BSOD and occasional screen freeze (especially when playing games)

Q: BSOD and occasional screen freeze (especially when playing games)

Hi, i've been getting occasional screen freezes and more recently BSOD, mostly when playing games.

I would appreciate any help or advice you can offer from the files i have attached as i'm not able to read any of the crash dump files.

Thanks!

Preferred Solution: BSOD and occasional screen freeze (especially when playing games)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

MSINFO:

I suggest that you set everything to default as O/C is very risky, and could be the potential cause of the BSOD.

All the dump files are blaming hardware. Please do the following:

Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For your hardware stop 0x124 crash, read through Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try and use the following hardware checks to supplement that link.
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

Run all but the advanced tests with SeaTools for HDDs.SeaTools for Windows

SeaTools for DOS
Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Hello So I began having issues with my PC freezing up or giving me the BSOD while playing games Half of the time my picture will distort and freeze When this happens the whole computer is unresponsive then ends up requiring a reset The other half I will receive the BSOD When this began I used HWMonitor to try and narrow down the issue and notice my CPU temp would spike up to c during heavy load Screen Freeze games. Sometimes BSOD while playing So I cleaned my case out put new thermal paste on and brought a new heatsink This got my temp down a lot to about c during gaming and c while idle Although I made this change I still had random freezes and BSOD I also ran Memtest to make BSOD Sometimes Screen Freeze while playing games. sure my memory was ok and everything came back clear Last but not least I upgraded the firmware on my SSD Unfortunately I'm still not having any luck I don't have an extra GPU or PSU to narrow it down anymore but would hoping maybe you guys might see something that BSOD Sometimes Screen Freeze while playing games. could be at fault before I buy any replacement parts So far that where I'm currently at Thanks guys BSOD Sometimes Screen Freeze while playing games. Hello. I have recently been getting BSODs while playing League of Legends, which hasn't been a problem in the past. I've included the .dmp compressed files. I'm very ignorant about this stuff. Help is appreciated.

Long story short this doesn't happen ALL the time nor does it happen with every game However i have only ever had this happen when playing games I want to say the most frequently i have gotten a BSOD is maybe once a week Most of the time it goes weeks to a month without a BSOD However since this last BSOD got in the way of me playing Watch Dogs something has to be done P Any who i have tried digging into it myself in the past but I'm not very technically versed when Occasional playing BSOD most games when it comes to these sort of computer issues sort of wish i was as this seems to be a regular instance for me - - Now i can assure you it happens with or without the TI in there as well that is strictly a dedicated PhysX card and even when i haven't had that card in I still get a BSOD from time Occasional BSOD when playing most games to time Last time i was here which was a pretty long while ago it was due to AVG that i was getting Occasional BSOD when playing most games a BSOD I do not have AVG Occasional BSOD when playing most games installed i had switched to ASC and i did not have an issue with it after i got it As far as any new programs none that i can think of and this has been going on for probably the better part of months so remembering all the way back then will be near impossible at this point lol so TL DR Happens only when I'm playing games doesn't happen all of the time nor on every game and could crash while playing a game then after i boot back up as if nothing was wrong and i continue gaming for another week if you need anymore info please just let me know

For starters I can see that you have this software installed.

Code:
Advanced SystemCare Ultimate "c:\program files (x86)\iobit\advanced systemcare ultimate 7\asctray.exe" /auto Nate-PC\Nate HKU\S-1-5-21-2186068897-3197056060-4268552884-1000\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
I recommend you uninstall this software as it is known to cause quite a few issues.

Right, I can see that for some reason CPUZ is getting blamed, I've personally never seen that get blamed before and many of us use it without problems.

Code:
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for cpuz136_x64.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for cpuz136_x64.sys
Probably caused by : cpuz136_x64.sys ( cpuz136_x64+20ea )
I will suggest an uninstall for the time being.
I'm seeing a lot of Hardware Abstraction Layer routines which look quite a bit suspicious, in fact specifically PCI related routines.

Hi, I've been getting this BSOD every so often, usually when playing DOTA 2 or Just Cause 2.

It doesn't happen immediately, I notice the game's framerate dip, and then the BSOD occurs.

I am running a laptop with Windows 8.1. (x64)
It has a nvidia 745M with optimus, and an i7-4500u.
Model is a Clevo W840SN

I have ran memtest with no errors appearing.

Thankyou.

Hi,

The latest attached DMP file is of the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f) bug check.

This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.

If we run an !irp on the 4th parameter of the bug check (blocked IRP address), we get the following:

Ensure you have the latest video card drivers. If you are already on the latest video card drivers, uninstall and install a version or a few versions behind the latest to ensure it's not a latest driver only issue. If you have already experimented with the latest video card driver and many previous versions, please give the beta driver for your card a try.

Hi Guys,

I'm new here. I tried to fix this problem myself to no avail. I also ran the windbg but couldn't get any info in Google on how to fix the problem (none I could understand, at least). According to windbg the problem is probably caused by Wdf01000.sys ( Wdf01000+52a46 ).

Also, I've ran a memtest before and no problem was found. My PC is currently overclocked, checked it for stability when I first built it and it was stable for 5 hours running cpu-stress tests. I already added more voltage to my CPU to ensure it's not a lack of voltage. Let me know if you want more info on my system. I have it in my profile here, let me know if you can't see it.

Anyway I attached my log files from the DM Log Collector. Hopefully someone can help me out with this.

Hi dex1206.

There is only one crash dump in the uploaded zip, so suggesting based on that one only.

Uninstall the installed Version 0.7.1000 of MotioninJoy Playstation controller. Then go to Playstation 3 controller(Dualshcok 3 or Sixaxis) driver for windows | MotioninJoy and get any earlier version and install it.

Driver Install - Device Manager

Let us know the result.

I started getting this today for some reason. My setup had been the same for the last 6 months or so and out of nowhere while playing a game I had installed for a month I instantly got a BSOD. I tried updating my gfx drivers but didn't really help much at all.

I also get some random errors when trying to load them up now after a few BSODs (i.e. explorer.exe stops working then restarts, desktop manager error etc.)

My specs:
Win7 x64
Gigabyte MA770
Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 ti
Phenom II x4 940

No OCing involved

Here are the dump files

Based on the behavior you describe, check for file data corruption:Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations.

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

If not experiencing BSOD's, please also upload this report:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

First off, a disclaimer - I am not familiar w/8.1 so my analysis is based on Win8 RTM
8.1 is (as I understand it) a Developer's Release - so it can be expected to have bugs.
In the end, the only sure thing will be to revert to Win8 RTM and wait for the RTM version of 8.1

Ensure that you have ALL Windows Updates. This is very important!

You have 4 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

The symptoms sound like a video problem - and there are video errors in the WER section of MSINFO32.

This is getting really frustrating... I can be sim racing or whatnot and the game freezes on the screen yet keeps playing in the background. The game continues to work but the screen is stuck.

My video card then resets itself (changes resolution, refresh rate, or colour quality). GPU temp is 78C, card is a Radeon 9800XT.

Why does it keep doing this?

Welcome!. Just a few questions: do you overclock your system? Have you gotten the latest windows updates? Did you have anti virus software (other than Microsoft Security Essentials) installed? did you change any hardware prior to the beginning of the BSODs?

Every once in a while my PC just freezes (usually while gaming, sometimes even when not). It doesnt reboot or anything, it just stays frozen.

Hope someone can help me with my Problem

A:PC Freeze while playing games (league of legends) No BSOD

If you are running AMD graphics drivers this is your answer. League of Legends is one of the games in an extensive listing of games that AMD asks if you're running when graphics drivers crashes. I don't play those types of games...but I just got a new computer 4 months ago which runs AMD HD radeon 8400 graphics. After a couple automatic driver updates to the current version 13.12 I began having random driver crashes while streaming online tv. I began exploring the internet & there's loads of information documenting this problem which is a pandemic that plagues AMD Radeon graphics in all chipset series from the 5200-7975...To date there is no fix...AMD (if that's the graphics card in your system) has a reporting form on their website for you to log the crash report...they ask for all system specs be submitted. I think they're compiling data so that a fix (or patch) can be designed....until then, the freezes [what my computer does...locks up, everything freezes & once I got black screen] will continue to happen. I guess you just sort of have to put up with it or get the graphics card replaced with some other architecture (branding). I did find info. with a few complaints about intels i3 graphics also having glitches. I'm sort of regretting having gone with the AMD, I knew nothing of this in my purchase decision. There was nothing to indicate there was an extensive flaw in the update for the drivers. I wish I could "roll back" the driver but don't find that option in these new systems [unlike in Windows XP]. I even went through my warranty tech support who did a reinstall of the drivers for me but it didn't rectify the problem...& the AMD website is useless because their DIY tech support refers to reinstalling the graphics drivers but the version on their website are the ones causing the problem.

Just got a new PC and I'm experiencing BSODs while playing games (generally high end games). Sometimes there is no BSOD and the game just crashes, or the GPU driver stops responding and recovers.
I tried everything I thought of, that is clean install of GPU drivers, updated all other drivers and even a Windows format, but the problem still persists. Attached please find the latest dump files and a DxDiag system specs file.

Thanks

Hey guys.

So, a little backstory - last month, I RMA'd my motherboard (MSI Z97S SLI Krait) and re-installed it. A couple of weeks later, I got random BSODs. There doesn't seem to be a definite pattern to them. Some are while I'm playing a game, some are while I'm just watching a video. Some days, I don't see one at all. The error I've seen mostly is IRQL_not_less_or_equal.

I'm thinking it's a driver issue, though I have no idea where to start looking. I tried using the Windows debugging tool, all I could find was "probably ntkrnlmp.exe".

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey there!

I've been having problems with my Samsung RF-711S02 Notebook in the form of BSODs while playing various games. General activity before a crash is as follows: Playing a game on the main screen of the laptop and having a website etc open on my other screen. After a while, the comp starts heating up like mad and then I get a screen freeze that lasts for about a second, after which 2 seconds of normal runtime, then BSOD.

Dumps and DXDiag attached into the post.

If any more info is required, let me know.

A:BSOD playing games on a 2 screen setup

Okay took a look at the files you provided and there were three things that I noticed that may be causing the problem. First please uninstall Daemon tools then download and run this tool:

DuplexSecure - Downloads

When you run the tool if the uninstall box is grayed out then you are done and can close the window. If it is not grayed out click it and let the tool run. DO NOT click the install button it will install a driver known to cause BSODs.

Next please update your graphics card drivers they are rather old:

Hi,

I have a problem with my laptop. Sometimes while running a full screen program (no specific program caused the error) a BSOD would occur.
My Hardware:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 540 @ 2.53GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
(Vista) ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730
(for more specific hardware information please check the dxdiag.txt I've attached)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)
I've never re-installed the OS and it came pre-installed in the laptop.

Thanks for your help.

A:BSOD mostly while playing full screen games

Hi,

Multiple different errors and bugchecks, software related errors but there's also a mention of memory corruption in there, so I'll want you to run a Memtest just to be sure. Since you mentioned you're BSOD'ing in Full Screen games, I'd recommend uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics card drivers to ensure this is not software related as far as graphics drivers go.

Few drivers mentioned as faults:

Netw564.sys was mentioned in a dump as a cause (Intel Wireless WiFi Link Driver). Update here to be sure.

usbvideo.sys was also mentioned, but I believe something is driving that to fault.

Quote:
Do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files. Start - type in Search box - COMMAND find at top of list - RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN

sfc /scannow

Out of date driver(s) that need to be updated:

I'm assuming you mean "Integrated Graphics" when you say "No graphics card". Do me a favor, go to Start. Type "dxdiag" and hit enter (it doesn't matter if you hit yes or no in the dialog box). Take a screenshot and post it. The first tab and the "Display" tab please. I'm going to guess this is a DirectX issue.

After years of faithful service my Latitude D is in deep trouble - and I would like to save it Here are the symptoms Almost always on power-on The screen illuminates slightly but is blank with no DELL splash screen The Num-lock light comes on briefly then goes off Caps-lock and Scroll-lock remain off The disk light goes on off and flickers The Bluetooth light is on The battery light goes on off at least with the power - occasional freeze & screen boot, D630 then splash adapter plugged in Very occasionally on power-on The splash screen shows Sometimes but not always a menu appears asking what I want to boot The D630 - occasional splash screen & boot, then freeze OS nbsp Linux Mint boots The login D630 - occasional splash screen & boot, then freeze window appears Sometimes I can login and use the system for a few minutes but soon the screen freezes When the OS does start the display appears normal until it freezes -- with one exception once as I recall lines diagonal maybe appeared across the frozen display The D has two memory modules so on the advice of another I tried both modules each alone in the slot under the keyboard and also with the other one in the slot on the bottom of the computer Same problems Is there any hope for my D

A:D630 - occasional splash screen & boot, then freeze

In case anyone is ever interested in this problem (which I am beginning to doubt), I will say that I solved it with the help of partspeople.com, a supplier of replacement parts for Dell laptops.
Eventually, the screen was always blank, but the POST code suggested that there was nothing wrong with the laptop per se, and connecting to an external monitor revealed that the NVIDIA graphics processor had failed, a common problem with this model. That required purchase of a motherboard and replacement following instructions and a video. Now my D630 is running fine with Xubuntu 14.04.
There is hope for old hardware.

Analysis:Your crashes primarily indicate hard disk problems. This could mean hard disk corruption, bad sectors, a failing hard disk, Windows files or registry corruption, viruses, or memory problems. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log (you may need to search for wininit instead of chkdsk).
For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

Run all Basic tests with SeaTools: S.M.A.R.T. Check, Short Drive Self Test, Drive Information, Short Generic, and Long Generic. Run the tests for all HDDs.SeaTools for Windows

SeaTools for DOS
If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.

Download and install Malwarebytes, update it, do not start the free trial, and then run a full scan. Also run a full scan with your antivirus software installed on your system. If you do not have antivirus software installed, see the Good and Free system security combination. for better security steps and scanning tools. Make sure to update the security software before running the full scan.

   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

Hi there.

My PC is currently crashing without a BSOD when playing games. The screen just goes black, but my computer stays on. I have to power it off manually with the power button. I've previously had issues with BSODs showing an error with atikmdag.sys , but they were very infrequent. This type of crash has been happening multiple times a day.

Thank you so much for your help!

A:Black screen from playing games, previous BSOD's from atikmdag.sys

Hello Duecez.

A stop 0x116 is a graphics related error. And for it, you need to follow the guide: STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Let us know the results.

Hello, First post here I am having a BSOD/screen while playing games. it will usually "green screen" or kill the video signal completely, and will sometimes force the PC to reboot or I will have to manually reboot it.

Problem randomly started, used blue screen viewer and it says caused by "watchdog.sys" caused by address "watchdog.sys+3e1d"

Crash address
"ntoskrnl.exe+142760"

I just joined the site a few minutes ago as I could not figure this problem out.

Downloaded the "dm log collector" and followed the BSOD posting instructions, looks like it collects a bunch of files for diag'ing.

debug zip is attached.

(I have been trying chase this down for 2 weeks now.)

PC Specs
I7-3770K
12 GB RAM
DZ77GAL-70K MOBO
Windows 10 Home
AMD ASUS 380X OC'ed edition. (GPU)

Thanks in advance.

A:BSOD/Green Screen While Playing Games (Debug Zip Included)

Please remove / disable items from the startup in taskmanager
These programs could interfere with the boot process giving you trouble and increase the boot time.

I see 2 0x119(VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR) in the event logs and 1 0xEA.
The 0x119 is focused on the graphics card where the 0xEA is focused on faulty hardware and drivers.

Please remove any overclocking if present and test your system.

Please uninstall everything of AMD using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from AMD. Be sure to ONLY install the display drivers using custom/advanced options.

A:BSOD no Errors or blue screen - Playing High End Graphics games

Ok so I had a look at the files you uploaded it seems however there are no dump files so firth thing i would like you to follow this tutorial so that we can ensure your system will actually be creating dump files upon BSODing:

Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

The next thing i notice is that your Primary drive is an SSD so if you could please ensure that the firmware is up to date.

Code:
Model OCZ-VERTEX2 ATA Device
Next I would like to address that you seem to be running three different antivirus programs:

Code:
Start Menu\Programs\AVG 2012
Start Menu\Programs\Avira
Start Menu\Programs\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013
I would like you to either remove all three of these and replace them with a combination of MSE and Mbam at least until we can rule them out as the problem, and even then you should only be running one not three.

respective removal tools for the antivirus programs:

Kaspersky removal tool

AVG removal tool

Avira removal tool

Next I note that you have Daemon Tools installed, this is a known cause of BSODs, please uninstall it and once it is uninstalled download and run this tool:

DuplexSecure - Downloads

when you run the tool, there will be a box with three buttons the only one you need to be interested in is the Uninstall button if it is grayed out , then Daemon tools is gone. DO NOT click the install button it will install a harmful driver that is known to cause BSODs.

Next on the list if you are overclocking at all on anything, stop.

and the last thing, I notice that you have a Razer Lycosa keyboard, the older drivers for this keyboard are known to case BSODs you can update the drivers here.

A:Freezing and occasional blue screen in games

Your error is 0x3B and these are often caused by faulty video drivers. Try the following:

1. Download Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper (both have free versions; make sure the version will work with your OS) to your desktop screen and install.

2. Download the latest diver(s) for your video card but don't install them.

3. Uninstall your video card drivers and reboot your PC into Safe Mode. Run Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper but ONLY for the video card drivers. I had someone use it on their chipset drivers! If it doesn't find any video card drivers that is quite okay.

4. Reboot and install new video card drivers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Before we can investigate the underlying cause please update this driver

Asacpi.sys

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Hi,
I hope you guys can help, i have read some great stuff on the site but can't seam to fix my problem.

I get a screen freeze and audio loop when using the net or playing games that used to run fine. Sometimes i can be on a web page for 2 minutes, other times 20. Same same with games like COD MW2. The only thing i can do is hold down the power button to shut down nothing else works.

Also sometimes i get a black screen where the display turns off just before it freezes.
No BSOD so no dump
Attached is a snippet from event viewer but i don't really understand it....NEWB

No problems watching movies, listening to music etc.

Thanks in advance

A:W7 64 bit FREEZE when playing games or net

Hi,

I am experimenting a similar issue with a new Toshiba A505-S6020 that I recently bought.

Configuration:
4Gb.
500Gb.
Intel Core i5

Seems like sometimes the notebook freezes without any good reason. I need to reboot it completely and start again.

Anyone knows how I could get any further information about this crash? I am not sure why it happens, but I noticed that sometimes that happened after hibernating.

Thank you

Hello everyone here at Win7 Forums! I've been lurking around looking for a way to fix this...

Every now and then when I start to play a game for a big (CSS/BF2/L4D/Gmod) Anything, really. My computer starts to freeze up, and skip it's audio. No BSOD's, no black screens, but just freezing.

My system specs are entered, so i shouldn't need to post them.

I really wish I could get some help on this as it's driving me insane!

Hi Folks first post be gentle New to me and my son reconditioned Fujitsu Esprimo P computer made around three years ago very little loaded on system so far Windows still busy updating at turn on and off seems about stable at service pack In addition to two recent BSOD events while son was playing LO Legends I have seen that sometimes when loading a new page the screen blanks to black and an error notice saying the and recovery occasional blackscreen BSOD graphics playing LOL, graphics driver has lost interest but recovered pops up as the screen recovers It doesn't hang around quite long enough for me to read it properly Anyway I expect the BSODs are when the graphic driver doesn't recover from BSOD playing LOL, occasional blackscreen and graphics recovery some similar drawing instruction so I expect some sort of graphics driver or bios update might be in order I haven't take the machine apart yet to see if something has shaken loose in transit Malwarebytes says no infection I wanted to check the RAM GB DDR fitted but I can't see how to make the USB bootable in the BIOS Duh plug the bootable USB in first The system has a built in Intel R G Express chipset for graphics I know nothing about Windows yet apart from using it at work but otherwise quite computer savvy better with hardware than software I was wondering about upgrading the onboard graphics with a new graphics card too if the current problem cannot be resolved or adding more memory Any suggestions gratefully received Think I've covered the main points here regards Rissole

Hi Rissole, I'm a noob too. You should firstly visit the manufacturer's site and download an auto update program. Visit intel for the G41 drivers.

Hello,

Seems the dump files are not in there. Go to this folder: C:\Windows\Minidump, check if there are any files in there.

If not, follow this Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD to make sure it is configured properly.

Other than that.

My problem is that everyone of the games I attempt to play freeze every single time I try to play them. They are just random lock-ups and the screen becomes a picture frame. A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress. - H2SO4

The generic nature of the 0x124 (Arg1=0) stop code means we would have to take
the trail & error approach.

I would have liked to have more than one dump file to perhaps see a pattern, do you have more?

Do you have any spare parts (or another PC) to test with?
The usual suspect of this kind of BCCode is the CPU but it's often not the the case which is why we need
to test other components to rule them out as the cause.
How old are your components?

What is the make, model and age of your PSU?
Fill out this form and post back the result:

Good practice, open up the case and re-seat all types of connection.
SATA Cables (HDD/SSD/ODD).
SATA-Power.
Motherboard 24-pin.
Motherboard 4/8-pin (CPU).
Re-seat the RAM.
Re-seat the GPU.
Make sure that every slot / cable head is free of dust or other obstruction.
Make sure that every connection is seating properly and firmly in-place.

Also have a look at the motherboard and the GPU, search for any "bad caps", bulky, leaking bloated capacitors.

i.e

Test for thermals and stability:
Download Speccy and post a Screenshot of the summary window, one at idle and another while putting load on the PC using Prime95 for the CPU side and Furmark for the GPU.Before running Prime95 make sure to enable Round-off checking (see 1st post under the tutorial).

Reset the BIOS back to default in case you're unaware that your CPU is overclocked:CLR CMOS

   Note
Write down the current value of the SATA Mode!
Its either AHCI or IDE.
After resetting the CMOS go back and verify the value for SATA Mode is what it was
when the OS was installed.

If any component is overclocked reset it back to stock speeds!

Hey, im having the most annoying problems. Fresh install for windows 7 ultimate x64, never experienced problems like this before. So whats happening, first off when i went to install windows 7 it took 6 times to get an install without problems. Secondly now that ive got a good install, im experiencing numerous problems. I've had 3 bsod's and a few times a day im experiencing crashes like i haven't seen before. The whole computer freezes. i cant even turn num lock on my keyboard and worst of all i cant even click the restart button i actually have to turn it off at the mains. i normally experience this when playing a game, but non of my components are overheating, i think it could be my hard drive as i had the problems installing software on previous windows installation.

Any idea's how to fix this?

A:Lenovo Y700 hang/Freeze when playing games

Seems like this is a windows file and the reasons could be as wide as corrupt registry entry to a corrupt windows installation.

Usually to check for windows errors, click on start then open CMD with admin rights
Type scannow /f
See if any error pop up

Since its a new laptop, you can try to Reset the PC to factory settings and install softwares carefully. Its possible the some software corrupted this file.
To Reset the PC (Note - This will delete all personal data) -
1) Shutdown laptop.
2) Press One key recovery button
3) Select (Advanced options) Troubleshoot > Reset this PC

Hello all,

I've been having a few problems with my laptop since I bought it. The problem mainly occurs when I'm playing a game (usually xcom: enemy unknown or deus ex HR at the moment) but has occurred when I'm browsing the internet (albeit far less often). The BSODs appear to be random but I'm using a blue tooth mouse and have noticed the BSOD will usually happened if I'm using it. I've also noticed that my laptop screen with black out for a split second on games that are quite graphics intensive for my system.

Its been frustrating me a lot so I reinstalled and fully updated windows 7. The GPU drivers are all up to date also.

I've attached the SF file that is required and would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks for your time

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress. You can read more on this error and what to try here... Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try: Stop 124 - What it means and what to try

Hello guys So here is my issue i dont really know how to specific it further then this still hope it will help I have been getting BSOD for a flash playing When BSOD player. playing games and while now and it's getting to the point BSOD When playing games and playing flash player. i cant do a single thing on the computer I did the config for dumps and so on and ended up with this RAR file with all the info i assume I mostly get the bluescreen when i try to watch anime etc on googlechrome It never BSOD When playing games and playing flash player. works it's a matter of seconds before the BSOD comes But when watching it on other browsers like opera it works just fine quot mostly quot even there it bluescreens from time to time And then there is when it's most fatal Playing onlinegames Whenever I play online games like World of warcraft League BSOD When playing games and playing flash player. of Legends Heroes of Neweart etc etc etc i risk getting bluescreens It differs very much from game to game how often the bluescreens appear and it seems to not be preformance related since sometimes i play constantly for hours when maxing out games and pushing the computer to it's limits when it comes to frames And still the bluescreen lies in dorment waiting for a more suitable interrupt for me From the looks of it the bluescreen is related mostly to my operatingsystem more then commponents after i looked at the dumpfiles via quot Bluescreenviewer quot I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this and i hope you guys can help me with this also this is my first post so I maybe did this typical quot bad thread quot Still i hope this will get me atleast closer to the solution of this current hell of bluescreens

Hi Guys,

I have issues with my desktop. I randomly get the bsod (kernel data inpage error). I thought it started after I installes the new ATI drivers. So I tried older drivers but without any result. After that I thought it was an issues with Win 7 64bit. So I installed 32bit. But still I get the bsdod.

can you please help?

Win 7 32 bit
oem original
hardware about two years old.
I have a new installed os.The old one started giving trouble after 2 years.

A:BSOD randomly after playing games or playing movies )

SP1 isn't installed, please do the following:

Quote:
Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates. May take repeated visits, but keep it up until you get several "Windows is updated" results.
If you're having difficulties with installing a Service Pack, please use the SURTool from this link: What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
Also, check out this troubleshooting link from Microsoft: Troubleshoot problems installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

I have had limited success in installing updates/Service Packs when using a "clean boot". I suspect that I'm just bypassing the problem - and that it can come back to bite me in the butt later on.

You have an 802.11n USB Wireless LAN Card. Win7 doesn't like these devices. They will rapidly spit out BSOD's if using Vista-era drivers. Here's my rant about these devices:

Quote:
I do not recommend using wireless USB devices. Especially in Win7 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 - and using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win7 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems.

Quote:
Please uninstall all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
Then, download and install a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Uninstall". Reboot for changes to take affect.

Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

STOP 0x7A specifically refers to a problem with a missing Service Pack ( BSOD Index )
The c000009d parameter means DEVICE_NOT_CONNECTED
And the memory dump suggests that there might be a hardware problem with the hard drive.
Just to be sure, please run this free hard drive diagnostic: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Microsoft Security Essentials dynamic driver showed up in the memory dump. I'd suggest:
- downloading a fresh copy
- uninstalling the current copy
- installing the freshly downloaded copy and IMMEDIATELY updating it
- perform a full system scan.

Hello, first time poster looking for help as I can't diagnose my issue after trying numerous things. Currently when I play a game the BSOD happens randomly, I can go a whole day without it, or it can happen frequently. It happens the most when I close or exit a game, then it'll kick to a blue screen.

I really appreciate what you guys do and I hope I followed all the instructions right on how to post my logs and stuff, here's the attachment and some basic system specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I have reinstalled to this computer numerous times.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad q9550 @ 2.83 ghz

GPU: Radeon HD 5770

Mem: 4 Gigs of Memory

Motherboard: p5n32-e sli nforce 680i chipset

A:BSOD Playing various games, closing games, no overheating.

Before we can even begin to find the underlying cause you need to update the following drivers. Especially asacpi.sys. Yours is from 2005

Code:
ASACPI.sys 3/27/2005 10:30:36 PM
Lycosa.sys 1/18/2008 4:51:42 AM
nvm62x64.sys 10/17/2008 5:01:06 PM
netr28x.sys 2/25/2009 11:02:09 PM
How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference

You probably dont need a new computer, however you are going to need an OS disk to do a repair install or clean install. If the computer came with win 7 there should be a serial number (5 groups of 5) on the bottom.

If you have a valid serial you can download an iso of the OS to burn to dvd.

Welcome to Seven Forums .

What you are experiencing is called a TDR (Timeout Detection & Recovery) and its not a real crash
in the sense that something wrong occurred in the Kernel.

Timeout Detection & Recovery (TDR) = "Display Driver Stopped Responding and was Recovered" is a useful feature that started in Vista and is also in W7 that allows the OS to try and recover from a video timeout so that the system does not crash to a bluescreen. Symptoms included a screen flash with the TDR message appearing one or more times or the screen blinking out to black. If the system cannot recover it will crash (Stop Error 116 typical). The issue is that the video card is not responding as expected.
.
.
.
.
There are numerous reports of hardware solutions to TDR's. The most common are:
Poor Cooling
Problems with the power supply
Overclocking Issues
Bad System memory or incorrect memory timings
Defective PC Components

More details HERE, please read.
Please roll-back to a known stable version:

   Tip
Pay close attention to part 3 of the tutorial "If you have errors"
Test the RAM with Memtest86+ for at least 7-10 passes. It may take up to 22 passes to find problems. Make sure to run it once after the system has been on for a few hours and is warm, and then also run it again when the system has been off for a few hours and is cold.

When done with the testing procedure take a picture and upload it here.

A:GAMES freeze/crash PC to Black Screen

I would suggest some hardware checks.

   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Hey.

I have been having an issue for a few weeks now where my computer will BSOD or freeze whenever I play certain games.

At first I thought it was a specific game (Xcom 2) that was doing it, but it has since started happening while playing other games that didn't have that issue in the past (One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 and Sonic Racing Transformed).

Any ideas?

I included the file as requested on the posting instructions.

Note I ran the program today, but I havent had a crash since yesterday so I am unsure if the information will be there? If necessary I can run Xcom 2 for a while to force a crash, but for obvious reasons I would prefer not to if it isn't needed. ^_^"

Could you take a picture of the crash, there are no logs about the crashes after previous month, a picture would give some info.
In case you're expecting or having trouble taking a picture because it is going to fast, it is recommended to uncheck 'Automatically restart' option

Hello everyone I recently got a PC that my office was getting rid of The PC was HELP! During Screen During Freeze Shutdown & Black Games on Hang in great shape and I was told it worked fine HELP! Hang on Black Screen During Shutdown & Freeze During Games when they gave it to me They ripped out the hard drive HELP! Hang on Black Screen During Shutdown & Freeze During Games and gave me the machine As soon as I got it I put a brand new Tb Seagate HDD in I also replaced the existing HELP! Hang on Black Screen During Shutdown & Freeze During Games RAM x Gb sticks with x Gb sticks with the memory speed to match my motherboard Finally I swapped out the ATI Radeon HD XT with a Nvidia Geforce GTX There was a sound card PCI I removed as well as a redundant fire-wire port I unhooked from the Mobo I then booted and performed a fresh install of Windows bit Pro Everything seemed to be going fine until I tried to shut down Windows would freeze on the Shutting Down screen I mean freeze because the spinning circle would stop and the entire machine was unresponsive I read online that pre-Service Pack Windows didn t like multi-core processors and would have issues shutting down so I updated to SP along with a bunch of other updates Now when I try to shut down the Shutting Down screen disappears and the signal to the monitor ends however the machine stays on I can hear the fans running and see the lights to the PCI cards still on Once again I have no option but to hold the power button until it shuts down I have looked up and down many forums with plenty of people posting but none of their solutions worked One extra note I double checked every driver and they are all up to day Also when I boot in Safe Mode the PC shuts down fine and I have no problem restarting just shutting down Here is where it gets worse I tried to play Starcraft and after a short period min the entire computer froze up I looked in the event viewer after rebooting and saw no error around the time the freeze occurred However I did see three other errors The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error Access is denied - and - The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first This error could be caused if the system stopped responding crashed or lost power unexpectedly - and - The previous system shutdown at PM on amp amp amp was unexpected Additionally I tried running Starcraft II with the absolute minimum settings and the same result occurred previously my default was high ultra I have attached my dxdiag and my mgadiag I could really use some advice for how to address this problem Thanks for reading nbsp

A:Games freeze and crash with weird colours on screen.

Do the weird color patterns disappear after you quit the game you were trying to play? How do you manage to get rid of the weird colors spreading across the screen?

Make sure you have the latest Radeon Catalyst driver for your graphics card.

Here are the newest drivers for your video card for Windows XP Pro/Home:

Click on the "Installation Instructions" on that page if you need them.

Make sure you uninstall the previous ones first. Keep us posted!

Hello So first of all I am not a computer wizard Some terms I might not understand as i've never had a problem like this before but i'll try to enlist as much information as possible Since last friday or so i've suddenly encountered a BSOD Now i've had them before and it was only once After a reboot it usually never happend again and everything was cool But since friday they popped up again Mainly during playing Battlefield but i've also had it happen during Dragon Ball Xenoverse I've had multiple BSOD errors which are - IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL - BAD POOL HEADER - MEMORY MANAGEMENT - SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION - APC INDEX MISMATCH Now if it were one I might've been able to pinpoint the issue but They're constantly different errors that happen Now to explain a bit more in detail how it goes So i'm just playing a match of Battlefield After minutes give or take it'll bring me to the multiple inside listed BSOD so playing games, far errors, BSOD 5 blue screen After processing whatever it has to process computer shuts down and it starts to restart At this point it will be stuck in an infinite restart loop where my monitor will not display anything as well It just says it's not connected to something which it clearly is After manually closing and rebooting i'll have to do this a few times or mess with the HDMI a little bit before I get my monitor to pop up again Once that happens I get stuck in the beginning screen where you can see your HDD SSD installed It won't go further than that unless I hit F There have been times where I had to go into BIOS and revert it to default settings as well even though I never change a thing in there but it worked Then it reboots back up as usual Very rarely i'll get an instant BSOD when it logged in but that only happens rarely Now the solutions i've been trying - Deleted graphics drivers all of them and reinstalled them Did not work - BSOD playing games, so far 5 multiple BSOD errors, listed inside Out of frustration reinstalled Windows Did not fix anything - Brought him in to a shop The BSOD's never appeared there and seemingly there's nothing wrong within the system according to him - Went BSOD playing games, so far 5 multiple BSOD errors, listed inside to my parents house to test there since I do not have a car Played games there no BSOD I BSOD playing games, so far 5 multiple BSOD errors, listed inside got the hope that maybe it was fixed but then I returned home tried it out and after or so minutes of playing Battlefield BSOD This time it gave me the IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL amp BAD POOL HEADER errors I've even been paranoid enough to think that it might be external hardware that is causing it Like my headset or speakers or SOMETHING that was different when I brought it to the shop or when I was home at my parents house Is that even possible It's good to know that i've had my current video card since release of the GTX and it never caused any sort of problem before Here are two dump errors I cannot show the others as they occured before I reinstalled Win so I do not have those dump files anymore but here are two of the most recent ones In case system specs are needed System Spec Computer type PC Desktop OS Windows x CPU Intel Core i GHz Motherboard Alienware JNH CPU Memory GB DDR MHz Graphics Card s MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX MSI I'm pretty desperate at this moment so any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks for the read

Sometimes upon booting up and often after resuming from Sleep Win 7 will freeze after starting any program.
Diagnostics shoes nothing, no virus or malware...

A:Occasional Freeze

Couple of things you can do. Run a few more on-demand malware scans. No anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a thing we'd all be using it. Some recommended products are:

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

Windows Defender Offline

Also suggest checking for any damaged or corrupt system files by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hi SevenForums

I've written a post ind here a while ago because of BSOD's while playing Diablo 3.

I tried everything during that communication.

They started happening again while playing Shadow of Mordor. Since then i also bought a second monitor and bought new RAM.

I just reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on freshly formatted harddrives and once i started playing Shadow of Mordor again, crash! I've played alot of CS:GO and it runs smoothly.

I'm getting really frustrated and tired of this and i'm beginning to think the last resort is to buy a new motherboard, cpu and GPU, since i cant narrow it down to a definitive problem since i've just gotten new RAM.

Can you help me? I've added the SF file.

Hello I've been going through some malware removal in another area of the site and was referred here I'm working on tuning up a computer for a relative he had at LEAST or different toolbars babylon conduit lesstab defaulttab etc plus a couple other fun programs that found their way in so I don't know if this is a persistent issue or new related to the malware removal Since then Windows will boot but it will Occasional freeze mid-startup occasionally freeze mid-startup I get to the desktop I get some Occasional freeze mid-startup icons in the tray but it never finishes The pointer moves but clicking is not responsive The only solution is to power off on and try again that usually fixes it for that one time Near the very beginning of the malware removal process it would freeze on the initial BIOS screen do nothing for a while then shut down I was told to run a diagnostic to check the hard drive state my particular model of Acer requires a change of boot order any time you Occasional freeze mid-startup want to boot from another device or don't have anything in the USB CD drives on boot In the middle of switching the boot order in the BIOS setup it shut down I haven't had that happen the last few times but I don't know if they're related or not I'm not sure if it's a boot issue or if a particular process is hanging in startup Occasional freeze mid-startup that wouldn't explain the BIOS related issues though I'm not exactly sure where to begin in finding the problem Any help or directions to head in would be greatly appreciated

For about 1-5 seconds, a program freezes and the audio loops, though the mouse remains responsive. Happens about every 1-5 minutes. The hdd light on my PC also turns on when it freezes, though I'm not sure whether it's the hdd itself, as resource manager doesn't show high usage. This also only happens with some programs, not everything.

GTX 960 AMD A10-7850k Radeon R7 8GB RAM 120GB SSD 750GB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

All drivers are up to date, and auto scans disabled.

Any help will be appreciated.
