Freezing during anomalous times very random.

Q: Freezing during anomalous times very random.

i dont know where to post this really since i didnt find the crash section.

was playing cs:go and the whole thing froze up. and i couldnt ctrlaltdelete or ctrlesc or anything to unfreeze it. and i might think its cause i have 1 hdd that is failing all the time wich might inflict this freezing on my system.
a "bugged" hdd. and i want to find it so i can replace it with a functioning hdd.

i hear from time to time that a hdd write header is clicking and have heard it for a long time and i think it makes my system unstable.

how do i find which one it is?

Preferred Solution: Freezing during anomalous times very random.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello .
Failing hardware is always a pain , you can follow these steps to figure out the condition of your HDD.
But I would make a backup of anything you can't afford to lose as it sounds as if the HDD isn't going to
continue functioning for very long.

Testing the HDD:
Perform a Disk Check | Disk Check
Then Post the results following | THIS METHOD
Download SeaTools for Windows if you don't want to use a CD to test the HDD you can use YUMI – Multiboot USB Creator to create a bootable USB (instructions are found at the bottom of both pages).
If SeaTools for Windows is unable to recognize your HDD visit HDDdiag and follow the instructions.

Been getting this error for quite awhile now when doing random stuff. My latest crash was watching Twitch.tv & Playing CIV 5. Other times, it's just when I leave my computer on and it hasn't done anything in a while, and other times happens when I listen to music or watching a video.

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Hello Wesley, welcome to SF!

There are no dumps in there. Please have a good look at the second post here:
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

While waiting and testing for a new crash that should produce a dump, please check the following:

1. Re-seat your RAM. there is a slight diff between physical and installed and AFAIK, in your case I would not expect that. We might do a RAM test later on.

2. Fix these driver / devices issues:

HTML Code:
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller PCI\VEN_1033&DEV_0194&SUBSYS_84131043&REV_03\4&1D7623A1&0&00E2 The drivers for this device are not installed.
PCI Simple Communications Controller PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C3A&SUBSYS_844D1043&REV_04\3&11583659&0&B0 The drivers for this device are not installed.
Shrew Soft Virtual Adapter ROOT\VNET\0000 This device is disabled.
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller PCI\VEN_1033&DEV_0194&SUBSYS_84131043&REV_03\4&DDEC341&0&00E1 The drivers for this device are not installed.
Go your Devices screen and either find drivers or disable these devices...
I also expect you have problems with Windows Update. Multiple errors in your logs on that. Please go to Maintenance center and make sure you install all updates. ALL?? Yes, ALL. If needed there is a good tutorial on resetting WU.

You may have some issues on Bonjour services from Apple stuff. We see that some times and though not in the past two days but before that there were many errors there.

Post back any results please..

1. Since you're running Windows 7, try use the built in Relliability Monitor to help you detect for any known issues. http://www.pcoptimizationsecrets.com...ility-monitor/
2. have you tried to disable the anti-virus and third party firewall programs?
3. Check if you have two NICs enabled. I had similar problem recently with my system appeared frozen and CPU was only taking up 30%. After some testing and fiddling around I found it wa because I had both NICs enabled and one was giving me a problem.

For odd reasons, my computer likes to freeze when I'm doing anything.

The basic programs that I have running when it freezes:
Firefox
iTunes
Crimson Editor

I'm using a new eMachines, and it has an AMD 64-bit processer. I have lots of memory too. 512 mb.

So if anyone knows of any fixes, please let me know.

A:Computer Freezing at Random Times

Sometimes computers like to lock up because of overheating, but that usually happens in games and not with simple stuff like iTunes or Firefox.

To be on the safe side, you could download Hijack This and upload a log file and have someone who knows what they're doing (I'm staying out of this one lol) have a look at the log for you.

Download Hijack This from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTSetup.exe
Save the setup file on your desktop
Double click on it and by default it should install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This
Continue through the setup and have it create a desktop icon for you
Follow all the prompts, click Finish, and have it start Hijack This
Click the "Do a System Scan and Save a Log File" option
Save the log file and then it should open with Notepad
Go to Edit, Select All and then Edit, Paste to paste the contents of the log here
Make sure you DO NOT fix anything with Hijack This yet. Most of the things in the log are normal or required.

I just built my new computer, and about 15 minutes after starting everything up and getting windows working, it will freeze and make a non stop beeping noise.

like it's flatlining or something.

Also Sometimes when I turn on my computer it will say "Insert Bootable disk or restart...So I have to go into the bios and do "Load Optimal Settings" in order for it to start up vista.

So what might be causing it to freeze and why is my harddrive not being seen sometimes?

Who's the manufacturer of your card?

In any case, you should go to that website..and download/install the latest drivers for your card and O/S.

If you've done this already, let us know.

A:BSOD random times and freezing at startup

Did I forget to add some details? I believe I followed the directions and added the correct file.

Anyway, I got two new BSOD today. Last night, I shut down my computer normally. When I started my computer today, I got a BSOD before it even got to the welcome screen.
It says BAD_POOL_HEADER stop: 0x00000019 I've attached a picture for the full message.

I restarted the computer and it booted to the desktop but then froze. I restarted again but it froze on the welcome screen. So I restarted one more time and I got a BSOD before it even got the desktop. It said: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop: 0x0000000D1 Also attached a picture.

I restarted yet another time and this time it gave me an option to repair. I selected that and then I left the room. When I got back, it was on the desktop and here I am now. I would really appreciate some help with this.

My computer has been freezing for a while and I haven't thought anything of it until recently when it started to freeze multiple times a day. Sometimes I would be doing something and other times I wouldn't be doing anything and it would just freeze. I've searched but I don't know what the problem is. All I know is that the light that blinks orange whenever I'm doing something goes away. Please help I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

A:Computer freezing constantly random times

The very first issue can be that your system is running beyond it's hardware specifications. This occurs when getting too numerous programs running at the same time. If the amount of RAM in your system cannot handle it then your computer will freeze. The simple solution for this is to run fewer programs or buy additional RAM.

Some folks ask - what if windows 7 crashes when I only run a particular program? In this case you might need to update your drivers or system. Often times compatibility issues could cause your computer to freeze up. You can check the Microsoft Windows website for the latest updates.

If windows 7 freezes at random, then this problem should be relates to the registry. When the Windows registry is full of errors it can stop your system from properly running. The registry contains the information of your computer which is used to communicate between the OS, software, and hardware devices. When the registry becomes congested with errors, the communication procedure breaks down.

The recommended solution for this sort of Windows 7 freezing would be to clean the registry of corrupt files and various errors. Not just will this prevent pc crashing, it will also speed up your system considerably.
Also, take a look at this site for some more information:

I hope this helps!

HP desktops nbsp for the last years and have never nbsp encountered anything like this nbsp A search on the web really didn't bring anything up nbsp I believe it may be defective hardware but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions before going that rout nbsp Thank you all in advance for any suggestions nbsp

Hello,

It all started when I start hearing ads in the background, but without any windows present.
I started to scan my computer and blue screen started to show. Through persistence, I was able to scan my computer thoroughly, which took longer than usual about ~10hrs and did find traces of infection.

As of now, I am not certain if my computer is still infected because I still tend to experience strange behaviors including slow or no internet at random times even though there is a working internet connection.

If someone could help me tackle this issue, it would be great!

Cheers,
Lava

Hello, I wanted to know if someone could help me try and figure out why my pc is freezing at random times. I bought it new from Best Buy 3 days ago. I tried looking up the model of my computer on Google but couldn't find anything relevant. I did come across this one forum though by doing a general Google search for Asus desktop freezes:

COMPLETELY FREEZE WINDOWS 7 64 bit asus g73 desktop

The person responding in that thread said it might have something to do with adjusting memory frequencies in BIOS. I'm not sure how I would go about doing this and don't really want to damage my computer, or even if this is what I need to do. But if someone would guide me in the right path on what I should be doing, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Take it back to BestBuy and ask to exchange it. If they don't want to allow that, ask to talk to a manager. AFAIK, BestBuy has a 14 day exchange policy.

My toshiba laptop will seem to just randomly freeze up whenever it feels like, the periods between freezes can vary anywhere from 5 minutes to 3 or 4 hours so its completely random and it does not seem to happen when I'm doing a specific task, I can be watching a video, browsing the internet or even just using the desktop and it can do it. I've run various scans but nothing has come up and I'm almost at my wits end so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello Everyone,

I have used the resources on these forums many times and have come to appreciate the benefit it provides to me as a user. This is my first post as I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

Windows is freezing randomly with no BSOD. Often at the log-in screen, but other times as well. The fan is still running so I assume it isn't a power issue. One other thing to note that if I do have audio playing, I will have a persistent ugly sound until I force shutdown.

This is what I have done so far:Replaced the motherboard battery
Run Memtest86
Updated video card driver
Ran Driver Verifier Enable process as described here

I'm still at a loss.

Any help is appreciated.

A:Freezing occurs at random times, no BSOD, Dell XPS 435T

freezing means bad sectors. replace hard disk is only solution. or change partition while installing OS
do you install antivirus with daily updates?

if motherboard battery is problem, you computer wont get display? you wasted your money on buying battery....

Hello I have been having bsod issues for a while now and I think the computer freezing and - minute start up computer times, start at BSOD random freezing, up slow times are all closely related The machine is a custom build but I don't have access to the one who built it The machine has been like this since BSOD at random times, computer freezing, slow start up I got it but haven't thought much about it until recently I've tried optimizing the startup by going through and modifying the startup programs like is the first step to do in getting a better start up speed but no success I've taken it to an IT place where they ran antivirus stuff against it and that didn't help much either I don't know what further information I need to post here so please let me know what I can do to get a reasonable start up time and stop having freezing issues seems to be a driver related thing not sure and get rid of these bsods Note After running the bsod program it takes a while but the generated zip file has nothing in it

This is my custom build computer of 4 - 5 years. The past year or so i keep getting random BSOD. There are times right after i do a windows update, the very next day my computer will crash. I am running the latest nvidia drivers, and also run windows update. Some times the error says Memory Management, or ntfs.sys, fltmgr.sys. I did a memory test and it passes. I also tested hdd for errors. I really can not take getting all of these BSOD. Right now, it is happening about 3 times per week. At times i am using my computer and other times it is at night when it is locked. I have not added anything to my computer since it was born 4 - 5 years ago. I also do not overclock or mod anything.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

edit
Forgot to add that sometimes when my computer BSOD, i am not getting the log dump files.

Hi, I have started getting BSODs twice a day at random moments on my computer in the last 4 days. I've tried to figure out the reason for the BSODs but I'm not sure.

I often get the * Hardware failure * bsod. Now I know these can be caused by a number of things, so that is why I included with this post the SF Diagnostic Tool zip attachement so you can help me figure this out.

I consider my knowledge of computers (overclocking, hardware maintenance and debugging) at a decent level, so it shouldn't take much help before we fix this. I just need someone to point me in the right direction.

Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest

Hi. I get a BSOD on my computer at most, twice a day. I am not sure what causes it as it happens at random times in the day.
I have attached the SF Diagnostic File if that helps.
Thanks,

Welcome to the forum.

Kaspersky contributes to BSOD's. Please remove it for testing purpose. Use Microsoft Security Essentials.

Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other security software:

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Malwarebytes - Free

Good and Free system security combination.

Reduce items at start-up: Startup Programs - Change

Perform a clean boot: Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable!:-

I've been plagued by odd problems since making this custom build about a month ago but the latest is the increasing frequency of BSODs They never occur at load gaming with high end specs but often occur at shutdown forcing a restart before random drivers random memory at seemingly times, blaming BSOD dump I can then actually shut down I normally boot into windows in - seconds SSD but the latest post-BSOD boot took about five minutes from typing my BSOD at seemingly random times, memory dump blaming random drivers password into the login screen to where my desktop popped up A subsequent reboot was at normal speed The memory dumps always include the NT OS kernel but then also some other driver different each time which I suspect just happens to be the one trying to run at the time of the error Things I've tested Temperatures didn't really suspect them in the first place but I'm running cool Memory Both the native Windows test and memtest found no issues Hard drives chkdsk came back clean BSOD at seemingly random times, memory dump blaming random drivers All drivers are up to date although the uploaded report might show an older version of my sound card driver as I just reinstalled it at BSOD at seemingly random times, memory dump blaming random drivers the behest of windows action center which didn't make the notification go away mind I'm hoping someone wiser than I can make sense of this because it all seems so random to me Thanks in advance to whoever that is

I'd suggest you take them in the following manner:

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Quote:
The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.*Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.*If RAM stick #2 passes, th... Read more

Hi all first off thanks for reading this Basically my current build is about - years old the newest thing being my PSU which I replaced after several issues with the GPU drivers constantly crashing turns out it wasn't the power anyway For the past few weeks I've been having issues with it At one point the computer refused to start it would power up but the k b and mouse lights wouldn't turn on I seem to have solved it by moving my RAM slot looks to be buggered I kept random BSODs, messages. Random times, error on getting BSODs at random times and different messages I could be playing watching a movie or even letting it sit idle and it'd BSOD Temps for both the CPU and GPU are fine GPU hits about and CPU tops off at roughly C when stress testing I tried running Prime Furmark no crash funnily enough BSODs, Random times, random error messages. Done the RAM tests passes BSODs, Random times, random error messages. on both sticks no issues The error messages I've gotten are Bad Pool Header Memory Management System Service Exception The most frequent one is the Memory Management one I'm at my wit's end here I've updated my Mobo drivers GPU etc I'm hoping that someone might be able to make heads or tails of the problem and give me an idea of what to do

A:BSODs, Random times, random error messages.

Forgot to attach the dumps. Here are the most recent dumps.

The one labeled "Dumps" are just the minidumps I pulled directly from the folder.

The second one is the log created by that DM Log Collector program.

No DMPS in upload

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

A:Random BSOD errors happening at random times

Hello, welcome to SevenForums!

I have taken a look at your provided dump files. There are tons of memory management and memory corruption errors. Before we continue, if any of your hardware is overclocked, PLEASE reset your clocks to stock for diagnostic purposes.

First off, before we continue onto memory.... in your drivers list I noticed you have sptd.sys listed, which is the driver for Daemon Tools. Please uninstall Daemon Tools from your system as it's known to cause many issues in the Windows 7 environment. Once you've done so, restart and then run DuplexSecure's sptd uninstaller to fully remove sptd.sys from your system. After you've done so, restart again.

Next, tons and tons of memory management and memory corruption errors as I've said earlier. Please read the following thread to download and install Memtest to test your memory for any bad sticks.

That is your Graphics card. Please download the latest WHQL or and earlier WHQL driver if you have the latest. Then uninstall your current drivers, after that follow this tutorial Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling and select ATI Display Drivers only. Then install the new driver you just downloaded, but this time select custom install, only install the things you actually use and need. The only think you actually need is the Display Driver, you do not need CCC. Try that and see if it is any better.

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPD pass through remover.
Uninstall Daemon ToolsDownload the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
Double click the executable to open itClick on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

   Information
Please download from this site only http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you may have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes in the same session to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

My PC keeps crashing and i have no idea why.

A:BSOD at random times caused by random drivers

Dont use a BETA display driver.

Uninstall the installed display driver using DDU. Then install the CCC 14.4 WHQL only.

Also Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Let us know for any further BSOD after doing these two.

Hi First I d like to apologize for not attaching any logs I m not sure if my problem is Anomalous on computer activity a legitimate concern and I was hoping to get an initial opinion before downloading any programs or posting any logs I m a bit paranoid about posting these logs online is there any information in them that would compromise my computer s security Lately I ve been noticing some unusual behaviour from my computer the strangest of which happened a few days ago I found that whenever I would leave my computer idle when I returned it would ask me for a username and password something it had never done previously The username was already provided but the password field was blank I tried a few routine passwords I Anomalous activity on computer use but was eventually able to get passed the screen by just leaving the password field blank and pressing okay In addition to this my computer now immediately logs into my profile when I start up my computer rather than asking me to select it there s only one profile The day before these two changes happened I downloaded two video editing related programs fraps and handbrake that seemed legitimate and I think during the installation of handbrake I was forced to download net framework I think I Anomalous activity on computer previously had I also ran a disk error checking which I hadn t done for a while Another anomalous behaviour I ve noticed over the past little while is that my virus scan avg always reports that my last scan was quot not yet scanned quot despite that I scan pretty regularly Is any of this cause for concern I m running windows xp nbsp

DCP Watchdog, Memory Management, Kernel Security Failure and several others at random times - especially during large file transfers between drives. I did a memory test and it stated there was an issue but I removed the culprit and the random BSOD continues.

Thanks for your help

A:BSOD at Random Times for Random Reasons

Have you rerun the memory test? If so, did it pass?
Have you run other hardware diagnostics? Here's a link to the one's I suggest (and they're free): Hardware Diagnostics Start with the hard drive tests as this involves "large file transfers between drives"

You have 3 or 4 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

Lot's of Windows Updates failures in the WER section of the MSINFO32 report. If the problems continue, please post over in the Windows Updates & Activation - Windows 8 Forums for further expert assistance with this issue.

Out of 5 memory dumps there were 4 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- dirt/dust/hair/fur/crud inside the case. Blow out the case/vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or vacuum as they can cause damage to the system)
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

One of the memory dumps points to USB issues. What do you have connected to the USB ports on your system?

Please uninstall the Western Digital software from the system. The wdcsam64.sys driver dates from 2008 and is known to cause BSOD's on some systems.

Please post back with the results of the hardware diagnostics and we'll move on from there.
While waiting for a reply, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my computer. I've had only had 2 bluescreens so far, but I'm rather concerned. The first bluescreen was when I just pulled the charger from my computer. The second time was right after I plugged in my charger. I have a new battery.

I have attached all the bsod files below. Thanks in advance.

MSINFO32:

Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.

A:BSOD (random ones at random times) Windows 7

Had a look through your dumps and all of them blame a various core windows driver for the crash, as this cannot truly be the cause then some further testing will be required
Initially I would run an sfc scan to check for any corruption within windows itself SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Next I would run memtest to perform a thorough test of the RAM, preferably overnight for a minimum of 8 passes SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I notice you have no windows updates installed, it would be good to get this done as missing SP1 means you are a long way behind

Depending on the outcome of these will determine what else needs to be done but as the problem has transcended to a new HDD & OS then more hardware testing is likely

Hi,
I am getting BSODs at random times, while doing different things each time. Been getting them for 5 days trying to narrow down what could be causing it. Searching lead me here. I did the posting instructions. Also did sfc/scannow 2 times that was suggested on another post. After the scannow both times it told me there were corrupt files that it couldnt fix. Any help moving on from here would be great.

Thank you.

The other day, I installed Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista. Since about 2 days after I did, applications have started freezing randomly. I'm not sure it's the SP that's doing this to me though, cause it was a few days after I installed it and not right away. In Task Manager, there are less processes, which is weird. I could be doing anything and the application will freeze out of nowhere and I have to restart my computer to fix it. It's a hassle because sometimes I'm in the middle of something and it does this to me. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anybody know if there is a fix for it?

A:Random applications freeze at random times

This can be caused by a host of different things.

Here's what I would do first:

1. Scan for viruses or any type of malware.
2. Update all of my drivers for my network card, video card, sound card.
3. Uninstall any programs I either don't need or don't recognize in Add/Remove programs

Has been happening on and off for the last couple of months, strangely enough the problem went away once after we had a power surge but has now returned, Usually get at least 1 a day at a random time ( Maybe a game, maybe on youtube, maybe just right clicking a folder )

Took a photo of it last time and got this error code,

*** STOP: 0x0000001e (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

After a bit of searching this forum i found i should also post a dump log from C:\Windows\Minidump ... When trying this i keep getting an access is denied message but i have admin privileges ?

Should also add that i have read about faulty drivers/ software and ran software to "fix" the problems yet i still get the BSOD.

Will try and get the dump log on for my next reply but any ideas straight off the bat ? Seems to be quite a common problem.

Anthony

A:BSOD, Random times on Random days

Welcome aboard, Chovies.

Post it, following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions so that we can get adequate information to help you.

My system has been extremely unstable since the last Windows updates about a week ago. Kaspersky Internet Security stops and restarts. Firefox, Outlook, World of Warcraft, etc crashing frequently. BSOD several times a day. I come to my desk and the logon screen is often there indicating the system crashed and rebooted while I was out.

This is very atypical for my system. I often go weeks without rebooting or having any program crash. I have noticed two error messages in the BSOD. One was memory management and the other was bad pool header. I suspect there have been others, but I'm not present every time Windows crashes.

Win7 Pro 64bit retail original OS on this system. I built this system about 6 months ago and it's been running very well until a week or so ago. Suggestions gratefully accepted.

A:BSOD at random times doing random things

One of the memory dumps in the WER section of MSINFO32 blames Kaspersky (as do 2 of the 9 memory dumps). Please do the following:

Quote:
Anti-Virus Removal:
Please do the following:
- download a free antivirus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus
- uninstall the antivirus software from your system (you can reinstall it, if so desired, when we're done troubleshooting)
- remove any remnants of the antivirus software using one of these free tools: Antivirus Uninstallers
- IMMEDIATELY install and update the free antivirus
- check to see if this fixes the BSOD's
NOTE: NEVER run more than 1 anti-virus, firewall, Internet Security/Security Center application at the same time.

Older versions of Acronis are known to cause BSOD's on Win7 systems also. Your copy has drivers that date from 2007. As such you MUST uninstall it.

In the table below is a list of drivers. Please update or remove the programs associated with any drivers dated from 2009 or earlier. Below the table is a list of links to more information about the drivers (it'll help you find out what programs belong to the drivers in question).

If all of that doesn't fix it, then please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

It's been over three months and I am still struggling with multiple BSOD.

I wish I were more able to fix this but, I am not.

If anyone will review to possibly help with this I appreciate it more than you know.

Spent over 2400$ on a new system and it's not gone long without BSOD or often just locking up requiring a restart.

New file created for diagnostics and uploaded.

A:BSOD random times, with random errors.

Pwnsesh mate don't quite fully understand what you mean by updating your driver?? There are a few in a system so which one ??

Also what are you doing with the BIOS?? It is something best left well alone unless you know what you are doing. Before you do anything I would back up the registry and any data you need.

hi SF gurus,

i have a homebuilt computer, ASUS P6T6 mobo with 6x2 GB of RAM, Intel Core i7 CPU. i ran memtest86+ 4.20 and observed the following: although all 6 2 GB memory sticks are seen and listed on the memtest screen, it says i only have 8 GB of total memory. yet, when the tests were run, instead of going up to 12 GB, or stopping at 8 GB, it tests up to 9216 MB and then goes on to the next test, in every case. no errors were reported, but does this indicate there actually *is* a memory problem? also, given that no errors were reported up to 8 (actually 9) GB, can i assume that the problem is in sticks 4 or 5 (or the corresponding slots on the motherboard)?

thanks in advance for any thoughts.

A:Memory problems -- memtest86 gives anomalous results

Definitely worth investigating. A simple solution would be testing the RAM modules one at a time instead of all together.

If each one passes without errors, then take one and test it in each slot successively.

Then test two together, then (let's say) four and then all six, each time keeping an eye on the reported amount of memory and the actual amount tested. Does the issue return?

A:Newly built computer random freezing and freezing on starting windows

Hello Skytri and welcome to Seven Forums. My usual disclaimer: I'm not at expert at anything.

I'm wondering if there isn't a RAM problem. Perhaps one of the sticks wasn't seated properly, etc. You could open Resource Monitor > Memory tab and make sure all RAM is being recognized. Make sure Installed = 16384MB and the Available + Cached + Hardware Reserved is the same amount. (You are using 16GB total, correct?)

Resource Monitor

If Memtest freezes you could try a quick check for a bad RAM module. Install one stick in Slot # 1 (or whichever slot the mobo manual says to use.) Run the computer to test for freezes. Test each of the remaining sticks one at a time. If all 4 sticks work you might want to go through these troubleshooting guides. They are time consuming but many people have been able to isolate their computer problems.

Hello,

I'm going to post two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart
My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.

I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.

I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen and I have no higher computer knowledge.

I'm attaching the zip file required.

Thanks,

A:Random Computer Freezing - Need to hard restart after freezing No BSOD

Wow, this sounds like the same thing that happened to a friend of mine when his hard drive was failing. Replaced the drive and the freezes went away. Even the buzzing noise.

Also you may need to look at what drivers you may have just install/updated.

Hoping you don't have any failing hardware "Motherboard, video card, etc". Those are expensive

A:very very random crash during random times...

Do you use Windows Live Mail?

I ask because the same sort of thing would happen to me, but I was able to trace it to that program. It had an especially nasty quality of freezing right when I opened it as well as freezing while I watched videos.

Well I frequently get random BSOD's when I am surfing the net. I never download anything and am very careful when running .exe's.

I got one BSOD prior to creating this thread and then as I was creating it I got another!

Anyways, I have attached the dump files to this thread.
Thanks in advance to whoever chooses to help me

I wonder if Avira is causing the issue. Please remove it with this tool: http://www.avira.com/en/documents/ut...ninstXPeng.zip

Replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials: www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.

I have recently replaced the ram in my rig (4gb ddr2 667mhz) with 8gb ddr2 800mhz and was randomly experiencing BSOD's. done some searching, and decided to "underclock" the ram to 667. this helped for a while until a recent restart of the pc. Ran memtest86+ on both speeds (667 & 800mhz) and only got errors (8) on the 800mhz speed, and not exactly sure why. I have attached a dump file (not sure if I did it correctly) to this post if its any help at all. any help would be appreciated. thanks

A:random BSOD's at random times

Chuck if you got errors then mate you need to get the RAM replaced - it wouldn't matter if it were one or one hundred errors the RAM is still faulty.

Hello. I built a PC two days ago and today I have had 4 BSOD's so far and I fear there will be more of them.

Today, the 28th, I've have 4 or 5 bsods and most, if not all, have had the 0x109 stop code.

Hi, I'm really hoping to solve the problem since it's starting to distract seriously. I think since early summer BSODs been flashing now and then and now more and more often. Naturally I've tried memory solutions found online for memory related BSODs but now the different causes seems overwhelming.
Don't have the skills to work this out so I need your help.

system:
Win 10 home 64bit (reinstalled some time ago, did help while, but not so sure how clean install that was)
i5-4430 (not overclocked)
Ram 8GB 1333 (XMP off, wont boot when on) (tried higher voltage)
R9 390X (not overclocked) (drivers reinstalled with DDU)

Hello Im new here so bare with me I built my custom pc a year ago now Since day one iv been experiencing BSOD At first it happened during or just after the first boot up of that day and was always Memory Management error Soon after i upgraded my ram from gb to gb After doing this the BSOD stopped happening as frequently but started to happen more randomly My Bsods were very unusual i couldnt find anything like it online instead of the blue screen i got a pink and blue or a green and blue screen and was very difficult to make out what it said but i could usually make out the error For some strange reason i started to get other errors such as IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL PFN LIST CORRUPT PAGE-FAULT-IN-NONPAGE-AREA SYSTEM THREAD-EXCEPTION and BAD POOL HEADER I random at BSOD Random times downloaded BlueScreenView to see what he problem was and they were nearly always Random BSOD at random times caused by ntoskrnl driver and sometimes atikmdag driver Ithen upgraded my GPU and the BSOD continued to happen but i got the normal fully blue screen and the Random BSOD at random times green and blue or pink and blue screens stopped happening I never get a BSOD during gaming its nearly always either internet browsing or low level tasks or sometimes at boot up I dont know if this is related but my browsers crash quite frequently too In the last few months i thought i had fixed the problem by fixing my ram speed because they were running at a weird speed and once i put it back to mhz it stopped happening any where near as frequently BSOD has become much rarer but i sometimes go through a few days where it might become more frequent and then mightened happen again for a week Iv been searching and trying to fix this for over a year and im startin to give up Thanks in advance

Hi. . .

Welcome to TSF.

We have had a few threads similar to yours recently that you may want to look over - there are 2 that I can recall off hand -

In the interim, I would be glad to look at the software end of things to see if anything appears questionable. Please download the attached zip file and extract the batch and exe files to your desktop.

Go to your desktop, right-click on the batch file and select run as administrator. You will see the black "DOS" screen appear and scroll, the green status bar screen then the AutoRuns viewer screen - let it scan (look on bottom-left for status - "scanning..."). When AutoRuns is finished, the screen will close. The batch job will take several minutes to run. It will dump the app and system logs, run AutoRuns, msinfo32, dxdiag, driver listings, etc...

The output will be in a new folder found within your documents folder named TSF_Vista_Support.

Zip the contents of the new folder up and attach to your next post.

Any ? - please let me know.

Regards. . .

Hi I realise there are lots of posts like these but I've tried updating lots of drivers but am not having any luck with stopping any of the freezing I just recently installed Windows RP straight from windows where I had no problems at all but now it freezes every hour or so and it doesn't seem to be from overheating either so I assume it is drivers or something similar I used the log collector from the BSOD sticky thread to obtain the attached logs hopefully this is what I am meant to do even though I didn't in fact get a BSOD It has taken me about minutes after it froze to get the event logger etc so hopefully that hasn't made the log defunct I don't really know how it works The attached file is also missing the IEDiag cabinet file because it was too big to fit in an attachment on these forums Thanks for any help in advance

I have a very unique and hard to explain "fix"... When I play video using splayer the system does not crash, freeze or hang...ever. its really weird because I cant explain it but somehow compared to when I don't have splayer open it seems better. maybe you can try to duplicate it but it "works" for me so...

For the record I now how a legit copy of Windows XP which I've just done a fresh install and updated up to SP3.

I will be playing team fortress 2 and suddenly get several second stutters like the HD is chugging or something. It specifically happens when there is some action on the screen.

It also happens when I am watching steaming video. The video will stop for a couple of seconds while the audio continues and when the vid starts again it jumps to meet the audio.

Also when I am scrolling down with the mouse it will get jammed for a second or two then jump down.

Another thing I just noticed while writing this is when I type that too will jam for several seconds then jump.

What's going on here?

Like I say fresh install and it didn't happen before on my previous install. My drivers are all updated (all the common ones).

I have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
Since a week suddenly the boot times have increased a lot. Even during running the computer freezes at times and then comes back to normal.
I have removed temp files, removed firewall software, scanned for virus and malware but no difference. Removed each ram one by one (2x2Gb) and checked but no change. The event viewer does not load at times and when it does or shows some errors in system log at boot up. The errors seem to be different each time. Still have some doubt on ram. As I type this on my mobile, the computer is stuck on welcome screen without any option to log on. Now what? I had tried system repair from windows repair option at startup but it gave some error "instructions at ...referenced memory at.... Memory could not be read."

A:Very slow boot and freezing at times

These symptoms are typical of a failing hard drive. Your primary concern now is the safety of your data. You need to backup your data ASAP using a live Linux CD or USB device or atach the drive to another computer. Of course you should have such a backup anyway. After your data is secure you should obtain the drive diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer to test the drive. If bad it must be replaced.

Hello, for the past week or so my Toshiba Satellite C655 running Windows 7 Home Premium sp1 64-bit has begun randomly freezing several times a day. The cursor continues to blink, and if I’m playing music it continues to play, but the laptop does not respond to any keyboard inputs or touchpad moves, no matter how long I wait. Eventually, I must force reboot the machine.

I was advised to check Event Viewer, and when I do, I see several entries corresponding with each freeze, but I’m not sure how to interpret them. I have run Malwarebytes and quarantined found objects, but that has not solved anything. If anyone has any advice for other steps I can take to begin troubleshooting this issue, I would greatly appreciate it!

A:Computer inconsistently freezing 3-4 times in a row.

Random freezes are difficult to troubleshoot. I would write down what you were doing when it froze
this might pin point a cause. Even when nothing appears to be happening something is. When the freeze
occurs goto event viewer and note any errors. In the mean time make sure all drivers are up to date and
windows has all upgrades.

I would make sure the video driver is updated. A computer will look frozen if the video doesn't work at the time.

A:Vista Freezing after Varied Times

Hi jbear555,

Let?s try few troubleshooting steps to check if issue gets resolved:

1. Try a clean boot to check if it would work, providing the link to do a clean boot for reference: How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
2. Go to safe mode and check if you get same error message. Please use the following link for detailed instructions to go safe mode: Safe Mode
3. Run Microsoft fix-it for slow performance issue and check if the performance improves, here is the link for fix-it: Fix Windows system performance problems on slow Windows computers
4. Try to perform SFC scannow and check if it fixes any corruption, please use the following link for detailed instructions: System Files - SFC Command

If issue persists, run the built-in diagnostics provided by the manufacturer on the computer to check if the hardware is working fine.

Please perform the steps mentioned above and post the results.

if it's still under warranty i would let them fix it . cause i think once you open the case you void the warranty leaving you stuck with all repairs.

I've been having intermittent freezing of my mouse most noticibly in Half-Life games My cursor would freeze for about second every minute and I decided to reformat freezing/random input Mouse spinning/random to get rid of the problem After reformatting the problem was still there and was even more pronounced The mouse wouldn't move at all Being a USB mouse I decided to use the included PS adapter and the problem developed into something else My mouse would freeze for seconds every minutes I suspected something was wrong with the mouse and not a driver issue so I booted into a linux partition and noticed that the mouse did not freeze at all while running Whoppix The latest drivers Mouse freezing/random spinning/random input from my mouse manufacturer Logitech did not Mouse freezing/random spinning/random input help While playing games I set developer to quot quot in Half-Life and noticed that the mouse was trying to send MOUSE and MOUSE button commands to the game during freezing My mouse does not even have th or th buttons After the freezing my cursor would also spin rapidly in random directions This problem began about week after I installed a new video card an EVGA Nvidia GT which requires a direct connection to the PSU via molex connector while my old video card did not However I do not suspect this is a power supply issue Also while registering for the forums on this site my mouse randomly inputed Mouse button causing my browser to go back one page

A:Mouse freezing/random spinning/random input

Half-life and its mods have started to take up a lot more memory - which causes your mouse to lock up or turn off. This is not Valves fault as many believe, but actually its your power management turning off your mouse. Also this has been happening to people in previous versions, and most have reformatted in an attempt to fix the problem.

There are two solutions to this problem

The first and best solution is to disable your computers ability to turn off your mouse:
USE: Right click on my computer, select properties, click on the hardware tab, click on device manager, expand USB Controllers, select properties on USB Root Hub, select power management and disable it

The second solution is to increase the process priority for your mouse drivers (if you use any).

Have fun. I still play 1.6 and will retire with 1.6 :D

A:Really Slow Wireless Connection/freezing At Times.

Log looks clean. When the wireless is slow, what is the signal quality? Low quality means low speed. As for freezing, it could be anything. Let's take a look a little deeper.Download Combofix to your desktop.

Doubleclick combofix.exe

Follow the prompts.Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang. When finished, and after reboot if it asks for one, combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a while so please be patient. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open called combofix.txt. Post the contents of this log in your next reply along with a new hijackthislog. Please do not post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask you to.

Most of the BSOD-s seem to be caused by the Marvell Drivers itself. Were they installed correctly?

Uninstall and reinstall in the following manner: Click on the Start ► Control Panel ► Programs ► Uninstall a program ► Uninstall everything related to; Marvell and restart the system. Delete remnants of its drivers/older drivers using Driver Fusion/Sweeper, restart again if required. Get latest drivers afresh from: Driver Reference Table

Stop overclocking if you are and uninstall this program:

Make sure all ram clock/speeds are the same and run memory test.

Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Guide to using Memtest86+ - Geeks to Go Forums

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.
Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.
If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.
If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.
4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all the other motherboard slots.

If Part 2 testing shows errors, and all tests in Part 3 show errors, you will need to test the R... Read more
