Unpredictable BSOD, incl: atikmdag, ntoskrnl and disappearing dumps

Q: Unpredictable BSOD, incl: atikmdag, ntoskrnl and disappearing dumps

Hey all I put together my first computer a few weeks ago from parts I'd bought and things seemed to be going well until I incl: atikmdag, Unpredictable disappearing ntoskrnl and dumps BSOD, started experiencing multiple BSODs Having triple checked everything is all put Unpredictable BSOD, incl: atikmdag, ntoskrnl and disappearing dumps together right in the case and updated to the latest drivers via the manufacturers sites no beta firmwares mind just the stable stuff I'm at a bit of a loss of what to do I've also run memtest and Prime and passed both with seemingly flying colours I've tried numerous fresh installs including using other versions of windows to no avail A possible anomaly I've experienced quite a bit is that often after a restart I've noticed the files in my minidump folder often get deleted and replaced with a new culprit that said sometimes they stay there and I accrue a mass of them The common errors I see listed include ones pertaining to atikmdag I've tried clearing my drive of everything to do with ATI AMD using Driver Sweeper and reinstalling and ntoskrnl As of this post Windows Update says I'm up to date I'm hoping the experienced minds here can spot something obvious as I'm rather happy with my setup I just want it to be more stable My system particulars are listed in my profile and the necessary attachments can be grabbed below thanks in advance for taking time out of your day PS please note that at the time of running the tests I had security programs disabled but ordinarily I run MSE and Malwarebytes

Preferred Solution: Unpredictable BSOD, incl: atikmdag, ntoskrnl and disappearing dumps

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You don't have all the necessary files attached. Please run the BSOD Dump & System File Collection app from the below link and upload the .rar file.
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

The dumps may be disappearing due to CCleaner. Make sure the option to sweep dumps is unchecked.

Hi I've recently joined a technical support team and have been given a dell desktop optiplex that's had constant BSOD issues going back months I've been told the OS win has been reinstalled several times and the issues doesn't seem to go away Based on that I figured it must be a hardware issue I did a diagnostic test in the bios had the computer freeze up during the diagnostic and Dell sent a technician to ntoskrnl.exe and BSOD to related atikmdag.sys replace the motherboard as a tech mentioned the error code related to the motherboard Well the motherboards been replaced and I'm still getting BSODs The timing of the BSOD is random the computer will run anywhere from mins to a couple hours but the BSOD is pretty consistant I thought I BSOD related to ntoskrnl.exe and atikmdag.sys had it narrowed down to corrupt ATI drivers a couple days ago and reinstalled a redownloaded driver software from dells support page but again the BSOD is back The most common BSOD error code is x although I get several And running bluescreenview to check dmp files the most common drivers causing the BSODs are ntoskrnl exe and atikmdag sys Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Hi

to the Bleeping Computer forum

Please follow the below steps.

Test the system memory thoroughly using Memtest86+ .

Read this article first : http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

You should run at least seven or more passes for an accurate result. I recommend running 10 passes. As it may take several hours to complete, it is better to run it overnight.

Following video will give you a better idea about the test.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

Report whether it detects any errors during the test.

Upload the crash dumps for inspection.

Open C:\Windows\minidump folder and copy all the crash dump files to another temporary folder. Zip that folder and upload it to any free file hosting site.

For example :

http://www.mediafire.com/

https://www.box.com/

Download and run Minitoolbox from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
    -List devices
-List users, partition and memory size

Now click "Go" and post the output in next reply  (or upload the result.txt with dump files)

Hi,

I have been getting BSOD only on idle for weeks now and it is driving me crazy. I have tried re installing the drivers for audio and graphics and any other suggestion I could find. Also I have re installed the OS. I am OC to 4.0GHZ but have also tried on stock 3.2GHZ and get the same issues.

This new atikmdag.sys I have not seen before but previously it was saying driver dxgmms or something similar. This crash dmp has now been deleted off my pc for some reason so I cant double check.

Any advice would be great as it is useless for what I want it to do if it wont stay on.

Thanks in advance !

I'm at my wits end on this. For months now Ive been getting BSOD errors. Different kinds, mostly ntoskrnl.exe errors. Memory modules appear to be well, uninstalled avg as i heard it could cause problems, purchased avast yesterday and installed it. Did a repair install of windows 7 64-bit home premium edition. Worked perfectly well all day yesterday. Today it starts up and goes blue screen again. So frustrated, at this point I just want to know if I need a new computer or if this one is still salvageable. See attached for the dump files.

Hi all,

I've been running this computer for about 2 months now. While playing some games or re-running WEI I get random BSODs. I ran CineBench and OCCT and have no errors with my GPU. I ran Memtest and my RAM checked out fine. My max temps for my CPU and GPU are 58C and for my 66C respectively. I have not overclocked yet, but was planning on doing so. I also ran the sfc /scannow command 3 times as an administrator.

I've removed the AMD Catalyst drivers using drive sweeper and reinstalled to 12.11 beta 4 with no success. It looks to be display drivers causing the problem, but I don't know what else to do.

My specs are:
CPU: i5 3570K
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212+
Motherboard: Gigabyte z77x-UD3H
GPU: PowerColor PCS+ AX7870 2GBD5-2DHPP GHz Edition
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W
RAM: Pareema 8GB DDR3 1333
HD: Samsung 830 128Gb SSD

I've attached the BSOD dump below.

Hello there!

Seems like the crashes are random we have to do some troubleshooting. Update your SSD Firmware. Update the drivers older than 2009.

Run SFC Scannow : SFC /SCANNOW to Repair Windows 7 Files

For ATI check this thread STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

Hi nielsvann.

The BSOD crash dump is incompletely recorded, and so not readable.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus and the touchpad driver, SynTPEnh.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Then put the computer to sleep again, and wake it up. It will BSOD, and hopefully we will get a complete crash dump to determine the root cause of the BSOD.

Hi all,

Been getting a few BSODs over the past couple of days.

No particular time it happens, could be playing a game or browsing the net. I haven't changed any hardware and no software has been installed in this time.

Upgraded my graphics last month but thats about it.

I've uploaded a pic of a bluescreen view.

And also included the seven forums zip.

Hope you guys can help, its driving me up the wall!

Hey, So I built this computer a little over a year ago and for the past few months i've been getting a few random BSOD's...

They seem to normally happen when I am playing games however have happened while watching videos...Doesn't seem to happen when Being Idle.

I am running Win 7 64 Bit.
AMD Raedon HD 5770

MSI Mother Board
6gig ram
AMD Phenom Quad core.

I've attached the System Health Report and I think my dump files? Basically followed the instructions on the BSOD posting rules. If you guys need anymore information just ask!

And Thank you so much!

Hi, this started after i took out my MSI 5770 card and put in ASUS 7770, i just swapped nothing more, didnt think i would need to install new drivers, then this started and happens when im running a bot in diablo3.

ive tried uninstalling the driver, install the newest, install the beta driver, tried using driver sweeper to clean out everything AMD/ATI then install the beta drivers, but still it happens

yesterday i ran the game with the bot and it was fine so i thought i had fixed it with the driver sweeper, but when i woke up this morning the computer had BSOD.
so im coming here and see if i can do anything, thinking about formating the C: and reinstall w7

Hello from Belgium,

A friend keeps getting BSOD. Very random. One time while playing online games, sometimes when the computer is just on, others when surfing,...
I can't figure out what to do.

I've updated all the drivers with driver genius but the blue screens keep coming.

Attachements: 1 text file from BluescreenView and all the dump files in one rar file.

If anyone can help, thank you!

Since posting , I have used the driver removal tool to remove the drivers, the used ATI autodetect to install the latest driver.
Maybe this could have solved it .... ?

I have a 6 months old computer and I've been getting BSODs for a few weeks now but it started recently freezing so I'm having to type this from safe mode. I tried fixing the atikmdag.sys BSOD but with no results.

Your AMD display driver is causing issues.

Hello, I'm new here and have a major problem,

I've built myself a new computer.

Gigabite F2A88XM-03H Motherboard
AMD A10-7850K APU
Radeon R7 260X Graphics Card
16 GB of ram.
It has been BOSD -ing constantly. Sometimes hourly. It doesn't matter what I'm doing. Video Games, Kerbal Space Program, surfing the web, watching youtube, or just typing in word.

I've tried a full re install of windows. I've tried refreshing windows. I've cleaned the registry, checked the drives for errors. I've run memtest for a full day. I've updated all of my drivers. I can't find or fix the problem.

I have a ton of mini crash dumps. The ones I've looked at say ntoskrnl.exe is the problem.

Can anyone help?

A:BSOD All the Time. Crash Dumps say ntoskrnl.exe

Here are the crash dumps in .txt files.

I think some of them might have occurred during an update. But most were just during regular computer use.

Also, I am not overclocking. My ram is running at the manufacturer's specs. And my CPU isn't overheating.
I've tried everything I can think of and everything I can find online.

Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Sorry If I did any of this wrong. This is a little out of my depth when it comes to computers.

I'm trying to crossfire my two 7850s but I keep getting system service exception BSODs.
I've used DDU to install new drivers. Prior to using DDU and installing new drivers, both cards worked fine by themselves.
I did try overclocking before this, but I set the values back to the normal ones, yet I still have problems.

I used the tool in Safe Mode if that matters at all.

EDIT:
Nevermind, I solved the issue by uninstalling all of my overclocking software. I think the main cause of them was MSI Afterburner. I also moved my page file to another hard drive.

I hope anybody can help me....i already have the latest drivers but i still get BSOD's

A:BSOD caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys (atikmdag+0x19C6D)

Msinfo32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter > Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post. Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "msinfo32 /nfo %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

systeminfo:
Please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "systeminfo.exe >%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\systeminfo.txt" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the syteminfo.txt file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .txt file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

Hello.

I am getting really tired of my computer crashing constantly. The main concerns are: ntoskrnl.exe, atikmdag.sys and dxgmms1.sys. I have fresh installed four times, updated all of my drivers and DirectX, too. Nothing helped.

I have send my PC back to it's manufacturer 2 times, and they said it was fine. I have also run Windows Memory Diagnostics without any errors.

It happens randomly, even though what I am doing on my computer (work, games, surfing the interwebs etc.)

System specifications
AMD Phenom X6 II 1090T
AMD Radeon HD 6970
8GB DDR3 RAM (I don't know the frequency)
Windows 7 64-bit

What should I do?

Dumps attached,
Oliver.

I'm using Windows X Ultimate updated with all security patches I started getting BSOD's about weeks ago I only got one about every days Now they occur - times a day BlueScreenView points to SCSIPORT sys atikmdag sys dxgkrnl sys netbt sys and ntoskrnl exe as the culprits I rolled my computer back to an image I made months ago and updated Windows with all the latest patches I then got more BSOD's a few hours later The latest one was caused by SCSIPORT sys according dxgkrnl.sys, netbt.sys, BSODs: SCSIPORT.sys, atikmdag.sys, ntoskrnl to BlueScreenView I read some reports on the net that atimdag sys and dxgkrnl sys are related to my graphics card I checked them in my system driver folder and the file properties said Microsoft on them so i'm not sure if my video card driver uses them I'm using an AMD Radeon HD video card I'm using the next to the latest version of Catalyst BSODs: SCSIPORT.sys, atikmdag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, netbt.sys, ntoskrnl Control Center for my video card If I update to the latest version then I have no audio on my Samsung TV when using an HDMI cord I tried trouble shooting it but was unsuccessful I ran a memory check at boot using Windows memory check feature BSODs: SCSIPORT.sys, atikmdag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, netbt.sys, ntoskrnl and it said no errors were found I also ran sfc scannow and no errors were found I'm not positive my video card is at fault so BSODs: SCSIPORT.sys, atikmdag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, netbt.sys, ntoskrnl I would be most grateful if someone more knowledgeable could have a look at the minidumps Maybe some other firmware on my machine also needs updated It's hard for me to says since a different drivers has been indicated with each BSOD I enclose all the minidumps I have so you could look at them if needed Thank you so much for you help Mike

A:Problems after crash incl disappearing task bar, unable to press start button, coinciding w/ false positives in avast in last 2...

hey, just in case anyone was looking at this, wanted to update. decided to do the virus udpate from a standalone exe in safe mode in any case to see what happened. this stopped all the false positives, so was able to run full scan. then ran adaware in safe which found a couple of things. now seems to be fine, so fingers crossed. thanks for anyone who was going to get around to this in any case. great you guys are there.

Hello,

I'm new here, wondering if anyone could help with a problem I'm having please.

Been having a problem with unexpected shutdowns on a Vista PC. I have attached a text version of the minidump file which says the error is Probably caused by : ntoskrnl.exe. The other relevant piece of info it gives is:
BugCheck 9F, {3, 86a7c190, 84b99030, 867da578}

but I have attached the whole file.

Many thanks for your help

Kath

A:Vista unexpected shutdowns, memory dumps says ntoskrnl.exe probably to blame

Your debugger is not using the correct symbolsClick to expand...

Best to post the dmp file itself in future. Otherwise just download the 100meg of Symbols for your Windows version.

This one Minidump (well txt file) doesn't help much, in what the fault is.
But in most cases, it's just a matter of updating all your device drivers, and Windows security updates. And possibly running Memtest on your Ram.

Once that is all done, wait for the next Minidump (hopefully never comes) and post the actual DMP file

Hey guys,

First time poster here, I've always managed to fix everything myself with a little Googling, but this one's got me beaten.

I've got two different BSODs, one of which is the "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA", and the other always reboots so quickly that I don't have time to even read the error code.

I've attached the logs below, help would be much appreciated

Thanks!

EDIT - Added another set of logs from the "dm log collector.exe" tool

A:Two different BSOD's, unpredictable timing

Hi Gapper100 & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-
First of all, let's check out the Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area which means that a driver referenced invalid system memory. Let's first check the stack -

Code:
1: kd> k
Child-SP RetAddr Call Site
ffffd000`21e06188 fffff800`ce984a7f nt!KeBugCheckEx
ffffd000`21e06190 fffff800`ce854869 nt! ?? ::FNODOBFM::`string'+0x1c8cf
ffffd000`21e06230 fffff800`ce961f2f nt!MmAccessFault+0x7a9
ffffd000`21e06370 fffff800`ce964525 nt!KiPageFault+0x12f

ffffd000`21e06620 fffff800`268736c9 nt!IopfCompleteRequest+0x7fc
ffffd000`21e06730 00000000`00000156 copperhd+0x16c9
ffffd000`21e06738 00000000`00000000 0x156

Hmm, so what is "copperhd.sys"? It is your Razer DiamondBack's Driver. Now, Razer devices are very famous to cause BSOD's especially the drivers from 2009. Let's check the driver date of this one -

Code:
1: kd> lmvm copperhd
start end module name
fffff800`26872000 fffff800`26875800 copperhd T (no symbols)
Loaded symbol image file: copperhd.sys

ImageSize: 00003800
Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4

And there we have it.
Now, let us have a look at the other dump file which is the KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED which means that a Kernel Mode Exception was generated which could not be handled or caught by the Exception Handler. Let us take a look at the stack of this dump file -

Code:
2: kd> k
Child-SP RetAddr Call Site
ffffd001`3c372728 fffff800`98c5aefb nt!KeBugCheckEx
ffffd001`3c372730 fffff800`98be4846 nt!KiFatalFilter+0x1f

ffffd001`3c3739a0 00000000`00000000 0x2000

So, in this case there is the presence of your Intel Gigabit Adapter which caused a Page Fault.

Code:
2: kd> lmvm e1i63x64
start end module name
fffff801`0c653000 fffff801`0c6c7000 e1i63x64 T (no symbols)

So, according to the above analysis :-

Please either remove your Razer DiamondBack (Physically Detach it from the system) or find an updated version of the driver which is compatible with the Windows 8.1. You can visit **THIS** link for more information. Please find an updated version for your Intel Gigabit Adapter. You can visit **THIS** link for more information.
Let me know how it goes ^_^

Hi guys Recently I have been experiencing BSOD a couple of times it started a few months back maybe once or twice a month i tried to isolate the hardware to find out what is causing the BSOD but to no avail It was hard to do troubleshooting as it does not always happen However when it is and random unpredictable BSOD that does after the BSOD the computer will attempt to reboot again but it will keep booting up and then shutdown again repeating a few times before successfully booting it back to the user log in The phase where it boots up and shutdown repeatedly to put in more details it's like when you turn on your computer you will hear the fans running LEDs coming on etc etc then it will immediately shut back down and repeat again Since yesterday i have already experience BSOD about times and now my computer has been restarting on it's own no BSOD nothing no warning as well To add on the BSOD happens as and when it likes sometimes gaming web browsing etc etc even when it's just idling I'm not sure what is causing it as I do not have much knowledge on problems like these Will appreciate all help below is the log generated Thanks in advance Update I have run the memtest and have consecutive passes guess we can eliminate the suspect of the RAM Update The BSOD is very random everytime it happens the error is completely different sometime services sometime some initialisation isssues Therefore I decided to do a reformat to eliminate the software suspect and it is still happening but far lesser than before reformat I seem to notice the frequency tends to increase if I'm using anything that has got to do with Java

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

If it does not show any error, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

** EDIT: Before enabling Driver Verifier, Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Otherwise windows will refuse to go to the desktop with DV enabled.

It can happen instantly when I load up minecraft or not at all after playing arkham city for 2 hours. Ive ran memtest for 9 passes with no error. Ive made sure all my drivers are updated. Im on my second video card, because I thought that was the issue initially and gave me an excuse to order a newer one. I flashed the bios to the newest version I found and the errors stopped for about a month or so, long enough for me to throw away my boxes. I dont know what else to do. I appreciate any help. I've updated my drivers to all the latest drivers and had dell replace all my whole motherboard with video card and my touch sensitive LED buttons, but i am still having BSOD problems. can any kind soul help? Thanks in advance

A:Persistant Unpredictable BSOD on VISTA

My Brand new D630 came with Vista Ultimate and got a lot of BSODs. I ran every possible diagnostic software with 0 errors, so I thought it was no a hardware problem. Called Microsoft and they gave me a Downgrade key for Windows XP Pro Sp2. I had only two BSOD with Xp and I think the cause is the Video driver I downloaded form Intel. Now turned back to Dell Video driver and no more BSODs. Im not pretending to return to Vista soon.

I have been suffering from random and unpredictable 0x44 BSODs for a few weeks now and I'm finally stuck. I cannot trigger the crashes and there's no obvious pattern to when they occur - sometimes while the PC is idle and sometimes when it's in use.
I have made no significant changes to my computer that I'm aware of, certainly no hardware upgrades or changes. The most recent was a new mouse but that happened over a month before the issues began.

I have run dskchk, memory diagnostics, updated every driver I could and clean installed the nvidia display driver without luck.

I had a cursory glance at the memory dump myself and it's just a system driver being implicated each time and I can't read into it any more than that. Any hints or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jpross.

Stop 0x44 BSODs are complicated. Often it is caused by two different drivers. But we are able to find one. Let us fix it first and see how the situation goes.

Update the network driver from Realtek .... get the first one from the list: Win7 and WinServer 2008 R2 Driver. Install it by following Driver Install - Device Manager.

Let us know the results. Will decide our next course of actions depending on the situation.

Hi guys,

I've had 2 distinct BSOD error messages so far -

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (which is the most common, at least once today)
page fault in nonpaged area (which has happened twice so far - both times yesterday)

I ran memtest86 today on boot and no errors were found.

All hardware in the system is brand new -

PC/Desktop
Custom Build
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel Core i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30Ghz
GIGABYTE Socket 1155 GA-B75-D3V (rev. 1.0)
Corsair CMZ8GX3M4X1600C9 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3
Integrated Graphics Processor (removed by PCI graphics card which improved things slightly)
M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card
WD Caviar Green 1TB SATA III 6GB/s
550W POWER SUPPLY

Microsoft Security Essentials
Google Chrome

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a music producer and the system keeps crashing when I'm working on projects which is pretty devastating.

Many thanks!
Jim

A:BSOD when using music software and other unpredictable occasions

How long did you run Memtest? Make sure to run at least 7 consecutive passes, not just one. This means all tests done 7 times.

So you can invoke a system crash from running your music software consistently? Is there any particular activity in the software that has the highest chance of triggering it?

Anyways, I don't think these minidumps will be sufficient just by themselves. You'll want to turn on Driver Verifier checks and send us the crashdumps created by them. Make sure to read the whole article.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Hello tenforums users! I've been getting a lot of random BSODs since last week but I couldn't tell what was the issue. I've read about the error on the Internet and from what I understand from those, Machine Check Exception will occur to drivers issue, hardware issues (CPU or RAM). I've checked the RAM sticks in my PC (booting with only 1 stick and switching slots every time BSOD happens), changing the thermal compound in case of bad conduction, but still no luck. I've also reformatted the Windows partition and the BSOD occurred not long after it booted up. Windows ran fine in Safe Mode for about an hour. Any help would be appreciated! This is my first time using tenforums so I will try my best to follow the rules of posting. Cheers. DESKTOP-VUK87C3-Mon_10_10_2016_223559_98.zip

Greetings I tend to get a BSOD when working in visual studio often when doing something requiring heavy processing but occasionally simple things BSOD - Critical dell 15 Unpredictable process xps died The BSOD simply says CRITICAL PROCESS DIED In googling it seems that might be a driver error I tried running the verifydriver following the directions of a windows post I found which caused the computer to bluescreen before loading windows every time with a driver error that did not specify a specific driver that caused the problem I'm hoping that will be somewhere in the minidump that should be within the attachment created by following the posting directions I was not able to figure out from the minidump what driver might specifically be the problem if I'm even barking up the Unpredictable BSOD Critical process died - dell xps 15 right tree about a driver issue in the first place There doesn't appear to be any minidump from the critical process errors unfortunately I've tried to do all I could on my own by searching for processes and answers before posting here Thanks for the help

Hello I am for some time now experiencing a weird kind of BSOD sometimes without freezes, Desktop sound BSOD loop. in unpredictable intervals, actual BlueScreen but windows still tells me it was indeed a BlueScreen after the ReBoot It happens in all kinds of Situations While i play a game that taxes my PC to the limit while watching Videos listening to music or while completely Idle The sound loop which appears to be the last sound played before the error occurs lasts about seconds before the PC reboots automatically Usually i reset it before that because the sound is very annoying When the PC is Idle while it BSOD in unpredictable intervals, Desktop freezes, sound loop. crashes there is no sound at all obviously I have switched several pieces of Hardware in the last few Months CPU GPU Motherboard but that didn't seem to affect the Issue at all I tried finding help with this issue before but from what i could find which wasn't very much since i had almost nothing to go on i assumed it was a GPU driver issue and there was nothing i could do about it Now it's getting really annoying since it's completely random Sometimes i use my PC for a week without crash and the next day it crashes times in one hour There seems to be no real pattern None that i can recognize anyway I use the following Hardware in my PC AMD FX Ghz GB Dual-Channel DDR MHz - - - Gigabyte GA- LMT-USB Socket M MB ATI AMD Radeon HD Series Sapphire PCPartner GB Samsung SSD EVO GB ATA Device SSD GB Seagate ST DM - ER ATA Device SATA Also i attached the File created with the tool mentioned in the How-To Post in this Forum The Event Viewer shows some Critical errors but they all seem to be a response to the unexpected shut down due to the crash and not the reason for the Crash in itself Quote from the Error description quot The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first This error could be caused if the system stopped responding crashed or lost power unexpectedly quot I'd really appreciate any help with this issue Edit I forgot to mention that i am using SP and have all the updates installed that are avaiable via the Windows Updater I also have the driver verifier enabled right now and i will run memtest tommorrow since i currently don't have a free USB stick or empty CDs lying around

A:BSOD in unpredictable intervals, Desktop freezes, sound loop.

So, about 20 minutes after i enabled the Driver Verifier my System froze again. This time without any sound and a different screen. It looked like a partially restored image from a formatted drive where nothing remains of the original image. It's difficult to describe.

The Event log doesn't show anything that seems related, but that could very well be because i have no idea what to look for. Is there anything i can do to add something that could help someone else see the problem?

Edit: Ran the data collection tool again after the "new" verifier provoked crash. Added the zip file as attachment.

For some time now I've been getting BSODs. Usually this occurs when I'm gaming (League of Legends, Dark Souls II) but sometimes it has happened on start-up after a BSOD or just randomly. No single event seems to trigger these but again it happens more often when gaming. I do not remember all of the error codes given. I recently updated my video card driver in response to this happening which didn't seem to change anything.

Edit: Also, upon restarting my computer, my internet will not connect unless I unplug my wireless adapter and plug it back in. Not sure if relevant, thought I'd share anyhow.

hi and welcome to TSF do this http://pcsupport.about.com/od/window...startvista.htm you will then be able to see the error message and code or do this http://www.computerperformance.co.uk...ent_viewer.htm and find some more info which you can copy and paste to notepad or word put it in a folder zip it and attach to your next post using the tools on your posting page someone can then look at it and try to help. one other thing you can try is running memtest86+ http://www.memtest.org/ dl and burn to disc use imgburn to do this put it in your drive restart your comp and run it for as long as possible but a minimum of 4hours and post the results

I've tried formatting windows 8 and also tried installing drivers seperately for both cards. Nothing has worked so far for me. I am trying to run these cards in crossfire. Both are 7950. As soon as it gets to the part where it installs the display driver, the screen goes black the first time, shortly thereafter the screen goes black second time and suddenly I get a bsod with atikmdag.sys. I've attached my bsod log below. Thank You.

Update your ATI/AMD display driver.
You can get it from the link in our forum, Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7, or you may go to AMD Graphics Driver and Software and opt for Automatically Detect and Install the appropriate driver for your card.

During installation, you may opt for advanced installation, and install the display driver only, not the Catalyst Control Center.

Hopefully it will stop this BSOD.

Also, your ASUS PCE-N15 11n Wireless LAN PCI-E Card driver is failing here.

Hi okrgr & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints the driver/function that caused the problem.
Let us see what was the exception that took place -

Code:
3: kd> !error c0000005
Error code: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000005 (3221225477) - The instruction at 0x%08lx referenced memory at 0x%08lx. The memory could not be %s.

So, according to the error, the ATI driver considered that the memory at the address is a string even though it was not. Strange, right? Well, that is why the system crashed. It might sound a little silly on the part of Operating System but well it is built to protect your data
Let's check the stack -

Code:
3: kd> knL
# Child-SP RetAddr Call Site
00 ffffd001`bdf2e360 ffffe001`fc66f080 atikmdag+0xc50ab
01 ffffd001`bdf2e368 ffffd001`bdf2e3a9 0xffffe001`fc66f080
02 ffffd001`bdf2e370 00000000`00a0f68d 0xffffd001`bdf2e3a9
03 ffffd001`bdf2e378 00000000`001dbf1b 0xa0f68d
04 ffffd001`bdf2e380 ffffe001`fdca6010 0x1dbf1b
05 ffffd001`bdf2e388 fffff801`16fd44cf 0xffffe001`fdca6010
06 ffffd001`bdf2e390 ffffe001`fc6794e0 atikmdag+0x1244cf
07 ffffd001`bdf2e398 00000000`00000002 0xffffe001`fc6794e0
08 ffffd001`bdf2e3a0 00000000`00000000 0x2

And there it is! The ATI driver is the one responsible for all the mess
It is always strongly recommended to use the Graphics drivers provided by the manufacturer since they contain special tweaks. Kindly download the Display Driver Uninstaller from this **LINK** and uninstall the currently installed ATI Driver. Once the driver has been uninstalled, please download the driver from this **LINK** and then install it and see if the problem is solved or not.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Pranav

I keep getting BSOD related to that specific sys file every time I've played some game. I believe it's Graphics card related, so I updated the drivers and it didn't help. Watching videos doesn't cause BSODs. I ran the debugging tool, but it didn't reveal any new information to me since I'm no programmer, so all those Hex strings are complete gibberish to me

Well anyway here is the minidump file from yesterday of the latest BSOD

In looking through your driver, I can see that you are using Symantec Antivirus program. Third party security program are known for causing BSOD and this is not an exception. Please remove it for testing purpose.

If you need a program to use in the meantime, use Microsoft Essential Security, it's free and haven't known to be BSOD cause:

.....I still recommend you to reinstall Ati driver. Remember to remove all trace of old driver first before installing new one.
Also, I would suggest you to enable Driver Verifier. Because the stop code D1 is usually device drivers as You can see in the quote above. Driver Verifier will flag bad drivers.
Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Drivers

Hello there mate, I'm not an helper or so, but I already have experienced that and it was because the drivers you currently are using. Somehow, catalyst 10.12 are causing BSOD's on some systems, specially on 64-bits. Try to remove your system drivers by using some software like Driver Sweeper and install 10.11 ones. Test and check if it continues.

This is typically caused by the wrong or corrupt display driver installed. In your case, the ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver.

Hello,
I got blue screen quite sometimes in the past.

But now i got it this blue screen of atikmdag.sys every time when starting the windows. Now I can only access windows through safe mode and in normal mode by disabled the graphic cards.

I don't know if its because of my hardware or it just the driver version is too old. I did try to uninstall the driver and downloaded a new version from AMD website but it didn't work for me. I even reinstalled windows but it also no good as well.

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem. Please give me some advice.

Thank you and sorry for my bad English since it's not my first language.

I am trying to help somebody with an older HP laptop that runs windows vista. I did a factory restore at which point I was greeted by a BSOD caused by atikmdag.sys. Does that mean the video card is bad? I tried to go into safe mode but it tells me that the factory restore process cannot be completed in safe mode, and just restarts. But when I try to boot up into normal mode the BSOD is displayed. any work around or solution? thanks

A:atikmdag.sys BSOD

The factory restore will need to run until it completes - in normal mode.
However, if it is stalling at atikmdag.sys [display driver] then the factory restore files may be corrupted.
But as you say, it could be the video card.
Do they have the Vista install DVD - I ask the question but probably already know the answer?

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

Lot's of Windows Updates failures in the WER section of the MSINFO32 report. If the problems continue, please post over in the Windows Updates & Activation - Windows 8 Forums for further expert assistance with this issue.

Your UEFI/BIOS dates from 2012. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the UEFI/BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard. If possible, use the "inside Windows" flash mechanism (if your OEM provides one) - that is much more forgiving than the traditional (floppy drive) flash method.

What were the temps on the video card just prior to the BSOD? I see that HWInfo was running when the system crashed.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Also, uninstall the AMD Audio Bus driver as it dates from 2012

Please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Beyond that, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics Be sure to run all of the video diagnostics - as I suspect a video issue.

Hey, just recently I've received a BSOD with the description as stated on the title. My graphics drivers have caused BSODs in the past, just wanted to know if this was anything specific/different in which there would be a different way of dealing with it. During the time of the BSODs, I wasn't doing anything that would put strain on the card itself, just general browsing.

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone my first thread here and hope my last in this section but I have some problem that I cant solve myself since I know almost nothing about PCs I desperatelly need help with some BSODs I have being experiencing since almost when I bought this PC back at june with vista Intel Corse Quad GHz Gainward ATI Radeon x GB RAM Windows -bit No overclocking done Very often during games that by no way my pc should have any problem at least at the settings I am using I will get some strange little red squares all over the screen along with some strange sound and then BSOD will appear When I restart into safe mode everything will be fine but sometimes when I restart again in normal mode I will get another BSOD Also when I used to have vista the windows told me that quot ATI drivers have stopped working properly quot even though I had the latest version Now that I have win though windows will try to find a solution but nothing and BSOD atikmdag.sys will come up like I click on BSOD and atikmdag.sys the button quot find solution quot the loading bar will appear but then nothing And last thing finally is that for some reason CCC wont start and instead the message quot CCC Host BSOD and atikmdag.sys Application has stopped working quot will appear everytime I start my PC So that is pretty much all I have tried myself BSOD and atikmdag.sys many things like various versions of ATI drivers but no luck Any and I mean it help is welcome and if you need more info on my specs just ask I will probably spam F all the time untill someone answers PS about the DMP files when I open them with debugging tools the rst one is about a ntokrnl exe nt d b while the rest about atikmdag sys atikmdag a PPS also here is a driver scan DriverAgent com - THANOS-PC just in case an important driver is missing

Hey guys so I've been getting some random BSOD errors every few days or so I usually leave my computer on when I am at work or sleep and either when I come home Random BSOD error ntoskrnl.exe (address driver ntoskrnl.exe+74ec0) or wake up my computer is off So I turn it on and it says that the computer didn't Random BSOD error driver ntoskrnl.exe (address ntoskrnl.exe+74ec0) shut down properly when I start up I downloaded the BlueScreenView and noticed I've had some BSOD three times within days One Random BSOD error driver ntoskrnl.exe (address ntoskrnl.exe+74ec0) was a PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA error which I believe was a RAM problem i bought new RAM and installed it plus OCed it to but I believe it was making my system unstable so I reset the speed to default and haven't gotten that error again but after that I've gotten two IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL errors related to ntoskrnl exe I did some research online and from what I read it could be a number of problems I'm just not sure where to start and could really use some guidance and advice I uploaded my dmp files for anyone who knows how to look at these Thank in advance

 HARDWARE DIAGNOSTICS

A few of your dumps (0x50, 0x124) are pointing towards hardware errors. 0x124s are usually always hardware errors but rarely give us an indication of what the problem actually is. In this case we may have struck lucky as this particular one shows up ASUS AI Suite III. The utilities listed below are the ones I'm concerned about.Attachment 353971

Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Next uninstall Virtual CloneDrive, as vclone.sys is as fatal as SPTD.sys, too.
After doing these two, report the situation back.

**************UPDATE 5 ****************

The sequence of events went as follows.
RAM test 1 pass was passed. Verifier.exe caused immediate BSOD on windows start when activated. Trying to hunt down drivers revealed any combo of 3 or more drivers gave BSOD at startup. Randomly decided to recheck RAM. Failed memtest after 27 minutes pass 1. Found one RAM stick that passed after one pass slot0. Got fed up of waiting for other slot's. Devised a plan to use verifier to check the RAM by seeing which combo's of RAM sticks gave BSOD on startup. All combo's passed. And now verifier does not give BSOD on any setting. Began to hate life. Cheered myself up with prospect of sleep. Put all 16 Gb RAM in properly and ran mentest for 18 hours, 6 passes. No error. Still no verifier.exe errors when enabled. Wrote this update.

If RAM failed after 27min one test, and then after swapping around a retest of 18 hours has no error, one would presume the RAM may be ok. Equally, I believe one could say the RAM is suspect. So, if the test is failed it really doesn't tell us anything except there is a problem somewhere. But we know there is a problem since we have BSOD!!! If I hadn't rerun the test I wouldn't question the RAM.

So the question is: how do I categorically ensure that a stick of RAM is good? Is memtest on RAM with an alternative working computer enough?

In summary:

I ran memtest for 18 hours, which was 6 passes. No problems detected. Using verifier.exe with protocols given on this forum I no longer get BSOD.

Currently my hypothesis is that the RAM was never seated correctly, or given that it takes a bit of force to insert correctly into motherboard, the flexing has at least temporarily defused whatever fault was causing my BSOD. Tenuous I know. But I really have no other explanation other than something somewhere on the motherboard or power is failing, or even the RAM.

I'm getting random Blue Screens and can't figure out why. I'm not running any hardcore programs. I'm mostly just using Microsoft Office and Firefox. The BSOD's seem to happen when I'm in Outlook, Excel or Firefox. Haven't been able to determine exactly which at the time as I'm moving back and forth between them quite often.

I've tried the SFC command and it didn't find anything. I used BlueScreenViewer but not a lot of help. All drivers for sound and video have been updated. I've also updated the firmware to the Crucial M4 SSD version 040H.

Any insight would be great.

Update the firmware of your Crucial M4-CT256M4SSD2.

And, Uninstall McAfee Using McAfee Removal Tool. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Free up the startup.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus and touchpad driver SynTPEnh.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.

Hey all. I've been experiencing more and more frequent BSOD. I'm super newbsauce, by the way.

I'm thinking it has to do with my external HDs (one eSATA, one USB). The BSODs occur both when when few programs are running or when I'm running tons. Troubleshooting hasn't got me anywhere.

Attached are the minidumps.

I'm on 7 64 Premium.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Just been thru most of the dumps & nearly all of them are showing
Bugcheck 0xA or 0x9F
nearly all of them pointing at L1E62x64.sys
This is a driver file for an Atheros NIC or ethernet controller
Try updating this driver or if its already the current version try removing & reinstalling it & see if it helps

Hi.

I had BSOD problems over a year ago and this forum helped me to clean them up.

Recently, they've begun popping up again. I've followed the instructions and attached the minidumps and system health report.

I'm on Full Retail Windows 7 64, and have been since around the time of its release.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:BSOD - minidumps incl.

Minidump is clearly pointing at your intel 5100 wireless driver, you should head over to intel and search for an update (or even just download and reinstall it fresh)
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

You actually have a number of pre win 7 drivers here that could also be giving you issues.

you also need to update the driver for your samsung printer, the one you are using is not properly compatible with windows 7.
Samsung

Your conextant modem is also outdated (it's like you aren't even using this device, if that's the case I simply suggest disabling it in your device manager [control panel - system - device manager])

Winbond MCE CIR Port driver (infrared receiver) is also outdated and I do not believe a proper windows 7 driver exist for the device it's very likely it's also not in use and can be disabled as well.

The driver for the Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller ndis miniport driver Is also pre win 7 - Most atheros drivers can be found here

ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows

The actual error crashing you is being caused by the aforementioned intel wireless device driver specifically. It would not hurt to do something about the other outdated drivers as well though.

Hi all,
I recently bought a new computer and it's been driving me nuts.... For the last couple of days I have been getting BSOD after BSOD . Most of them seem to be related to the video drivers, and other ones I can't really make out. I've uninstalled the video drivers(used to have the current version on the AMD site) and went to an older version, but still the BSOD's are happening.
I have put my most recent minidumps into this dropbox and I've also included the DxDiag.txt.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, I have been banging my head against the wall trying to find out what to do about these BSODs. If I need to provide anymore info, please let me know.

Thank you,
Dani

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (atikmdag.sys)

Hello!

I recently upgraded my hard drive+fresh install and since I've experienced a couple BSoD errors. I believe both times the errors occurred I was watching some plugin-forced html5 youtube videos. Also every BSoD error required me to manually power down the computer as it never restarted itself after collecting information.

I'm not really sure what could have went wrong. I've only installed windows, updates, and the ATI driver via 'auto detect and install tool.'

Any help would be great!

30 mins before the BSOD I had graphics twisted and flashing when playing Heroes of the Storm. I found out that there are available driver updates for AMD which was the 15.7 version. Updated it and after awhile the whole screen went into a purple blur. When rebooted it gave BSOD errors. I googled about the atikmdag.sys BSOD errors and the problem seemed to be with the drivers. Followed some of the instructions there but to no avail.

Things that I have tried:

Uninstall (with Display Driver Uninstaller in Safe Mode) and reinstall drivers
Install drivers in custom (without CCC)
Install older versions of AMD drivers
Expand atikmdag.sy into atikmdag.sys through command prompt (Instructions found in atikmdag.sys error BSOD on startup [Solved] - Graphics Cards - Graphics Cards)

I can only boot to normal mode when the drivers are uninstalled/disabled. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Haven't had any BSODs in a long time until the last month or so, maybe 1 every other day, always related to atikmdag.sys which I believe is the video driver? What would cause it to suddenly start crapping out on me like this?

Hello, I've been having problems with my video card. It continuously crashes when playing games (Warcraft, Supreme Commander, even Doom 1.) and I've tried updating(and rolling back) the drivers and the problem persists.

System Specs:
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32x
Vid Card: ATI All-IN-WONDER X800 XL
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor from Dell 1280x1024(32bit, 60Hz)
(Other information on the DxDiag file)

I've checked Event Viewer right after the crash and have found the error. The Source was 'atixmdag' and the event ID is '45062' category 'CRT'

This barely started last week and my computer was just reformatted two weeks ago.

Thanks to anyone who can help, or try to help!

I don't suppose you tried the very latest driver which is the 8.6?

I have been having random BSOD's ever since I bought this laptop about a year ago First is the page fault in non paged area BSOD page_fault_in_non_paged_area BSOD, atikmdag.sys this one happens randomly no matter what I am doing and makes operating my system impossible forcing me to system restore to the original drivers that came when shipped This one happens very frequently after I update the graphics card to atikmdag.sys BSOD, page_fault_in_non_paged_area the latest ATI drivers Second is the IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL this BSOD only happens when I'm browsing the internet or downloading this happens less often and is bareable This happens when I am running with the old ATI drivers I have tried everything I can think of beyond replacing hardware I have re-installed windows remounted and swapped the RAM remounted the gfx card and HDD for what its worth Also removed old drivers with driver sweeper before installing new ones and ran chkdsk and memtest overnight with no errors I am at a lost as to what to do I atikmdag.sys BSOD, page_fault_in_non_paged_area suspect its the RAM and ATI software conflicting or maybe bad RAM Any advice on how to fix would be greatly accepted Thanks

Hi.

In this order,
Remove avast from your system.
Download, install and use the Microsoft security essentials with windows firewall.

Download and install the new version of Driver Sweeper.
Download the most recent software\driver for your ati AMD Graphics Drivers & Software.
Uninstall ati software\driver,restart in safe mode, run driver sweeper, choose only AMD-Display and clean, restart in normal mode.
Install the new ati software\driver,restart.
Update DirectX.
Read very carefully the instructions and run the video-card-test post here the results.

During the gpu stress\test have always in mind the temperatures!!

I have been getting a BSOD error saying that atikdmag.sys had some error. This usually occurs while browsing files using explorer.

Things i have tried:
tried general system clean up, (spy/bloat/mal)ware (spybot S&D) and Antivirus (avast) sweeps
Uninstalled ati drivers, no error received while they were uninstalled.
installed JUST the latest video driver as was recommended in this thread, error came back.

computer was up and running fine for 3+ months before the BSOD started happening. It happens randomly while im browsing files, but there is at least one folder i can go to that always re-creates the issue to test... it usually happens when there are video files in the folder (i suspect it may be a thumbnail generation issue?).

required BSOD zip attached, thanks in advance for any help.

I've been experiencing BSODs for a month or so. They seem to happen randomly. No new hardware that I'm aware of. I'm attaching the zip file created by the file capture tool listed in the instructions. I'm grateful for any help received. -- Steve
