BSOD connecting to wifi network

Q: BSOD connecting to wifi network

Im guessing this was after I tried installing an Atheros driver. After restarting and attempting to connect to a nearby WiFi network the computer goes straight to a BSOD. Help is needed fast and appreciated.

Preferred Solution: BSOD connecting to wifi network

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

It seems a bunch of people are experiencing problems with the latest Atheros network drivers. Try using the Driver Rollback feature in Device Manager, or else uninstall the driver and install an older version. Any problems, let us know!

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 0000000080050031

A:BSOD when connecting to network (Ethernet and Wifi)

I upgraded a Lenovo X301 Windows 7 x64 to Windows 10 pro yesterday and whenever I attempt to connect to the internet I will receive a BSOD. I can only get back into windows by turning off wifi and/or removing the ethernet cable. I can boot into safe mode and access internet just fine which tells me it might not be a driver issue.. I have disabled all start up programs and removed all anti virus applications as well. Please help. Thanks.

Hi, You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue. 1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on. 2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers and restart the unit and check if the light turns on. 3) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website. 4) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well.  Let us know how it goes!  ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

hi,

I'm using win8 release preview. It shows available WiFi networks to me but when i try to connect it shows cannot connect.
I have tried reinstalling WiFi drivers in win 7 compatibility mode, after this step it connects to network for 2 min or so and then disconnects and doesn't allow me to connect again. This happens every time I reinstall my drivers.
what should I do? please help

thanks..

Bumping to say that I bought Windows 8 and it created this problem for me, where the release preview did not. Strange.

I can see my wireless network but not connect. I ran through all of the built in diagnostic tools to no avail. Device Manager said my drivers were up to date. My other devices can connect to wifi fine so I know the problem isn't with my router. Please help!

A:my laptop is not connecting to wifi network

The following was put together mostly by etaf with a little help from me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atheros AR5007EG & AR5007
We have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters for over a year, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and windows Vista.

The adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
--- Please post back here if that works or does not work.

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver." That apparently has worked for some posters.

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section, as some manufactures, appear to now have a working driver available.
Toshiba - update has worked for some PCs
HP The latest HP Atheros driver dated Sept 2010 has fixed the issue - so check the driver date, However, that does NOT apply to all HPs / Compaqs machines
- the poster did an online scan for driver updates on the HP website here HP Product Detection which resulted in a solution. Solved: Can't connect to internet wirelessly - Atheros AR5007 Wifi through Clear Comm - Tech Support Guy Forums

If you can post the Make and EXACT model of your PC here, along with the windows version you have and we will see if we can find the driver and will post a link as a reply here.

--- 3) On one occasion re-setting the router back to factory default and re-configuring the router settings has resolved the issue

--- 4) A few posters here with the same issue have found that the driver from this site ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows resolved the issue

I do NOT know anything about the site mentioned ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows

However, if you do decide to try the driver, Please let us know the outcome

Direct link to the drivers are below
You only need to click on the green download button labelled " click to download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started

AR5007
Vista 32 Bit
Drivers for Atheros AR5007 and Windows Vista
Although this driver has shown up in BSODs (Blue Screen Of Death) on Vista SP2 systems, usually conflicting with updated Vista OS drivers like netio.sys, tcpip.sys and other networking related drivers.

AR5007EG
Vista 32 Bit
Drivers for Atheros AR5007EG and Windows Vista
Assuming that after all the above the wireless still does not connect to the internet, all I can suggest is to use wireless security of WEP or to get an external USB wireless card.

You might also bug your laptop's tech support about the problem--maybe people can put pressure on Atheros to find a fix.

HIMy HP250G3NOTEBOOK network adaptor won't connect to our home WiFi but other devices can still connect. I have tried disabling and enabling the network adaptor, making sure air plane mode is off, refreshing the PC, restarting the router and troubleshooting the network adaptor. I have also followed the steps on the HP network and troubleshooting. The WiFi can only connect if I plug in an Ethernet cable, but it is very inconvenient.  Thanks,Vanesia.

I'm trying to connect my desktop, whose wifi mysteriously stopped working, back into my wireless network. Having finally given up on doing it wirelessly, I was about to cave and go buy a long ethernet cable to connect to the router directly when I had a thought. Is it possible to connect my desktop to my laptop via an ethernet cable and then just piggyback off of my laptop, whose wireless connection does work?

I tried just plugging an ethernet cable in to the two computers, but that didn't work (and, in fact, screwed with my laptop's wireless, but that's another, already solved problem). I have no idea what other information you might need, so just ask.

A:Connecting to a wifi network via ethernet

I think what you have to do is go to the network and sharing center in Control Panel, click Adapter settings. Then highlight both adapters and right click. Select Bridge connections. I'm not sure if that does it or not. It's been a while since I've done something similar, but its worth a shot.

I have  a Lenovo Flex 2-14 with Windows 10. Whenever I connect to a Wi-Fi network other than the one at home I get a BSOD with DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Any ideas on what I can check? Thanks in advance. One of the characteristics is that when the PC restarts after the crash I can't see the network that I tried to join for about 2-3 minutes afterwards. I have checked that WIndows and the drivers are up to date.

looks like you have an ipaddress

can you do the following three pings tests

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG , Webroot etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ping Tests
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> type CMD to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

For Windows 8
to open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop. Use Win + X and choose Command Prompt or Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.

Type the following command
Ping {then a space and then add the number that is shown against the item labelled "default gateway" shown in the results from the ipconfig /all}
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping google.com
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping 209.183.226.152
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste
For your information only
these tests will check various stages of the connection, the first ping test, ping default gateway checks to see if you still have a connection to the router.
The next two Ping google.com & Ping 209.183.226.152 tests the connection to internet. google is to test by name and the ping test using a number is checking that a connection exists without DNS.
these tests then confirm if there is a dns issue on the connection.Click to expand...

Hi. I'm using a Gateway NV54 laptop and the wifi isn't connecting to the home network or internet. The wifi worked before the install, but not after. I have another laptop and the wifi works fine for it.

Recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64-bit. Installed all drivers. Current wireless driver is Intel Wireless LAN Driver (since the laptop uses Intel Pentium processor).

When I click my home network in the list of connections it asks for the security key. I put in the key and immediately it says "windows was unable to connect to this network." Tried this multiple times. I can connect with ethernet but not wireless.

Tried pressing Xfinity router wireless button to pick up the laptop but it didn't work. Tried logging into Xfinity router from the other computer and manually put the laptop's computer name and mac address into router, restarted router, still can't connect.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I have a HP Envy laptop running on Windows 8.1 (did not update. it came with it)
I have never had a problem connecting my house's internet network.
However, today i woke up, i turn on or restart the PC. it was already on, and i tried using the internet, i wasn't connected.
I lsearched for my wifi network. didn't find it.
Restarted the PC and tried disabling and then re-enabling the adapter, still couldn't find it.
Rebooted the router. nothing happened.
I even reset the router and still couldn't find it. (firmware up to date) (Netgear)
This only happens to my Windows 8 PC.
All other devices (PCs, Phones and tablets...even the TV) are working fine wirelessly.
That's why i posted this on Windows 8.
The PC works perfectly using an ethernet cable.

Hi -
I have a brand new (5 days old) Toshiba A505 running Windows 7 64 bit.
On restarts and coming out of hibernation, the connection to my home router seems to take an excessive amount of time to connect -- about 5 minutes sometimes.

I run ZoneAlarm and AVG (Free).

I haven't touched any settings (that I know of) but it seems like it should pick up the Wifi right away -- instead, I often just have to wait and wait and wait and sometimes not until I hit the troubleshooting option does it connect.

Any ideas what could be happening or how I might be able to fix this?

Thanks,
Adam

It could be many things. I would start looking at your networking. I assume you are running homegroup. If so, homegroup sometimes, on some systems, has connection problems. You can see if that is the problem by making a new network connection and using workgroup instead. If it works you can disable IPv6 and kill homegroup

Let us know if you need help

A:Connecting to home wifi network limited

Call your Help Desk. My wife's does that, until she goes in and disable the Proxy in Internet Properties in Control Panel. Just remember to turn back on.

The first time she brought it home, because they replaced her older unit. IT had made a Fat Finger mistake in the VPN connection.

So when she tried to get on our home WiFi, it did the same as yours. Plus her work a GPO, to restrict her from using any LAN or WiFi connection, but the company's.

When I was at someone's house I was trying to get online but her network didn't appear on my list moreover she had a different network that showed up that she said I should use. It asked for a username and password so she had me go into network and sharing center and create a profile for it that let me go online. Now i am at another store and I cannot easily get online. When I connect to WiFi my pages don't load. Is there something I have to remove in that setting I changed to use the wep internet? Posted from my phone cuz I can't view the internet on my pc.

A:no connecting to wifi after making network connection wep

You need to change the WIFI security from Wep to WPA2 or WPA2 PSK.

A:D-Link wifi stick not automatically connecting to network

I'm guessing the D-Link device came with a wireless connection manager software? It's possible that it's not set to automatically connect which you should be able to change. If at all possible there should be an option to allow windows to control the wireless stick, that way you can make sure it's set to automatically connect.

A:Issues re-connecting to existing open WiFi network

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. If it is an integrated adapter get the driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

After I updated to 8.1 from windows 8, I have not been able to connect to wifi.

PC can boot as usual, I can see the available wireless, when it comes to the part to key in the SSID password it goes bluescreen on me, with with error KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and no other information.

I have tried:
1. Reinstalling the wifi adapter drivers (its the standard Dell 1506 802.11bgn, notebook is Dell Latitude E7440)
2. getting the latest windows update

All to no avail.

Checking in Device Manager shows all devices are installed correctly

With limited information on the error I have no idea what causes the BSOD. Hoping someone can help decipher the minidump here (not even sure if my minidump is correctly created).

Anyway, any help would be much appreciated!

Recently, I was just using my PC and surfing the net like a normal human being. Then after one night, as i tried to connect to my internet via wifi, windows suddenly changed my wifi network name from "c8daed" to "c8daed 2" and loses internet connection. I tried the reconnecting thing and deleting and scanning again and managed to bring back the "c8daed"(without the #2) and regain my internet connection. but after a few seconds, my PC started to crash and gave me the legendary BSOD. Please help me for this really bugs me alot. thanks! By the way i have attached the file that the forum requires me to give information about the BSOD

Hi Skhiburdhurs.

Install Service pack 1 and all other windows updates. Otherwise the system will remain vulnerable to threats.

Code:
Windows 7 Kernel Version 7600 MP (4 procs) Free x64
Product: WinNt, suite: TerminalServer SingleUserTS
Built by: 7600.16385.amd64fre.win7_rtm.090713-1255
Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
Service Pack and Update Center - Microsoft Windows

The crash dumps are all stop 0xF4, should not be related to networks, but relates to storage.

Test the HDD using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows.

Get rid of intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.
Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
It will open the "computer management" window.
Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.
About WiFi networking, the driver to the USB adapter is too old.

A:BSOD error when connecting to wifi

Welcome to SevenForums

Looks like the BSOD was caused by F-Secure Distributed Firewall Driver.

Please uninstall it and see if the issue persists. (Look for its removal tool in Google, or uninstall using Revo Uninstaller [Free] Advanced Mode)

What antivirus are you using BTW?

Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:- Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows
Malwarebytes - The Free version
Good and Free system security combination.
Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

You might also want to look for updates on your graphic card drivers.

Hi,
we deployed a RADIUS wifi network using PEAP with MSChapV2 for authentication (FreeRADIUS server). While it has always worked with all of our Windows 7 clients flawlessly, we are having issues with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 clients. Connecting works again
fine if a local user account is used. As soon as we use a domain-joined account it will not connect.
We are using a certificate signed by our company's custom certificate authority for the RADIUS server. We've verified that the CA is correctly installed and also tried a connection without verification of the certificate.
We are also using the latest available driver from Intel for the wifi card.
Do you have any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks in advance!

Hi, i have been experiencing BSODs for 3 days not. At first it started when I connected to WiFi, so i switched to ethernet cable. Now it crashes when i am using the ethernet cable as well. I tried searching for solutions but i don't understand much about computers. I have the minidump file but i don't know how to show them here. I tried using driver verifier and now it crashes every 20 minutes without even connecting to the internet. I cant put my computer into safe mode, it reboots even if i press shift +f8 and i cant create recovery disk. Can anyone please help me solve this.

A:BSOD when connecting to wifi and using ethernet cable

At one point during the repeated boots you should get a prompt to try startup/automatic repair.
You can also try forcing a restart when the little spinning dial is at the bottom of boot screen (by holding down the power button)
Select that, and then you can select Safe Mode to boot into.

Try each one of the options here: Safe Mode - Start Windows 8 in
If you still can't get into Safe Mode, you can always boot using your recovery media in order to access Startup Repair.

The very first thing to do in Safe Mode is to disable Driver Verifier
To do this, open up verifier.exe and select "Delete existing settings". Then click on Finish and reboot to let the changes take effect.

To upload the minidump file, zip it up and then upload it using the Attachments tool below the reply box.

I'm trying to fix my nieces laptop. She said she was getting frequent BSODs, and she couldn't connect to the internet. When I started working on it at her house it appeared to be connected to the router(Had the correct gateway IP for the router, and showed the machine had been assigned a valid IP), but I couldn't even ping the router. I took it home to try it on my network, and every time I try to connect to a network(wired or wireless) It gets a BSOD(STOP: 0x0000008E).

One other thing, Windows security center is turned off, and trying to turn it on produces an error message(Security Center service can't be started).

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude D620 with a Dell Wireless WLAN. I connect to my wireless connection at home fine, but any time I take my computer to a wifi hotpsot, it cannot connect. I SEE that there is a network there, I click "connect" to that network, and my computer doesn't do anything. My Wireless is set to obtain IP addresses automatically, so that is not the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might try to fix this??

Thanks!

The BSOD is due to a:

Hi guys I m trying to set up my wifi on my old ASUS P AD E XP Pro SP but the WPA encrypted wifi doesn Wifi lag "Connecting XP to on Network" Setting t seem to register with XP I have all my Windows systems easily paired with the WPA wifi but when I go into Network settings in XP XP picks up on the Wifi SSID name but when I double click on the network name and type in the -key WPA key it shows the message quot connecting to Network quot for about - minutes then the box dissapears without connecting to the Wifi network Everytime I click on the SSID name it asks to enter the passkey but it then lags for minutes telling me it is connecting to the network but it never does Also I need to always go into quot services msc quot to enable the quot Wireless Zero Configuration quot so that XP can search for the Wifi network I have the Wireless Zero configuration set to quot start Automatically quot but I always have to click quot Start Service quot button in order to even search for the network The adapter card installed on Setting Wifi on XP "Connecting to Network" lag the motherboard Setting Wifi on XP "Connecting to Network" lag is a quot Linksys WMP G Wireless G- PCI Adapter quot I also tried to use the Setting Wifi on XP "Connecting to Network" lag onboard ASUS wireless driver that is integrated with the motherboard but when I tried to enter the key WPA code the ASUS Wifi control panel software was asking me to enter either -digit or digit hexadecimal codes I was able to use the onboard ASUS wifi previously with my older wifi modem from my different service provider but I guess the hardware is now too old to accept newer encryption from my new service provider router that uses WPA Do you think the Linksys card is also too old to accept the modern WPA encryption WIN XP SP with Linksys WMP G PCI Adapter MOBO ASUS P AD E nbsp

A:Setting Wifi on XP "Connecting to Network" lag

it maybe - as its a hardware requirement for WPA2
try seeing if there are any updated drivers available for the device

If you have NO security or WEP Security setup on the router - will the XP PC now connect ?

Hi

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a Dell Inspiron Laptop. I also have Ubuntu 11.10 as a dual boot option on this machine.

Recently I got a BSOD with the following error -

DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE

Since then Windows does not recognize the Wifi network adapter. It is not there in the Device Manager at all.

It does not seem to be a hardware problem because when I boot using Ubuntu, the Wifi works without any problem.

Can anyone guide me how to solve this issue. Since the adapter is not being listed in the device manager, I don't know how to update or reinstall drivers.

Thanks

Hi there

This USB Wifi adapter seems to be a MEGA performer --Lovely finally to be able to THINK of getting rid of LAN cables all over the place.

I've no probs with decent HD Movie streaming from a SERVER with one of these (I unplugged the LAN and inserted the USB Wifi adapter into a USB3 slot --note this needs genuine USB3 to work at proper speed). My Home router can deliver 802.11ac so no probs there.

Brilliant piece of kit and NO MORE CABLES !!!!!!. Wifi will soon be able to deliver comparable speeds to LAN especially for HOME networks. !!!

Here's the UK Link but is available in US and Europe. In any case it's delivered (in my case) by Amazon S.A.R.L (Luxembourg) so no tax !!!. even though I ordered from UK web site --they will ship outside UK tax free.

Hi guys, I found an old computer in my basement from 2005 maybe, it's running windows xp. Anyways, I'm can't figure out how to connect it to my xfinity wifi. Every time I press connect to Internet it asks about modems. I've googled how to connect it and I can't seem to figure it out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

A:Help connecting to wifi

Hey Ryan. Is this a laptop or desktop. If it's a desktop, it likely doesn't have a wireless adapter that will allow connection to you wireless network. If it's a laptop, right click on My Computer,Properties, select Device Manager tab, then look for Network Adapters and click once on the + and see if you see any wireless adapter listed and if it is enabled. You can enable/disable a wireless adapter by right clicking and toggling between enable/disable. In either case, it probably needs quite a bit of work to get it up to date, and assuming everything else seems ok, I myself would start from scratch and reformat the drive and reinstall XP (assuming you have an XP disk for it) since any maintenance programs are just as old. If you're not sure about this, tell us the make and model number of this pc.

I have two wifi APs (let's say AP-1 and AP-2) and I sometimes have to switch from one to the other. The AP-1 is my main AP so it is always set with "Connect Automatically" for boot up. But, a lot of the time it does not connect to either AP on boot.

When I need to use AP-2, I select AP-1 and click "Disconnect."

I select AP-2 and Click "Connect" leaving "Connect Automatically" un-checked.

After using AP-2, I again select it and click "Disconnect."

Then select AP-1 and make sure the "Connect automatically" is checked, then Connect.

At the next reboot, about 40% of the times it connects to AP-1 but the rest of the time it connects to neither even though "Connect Automatically" is still checked..

Anyone have some thoughts on how to force this so that it always connects to AP-1 on booting up?

Info in your profile in the system specs would help greatly...PC/Laptop maker, model, ditto on the network adapters from your Device Manager. A screenshot of your adapter page from network and sharing...what anti-virus are you using, error messages you may have gotten while trying to connect, search for and install Xirrus WiFi desktop gadget, will show you signal strengths and channel info of surrounding connections. I can guess you have an HP with Atheros wifi adapter, have you tried updating the driver for the adapter at HP?

Hi FoldedBrick, and welcome to TSG.

FoldedBrick said:

Well, you or somebody else at your house is going to have to supply a bit more information about the WiFi set-up being used.

1) Name and brand of the wireless router or wireless access point being used to share the Internet connection.

2) The SSID of the wireless router or wireless access point and if it is set to broadcast the SSID.

3) What, if any kind of wireless encryption is being used and the key or pass phrase for that encryption. You do not need to tell us the actual key or pass phrase.

4) If the wireless router or wireless access is using any kind of MAC filtering to limit which computers and other hardware can connect to the wireless router or wireless access.

My laptop has problems connecting to my wifi. Im using a D Link 524 router and my laptop has vista. Itll connect automatically very good for a few weeks then all a sudden have problems where the only fix is to unplug the router and reset. If it does connect, sometimes it says it has limited access or the little world wont appear and I wont have internet access. My wifes Kindle sometimes has problems also and my signal is strong.

A:Wifi connecting problems

Sounds like you may need to do a DNS flush,

Click the Start button.
On the Start menu, click Run....
If you do not see the Run command in Vista, enter run in the Search bar.

Type the following command in the Run text box: ipconfig /flushdns
Let me know if this helps and good luck.

You can use connectify hotspot lite free version for this.
Connectify - Turn your PC into a Wi-Fi Hotspot and Get Faster Internet

Or you can set up a hosted wireless network manually using the guide in the link below.

Is there anything i can use on my end to boost thecreception strength?

You could get a wifi extender which would make the wifi signal stronger & improve the reception for your wireless devices. There's no guarantee a wifi extender will solve your buffering issue but it should help.

Hello y'all,
I have the Linksys WRT54G, vers.6 encoded with the most recent firmware update by Linksys. Since that update, I have had some inconsistency keeping online with my all the computers in my home network. Is this caused by my habit of having hardwired desktops (2 of them) on all the time while simultaneously using my WiFi connection for my laptop? Should one or more items be shut down? The update was originally made as a result of my rather weak WiFi connection (it didn't help that).
Thank you.

A:Connecting with WiFi and Hardwire

You should be able to freely use the wired and wireless connections on a wireless broadband router. If that causes problems, something is broken.

With the firmware update, did you reset to factory defaults and reconfigure? If not, try that first.

If you did reset to defaults and reconfigure, contact Linksys and find the download for the older firmware and see if that fixes the issue. Obviously, you should reset to defaults and reconfigure for any firmware change.

So I want to connect to my schools wifi and I DO NOT want to get a virus from some dumb kid who has a virus on their computer.  If windows firewall is set to public network, is there anyway to virus could spread over the network and install itself onto my laptop without me doing anything?  Does windows firewall block that?  Do I need to install a third party firewall?  Sorry im just really trying not to get a virus and wondering if its possible for the virus to spread right to me.  Thanks!

I am not sure if this is in the wright section.

I have done a search for my problem and I cant find a salution. I have a storm2 with the lasest device OS version 5.0.0.1015 Bundle Platform 4.2.0.442. I am trying to connect to my home wifi network, which is the Siemens SE587 WLAN dsl. This router is using WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK security. My phone will have signal but will not connect to the network. after trying reboots, deleting the network and reinstalling does not work I reboot the router and then the phone will connect. It will not stay connected though if for any reason I loose signal it will not connect again until I reboot the router. I have connected to other wifi networks without a problem.

I would like some help with this problem it seems that I may have some setting wrong in my router but I am not sure which one is wrong.

A:Wifi not connecting to laptop?

The ipconfig /all is showing no wireless connection at all, but the Xirrus showed a connection but with a "bogus" gateway. I have no idea why the discrepancy.

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from Dell's web site. If that is already installed reinstall it anyhow in case the installed instance is corrupted.

If still not good disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If that is successful try WPA-PSK (not WPA2) encryption.

I have an internal ATT Novatel Mobile Broadband Card that connects internally to the internet. Can I connect two computers using a router? What router should I use? I also want to use a print server. I do not have an external DSL modem.
The wireless connection says Dell 5520 Cingular Mobile Broadband (3G HSDPA)

Hi
I'm pretty computer savvy, but I cannot figure out the issue here.
My LG desktop won't load webpages. When I click on IE the main page loads, maybe after 5 minutes and if you try to load any other pages it doesn't go, or acts like it's on dial up. We have taken it to Best Buy for the Geek Squad and they thought they fixed it, up apparently not.
One error message I got was "The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken."
We have other computers running off the wifi just fine.
Runs windows 8
Thanks for the help!

A:Desktop not connecting to WIFI

Make sure you have the latest correct wireless driver installed, preferably from the PC (first) or adapter (second) manufacturer's web site.

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after each command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.
Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows Vista or latter I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Yesterday my son bought a Y700.  It wouldn't connect to our wifi unless it was literally within 5' of the router. We returned it to Best Buy today and exchanged it for a new one.  The customer service rep said it was probably a bad wireless card. We got the new one home and the same problem happens.  It will start to connect, then lose the connection.  Or not make any connection at all.  Plus, there's a warning on the hardware scan, "Local Connection Test....warning." I doubt it's a problem with our internet connection or router, because people use iPhones and other laptops in the house and don't have any problems wtih connections. If there's not a simple solution, we're just gonna give up on the whole Lenovo laptop idea.

A:y700 not connecting to wifi

Well, for what it's worth....we returned the second machine for a refund.   No more Lenovo for us.  We'll shop around.

I am having trouble with connecting to a wifi connection via my lap top. The lap top I run has windows XP. The host computer runs Xp as well. SOme days I can connect no problem with great speeds and other times it wont connect at all. It does show that I have (GOOD) signal to the wireless router, so maybe its something with the modem??? It goes day by day and I can not pinpoint exactly why this issue occurs so randomly.
Perhaps you have come across this trouble before.
Any questions feel free to ask.
Thanks
Ryan~

A:Having trouble connecting to WiFi

One possibility is wireless interference, such as from another wireless network on the same or close channel or a 2.4Ghz cordless phone.

Another possibility is that you have multiple wireless utilities (clients) running. What utility do you use to manage the connection? Are you sure that no other one is running?

Hi. I am new here and my English is not very good so be gentle to me :D

I have a problem with XP SP3 freezing.

Normally my notebook is connected to internet via LAN cable. And everything is OK.

But when I disconnect notebook from LAN and I turn off the Local Area Connection and I connect to the internet via WiFi, Windows after couple of minutes freezes. Even a coursor is freezed and I must restart notebook by pressing turn off button for 5 seconds. Then when I turn on notebook, it starts, but after startup (1-2 minutes) Windows freezes again. This is repeated until I turn off Wireless Connection and turn on Local Area Connection.

Can you help me?

why do you say this

It maybe a firewall blocking - or wireless security issue but lets start here
would you do the following

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here
-> Start
-> (XP - enter the following in the RUN box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all
-> (Vista or Windows 7 - enter the following in the Search box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all

A black box will appear on the screen -
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy

then reply here and
control key + V to paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
{Ping Tests}

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Type the following command
Ping google.com
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
Post back the results
rightclick in the box

Ping 209.191.93.53
post back results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------

{Device Manager}
Post back the results in device manager
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

I just bought a refurbished computer, and it has been working great except that it is not connecting to unsecure networks. I'm not talking about ones I should not be using, I'm talking about public ones that you don't need a password to use. It has been working most of the time with secure networks in which a login key and password is needed. However, there have been a few times where even then it doesn't work. It'll say that the signal strength is very good or excellent, but that there is limited or no connectivity. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Thanks!!!

What can I do to get my Samsung notebook with windows 8 to connect to my wifi network? My wifi network works with my phone and other computers. When I click on connect it says that it cannot enter this network.

A:Windows 8 not connecting to my wifi

whats the make and model of the router
have you entered the password , if the wireless is security enabled , try removing the wireless security and see if the windows 8 will now connect

lets see an xirrus screen shot
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector.aspx
Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/Xirrus-Wi-Fi-inspectorguide-1-2-1-RevB-6.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

To post a screen shot of the active window.
Windows XP
Hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

Vista or Windows 7
you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-use-the-windows-snipping-tool/

Windows 8
you can use the snipping tool > Open Snipping Tool (From the Windows 8 Start Screen, type "snip" and press enter.
>Press the Esc. key.
>go back to your Windows 8 start screen - Swipe from left or press Window Button
>Press Ctrl+PrntScr button to use Snipping Tool

Currently I am using a Dell laptop with XP which is connected to my house's wireless connection. SSID itself is an open WEP. I had no problem connecting with the XP laptop; it asked me for a password, I put it in and it worked. When I try connecting with my other Dell laptop with Windows 7, it won't ask me for a password and say, "Windows was unable to connect to _____."

I then tried manually connecting to the wireless connection under the network settings. I've tried all WEP options and made sure the password was correct countless times and still I'm unable to connect to the wifi.

I spoke with a Dell representative, but all they suggested was to pay for another help service.

I then tried manually connecting to the wireless connection under the network settings. I've tried all WEP options and made sure the password was correct countless times and still I'm unable to connect to the wifi.

I spoke with a Dell representative, but all they suggested was to pay for another help service.

Hello kao, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums!

Windows 7 does not support WEP. It is so old and insecure it is not much better than using no security at all.

Instead use WPA or WPA2 for your home wireless network security.

Cheers!

A:Connecting 4 Different Systems to 1 WiFi

What is the brand and model of your modem? What is the brand and model of your router?

And, what specifically is the problem you are experiencing?

Hi I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 laptop, and about 95% of the time when I try to connect tot he internet, the dialogue window pops up prompting me to 'Troubleshoot problems (win 7)! this wouldn't be so bad, but after selecting the troubleshooting, it still won;t let me connect!

The laptop has a Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC.

In Network connection properties the following is what I have checked:

Client for MS networks
Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Link-Layer Topolgy Discovery Mapper I/O driver
Link-Layer Topolgy Discovery Responder

Could it be from one of the above, like am I supposed to have two IP's?

Thanks
