BSOD on wake up from "sleep"

Q: BSOD on wake up from "sleep"

Hello,

This probably will be my last attempt at getting win 7 64 to run properly on my dual boot machine.

The partition only has Win 7 64 on it with:

Norton Security Suite
Thunderbird
Blue Screen View
Acronis 2013 v6514 ( installed AFTER the BSOD )

I am trying to install only one program at a time and then use the machine for a week and install another program and so on.

Today I had the machine on standby, not hibernation, and when I woke it up I got the BSOD.

Blue Screen View seemed to indicate the error was caused by DirectX.

What do you guys think?

Thank you,

J T

Preferred Solution: BSOD on wake up from "sleep"

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

Your dump files show a STOP 0x116 which is a Display or Graphics related BSOD.

It appears you have a Beta Version installed 320.49, please uninstall and
install version 314.22, which is a stable driver:

1. Download and install Driver Fusion.
2. Reboot the computer in Advanced Boot Options, safe mode.
3. Search Driver Fusion in your start menu, and remove all components of your nVidia display driver.
4. If it says the free version of Driver Fusion cannot remove all the elements, stop there and follow:
Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
5. Boot normally now. Then install the 314.22 driver. Reboot.

Then disable the Nvidia updater:

1. Press "Win key + R" combination to open the Run search box.
2. Type msconfig and click OK.
3. The System Configuration window will open
4. Select Start up Tab and uncheck any Nvidia update programs present, click Apply.
5. Select the Services Tab, and check the "Hide all Microsoft Services"
6. Uncheck any Nvidia Corporation boxes, click Apply then OK, reboot.

If your BSOD's continue after this, then follow this guide for STOP 0x116 errors:

http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/63320-stop-0x116-video_tdr_error-troubleshooting.html

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes:

Tip
Run these tests overnight

Also please ensure you have all the latest Windows updates installed.

Sometimes this laptop refuses to come out of Sleep or Hibernate (blinking cursor) and will force a Startup Repair.

Occasionally BSOD's will occur but the previous issue mentioned is more prevalent.

Has been happening over the span of the last two months.

Appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

I'm really hoping one of you geniuses can help me as I purchased this laptop (ASUS N550JV) less tan 30 days ago and I've had about 5 BSOD's, all occurring on wake up from sleep. Finals are coming up and I'd really appreciate any help you guys can offer. Files attached below. Thanks!

A:BSOD on wake from sleep, "Your PC ran into a problem"

All BSOD's were caused by Qualcomm Atheros Extensible Wireless LAN device driver: athwbx.sys & athw8x.sys. Go to ASUS site and download the latest version then update it.

I have searched for a solution that will enable my Win8.1 ASUS X54C laptop to wake-up from 'sleep' when an incoming Skype call occurs.

I am in the habit of putting my laptop in "sleep mode" when I know I will not use it for more than 30 minutes or so. Being retired, I am on and off my laptop many times a day, and I occasionally miss incoming Skype calls from family overseas if am not sitting at my laptop

I have searched for a solution, but have not found a 'fix'

Is there any way I can allow and incoming Skype call wake the laptop, and so (by my Skype ringtone) alert me that someone is trying to contact me on Skype?

A:Wake-up from "sleep" for incoming Skype call

hi,I don't use Skype myself ,but my search finds make sure 'wake on lan ' is set in the bios ,did you try that ,good luck

Other than going through each and every task in the task scheduler, is there a way to see those that are allowed to wake the machine while it is sleeping? My PC woke up this morning at 3:30 am. It then went back to sleep about ten minutes later. I've checked all of the normal things (no auto-maintenance, etc.) so I' suspecting it is a task that woke the PC up.

A:Find "Wake up from sleep" Scheduled Tasks

3:30am is the normal time W10 schedules to restart your PC after an update. Might be worth checking the Update page in Settings and see if your update history shows if anything happened or if a scheduled restart is set.

Under the advance power settings in Windows 7, if I change the

to enable again the next time I check the setting.

Any idea why this happens and how to fix it?

A:Where are "ModemRingOn" and "PME Wake Up Event" located in bios?

BIOS's vary widely; there is no standard features that are included. It's possible your BIOS has neither of them.

If these are features you are interested in exist, the first thing to do is to check the motherboard manufacturer's web site's "support" page, and find out what the latest version of BIOS is available for your motherboard, compare that to what you actually have on your motherboard, and then read the change log to see if possible these features were added.

You can also research these features by Googling the text "ModemRingOn" and the model number of your motherboard "GA-XYZ123" in the same search, in order to filter hits that are limited to those that include references to both of these qualities. Look for forum posts, and other technical sites & information.

Also, look for the User Manual for your motherboard on-line. Sometimes these include information on the BIOS of the motherboard.

Hi. Start menu -> I can only see shut down, or sleep, depending on how it's configured, but to access other power options I have to click on the small white arrow to the right of the power button.

So if the default setting of the big button is shutdown then it's a hassle to choose sleep because I have to click on the oh so small button arrow thing.

There's loads of room at the bottom right of my start menu so please tell me how to have a shutdown button AND a sleep button, because I frequently use both functions and don't want to have to choose only one for quick access. Cheers

A:BSOD "page fault in non-paged area" after waking fro sleep

Please uninstall the Western Digital software. The wdcsam64.sys driver dates from 2008 and is known to cause BSOD's

Please update your video drivers (both Intel and AMD) from the manufacturer's website. It appears that you've rolled them back and they're now from a period before Win8.1 was released.

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The drivers that are struckout don't have updates available (AFAIK).
DO NOT delete them, just leave them be.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

I have been using my asus laptop but recently started blue screening. When trying to shut it down the screen will go black, but the system lights remain on and it remains running, however irresponsive. It also began showing a blue screen with the warning "Driver power state failure".

Hello,

I left my computer on and open this morning before I left for class. When I returned, I had a BSOD, which specified "Driver Power State Failure" (I did not copy down any numbers, as I probably should have). I did a forced shut down (held the power button) and then restarted it, where it fortunately works for now.

My laptop is an Dell XPS-15, about two years old. I have not had any problems with it until now, and the past week or so it has been freezing up. I downloaded the SF Diagnostic Tool, and the zipped folder is attached.

I am uncertain what action to take next. Could someone advise me in how to fix the issue?

Thank you!!

A:BSOD after sleep or hibernation - "Driver Power State Failure"

upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

Hi

I started having this BSOD after upgrading to win 8 and it is still persist after upgrade to 8.1.

it happens every time I wake the system from sleep.

Can someone please help me to pinpoint what triggering it?

A:Win8.1 BSOD "PAGE FALUT IN NON PAGED AREA" after sleep

Your BIOS dates from 2008. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

With a BIOS that's this old, it's very likely that the system may not be compatible with Win8 or Win8.1. I have a Lenovo x61t tablet that is in this area and I wasn't able to get it to work reliably with Win8 even when I was visiting Microsoft last April. In my case the solution was to go back to Win7.

****************

Note - something is causing my system to hang when processing your memory dumps.
I suspect a corrupted dump file, but will have to do them one-by-one in order to figure that out.
Will post back when I'm done.

A:BSOD after pc wakes from sleep mode, now w/a "clunking" noise from HDD

Hi.

""backed up everything to my external with windows backup"" Good idea.

You can also copy paste any important file in your external hd.

Clunking noise in hard disk = 90% the hard disk is dying.

Remove the one hard disk and check if you hear the clanking, then do the same with the other.
We want to find the damaged hard disk.

You can run also the Disk Check
A) Check the Automatically fix file system errors box. (See screenshot below step
B) Check the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors box.

Have in mind that,Disk Check attempt to Fix Errors and Recover Bad Sectors.
It doesnt repair damaged\dying hardware.

Firstly, I would like to apologize for my bad English

After updating some drivers and install some software I get time to time BSOD error while I put Windows in sleep mode...

Update the network driver form Realtek .... Get the second one of the list, i.e. the Win7 and Server 2008 R2 Auto Installation Program one and install it following the instructions supplied inside the zip.

Also update the driver to the webcam ..... HD Webcam C270

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Report us for any further BSOD after doing these.

I had switched the page file to a second drive (1tb Samsung F3 7200rpm) which is my data drive, in order to improve performance. The OS is on a WD Black 640GB. A:afraid to go to sleep - "no BSOD" STOP 0x0000009f

The first thing to check is whether the hard disk is physically connected to the motherboard properly. To do so:Shut down and turn off the computer
Remove the AC Adapter
Remove the battery
Hold down the power button for 15-30 seconds to close the circuit and drain any residual power
Remove the panel on the underside of the laptop where the hard disk is housed
Remove and re-insert the hard disk by sliding it away from the connector and then gently but firmly pressing it back into the connector (no screws should need to be removed to do this step)
Replace the panel on the underside of the laptop to cover the hard disk
Replace the battery
Replace the AC Adapter
Turn on the computer and see how it responds
Post back once these steps have been implemented whether the system is stable. Sometimes these crashes can occur due to a loose connection.
If the above does not resolve the problem, check for conflicts with services or startup programs: Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
If you still have problems, check drivers by letting Windows stress them and let us analyze crashes during the drivers stress test.An underlying driver may be incompatible\conflicting with your system. Run Driver Verifier to find any issues. To run Driver Verifier, do the following:a. Backup your system and user files
b. Create a system restore point
c. If you do not have a Windows 7 DVD, Create a system repair disc
d. In Windows 7:Click the Start Menu
Type verifier in Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click verifier and click Run as administrator
Put a tick in Create custom settings (for code developers) and click next
Put a tick in Select individual settings from a full list and click next
Set up the individual settings as in the image and click next
Attachment 210491
Put a tick in Select driver names from a list
Put a tick next to all non-Microsoft drivers.
Click Finish.
Restart your computer.

If Windows cannot start in normal mode with driver verifier running, start in safe mode. If it cannot start in safe mode or normal mode, restore the system restore point using System Restore OPTION TWO.

Thanks to zigzag3143 for contributing to the Verifier steps.
If you are unable to start Windows with all drivers being verified or if the blue screen crashes fail to create .dmp files, run them in groups of 5 or 10 until you find a group that causes blue screen crashes and stores the blue screen .dmp files. The idea with Verifier is to cause the system to crash, so do the things you normally do that cause crashes. After you have a few crashes, upload the crash reports for us to take a look and try to find patterns.

When you are ready to disable Verifier: Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click Command Prompt -> Run as administrator -> Type the following command and then Enter:verifier /reset-> Restart your computer.

Hi everyone!

Yesterday my HP laptop (Windows 7) started getting BSOD with various types of errors (mostly "STOP: 0x00000F4", "STOP: 0x0000007A", "c00021a" and one "missing %hs, c0000135"). Most of the time it restarts without any issues and works fine right after the BSOD and then an hour or two later I get a BSOD again.

I have tried restoring to Last Known Good Configuration, startup repair, hard disk check, virus scans and I also uninstalled any recently added programs I could think of and cleared up more than 50% of my hard disk space. None of these seem to have helped and I still get BSOD regularly.

I have attached the folder from the SF Diagnostic Tool and would appreciate any advice!
Thank you!

Hey guys,

Having a bit of trouble with BSOD usually occuring after waking from sleep mode, though it has happened after restart/shut down as well. I built the computer myself and upgraded to Windows 8 64-bit (from a Windows 7 clean install). The BSOD only seems to be a new problem however (after upgrading to Win8).

I've attached the dump files. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:BSOD on waking up from "sleep mode".

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:

There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard! I STRONGLY suggest not using controller drivers older than mid-2012 with SSD's.
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.
- Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
06 Dec 2011 - This post tends to confirm issues with certain SSD chipsets and certain controllers - [SOLVED] cant find the cause of BSOD F4 - Tech Support Forum
05 Jan 2013 - very interesting post about difficulties with the Marvell controllers even when not connected to the SSD drives: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cras...ing-sleep.html
27 Feb 2013 - I'm starting to see much better reliability with SSD's using current (mid-2012 and later) storage drivers. I have withdrawn my objections to using these devices in everyday systems.

All of the memory dumps point at athw8x.sys - a driver for your wireless card. I would suggest:
- download a fresh copy of the latest wireless card drivers from the PC Manufacturer's website
- uninstall the current wireless drivers from the system
- install the freshly downloaded drivers
- monitor for further BSOD's

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Whenever I wake up from sleep on my computer, I can see what I was last doing for about 5 seconds, and then it BSODs. All I can remember from it was it saying "KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR".

If you can't see it on my profile, I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium (x64). I installed it using an install disc and the product key sticker, and then installed all the default drivers and my custom graphics card driver. Everything works fine but if I put it to sleep/goes to sleep automatically, it won't wake up without BSODing.
From what I've found on the internet, this is probably because some drivers are missing and so when it boots up it needs to use those drivers, and since it can't find them, it can't boot, but I've installed all of them.

I've followed the steps on here and used the tool and zipped it and everything, it's attached.

A:BSOD when restarting from "sleep-mode"

Welcome aboard.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

I have an HP Pavilion and cannot get the machine to "Hibernate" "Sleep" and Vista problem power down into Sleep Mode or Hibernation When I first bought this PC the middle of last year I remember reading after my first Windows Update that the feature might be lost as a result of the Windows Updating process However as the months have gone by and more and more apps having been installed and loaded on to this machine it now takes longer for it to boot up I always liked the Hibernate feature on my old Windows XP machine but since I lost the Sleep and Hibernation features on this machine and realized why they were gone shortly after having purchased it I just went ahead with complete shut downs and cold boots At this point though I'm pretty tired of the extended waits for the machine to boot up all the time so I would like to know if it's possible and if so how I might get the Sleep or Hibernate features back on this machine I wasn t sure what other Section to post this message in since I don t see an applicable Heading so I went with the General Folder

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

As the STOP-code changes, how do I track this error? (I totally newbie to x64 OS)

A:BSOD playing Aion, "REFERENCE BY POINTER" and "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL"

No DMPS included in upload try this method.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hello,

When my laptop wakes up from stand-by or from hibernation mode, it pops up this dialog box asking me to

"Please choose which application should receive the image"

and has a list of applications below (currently):

"Imaging
Microsoft Office Word
Photoshop
Picasa2"

This also happens when I attach an external monitor to my laptop. The pop-up window goes away regardless if I select an application and click OK or click Cancel, and its the same behavior - the window goes away and nothing further happens. Its not a major problem, as everything works fine, but its just annoying. If anyone knows what's going on and how this can be fixed, I'd appreciate a reply.

Attached is a screenshot of the pop-up window.

Thanks!

I recently did a clean install of Windows 8 Professional and for some reason when I disable "Wake only on magic packet" under the power management options of my NIC, it will return to default (enabled) after a restart. Mind you that when I uncheck it manually, everything works as it should, however if just doesn't want to retain this setting after a shutdown/reboot. My concern is that if I forget to uncheck this after a reboot, then I will not be able to remotely wake my computer over WAN since my router doesn't support this - which is why I have both magic packet and pattern match enabled in the advanced settings...

Any help is appreciated!

Help - I'm running Windows 7 Home premium. About three weeks ago, when waking from a sleep mode, the monitor would make a slight popping sound, then would flash the monitor logo several times before the home screen appeared.

This problem is worsening -- and is now happening on startup too, i.e., the monitor will pop and flash its logo for several minutes before the computer is ready.

I have had trouble-shooting suggestions from HP that involved resetting the screen saver, resetting sleep mode, and doing a system restore -- none of those seemed to help my problem.

Any suggestions?

Hello,

I have a custom-built PC using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. After I come home at night or get up in the morning while leaving my computer on during the day or night (i.e., computer has been on and idle for ~8hrs), I find that the computer has entered some sort of sleep mode from which I cannot awaken it. I moved the mouse, pressed every key on the keyboard (keyboard LED came on when I did that), and I pressed the power button as well. Eventually I had to switch off the power supply. Upon reboot it says "Resuming Windows..."

I thought I had turned off hibernation (Set it to Hibernate After: Never)
This is super annoying.

Anyone know how I can prevent this in the future?

Many thanks.

A:Unable to wake up computer, rebooted and "Resuming Windows"

Turn off hibernation, turn off sleep. Shut down the pc manually.

Some MB`s are funny like that. Has yours always behaved this way or is it something new ?

My XFX board behaved like that, my new MSI board goes into sleep and I just push the power button and bam, my computer is back up in 3 seconds, I love it.

I have been getting the BSOD since a few weeks and found out by trial and error that a USB-hub is causing the problem. Whenever I disconnect the hub before I shut off the computer I do not get the blue screen.
Yesterday I also got a BSOD that mentioned driver power state failure. After I had de-installed Ubuntu 10.04 (I wanted to see what people are talking about but did not really like it) that problem did not show up again, although I do not know if that is just coincidence.

I have enclosed the dump files as per your instructions and hope that somebody will be able to help me.
Thank you.

For the past two days I've been getting BSOD while playing games This only occurs while a "dxgkrn.sys" by causing BSOD "ntoskrnl.exe"" and game is open and sometimes the blue screen doesn't even come up the pc simply restarts and comes up with the pop up like it does when you get a BSOD It first occured BSOD causing by "dxgkrn.sys" and "ntoskrnl.exe"" when I upgraded to windows from win naturally I downgraded to win however the usb drivers became corrupt and therefore I had to clean install win After doing so the same problem occured giving a BSOD with this in the dump file st crash Imgur The most awesome images on the Internet nd crash Imgur The most awesome images on the Internet After seeing this I fresh installed windows again and the problem is still occuring Ive tried installing older graphic drivers however that made no difference im currently running the drivers that came on a cd with my pc Here are my specs Imgur The most awesome images on the Internet In the attachments is the file produced by SysnativeBSODCollectionApp Any suggestions as to the source of the problem or solution greatly appreciated

A:BSOD causing by "dxgkrn.sys" and "ntoskrnl.exe""

[Update] Because the forum won't allow me to edit the post anymore.
Before the actual "crashing"/BSOD starting I was getting errors saying "The display driver has stopped working and recovered" and "Application X has been blocked from using graphic software". This was all happening while playing cs:go. After a while of restarting csgo and continuing to play for about 5 min before it crashed again it just started restarting or the monitor went blank and the pc stayed on forcing me to hold the power button to restart it.
The BSOD/black screens/restarts mostly happen while playing games however they sometimes occur while browsing or when the computer is simply on without anything (but the antivirus) running.

I use a basic non-powered USB hub when working on my laptop at my desk so I can use an external USB keyboard and mouse both plugged into the USB hub After using the laptop elsewhere then reconnecting it to the USB hub at my desk I device won't to computer" wake "Allow disabled. stay find that Windows has reset ie re-enabled the quot Allow device to wake computer quot settings for both the keyboard and mouse It "Allow device to wake computer" won't stay disabled. does this every time and I keep having to disable the quot Allow wake quot settings each time I reconnect the USB hub Pic I disable wake from devices then Windows turns it on again when the hub is reconnected Process is as follows laptop is on USB hub is connected Disable quot Allow device to wake computer quot for both the keyboard and mouse devices Put the laptop to sleep Keyboard mouse now cannot wake it which is good Disconnect USB hub Laptop is woken and used on its own then put to sleep again Reconnect USB hub Wake laptop via power button Lo and behold the quot Allow device to wake quot options for the keyboard and mouse are enabled again I need quot Allow device to wake computer quot to always be off since each little desk vibration will wake the computer when it's asleep on my desk Unless the hub is unplugged every time of course but who wants to keep doing that I don't mind if it's a system-wide setting to permanently disable wake via devices as I will never want to wake the laptop any way other than using the power button Edit more info I have also disabled quot Allow device to wake quot for all the USB hub devices and Windows does indeed remember those settings and yet it re-enables them specifically for the mouse and keyboard devices as above when the hub is plugged in again Weirrrd

A:"Allow device to wake computer" won't stay disabled.

You could change the Power Settings. To do that open Control Panel, select Power Options, then click on Change Plan Setting, when that opens click on Change Advanced Power Settings, that will open & you will see settings that you can change. Scroll down to the USB settings, click on the little + sign & that will show USB Selective Suspend settings, click on the + sign that is there, then click on Settings & that will show Enabled or Disabled. Select Disabled. Then click Apply & then OK.

That should stop the problem you are having.

This sleep problem is driving me crazy I've had problems in the past with my laptop not being able to go to sleep or awake from sleep but I've always been able to figure it out by updating drivers or changing the settings in device manager but this time nothing is working I've referenced the quot Power options and sleep problems tutorial quot and have included a screenshot of the command prompt When I type in powercfg -deviceenablewake quot exact name of device listed in step A quot I get the quot You do not have enable to "You device have permission disable wake." or don't permission "You don't have permission to enable or disable device wake." to enable or disable device wake quot I am the only user and have full administrator access Some background on my laptop HP G - us ghz dual core gb ram Due to overheating issues after my motherboard got fried I got another motherboard from HP but noticed that it was for a different model but it didn't seem to make a difference as everything worked okay Then my hdd finally died after months of quot Smart Failure Message quot so I upgraded to a bigger and faster hdd - from a gb rpm "You don't have permission to enable or disable device wake." Toshiba to a gb rpm WD I have had problems with it ever since I replaced the hdd At first I couldn't even get the computer to sleep but finally "You don't have permission to enable or disable device wake." figured out that it was my magicjack phone that was keeping it from going into the sleep state I never had this problem with the magicjack and sleep state before the hdd replacement Now while it will go to sleep I cannot get it to wake with my wireless laser mouse Targus or keyboard Microsoft I've updated and downloaded every freaking driver for the mouse and keyboard from the manufacturer's to Microsoft updates and nothing seems to work My bios options are almost nil when it comes to changing anything and my options to quot allow this device to wake the computer quot is greyed out in my device manager under USB and don't have a power option under keyboard or mouse Can someone please tell me what to do

Hello Migawka,

It sounds like your command prompt is not running as administrator (elevated). Do you have UAC disabled by chance?

Type this below in your command prompt and press Enter, then try again to see if it may help.

Hi

I use the Win10 built-in photo screensaver.

If I try "wake up" my PC (ie. click on keyboard or move /click mouse), the computer seems to hang (or is slow) to exit the screensaver mode.

I do use a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse.

Has anyone experienced this and if so, what is the fix?

Thanks

I can't think of anything imediately, if you already have your monitor set to turn off under the Power Settings in your screensaver window, and it comes on when the programs start up. Have you thought about just switching off the monitor when you leave the computer, and switching on again when you return?

Sorry, I'm not going to be able to help you with this one, but I do have exactly the same problem with the backup software I use.(Shadow) and my Western Digital NAS Drive.

Maybe we can both get fixed at the same time.

I did a clean install upgrade on my wife's system about two months ago. Since then it "spontaneously" starts up after it has been sleeping or hibernating. Sometimes it shuts down again spontaneously after only a few seconds or after a few minutes.

It showed the same behavior under Windows 7, but I assumed I wiped out whatever was causing that behavior with the clean install.

I have checked the details of the Power Option, and Wake Up Timers are set to Disable. What else should I be looking at?

My office just upgraded and I can no longer use Windows XP On this system I was able to add a separate taskbar to facilitate quick access to commonly-browsed folder locations on our vast network and another one expedited the launching of useful programs and lists Each task on each taskbar was represented with a big custom icon to save eye strain I had them installed in opposite vertical margins and they "Launchpads", to "Toolbars" for "Docks" (MSese "TASKBARS" NOT add Need were set on auto-hide to keep them out of the way when not being used Just move your mouse pointer to the left or right margin and BAM Sorry for the cliche but I really got used to the convenience of what I had set up and I just don't think I Need to add "TASKBARS" (MSese for "Launchpads", "Docks" NOT "Toolbars" can be as efficient without anything comparable Now there appears to be nothing comparable in the Windows GUI and it's making me sick with rage I see only the option to put a quot toolbar quot on an existing quot taskbar quot and no option to create any additional taskbars This cramps up your one-and-only taskbar plus the tiny toolbar access buttons require way too much precision for anything that's supposed to be quick When you've figured out how to bring up that ridiculous button the list that it yields is small enough to cause painful eyestrain - nothing efficient much less cool about this at all I have seen customization options in other OS GUIs that may have resolved some of these issues but I see none such in W I have tried every google search string that I can think of and found no answer that deals with anything other than adding that stupid toolbar to the only taskbar that Microsoft will allow you in W So If I'm wrong and have missed some options how do I access them Otherwise I'm hoping there are developers who know what I am talking about and have software to enable the creation of separate taskbars launchpads Can anybody help with either

A:BSoD with "STOP:0x00000024" error and "Ntfs.sys"

Hello rting,
You have quite a few different types of crashes there.
Before we investigate the underlying causes it would be wise to do the following.

1. Asacpi.sys

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Quote:
Please visit this link: Asus tek computer inc. -support- drivers and download p7p55d le

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P5K-VM

Scroll down to the utilities category, then scroll down to the "atk0110 driver for windowsxp/vista/windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).

Download and install it.

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers to check and make sure that the asacpi.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (not before).

2. McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD's.
I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST!

The following was displayed in 'Automatic Repair' on startup quot The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors quot quot amdkmafd sys quot quot xc b quot I had installed the new windows anniversary update and after finally sorting out everything to my liking I decided to boot up Radeon Settings to see if there was an update for the driver from AMD I was greeted with a message saying that the AMD driver was either missing or wasn't working properly and that I should go to AMD to download and AMD "0xc000007b" drivers during of "amdkmafd.sys" BSOD install install the correct driver Obviously confused as to why it would be missing or had errors I continued to download AMD's auto driver detect tool "amdkmafd.sys" "0xc000007b" BSOD during install of AMD drivers and ran it In the 'checkbox' stage of AMD's auto detect tool I saw that under all the items was a message saying that no version of that item was installed which I "amdkmafd.sys" "0xc000007b" BSOD during install of AMD drivers found rather weird that the drivers don't exist and the culprit initially points to the windows update I just completed I continued with the install and it was at that point when I experienced the BSOD The computer didn't restart after the BSOD so after some waiting I restarted it manually It then booted into Automatic Repair and the obvious route after the computer won't start due to the missing or corrupted system driver would be to use a recovery disk or USB Sadly I have neither I have restore points but obviously can't get to them I can't use the BSOD dump analysing tool for obvious reasons Any response would be greatly appreciated

Hi everyone,

I recently have noticed more and more BSODs. I had this problem about 6 months ago and was able to track it down to drivers that came from Daemon tools. I cleared all that out and it fixed the issue. I don't think these new BSODs are related but they might be.

This seems to be happening randomly. It happens roughly every 2 weeks and early in the morning (1am, 6am, 9am, etc.) but not at a consistent time. As far as I can tell, I am not doing anything or leaving open any specific program that triggers this. There doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern.

I ran the DM Log Collector and uploaded the zip file here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey all, I've gotten a couple blue screens over the past couple of days. I just replaced my GTX 660 with a 960 over the past weekend and received a Bad pool header BSOD on the 9th, then today (the 11th) 2 Reference by pointer BSOD's. I've done some research and it seems to all point to driver errors. My brother just got the same GPU and is having a massive amount of blue screens with slightly different errors. Is this an issue with Nvidia?

Thanks for your help! All req'd info should be attached below

Arg3: 0000000000000001, Reserved
Arg4: 0000001000000000, Reserved
The reference count of an object is illegal for the current state of the object.
Each time a driver uses a pointer to an object the driver calls a kernel routine
to increment the reference count of the object. When the driver is done with the
pointer the driver calls another kernel routine to decrement the reference count.
Drivers must match calls to the increment and decrement routines. This bugcheck
can occur because an object's reference count goes to zero while there are still
open handles to the object, in which case the fourth parameter indicates the number
of opened handles. It may also occur when the object?s reference count drops below zero
whether or not there are open handles to the object, and in that case the fourth parameter
contains the actual value of the pointer references count.

Hi,

When our website users click on an html attachment embedded on a web-page in IE9, the download manager will not display the "Open" option. It will only display "Save" and "Cancel" which our users don't like, having to save the
html document in a folder to open it. Whereas, when downloading attachments like pdf, word etc. all three options are displayed.

Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?

A:IE9 download manager will not display "Open" option (only "Save" and "Cancel" is displayed) for downloading HTML documents.

Hi,
As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.
So I suggest you test to reset all zones to a lower level temporarily and then please attempt to download this html attachment again.

However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.
could you please send me the link of the website from where you are trying to download the html attachment?
Thanks!

On one of my (Many) home desktops I have a keyboard hooked up with a "Power" button, a "Sleep" button, and a "Wake Up" button, this keyboard came included with the computer and I would like to know how to get the "Wake Up" button to function, sure I can wake up the computer with the spacebar but it's sort of a natural instinct to press "Wake Up" and it always just pops into my head "Oh yeah, that doesn't work.". I don't necessarily NEED this function but it'd be nice if it worked properly or served any purpose at all, if there is no way to get it to work would there be a way to use it as something else more useful?

A:Computer A Bit Slow On "Wake-Up"

Hi puterdummy59

Most likely, if the computer is running fine now - you're OK.

If you had a lot of processes going when your PC went into hibernation, it would take a bit longer to get back up to speed [but it should still have been faster than a "cold boot"] .

I like to recommend malware scans anytime you feel your system's behavior or performance is unusual. Use the "thorough" and "High" settings for your scans.

If this is a laptop, and it was still in a very warm setting (even after hibernating) [in direct sunlight, or near a space-heater, for example], it could be slowing the cpu to keep things cool enough [cpus don't like to fry like my morning scambled eggs :) ]

Best of luck
. . . Gary

I have a brand new XPS One 27 with WIndows 8 and have had this issue off-and-on since I got it. If computer is left on it goes to sleep - but later when I wake it using the mouse the screen just kind of 'blinks' but doesn't come back on to get me to the sign-on screen. I end up crashing the computer by holding the power button down and rebooting...which can't be good. Any suggestions of what's causing this?
thanks,

A:XPS One 27 - Monitor Doesn't "Wake Up"

Hi LouRicc,
It appears to be an issue with the drivers. Please update the drivers below mentioned link depending on the video card installed on the system:
nVIDIA Graphics Driver: http://dell.to/15JgCRq
Intel Graphics Driver: http://dell.to/13wVGZ
Once the video drivers are updated, please update the BIOS from the link http://dell.to/ZKjskS. Restart the system and check its functionality.
Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that no external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected. All other programs should be closed and documents saved. Connect your computer any surge protector (if available) to avoid any unexpected shut down.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

Ever since getting the Hibernation feature functioning on my machine about a month ago I've noticed a very peculiar problem with the machine waking up on its own, usually when I'm not around, and I need to know how to stop it. It usually happens after the PC has been powered down for several hours. Today I had put it into Hibernation and then went out, and several hours later when I got home the thing was on, apparently having turned on by itself.

Does anyone know the reason for this and how it can be stopped? This has occurred on about four separate occasions so far over the last month.

A:Hibernation "Wake Up" problem

if you really want to use hibernation (i would not use it cause of issues), sounds like your computer may be waking up with the your lan card. go into the network card propeties in device manager and turn wake up with lan to OFF.

Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

other than that could be windows checking for updates a virus scan or so on.

This is annoying me greatly and I can't find it to change it. I want my computer to sleep but wake when "I" say so. Every time I walk near it or sit at my desk, it wakes up automatically. Drives me batty. I don't always want to use it when I sit at my desk. When the computer was in my office it wakened every time I walked in the room.

How do I wake it ONLY by hitting a key? It's creepy. It's like my computer knows where I'm at. and I don't like it!

i have a gigabyte p965-ds3 m/b and am running win7u.

i used to have much frustrations in "waking up" my pc after hibernation despite not allowing it to sleep at all via change plan settings. i didn't fiddle with the m/b bios as i didn't have this problem when i was running vista.

i don't know whether this has any bearing but when i deselect "set to auto-hide" in the taskbar, i can "wake-up" the pc by moving/activating the mouse. once i re-select "set to auto-hide", i cannot "wake-up" the pc after hibernation.

i am curious to know whether this is the solution but i don't have another pc to try.

hope i wouldn't be feeling like this - if it doesn't.

A:did i solve the "wake-up" pc problem?

Hello,

Certainly, you are on to something. There is a known link between auto-hide and sleep issues. As far as I know, there is no solution yet.

So I basically heard a "shut down noise" from my PC that lead to the blue screen. After I restarted it I only had, Repair system and Start Normally. There was no safe mode. I used build in system check and it stop on 50% on my hard-drive saying "biohd-8" error. I did a crc check in system repair, which seems to have fixed the problem... for now...

I would like to know if dump files can tell us what the actual reason for this was. Is my hard drive dying? I hope not.

Hi all My computer restarts every minutes or so seems to BSOD when doing something When I leave it idle doing nothing for hours I'm pretty sure it doesn't BSOD or restart Since installed it has been giving the dwwin exe error on startup have to click on it about times for it to go not sure if these issues & BSOD: dwwin.exe. "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" + "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area" are connected at all Originally it would just restart but now it's BSOD since I turned off quot BSOD: "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" & "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area" + dwwin.exe. automatically restart quot when system error occurs a day or two ago I have tried updating BSOD: "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" & "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area" + dwwin.exe. wireless network adapter drivers thats what I read resolved the problem seems other threads have said it can be resolved by uninstalling zone alarm but I don't have that installed Right now I'm running memtest on the system hasn't found an error in hours So yeah I have no idea whether its a hardware issue or a software conflict issue not sure where to go from here Any help much appreciated System info P Ghz Xp home GB RAM

For the past two days I've been getting BSOD while playing games been testing it on cs go and it crashes every time after about min or and while the computer is idle This mostly occurs while a game is open and sometimes the blue screen doesn't even come up the pc simply restarts which I believe is a sign of faulty ram and comes up with the pop up like it does when you get a BSOD after the pc reboots and it asks you to try and find a sollution It first occured when I upgraded to windows from win naturally I downgraded to win however the usb drivers became corrupt and therefore I had to clean install win After doing so the same problem occured giving a by BSOD "ntoskrnl.exe". and caused "dxgkrn.sys" BSOD with this in the dump file st crash Imgur The most awesome images on the Internet nd crash Imgur The most awesome images on the Internet the most recent in the dump files After seeing this I fresh installed windows again and the problem is still occuring Ive tried installing older graphic drivers however that made no difference im currently running the drivers that came on a cd with my BSOD caused by "dxgkrn.sys" and "ntoskrnl.exe". pc I've tried running memtest however the computer turns off the display and stays on for some reason the monitor goes blank and my backlit keyboard turn off leaving the pc in a state where it is on however when you just press the power button it turns off don't have BSOD caused by "dxgkrn.sys" and "ntoskrnl.exe". to hold it I've tried running it twice and both times it simply crashed After running the windows memory diagnostic tool I simply recieved a pop-up saying there is a problem with my ram and I should contact my pc manufacturer However before I start taking my RAM sticks out to see if they're faulty I'd like someone to have a look and tell me BSOD caused by "dxgkrn.sys" and "ntoskrnl.exe". that it isn't simply a faulty driver or a corrupt file Here are the dmp files Dump files zip Free File Hosting - File Dropper File Host for Mp Videos Music Documents Not sure if they're of any use but Here are my specs Imgur The most awesome images on the Internet Any suggestions as to the source of the problem or a solution would be greatly appreciated

Ok so I'm using a custom visual style made by another user however I don't really like the buttons used that I mentioned Changing of "minimize" buttons a theme and "close" "maximize" the above The creator states it is acceptable to change the theme to however you like Changing the "minimize" "maximize" and "close" buttons of a theme as long as you don't redistribute it anywhere Ok so I opened up the msstyles file using Restorator located in the theme folder of this VS I went into the images directory and located what seems Changing the "minimize" "maximize" and "close" buttons of a theme to be the images used for the buttons Intuitively it seems like it would make sense to replace those images with different ones perhaps from another visual style and it should change them However would this actually work Could the theme get messed up in some other way like proportions or something if the new button images are smaller I don't know of any other way to change them that would be easy But I did run into another problem For some visual styles I can't even locate those buttons in the images directory Where else would they be

I am using Windows 7 on my laptop and I have question about when to use "Home", "Work" and "Public" profile.

If I am logging in without setting password, and I am logging in network with "Public" profile, then will any other user, who can see my computer, be able to enter my computer and check the contents on my computer ?

I am connecting to a network and there are 6 other users connected to this network. In the set network location window, if I select the netwoek as "Home", does it mean that other 6 users will not be able to see my computer on network and if I use "Public", then all other six users will be able to see my computer on network ?

Thanks

W7 PC wakes up from sleep every few minutes. It didn't use to. I am the builder / owner / sole user. Investigation done so far at the DOS prompt to establish the cause:

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
(no results returned)

powercfg -waketimers
There are no active wake timers in the system

powercfg -lastwakeWake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 0Other ideas to try and establish the cause with please?

Many thanks.

A:Modem says to PC "WAKE UP!!!"

Go into the BIOS and disable everything that is Wake On (Wake On Ring, Wake On LAN)

This is a very common event and easily fixed.

I checked the bios, and the "Wake On Lan" feature is enabled, but when I go to Device Manager and open Network Adapter's properties, the "allow this device to wake the computer" is grayed out. Also I'm sure that I'm the one who disabled that feature in a previous build, because my PC randomly started on it's own. Now I need the WOL feature and it's grayed out.

A:Need Help Setting Up "Wake On Lan"

You need to tick the box "Allow the computer to turn off......", then the option will be available for you.

Ok i ve been having problems with a corrupted driver that is related to my video card DRIVER CORRUPT MMPOOL and IRLQ NOT GREATER OR LESS I got online and found a few fixes for them but before i could try the solutions the monitor started to refuse to wake up If the monitor has power but the other cord is unplugged i get a quot No connection quot box on my monitor but when i plug it into the vid card it goes black and the LED just blinks up" "wake won't Monitor The rest of the computer sounds like it is working like normal though the green LED on the computer that says its on is no longer working All the other LEDs work fine I took out the video card and put in an old one i had lying around and the exact same thing happened Im pretty sure i can fix the driver problems if i can just get the monitor working again Any help would be appreciated Specs listed below WinXP AMD Athlon DDR Soyo Monitor won't "wake up" Dragon Plus Motherboard Nvidia Geforce Ti Dell M Monitor Antec W switching power supply i was told this could be the problem since the system is under powered but its worked for a couple years on this setup and i havent made any hardware changes nbsp

A:Monitor won't "wake up"

If you completely power off the computer and turn it back on do you ever get anything on the monitor, like the BIOS screens or Windows loading? If not then its not a corrupt driver as it doesn't load that early.

Its either the power supply or the motherboard. Can you try another power supply? Also try reseating the RAM, if you have more then one stick, try them one at a time.
