my other drive containing games and programs showed no issues with chkdsk tried windows memtest for a couple of hours initially but will run it longer overnight tonite nothing showed up there from the brief test I've reviewed temperatures and voltages while gaming and other tasks and dont see anything excessive or out of place there figured it was SSD corrupted anyway even though chkdsk showed nothing so tried a system image restore using macrium no change to type and regularity of bsods Attached is the dump zip hopefully its all there but so far attempts to actually use the program linked by this forum has directly resulted in a BSOD halfway through the process Attachment

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

It is almost impossible to spot trends from a single DMP file so if you have m ore than one please upload them. If you only have one please wait until the computer crashes again then upload both.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).

Would anyone be able to shed some light on this bug check error. Nearly once per day I get a bug check error and the system then BSODs.

You might see from the log back on the 19th the system would BSOD every hour. This was a permissions issue that I was able to resolve. I have been slowly working through the event viewer and down we get no errors warnings or critical's, just this bug check.

Any help would be well received.

Hi guys,

i've been holding off posting here for a few days in the vane hope that I could resolve the issues i've been experiencing myself.

I've been having regular blue screens in Vista x86 SP1, either while booting or while using the system with moderate intensity. Certain tasks which seem to trigger the BSOD include burning a DVD or opening an application.

I've got Speedfan running most of the time but that hasn't really helped much as it appears to be running within normal guidelines.

I've also tried updating my SATA drivers to the latest ones from Asus (dated 2007) for my board which Vista suggested may be the culprit.

I've attached my minidumps in case anyone is able to help me out and point me in the right direction to get this fixed. All help is much appreciated!

I'd say confirm all drivers are up to date
Then go and do a full Memtest (7Passes)
It is possible that high memory resourced programs, such as Norton Antivirus (if installed) could cause this too

Hello,

I have been getting regular BSOD when I am playing Games. In most cases it happens when I play Battlefield 3, Guild Wars 2 Beta and Warhammer: Space Marine.

I tried updating every Driver on my System but that didn't fix anything.

I also ran several Virus Scan with no result.

I bought this PC in March 2011, invested alot of money and now I am at the end of my abilities t to solve the problem on my own.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I have been having lots of BSOD's lately sometimes - a day sometimes every - days or so I don't use the computer that much so it's BSOD's idea no why my on system, Regular hard to say how regular they happen I tried looking at the minidumps myself but i dont know what to look for it seems it's all internal windows processes messing up without drivers or so being at fault not sure about this though i am a newbie when it comes to this I can say I checked my RAM earlier and one dimm was faulty so i removed it from the computer somewhere in december It's supposed to come back tomorrow all crashes in late Regular BSOD's on my system, no idea why dec and january have been with the good dimm I tested the good dimm for about hours in memtest usb-boot without problems so i assume its good I had one bluescreen jan minidump file i think due to disconnecting a USB device while my computer just detected it I don't think this is related to the other ones Windows is - x ultimate see profile - the original installed OS on this system - It's a full retail version bought in China though - The hardware is about - months old have always had this problem i think didn't use computer much - All hardware and specs see profile - I have not tried to reinstall windows Updated all drivers BIOS and stuff I thought that could help Running everything at stock speed no overclocking Have attached all files as stated in the sticky topic Hope someone can help because i feel i tried many things but nothing seems to help Thanks in advance Kaolla

A:Regular BSOD's on my system, no idea why

Hi Kaolia and welcome to the forum. I looked at your four most recent dumps. They all blame Windows system drivers, which are highly unlikely to be the real cause, and all four indicate memory corruption. Three of them blame Direct X. This si usually a sign that something is causing conflicts.

I see that you have ASRock OC Tuner installed. If you are overclocking anything - CPU, RAM- video - please return to default values while you are troubleshooting.

I recommend that you uninstall any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads. Select uninstall; do NOT select reinstall.

Here is a free alternative CD virtualization program that does not use the sptd.sys driver.

Out of date drivers can cause conflicts, memory corruption and BSOD's. I find the following outdated drivers loaded on your system. One is quite obsolete. Update these drivers through the links provided.

inpoutx64.sys Fri Oct 17 19:01:16 2008 - I have been unable to determine exactly what this driver belongs to. LCDWriter maybe? Google shows a multitude of problems with it. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, find this driver, rename it from .sys to .bak. Reboot and it will not load. It will break whatever device or program it is associated with.



Unistall sptd.sys, udate or rename the above drivers, reboot and see how your systems runs. Please post back and let us know. If you get another BSOD, upload it and we will go from there. If you need help with the drivers, please post.

Hello, This is my first time on sevenfourums.

Ima just jump right in to it.

A recent build for a friend doenst seems to be turning out quite right. I've tried re-installing windows, CHKDSK, disk cleanup.

I have tried re-installing video/graphic cards drivers-Has dual graphics cards been know to cause BSOD?

I believe it could be a hardware defect with the RAM. I did rum Memtest 86 and received an error once, and never appeared to show again so I just ignored it, It might be coming to bite me now

I would like a second opinion on the situation please and thank you in advance.

Six different apparent causes in 15 crashes. From video to hardware, to memory. My gut feeling is it is a memory issue caused by your Avast. It was pointed to in at least 3 crashes, and the memory in 5.

I would remove and replace it with MSE at least to test. If you continue to crash we can start investigating the memory exception

Avast can be a contributing cause of BSOD'S . Please remove and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST
