Preferred Solution: BSOD starting Windows, error: 0x000000c9 Can`t start Windows.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

"I then activated the driver check tool inside windows"
=>how did you do that if you're unable to get in windows?

Hi,
I have not made any software chages that im aware of last time i was on my laptop. However now when i turn it on as normal and once i get to the windows screen and the windows sign has appeared it waits a second and then i get the blue screen. Then when i reboot and try to start in safemode by pressing f8 i only get start windows normally and launch windows start up repair options. Yesterday i did try to download skype and it froze my computer completely but i turned it off and on again and all was normal.

I have a Dell inspiron 1470 with windows 7 home premium 64bit.

ive attached a picture of the blue screen before it restats.

any help would be greatly appreciated as i do not want to loose everything.

A:BSOD on start up, cannot access safe mode, 0x000000c9

It's blaming Daemon Tools driver for a bug that I commonly see from it on older versions. However this is a nonfatal error so I'm not sure why it's crashing on it. Typically this error should only occur when Driver Verifier is activated. Did you ever turn on Driver Verifier? Otherwise, there may be a bigger issue here.

Anyways, obviously you're having trouble even entering Safe Mode. Make sure you are pressing F8 prior to the Windows logo appearing. You may need to keep pressing it as soon as the PC powers up until you get the display option to go into Safe Mode.

Hi all,

Attached dump files zipped folder.
I have been experiencing this BSOD 1 time, and the other BSOD (0x1000007E) 2 times.

I am currently running on Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.
Any other relevant information I will be gladly able to provide, let me know.

Kindly assist.
Thank you all in advance

A:BSOD error 0x000000c9

This is difficult because driver verifier is blaming something else which isn't the cause, wdf0100.sys to be precise.

Now for testing purposes there are a number of things I'd like you to try,
Can you please remove Avira anti virus just for now.

Secondly what USB devices have you got plugged in as there are a lot of USB drivers unloaded at the time of the crashes.

Code:
Unloaded modules:
fffff880`0b143000 fffff880`0b160000 ew_hwusbdev.
fffff880`09f71000 fffff880`09fa2000 WUDFRd.sys
fffff880`09e82000 fffff880`09e9d000 USBSTOR.SYS
fffff880`09e00000 fffff880`09e0f000 modem.sys
fffff880`09e0f000 fffff880`09e82000 ewusbwwan.sy <- This module is very suspicious.
fffff880`0b12a000 fffff880`0b143000 LtDevice64.s
fffff880`04593000 fffff880`045b8000 avipbb.sys
fffff880`06023000 fffff880`06045000 avgntflt.sys
fffff880`07c24000 fffff880`07c3c000 avnetflt.sys
fffff880`0b0b2000 fffff880`0b0cb000 LtDevice64.s
fffff880`0b024000 fffff880`0b095000 spsys.sys
fffff880`09fa2000 fffff880`09fbf000 ew_hwusbdev. <- Again it's a driver part of Huawei Technologies
fffff880`09f71000 fffff880`09fa2000 AODDriver.sy
fffff880`0190c000 fffff880`0191a000 crashdmp.sys
fffff880`0191a000 fffff880`01926000 dump_ataport
fffff880`01926000 fffff880`0192f000 dump_atapi.s
fffff880`0192f000 fffff880`01942000 dump_dumpfve
I have a strong suspicion your USB Modem/Serial Device Driver by Huawei Technologies is causing issues.
Please remove it completely.

Hi and welcome to SF andreassyz .

You appear to have had several bug checks but only one is uploaded, if there are more please upload
the rest. Manually check the minidump folder.

Code:
C:\Windows\minidump
If dump files are present in that folder copy them to the Desktop, zip and upload in your next post.

Start by disabling Driver Verifier:
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
The bug check appears to have been caused due to a very old driver.

Code:
lmvm ifsmount
start end module name

Loaded symbol image file: ifsmount.sys
Image path: ifsmount.sys

Driver Reference Table - ifsmount.sys
What do you use Ext2fs for? is it vital?, If not, please remove it completely.

Please reset your pagefile, you can afford it.

Code:
Drive C:
Free Space 215.26 GB (231,131,619,328 bytes)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
Page File Space 300 MB
Reset your Page File:

1. Start Menu> Run >type control.exe system
and press the Enter key.
A windows will open and on the Left hand side you will see Advanced system settings, click it.

2. Next click on the Advanced tab and Settings which correspond to the Performance section;

3. Then the Advanced tab once more and click on the Change button;

4. Untick the checkbox next to Automatically manage paging file size for all drives;

Select No paging file and Click on the Set button;

5. Confirm all the windows.

6. Restart the PC.

7. Reverse the procedure, by following steps 1-3, only this time select System managed size
and click the Set button;

8. Recheck the box next to Automatically manage paging file size for all drives
and exit the windows by clicking the OK button;

9. Confirm all of the remaining windows by click the OK button
and restart the PC once again to take affect.

Post back with the results .

Hello,

It appears to be your network adapter that is causing the issue. Specifically, the athrx.sys file. Try updating your network adapter drivers.

My friend has a virus on his laptop, which deleted his winnet.dll files. After trying everything he could he decided to do a restore. When he tried to restore he said it was taking way to long and decided to just to turn off the laptop. Leading to more problems, now every time he tries to boot the laptop it shows the loading files followed by the Windows loading screen. After that it shows a blank screen with the mouse. Anyway to fix this.I tried booting from safe mode but that didn't work, it would just crash with a BSOD (http://i.imgur.com/LZ784.jpg).

His laptop is a Toshiba I3 core processor Windows 7 Home Premium.

A:BSOD error 0x000000F4, when starting up windows 7.

When he restored, did he simply use Windows restore to go back to a previous point, or did he try to use the Toshiba restore partition to set everything back to a factory install?

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

* I am a big fan of Nir Sofer's work, BUT blueScreenView more often than not, doesn't point out the correct causes. Similarly Who crashed is even worse.

I prefer to use WinDbg (the Windows Debugging Tools) to read the memory dumps. It is the Gold standard for those of us that do this and often will give us the answer by itself. (we don't need the full jcgriff2 report each time).

Hi BassGaz

The F4 BSOD is a hardware issue mainly hard drive .

The aswRvrt.sys has to do with your Avast Antivirus .

Let's see if we could uninstall Avast in Safe Mode with Command Prompt . While the PC is booting up tap on the F8 key . Once you get to the Advanced Boot Options menu screen choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt and press [ENTER] . Log in once the command prompt window comes up input these commands

Gentleman,

I am not computer savvy when it comes to these sorts of things.
The heading states it all and am wanting a bit more of an insight
at any problems that may be occurring etc.. Also, as of late I have
noticed that my DVD player refuses at times to read a DVD movie
or game title, and only after a few open / closes it seems to work.

Please find attached my Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2I for more
information. I look forward to your response to my query above.

I've had my PC for two years and had one issue with BSODs before but that was related to an issue with my 0x000000C9 BSOD Bootup On RAM clock rate Now my PC BSODs on boot up with BSOD 0x000000C9 On Bootup a x C error code but no associated text description I cannot boot the PC into safe mode to access the dump files either I will attach a screenshot of the BSOD Just to check I ran a full system virus scan using TrendMicro House Call from a USB drive It detected no threats I searched the code on Google and got no useful information and searched the sys file that the BSOD mentions dtsoftbus sys but all fixes seem to require getting into the file browser which is impossible in the computers current state I'm posting this from my phone and will not have access to a full USB port of the time as I don't have a laptop I appreciate any responses and would like to thank you for your time

A:BSOD 0x000000C9 On Bootup

This is caused by Driver Verifier. Your BSOD you are having are non-fatal. Your lucky you didnt have a fatal paramenter. Backup your data and re-install windows. That should fix the problem.

0x23E
Non-fatal error
A driver has marked an IRP pending but didn't return STATUS_PENDING. (IRP specified.)

Hi All

Have been following a number of threads to identify my issue. I can only assume that a driver is at fault as when i run verifier i have to start in safe mode. Attached is my mini dump, can anyone help me identify where the issue is?

Thanks a lot

Lordmwa

EDIT - Added the full lot of info from the diagnostic tool

A:Random BSOD, ran driver verifier now got 0x000000c9 BSOD

Hi lordmwa.

It appears that you have driver verifier enabled. And the verifier detected the Logitech Camera driver, twice, in two crash dumps.

First, disable Driver Verifier. Then update the logitech drivers from Logitech Support - Downloads, Manuals, FAQs & More.

It is a Desktop PC, and magicISO is not a must for it. I would suggest you to uninstall it, at least upto when you find your computer is stable. mcdbus.sys causes system instabilities.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Let us know the results.

Boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

Open the Command Prompt and type in bootrec /fixboot.  Please notice the space between the bootrec and the /fixboot.  Now press Enter.

Reboot to see if this resolves the issue.

Please read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.
Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.

If you have illegal/cracked software, cracks, keygens, etc. on the system, please remove or uninstall them now!
Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.

If I don't hear from you within 5 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.
Step 1
Please post the FRST scan results. This will help us diagnose your problem.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Then Disable driver verifier and let the computer run normally. If the BSODs occur again, post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Asrock does not have any feasible update. Get it from Etron Technology, Inc..

Now disable driver verifier. Run the computer normally. Let us know how it is running.

Hello all,
First time posting here so let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.

So I have been having BSOD pretty regularly after a recent erase and install of Windows 7. At first it started off my keyboard would stop responding and I would have to restart my computer. The thing about that is it would hang at 'shutting down" and not do anything. Now I'm getting BSOD with mostly the same errors about twice a day with the keyboard thing. I tried using Verifier but it keeps crashing before it gets into windows. I'm attaching the dump logs from the SF Diag tool.

A:BSOD Few times a day 0x000000c9 (dumps inside)

Hi GenericHero, welcome to SF .

I can relate as Iwas experiencing pretty much the same things you are that is why when going through
the dumps the picture painted in my head was a dying motherboard, which is what I had .

How old are the components?

Greetings ptarafdar and to BleepingComputer's Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal forum. My name is Oh My! and I am here to help you! Now that we are "friends" please call me Gary.If you would allow me to call you by your first name I would prefer to do that.===================================================Ground Rules:First, I would like to inform you that most of us here at Bleeping Computer offer our expert assistance out of the goodness of our hearts. Please try to match our commitment to you with your patience toward us. If this was easy we would never have met. Please do not run any tools or take any steps other than those I will provide for you while we work on your computer together. I need to be certain about the state of your computer in order to provide appropriate and effective steps for you to take. Most often "well intentioned" (and usually panic driven!) independent efforts can make things much worse for both of us. If at any point you would prefer to take your own steps please let me know, I will not be offended. I would be happy to focus on the many others who are waiting in line for assistance. Please perform all steps in the order they are listed in each set of instructions. Some steps may be a bit complicated. If things are not clear, be sure to stop and let me know. We need to work on this together with confidence. Please copy and paste all logs into your post unless directed otherwise. Please do not re-run any programs I suggest. If you encounter problems simply stop and tell me.When you post your reply, use the button instead. In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see the button. Click on this then choose Immediate E-Mail notification and then Proceed and you will be sent an email once I have posted a response. If you do not reply to your topic after 5 days we assume it has been abandoned and I will close it.When your computer is clean I will alert you of such. I will also provide for you detailed information about how you can combat future infections.I would like to remind you to make no further changes to your computer unless I direct you to do so.Now let's get started ===================================================Now that I am assisting you, you can expect that I will be very responsive to your situation. If you are able, I would request you check this thread at least once per day so that we can try to resolve your issues effectively and efficiently. If you are going to be delayed please be considerate and post that information so that I know you are still with me. Unfortunately, there are many people waiting to be assisted and not enough of us at BleepingComputer to go around. I appreciate your understanding and diligence.Thank you for your patience thus far. I've been having this problem on my desktop PC for a while now, but when it started happening on my brand new laptop, I decided to post here:

If I attempt to load firefox or internet explorer shortly after starting windows, nothing happens. I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to see if iexplore.exe or firefox.exe are running, but the task manager does not appear. I can open some folders and general programs (such as CD autoruns or setup files), but not all, fine, and internet programs do not start. After several minutes, suddenly all of the programs I attempted to load previously open at once.

It doesn't happen every time either, just sometimes.

I've been through the HijackThis forum, they tell me I have no problems in my log.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Programs do not start for 5/10 minutes after starting Windows.

Sounds like bloatware. Bloatware is all the junk your PC manufacturer puts on the PC when they ship it to you, such as ITunes, MusicMatch, Nero, etc. They all usually start at startup. Go to Start>Run>Type "msconfig" without the quotes. Go to the startup tab. You should see a whole list of files/programs. Uncheck anything that you do not need/want and hit OK. Restart and click the checkbox and OK on the message that appears on boot. It should load faster now. If not, let us know.

A:Windows Not Starting - Will Not Allow Start-up In Safe Mode Either

Two things to try: first, boot from the Windows XP cd, and once in Windows setup it will tell you to press f2 if you want to repair your XP installation using Recovery Console. do this. Once in RcoveryConsole, choose your windows installtion and type chkdsk. This will check your HD for errors. Ifit finds any, your HD is probably bad, and is causing the eroor you keep getting. If it does not find any errors, type in fixboot. This will fix the bootsector on your HD. After this completes, type fixmbr. This will fix the master boot record on your HD. Once your done with these things, restart and see if you can get into Windows. If you still cannot get into Windows, boot from the windows cd again, and this time instead of going into recovery console, elect to install windows XP. It will search your HD for previous installations, and when it finds it it will give you the option of doing a repair installation. Do this. What this does is reinstalls all the system files, but leaves all your programs and files intact. This will certainly fix the problem, if the previous method did not.

This morning I booted up my computer to see my Internet wasn't connecting which is normal for my connection. It normally requires I just reboot and its fixed. So I rebooted but it got stuck at the Starting Windows screen with the windows logo. I'm running windows 7 home 64 bit. 2 days before I installed some new driver using the driver manager that comes with advanced system care. I hadn't rebooted since I installed those drivers so I'm hoping its just the drivers causing windows to take its time. I haven't been able to get into windows yet. Any help at all is appreciated. Thank you.

A:Start up freezes. Hangs at starting windows

Welcome to Seven Forums DCashley. I'd try booting to Safe Mode and see if that will load. If so, got to

Start> In search box type System restore> Enter> Pick a restore point from before you added the drivers with ASC

System Restore

See if that fixes the issue.

If you cannot get into Safe mode, follow Option Two to get to SR from your installation disc.

I am not a fan od ASC at all, too many times helping fix issues only to find ASC was involved. I know people love it, but not me (and others here). A Guy

A:Windows 7 won't start, hangs on "Starting Windows" screen, no logo

Update: Last night, I think the Startup Repair option finally worked but I wasn't watching the whole time. It asked me to recover so I said yes. When I returned 15 minutes later, it was at the login screen so I punched in my password and got to the desktop. However, Windows said it needed to restart for some changes to take place. I hit okay, and when it restarted, it hung on the "Starting Windows" with no logo again. I will try again today, but does anyone have any suggestions?

The damage to windows may be unfixable, this is why people are instructed to only use SDFix with supervised help andCombofix with supervision by a trained malware expert.http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htmRunning an oem windows xp sp3 disk as a repair might help but I would probably reccomend a clean installIMPORTANT NOTE: One or more of the identified infections (TDSS[random characters.***]) was related to a nasty variant of the TDSSSERV rootkit component.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...t&p=1070664

These were caused by a memory exception. Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
1-Memtest.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

2-Driver verifier

Quote:
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Your drivers should be found from your motherboard support site (ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, etc.) or your vendor support site (Dell, HP, Toshiba, Sony, etc.) first. If you have devices you bought yourself, the drivers for those devices need to be downloaded from the manufacturer support site for those devices. If you need help, let us know.

To remove drivers, do so by uninstalling the device or software associated with the driver. Devices can be uninstalled through device manager, and then the device itself should be physically removed from the system if possible.

3rd Party Drivers: The following is for information purposes only. My recommendations were given above. The drivers that follow belong to software or devices that were not developed by Microsoft. Any drivers in red should be updated/replaced/removed. You can find links to the driver information and where to update the drivers in the section after the code box:

Hi,

I recently reinstalled windows on a new SSD and since then I get a BSOD when starting the computer after it was turned off for some time. After the bluescreen appears and I turn the computer off an on again windows boots without problems. I did not change any other hardware, and before reinstalling I did not have any problems.
I already found out that it has something to do with the video driver and installed the newest and several older drivers, but the error still appears. Also Windows Update has installed all available updates.
I have Win7 x64 SP1, a GeForce GTX 570, Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4, Processor is an Intel Core2 Quad Q6600.
Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, I am just new here and I was hoping that someone here might give me an assistance regarding my problem in this case of BSOD, It occurred to me 3 times this day and this day only. I wish to know what this BSOD means. I wanted to analyze it myself but I am noob when it comes to computer fixes.

I've attached the following 3 Mini dumps that was created.
I hope someone here might assist me through analysis and some minor fix or even
just an explanation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:BSOD Before starting Windows

Welcome
It appears that your problems stem for your video card/driver. It is usually the driver. Go to the website of your video card and update to most current version.
Click on graphics drivers and your system will be scanned and you will be given the most recent

A:Windows xp not starting, bsod

Firstly make sure all your Hp drivers are up to date: HP Drivers if it ever gets to Windows again.

But if you don't mind re-installing
Then put the Windows disc in (or use the System Recovery, if it has that startup prompt)
Boot from CD
And remove the Partition
And then allow Windows to continue installing

A:BSOD when starting Windows 7

The error is that ntoskrnl.exe accessed memory in an unacceptable way (c0000005) and because of this a BSOD occurred.

Normally you wouldn't blame ntoskrnl.exe for this sort of error - because it's the core of the operating system and if it was corrupted, you would have many more problems.

So, please provide us with the information from this post: http://www.techsupportforum.com/1871981-post2.html

Hi guys.

So for some reason my system is blue screening just as it tries to load Windows. It lets me boot to safe mode but not normal. This started happening after I had been booted to Linux (USB) and finishing, I tried booting back to Windows and it just starts crashing. Not sure what's going on. Please help ASAP.

Additionally, I tried to do a startup repair and it returns saying the following:

Quote:
Root cause found:
-----------------------------------
System volume on disk is corrupt.

Repair action: File system repair (chkdsk)
Result: Completed successfully. Error code = 0x0
Time taken: 36395 ms

It suggests I do what??

Kaspersky caused the crashes because of a pagefault due to an attempt to invalid memory what isn't allowed at this IRQL level or higher. IRQL is the priority scheme that the CPU uses when processing everything, this way the CPU knows what is for the hardware, what is for certain Windows mechanisms and what is for everything else.

Hi, I have a BSOD problem since I updated my drivers with Live Update I guess, though it may not be related. It happens sometimes when I start windows, the windows welcome sound goes all buggy and then I have the blue screen wich can be BAD_POOL_CALLER or NON PAGED AREA. The bugged windows sound is happening for a while, but didn't crash until the update. Now the sound gets worse sometimes and is followed by a crash. Can you please help me to figure out what is causing this error?

Here's the DMP files: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AtOztlR6v9V-bx_gzUeb1A_xFHE

I have a Toshiba on Windows BSOD starting L - with Win Home Premium bit laptop with Intel i m GB Ram GB HDD amp A BSOD on starting Windows Ti Radeon HD graphics card I am not so conversant with computers but ill try my best to give as much information as possible Anyway up until a few weeks ago i could run the laptop fine then i installed AVG antivirus and i started getting BSOD everytime i start up and immediately after the windows logo The BSOD would always blame it on the graphics card Anyway after a few days searching it seemed the antivirus was at fault so i uninstalled it using the AV uninstaller as guided although this seemed to have no effect I also installed MSE So fully frustrated i finally formatted the laptop and installed a clean copy of win bit Ultimate hoping it would erase any traces of the whatsoever damage i had done The first drivers i installed after the clean install were the Display driver but to my dismay there was still the dreaded BSOD I have downloaded drivers from the Toshiba website and other sources but whatever version or source it still ends up in BSOD I have tried to post the BSOD dump files with this thread and used safe mode to switch to standard vga mode so as i can use the laptop i would very much like to return to using windows normally and VERY VERY much appreciate any advice suggestions and time taken on this problem THANK YOU in advance

A:BSOD on starting Windows

Hello Rusel and welcome.

1) Make your way to AMD Graphics Drivers & Software

2) Uninstall the one you currently have and all the extensions

3) Download Driver Sweeper

4) Get to safe mode (without network) and search for Driver Sweeper in your Start

5) Select all ATI components and analyse them

6) Clean them, head into Windows without internet and download the driver (without Catalyst).

Hi,
When I start windows 7 home premium 64, just before the Starting Windows screen comes on some text flashes and I can't read it.
What is that and how can I see what it says, I tried some of the F1, F2 buttons but not all.
I might have tried F1 but I could have hit F2 instead so I could be wrong F8 was not a solution.

Anyone had a similiar problem and found the solution?

Let me know, new comp, not alot on the 1 terra drive. It is a HP H8-1234 AMD FX 6 Core

Thanks

Yeah, I have seen that too. I don't think it is a problem but I really don't know where it comes from.

Welcome to the WSF, Junyahh!

Please use the following diagnostic tool. It has a powerful detection mechanism, and may help us get to the cause of your issues:

Please use the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool.
Download: Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download
Select the version that applies to your system.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double-click the downloaded file to run it.

When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
At the program's console, press the Scan button.

When done, the tool produces a log, FRST.txt, in the same directory from which the tool is run (Desktop).
Please provide the FRST.txt in your reply.

The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log: Addition.txt
Also post the Addition.txt in your reply.

Also, use the Farbar Service Scanner
Download: Downloading Farbar Service Scanner

Let's get a view of all services and dependencies scoped by the tool...
Make sure the following options are checked:

Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender

Press: Scan

When done, FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.

Please provide the FSS.txt in your reply.

Thank you.

It may occur due to a failure in a refresh operation, which is used only

A:BSOD Randomly and when Starting Windows

The only dump lists a network device using the Realtek RTL8192C driver (RTL8192cu.sys). The device could be a Dlink DWA-132 Adapter. Download and install the latest driver, that should hopefully fix the problem.

Hi, a quick look at the 2 dumps and a debug of the latest one makes me thing that BitDefender may be at fault here. Uninstall it for the duration of testing, if you need to use an antivirus during this time, install MSE: Anti-Malware, Virus, Spyware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

When/if you get another BSOD, please check in C:\Windows\Minidump for the latest, copy it to the Desktop, zip and upload it.

A more general point: don't update hardware drivers from MSFT/Windows Update or via the update feature in Device Manager; while you may get a stable driver, it's likely to be more basic and older than the latest, full-featured drivers from the hardware makers. You need nVidia drivers to make the most of your card's capabilities: Drivers - GeForce

First off, Hello I am new to the forums, and thanks in advance for helping.
Occasionally upon starting up, the computer will BSOD on the starting windows screen, this happens approximately once i every three boots. If it does not blue screen the computer runs normally until I shut it off.

Things I have tried:
I ran memtestx86 through 5 passes and it did not find anything. I ran check disk. I tried removing either one of the video cards. None of these fixed the problem.

OS- Windows 7
x64
Was the original OS installed on the system
Full retail version
OS is approximately 6 months old
CPU - AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition
Video card - two XFX Radeon 4850's in crossfirex
Motherboard - ASUS M4A79T Deluxe
PSU- XFX 850w

I ran the two programs in the posting instructions and the files are attached. Thanks again in advance.

A:BSOD on the starting Windows screen

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Bugchecks 0x7E, 0x24 and 0x19 appear in the dumps.

sptd.sys, part of many virtual CD/DVD emulators, is a known cause of BSODs in Vista/Windows 7. Uninstall Daemon Tools Lite and use this tool to uninstall SPTD completely: http://duplexsecure.com/downloads

Go through the installer and select Uninstall where applicable.

Secondly, uninstall avast! with this utility: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

Replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials: www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Let us know if BSODs persist. Good luck!

Devin

Hello,

I got a bsod from a bad_pool_thread, followed by my computer trying to go into automatic repair (and then hanging) whenever I try to restart it and log into windows 8. From what I've read online, the best option to fix this seems to be to reinstall Windows 8. However, I do not have a Windows 8 DVD and I'm not sure if I can burn the OS to disc or try to start in safe mode without being able to get into Windows 8. Is there anything else I can try to figure out what's wrong with my computer? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

A:BSOD preventing windows 8 from starting

For starters:

At work we start all repairs with a set of diagnostics. Often they find problems that weren't even expected. It's a waste of time to try to fix software on a system that has hardware problems.
Please try these free diagnostics for starters: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Also, please ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

How far do you get into Automatic Repair? Can you select the Refresh/Reset options? Which have you tried (if you can get in).
Have you tried a System Repair Disc? How did you install Windows 8 the first time? If it came installed on your system you can usually get restore disks from the manufacturer.

Hey guys,

I for the last 9 hours I have been trying to get my computer to load up, but it won't work. It gets to the log in screen, then after about 15 seconds the BSOD comes up. I can only access my computer via safe mode. It won't let me run the DM Log Controller or SF Diagnostic Tool even under Run As Admin. I have an Alienware M17x, the error that came up in the BSOD was:

Machine_Check_Exception

Technical Info: *** STOP: 0x0000009C (0X0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF88003690C70, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers!
Pietro

A:BSOD while starting Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi pietronz.

Stop 0x9C is Machine Check Exception. Mostly caused by failing hardware.

But as you can run the computer in safe mode (without the load of drivers) and not in normal mode (with drivers' load), it might be a device driver that is causing the issue.

In safe mode, free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the system configuration window, with the "general" tab selected.Click the "startup" tab. Click "Disable all" > Apply > OK.Click on "services" tab.
Check the "Hide all Microsoft Services"; Click "Disable all" > Apply > OK

Accept then restart.
Then try to boot again normally. Is it failing still?

So remove the GPU. Run the computer with onboard graphics (display is the major difference between normal and safe mode). Does it boot to normal mode?

If still not, follow the broad step by step guide: Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
I am suggesting it to you because actually stop 0x9C is a variant of stop 0x124. Stop 0x124 includes stop 0x9C in its scope.

I've been having the same thing on my main pc since a recent windows update, I then wiped my pc and did a clean install of build 7077 it did the same, im going to try 7100 soon (works fine on my laptop).

Thing is vista and xp work fine and I have a strong suspicion that its the nvidia drivers windows is installing.

the boot loader is corrupted.

you need to Format that drive and install a clean version of windows.

that's what i recommend.

Hi,
I have a windows to go, Installation went without problems, i started it and check disk for error and now not running. When i started the Auto Repair, he see not a Windows 8, only a Windows 7 ( on PC). Can you help me?

A:Windows 8.1 to go, starting error

Could you elaborate on the process you used to create Windows To Go?

More than likely if the system is not bootable the creation process was not completed successfully.

Are you using a Certified USB Drive? Since this is an unaltered freshly created system it won't hurt to try the process once more.

Aomei Partition Assistant has a Windows To Go Creator Wizard to help with the process.

My friend is getting a window that comes up with a red x that has yes and no buttons, but no message. He can get in safe mode, but Norton Antivirus (with updated virus definitions) can't find the problem, and spy sweeper hasn't come up with anything either. Is there a way to fix this error? We'd really appreciate your help. Thanks.

A:Windows XP not starting up...red x error?

While in SafeMode, try disabling all of the startup programs and then rebooting into Normal mode to see if it still displays the red X.

To do that in SafeMode click on Start>Run, key in Msconfig and press enter. Under the General tab select "Selective Startup" and unselect "Load Startup Items". Click Apply OK and then reboot into Normal Mode

Let us know what happens.

Stay in Safe mode. Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Do two more things.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Boot back to normal mode. Let us know for any further BSOD.

A:[SOLVED] BSOD - crash while starting windows 7

It looks like O&O DiskImage Snapshot/Restore Helper Driver (Win32) is the culprit here - although the stack text also shows issues with eamon.sys (NOD32), tdrpm258.sys (Acronis) and ntfs.sys (hard drive). Please uninstall the O&O program to see if it stops the BSOD's.

Unfortunately, the Windows Debugging Tools aren't able to access symbols for your operating system files (in particular NTOSKRNL.EXE / NTKRNLMP.EXE / NTKRNLPA.EXE / NTKRPAMP.EXE) from the Microsoft Symbol Server - so that makes debugging them difficult if not impossible.

Please do the following (this will not affect the analysis of the current files - but it may help later files that are acquired):
- activate/validate the Windows installation at http://www.microsoft.com/genuine
- run sfc.exe /scannow to replace any problem files
- open a support incident with Microsoft to see if they can fix the missing symbols issue ( http://support.microsoft.com/ph/14019 )
- If that doesn't fix it, then wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows
- don't use "leaked"/torrent builds

So, let's try some old-fashioned detective work.....

Please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

Quote:

How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

Here's the older drivers. Please pay particular attention to any dated 2007 or earlier:

Hello there people of the internet I find myself in quite a bit of a problem Ever since April something happened that caused me (end 7 the of BSOD first when for starting Windows time installation) to get the quot Desktop Windows Manager is disabled quot problem even though it was constantly running Aero stopped working BSOD when starting Windows 7 for the first time (end of installation) and my mouse would completely disappear to the left of the screen instead of stopping at the left most pixel Yesterday I've had enough of that and seeing as uninstalling Internet Explorer and that particular update that ended with in its name did nothing to help it I decided I might quot upgrade quot my BSOD when starting Windows 7 for the first time (end of installation) existing Windows Ultimate -bit installation to the same thing thus essentially reinstalling After a very lengthy installation understandable apparently I have over a million files and the majority of my hard drive is full I have around GB free out of my PC restarted once more and this time it was about to finalize Windows by performing the quot starting windows for the first time stage quot A few seconds into the loading screen and I got this http www mediafire com convkey c b xf awn sxdky omfg jpg A BSOD with an error that doesn't mention any kind of file at all just the following error STOP x E xFFFFFFFFC xFFFFF DF CO x x That error keeps happening every time I try to boot up and it seems that safe made can't finalize the installation itself either I figured this means there is no way in I can save my current failed Windows re-installation so I thought I should just try and edit my main partition reduce it by size a bit then copy all my personal files to a new partition then slowly decrease increase partition sizes as I copy the files That could've been the end of it except I installed UBCD on a USB flash of mine and made it bootable and then I opened gParted in it to try and edit the partition except I couldn't because I got alot of cluster accounting failure error lines on it Now I'm pretty sure the hard drive itself is just fine it's the failed Windows installation that did that but my serious issue here is that I can't seem to be able to fix that windows installation and I'm not sure what else I can do to at least make my main partition 'healthy quot enough so I can freely resize it Formatting my drive at the moment is simply not an option - I have no backups of the important files I have and many of them date around years The ultimate last resort where I disconnect my hard drive connect it to another computer and copy my files that way as it seemed I could browse through my drive via UBCD just fine making it seem all the more likely it's only just about the problems the faulty installation caused isn't quite an option at this time though I will try to do that I've already tried chkdsk all other methods of repair installation via my Windows install disk I've tried all options with Bootrec exe which btw found no windows installations I'm going to try UBCD Win which apparently has alot of system utilities that may solve my problem In the meanwhile does anyone have a suggestion for me Anything I haven't tried yet Anything I missed Intel i - Quad Core standard clockrate of GHz GB of functioning RAM an Nvidia GTX that isn't fault I actually had a real faulty one replaced with this and a standard GB hard-drive that never gave me problems before

A:BSOD when starting Windows 7 for the first time (end of installation)

A stop 0x1E BSOD may be caused by various reasons.

According to Carrona.org, STOP 0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Usual causes: Device driver, hardware, System service, compatibility, Remote control programs, memory, BIOS

From your post, that first parameter is 0xC0000005, which means: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION A memory access violation occurred.

Either some driver causing/passing bad information to the memory, or a physical RAM is causing the problem.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

Not able to see your screenshot, but assuming that you cannot start the computer. Do you have access to another computer right now? If so, download Partition wizard Bootable CD (the last one in the link). Burn it in a blank CD or in a USB flash stick.

Boot into Partition Wizards GUI following this instructions. When you are on the last screen, take a camera snap of the screen and upload the snap here.

A:Windows not starting, in safe mode says its BSOD

The driver causing your BSOD is the Intel Wireless Driver. Uninstall it or upgrade it.

Hi I've been encountering constant freezes and BSODs when Windows is loading the freezes require a hard reboot while the BSODs are caused by an quot Uncorrectable Hardware Error quot This all started in December but the problem could be fixed with a single reset so I didn't pay much attention to it Nowadays it's very rare for the system to get past the Windows screen and reach the desktop where it is at risk of freezing anywhere from immediately after login to an hour after login Once it gets past the hour mark freezes no longer occur and the system will perform normally until shutdown when the problem arises next boot I've tried re-seating hardware components running chkdsk selecting optimised defaults via the BIOS none to any avail I should also mention the freezes can occur in any Windows mode such as booting into safe mode recovery mode etc Below I have attached the output of the SF diagnostic BSOD/Freezes screen Starting at Windows tool BSOD/Freezes at Starting Windows screen any feedback as to tracing where the problem lies would be much appreciated BSOD/Freezes at Starting Windows screen Thank you

A:BSOD at early stage of starting windows

Did you run the memory tests when the system was cold?
How about once it'd warmed up?

This is most likely a hardware problem - but it isn't certain.
Please run Driver Verifier according to these directions:

Quote:

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:

Code:
Delete these registry keys (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel
More info on this at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=244617&sd=RMVP

While waiting for further input on the latest Driver Verifier memory dumps, please try these free hardware diagnostics:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html (read the details at the link)
http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: http://www.carrona.org/malware.html (read the details at the link)

Then, if the above tests pass, I'd try these free stress tests:

- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).

Hello,

If you are overclocking your system, please return all overclocked components to their stock speeds. If the BSOD's are found not to be caused by the overclock, you can re-overclock the components once we have finished the diagnostics

Looking at your dumps showed one clear trend, a HDD issue. BACK ALL YOUR DATA UP TO ANOTHER DRIVE NOW!!!
Check your HDD for errors using Seatools and chkdsk.. Download and create a bootable version of the Seatools for DOS program as described here. Run the long test. For check disk, follow this tutorial: Disk Check Make sure both boxes are checked to attempt to fix errors and recover bad sectors.

I have also noticed that you do not have an anti-virus product installed on your PC. Please install Microsoft Security Essentials and scan your PC. Then install and scan your computer with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. DO NOT START THE FREE TRIAL. This will remove any viruses you may have caught.
Problem Devices

Code:
Unknown Device USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\7&89239E1&0&1 43
Ethernet Controller PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1073&SUBSYS_035D1025&REV_C0\4&1A6BEF86&0&00E0 The drivers for this device are not installed.
An unknown device could indicate a malware infection. Scan with Malwarebytes as described in previous paragraph. Also, disconnect all USB devices from your system except for your keyboard and mouse. This could include USB Hubs or external HDD's. They could be causing issues. For the ethernet drivers, they need to be installed. Install the ethernet drivers from Acer for you PC. Download.

Lets see how this goes before I give any more advice.

Hi,
I am getting a message on start-up saying the computer has recovered from a serious error (event?) I send the error report as requested and then a window starts to open to Microsoft but doesn't finish opening. After about 5 minutes I close the window and continue doing whatever I was doing.

When I shut the computer down I am (~50% of the time) getting a program not responding message telling me the computer is shutting down something called "...centinel VXD". I can't find a program in add/remove by that name.

Is this some kind of bug?
Thanks,
Susan

A:Windows Explorer error when starting

Hello and wellcome to TSF.

Apologies for the late response. First of all, you appear to have more than one antivirus application installed, i.e. Sophos and McAfee. Even if one is disabled, it would still cause problems. Please uninstall one of them via Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. I don't know about Sophos, but McAfee has a Removal Tool.

Also, IE8 is still a beta product. Beta software is often problematic.

If you still require assistance, we would like to see the latest state of your system. So, please post a fresh DDS log as it has been a while since you posted, and we'll take it from there.

Hello everybody. I was recently having a problem with the Antimalware Doctor virus, but I believe I've gotten that problem sorted out. I updated all of my antispyware programs, ran the scans, etc. Now, I've got myself a new dilemma. I'm getting an error message everytime I start Windows after I shut down or restart my computer. Every time I start my PC (Dell Inspiron One, Windows 7) I get the following error message:

"There was a problem starting msioym32.dll. The specified module could not be found".

I've tried searching for msioym32.dll on google but nothing comes up and I have no idea what it refers to. I've also tried searching for it in my PC with no results. It's been like this for the past few months and happens every single time I start my PC. I don't know what software component I must have accidentally deleted to get this message.

Any ideas on how I can get rid of this error message?

Did by any chance the BSOD started when installing AVG?
Please boot into Safe Mode and uninstall AVG. You can use Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

This is Malware if I'm not mistaking.

Code:
SearchProtection "c:\users\garrett white\appdata\roaming\search protection\searchprotection.exe
Scanning for infections is not a bad idea.
Download TDSS-Killer and scan for rootkits.
Download Kaspersky Rescue CD and scan for other types of infections. (a how-to tutorial)
Download AdwCleaner - Download from Bleeping Computer.
Download Malwarebytes and DON'T activate the trail (uncheck the box at the end of the installation)
Follow this tutorial on how to use the SFC/ SCANNOW tool in Windows.
(*Kaspersky Rescue CD from a USB thumbdrive)

Post back with the results.

My computer has been acting weird lately. I can not get it to go past "windows is starting" screen. When it reaches this screen 1/3 the time it will just freeze on it and I will have to reset my computer and 2/3 of the time my monitor loses signal and will have to reset again. My monitor losing signal from the computer is the main problem I believe. I can log into safe mode fine no matter what settings I am using. Also I can log into windows normally if I have my graphics card driver uninstalled. As soon as I install the gtx 570 driver this problem occurs again. I have tried installing previous versions of the driver and that did not fix the problem.

I attached a minidump. Please advise, thanks.
