I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey!
I get a computer crash while im playing skyrim. Its currently the only task I'v been experiencing this crash. The computer freezes, in the last frame of the game. I get a nasty sound in my headset, like a eletric interface kinda sound. The keyboard and mouse gets disabled (no lights or response)

I have a whole new computer, with new parts.
running windows 7 professional 64bit

Any ideas?

A:Computer crash playing Skyrim

Hi -

There are no BSOD memory dumps nor traces of actual BSODs.

I did find 6 Event Viewer Entries indicating sudden system shutdown (could have been hard power-down) -

Code:
Event[78]:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Date: 2011-11-25T00:08:26.192
Level: Critical
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.
This error could be caused if the system stopped responding,
crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
You said the entire system is new - all hardware parts? Did you or another assemble it?

Run Speccy - Download Speccy 1.14.288 - FileHippo.com
- "File" | "Publish Snapshot" | Paste URL into your next post

Keep Speccy up - check temps when system freezes.

Also keep ResMon up - look for activity spikes -
START | type resmon

I had a desktop that was just sitting for about 2 years without use and just hooked it up to my TV to make a media center. I immediately installed Windows 7 and had a fresh slate so old software problems shouldn't be an issue. All drivers are up to date.

The problem is that whenever a game is played, it will randomly create a black screen with buzzing sound. Some games is completely random, other games crash at about the same point. Sometimes the video signal cuts out to the TV, sometimes it just stays black. Either way it needs to be manually turned off. I have checked GPU temperatures and they are about 80C under load. I have ran memtest86 and no errors on the RAM. I just don't know what else it could be.

The specs are:

Intel Core 2 3000MHz
2x2GB Corsair DDR2-400
ATI 4850
OCZ 500W Power Supply

A:Black screen crash and sound loop while playing games

If that +12v rail voltage is accurate then that would definately be a problem. Check the voltage in the BIOS as it could be a simple case of HWMonitor not reading the sensor output correctly.

Can you give us a DXDiag report.

Click Start and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the Run box.

When the dxdiag window opens click the Save All Information button and save the text file to your desktop or another location so you know where it is.

Then copy and paste the entire content of that text file into a reply here.

My computer either crashes or got frozen repeatedly on the regular mode (not safemode) . Each time it crashes differently . Sometimes it crashed with blue screen each time with a different code, Sometimes black screen, sometimes frozen, mouse cannot move . Sometimes crash or frozen right after starting with just a move out the mouse, but sometimes good for a few days with no problem . Safe mode usually ok, but sometimes it crash too . I tried to run window diagnostic tool and memtest, both are ok . There were one time though after it crash and restart, it ask to run window diagnostic test and it says hardware problem . Anybody knows what's wrong with my computer ?

New fresh install of windows 8 updated to 8.1 with all my motherboard drivers etc up to date. Display drivers are the newest Omega drivers from AMD.

I installed steam and decided to install csgo to my ssd/C: drive since it's my most played game. Now I can play the game fine but after a short amount of time the game and display drivers will crash giving me a black screen and sound loop. I let it sit there for a while so I could get a bsod and crash dump to happen.

Since then I also updated my ssd to the latest firmware and reinstalled my AMD drivers and the problem still persists. I have no other games installed at the moment so if you wan't me to check if the crash happens with other games let me know.

Here is my debug info

If you are using Windows Update to check for your hardware drivers there is a reasonable chance they are not up to date. Your best option is to get the drivers directly from the PC manufacturers website or directly from the graphics card manufacturers site.

What are you temperatures and voltages (power supply outputs) like? Use HWMonitor to get an idea, take two screenshots of the HWMonitor windows. One with your PC idle at the desktop and then leave HWMonitor running in the background, run a game for a few minutes then exit and screenshot it again. Post the two pictures in a reply here.

Overclocking -
I recommend if you are overclocking any hardware, that you reset these values within the BIOS to their default values in order to increase the stability of your system.

Please run the following tests for your graphics card and RAM:
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Run Memtest86+ for least 7-8 passes, and preferrly overnight as it can take a while to fully complete.

Test each RAM stick individually, if an error is found then move the same RAM stick into the next DIMM slot and test again, if errors are found for the same RAM stick in every available slot then you have a faulty RAM module. On the other hand, if no errors are found in the next slot or the other slots for the same RAM module, then you have a faulty DIMM slot.

Test each RAM stick and every motherboard DIMM slot available.

Graphics Card:Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Read all the steps within the hardware test tutorials very carefully, as stress tests is designed run components to their maximum capacity, in order to point out failing or faulty hardware components.

Use the following program to monitor your hardware temperatures during the stress test:CPUID HWMonitor
Hard Drive:Disk Check
CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World
SeaTools for Windows | Seagate
Scan for corrupted or missing Windows files with:SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot
Please check for the latest driver updates (may have to install a older driver) for your graphics card on the manufacturer's website, and check for any driver compatibility issues with:Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

Temp Monitoring

Check for heating issues using Speccy or HWMonitor.

Speccy - System Information - Free Download
HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Upload a screen shot with either of the tools: Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums\

Run Disk Check on your Hard Drive for file system errors and bad sectors on it.

 Hard Drive Diagnostics
Double click and open my computer.
Right click on desired drive and hit properties.
Click on tools tab and Check now.

Read complete instructions on the tutorial: Disk Check

Other Tests:

Upload a screenshot of your hard disk using Crystal Disk Info.
Make a hard drive test from the hard drive manufacturers website.
Test your Hard Drive with SeaTools.

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.RAM - Test with Memtest86+

The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.*Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.*If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
*If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.*If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
*If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.
4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all the other motherboard slots.

If Part 2 testing shows errors, and all tests in Part 3 show errors, you will need to test the RAM sticks in another computer and/or test other RAM in your computer to identify the problem.

In this way, you can identify whether it is a bad stick of RAM, a bad motherboard, or incompatibility between the sticks.

Errors are sometimes found after 8 passes.

Memtest should be done overnight.

Try disabling your antivirus. Skyrim will crash occasionally anyway.
I would get rid of McAfee and Use Microsoft Security Essentials, it's free which is a bonus.
I would also download malwarebytes and run it http://shop.malwarebytes.org/lpa/34...54dc2c93bd02&gclid=CPzGnJS87K0CFdCP7Qod2SDd3w

Guys, I've been experiencing two very weird problems which are possibly related but I'm not sure...

First, my display started to 'twitch' from side to side, not a flicker but a movement of the entire screen image to the right and left at random intervals very quickly. This only happens with an application open on screen such as Firefox, but not with Microsoft applications like IE or Office. it is not the monitor, if I bring up the monitor menus the twitch is still going on in the background.

Second, the display has started to go completely black when I go online... The strange thing is that this only happens on the Google home page. This happens both on Firefox and IE.

Any ideas? I have no idea what's going on!

Thanks

A:Weird Black Screen on Google and Screen 'Twitch'

If you're 100% sure it's not the monitor, the next thing i'd be looking at is the video adapter, aka graphics card. Make sure you have the latest drivers for the correct model installed (ie. nVidia or ATi) and that your display settings are correctly configured - correct screen refresh rate particularly.

It's strange that it only seems to happen with your net browsers as these have next-to-no bearing on your graphics - I'd check there's no other forces at play here; malware for instance. Bit of a long shot, but still a possibility.

after minutes of hanging in that weird startup screen considering whether to hard reboot or not it went into start repair still there now To make a long story short I suspected something wrong with my hard drive due to a software giving me an i o error after some research I am not knowledgable when it comes to computers I ran chkdsk when I woke up it was still running as it should be in the process of 'replacing bad clusters' for certain files so there was something wrong alright and was at After leaving my computer for ten minutes I found my computer had gone to a black screen then.. screen, weird 8 black then then ran chkdsk screen, startup hrs, and seeing as I was reluctant to do a hard reboot I chkdsk ran 8 hrs, then black screen, then weird startup screen, then.. waited it out and it moved to a windows safe mode startup screen but only the big cursor and standard background was present chkdsk ran 8 hrs, then black screen, then weird startup screen, then.. nothing else see attached picture After ten minutes it went to startup repair which has been running for the past half hour What has happened during the ten minutes I was away and chkdsk was still only at why did the subsequent events unfold as they did What can I do now

Hello Kayron can you still get into safe mode did you say? If so go in and run sfc /scannow

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

if that doesn't run then maybe you have a hardware problem.

Built my own computer, and for a while it ran fine, but now when I try to play League of Legends it will crash often. Sometimes the game freezes, and no method of input will change the screen until I hold down the power button. In this case my speakers emit a high pitched noise. Other times the screen will go black, and the computer will automatically restart. Other times I will get a blue screen with the error code 0x00007e. Please help this is getting very annoying!

I should note that it is not often that it crashes, sometimes it will happen twice in a short time, sometimes it will take days.

Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
Probably hardware. Clean out dust in the system, if you have overclocked stop and revert to original settings. The link contains the most probable solution to your problem. IF the problem cannot be fixed i suggest lowering the vcore a tad tad bit.
Here are stresstests to possibly help rule a few things out. : Stresstests:
Ram : RAM - Test with Memtest86+
General hardware: Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 ( (Three pre-set configurations are available: Small FFTs and In-place FFTs, and Blend. Small and In-place modes primarily test the FPU and the caches of the CPU, whereas the Blend mode tests everything, including the memory.)
Graphics: Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark (Do the above Graphics test only with the latest drivers, and then Run it until the temperatures stop increasing; should be less then 10 minutes. If you don't see any crazy glitches or distortion on the screen, The test most likely passed. Take note if the Temperature gets too high, or you see Visual artifact - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia to stop the test.)
Good luck.

Stop 0x124 is a hardware error.... if you are overclocking try resetting your processor to standard settings and see if that helps ... if you continue to get BSOD here are some more things you may want to consider ..

Quote:
Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
Synopsis:

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:
1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable ways.

2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled. If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.

3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware. It is good practice to run the latest drivers anyway.

4) Update the motherboard BIOS according to the manufacturer's instructions. Their website should provide detailed instructions as to the brand and model-specific procedure.

5) Rarely, bugs in the OS may cause "false positive" 0x124 events where the hardware wasn't complaining but Windows thought otherwise (because of the bug). At the time of writing, Windows 7 is not known to suffer from any such defects, but it is nevertheless important to always keep Windows itself updated.

6) Attempt to (stress) test those hardware components which can be put through their paces artificially. The most obvious examples are the RAM and HDD(s). For the RAM, use the in-built memory diagnostics (run MDSCHED) or the 3rd-party memtest86 utility to run many hours worth of testing. For hard drives, check whether CHKDSK /R finds any problems on the drive(s), notably "bad sectors". Unreliable RAM, in particular, is deadly as far as software is concerned, and anything other than a 100% clear memory test result is cause for concern. Unfortunately, even a 100% clear result from the diagnostics utilities does not guarantee that the RAM is free from defects - only that none were encountered during the test passes.

7) As the last of the non-invasive troubleshooting steps, perform a "vanilla" reinstallation of Windows: just the OS itself without any additional applications, games, utilities, updates, or new drivers - NOTHING AT ALL that is not sourced from the Windows 7 disc. Should that fail to mitigate the 0x124 problem, jump to the next steps. Otherwise, if you run the "vanilla" installation long enough to convince yourself that not a single 0x124 crash has occurred, start installing updates and applications slowly, always pausing between successive additions long enough to get a feel for whether the machine is still free from 0x124 crashes. Should the crashing resume, obviously the very last software addition(s) may be somehow linked to the root cause.
If stop 0x124 errors persist despite the steps above, and the harware is under warranty, consider returning it and requesting a replacement which does not suffer periodic MCE events. Be aware that attempting the subsequent harware troubleshooting steps may, in some cases, void your warranty:
8) Clean and carefully remove any dust from the inside of the machine. Reseat all connectors and memory modules. Use a can of compressed air to clean out the RAM DIMM sockets as much as possible.

9) If all else fails, start removing items of hardware one-by-one in the hope that the culprit is something non-essential which can be removed. Obviously, this type of testing is a lot easier if you've got access to equivale... Read more

Hello to the community!!

This was a custom built PC (OS included- currently using) that I brought from an online seller last month.
I've been experiencing several BSODs for the last 2 weeks,. most of the BSODs occur after playing Skyrim though I just had another one right after booting when its just about to load the desktop.

Note:
I've intentionally disabled automatic updates (after SP1 update) since it slows down my already slow internet connection, I do however have SP1 installed. I also updated my graphics card driver and I installed Skyrim.

I am playing Skyrim and recently i've started adding mods through Nexus Mod Manager, the game crashed occasionally after playing long hours. Today I got a BSOD.

A:BSOD playing Skyrim

1. Uninstall kaspersky internet security 2012: Removal tool for Kaspersky Lab products (uninstall completely before going to next step)

2. Install: Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

3. msconfig - boot faster and crash less.

1. Click on the Windows 7 start icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.

2. Type msconfig in the search box and then either press enter on your keyboard or double-click on the msconfig program that appears in the search results.

3. Windows 7 will launch Microsoft's System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab.

4. This takes you to a page with a list of "startup items." Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary (Leave your Anti Virus Checked), others are simply a waste of RAM.

5. Click on the OK button.

6. A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click on "Restart" and your computer will automatically reboot.

7. That's it! Your computer should now boot faster and crash less.

If you ever want to turn on any of the startup items you disabled with msconfig , just run msconfig again.

4. Scan for Spyware / Malware: Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.62 - FileHippo.com (Full Scan)

Wait for a Bsod, report back if you need further assistance.

Thanks - Ant

I am suspecting that my BSOD is being caused by AMD Catalyst 12.1 (since its a preview and not official WHQL drivers) but im also speculating it may be Anti Virus' too aggressive real time protection. I am attaching my minidump to the post.

The only clue i have (which i can't read, and yes this is the first time ive had ANY custom built PC ive made in 6 years since picking up this hobby) is the error code that windows 7 gives me upon rebooting and is as follows:

BCCode: 3b
BCP1: 00000000C0000005
BCP2: FFFFF88004BD9B7D
BCP3: 000000000000000
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1
please let me know (if you can) what program is causing this.

A:BSOD playing Skyrim

The blue screen was caused by DirectX, which could mean: 1. DirectX needs to be updated; 2. see Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX; or 3. your graphics card drivers are causing issues.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Recently purchased Lenovo W540 workstation. Tested it after arrival for a couple days, didn't experience any problems. After reinstalling Windows 7 I've been experiencing varying BSOD. They have occurred while playing Skyrim, though this is the only GPU intensive task I've done on the machine.

Hi there,

My computer BSOD today while playing Skyrim. If it's possible I would like to know what caused it and how I can prevent it from happening again.

I also got a BSOD on the 6th although I cannot remember what I was doing when it happened. Any help with that would also be appreciated.

Please view System Spec on my profile for system information. [Edit: just noticed there's a little drop down arrow at the bottom left of this post... you can tell I'm new around here haha]

Thanks

Hello,

some times, when I play at World of Warcraft or Skyrim I get an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD.
I have:
Windows 7 Professional 32bit
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 motherboard
4GB Micron 16HTF12864AY-667B3 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5770
Realtek ALC885/889A/890 @ Intel 82801IB ICH9
I already tried to:
Update all available motherboard drivers;
Update graphic card and sound card drivers;
Run a memtest.
The problem is still here. I attach the last minidump file I got this morning.

Could someone help me to solve this problem?

- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point... Read more

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps Let us know if you need help STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

Hi mancowherd.

A stop 0x116 is a display/graphics related issue. The noticeable probable causes are
Overclocking.
Overheating
Dust allocation inside the computer
Power supply issue
Malfunctioning display driver
Failing GPU.
So first ou have to observe how it is running without overclocking any hardware viz. CPU, GPU and RAM. Set all them to default clock values.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

Open the computer and clean all the air vents and fan grills so that it can blow the air out efficiently.

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.
eXtreme Power Supply Calculator
Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.

How long you ran furmark? Did it show any artifacts? Or did it crash during the stress test?

Plus, at least as a test, install the NVIDIA DRIVERS 314.22WHQL only, as it is the most stable version of the display driver released lately.
Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features3D Vision Control Driver
3D Vision Driver
Graphics Driver
HD Audio Driver
PhysX
nvidia Update
(Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:
Let us know the results.

** Switchable graphics environment has some inherent drawback that it sometimes fail during switching graphics from the onboard to the dedicated and vice-versa. That is tough to get rid of. But if all the tests yield clear results, the situation my be narrowed down to it.

thanks for your help and time.

Welcome to the forums Mfunn, I had a look through your files and a few thigs strike me right off the bat, First and fore most please uninstall daemon tools then download and run this tool:

DuplexSecure - Downloads

When the tool runs if the uninstall box is grayed out you are done and you can close out of the window, if not click uninstall and let the tool do its work. Do not click the install button as this will install a driver known to cause BSODs on to your computer.

Next please check and see if you can find any updates for your Graphics card driver you can check the manufacturere website for them: http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx
Last please see if you can find updates for your Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
which can be found here: Marvell - Support

I'm not quite sure what you've done to be honest, it looks like you've enabled your Intel 400 graphics and disabled your graphics card but the drivers for both are still installed.
Which are you planning on using?
Both display drivers are getting flagged so I need to know which one you are going to use...

Your USB 3.0 driver is causing issues, and it's outdated.

I have been trying to play xcom for the past week and every time during the first - minutes the game crashes along with the pc and I get a red screen with no text red 2 xcom playing screen while crash I have to manually turn off my computer and my pc creates a red screen crash while playing xcom 2 dump file This has happened every time except twice when I was able to play the game for over hours straight My pc was playing games fine it's just xcom right now I uploaded my dump files they are all from when my pc crashed from playing xcom and the first three were red screen crashes the last one was a bsod I am going to lost everything I have done and checked so far -I have turned off just about all of the extra graphical settings there are in the options menu I even lowered the settings of the game even though my ps specs can handle the game on max settings -I tried to validate game files through steam -I tried to play in windowed mode and turned off antivirus -I ran memtest the newest version for several hours with zero errors and passes -I ran stress tests on my cpu and gpu again no problems there and if my power supply was able to support my gpu through furmark that means it should isn't faulty correct -I ran driver verifier for several hours no crash -I am pretty sure all of my drivers are up to date should I download driver booster or another software to check that Have you heard of these red screen crashes from other people and xcom since it is a new game and it could just have problems Also windows might be to blame but there's nothing I can do about that Do my dump files say what is causing the crashes

Can somebody tell me why this is happening from time to time? I have no idea about what the problem may be and I couldn't find it on Google.

I assume that it is something with Windows 7, maybe a corrupted system file or something, please help me out here!!

A:Weird black bars on screen.. help please

Update or reinstall your Display driver from the Support Downloads webpage for the Device maker.

If this fails, check your logs and system resources for clues to OS corruption or hardware problems: troubleshooting steps

Have you done a lot of tweaking or used registry cleaner crapware which almost always corrupts Win7?
If so, clean reinstall adapting these steps to get a perfect reinstall, then refrain from tweaking: Reinstalling Windows 7

If possible, change your GMail password from a different computer, if you haven't already. Can you take a snapshot of your screen and what the black box looks like? Press the Print Screen button on your keyboard then paste into a paint program. Attach the image to your next post.

Ive been getting a black screen with movable cursor for weeks now Posted over some forums about it without much of a fix Tried a few things even formatted and reinstalled a fresh copy of Win and bought a new SSD drive for a boot drive AND it still does it Ive had several workarounds to get to the desktop one of which was to change the boot sequence in the bios then change it back to the boot drive and it would come up But after a while that stopped working and I would try the repair windows way by putting in the Win disc But it would still do it the next day again So now what works is actually when I put in the Win disc in my drive for whatever reason it boots right up WTH If I leave the disc out or put another disc in it does the black screen again What is the magic in keeping the Win disc in the drive even when I have cursor screen weird! So with Black then... the first boot device as my SSD drive with windows on it Clueless So weird! Black screen with cursor then... I recently added a HDTV as a second monitor via hdmi my PC monitor uses DVI I have a ASUS Latest drivers as well I still wonder if that could be a issue using dvi and hdmi and or the video driver Anyway thanks for any input

Current Specs Dell XPS Intel Core Duo GHz GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GT MB Windows Vista Home Black screen, floating box... weird Premium -bit If anything additional is needed let me know and I ll get it here at a sprint The Problem s Now I m not a hundred percent sure that this belongs in the Vista forum but I have this uneasy feeling that I should be blaming Vista for this since I never had Black screen, weird floating box... this problem with XP I bought this computer around September and up until a couple of weeks ago I had just about no problems anything problematic was solved by running as administrator until I installed the Insurgency mod for Half-Life The mod would sporadically crash and send me to a black screen as if my computer was adjusting itself back to my desktop The problem is that the screen stayed black and if I let it sit for a while a mysterious floating box would pop up and move about my screen The contents of the box are Not Optimum Mode Recommended Mode x Hz The funny thing is that s exactly what I run my computer at I stopped playing Insurgency because of this and moved on to Call of Duty CoD played just fine until I decided to quit the game through the main menu at which point it would do the whole black screen - gt floating box thing Here s where it gets worse Since all of this started happening I ve tried rolling back my graphics drivers completely uninstalling and reinstalling them hell last night I even reinstalled Vista and deleted the Windows old folder The problem persists If I reboot there s a chance that after the Windows loading bar is done sliding back and forth that it goes to the black screen and floating box Sometimes when I step away from my computer for a little bit and the monitor goes black screensaver is set to none is this black screen some sort of hibernate or power saving feature and I come back to the computer I move the mouse to get back to the desktop and the screen just stays black After all of this I m kind of beginning to miss the blue screen - at least there was something to look at Please help I ve been through a couple of forums with this problem and no one has had any solutions so far nbsp

ok, this is confusing the heck out of me.

on my screen is a black line approximately a pixel thick that runs horizontally over everything.

When I change my screen resolution (changing it from 1280x1024 to 1152x864 and back again) it disappears.

It shows back up roughly about once week in differnt places (closer to bottom, closer to top, smack dab in the middle, etc.) This has been happening for months. Doesn't affect my work all that much. I am just a little curious as to what causes it.

Anyone else experiencing something like this?

For a while now I have had random black screen crashes I cannot quite remember but I believe they started after I changed a bunch of drivers around for some reason It was crashing quite often mostly in source games like Left Dead I decided I would reformat After the reformat I installed Black Screen Crash all my stuff again with the laters drivers and software I threw on an external hard-drive It hadn't crashed in a non-source game for two weeks but It would crash every Black Screen Crash time I tried to play Left for Dead normally after and hour and a half or so I thought it might be the local content since i transferred it from the first windows into the external hardrive and onto the new windows installation to save bandwidth I deleted the local content incase it was corrupt or something I redownloaded it and Black Screen Crash just played a hour game without crashing but I just crashed while playing oblivion within an hour This is of course unnerving I thought I had narrowed it down to an issue with the source engine and for the first time in a few weeks it crashed on a normal game I am running a GT XXX with gigs of ram and an Athlon X at ghz My PSU is W with all extra connectors plugged into the video card pin one It is not a temperature issue I have logged a maximum of degrees playing these games CPU max If it helps when it crashes there is a greenish line for half a second and then it is gone The monitor goes into standby and the sound loops I am using onboard Realtek HD Audio Which led me to believe it was the culprit but I have never had any problems with it before and when I reformatted I used the drivers off the disc for it It has never crashed in an application or idle only in games and even non-intensive games Which do however have sound Thanks in advance for reading the lengthy post if you have any suggestions they are of course welcome and if can do anything on my part Like a Dxdiag file or a Hijackthis log I would be more than happy to provide Thanks Again

Check Device Manager. Click "show hidden devices" and report any flagged devices.

Check Event Viewer. Look for chronic, significant and/or errors that occur at the same time of the crash.

Post full system specs on motherboard, video card, PSU and memory.

Burn a bootable CD with memtest and verify the memory is good.

Are you running overclocked ? If so, back down to factory specs and see if the problem continues.

Have you run chkdsk recently ?

Hey Joe:
Are you using an intergrated graphics from your motherboard or a installed graphics card? if your using onboard graphics, I would uninstall any or all graphic drivers, confirm the drivers you need first, download them from the
maker of the mobo or graphics card maker, disable your antivirus before you
install any drivers as a rule! Also you maybe experiencing some type of power
corruption, like your hard drive, powersupply, or a weak or poor connection or
a chip set over heating in your VGA, I would power down and check connections from your powersupply and re-seat any installed cards attached
to your motherboard, feel free to send me a message and I will try to help you
any way I can! Rickman45

This started either screen crash once exactly day black a after loading x Server a share screen app or after a Flash update both were done in February When I click on a streaming video or any website or software which uses streaming video such as Skype my laptop instantly goes to black screen with backlighting An external monitor doesn't work either It happens with Firefox or IE or in the case black screen crash exactly once a day of Skype no browser I've uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash and updated Shockwave and uninstalled x and turned my video hardware acceleration all the way down but something has permanently changed in my video settings I am getting ready to move everything off and wipe the computer clean but I'm still puzzled about one thing Why does it happen exactly once and only once a day It's so predictable that I've established a routine of clicking on a streaming video as soon as I turn the computer on just to make it hang so I won't have to worry about it the rest of the day How or what process or message is my computer getting the first time I boot in the morning that it doesn't get the second third fourth or fifth time I boot that day Toshiba M XP SP Antivirus and Firewall installed and up-to-date Thanks

A:black screen crash exactly once a day

Hi Welcome to TSF

First thing.. it happens when you have just restarted the computer because you want it to crash so you can go on for the rest of the day without having the same issue
lets try something
Lets make sure that your windows are not booting with tons of application at the same time
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

After that is done Restart the computer
Wait for all the windows stuff to load and when you are on your desktop wait for another 2 minutes and then open up the browser or video
see if it crashes

Hi all,
Im new to these forums and my friend pointed them out to me.
Im rather desperate at this point since i can not figure out what is wrong with my computer.
When im playing Company of Heroes, Napoleon Total War, or Empire Total War, (these are the games ive tried) the screen will go black and the computer will crash after 5-15 mins of play. I spent 6 hours on remote terminal with microsoft while they fixed windows 7 problems and after that it still isnt working. My drivers were updated during that time period.
Im really out of options as i do have the hardware to run these games, they actually worked for a long time and now they have just randomly decided not to.
I would prefer not to completely wipe the hardrive (I already re-upgraded to W7 ultimate to fix the windows problems).
Any or all advice would help.

A:Black screen Crash

We could do with some more information about your system really.

What is the exact make and model of the PC, assuming its a 'big brand' pre-built like HP, Dell, Acer etc?
Have you changed / upgraded any hardware in it since you got it?

A DxDiag report would also probably be useful. Click Start and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the run box then hit enter. When the dxdiag window opens click the 'Save All Information' button on the bottom right of the window, save the .txt file to your desktop so you know where it is. Then copy and paste the entire contents of that text file into a reply here.

Hi,

My computer started giving me trouble with a blue screen and a long message on it and then shutting down. I don't remember what the message said. But at this point, when I turn my computer on, I get a black screen with the following message:

"Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report this problem as : load needed DLLs for HAL.
Please contact your support person to report this problem."

It is an E Machine T4165 and came with Windows XP Home already on it.

My questions are:

1. How do I get it running again? I have a restore CD that came with it. Will that do it?

2. If I use the restore CD, will I lose all files I have on the computer? Is there any way to save or recover them?

Thanks.

Hi
I have recently upgraded to windows 7 on my netbook and since this I have been having problem with it randomly crashing the screen goes black and I can't do anything with it. Sometimes it restarts on its own and gives me an option to check out solutions but to no avail, I have also noticed that when windows is starting up, intially I have a black screen which eventually does rectify itself to the desktop... but its not right. Any ideas how I can put this right? I have minidump details if you need it...

Could you zip the minidump and upload it for debugging?

You might also want to upgrade your video driver

And run a system file check to verify and repair

to run type cmd in search>rightclick and run as admin>SFC /SCANNOW

let us know the results

Hello my apologies if I am posting this in the wrong section but I am desperate for help and just found this website I ll Crash Screen Black try to be a thorough Black Screen Crash as possible describing my problem and what I know about it to help you help me I just built my first PC during December of last year and I got a friend to help me build it Specifics ATX Guardian Case Asus Z Pro Motherboard AMD Radeon r graphics card gb ssd gb RAM Intel I - GHz Corsair TX Power Supply Now on to the problem After a day or two of having this computer I started to notice little wavy horizontal lines that would run from the top of the screen to the bottom while I was on it I finally got those to go away by using an HDMI cord instead of VGA I m not sure if that is related to this but the real problem is that whenever I am watching a video on the internet sometimes my computer will crash It used to be with grey vertical lines and after messing with some things whenever it happened they were all different colors I m not sure if this is limited to just videos or not because I m pretty sure it s happened a few times when my PC was just idoling I started a download of Elder Scrolls Online which I had to leave going all night once and woke up with a frozen computer and all that was up on the screen before the crash was the games launcher downloader Anyways after months of changing things and trying different fixes now when it crashes it s just a black screep with looping audio from whatever I was listening to Below I will post a few more specifics in a list Things I ve tried Updated drivers BIOS GPU CPU AUDIO Cleaned out my entire tower very thoroughly tweaked power settings set GPU voltage to constant through MSI afterburner move my GPU to another gpu slot on the mother board Another important note this has NEVER happened once in a video games I had it happen in games like runescape and the original HALO but I have a hunch its because they don t require very much power out of your graphics card But games like cs go wow far cry I can play the hell out of for hours on in but God forbid I want to watch a movie It always crashes during the good parts too lol But the only thing I can do is a hard restart Thanks for reading I ll be waiting anxiously for any replies nbsp

recently I've been having problems with my laptop when I'm watching movies on hulu and sometimes when I'm playing games. basically the screen goes completely black. everything else is working because I can do quicksaves or I can shut down firefox with alt+f4 but nothing brings back my video until I restart.

I'm not sure if its flash 9 causing this or something else but I've had my laptop for over a year now and it started happening about a month ago.

specs are:

I have (Toshiba Satelite)laptop with Win7 & IE9 that will have a boot up with black screen
occuring after startup. The black screen states PXE - E61 media test failure check cable and
PXE - MOF existing PXE ROM. Then the computer gets past this black screen and finishes booting up.
I will then experience a blue screen crash intermittently, seems to happen when on the internet,
but not sure. The blue screen has a full screen info that last 2 to 3 seconds and I'm unable to
read it all. It does state crash dump towards end of message. The computer will go blank then reboot on its own
showing black screen info again. Usually after this reboot things run somewhat ok, but somewhat slower. Have run
malware bytes, avast, super anti-spyware and c cleaner. Checked all updates and drivers with no help
from these. Any suggestions and is this something Mybleepingcomputer can fix?

A:BSOD playing Skyrim - various errors and stops

Actually don't worry about it guys. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and replace my motherboard, CPU and GPU. I have found many posts on the internet from people with the same motherboard and CPU having the same exact problems all unsolved. I think the GPU maybe has issues now because what all the crashes have done to the computer stress wise. I have often seen after a crash the screen saying over temperature error. So I have effectively cooked my computer I guess.

A:BSOD While Playing Skyrim, BCC code 1000007e

Hello there Shazbot,

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (Cx05) probably a driver.
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have a Raid update its Driver.

Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5-7 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Driver Verifier

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition.
Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is.
But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver.
Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows.
If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise.

NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like.
From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

If you are using win 8 add these
- Concurrency Stress Test
- DDI compliance checking

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen.
Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly.
The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.
If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Thanks to JGriff2 & Usasma.

Hi all,

My computer used to crash alot when playing skyrim. This stopped recently when I changed my drivers. However, the BSOD started again recently. I do not know the reason behind this, as I am still using the same drivers that I thought fixed the problem. Is it software related (mods, glitches, etc.) or hardware related? The last BSOD happened to me while I was NOT playing skyrim and was just on steam... I have posted the 5 .dmp files attached in a ZIP format here. The most recent one is the steam BSOD while the others are all Skyrim BSOD

Thank you

Is Windows 7 . . . - x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes
- an OEM or full retail version? OEM
- What is the age of system (hardware)? Less than a month (Time i've had it anyway)
- What is the age of OS installation? have not reinstalled

Sometimes I will get BSOD's and other times I will get unexpected I/O errors from any program
That is running (wmplayer.exe, explorer.exe, various system EXE's) and then the system will just
auto restart and not actually crash.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.

* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hello! So I've been getting these BSODs for the past month only while playing games like World of Warcraft and Skyrim. I've tried updating my video card drivers, BIOS, Windows update, scan for viruses. I've even bought new RAM. I thought my video card (Nvidia Geforce GT 240) was dying so I went and bought a new AMD Radeon HD 7850 video card in hopes of fixing my problem. No dice! So before I go and built a new computer from the ground up, can you guys help me fix this problem? I am not good with computers so I've searched the internet for an answer but no luck.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Edit: BSODs are usually SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION errors but there are some others.

A:BSOD playing Skyrim and other graphic applications

Two issues.

1- Bug check 116 (read below)

2-asacpi.sys (yours from 2004)

Asacpi.sys

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Quote:
Please visit this link: Asus tek computer inc. -support- drivers and download p7p55d le

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P5K-VM

Scroll down to the utilities category, then scroll down to the "atk0110 driver for windowsxp/vista/windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).

Download and install it.

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers to check and make sure that the asacpi.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (not before).

Quote:

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

A:BSOD Started When Playing Skyrim, now on startup.

Appears to be an issue with DirectX, which could be the DirectX driver is not up to date or your graphics driver is having issues. First try updating DirectX.

Was playing skyrim, got a BDOS, 0x000000F4, now whenever I boot my PC up, certain things trigger it to freeze up. Steam is 100% of the time. Sometimes chrome does it. Utorrent did it once as well. Don't really know what to do. I've had this PC for a few months now. I custom built it myself.

EDIT: I just realized I fail spelled BSOD. Great. Oh well. I don't know how to fix it, lol.

Uninstall DAEMON Tools Lite:

Code:
Start Menu\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite
Daemon Tools is known to cause BSODs and other crashes with Windows 7. Windows provides it's own built-in features which are much more stable, and a third-party alternative is:MagicISO
Note: Please use the BSOD posting instructions to upload the .dmp files

A:BSOD playing Skyrim, error code 116

I note you do not have an antivirus or windows updates enabled. Do you have Windows Update at least let you know when an update is available to download so you can decide to download it? You should use Windows Update at the very least to keep your drivers up to date and install important updates (security updates, for example).

As for the antivirus, I would suggest Microsoft Security Essentials coupled with the free version of Malwarebytes, both of which are free and will help keep your system from getting viruses or malware that can compromise performance and security.
