Random Crash, Freeze, Black Screen or BSOD shortly after startup.

Q: Random Crash, Freeze, Black Screen or BSOD shortly after startup.

This is a BSOD or startup. Black Crash, Screen shortly Random after Freeze, strange problem my desktop has had for a fairly long time Usually my computer will work fine start up with no problems for several days Random Crash, Freeze, Black Screen or BSOD shortly after startup. in a row And then for reasons I don't know it sometimes will start crashing Usually the screen goes completely black and the computer completely non-responsive and it must be hard reset to get any response at all out of it A few times I've actually seen a brief BSOD but too brief to actually read it Random Crash, Freeze, Black Screen or BSOD shortly after startup. and see what Random Crash, Freeze, Black Screen or BSOD shortly after startup. is happening Sometimes the screen will just freeze where it is with the last bit of audio that was playing repeating nonstop The strangest thing about these crashes is they only happen a little bit after or during startup if the computer is fine for minutes I know it'll be fine until the next time it's turned off It has on a few occasions come up with a screen telling me that the CMOS is corrupted I've had startup repair run and tried some kind of hard drive diagnostic tool the startup repair couldn't find a problem and the tool said the hard drive was good I've seen it crash this way in the middle of the bios boot during login in safe mode pretty much any time during the first half-hour to hour of the computer being on But never afterward I ran the diagnostic tool the results are attached to this post Any help at all would be appreciated In case it has any effect on anything my computer used to be a Vista and a complimentary upgrade was used to make it windows

Preferred Solution: Random Crash, Freeze, Black Screen or BSOD shortly after startup.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Xindaris.

It appears that you have tow antivirus programs installed? MSE and Avira?
Uninstall Avira. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Uninstall MagicISO. It may cause the BSODs as you explained.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.
How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Let us know the results. And, is it a factory installed windows?

Hi All First post here but have visited often over the years to learn about various subjects Lately I've been frequenting the many helpful BSOD pages thanks to the problem that is the subject of this thread I'm hoping you wizards can help me pinpoint the offending driver or hardware before I resort to random uninstalls and eventually a clean Windows reinstall as more extreme procedures I know what follows is a read but it's hopefully well-written so please bear with First the System Specs Specs are in my profile BSOD, Random Minutes After Screen Black Startup Freeze, or Basically this is a heavily upgraded OEM the HP m p HP Pavilion Elite m p Desktop PC Product Specifications HP Pavilion Elite m p Desktop PC HP Support The current configuration ran smoothly for over six months before the problem appeared With the exception of the graphics card more on that below Random BSOD, Freeze, or Black Screen Minutes After Startup the most recent changes were the addition of the two HDDs at the beginning of this year when migrating to SSD Before that the machine was completely problem free going back to its inception in she's an old girl I know The Mystery Currently the system is at a point where it always freezes throws a random BSOD or the screen goes black monitor goes to sleep within minutes after startup It almost always happens within five minutes after the desktop loads but occasionally up to ten minutes This always requires a forced restart with a chance of one of these problems occurring again following reboot for an unpredictable number of times What began as typically a single occurrence has since become on average two crash reboot cycles The record was four Once the system is running for at least five minutes the mystical quot five minute rule quot as I've come to know it it works fine I can leave it idle or punish it with maxed out ultimate settings in Skyrim for hours on end and it won't so much as hiccup But after being shut down or in sleep mode for at least some hours the startup problem always resurfaces in whichever flavors and quantities it decides to take In all it's a tolerable nuisance but one that's surely the manifestation of one or more drivers or hardware gone wild Like the worst computing problems this one arose seemingly out of the ether and has been in a downward spiral since The variety and frequency of crashes seems to have gotten progressively worse over the more than two months since the problem first appeared As far as I can tell it all started with a sudden freeze on July that had me thinking my wireless mouse and keyboard batteries needed replacing Weeks went by with no problems until the black screens started occurring Still these were intermittent and occurred days or weeks apart Before long the first BSODs started appearing These were also intermittent at first As time went on it got to the point at which things are now For basically the entire month of September there have been one or more BSODs almost daily uploaded for your debugging pleasure but in any case always one or more of the three types of crashes freeze BSOD or black screen shortly after startup Today's session went like this Freeze three minutes in forced-reboot BSOD some minutes in forced reboot different BSOD seven minutes in broke the quot five minute rule quot I know forced reboot up and running six hours and counting Each day the experience is different last night was a black screen and BSOD but the one constant is the crash es almost always occur within five occasionally ten minutes post startup Or at least that was the case until yesterday when the system threw a curve ball with a BSOD twenty minutes in I pray this isn't a new symptom So far the two startups since then have remained true to the five five to ten minute rule The Detective Work Needless to say I have tried everything I can think of in this harrowing driver hardware whodunit I started off investigating the basics There were no manual changes to software drivers or ... A:Random BSOD, Freeze, or Black Screen Minutes After Startup

You have described exactly my problem, dude!
If the crash (not necesarilly the BSOD) came in a middle of skype or VOIP conversation, can you still talk/hear for 30 sec - 1 minute, like me? With black screen on, in stand by. I can.
I hardly wait to find the solution for our problem...

Maybe is usefull to check this post too: BSOD minutes after desktop starts

Hello TechSupport people I come to you with an issue that I cannot find ANY information on across the internet Things to know -I am using an Acer Aspire M - GB storage space - GB RAM -I use an NVIDIA GeForce GT graphics card -Both disc drives are nearly full -I have recently installed two video editing programmes day trials -For about half a year my computer has had minor glitches when playing Youtube videos Black on Startup Random Crash after Screen or music So I was on the surfing the internet and my monitor suddenly goes completely black The fan was still going and the lights were still on but I Black Screen on Startup after Random Crash couldn't interract with the computer because I had no display whatsoever About an hour beforehand I had been converting some HD video files which was probably using up a lot of memory and I had been Skyping too The computer had been running a lot more slowly over the past couple of days but had shown no signs of being about to break So I turned the computer off and then tried to reboot it The Acer logo appeared but after that nothing else happened not even the 'start Windows normally' screen The mouse still lit up and the computer seemed to be alive but it downright refused to display anything at all When I briefly tilted it however the display popped up for another millisecond I tried rebooting this morning at which point the 'Acer' screen briefly flashed up I managed to start it up in 'safe mode' and the core features of the computer appear to be working However when I tried to access the internet the error ' x ' appeared This may be completely irrelevant but every piece of information helps So we can basically rule out that the monitor is playing up which makes me wonder how far inside the computer the problem is hidden What do you think could be causing this issue Any advice whatsoever would be greatly appreciated

A:Black Screen on Startup after Random Crash

Could be corrupted memory or a BIOS hardware/software connection issue.
Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector.
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." ( Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English)).
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard, and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware.

With Help from this forum about three months ago I was able to troubleshoot and fix issues with a defective installed Video Driver, but starting about a week ago once again I've been getting BSOD and also freeze-ups [without BSOD] that go to a Black Screen and then I need to reboot.

I had installed the latest Adobe flash upgrade minutes before this crash, after reboot system recommended a boot-up files fix from the menu that went on to restored the previous 'restore-point' configuration, apparently Flash was uninstalled [as Adobe/Flash requested a new install right after the reboot], unfortunately even so the system crashed a minute after again, this time I got a BSOD that reported something related to a Driver, unfortunately I forgot to do a screen-grab.

Hopefully this latest BSOD file dump is uploaded here, Could some one take a look and see which driver or what else could be causing a problem now?

Thanks

A:Sporatic BSOD and Black Screen Freeze-ups/Crash

Hi mackado,

I'm going to need 1 more log file to deduce the problem.

Please follow the steps below:
Go to: Start > Type: msconfig.exe - Press Enter
Go to the tab 'Boot'
Bottom of the window there are check-boxes, tick the one called 'Boot log'
Press Apply/OK
Shutdown the PC
Wait 10 seconds
Turn on PC
Go to - C:\Windows and find a file called ntbtlog.txt
Upload this file to this thread
Once you have uploaded the file, I will take a look and we'll see what we can do from there.

Ok 116 error is caused by your Graphics card.
First thing to do is update your drivers from the NVIDIA website.

If BSODs continue Try HDD tests,
download gpu-z to check if your card is getting too hot, also is there lots of dust in the card?

Do you overclock your video card?

Hello For the last couple months my PC has been having an issue where the screen randomly freezes and the last sounds that were playing loop and then stop This can happen while playing a game be it Hearthstone Batman Arkham City any game Can also happen when using any web based flash like YouTube Twitch etc But I have also had freezes about a minute after logging on without even doing any of the above CPU temperatures right before freeze appear normal and the fans stay at about the same speeds when screen no - BSOD Black System Reboot Hard Freeze, Random on freeze happens at least I don't hear them spinning up I am forced to do a hard reboot but it takes a few tries to get the PC to boot because the monitor simply acts like it doesn't detect any video signal upon reboot I can hear Windows do its boot up sounds Random System Freeze, no BSOD - Black screen on Hard Reboot but nothing on Random System Freeze, no BSOD - Black screen on Hard Reboot screen I have a feeling Random System Freeze, no BSOD - Black screen on Hard Reboot this might be multiple problems linked together I included a zip of my computer's SF Diangostic Tool report Thanks for taking a look at this problem all help is welcome and appreciated

A:Random System Freeze, no BSOD - Black screen on Hard Reboot

That definitely sounds like a graphics driver related issue, if not then a hardware failure in your GPU. I would recommend updating your graphics driver by booting into safe mode (F8 on startup).
Uninstall the current ones via the control panel.

Sounds like you might need a new hard drive there mate. Go get the AVG rescue disk and scan for errors. if there is any AVG will bring it up. please jot down any errors you get. best 'a luck to ya

You can also do this by going to the boot menu and selecting the bottom choice. I forgot what It's called. After that choose system test and symptom tree. scroll down to hard drive errors and do a scan with that. Also jot down errors and tests passed and failed. GL bro

Computer keeps throwing a BSOD shortly after the boot process. I make it to windows with enough time to launch chrome or another program and then the crash happens. I restored windows and it started happening a little less.

I ran a "whocrashed" program that identified something with atheros driver, but when I try to update it windows says it is the most up to date driver.

I have attached the dump/system files to where you can hopefully help.

Thanks in advance.

A:GAMES freeze/crash PC to Black Screen

I would suggest some hardware checks.

   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

i keep getting BSODS,Freeze,Crash when playing games, watching some videos......it happened after someone tried to install a game after he played it for some few mins it started to crash, freeze and bsod. Unfortunately even after we formatted our laptop it still crashes whenever playing games or videos but it rarely happens when watching videos but the real concern is that it crashes sometimes now and then randomly when using a lot of memory or not...i also made a crash dump......Crash Dump

A:Random BSOD's and Freeze or Crash..

There was only the one minidump collected. Where have all the earlier ones got to?Let's collect some more information: I'll have a look at it and help you try to resolve the problem. Please follow the instructions: BSOD Posting Instructions: Windows 7 - Vista(Note: When you run BSOD_Windows7_Vista_v2.64_jcgriff2_.exe, it will also run autoruns.exe ... and both need to be in the same location!)... with one exception in the following line:"4. Zip up the entire output folder + PERFMON and attach the zip file to your next post."The BC forums will allow a total attachment size of only 512 kb (and what you need to attach will exceed this limit). Please upload the zip file to a file sharing website of your choice and and post a link to it in this thread so that we can access your uploaded zip file. I will have a look at the contained information and see if I can shed some light on your BSOD issue.See the suggestions in the following links for recommendations on file sharing websites:http://lifehacker.com/388284/best-online-file-sharing-serviceshttp://www.hongkiat.com/blog/15-great-free-online-file-sharing-alternatives/http://www.smashingapps.com/2008/08/28/5-best-free-file-hosting-services-to-store-your-files.html Please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy, and post a link to it in this thread. It is a convenient and accurate way of providing us with details of your computer specifications. Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List Installed ProgramsClick Go.
When the scan is finished, a text file will open in a Notepad window.Copy the entire contents of the Notepad window, and paste in your reply.
(Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.)

Hello.

Win 8.1 has been crashing randomly. I can't see any triggers at all.

Parts are roughly 1 year-old, ssd is 6 months old. Both CPU and GPU were overclocked, I disabled them but still crashes. Also, crashes did not happen under intensive tasks.

Mostly browsing internet, files, watching youtube stuff. I did install all my drivers using DRIVERBOOSTER, but I ran driver verifier and nothing came up. Also I think if it was drivers, something would have shown up in the event viewer.

I'd like to narrow it down to drivers, software, hardware or OS so I can figure out what is going to be my next step.

Thanks.

A:Random crash/freeze. no BSOD.

Hi Dream3 ^_^,

There are lots of signs that I am wondering about the genuineness of this installed copy of Windows. Could you please follow the below instructions and upload the Log File back.-

Code:
License Information (Windows 8)
Right click on the buttonClick on Command prompt =>Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command
licensingdiag.exe -report "%userprofile%\Desktop\report.txt" -log "%userprofile%\Desktop\repfiles.cab"
Once finished please go to your desktop -> You will see two files report.txt and repfiles.cab -> Please select both files and add them into a zip fileUpload this zip file to your next reply

Hello all! This is my 1st post in the forums but it comes under bad circumstances.

Ever since I installed Sims 3(and since removed) for my daughter on my PC it has been crashing a lot. Sometimes I'll go to the CPU and that little box saying "windows is recovering from an unexpected shutdown"

Other times I'll be playing a game that I never had problems with before and the screen will turn black with lots of colour lines in it plus a buzzing sound. Then the cpu crashes.

I have checked all my drivers and I believe they are all up to date. I'm tapped out of knowledge at this point and I am not sure where to look next.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Random freeze/crash/BSOD's Please Help

Welcome to Seven Forums.

This crash doesn't have specific causes listed.

The dump file show a bug check value 0X3b, this is usually a graphic's driver, other possibilities are antivirus/antispyware/security programs, RAM, Hard drive, loose cables.

Let's start with installing a new ATI Graphics driver
1. First un-install the old driver, Download and install Driver Sweeper from:
Guru3D - Driver Sweeper
2. Uninstall 'ATI Catalyst Install Manager' from Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features
Go to Control Panel, View by: Small or Large icons in Device manager. In Device manager select Display Adapters.

3. In Display Adapters right-click on your device and select uninstall. Tick the box that says 'Delete the driver software for this device'

4. Re-Boot into Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper, to ensure complete removal of items, Run Driver Sweeper as administrator. Right-click Driver Sweeper > properties > Compatibility tab tick 'Run this program as Administrator'.

5. In Driver Sweeper select the ATI- Display only and then Analyse:

6. Now select Clean to remove all ATI software:

7. Re-boot normally and install the newest ATI official drivers.

Then stress test your graphics card, Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Your temps shouldn't go over 90?C.

If you still get crashes, re-install the graphics drivers without Catalyst Control Center.

I don't get a BSOD, just a system crash. Screen freezes in place and no response from keyboard/mouse. My computer was freezing before with the onboard video card I had, so I swapped it out for an Asus HD4350. It used to crash with a blue screen with lines on it. Since the installation of the new card, it just freezes. So I think it's the video card.

Minidump attached!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

A:Get random screen freeze/system crash

It does look like a video card issue. Try updating your card drivers.

Upon booting my computer, I'm presented with the option to go into startup repair, or start normally. If I start normally, it loads the logo, but before it gets to the login screen, it crashes to the boot screen. If I select the startup repair option, it shows a loading bar, which completes, but then the screen just goes completely black, no cursor.

I tried to use the disk system repair that Microsoft recommended, but it just shows a blue screen (not a bsod), and just the spinning load cursor. I'm currently writing this from Ubuntu running on livecd from the same computer, running at native resolution (in case it was an issue with the graphics card).

My specs are:
Packard Bell iPower X3.0
Intel? Core? i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz ? 8
ATI Radeon 5570
6GB DDR RAM
2x 500GB HDD

A:Crash to bootscreen on startup, startup repair black screen

See if disconnecting the hard disk allows you to boot from the repair disc off your CD/DVD drive. Avoid Static Damage to Your PC when removing the hard disk connection. Also, before removing the hard disk connection, make sure the power is drained from the system by turning off the computer, unplugging it from the wall/surge protector, and holding down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and allow power to dissipate from components.

Hi and welcome to TSF,

1. Please try another monitor if possible to eliminate your monitor from the equation.

2. I believe that board has built in graphics, please try and connect to the other vga port on the I/O board on back of pc. You may need to go into bios to enable the internal IGP(graphics built in adapter) beforehand.

I own a Gateway NV52, and the issue with locking up began after I upgraded to Win7. After reloading the factory default of Vista on this, the laptop keeps randomly locking up and then going to a blank black screen.

I've gone to other threads and tried running MemTest and Vista's Memory Diagnostic and they both came up with nothing. I've also seen that other posters have attached dump files and other generated information from the computer to help solve their issues, but I don't know where to find these files to even get started. Can anyone help? What other information do I need to give to get started on the right track?

A:Random Black Screen Freeze, not after login

I would first do a system file check.

System Files - SFC Command
Tutorial thanks to Brink

Then you can view any error messages and see what they mean from this Microsoft site.

How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program generates in Windows Vista

If errors are found run the test again as it sometimes takes about 3 passes to get it all fixed. Sometimes even that fails to repair it but post back with results and we will take it from there.

Was this just an upgrade that you wanted to do, or were you having these issues before as well?

You should also run a test on your RAM sticks with memtest86+ There are two ways to run the test, either from a CD or USB. You will need to burn the ISO to a CD and then boot to the CD and run at least 7 passes on each stick and in each slot (only the ones that are being used). There is an auto-installer for doing it via USB (again, you will have to change the boot order to boot to the USB if you choose this method)

Both downloads can be found halfway down the page. The reason that you should run it on one stick at a time, is so, if there is a fault with one of the sticks, then it's easy to figure out which one it is.

What programs do you have running at boot? What anti-virus are you running as well.

Hello,

A few days ago I had this problem for the first time, my PC freezes (no buttons respond) and I get a black screen. If sound was playing at that moment, it skips continuously. The only thing I can do is powering off my pc and restart it again.

After restarting it says the pc didn't shut down cleanly and starts collecting meta-cache, I have the option to start Windows in safe or normal mode.

After that everything seems unchanged/normal until it freezes again (this is at random, it can be 20 minutes after / 1 hour after /...).

Prior to the first time I did not download/install anything (to my knowledge), nor did something happen to my pc (didn't let it drop, didn't spill anything on it, etc).

I followed the instructions on the "BSOD - Posting Instructions" to make this post.

Hopefully someone can help me with this.

Thank you.

Thomas D.M.

A:PC freeze, black screen and sound skipping at random

There are no dump files in your .zip folder. Can you please follow these instructions on how to configure dump files. Can you also disable automatic restart, just follow the tutorial and you will see a tick box saying "Automatically Restart" untick it.

Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Can you then enable Driver Verifier by following these instructions as it will help determine if there are bad drivers installed.

I have a multi-boot set up with XP 64 as one of the OS's. I have been using it more often recently and it can suddenly give a black screen, keyboard doesn't work (tried to shutdown 'blind' using Ctrl+Alt+Del then Alt+S then Enter, no response). Also pressing Numlock doesn't affect the LED.
There is nothing relevant in Event Viewer.
The PC goes totally dead although the power is still on.

I have Vista 64 also and this works perfectly, so do Vista 32 and XP 32.

There is no pattern to the freezes, at least none I can see, they seem to occur at random times.

I know it's a tall order with such an intermittent fault but has anyone got any idea what I can do to troubleshoot this ?

(if it helps my system specs. are 'under' the PC icon above)

A:Random Black Screen/Crash - I have a minidump + SF.zip!

MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner (along with EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install them immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

cpudrv64.sys is blamed in one of the memory dumps (and it dates from 2009) Please uninstall the program associated with it (I believe it's related to a program named "Can I Run It?" - Driver Reference Table - cpudrv64.sys )

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

NOTE: these symptoms were from the previous release of OverDrive. The new release uses the same driver name, but is dated from 4 November 2013.

Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.

Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

The other 3 memory dumps are STOP 0x124 errors:
They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Also, monitor your system's temperatures with this free tool: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Normally temps shouldn't exceed:
CPU - 60?C
GPU - 80?C
HDD and other components - 40?C

A:New PC, Random Black Screen Freeze under load, no dump file generated

The file you uploaded didn't contain anything. Please run Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions again and select option 2 in the instructions. Click the big orange 'Grab All' button and give it time to finish. Then upload the entire file and we will take a look.

Also, please include manufacturer and model of the PSU in your system specs at the bottom left of your last post. Just click that and there will be a link there to update system specs. Be sure to click save at the bottom of the page. If you haven't already, please list the PSU, CPU cooler and anything else that may help. Sometimes we have to look up a component, so the details to do that helps us to help you.

Also, after that please open a elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

You actually did very well in filling in the system specs. Just a couple more things need to be added. Also, welcome to Seven Forums. When you say a new custom built computer, who built it and I assume it is still under warranty. Just add any details you can about the problem. If it happens when running a certain app, or when doing a certain thing that would be useful info to help us nail down the problem. Can I also assume the OS as already installed when you received the computer?

Hello All,

I have recently got myself an upgrade at the end of May, and I've been getting weird black screen crashes since. Event ID 41, Task 63, Keywords 0x8000000000000002
So far, I have no reliable ways to reproduce the issue. But it occurs rather consistently when I am doing either the following:
1. Browsing on Pale Moon.
2. Playing the video game DOOM (and only happens on DOOM so far) with a sourceport called Zandronum.
3. Doing nothing and had my screen off.

At first, I thought it might be my RAM, because I foolishly mixed my RAM modules of different timing and frequency for a while. But the problem persisted even after I got myself my current RAM.
I do not overclock, and my PSU is new. So I hope those two are not the issue.
I'm not sure what else to do now.

A:Black screen and crash at seemingly random occasions. Event ID 41

hello Khrada, and welcome to the forums. You have no dump files. Please make sure your computer is configured for Small Memory Dumps Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

An event ID 41 simply means your computer restarted unexpectedly. Nothing more.

I looked at your error reports and noticed that most of the error reports recently have been caused by your PS2, I believe. They have been NeptuniaRebirth1 and SCPdriver.exe which I believe is a Emulator driver to allow PS2 controllers to be used on Windows. I believe I would make different arrangements for them and maybe the PS2.

Hello anonymousmurder, Welcome to SF

First off if your OCing in anyway stop, return everything to stock settings for the purposes of testing

If you havent already, fill in your system specs so we know what we are dealing with
System Info - See Your System Specs

Run some scans to check against virus or infection
Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
Windows Defender Offline

Run some basic hardware tests
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Disk Check (windows based check)
Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure (bootable disk check)

OK thats the general stuff now down to specifics
1st dump reports BugCode 0x1 BSOD Index and doesnt give us a great deal to go on as its quite unusual and blames the driver AgileVpn.sys which is a driver from windows update so cannot really cause a BSOD

APC_INDEX_MISMATCH (1)
This is a kernel internal error. The most common reason to see this
bugcheck is when a filesystem or a driver has a mismatched number of
calls to disable and re-enable APCs. The key data item is the
Thread->CombinedApcDisable field. This consists of two separate 16-bit
fields, the SpecialApcDisable and the KernelApcDisable. A negative value
of either indicates that a driver has disabled special or normal APCs
(respectively) without re-enabling them; a positive value indicates that
a driver has enabled special or normal APCs (respectively) too many times.

I've been recently experiencing crashes shortly after booting in Win the problem only happens within - - min of booting So reboot, shortly after boot Crashes BSOD) (freeze, after several initial crashes it almost always will finally go on working without a hitch for the rest of the day Which could be - hours working normally this therefore makes me think it's not an overheating problem The problem has recently gotten worse and now I can never even boot once without it crashing at least once within that time frame Either or all of the following symptoms could occur in one session freeze completely reboot on it's own or a BSOD either while on or on the reboot At it's worst I think it took at least or crashes to get it running ok Yesterday and today have been good with only the one obligatory startup crash which has been the instant reboot Although I do remember that the early symptoms were more a complete freeze forcing me to do the reboot myself Crashes (freeze, reboot, BSOD) shortly after boot One other interesting fact I should mention is when I once ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics that runs before Windows boot I ran it with the extended options as it had previously passed runs of the normal test and it froze then too Crashes (freeze, reboot, BSOD) shortly after boot At least I think it did There is a message displayed saying that during testing the PC might appear to be frozen but I couldn't invoke either of Crashes (freeze, reboot, BSOD) shortly after boot the two available commands Exit and Options so I assume it really was frozen And that leads me to believe - correct me if I'm wrong - that maybe it's hardware related since it happened BEFORE the OS was loaded Am I right I just find the symptoms hard to understand if it is a hardware failure why does it only fail on startup Doesn't make sense to me Despite having it configured for create dump files it almost never does And I can't Restore either because I discovered that although my system was configured to create Restore points for some reason the space allocated to that was Maybe because Windows dynamically allocates space for Restore according to available HD space And since I've often found myself with almost only a few Mbs left maybe then Windows didn't re-increase the space after I made some available Here are two photos I did of BSOD I got there were others with different messages So any thoughts

A:Solved: BSOD or freeze up shortly after computer starts

Hi, how old is this Toshiba laptop - make and model number?
Stay away from "registry software" [cleaners] they can add to the problem, not solve it.
Some reasons for Blue Screens
New hardware - software installed.
Device driver - Video driver - corrupted - faulty.
Faulty Ram - Overheating - Dying hard drive etc.

Run a Mem Test.
http://www.memtest.org/
Scroll down to 'Download (Pre-built & ISOs)'
'Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)'

Download the ISO file -then burn the ISO to a Cd.
Start the Pc using the Cd and run the memory test overnight or for at least 8 passes.

It is best to run a full scan on individual Ram sticks if you can.
Or run the test but if any errors are shown - then remove all sticks of Ram and test each Ram stick one at a time.

Guide to using Memtest86+
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic207910.html
======
If you can check Device Manager.
Click Start button >run > type
devmgmt.msc
.
A driver may need updating - always go to the manufacturers website for any needed drivers.

Please follow the blue screen posting instructions to provide the full reports for analysis.http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.html
Provide the following information about your hardware so we can check compatibility:Download and install CPU-Z and Upload screenshots of the CPU, Mainboard, Memory, and SPD tabs. In the SPD tab, upload an image of each slot. To upload all screenshots, it would be best to:generate the images using the Snipping Tool,
go to where the images are saved,
right click in a blank area within the folder where the images are saved,
create a new folder,
name the folder CPUZ,
select all the images,
place the pointer over an image,
press and hold down the left mouse button and drag the image (all images should move with it),
drop the images into the CPUZ directory you created,
create a compressed (zipped) folder of CPUZ
upload the .zip file to the forums.

Today I used the driver verifier to see if the problem was driver related. When my computer would start up with driver verifier enabled, the system would crash before it could startup windows. It did however generate a minidump file containing information about the crash. Hello... hope someone can help me.

I previously had a problem and it turned out to be a driver, everything has been running fine since then... up until now.

Runnning windows 7 and getting BSOD, a plain blue screen or blackscreen then quickly freezes up with a blank screen.

To best of my knowledge all drivers are updated.

Computer is Hewlett-Packard h8-1114 2.00
3.10 gigahertz Intel Core i5-2400
256 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
6144 kilobyte tertiary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (4 total)
Not hyper-threaded
Seems to only happen when I have firefox open, I tried clearing cache....no luck. Tried starting with fresh window, still crashes.

I ran the DM log colector v1.2 and attached the file.

Thank you very much,

Scott

A stop 0x116 is a display/graphics related issue. Many a factors or components may cause such a BSOD.

First of all, it is the display driver. From your BSOD dumps, I have noticed that it crashed the same irrespective of the driver version over time. So overlooking this part right now. Will concentrate it on later again, if needed.

Next thing is overclocking, which sometimes lead display to crash. And, you are slightly overclocked.

Code:
CPUID: "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz"
MaxSpeed: 3400
CurrentSpeed: 3411
As the system is crashing, you should stop overclocking. Set all the hardware elements like CPU, GPU and RAM to default; and reset the BIOS to default too.
How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

Heat is another factor. Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Also, dust accumulation causes heat, and dust accumulation depends on the age of the system. How old the system is? If possible, dismantle it and clean the inside carefully .... specially the air vents and fan grills, so that it can blow the hot air out easily.
Dont forget to apply thermal paste to the CPU when re-seating the system.

Insufficient power supply is also a great cause of display crash. Check if the CPU is supplying adequate power there or not.

It GPU itself may not perform upto the mark. Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

I had a crash while syncing my ipod to itunes. Both my computer and my ipod froze while the sync was about half way complete. So I had to unplug the ipod and also do a hard boot of my computer. Ever since, my screen goes black shortly after logging on to Windows. Nothing responds after this until I reboot again with the same results. I can, however, boot up in safe mode with no problem.

I was going to do a repair install however my XP cd is an older cd and will not complete the repair install. I have a new Vista upgrade cd that I haven't installed yet. Is this a no-no to try the Vista install? Or should I wait to fix the black screen problem first?

A:Black Screen shortly after logon

If you like XP I would recommend sticking with it and trying a system restore. Power up and tap F8 after first screen text appears. Select Safe Mode. A box will pop up which should walk you through the process.
Vista is a whole different kind of beast, but if you are desperate I don't think upgrading would be a no-no.

Hi,

My laptop crashs quite regular, black screens and restarts randomly. I used to think it was heat related but the laptop doesn't really get hot. Idles at 38c.

There are no crash dump files at all, i've configured windows to not restart in the event of a crash and to generate a crash dump file. I've also installed a fresh install of windows 7 with only the manufactors drivers and windows updates.

I'm going to upload my system information with the hope that someone can shed some light on this.

Hi there, over the last few months my laptop has been frequently crashing when playing games such as Counter Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2, Starcraft 2, as well as others. I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with my computer since it should be capable of handling all of these programs.

It is Windows 7 Home Premium 64.
It is OEM.
The computer and OS Instillation are a bit over a year old.

Hi all,

My computer seems to crash, BSOD and freeze at random times. It seems to always crash after a few minutes of running on a fresh start. I've run Malwarebytes anti-malware scan and MSE Scan which found nothing. I've updated drivers, run Windbg, driver validater, disabled non-windows services, startup applications, bios updates, windows updates, memory check of 5 passes, disk checks, power checks with hwinfo, performance monitor reports and I've still not found any concrete evidence that there is anything wrong except that my computer blue screens for the heck of it.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I'd rather not reinstall, but I can if I have to. I think I may get an SSD before I do though.

Hi all,

So I've had this computer with few issues since I built it but recently whenever i start it in normal mode it runs fine for about 12 mins then the fans (GPU I think) start whirring at max speed and it stops sending anything to the monitor. It works fine all day in safe mode. I've tried: reinstalling graphics drives, reinstalling windows (+ reformat), dusting it, resetting the CPU with new goop, resetting the GPU after dusting, prayer to gods old and new etc... I haven't messed with bios at all. Can anyone help me resolve this? Was there a bad driver released or is this definitely a hardware issue? Thanks!

For reference I'm running:
ASUS p867 le mobo
AMD radeon HD 6950 GPU
Intel i5 2500K CPU
Windows 7
some ram and shiz etc

P.S. sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I have an old water cooled dual Xeon workstation that was my bread and butter using XP- bit until it retired to be my home computer I quot upgraded quot to win -home and was fine until recently when I upgraded to Win -Pro in order to get the second cpu Usually after of startup BSOD shortly the day first recognized Everything Usually BSOD shortly after first startup of the day seemed fine for several months but now I often get a BSOD either during startup but usually within or minutes of logging in and starting work The messages are quite varied and don't point toward a specific driver or program as far as I can tell I have run Memtest- Usually BSOD shortly after first startup of the day overnight with no errors and Prime- for or hours without any errors If the computer stays alive for minutes it never crashes I read elsewhere on the forum today that someone had a similar problem and it was suggested that one of the memory sticks is flaky when cold but OK when warmed up and that would explain what I experience During the Prime- test I noticed from HWMonitor that several ram sticks were running at to C while others were at to but with no problems I planned on swapping memory in and out but the computer has to cool down everynight and even then only crashes about of the time Should I try spraying canned air on the memory while running to see if that causes a crash Attached are log files and Speccy and HWMonitor files

A:Usually BSOD shortly after first startup of the day

Run MemTest86+ in the morning when you first start the system
Then, on another day, run Prime95 when you first start the system

Also, you have to face the very real possibility that the system is not compatible with Win8/8.1
The newer OS's (8 and 8.1) are tightly tied to the BIOS/UEFI - and in many cases the older BIOS's just aren't working with it (my Lenovo x61t tablet is a case in point). Your BIOS dates from 2006 - IMO it's way, way too old for reliable performance w/Win8.

Out of 19 memory dumps there were 10 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system.
- compatibility issues
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hey all,

My computer was working fine one day and the next day I got a BSOD just after Windows had loaded and every time since unless I start in safe mode. A system restore didn't even work.

Have added the zip file of the dump but couldn't run a system health report as it kept saying 'The system cannot find the path specified.'

I own an Asus EeePC T101MT bought in August this year.
It came with Windows 7 (32-bit) and a friend of mine reinstalled it the same day (in August).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I get a blue screen shortly after logging in and loading my desktop. It happens every time. And i can't get my PC working. Sometimes I get an error message saying "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and sometimes there is no error message. I am running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and my PC specs are on my profile. I'll include the crash dump file. Please help. Anyone.Attachment 238267

After having a BSOD problem that left no dump file, it seems my problems have returned a few days later. Luckily a dump file was created this time. The BSOD occurs shortly after startup for the first few attempts after which it will work correctly. Virus scan is clean and booting in safe mode seems to prevent it from crashing. Thanks!

On a side note, the dm log collector seems to delete the folder and leave a empty zip file after finishing. I was only able to get a part of the logs needed.
I can't attach the file using the normal method, so here's a link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/...Files.rar?dl=0

A:BSOD shortly after startup during first few attempts

Can you run the Log Collector again please, sometimes it may take three runs or so to catch everything.

This error is occuring on an Inspiron HP mini laptop. The problem only happens when doing a normal windows boot, it does not occur when in Safe Mode. Windows will start up, and after a short period (usually 1-5 minutes) I will get the BSOD error. I've attempted uninstalling updates that had recently been applied to no avail. I imagine that there is a driver error occurring but I am not quite sure and have difficulty "reading" minidumps. I was unable to run the SF_Diagnostic tool during a regular boot but tried running most of the commands in Safe Mode.

Unfortunately, restore points were never set up on this machine either. Any guidance into what the minidumps might be suggesting would be greatly appreciated.

hey all,

I had a random BSOD after a clean install of Windows 8.1 (non pro 64bit). I installed a couple of web browsers and a version of Photoshop then had the BSOD. So far it's just been this single one since my new installation. I've been battling some more frequent random BSODs in the past running Windows 7. I believed I pinpointed it to a Raid 0 set up I was running with 2 SSDs (Sandisk extreme 120gb's). I'm now down to using one of those SSDs as my OS boot drive.

Thanks for any help!

New fresh install of windows 8 updated to 8.1 with all my motherboard drivers etc up to date. Display drivers are the newest Omega drivers from AMD.

I installed steam and decided to install csgo to my ssd/C: drive since it's my most played game. Now I can play the game fine but after a short amount of time the game and display drivers will crash giving me a black screen and sound loop. I let it sit there for a while so I could get a bsod and crash dump to happen.

Since then I also updated my ssd to the latest firmware and reinstalled my AMD drivers and the problem still persists. I have no other games installed at the moment so if you wan't me to check if the crash happens with other games let me know.

Here is my debug info

A:BSOD during startup, or shortly after logging in, every time.

If checkdisk does not complete your hard disk is very possibly on the way out or already gone. You can go to the website of the hd manufacturer, download their diagnostic, burn it to cd and run it (or go here: Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28744&hl=hard+drive+diagnostic)Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), to make the CD bootable. For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/FujitsuDrivesUSandCanada/SoftwareUtilities#diagnosticNote : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps HERE)

Yesterday my computer started freezing up 30-60 seconds after I got to desktop.

There isn't time to run any sort of virus scans or try and uninstall anything, and it still freezes up even in safe mode.

A couple times it seemed to take longer, only to have programs become unresponsive until it BSOD, but the screen only lasts for a second, but most times it just freezes.

My computer either crashes or got frozen repeatedly on the regular mode (not safemode) . Each time it crashes differently . Sometimes it crashed with blue screen each time with a different code, Sometimes black screen, sometimes frozen, mouse cannot move . Sometimes crash or frozen right after starting with just a move out the mouse, but sometimes good for a few days with no problem . Safe mode usually ok, but sometimes it crash too . I tried to run window diagnostic tool and memtest, both are ok . There were one time though after it crash and restart, it ask to run window diagnostic test and it says hardware problem . Anybody knows what's wrong with my computer ?
Below are a few image of the screen

Hello. I recently installed a new GPU, and some more ram, going from 6(2gbx2+1gbx2) to 12(2gbx2+4gbx2) gb of RAM. I installed an am3 processor into my am2 socket ( I was under impression that because I had am2+ processor I had am2+ socket which is compatible with am3, but i have am2 socket. So after It didn't work, I put my old processor back in. My problem occurs a few minutes after startup, where my computer simply freezes in entirety, without any bsod. I am not sure what is wrong, I installed drivers for my gpu in safe mode, and I believe the amount of thermal paste I applied to processor was light. Let me know what possible solutions or ideas any of you may have. Thank you for reading this and I am happy you are happy to help.

A:Freezing occurs shortly after startup no bsod just frozen

Hello.
Try removing all RAM sticks from your computer and insert one then turn on computer see if it freezes :
1. if not,turn off the computer,add another RAM,check will it freeze >repeat
2. if it does, remove that RAM stick, try with other and so on then do everything from 1.

Also,is the new RAM same speed as the old one?
Different size and speed RAM sticks may not operate well together.

If this doesn't help then check your cpu, maybe pin is broken.

Too little thermal paste won't cause freezes ,heck computer would operate well until it would reach really high temperatures then it would turn off or restart.

-Fresh install of Win7 x64.
-Dell XPS 1640 that originally came with Vista.
-Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9550 @ 2.66GHz
-7.99GB RAM

-Hardware is probably about 3 years old
-Latest OS installation is 1 day old. I re-installed Windows after having this problem recur for a couple of months.

Other notes are that this problem occurs reliably when I start up for the work day, the BSOD causes the system to restart and then it works fine until shutdown and bootup for the next day. Very rarely occurs during the course of my workday.

Thanks for the input!

i checked as many drivers as i could. i flash my bios with succes.
this problem has been bugging me for a few months now i have sent it back and they replaced my harddrive and said it was fixed but well it isn't so i started to search myself and try things but now i really don't know what to do anymore.
i even googled almost everypiece of software on my pc if it could cause a bsod .
i do think the flashing underscores with the black screen have something to do with it
also it's my first time posting a minidump so i don't know if i'm doing it right.
hopefully you can help me because this thing is killing me

Hard to diagnose from a single minidump but it appears to be an attempt by your vga driver to write to read only memory ( a no-no). I would reinstall both your video driver and dcheck to see if there is a newer BIOS to flash.

Possible GPU issue perfect although it wouldn t display native x resolution It would give quot Out of Range quot error on my monitor when I tried to change it to any other resolution I installed an nVidia control program and made a custom resolution of x About half an hour later I got a blue screen Now when I start it up I just get a black screen no error messages just a black screen It isn t just Getting a black screen on startup (no BIOS) after BSOD. A couple days ago my computer began to consistently BSOD within a few minutes of startup There have been no recent hardware or software changes that I can think of The computer was off for consistently 7 sudden shortly BSOD startup, Windows problem Pro - after about days prior to this In the past I've had intermittent bluescreen errors generally only once also shortly after startup if at all Computer info computer was custom built by me -Windows Professional -bit OEM has not been Windows 7 Pro - BSOD consistently shortly after startup, sudden problem upgraded or re-installed -About years old all parts -Intel i - CPU -ATI Radeon GPU -Gigabyte P A-UD motherboard - Watt Power Supply Corsair - GB x GB RAM Thus far I have run Memtest for over hours passes with no errors I have not done individual stick testing due to the memory being difficult to access CPU cooler extends over the sockets I have attempted to to a repair install of Win but a stop occurs before it can complete Prime will have a fatal error with minutes or so but I was able to run it in safe mode without a BSOD I'm generally more stable in Safe Mode as I am now typing this I have upgraded my video drivers Driver Verifier tends to cause faster failures but I have not been able to get a dump from that I am not overclocked though I have slightly increased the voltages to my memory and processor with no notable effect on the crashes I'll attach my collected crashes I'm guessing this is a hardware error possibly my processor but before I spend money on parts that may not be a problem I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable with these crash reports may be able to shed some light on this If you need more information please let me know Thanks

A:Windows 7 Pro - BSOD consistently shortly after startup, sudden problem

These do seem to have been caused by a memory exception and the usual causes for that are memory and a driver.

Since you have don memtest I would try to run verifier again and if you are using a reg cleaner like ccleaner stop for it will remove the DMPS.

No Kernel Memory Dump files being produced upon BSOD?

For dumps to be produced. . .
▪ Page file must be on OS drive
▪ Page file base allocation size must be > than installed physical RAM
▪ Windows Error Reporting (WER) system service should be set to MANUAL
▪ Set page file to system managed, OS drive

Set System Crash/ Recovery Settings to "Kernel Memory Dump" - this will produce. . .
--> a Full Kernel Memory Dump - c:\windows\memory.dmp
--> a Mini Kernel dump c:\windows\minidump

The Full Kernel is overwritten each BSOD; a new mini kernel dump is created w/ different name for each BSOD

Errors on a controller connected to a hard disk:
I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

Quote:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html (read the details at the link)
http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: http://www.carrona.org/malware.html (read the details at the link)

Then, download motherboard/chipset drivers, uninstall the current ones, and install the freshly downloaded one's.

You also have errors with your ATI video drivers, please do the following:
- download the Display Driver ONLY for your video card (NOT the Catalyst Control Center).
- uninstall all ATI stuff from your system through Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program.
- install the freshly downloaded Display Driver ONLY and see if that helps.

If not, post back for more suggestions.

Hi I just joined here and Im having a really abd problem with my computer The specs that i know for sure are ECS k SEM motherboard Nvidia GeForce mb of ram DIMM -pin not sure what brand AMD Duron MHZ I booted my comp a few dyas ago and wont startup, black respond. stays on and BSOD's screen out of nowhere I get a BSOD before that screen with Windows XP comes up I say to myself quot ok maybe its just one time quot and reboot I get it yet again and reboot I finally get to the windows log in screen and I get ANOTHER BSOD after it finished loading Restarted again worked fine I analyze my minidumps and it said the most probably cause of these crashes was hardware At this point I recall a computer technician saying the capacitators on my mobo were bursting but this was a good months ago so BSOD's on startup, screen stays black and wont respond. Im not sure if its FINALLY giving out or if my RAM thats failing Well everything goes well and I turn it off I come BSOD's on startup, screen stays black and wont respond. home the next day and I get another set of BSOD s only this time theyve gotten worse Im now getting - BSOD s and my system completely freezes over causing me to reset Wierd thing is when I reset BSOD's on startup, screen stays black and wont respond. without turning the comp off it goes by fine Its when I turn it off and turn it on that I get this BSOD s It seemed to me that the BSOD s and constant hang ups would get worse by day like if something is slowly dying I eventually got tired of them and stop using my computer for a couple days Today I try turning it on and the screen stays on standby like if its not even connected to the VGA Ive decided to purchase a new mobo same as the one I have now but Im not sure if these symptons lead to bad RAM or failing capacitators on the mobo Any help would be greatly appreciated nbsp

A:BSOD's on startup, screen stays black and wont respond.

Blue screen error messages are one of the most misunderstood error messages out there in regards to windows.According to Microsoft, only 5-20% of these errors are actually caused by the OS. Only 10% are hardware related. The other 70% are the result of faulty drivers or software incompatibility. Based on those numbers, less than 15% of blue screen errors can be permanently resolved with an OS reinstall.

So we can correctly solve this issue we need to get the minidumps. (if the computer is bootable)

To get the Minidumps do the following

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to %systemroot%\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder.%systemroot% is normally c:\windows. They are numbered by date. You can paste that address in address bar to get there.
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder. Please do NOT compress them in .rar
4 > use the "Managed Attachments" option under "go advanced" upload that zip file here as an attachment.

Hi I've been having some issues with my computer Almost every day when I start up my computer within a few minutes hour black BSOD Frequent startup / of screen during first occasional the screen will freeze for a few seconds and the screen will go black while the computer fan is still running if I am playing music or having music playing from something the music will freeze too This frequently happens for a few more times sometimes as much Frequent black screen / occasional BSOD during first hour of startup as times after I start the computer up again Sometimes like today the screen will keep going black and coming back on and a balloon notification will popup on the right saying quot display driver has stopped responding and successfully recovered quot many times until it finally BSODs The odd thing is that this usually only happens during the first hour when I start up my computer for the day After multiple crashes and restarts it will stabilize and it won't occur again until the next day when I do a cold bootup of my computer again rarely it does happen later on though when I'm playing my games And I'm only usually running Firefox and just checking my Facebook when it happens I did do a bit of research on this problem and I found that maybe it could be my Power Supply Unit which needs replacing I never opened up a CPU before so I thought I would ask here first to confirm I have the crash minidump file of my latest BSOD which I feel is related to the black screen problems I'm getting Hopefully someone can point out the Frequent black screen / occasional BSOD during first hour of startup problem for me thank you

Welcome to Seven Forums .

What you are experiencing is called a TDR (Timeout Detection & Recovery) and its not a real crash
in the sense that something wrong occurred in the Kernel.

Timeout Detection & Recovery (TDR) = "Display Driver Stopped Responding and was Recovered" is a useful feature that started in Vista and is also in W7 that allows the OS to try and recover from a video timeout so that the system does not crash to a bluescreen. Symptoms included a screen flash with the TDR message appearing one or more times or the screen blinking out to black. If the system cannot recover it will crash (Stop Error 116 typical). The issue is that the video card is not responding as expected.

There are numerous reports of hardware solutions to TDR's. The most common are:
Poor Cooling
Problems with the power supply
Overclocking Issues
Bad System memory or incorrect memory timings
Defective PC Components

More details HERE, please read.
Please roll-back to a known stable version:

   Tip
Pay close attention to part 3 of the tutorial "If you have errors"
Test the RAM with Memtest86+ for at least 7-10 passes. It may take up to 22 passes to find problems. Make sure to run it once after the system has been on for a few hours and is warm, and then also run it again when the system has been off for a few hours and is cold.

When done with the testing procedure take a picture and upload it here.

Hello everyone I have a Dell Inspiron with Windows Home -bit Here's the problem that just started out of the blue During startup I get the Dell screen and the Windows logo It gets to the point where I see the cursor just before it BSOD startup....restart Safe during Black with screen in Mode 7 should get to the logon screen and the screen goes black The laptop is Black screen during 7 startup....restart with BSOD in Safe Mode still on but nothing shows up Also if I try to enter Safe Mode I can get to the logon screen I can either click on one of the user icons and get into Windows or I can leave it at the logon screen either way the computer shows a BSOD death and then restarts Black screen during 7 startup....restart with BSOD in Safe Mode The BSOD shows a x E code I haven't done too much troubleshooting but here's what I have done Ran startup repair from the Win DVD Used that DVD to get to Command Prompt and ran CHKDSK If it's not a hardware issue I'm hoping not to install from scratch or restore to an earlier date There are some very recent files that would be gone that I really need I've read some things about editing 's equivalent of boot ini but have no idea if that's the fix Anyway thanks so much for taking the time read this I look forward to hearing from you If you need any more info please let me know Thanks

A:Black screen during 7 startup....restart with BSOD in Safe Mode

Get into Startup Repair and run it 3 times.
If that doesn't fix it, then open up a Command Prompt from the Startup Repair disk and type (one at a time, and then press Enter):

bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /rebuildbcd

Press ENTER after each command and see what that does for you.

The problem here is that you can't boot to Safe Mode - so it's most likely a driver that loads early in the boot sequence.
There are ways to fix this, but you've gotta get into Windows to do most of it.
I'd suggest that you either boot to a Linux/Ultimate Boot CD and copy your data off - or that you slave the hard drive to another system and copy the data off that way.

Once that's done, you can freely experiment without the worry of losing your data.

When the system BSOD's, please get this info (the stuff in RED) from the screen:

Hello all I have Windows installed on my Acer desktop computer Over the last few days the computer has been quite laggy It would freeze forcing me to restart it Startup repair used to work It would give me the option of quot restoring system settings quot to a time when things were working correctly or something like that After that the computer would seem fine but this would last only briefly Freezing would inevitably happen again and so I kept repeating the aforementioned process Now whenever I try restarting it I get the usual windows error recovery message as follows Windows Results Not BSOD or Working; Screen Repair Startup in Black failed to start A recent hardware or software change might be the cause If Windows files Startup Repair Not Working; Results in BSOD or Black Screen have been damaged or configured incorrectly Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem If power was interrupted during startup choose Start Windows Normally Followed by these two options Launch Startup Repair recommended Start Windows Normally If I click the repair option I get a black screen or the following BSOD quot STOP x A x B x xFFD x quot If I choose to start normally it loops back to the original windows error recovery message or I get a black screen again Now the key thing is I'm really not at all that technologically literate so in my quest to search for solutions to this problem online I have constantly found myself scratching my head in confusion If anyone could take this into consideration and kindly assist me with this problem it would be greatly appreciated It might also be important to note that my CD driver in jammed because I have come across numerous replies saying to reboot with the windows CD If needed I would somehow need to work around this Thank you

STOP: 0x000000A5 means ACPI_BIOS_ERROR. So, the BSOD is caused for the BIOS.
1st Arg: 0x0001000B : The length of the ACPI table is not consistent with the table revision.
2nd Arg (0x50434146) indicates to the ACPI table signature.
3rd Arg (0xFFD01200) is a A pointer to the ACPI table.
I have a few questions for you.
Have you done anything to the BIOS lately?
How old the computer is?If it is within warranty, ask for a warranty replacement.

Is the motherboard has dual BIOS?If there is Dual BIOS facility in the motherboard, apply the other BIOS.

If it is out of warranty, and no dual BIOS, you have two more options left, as far as I can say.
Reset the BIOS to optimized defaults. 3 Ways to Reset Your BIOS - wikiHow
Search in Acer. If there is any update to the BIOS, apply it.
Let us know the situation up to this.

I have an MSI A6000 laptop with Windows 7 home professional.  I have a nephew who got some vuze files and today I got a BSOD.  So I tried going to Safe Mode, which I could not do.  So I used a Windows 7 installation disk and did a start up repair.  Now after the windows logo comes up, it just hangs on a black screen with the mouse pointer (which moves).  Still cannot get into safe mode.   Tried the startup repair 3 times since then, with no improvement.  Please advise me.

A:Had BSOD, Did Startup repair, now I have a mouse pointer on black screen

at this black screen, I got a dialog box that says ' "winlogon.exe- badimage"    windows/system32/wkscli.dll  is not designed to run on windows or contains an error'

Hey I've been having multiple BSOD's shortly after starting windows, while being on the Desktop.
This has occured after I updated Win7 with about 24 updates. I already tried to find the driver causing the problem, so I thought, you guys might help.

I always get an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error with the Bug Check code 0x0000000a.

I attached you the .zip file created by the DM Log Collector.

edit: The reason was a faulty installation of Norton 360.

The freezes doesn't just happen sometimes when I'm playing games it occurs even when I'm just browsing the internet, chatting, even it froze at the log in screen when windows start up.

Currently I'm using Windows Professional x64 bit. This problem also occurred on my last windows 7, which was Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit. Both on the same computer. I'll post up my specs in a bit. Thanks :]

Heya all I have a bit of a problem where I'm not sure whether it's driver related and playing random screen black whilst crashes LOTRO BSOD, or whether something is failing on my computer My husband seems to think it's driver related but although I can build my own computers when it comes to things like this I'm completely useless First off I can't remember whether I had this issue on my previous set when I first installed Windows or whether it's been just when I've upgraded my computer I just can't recall the first time I started having this problem The first thing I noticed was whenever BSOD, random crashes whilst playing LOTRO and black screen I exited playing a game my screen would go black with monitor message saying no video output and the green power button on my monitor would go orange and I would have turn off and then switch my monitor back on for the screen to come back up Then I noticed that it started doing it randomly when my computer was idle Again I would turn my monitor off and then back on again to get the screen back up During these times when this has happened I've never had to reset my computer I've recently updated my graphics drivers and the issue seems to be a little more often than not now and my husband thinks it's the graphics drivers that's causing it I've done a search on the internet and I've come across similar problems but requires a restart which could mean monitor failure or graphics card failure so I'm unsure as to whether it is driver related The second issue that I've been having is randomly when I play LOTRO EU client I've been having BSOD crashes that require a restart or the LOTRO client has stopped responding error and needs to shut down I've only had BSOD's over the last couple of months the first being when I downloaded the US Beta version of the game to see what DX looked like I thought that perhaps it was DX that was causing it so I disabled DX and didn't have another BSOD for a few weeks A couple of weeks later I was on the EU Live server and I had another BSOD unfortunately for these two BSOD's I haven't got the crash dump report to post up but I'd been having problems with my onboard sound drivers so I thought that could be the reason so I bought a xonar sound card and after that even the crashing and lotro has stopped responding errors stopped and I thought the problem had been fixed Last week I downloaded the preview client for the f p EU Version of LOTRO to help with the stress testing and I again enabled DX Within an hour I had a BSOD and this time I was able to get a crash report from WhoCrashed This is the error message On Tue your computer crashed This was likely caused by the following module ntoskrnl exe Bugcheck code x B xC xFFFFF FC F xFFFFF C A x Error SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION Dump file C Windows Minidump - - dmp file path C Windows system ntoskrnl exe product Microsoft Windows Operating System company Microsoft Corporation description NT Kernel amp System The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module Your system configuration may be incorrect possibly the culprit is in another driver on your system which cannot be identified at this time Which looks like it is indeed a driver issue which is what has been suggested on the LOTRO forums I don't know whether the screen going black and these problems I have with LOTRO are related at all to the Nvidia drivers causing me issues but any help and feedback as to why this is happening would be much appreciated One thing I'm wondering if my monitor was going could that cause an error like this in LOTRO Or is it more likely if it is faulty hardware to be my graphics card Both my monitor and graphics card are less than a year old so I should be able to RMA them if I need to it's just finding out which one needs replacing if it is a hardware fault I hope that I've made sense here and that you can all understand this Also my computer set up is Windows bit Gigabyte Technology Co Ltd GA- T-USB gigahertz AMD Phenom II X Corsair W... fresh install of win10 x64 pro from usb using the media creator tool.

First off, I upgraded from win7 to win10, and the freezes with black screens started.

I reformated, did a fresh install from USB, same thing happened.

I assumed it might have been a failing hard disk, so I stuck a new hard drive in the machine, and am getting the same results.

thanks for any help!

A:fresh win10 x64 pro install random freezing, black screen, no bsod

just happened again. I have this PC connected to a TV via HDMI.

when the freeze occurs, i can tell I lose control of inputs (mouse/keyboard) and the screen turns black for a couple of seconds, returns for an instant (again frozen), and then goes black. audio seems to continue, but bugged out. the hard drive activity light stays solid. when the hard drive activity light stops, so does the audio.

here is the latest collection
*also i notice google chrome seems to bug out on me. randomly certain tabs will not load, and remain all white, and not respond.
