I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If this is a new computer, as in "never before owned", I would suggest taking it back to the store and exchanging it or having it repaired under the warranty agreement. Is there some reason why this is not an option?

This is a custom-built desktop system I built it at the end of September and it has been running fine with no problems up until this month Since the beginning of the month it has BSODed times Dec nd Dec th Dec th and today Dec nd Each time using quot BlueScreenView quot it shows that the driver causing it was quot ntoskrnl exe quot and occurring random 0x0000003b code: BSOD at error ntoskrnl.exe, in the error code was x b For the BSOD that happened today Windows did not capture a minidump for some reason so I can only speculate that it was the same error There is no real consistency in what BSOD occurring at random in ntoskrnl.exe, error code: 0x0000003b causes it The screen will just randomly quot mess up quot with kaleidoscopic distortion any sound playing will stutter BSOD occurring at random in ntoskrnl.exe, error code: 0x0000003b and then the system crashes to a BSOD I have installed no new hardware since I built the computer The last two programs I installed before this began were Skyrim Nov th and CDBurnerXP Nov th It's hard for me to see how either of these could be the culprit since BSOD occurring at random in ntoskrnl.exe, error code: 0x0000003b it has never BSODed while they were running My only quot guess quot as to what might cause it is a partitioning issue When I first installed Win it took up the whole disk TB with one partition Later I created separate OS and DATA partitions However the Windows disk management utility did not allow me to create the OS partition of the size I wanted it limited me to something like GB I used GParted on an Unbuntu live USB to make the partitions I desired GB OS and GB DATA I think this was a month before and BSODs showed up If this is the problem I will just have to re-intall Windows I may do that anyway since I am going to install a separate hybrid drive for OS and applications Unfortunately I have no system restore points from before Dec th Memtest about passes the Windows memory testing utility and disk check have found no errors I have not run Driver Verifier but I will soon System Specs in quote Quote System Manufacturer Model Number Custom Built OS Windows Home Premium bit OEM disc CPU AMD Phenom II X GHz Motherboard Asus M A T-V EVO Memory G SKILL Ripjaws GB x GB -Pin DDR SDRAM DDR Graphics Card s Asus ATI Radeon HD GB DDR Sound Card Integrated Monitor s Displays Acer AL quot Screen Resolution x Hard Drives SAMSUNG Spinpoint F HD SJ TB RPM MB Cache SATA Gb s quot PSU CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX V W ATX V v quot dump zip quot contains the minidump folder the system health report HTML and the quot Windows NT BSOD jcgriff quot report The system health report is kind of messed up it doesn't seem to know that I have antivirus installed PC Tools AV Free and also claims that the quot PC Tools Data Store quot is not installed properly Not really sure what that even means Will update later if Driver Verifier comes up with anything

A:BSOD occurring at random in ntoskrnl.exe, error code: 0x0000003b

Driver Verifier returned something interesting. When I restarted, Windows initially failed to start, going to a BSOD I had never seen before: SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION with an error code of 0x000000c1. When I next restarted, Windows ran startup recovery and asked me to restore to a restore point. After that, it started normally. For some reason, this BSOD also did not create a minidump.

The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

A:BSOD - BC Code 7f, ntoskrnl.exe

Just did it again. It's not actually blue screening - just powering off suddenly and then saying it wasn't properly shut down when it restarts. That doesn't leave a dump file.

I'm guessing a power issue. Though it's a laptop and has a battery so shouldn't be affected by trouble with the mains supply.

A:BSOD because of tdx.sys and ntoskrnl.exe, code 0x000000c5

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (Cx05) probably your Avast.

I would remove and replace Avast with MSE and then run the 2 tests below.
Avast can be a contributing cause of BSOD'S . Please remove and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST
http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear5.exe

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have a Raid update its Driver.

Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5-7 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver Verifier

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition.
Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is.
But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver.
Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows.
If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise.
Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like.
From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

If you are using win 8 add these
- Concurrency Stress Test
- DDI compliance checking

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen.
Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly.
The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.
Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.
If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Thanks to JGriff2 & Usasma.

There are a several problems I am trying to troubleshoot on my home-built computer right now. The one in the subject line is the most well defined, so I figured I would start there. I get a BSOD (multiple IRP complete requests) whenever I connect to the internet using my Android phone's 3G via PdaNet. According to BlueScreenView, the only driver in the stack is ntoskrnl.exe. Any suggestions for how to fix this?

I am also trying to fix a problem where my computer crashes randomly about once a week, and 90% of the time it happens precisely when it tries to turn off the display for power saving (but not EVERY time it turns off the display). Since the random crash problem is extremely difficult to debug, I thought I would start with the BSOD problem, and hope that whatever fixes the latter will also fix the former.

I appreciate any help you guys can provide.

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Start your own thread in the appropriate section of the forum and attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

Hi,
I've been getting this BSOD for almost 2 weeks, its almost always the same error, the BSOD says win32k.sys caused the crash, but when looking at the dump files using BlueScreenView, it points to ntoskrnl.exe or sometimes HDAudBus.sys

I have done the following:
Updated all the drivers i can find (Including the audio drivers)
Ran memtestx86 for 5 passes with no errors

From my search it looks like Bugcode 50 is related to a faulty ram, but I have already ran memtest with no errors, so I'm not sure what to do.

I have attached a zip file with 12 crashes and msinfo32 txt and nfo

Thank you

Memory:RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Run Memtest86+ for least 7-8 passes, and preferably overnight as it can take a while to fully complete.

Test each RAM stick individually, if an error is found then move the same RAM stick into the next DIMM slot and test again, if errors are found for the same RAM stick in every available slot then you have a faulty RAM module. On the other hand, if no errors are found in the next slot or the other slots for the same RAM module, then you have a faulty DIMM slot.

Test each RAM stick and every motherboard DIMM slot available.

BC 124 is not a driver or any other software. It is a hardware problem. You may want to start by checking your memory and hard drive for starters.

I'm trying to crossfire my two 7850s but I keep getting system service exception BSODs.
I've used DDU to install new drivers. Prior to using DDU and installing new drivers, both cards worked fine by themselves.
I did try overclocking before this, but I set the values back to the normal ones, yet I still have problems.

I used the tool in Safe Mode if that matters at all.

EDIT:
Nevermind, I solved the issue by uninstalling all of my overclocking software. I think the main cause of them was MSI Afterburner. I also moved my page file to another hard drive.

This is my first time posting here, so my apologies if I mess something up or get it wrong. If I do, please let me know so I can fix it!
This is something that's just started happening recently. It happened once on the 14th of February, then once last night (on the 22nd), and today on the 23rd. The crash on the 14th didn't have the same screen as the last two crashes (photo attached of crash screen). I don't recall what the crash on the 14th happened during (most likely Skyrim), but the last two crashes happened during playing minecraft, typically while moving around and jumping. I have downloaded a couple of mods for the game, but was not running them when the crashes happened (the mods have a separate launcher, plus the crash occurred once before I ever played Minecraft).

I appreciate any help anyone can give me!

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .

Quote:
A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress

Some generic advice.

If you are overclocking STOP.
Return to the default settings at least for now.

If you are running a RAID update its driver.

When you can, check the hard drive by going to Computer, and right-click on the C drive. Select properties, tools, check now. Put a check mark in both boxes to set a disk check on the next start up. Use Memtest86 version 5.01:

I recently upgrade my computer from Windows 7 Pro 32 bit to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit; so I'm pretty sure my issues are somewhat driver based.

Most of the time the BSOD's happen randomly; though some of the times are when launching games.

I'm a novice at understanding/interpreting the dump files so help is greatly appreciated.

The dmp files are attached! If you need any more info, let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Ran Windows in SafeMode for about an hour or two. Ran fine without any crashes.

I downloaded BlueScreenView to find out more info and saw that it's ntoskrnl.exe that's been causing the problem (it usually shows 0x50 and 0x1a every error)
I've attached the dump files using the debugger and the Diagnostic Tool
I will greatly appreciate your help!

So, right when I got my computer I was bluescreening...a lot! And searched around and found that reinstalling windows 7 might solve this. When i did that, the blue screens became less frequent but packed together. I might go a few days without one yet then 1 day might get 4 within a few hours of each other.

I'm not the most amazing with computers and such, but if you need any specs then please ask and I'll provide!

I also don't know where to go to find my dump files, but supposedly those can help someone find out what's causing the bluescreens? I can try and locate them and upload them if you guys need it! Thanks so much in advance! =3

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

Hi, I need help with my Acer laptop. Yesterday, I encountered with a BSOD. Here is the .dmp file I've uploaded. Any help will be appreciated!

A:BSOD error - NTOSKRNL

Did this occur while playing a video or game?
You had a fault in your direct x whatever happened it's related to your display driver more than likely.
According to your sys info you have a nvidia 5 series mobile gpu.
I suggest removing everything you have nvidia display, and physx. I didn't look to see if you have other nvidia system components but this only pertains to the graphics. in programs and features (control panel)
Then reinstall using the newest available driver, located here
NVIDIA DRIVERS 306.23WHQL

Hi likos,

Welcome to the 8forums.

Seeing you have a windows 10 Pro system, please create a new thread at BSOD Section - Windows 10 Help Forums

So I'm having a blue screen problem. I have the program Blue Screen Viewer and it keeps bringing up a ntoskrnl.exe as the problem. Thing is my blue screens are random. I haven't had one in a few weeks where I was having several a day before then. Then it just stopped and all of a sudden started up with a couple in the last 2 days.

If anyone can help that'd be awesome! I attached some minidump files that I've gotten so far in this month.

Also if you need system specs then i can list those.

Thanks in advance!

Download and run TDSSKiller
Remove any old/incompatible software or hardware devices from your computer

This bugcheck is generated when the kernel detects that critical kernel code or
data have been corrupted. There are generally three causes for a corruption:
1) A driver has inadvertently or deliberately modified critical kernel code
or data. See http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/kernel/64bitPatching.mspx
2) A developer attempted to set a normal kernel breakpoint using a kernel
debugger that was not attached when the system was booted. Normal breakpoints,
"bp", can only be set if the debugger is attached at boot time. Hardware
breakpoints, "ba", can be set at any time.
3) A hardware corruption occurred, e.g. failing RAM holding kernel code or data.

Hello,

I am getting BSOD with error Error IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL. When checked with Blue Screen view, I am seeing it is caused by ntoskrnl.exe driver.

All system specs are listed on my profile. Please let me know what you need for further help.

Thanks in advance!!

A:BSOD - Error IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL ntoskrnl.exe

Thank you for filling in your System Specs.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi,

I built my pc about a week ago and I have been getting BSODS, and I used BlueScreenView to see that ntoskrnl.exe, 142760 was causing the issue. I am not sure how to troubleshoot this as this is completely new to me. I checked that my memory and storage are fine. I will be attaching the dmp file below. Please help me, thanks a lot.

Have you a Raid setup, is so upgrade drivers....Also check all hardware drivers.
Have you overclocked, if so restore to original clock speed.
I assume you have taken out one memory at a time to check as you state memory fine.

Hey, so I recently started to get these BSOD randomly now. Not sure what it could be and tried everything I know, plus some things I researched.

x64
Full Retail - What is the age of system (hardware)? Oldest part would be the HD from 2009, and motherboard 2010
- What is the age of OS installation Fresh Install
I have this happen on old ram, and brand new ram as well. I think the cause is a faulty motherboard.
Reason why is I have two slots that died out on me, so I sent out a request for an RMA,

Thanks,

These crashes were caused by memory corruption (probably a driver). Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!
1-Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

2-Driver verifier

Quote:
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise.

- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

A:BSOD driver ntoskrnl.exe error

Hi ferrageo and welcome to SF!
Virtually every one of your crashes comes with a different error code (some blame a damaged file system, some go more towards defective drivers and/or hardware)
So let's start with this:
Take back any form of overclocking that might have been applied. Easiest way: reboot, go into the BIOS and load safe defaults settings.
Next important point is this:
Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
As for your RAM, test it after this tut:
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Next the file system:
Run a chkdsk /r after this tut:
Disk Check

If the file corruption becomes more frequently still, you should check your harddrive with the appr. program
Seagate

Western Digital

Samsung

Please report back with your findings

This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that

If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value

Hey,

I am getting a BSOD since one week randomly with the message IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. BlueScreen Viewer showes me, that it is caused by the driver ntoskrnl.exe. Before I got this BSOD I updated my Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1.1 . Since this time, this error happens randomly!

My system specs are the following:

Laptop: Asus S400 CA
CPU: Intel Core I5 3317 U @ 1,70 GHz
Memory: 8 GB
Graphics: Intel HD Grpahics 4000
Mainbord: Asustek S400 CA
Antivirus: Avast! Internet Security (Version: 140512-0)

Before I got this IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR _EQUAL error I also got the BSOD Driver_Power_State_Failure. I figured out, that it might be the Bluetooth Driver, as buescreenviewer stated the driver causing the error is btfilter.sys.

I attached also a SF Diagnostic Tool File!

I would be glad and happy about some help, since BSOD?s are annoying

Thank you very much

Cheers Fabi

Just today when I got home from work and turned on my PC it started freezing just this morning it was working fine ive had random restarts before but rarely like maybe once or twice a month This problem BSOD 0x00000124 error ntoskrnl.exe, first started out by just freezing can't move mouse or anything holding power button don't work either so have to shut the power switch It now seems to either BSOD or freeze whenever I boot normally and sometimes the BSOD doesnt even make a dmp I either freeze BSOD ntoskrnl.exe, error 0x00000124 BSOD on the welcome screen or after a few min when the desktop comes up Safe mode works fine though as I am also in it now to post this and I have tried system restore to no avail I've tried testing my RAM sticks by moving them to different slots and testing one at a time and still same problem persists One forum mentioned video drivers so i uninstalled mine and still nothing I went to try windows repair but i get some error message saying the utility doesn't match my version not sure why as its the same disc I used to install with I would normally just re-format and install but a few forums mention that not working so I got a little more worried and am now coming to here to see what you guys think I BSOD ntoskrnl.exe, error 0x00000124 read initial post and ran the file collection app and have the zip uploaded One note though the system health report would not work just gave me an error screen maybe because im in safe mode but like I said can't leave it or I will freeze My basic system specs are below thanks for taking the time to read this and hope you can solve it Windows Pro bit got it from my computer courses in college as we part of some partnership with microsoft GB RAM x GB sticks AMD FX -core CPU GHz Nvidia GTX Ti ASUS Sabertooth MB This rig I built in March and ran fine until today Windows I had for over a year same disc just reinstalled

It does not appear you let the jcgriff2 utility run to completion. It sometimes appears it is not doing anything when it actually is, so do not stop it. Go get a cup of coffee or a meal while you wait.

Analysis:BugCheck 0x124
You have a 0x124 hardware bugcheck. If the system is still under warranty, I would recommend sending it in to have diagnostic tests done and any bad hardware replaced.

 Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For your hardware stop 0x124 crash, read through Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try and use the following hardware checks to supplement that link.
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

Run all but the advanced tests with SeaTools for HDDs.SeaTools for Windows

SeaTools for DOS
Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us).

Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, su... Read more

A:BSOD ntoskrnl.exe? Software or hardware error?

The no crashdump issue seems to be fairly common with Windows 7 SP1. There's a potential fix available here. Also make sure you are not using any "PC cleaning" or "optimizing" software, as they love to munch on crashdumps. Lastly, make sure to have Driver Verifier on for future crashes.

I honestly don't know much about computers. Probably wasn't the best idea to build my own but i did and everything worked alright until I started to try to install games like League of Legends and Starcraft. After i installed those or part way thru installation my computer crashed, multiple times in a row. After i removed the program the computer worked relatively fine though. Hello,

I've been running into this error a few times a day recently. It's typically if the PC is under load - playing games/leaving one running.

It started happening more recently when I upgraded my ram, I've been running memtest86+ but haven't hit anything yet after several passes.

When looking at the blue screen dump, it shows this address, but I'm not sure how to investigate further:
ntoskrnl.exe+4b18cc.

Does any one have recommendations or further information that can be extracted from the dumps?

It's an Alienware Aurora-R1 with 12 GB of G.Skill F3-12800CL9 running Win 7 x64, bios A11. No overclocking has been done and the ram is set to XMP.

Let me know if there's any additional info I should provide.

Thanks!

I am getting BSOD at random times. I am running a couple of virtual machines but it used to run fine. Am going to preform a memory check when I shut down for the night to be sure its not ram ... I recently formatted and installed all new drivers manually by searching hardware IDs and tracking that way two drivers still remain unfound.

added bsod screen shot and driver screen shot

any help is very appreciated. thank you!

Realtek RTL8171EH GbE integrata; Minicard HP Wireless NIC 802.11b/g/n

I attach the file generated by SF Diagnostic Tool.

I updated the hardware driver with the last that i found on the hp site. I tested to stop the ESET NOD32 verson 5. This test has not had good result. The bsod is always present.

Hi there, my colleague is getting random BSOD on his relatively new Dell E6330 with W7 Pro x64.

I have grabbed some dump files and tried to understand them in BlueScreenView, but they don't make a lot of sense to me, but these two items are frequently mentioned: NETIO.SYS \ ntoskrnl.exe.

I also ran Memtest86+ and it came back with no errors.

Please can someone help me translate these dump files (attached)?

Many thanks

Hi all

So I have this issue in windows 10 where the keyboard of my laptop stops responding at random instances . None of the keys work. That is soon followed by BSOD and a " Driver Power state failure error message". When forcing the computer to restart by pressing the power button resolves the issue . But the keyboard still stops at random intervals. I have already check all the drivers and they are up to date and there are no yellow explanation marks in device manager and updated
i have run Blue screen viewer and attached the log from that . In all instances it appears the guilty party is " ntoskrnl.exe" but i cannot find any other info on how to resolve this . Can anyone please help?

edit: also added the dump files as zip

Hello Dman, welcome to SF!

You seem to have multiple problems that could still be HW and or drivers.

What I don't understand from your story is the statement that you replaced the harddrive while the testsoftware indicated RAM. Is this a mistake in your (otherwise fine) English?

Do you have BSOD's when you run the system in Safe Mode?

Can you de-install AVG, reboot and download latest? Its driver is not installed correctly. (the AVG AVI loader driver)

Please have a look at: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

and check your system for Malware, to be sure... : Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Hello I have been having this BSOD for about half a year now and I don't know why it is happening It always happens when I'm gaming not any other time it recently happened during Deus Ex and before that a varied amount of times with games like Jagged gaming ntoskrnl.exe BSOD error 0x0000003b when Alliance and Dark Messiah The good thing is that it doesn't happen often but it definitely is getting annoying The thing that frightens me is that it may be a problem with my hardware as I had ntoskrnl.exe BSOD error 0x0000003b when gaming reformatted my hard drive about three months ago and even after the reformat I still get BSODs Now the truly puzzling thing about this is before the reformat my BSODs while still being caused by ntoskrnl exe were usually x NTFS FILE SYSTEM errors while now they are all x b SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION errors My processor is overclocked to ghz but it's stable and runs cool and I don't think it would cause that type of error My RAM is on default everything stock voltage mhz and manufacturer recommended timings This BSOD has happened to me while and without my video card being overclocked which is also stable -- to my knowledge so this further confuses me on why this would happened I really don't understand I don't see how it could be the software since I've been having BSODs before and after a total reformat And I don't particularly like ntoskrnl.exe BSOD error 0x0000003b when gaming the idea of RMAing a component and being without a computer for - weeks Any help is appreciated

Hi.

In this order,
Update software\driver for your Atheros AR9271 Wireless Network Adapter.
ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (Atheros?????)
Remove Panda security from your system.
Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials with windows firewall enable.

For your system protection you can also use this Good and Free system security combination.
Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Run it 2-3 times if needed to "fix" everything.
Run RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Let it run until at least 9 passes are completed, or errors are found (whichever comes first). The longer you run it, the better.

Finish with the above steps and post back with results\news.

I am working on a computer which always crashes when booting into normal windows. However, there is no issue when booting into safe mode. THE BSOD happens when the services are loading right at startup. Therefore, I am not able to run normal windows at all. I have ran the diagnostic utility and have included the dump files, but the information was obtained in safe mode. I used bluescreenview which displayed Page Fault in Nonpaged area with driver issue hal.dll. The system is an HP pavilion dm1 with an AMD E-350 processor. It has 4 gigs of memory, and I was able to run memtest (only 1 full pass) without any issues. Any ideas on what is causing the BSOD? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich

Hi satlos.

The BSOD is caused by Edimax nLite Wireless USB Adapter.

Virtually all 47 of these are identical. There is very little practical information in them as to its cause. The specific error code is:

The APC_INDEX_MISMATCH bug check has a value of 0x00000001. This indicates that there has been a mismatch in the APC state index.

We can certainly find what the cause is eventually but I wonder since these only started after you installed system mechanic wouldnt it be easier to restore a backup, or do a clean reinstall?

Here are a few of the current problems
Old drivers

Code:

How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

Thank you very much in advance!
I have been getting this BSOD for sometime now. It started when I was originally running Windows 10 where I got the blue screen for a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. I used a program called "bluescreenview" that told me that the issue was caused by a driver called ntoskrnl.exe. I tried to update all my drivers, disable sleep settings, uninstalled Mcafee and I still got the screen. I got desperate and restore my computer entirely, which brought my computer back to Windows 8.1, since that was the original operating system my laptop had. I still got the same blue screen, even without installing anything new. It is an ASUS ROG GL551JW notebook. So I currently have Windows 8.1. Thank you for you help!

Greetings, I was hoping someone would help me with my BSOD ntoskrnl.exe issue as I've experiencing them randomly throughout the day but not quite enough to the point it would cripple my PC. I had this issue a year ago that was fixed by simply running Memtest86+ through a few passes on all RAM modules and I found out that 2 out of 3 of my sticks had errors all over them. I smartened up a bit when I replaced them several months back by running them through the same test and fortunately none of them had any errors.

I tried digging through the other similar ntoskrnl.exe threads but to no avail, also tried running each stick in 4-7 passes and none of them displayed any errors.

Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated

Are you analyzing the minidumps or the kernel dump (MEMORY.DMP in Windows directory)? Either way, make sure symbols are set up properly. You can use the MS Symbol Server here.

Anyways, I personally could not find anything of value in these minidumps. Can't really deepdive any of them as they're just minidumps, so you'll wanna provide a kernel dump or turn on DV. If you decide to turn on DV, make sure not to check Force Pending I/O Requests, Low Resource Sim and IRP Logging. They will cause false positives and other behavior.

This has been going on for a while now. I replaced my motherboard and a bad hard drive. I run off an SSD (samsung 830) as my boot drive with a 1 TB hard drive for storage. I ran memtest multiple times with no errors. Could this be a failing PSU?

The debug info in WhoCrashed said this was not a hardware issue but most likely a driver. I uninstalled all the audio drivers except the one I used just in case. I reverted all my overclocking for the CPU and ram back to default.

Thanks if you can help

Welcome

Your BSODs don't give a probable cause.

I've seen Daemon tools installed in your computer which is a known cause for BSODs

Please uninstall it and run driver verifier.

Lets enable driver verifier to rule out buggy drivers
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Information
Driver Verifier runs in the background, "testing" drivers for bugs. If it finds one, a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) will result; the corresponding dump file will hopefully show the faulty driver.

* Zip up the copy.

* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

> The following actions might prevent an error like this from happening again:

* Download and install updates and device drivers for your computer from Windows Update.

* Scan your computer with Malwarebytes free.

Crashes point to Kaspersky, Norton Backup, and/or ShadowDefender. Start removing these programs one by one and determine which is causing the crashes.

Removal tool for Kaspersky Lab products will help with removing Kaspersky.
If you remove Kaspersky, I recommend either of these:Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows coupled with Malwarebytes. Do not start the free trial of Malwarebytes. Just use the standalone version, update it, and scan your computer once a week with Malwarebytes and with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Good and Free system security combination.

Hello My first BSOD occured on my -month-old ASUS GL JM laptop while I was opening the Task Manager It was running on battery while I was playing Don't Starve Together on Steam I closed Don't Starve Together and plugged in the charger caused error 0x0000009f by ntoskrnl.exe BSOD minutes later I noticed the computer being a little laggy while browsing the web I wanted to open the Task Manager to see what was being so slow and that's when the BSOD occured I've played Don't Starve Together many times but this has never happened before I typically put my computer into sleep mode instead of turning it off Perhaps this contributed to the problem but I had not recently woken up the computer I ran BlueScreenView and it said DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE caused by ntoskrnl exe Online searches gave me a great range of answers that gave me more questions so I updated my Intel and NVidia drivers but that's about it This is also my workstation for graphic and animation work so I would like to prevent BSODs as much as possible I run Windows -bit Help would be greatly BSOD error 0x0000009f caused by ntoskrnl.exe appreciated Going to sleep right BSOD error 0x0000009f caused by ntoskrnl.exe after posting so I'll check in approximately hrs

A couple of issues

1-SPTD.SYS

Please remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, called sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads DuplexSecure - FAQ

when you're done you can use this Freeware:

MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM (MagicDisc) in its place

Using MagicISO to create ISO image files

2-Old drivers needing updating

How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads
3-Avast

I notice your avast which is often at least a contributing cause of BSOD'S . Please remove and replace your Avast with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST

Hello, I've been receiving BSODs and my system keeps freezing randomly, especially when being physically moved from its original position to a fresh position. I've tried conducting general hardware tests, but everything seems to be working just fine, atleast superficially. The manufacturer's hardware tests and chkdsk didn't reveal any issues.
The system details are as follows
Dell Inspiron 15 3521
3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3 337U processor (3M Cache, up to 2.7 GHz)
500GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive

I've attached the required zip file as well.

Any help/advice regarding what I should do to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I;m constantly plagued by BSOD, i get memory_management when it pops up, Ive tried uninstalling tons of different programs and running memory diagnostic tests and check disk on the hard drive always with no results. Im unsure what all i need to include but Ive attached my dump files. It seems completely random, sometimes ill be playing a game, sometimes defraggmenting or some times just sitting idle. I'm not sure if its related but i also have constant CRC errors. Any help is greatly appreciated, if you need more info just tell me what you need.

Some of the drivers may also be found here (if the driver says 'Windows Update' simply make sure all Windows Updates are installed).

You should also update any other drivers you can think of including graphics, audio, chipset, SSD etc.

Your dumps pointed to either NETwNs64.sys (associated with Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5000 Series Adapter Driver for Windows 7) or k57nd60a.sys (associated with Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet NDIS6.x Unified Driver). I've had BSOD errors ever since I put this machine together. Dmp files are beyond my knowledge base, but the deeper I delve, the more this seems like the only way to fix this. My computer crashes for no apparent reason. Sometimes it will work fine for months. Other times I get this dreaded PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. I recently updated my graphics card and installed a new hard drive. I updated the drivers with clean installs, but I had the same error message with my old hardware. Please help, folks. I'd greatly appreciate it.

A:BSOD, error 0x04e, PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, ntoskrnl.exe

Hi.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

It it does not show any error, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

 Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

 Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

 Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

I'm without a clue sigh please help

I had this configuration from 1 year now and BSOD started to appear like 1 month ago

I have to say that my crucial m4 ssd is with first firmware...should i update it and retest?

A:BSOD random ntoskrnl.exe error i'm clueless :(

Yes, update your SSD to the latest firmware. There have been known problems with the Crucial M4 without the latest firmware. See http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...ld-boot-3.html

You will also want to update the following driver:
Code:
ASACPI fffff880`05698000 fffff880`056a0000 Sun Mar 27 20:30:36 2005 (42476c4c) 00003c77 ASACPI.sys
There is not an update through your Motherboard support site, but you can update it for a different motherboard since it is just an ASUS utility and not an actual device driver.Older versions of ASACPI.SYS are a known BSOD problem on Windows 7. Update the driver by:Going to the Asus motherboard support site
When you reach the website:
Scroll down the page and click Utilities
Hold Ctrl and press f (ctrl+f) to enter the browser's find feature
Search for "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit" (without quotes)
Download and install the driver.
After installation is complete, verify that it installed correctly.Click Start Menu
Click My Computer
Go to C:\WIndows\System32\drivers\
Verify that the ASACPI.SYS file is dated 2009 or newer (2010,etc.)
Thanks to JMH and zigzag3143 for the above information.

Hello and thank you for your help.

I have been receiving a lot of crashes lately. Thought it was the HD so replaced it. Still happening.

I have 3 cards in my system; GTX560ti for graphics, Firewire card for Steinberg MR816csx audio interface, and and UAD-2 processing card for audio plugins.

I thought it was a conflict with my devices and tried to smooth them all out, then I got this last error which is new.

Any ideas?

thanks you in advance!

Kurt

A:BSOD using Cubase 7, Error:APC_INDEX_MISMATCH, Address:ntoskrnl.exe+75

I have a studio using Sonar X2. I used to have a firewire device (Focusrite Saffire Pro 40) but had issues with it and replaced it with a USB connected Roland Octa-Capture (and a backup MAudio Fastrack Ultra 8R).

I didn't look at your zip file, but the APC Index Mismatch is GENERALLY a driver issue. Did it work OK (never crash) and recently start? or has it always had crash problems?

If it is a recent problem, what has been recently updated? Especially hardware drivers.
