Asus U56E laptop randomly reboots - except when fireworks from winning spider solitare is running

Q: Asus U56E laptop randomly reboots - except when fireworks from winning spider solitare is running

I have an ASUS U56E laptop that randomly reboots when running anything, minesweeper, spider solitare, IE explorer. No bluescreen appears, the screen goes black and the machine reboots. If you win a spider solitare game and leave the fireworks running in background it does not reboot, but if you leave the fireworks running for a while as soon as you kill the fireworks it shuts down immediately. I have run temperate checks, memory check, full disk scan, and reloaded the machine from initial disks. I even brought it to Best Buy and their geek squad told me they tested it thouroughly by running a video streamer on it and it didn't shut down after 4 hours so there is nothing wrong with it. I don't know where to go from here and appreciate any suggestions.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

"reloaded the machine from initial disks" Did you do a clean install of Windows and reapply all the Windows Updates?

Yep, from the little bit of reading I did, it seems like the issue could be a power issue at the motherboard, but we're not even close to saying it's time to return the laptop for service yet. I wanted to first wanted to see if the computer was overheating. If the computer turns off and then when immediately turned back on it won't stay on for more than a minute or so then it could be overheating. There could be memory or even hard drive issues, but the OP seems to have eliminated that with their first post.

I have a Windows ME. I love Spider Solitare but the dealing is VERY slow. Every once in awhile (Blue Moon) it deals the cards EXTREMELY fast! I would like it to deal fast ALL the time. What can I do? Thank you

A:Spider Solitare dealing

I checked it out and there isn't any options to configure the speed...

What I suggets is to turn off the animation

Game > Options > Uncheck 'Animate when dealing cards'

If that doesn't work it may be the color density/resolution on your video card that will cause the speed that the cards move to change. higher resolution/color density=slower.

Hello. You know that fireworks animation that plays when you win at Spider Solitaire on Windows XP? I would like to save that to my computer. I know it is an .avi file which is located inside either some .exe or .dll file. Yes, I used ResHacker to look inside system32/spider.exe but couldn't find anything. Could anybody point me in the right direction as to where that fireworks animation is at? Thanks.

A:Windows XP Spider Solitaire fireworks animation...

I would like to have that myself. I have one quite colorful though.
Are you sure it is an AVI file? I would think it would be a Gif. You can use the wild card *.gif and find all the gifs on the computer. I entered *.AVI and only four were found. AVI as far as I know is the extension for a video file..

I purchased the Asus u56e laptop from an individual. It appeared to be working fine when I tested it. While using it, I discovered several problems with it: 1) The volume keys don't work, 2) While on the internet different pages pop up other than the requested one. Other problems I can't remember right off hand.

I wanted to purchase a recovery disk but am unable to. Is there a way to fix the computer and keep the original programs that came with it?

Hi,
Specs:
Windows 7 Pro x64
ASUS M4A89GTD/PRO USB3.0
AMD PhenomII x6 1075T
2x WD Caviar blue 250Gg HDD in RAID 0
EVGA NVIDIA GTS 450
8Gb DDR3 1600 G.Skill Ripjaws (4x 2Gb sticks)

My ASUS motherboard will just reboot, or freeze. It happens during BIOS, Booting/installing windows, and when booted from a Linux live flashdrive. I updated the BIOS, it still has the problem. I had my RAM replaced when the old sticks when out back in December, I've been having problems since then. Is it possible the old RAM could have screwed over my motherboard too?
I have heard some say it helps to take the ASUS Q-shield off because it causes a short on the motherboard, but I tried that too.

The board is still covered under warranty, I should be able to get a replacement if it turns out the board is bad.

Any suggestions?

A:ASUS M4A89GTD/PRO USB3.0 motherboard reboots randomly.

Sorry you are having problems.

Do you get any diagnostic beeps when powering up?

Did you reset bios to factory default?

What if you remove the motherboard from the case and boot up?

When you booted up with Linux, did you remove SATA cables to HD and optical drive?

Is your power supply sufficient?

Have you tried updating the drivers by going to the manufacture of your computer's website and downloading the drivers for your computer make and model?

Go to device manager by going to Start type in devmgmt.msc hit enter. Is there and read or yellow marks present? If so go to the manufacture of your computer website enter your service tag number or look up the model number including Windows 7 32bit or 64bit and download the appropriate drivers.

A:Asus N71JQ laptop freezing up requiring multiple reboots

Your BIOS dates from 2009. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Also, please understand that a BIOS this old probably isn't very compatible with Win8 or 8.1. There are things we can do to make it more reliable - but there may come a point where you just have to accept that it's not going to work right. It may be advisable to downgrade to Win7 or earlier in order to completely eliminate the problems.

I scanned through the reports and haven't found anything significant.
Let's try this report:
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

I have a lenovo u400, my processor is an i5 and it run around 50 C when doing normal browsing. runs at 60-70 C when watching movies or light gaming. My Tj. max is 100 C, never seen it pass 75 C. I just bought my laptop a month ago, so I don't know what's the deal. When I touch the bottom of my laptop is feels pretty cool.

I have ran malwarebytes and MSE and have not found anything. I have also ran a memory test and everything looks fine.

It usually happens when I'm watching a video from a website. My computer just reboots, no bsod or error message. I don't know what to do next. What can I do to troubleshoot this further?

A:Laptop reboots randomly, no bsod or error message

Hi Berkguy

Based on your logs...

Most of shutdown or reboots are caused by your graphics driver... ATI Catalyst.....

Quote:
The server {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4ADC-AA9D-2FE65525666E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

which is related to

ATI EEU failed to post message to CCC

Suggest you update your ATI drivers from the manufactures website...

and a few are related to system getting really high temperature.

Quote:

Again since you said .... the laptop looks cool...... and based on the above errors.... i am sure these shutdown were also due the drivers putting the graphics at high temps.....

I have an ASUS laptop that I beleive has become infected with a virus that is randomly closing down the laptop amp immediately re-booting it The laptop re-boots fine bar it tries to firstly locate a spyhunter fix rather than Laptop ASUS down shuts randomly the option of XP or Vista I can manually locate ASUS Laptop randomly shuts down the XP option amp then log in OK until the problem recurs The laptop works OK for indeterminate periods of time amp tends to shut down when opening or closing down a programme or a file It is for that reason I do not think I have a power supply issue or temperature issue which seem to be common problems I have advanced system care which suggests the laptop is in A condition amp when it is on it works absolutely fine I am suspicious of the spyhunter fix which I think must be rogue I am also unable to access task manager A longer term problem is I cannot run the laptop in safe mode It gets so far then just gets stuck I accept that any help on here may be limited due to this particular problem Most solutions seem to require safe mode From googling my problem a suggestion of SD fix seems to fit the bill except that I have been unable to download this from ANY link Again I am suspicious that this is part of something sinister going on rather than mere coincidence Any help at all would be appreciated Thanks in advance

um so basically I was playing the game called roblox I had a couple of IE pages open in the background and steam so nothing too memory hungry anyway I had been playing roblox for a while when suddenly it started lagging really badly for like seconds randomly My just asus) (win7 laptop turned off after which my computer calmly powered off I say powered off because it didn't tell me it was shutting down or give me a virus alert or a error or a warning or anything it just suddenly powered off not like it ran out of power because I don't have a My laptop just turned off randomly (win7 asus) battery in it I just have it plugged into the power but more like it just chose to power off for some reason why did this happen also I have another question why does windows task manager always tell me Even when I have just turned the laptop on that my memory is using like somewhere between GB and to about GB after its been running things for hours even if I close everything

A:My laptop just turned off randomly (win7 asus)

Please do the steps following in the following tutorial in case it was malware, it should not have lagged before turning off if it is a hardware crash: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free Please disable auto quarantine in case Malwarebytes finds any false positives. https://www.malwarebytes.org/support...dSettings.html If anything that seems to not be malware or potentially unneeded programs are found, such as system files or programs you think you need and use, please post a screenshot of the list of detected items: Screenshot with Paint, Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums Also, in case it is a hard drive close to failing, you should back up your important files right away after running the malware scan, NOT before because it may infect the USB storage device too.

Hi I have an Asus U E laptop About a week ago it had the Cryptowall virus in it and of course all the information was encrypted so I dumped it I re-installed windows from the recovery drive on it From that point I went in and updated all the drivers installed what I needed to to run my car software but just before that it shut down once After it was all installed it kept shutting down roughly every - min I thought maybe due to heat right Tore the laptop down cleaned everything found out that the laptop was running normal temps just the fan is a little loose and its going to need a new one soon Put it all back together windows randomly Laptop install restarting keeps after Asus 7 and same issue Played with the drivers made sure everything was all up to date chkdsk wasn't coming up with anything It wouldn't enter the windows memory diagnostic still won't with new install lots of errors and warnings in the event viewer I just did another install of windows and its doing the same thing Roughly shutting off every min When I turn it back on it says Windows Error Recovery But in safe mode it seems to run a lot longer I'm still testing it right now with the new install but last time I went over hrs and it Asus Laptop keeps randomly restarting after windows 7 install didn't turn off When I went to install windows again I tried to use an install disk which that didn't work I also tryed to use my other computers recovery disk which of course that didn't work either When I tested the hard drive for failure it passed I've downloaded all the programs for crash reports but there is nothing I've disabled all the start up programs still turns off I'm at a loss and need some guidance Added note The computer stayed on perfectly before the install of windows after the virus Right after I reinstalled I have not been able to keep the computer on for over an hour on a normal boot Usually its - min for it to shut off and re-start again quot Windows did not shut down properly quot Thanks

A:Asus Laptop keeps randomly restarting after windows 7 install

New update. Registry files corrupted. Another restore. while restoring its doing the shut down errors. canceled the restore. Cannot boot in safe mode, cannot keep running long enough to finish the restore......AHHHH!

EDIT:crashed in restore-now I have a base windows version.....not many drivers at all. Going to see if it will do its random shutdown like this before I try to re-install(still re-starts). This was from a USB install that I finally got to work a tiny bit.

Hello,

I just built a computer yesterday using a Coolermaster Haf 912 case, Gigabyte 880GM-D2H motherboard, AMD Phenom II quad core 955, Crucial Ballistix 4 Gb, WD 1 Tb Scorpio blue hard drive, Cool max 700 watt PSU, DVD drive and Windows 7.

It keeps rebooting and or blue screening. I can't even have it on long enough to download updates and try to update drivers before it crashes. I checked the bios temps and they are 34c and 41c. DDR3 memory is running at 1.5v. I tried reinstalling 7 and the same issues.

It will stay on in safe mode and I also got a Ultimate Boot CD 2010 from a friend and it stays on when I ran that. I don't know too much about the disc so I ran a memtest and it passed. I ran a quick test on the WD diagnostic and that was ok.

Thanks for help in advance.

I recently reinstalled Windows, updated everything and today I started getting this BSOD that says something about "Page Fault in Nonpaged Area" or something along those lines. There's no rhyme or reason (that I can tell) so it's really aggravating.

I'm attaching the zip file that the instruction say you need (I followed option 2). Hopefully I did it right.

How to resolve DPC_watchdog_violation error? My laptop shutdown randomly, leaving all unsaved stuff. A blue-screen with this error appears. I am not a techy-savy but I really need help to resolve this. Thanks!

A:asus laptop randomly shuts down with a blue screen and error message

You'd best repost this issue in the BSOD section here. What you're experiencing is called Blue Screen Of Death, or BSOD. I have had the same issue before, I have a feeling it was to do with driver conflicts.

Hello, Mommymd. Before we begin, you should save these instructions in Notepad to your desktop, or print them, for easy reference. Much of our fix will be done in Safe mode, and you will be unable to access this thread at that time. If you have questions at any point, or are unsure of the instructions, feel free to post here and ask for clarification before proceeding. Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As AdministratorClick on the Scan button.AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete. After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report). The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool. Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message. In your next reply, please include the following:Adwcleaner scan logJRT logThank you.

Asus problem The computer is an Asus laptop using Windows operating system My granddaughter had it bought her for this Christmas At first she had a problem with an laptop slow Asus running upside down camera To overcome this she downloaded a programme called Uniblue Registry booster I have no idea why Obviously this did nothing to solve the problem I took the laptop to a local computer tech who has been reliable in the past and he quickly resolved the camera issue A couple of days ago her computer started to go very slow and she was unble to open any programmes My grandson tried to resolve the problem including the removal of Uniblue This did not resolve anything She then brought the laptop round to me I suspected a virus Asus laptop running slow at Asus laptop running slow first and went into Safe Mode things seem to be working properely and normally I carried out an antivirus scan using Avast No virus was detected I downloaded Malware bites and did a full scan and nothing was detected I went back into normal working and things seem to have improved slightly for a bit and then back to the difficulties Then as I strted to try different things sometimes using normal start up and sometimes Safe Mode In normal Start up it seemes to be getting worse In Safe Mode I went back to an earlier date and things seem to improve slightly but there was obviously still something wrong In Normal Mode I occasionally got the following pop up messages Load library python dll failed And C Program Files Uniblue Registry Booster Python DLL I decided to remove Uniblue In order to do this I had to download it again and reinstall before successfully uninstalling This seemed to resolve the problem at first and the laptop appeared to be working normally Following this there were lots of Windows updates because of the Restore Point The computer now is taking ages to shut down and then restart and I am getting the message Preparing to configure Windows Do not turn off the computer It has now changed to Configuring Widows updates complete Do not turn off your computer This configuring has now been going on since about this morning Aitch nbsp

Bought my new ASUS laptop from Best Buy a week ago. Finally having a chance to get started with it. They gave some good advice, to create a back up disk(s) in case any issues arise. This means I will have to get a USB-operated external DVD drive. Not really a problem, I mean I don't mind doing that. But is it not possible to create the same backup disk on a flash drive? Please advise, and many thanks.

Check the hardware requirements for the game (especially the graphics card requirements) against the hardware installed in your laptop. It may not be powerful enough for that game. That's all I can say because you haven't said what model laptop it is or what error messages it shows.Laptops are not ideal for the latest games anyway unless it's a purpose-built gaming model.Just because a game is compatible with Windows 10 doesn't necessarily mean it's also compatible with your hardware.message edited by phil22

My daughter has a 3 months old ASUSx55c-si30202m tht is runnign windows 8.  It was exhibiting some odd issues, so we did a factory reset which seems to have aleviated the issue for the most part but it still doesrandomly freeze, it seems to freeze now, only when she is playing world of warcraft.  I suspect a video driver issue.  Whe  she installed WOW the client instructed her to download and isntall the newest VIA driver ( Intel HD 3000 graphics).
I did a little cheicng and it seems that ASUS installs their own video driver and changin it may create issues.

Is there and error log that can be examoned to determone what is causing the freezes?

A:Random Freezes with ASUS laptop running windows 8

Hi

Here is the official minimum system requirement to play World of Warcraft  :

https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/minimum-system-requirements-for-world-of-warcraft

According to the developers you should have at least 256MB NVidia or ATI card to play it on bare minimum frame rate.  NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT,ATI™ Radeon HD 4830 (512 MB) or better is required to play it with good frame rate.

Intel HD 3000 is no ware near to the minimum requirement. I am sorry to say it but i don't think you can play WOW in that laptop.

Laptop is a Toshiba Qosmio X875-7190, bought it in march of this year. Looked up the reviews, saw it was a good rig for what I wanted. But since May it has been randomly freezing and I have to hard reset it to be able to use it again. Some what of an issue when I'm playing a game or actually doing work on it. Toshiba customer support is trash they aren't helpful. I even sent it in already once with this issue and they said nothing was wrong and they factory reset it. I already had done that and the issue still happens. I'm about ready to just toss this thing out the window and waste another 1500$ on a new rig..... again. But I really don't want to do that, so could someone help me with trying to figure this out?

I would send it to them again! Don't let them get away with it if you think its their fault.

Anyway, so we can get a better look at what you're running, please post back with a Speccy report:
Please download Speccy System Information Tool and save it to somewhere convenient such as your desktop.
Close any programs that may be running including your browser and double click Speccy.exe to run the tool.
Watch out for any offers to install other programs such as google chrome and untick the box(es) if you don't want them.
Speccy will very quickly scan your pc and create a report.
Top left of screen click file and select Publish Snapshot...
Click Yes to proceed.
Copy the URL to your clipboard and paste it into your next reply.

I just got a new laptop on the 1st of this month. It is an ASUS G2S. Today as it was sitting idle, the screen became corrupted somehow. While at the desktop screen it appears as if many horizontal lines of the desktop image are misplaced. When I go to open a window, it gets much worse with shaking and scrambled images. It is running Vista Home Premium. I am deploying overseas in a couple of days and need to put together a solution quickly. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:BSOD on new ASUS U47A Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premuim

Welcome
Your BSODs are cause by this driver.
I normally tell members to update the driver by going to the manufacturers website. But I will not tell you that. Your computer is new, I would contact the company. If you start updating drivers etc you could void your warranty. I gave the facts, now the choice is yours.

Dear readers as the title states my laptop randomly shut down twice so far when the battery was inside but the AC power cable was in the computer The battery icon bottom left indicated that it was charged running on AC power on High Performance and when I was in a game it randomly went off Rebooted quicker than (when when randomly power is down running shuts inside) AC on battery Laptop usual skipping some of the startup processes it usually does when I manually turn it off The first time it did this the battery was Laptop randomly shuts down when running on AC power (when battery is inside) very hot even though it was running on AC This time it is not it is barely warm Another thing to mention is that both times after being back in desktop the battery would be quot available plugged in charging quot but it would not charge it stays at until I remove it and put it back in I am having a problem while playing games as well which we are discussing in another thread here http forums techguy org games -significant-fps-drops html And here is my original thread http forums techguy org games -large-fps-performance-drop-stuttering html post Hope someone has some insight on the matter Kindest regards Vadim Zinkovski nbsp

A:Laptop randomly shuts down when running on AC power (when battery is inside)

Hi,
Some batteries can't take the electricity constantly flowing threw them i suggest you take the battery out when you plug it in the wall and put it in when your on the go. You battery does work still when you unplugg it from the wall right? And im guessing when your battery starts to fail it switches to "power saver" mode instead of "high performance" mode.
so take out the battery and plug it into the wall, store the battery until well until you need it. Hope this helps.
Also could be the result of a faulty battery..How long have you had your laptop?

Here are the specs windows xp pro pc chips p23g mb, 2 gb ram 80gb hd and a pny GeForce graphics card. I also have a geovision surveillance system installed and a 600w power supply. every thing works perfectly except for this reboot problem. any and all sugestions will be appreciated.

A:Reboots randomly

have you tried looking in the Event Viewer? wait for it to reboot, then log in again. Go to:
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer.

Look for any errors in the sections on the left. Im no PC expert, but this may help in solving the problem. There is normaly a log of errors that cause a reboot somewhere in the event viewer.

I'd be loading a multiplayer game and it would reboot on its own. I know its not a software problem- I had my hard drive re-formatted and Win XP reinstalled, and the problem remained. I switched the power supply to a higher wattage and the problem persisted. I brought my PC into a computer shop to anaylize the hardware. They said that the computer ran fine at their shop. Also, that all of the hardware was fine and there was no overheating issues. As a last resort, I switched to a better surge protector and the problem remained. Hello techsupportforum
I am new here , just joined today , because i am having a serious problem

PROBLEM :
My OS is windows 7 ultimate .. 32 bit ..1 week ago my pc started restarting for no reason ... i thought it was some power failure at the beginning .. then after 2 days the same thing happened ..after that it started happening frequently ..

The pc restarts randomly at many places ... namely
1) first boot screen itself
2) before windows welcome screen
3) anywhere after boot ..

At first the reboot happened after 5 mins of boot ... but lately it has been mostly happening instantly after boot ...

Hi. I just put together a computer, a TigerDirect barebones, and everything seems ok. However, I can't get through the Windows XP installation, because it reboots every so often (not when the setup makes it reboot). What does this sound like? Spotty PSU? CPU cooling issues? The CPU is a Celeron 340. On the BIOS screen, the CPU temp goes as high as 53 degrees Celsius, and stays there. IDK what's a normal CPU temp, so please let me know ASAP!!!

Hey! I posted here a while ago when I was building a pc for my mom. It rebooted to often to even install windows. I got a new power supply, and it worked. But I just found out that it's been rebooting at least once a day, my mom just hasn't told me. I have 2 or 3 days to return the power supply, so what do you think? I already upgraded drivers, and its a 430W Mad Dog power supply. All its powering is a Pentium 840, abit mobo, dvd drive, hd, and floppy. Should I return it to circuit city and get the next up (550W for $40 more) or do you think 430 is enough, and its a problem w/ something else. Note that it only seems to reboot when in windows, so either its a software problem, or its a hardware problem that doesnt occur for a while (time it takes to boot windows)

My XP Pro randomly reboots itself. The only other thing possibly wrong I have noticed is it takes an age to shutdown when I shut it down the proper way. The reboots are becoming more frequent. It's not a virus/trojan as as have thoroughly scanned my machine. I installed xp over the top of win 98 about six weeks ago and all was fine for a few weeks. I'm all updated with service packs etc. Could it be anything to do with xp's "services" as I have disabled a few on recommendation ?

hi,
i am using P6-2030IN, 64 bit, Intel(R)Pentium(R) CPU G620 @ 2.60GHz, 2GB RAM from HP with Win 7 Home basic OS. Last month, it was upgraded to WIN 7 Ultimate. Last week, Ubuntu 12.04 was installed.

Past 3 days, pc reboots randomly or sometimes after 1 hr or 15 min. i have tried the following methods. i was frustrated because it happens at peak hours of my workload.

while working with ubunut, i didn't faced the same problem in WIN 7.

i have tried the following methods.
1. My Computer, Properties, Advanced settings, Advanced Tab, Start & recovery and uncheck the auto restart option.
2. regedit, system, control001, control, crashcontrol, autorestart and changed the value from 1 to 0
3. at the time booting pressed F8, advanced boot options, disable autoreboot option.

nothing worked out.
Can anyone help me to solve this mind breaking problem.

benjamin

Help! - The basics:
HD crashed - replaced with new - installed XP had a problem in install with the mouse and keyboard not working - plugged them into usb ports - problem solved.
I updated all drivers (including chipset)

Installation complete now I have random crashes (mostly reboot).
Although sometimes the screen freezes with a sound loop.
It happens a lot when surfing the web. Sometimes in my favorite online game, and always shortly into the new Hitman game (contracts I think).
It even crashed once in windows using explore

No conflicts or problems in device manager.

I tried removing the sound card and using the onboard sound card - same problem.

Could it be because I have the keyboard and mouse on usb?

Is my mother board toast?

How do I track down the problem?

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

You are indeed correct, a bugcheck code of 9C is related to faulty hardware.

Since you have already tried a good stick of ram with no improvement, I believe the problem is either psu or mobo related. Hopefully, another psu will sort it.

Good luck.

Hi all,
I have a PC that reboots when there is activity required of it. It always reboots when asked to install windows updates.
The event viewer gives ID: 7000 and the source is Service Control Manager. Explanation is " The exusb.sys IME control unit (GPUD) service failed to start due to the following error: The service cannot be started either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

This workstation has been in use for over a year with no problem and now reboots whenever there is a demand on its resources.

I replaced the onboard video with a AGP 128MB card and no change. This is a business system and I hesitate to reformat because of all the networking and business applications needed to reinstall.

A:computer randomly reboots

In Windows XP, the default setting is for the computer to reboot automatically when a fatal error occurs. An alternative is to turn off the automatic reboot feature so you can actually see the error code/STOP Message (which is also known as the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD)).

To change the recovery settings and Disable Automatic Rebooting, right-click on My Computer and select Properties > Advanced tab. Under "Startup and Recovery", click on the "Settings" button and go to "System failure". Make sure that "Write an event to the system log" is checked and that "Automatically restart" is unchecked. Click "OK" and reboot for the changes to take effect.

This will not cure your problem but instead of crashing and restarting you will get a blue diagnostic screen with information displayed that will allow you to better trace your problem. Next time your computer crashes copy down the entire error message (including all the numbers) and post it back here.

I have just recently built 2 new computers, same exact components about a month ago. One of them works great, the other restarts randomly usually when installing something. The windows error files are mini.dmp and sysdata.xml and when I send the error report it tells me thats its a hardware error with either : CPU, Motherboard, RAM, or Power Supply. I have replaced all and still have the random restarts. I have run memtest86 with no errors. I've recently taken it somewhere to do a hardware diagnostics test and they've had it on for 5 days without any restarts under 100% stress loads. The only differences I can think of is that they have it connected to a different monitor and its via VGA as opposed to digital like I've had it every time. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks

Your CPU and chipset temps seem fine at idle, but how about your VGA temps at full load? That is my guess. Try running with your case open, and a fan blowing on it for a while, and see if that solves your problem as a test. Me thinks this is where your troubles lie.....

A:Computer randomly reboots

Unexpected restarts will not log much data that is useful unfortunately, unless the restart is accompanied by a Blue Screen.

What you can try is

1. Update all your motherboard drivers

2. Run hardware diagnostics if your PC maker has them

I have a Pentium computer Sony PCV-RX which was kind-of fried during a lightning storm one time I posted a thread about it here I changed the motherboard with a refurbished one can t find a new one anywhere and it seemed to be fine reboots Computer randomly for a while But then sometimes it randomly reboots I then changed the RAM thinking that it might be the RAM Besides the original RAM has a latency of and about a year ago I added a new RAM which has a different latency So I bought a set of two RAMs of mb with latencies Corsair ddr mhz pc I didn t even use the previous one that is also thinking that it Computer reboots randomly may be screwed up also during the storm So on the mobo the RAMs are completely brand new Apparently changing the RAMs didn t help either So I then use the recovery disc and wipe out everything I used a gb hd instead of the original gb hd devided into two partition gb for system and the rest for data Still same problem Thinking that maybe the computer did not like the gb I read that an older bios plus XP-non-SP would not recognize hd larger than gb I use the original gb hd instead Same problem Thinking that the problem maybe because I update the XP to SP I tried not updating to SP Same thing So what now buy a new P ghz chip It s about - Here s one It can t be the video card right Because the original system uses onboard GPU I added a video card about a year ago ASUS N nVidia GeForce agp x mb ddr It s compatible with x agp The mobo has x agp slot Thanks so much and happy new year to all of you Leo nbsp

as the title says, my system reboots itself randomly and I cant figure out why.

heres what I've done sofar:

ran a burn in test for 24 hours testing all hardware and it passed.
formatted the harddrive and reinstalled windows with all updates ect.
motherboard drivers are current, all other drivers are current also
even though formatted, I ran spyware and virus scans

what now??

I even have a APC backup/surge protector on the system, and its been running on that since first plugged in.

the system is also watercooled, but not overclocked and has 10 case fans total.

if anyone can help I would appreciate it!

A:computer reboots randomly

goto
control panel>
system>
advanced tab>
startup and recovery - settings>
under the title - system failure
untick - automatically restart

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320299

now when it crashes - it willnot restart and the blue screen should stay on the screen
post the info on the screen
it will give the errorcodes and a filename, if caused by a driver.

Also have you tried reseating all the modules - did the 24hr test include memory tests
