Preferred Solution: BSOD hell

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

bigge,
These crashes were caused by memory corruption.
Run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

You did say you have done Memtest....
What version & how many passes?
Please do it again as per below.
1-Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

2-Driver verifier

Quote:
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

A:BSOD Hell

If you are having problems in a Safe Mode boot the problem is likely hardware.

Have you tested the ram? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/715-memory-diagnostics-tool.html

If you cannot boot in Normal or Safe Mode, you will have to use the Advanced Boot Options menu. You might want to try a System Restore or Startup Repair from there as well.

Alternately you can create a bootable memory tester that runs completely outside of Windows (memtest86, see below)

You can also try physically removing all but one ram module, and swap those for individual module tests.

If you can get into Windows to upload the minidumps, they may be helpful >>

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to c:\windows\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder. *this assumes 'c' is your boot drive, if it is not, subsitute accordingly
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.
If you do not see any minidumps, be sure you are not using any cache cleaner such as CCleaner. Also run sysdm.cpl and select Advanced > Startup and Recovery. Make sure "small memory dump" is the one chosen under "write debugging information" and the location should be %systemroot%\minidump

Since almost all bugchecks can be caused by faulty ram, I would recommend you perform memory tests.

On Vista and Win7 you can run mdsched.exe -- once rebooted to the scanner press F1 for Advanced options and run the "extended" tests.

Another, some think better, program that can be used on all operating systems is memtest86

Hi folks - been recommended to register and ask for help here by a friend who found the forums very helpful. I have been having a wide variety of BSODs over the last few weeks - I have tried reverting and refreshing drivers, changing RAM, changing gfx card, pretty much everything short of building a new rig from scratch.

I have followed the instructions on using the diagnostic tool - the output from which is attached. I'd be very grateful for any advice!

Cheers

Hi Kilohotel.

A very frequent cause of stop 0x3B BSOD is the missing service pack. Install Service pack 1 and all other windows updates. Otherwise the system will remain vulnerable to threats including stop 0x3B BSOD.

Do you have any USB devices connected? I took a look at your minidumps. The first is a SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M and the details it contains seem to closely resemble this post: Another BSOD while Idle thread... - Windows 7 Help Forums

The second one is the KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, as you've listed above.

In both dumps, the underlying NTSTATUS code is the notorious 0xC0000005 (access violation). These are almost always the result of buggy drivers.

That said, the first order of business is to examine any USB devices attached to the system--external drives, mice, flash drives, security devices (i.e. ActivKey), scanners and yes, even a USB missile launcher. Are any of these using old drivers? A lot of devices use Microsoft OOB drivers, like external hard drives and flash drives. Some devices, however, require their own third-party drivers like mice or ActivKey security devices.

The post I provided a link to was suggestive of someone using an old driver with their Razer mouse.

Try disconnecting all USB devices and see how the system behaves. If all is well, connect devices one at a time. Let it sit for a while...if no issues, unplug it and move on to the next one. By process of elimination you should find the guilty party, and can then decide what course of action to take (i.e. upgrade the driver, replace the device).

Hi,

I believe that the culpriit is faulty ram. Reseat the ram to another memory slot and clean up the dust inside your computer.

Last month, I got problem with enthernet, then wireless, now what can it be? BSOD usually occured when i left my computer do nothing, may be just mozilla firefox is on but not downloading anythings. I'm getting mad with this type of errors.

A:BSOD again, what the hell is going on????

The probable cause of this crash was the NETw5s32.sys file corrupting memory. That file is part of your network driver.

You may want to
Install an updated network driver
to run that type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>SFC /SCANNOW
Run a memory diagnostic like memtestx86. Overnight if posisible.

Hello All.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 x64 from XP x64.  I have been getting many BSOD's

It started after I installed the flash plug in for Firefox. I would be on youtube for a while and then the BSOD would happen.  Sometimes there are no issues and there have not been lately.

Then I proceeded windows recommended updates after a clean install and the BSOD's would happen ranging from Bad_Pool_Headers,  Win32.sys.,  Page fault in non paged area ETC.  All the usual ones you veterans have run into.

Using the BSOD to view the memory dumps these are the drivers that have caused the problems.

Attached Pic.

I have also Posted my Speccy profile below.

I have no idea what is going on or how to fix this and I would appreciate any advice from the members.

If you need anymore info let me know I will provide it ASAP.

Thanks.

First time running a raid setup and one of my drives went straight to hell. I rebuilt the raid with another hard drive. Everything seemed fine for awhile but for the last two weeks I've been randomly receiving blue screens without consistent reasons in the visible portion of the report.

A:Mazdem's BSOD hell

Run hard drive diagnostics on ALL of the drives in the RAID array: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure
What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

Gigabyte's EasyTune6 (ET6) and EasySaver are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems. Please uninstall both of these programs from your system.

Out of 6 memory dumps there were 4 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hey guys I have a recurring issue with the BSOD on my laptop Based on visual cues I am guessing that this has something to do with my graphics card driver I have tried updating that driver but no help there I have attached the files that were asked for and would really love Win7 BSOD Hell some help so that I can finish my school semester The problem started several months ago and has gotten progressively worse I get the BSOD within minutes of booting up my laptop now To get around it I can disable the graphics card but then the laptop tends to overheat and shut down Thanks in advance for any insight that you can provide You're providing a great service here Regards Dan OS - Windows x Win is original installed OS OEM OS year old system OS never reinstalled CPU - Intel Core i M GHz Video Card - ATI Mobility Radeon HD MotherBoard - if NOT a laptop Power Supply - brand amp wattage skip if laptop Dell Exact model number Inspiron N Laptop

A:Win7 BSOD Hell

Your graphics card driver (atikmdag.sys) is the cause of the BSOD's. It's crashing and taking the DirectX subsystem (dxgkrnl.sys) with it.

What version of AMD/ATi Catalyst software suite are you using?

The last build and driver for that card is Catalyst 13.9 & Display Driver ver. 8.97.100.11 Here.

Note: This was during date/time period when these display cards and drivers was very problematic & when AMD took over Ati.

NOTE: I have severe eye problems. If I do not respond to your postings, please PM another staff member for assistance.

NOTE: Please provide the following information for a more detailed response: http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.html

Issues that we've seen with Asus M4 mobos:

Quote:

Just FYI - a recent poster (early Nov 2011) states that they were advised by Asus to manually set their memory settings/timings/voltages because of issues with the M4 series of motherboards.
You can get the settings/timings/voltages from the website of your RAM manufacturer.

Please run Driver Verifier according to these directions (after running the reports listed above):

Quote:

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Special Pool" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:

Code:
Delete these registry keys to stop Driver Verifier from loading (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel
More info on this at this link: Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Windows drivers for advanced users

So, let me start with saying that a day or so ago I noticed that I am getting phantom TAP-win32 adapters listed in my network connections that are all unplugged.
I use Citrix Receiver to connect to my work server so I thought these were generated by that software because I dont know any better.

TODAY, the it happened, I was playing some video games when all of a sudden BSOD after BSOD started raining from the sky, I had no choice but to .
I last usually about 10 minutes before I get a new one. They range from IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL to PFN_LIST_CORRUPT to BAD_POOL_CALLER. I dare not mouse over the start button or I crash every time.

I am attaching my most recent dmp files, please someone for the love of God help me.

I keep getting BSODs on my new system. This is quite literally a brand new, clean system, built from the ground up. The screens come at seemingly random times (even when the computer is sitting idle) as there is nothing we are doing the same each time. We have gone through and updated every last driver on the system (if there was an updated version). The memory test came back clean as well. This is driving us up the wall as it has happened too many times to count in the last 3 days (how old the system is). The .dmp files and perfmon report are attached as described. Please help!

I m a gamer and a major net addict but when it comes to the inner workings of my beloved hardware I don t have a me hell bit Vista 64 BSOD giving looping clue in hell I m not a complete dimwit but expansive responses would be much appreciated I Vista 64 bit giving me BSOD looping hell ve had this PC for about a year now and ever since I first had it it s been giving me nightmares It started with small browser crashes from watching Youtube vids to full BSOD ing from gaming and the like I ignored the BSODs Vista 64 bit giving me BSOD looping hell for a long while and after a handful of months the problem got out of hand My PC wouldn t crash if I kept it on or turned it on everyday as if it d remain alive if it were quot warmed up quot I went away on vacation for two months - meaning I turned it off - came back but it was stuck in a permanent BSOD loop and I was unable to boot from anything anywhere anyhow After two weeks of incessant attempts I finally got it back to its desktop and can not continuously turn it on with an success rate without BSODs I have googled to hell and back on this one and came to the slightly unsure conclusion it was from incompatible drivers But now I feel my PC is corrupted in some sense from the BSODs it s gone through The internet no longer works on it it s very sensitive to just about anything - file opening moving the cursor etc I turn it on everyday but it s incapable of doing anything and that includes reformatting with XP which I have tried desperately so very many times It just BSODs That s all it does Ever As I said the internet simply doesn t connect anymore even after many re-installation attempts and fumbling around with it so I can t directly download things to it but I can transfer from this archaic laptop I m using now assuming my PC won t become moody and BSOD Because that s what it does best I ve had just about every blue screen error in the book some of which don t even come up with results via google The error codes are so sporadic that they don t seem to matter anymore None of them were consistent Anyway I have a Gateway GT E Vista SP with NVIDIA GeForce nForce i video cards Standard stuff Any tips suggestions Where should I go from here Am I screwed I really really appreciate any responses I m desperate Thanks nbsp

Hello,

I have been getting random BSOD when my computer is running or it is idle, it really seems to have a mind of its own when it happens. I have done a disk check and have run memtest86 (5pass) and it came back with no errors.

The current setup I use is :
Intel Core i5-4670 [email protected] 3.40 GHz
Kingston Hyper x 1600(2x4GB) RAM
Gigabyte GTX 760 OC (Graphics card)
Gigabyte GA-Z87M-D3H (Mobo)
Corsair CX600M
Samsung SSD 250GB 840 EVO (Primary)
Seagate Barracuda 2TB Hard drive

The Samsung SSD is the primary drive I use for Windows and most of my files and the Seagate is used for larger files.

I just built this computer a few weeks ago, all parts are brand new.
I suspect it is a driver problem.

I would appreciate any troubleshooting help I can get on this.

Thank you!

Edit: It appears that I wrote Hello in my title by accident. Sorry.

If you have a full Macrium system image, you can use the Macrium boot CD and restore the image by following the path. I think a conflict RX Rollback/ Macrium WinPE.

Go here http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and download
Adaware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

I strongly recommend that you read the help file to familiarize yourself with the program.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on "Check for updates now" and download the latest referencefiles.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"

From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan (recommended)"

Click "Use custom scanning options" then click "Customize" and have these options selected: Under "Drives and Folders" put a check by "Scan within archives" and below that under "Memory and Registry" put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the "Tweak" button in that same window. Under "Scanning engine" select "Unload recognized processes during scanning" and under "Cleaning Engine" select "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

Click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the "Next" button.

When scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu and click "Next")

Restart your computer.

Then go here http://spybot.eon.net.au/index.php?lang=en&page=download and download Spybot Search & Destroy.

Install the program and launch it.

Before scanning press "Online" and "Search for Updates" .

Put a check mark at and install all updates.

Click "Check for Problems" and when the scan is finished let Spybot fix/remove all it finds marked in RED.

Restart your computer.

Be sure and take advantage of the "Immunize" feature in Spybot.

Finally go here http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=38;t=3051 for info on how to tighten your security settings and how to help prevent future attacks.
On this page you will find links to Javacool's SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard. Get them both and check for updates frequently.
The Immunize feature in Spybot used in conjunction with SpywareBlaster , SpywareGuard and weekly scans with Spybot and Adaware will go a long way toward keeping your PC free of these pests..

Important!: ALWAYS check for updated detections and referencefiles before scanning with Spybot and Adaware. And be sure to check for updates to SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard on a weekly basis.

A computer store near me has just put up some cheap RAM on its website. But there is a note about it which I don'nt fully understand! Anyone out-there know why is might not be compatible with "brand-name computers"

"A generic memory module to suit most DIMM-compatible computers. PC 133MHz.

Note: This memory module is generally not compatible with brand-name computers. We will not take the chance of supplying memory that may not be exactly suited for your machine, so if in doubt please email us with the following information. 1) Your Pc's model, 2) Your PC's brand, 3) Your PC's Megahertz/Gigahertz, 4) How much existing RAM you have, 5) How much RAM your looking for "

A:What the hell!!!

... it's a pretty much generic message/warning/disclaimer except for the Brand-name part.

Not every piece will work with every computer and you must use the correct type of RAM. Brand-name systems are generally the pickiest but maybe the RAM is exceptionally low quality and they are just trying to cover themselves.

Hi Guys,

Got a problem with the following and it's serious?!

Tried to install standard drivers for USB 3.0 ports on Asus P8Z68-V LX. It's bog standard with 32gb RAM, Win 7 64, 500gb SSD.

Ok, couldn't get the driver to install for the devices and assumed faulty on the board.. So..

Went and got me a Dynamode 4 port USB 3.0 PCI-e card, plugged it in and it too won't work??

Tried various driver updatin s/w and all checks out ok where it hasn't loaded it.

..really annoying.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Snowy

A:USB Hell!!

Try going to this Intel page, downloading the Driver Update Utility, and then see which drivers it offers. Install them, and see if this "cures" the USB issue.

Hi Hush, and Welcome to TSF -

As that process is not showing in your log, nor any malware for that matter, I'd like you to run some tools. As you've noted, that process can be linked to malware.

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running. Ad-Aware? SE Personal Edition
*Note* For Ad-AwareSE also install the VX2 Addon Cleaner To run this tool once Adaware is updated click on Add-ons in the lefthand column. Select VX2 Cleaner V2.0 and click Run Tool. Click "OK" , then, if something is found, click "Clean" as in the directions given. Click "Close", and exit Ad-Aware.

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'.
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. Do not run it yet.

*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Please configure CleanUp with the following settings:

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
[X]Scan local drives for temporary files (Please uncheck this option)
Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

Now open Ewido and do a scan on your system.

* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with Ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
o You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
o If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
o Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'
o If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now as the action.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Note: There is no need to purchase Ewido. It will remain as the freeware version after the trial period, which means the guard process will no longer work, but the scanner will be just as effective.

Reboot into normal mode now.

Download Trend Micro? Anti-Spyware (by clicking the "Scan and Clean your PC" button).Double-click the tmas-web-scan.exe icon
It will say "Loading TrendMicro definitions".
Click "Start Scan"
After... Read more

I just read (on Winsupersite.com) that the pre order/upgrades will NOT have a clean install option. This is outrageous. Does MS have no clue as to the goodwill re Win 7 has garnered them but how something exactly like this could destroy that? I have personally suggested to @ least 50 people to grab the pre order. What an A###*#* I feel like right now! This is the sort of thing Apple does.
I love Windows 7 and really had hopes they had learned their lessons from Vista beyond the OS ie price and a billion versions. At best I can only hope MS is testing the waters to see what they can get away with. Still a D-bag move. Epic fail.
Regretfully,
J23

A:What the Hell is MS Doing?

Pretty sure there are ways to do a full clean install with an update. It's been mentioned numerous times here.

Hello:

I am looking for somebody who can help deliver me to the pop-up-ad-free fun zone. I've researched some of the names I see and wound up here. Can I offer a HiJackThis log to somebody? Here are some of the culprits who have reared their ugly heads so far:

tech rookie here. I follow instructions well though. My inner piece of mind thanks you in advance.

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

Q: Oh Hell

Well so much for my computer getting better... Just tried to put in my new/not working graphics card loaded up the driver made coffee and came back to see that the computer had restarted had the " awsome" BLUE SCREEN up with error has occured and that it was erasing physical drive................................................
What the hell goes on with this bloody thing??????????
If i cant get it fixed this time it's off the balcony for you son.
Anyone know why this would happen. Oh by the way i'm on a mates computer until i can fix this.
Any help appreciated
Cheers Adam

A:Oh Hell

Are you sure you installed the latest drivers for your graphics card? This seems like a problem of corrupt or wrong drivers installed for the hardware. Check the vendor's website for latest drivers. Also shutdown your PC and remove the graphics and put it securely in its socket once again. It might sometimes happen due to loose connections..

Ok well the other day i downloaded what apeared to be an installer for a new bootscreen (cool) but it was a trojan. I found this out because when it was run BAM! AVG just started saying that it found all these trojans, great >_>. Well I did a full scan with avg in safemode apparently found all the stuff but now I know I have one because now everytime i use the internet AVG tells me I have more fun stuff. So i noticed that it was embedded in the system later today WINDOWS\temp, now it acted up at start up so I've tried panda it just wont GO AWAY. What do I do? And anothe problem i got some spyware (few) its like a security center, just sucks because it is what it is. Not sure what its called.
Oh and tell me if you would like a log

Ok i've heard of this problem a few times but never really experienced it I am not sure on the explanation but it has something to do with versions of dlls and sometimes programs replace hell Dll dlls with newer or older incompatible versions anways my two conflicting programs are gaim and blubster in windows Dll hell I hate aim because it isn't secure and its got ads so i use gaim and a friend told me to try blubster even though i really havent had a chance My problem When I open blubster it does something to zlib dll in my windows system folder and it makes it so that I can't start gaim Deleting zlib Dll hell dll causes both programs to work again Dll hell but is there anyway around this so I don't have to delete zlib every time i wanna use blubster and gaim AMD XP MSI KT Ultra DDR PNY Geforce ti Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Klipsch Lite-on x burner Asus x cddrive GB Harddrive Space Logitech Mx Ratpad and Navigator Windows XP Pro and Gentoo Linux

A:Dll hell

Quote:

My problem: When I open blubster, it does something to zlib.dll in my windows\system32 folder and it makes it so that I can't start gaim. Deleting zlib.dll causes both programs to work again but is there anyway around this so I don't have to delete zlib every time i wanna use blubster and gaim?

As long as both work without zlib.dll, then why reinstall it?

Ok...so I finally decided to do the service pack 2 patch. I had heard horror stories but also heard good things about it. So I had been putting it off but said, what the hell...what could go wrong? Well, I installed it and now windows won't start. When it starts loading it gives me the following message:

"The application on DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\shlwapi.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I tried booting the computer from the CD but it won't. I also made a DOS boot disk thinking making I can copy the DLL file that screwed up but it won't detect my C: drive.

Someboy please help me. This sucks. Now I"m stuck using my 5 year old 750 pc.

Thank you.

A:SP 2 Hell!!!!! Please help

Since you have access to your older computer put the XP cd in and create boot up floppies for XP and then try re-installing XP.

I recently built a new comp and have had this problem ever since. People at various companies and countless forums cannot help me.

The problem:

My cd rom will install and play off any cd thats put into it and I can also properly view what is in the drive.

When a program tries to detect the drive (such as a game that requires the cd to be in the drive, or also my cd-copier software) It does not detect the drive.

In device manager it says that the drive is working properly. Everything says that the drive is working properly except when the programs try to access it.

Whats the problem?

I KNOW its not the cd drive itself because I have two drives that I swapped and they both have the same problem. I only have one drive hooked up right now, like usual.

I'm working on a Windows XP XP system All has been fine for several years I've a few virus this is What hell the one? attacks but I've managed to clean them up without too much trouble However the curent one has me heat The first symptom was that the What the hell is this one? Google Chrome browser was failing on some pages with it's Aw Snap error message saying the page couldn't be displayed The some pages were just plank screend Then Chrome wouldn't load Then some other prowsers wouldn't load with error like --------------------------- firefox exe - Bad Image --------------------------- The application or DLL C Program Files Mozilla Firefox xul dll is not a valid Windows image Please check this against your installation diskette I ran a number of virus detection and removal programs like Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware They found a few things and I removed them Now scans detect no malware I also tried running them in safe mode with the same result It looked like Chrome was working in safe mode though I didn't test it extensively to see it it eventually failed But it gets worse I have my main system drive mirrored to a second drive That drive now won't boot no OS and it comes up as not being formatted when I try to list the contents I'm also having problems with the find or remove programs feature It starts but seens to run forever looking for programs it can't find No recovery points show up when I attempt to do a return to a known good condition I've tried removing and reloading Chrome Sometimes it works for a while then fails in the same way Sometimes it won't reload On top of all this I am recovering from a stroke and reading is touch right now so researching this on the web is slow and difficult I have a system recovery disk but assuming the recovery partition hasn't been hosed will wipe out all my files and return the machine to it's original state as purchased I'm sort of at a loss right now I've tried all my usual methods of virus removal and they aren't working My mirrored drive won't boot I guess I should have powered it down after every cloning but I didn't Lest resort will be to pull off all my data files which I can still access and try the recovery disk to get back to a clean drive I'm hesitant to do that unless I'm cure there is no chance of recovery Any help advice comments on what may have happened or reports of similar problems would be of great interest Please excuse typos As I said I'm recovering from a stroke and my typing depends on auto error correction to make it readable

A:What the hell is this one?

I'll add that I booted up again in safe mode and Firefox loaded just fine, as did chrome and hotmain (which had previously failed). I then booted up again normally and this time Firefex loaded just fine and Chrome and Hotmain were fine, though the Hotmail page turned blank after a short time and wouldn't reload. It just generated the "Aw Snap" error message again. At that point almost every page loaded in Chrome would start to display and the "Snak" message would replace it. ( "Aw Snap - Something went wrong displaying the website"). Firefox is still loading OK after 10 minutes.). This didn't seem to happen in safe mode.

It might also be relevant that I'd had adblocker installed in chrome and ever since these problems started, Adblocker would crash as soon as I loaded a page. I removed it and reinstalled it with the same result. I've since removed it (and all other extensions) from Chrome and the system behavior didn't improve.

A:CD-R Hell

Have you downloaded the newest version of the CD-writer's driver software from their website? Sounds almost like an unstable driver to me. Since this only happened after you installed the CD-writer, this leads me to believe that the writer or software its using is causing this. Does the CD-writer have the "Made for XP" logo on the box it came in? Or is it an older one--probably not 'cause you said you just bought it. It may be that the CD-writer just sucks working with XP or the driver was poorly written. I had an HP DVD drive made for ME and bought a new computer w/ XP and it was causing XP to become unstable. See if they also have a firmware update. That might help.

Hello, I am a new user on here and mainly signed up for help with MSN explorer. My computer is a Windows XP Laptop. This is driving me insane. I would like to uninstall this program but it will not leave! I have tried the Opening Control Panel, Add or Remove programs and it isn't in there, which is a good thing. Though when I click on Add/Remove window components, Windows Component Wizard setup opens and there I scroll to MSN Explorer 20.7MB. I checked the box and clicked next. Finished the Windows Wizard, and repeated everything and found it was still there. Then I tried UNchecking the box, finished the wizard and repeated to find it, and it was STILL there. I don't know what else to do really. Please Please help me! Also I'm trying to remove Windows Messenger but MSN Explorer is killing me!!!!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

You have an outdated version of HijackThis. Click here to get the latest version of HijackThis and run it.

Before you give us a new log here, if we gave you instructions for a fix, please do the fixes first and then post the new log with this updated version.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download LSPFix and run it. Click on aklsp.dll on the left window and click on the arrow pointing to the right. Click Finish and follow the prompts.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINDOWS\N20050308.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\WVWUGK.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NAVISEARCH\BIN\NLS.EXE

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSEXREG.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINOA386.MOD
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\INSTSRV.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\CASHBACK\BIN\CASHBACK.EXE

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

BULLSEYE NETWORK
CASHBACK
NAVISEARCH
VBouncer

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Hello oren_sh and welcome to TSF,

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. Do not run it yet.

Please download and install the trial version of Webroot SpySweeper (8.3MB) http://www.webroot.com/shoppingcart/...011&vcode=DT02

When SpySweeper starts, please accept any prompts to update definitions. Do not run the program yet.

CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Standard CleanUp!"
*Uncheck the following:
-Delete Newsgroup cache
-Delete Newsgroup Subscriptions
-Scan local drives for temporary files
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Do NOT reboot/logoff when prompted.

Open SpySweeper and Configure it as follows:
*From the left pane, click Options
*Select the Sweep Options tab & ensure the following are ticked:
-Sweep Memory
-Sweep Registry
-Sweep Cookies
-Sweep All Users accounts
*Do Not Sweep System Restore Folder
*Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
*Sweep For Rootkits
After that's done, select Sweep from the left pane & click on the Start button

Allow Spysweeper to reboot your machine to remove the infected files.
*After rebooting, launch SpySweeper & select Results from the left pane
*Click the 'Session Log' tab & choose Save to File to create a log.

Post that in your next reply along with a new HJT log.

I go away for an hour, come back. It turns out my comp lost it's wireless connection to our router. I go ahead into linksys control panel and reconnect, but then what's this, the SSID has changed. It is different from what it used to be, and I didn't change it, neither did anyone else in my family. Now I also cannot access my router, 192.168.2.1 gets me to the name/pass prompt, but the usual name/pass don't work. So the name, and the name/password to the router have been changed. How did this happen? Did someone pick up our (unfortanely highly insecure) network and make this changes? Or is there another reason?

A:Ok... what the hell?

I suspect that someone has reconfigured your router for you.

You need to reset it to factory defaults, put a better password on it, and also enable encryption to keep the wolves at bay.

I've been having a lot of trouble with malware, pop-ups are constantly happening, although I uninstalled anything that I may have found to be troublesome, but yet it continues.
I have pop up blocker, but yet when I click on certain things a new tab opens and I can't get away from that page without more pop ups happening, even shopping assistant started coming back, even though I uninstalled. My laptop is starting to run extremely slow, even though I've done all I can to the extent to my knowledge of technology.
Please help.

I know I know, it sucks donkey balls. I wish I could get my grandmother and cousins to move to something else, but they won't budge. My grandmother has an AOL account, I upgraded her computer to windows 2000, and I can't get her old saved email. I even went under windows\all users\application data\aol and tried to copy all her account data, so she could keep her old email, but it refuses to reconize it when I put it under the new directory (%userprofile%\<account name>\application data\aol). I need some way to transfer her old emails stored on her hard drive, to a new install of AOL. Anybody have any idea, please help me out.

Hope I've put this in the right place!
I give up, AOL has had it's chips from me. We've only ever had AOL and lately it's been a pain in the backside with frequent loss of internet connection problems and apologies.
Where to go now. We need a sever that is reliable for home use. I really don't know one from another. Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can do my homework before making a decision please? There seem to be so many out there.
Thankyou in anticipation,
Me.

A:AOL Hell!

I reccomend you talk to neighbors to see who has what for an ISP and how satisfied they are. Where do you live? In the US, your options are usually limited to Cable or DSL.

Who provides your connection to the internet now?

A:how the hell do i get rid of this cr p

Make sure you backup the registry before editing.
Select Start > Run

type "regedit",without quotes, and press Enter.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

The Add/Remove Programs list is built from the keys listed beneath the Uninstall folder.

Locate the key for the program that has been uninstalled, right click the key and click Delete.

Be very careful. Once the key has been deleted it's impossible to use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall if you make an incorrect selection

Hello dailymark and welcome to BleepingComputer.I am computing in adware hell.I can believe that You have a lot going on here - it will take a bit of work to get you cleaned out. Let's see if we can start to get it under control.Open Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs. Look for the following and uninstall them if found:Media AccessConfigure Windows to enable viewing of Hidden and System files. Download LQfix.zip- Unzip it to your desktop, don't use it yet!!Download the following file and save it to your desktop: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf- Don't use it yet.Download HSFix from here-After it is downloaded, create a new folder on your desktop called "HSFix" and extract all the files into the newly created folder.Boot into safe mode: Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.Locate the HSFix folder on your desktop, open it, and double-click "hsfix.bat"A log will be produced which you can close out of for now.Start HJT and click on the SCAN button. Put a check mark in front of the following lines if they still show:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blankR1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\MARKCA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll/sp.htmlR1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blankR0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{8952A998-1E7E-4716-B23D-3DBE03910972} - (no file)R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7384CA03-23B1-0F63-C579-0E150612E09A} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\eejed.dllO2 - BHO: (no name) - {ED103D9F-3070-4580-AB1E-E5C179C1AE41} - (no file)O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [etbrun] C:\windows\system32\elitezxn32.exeO16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/6247971C.../bridge-c18.cabO16 - DPF: {79849612-A98F-45B8-95E9-4D13C7B6B35C} - http://horse-active.net/ang/loader2.ocxWith ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, click on Fix Checked. Close HJT.Doubleclick on LQFix.bat. A doswindow will open and close again.. that is normal.Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'.Reboot back into normal mode. Locate the HSFix log which should be C:\hslog.txt. Open this text file, and copy the contents into your next post.Rescan and post a new HijackThis log as well. There will be more to do.

Switch the computer on Windows 7 to workgroup instead of homegroup and disable IPv6:

Here's how to do it:

Tell me if that works, because it usually does. Windows XP uses workgroup. There's some incompatibility between homegroup and workgroup.

A:XP Hell

You need to set your CD drive as the first boot device on the laptop and boot with the XP CD. It will format and partion your drive.

Before you do that though, I would suggest you check the laptop manufacturers website concerning drivers for the laptop. Most of them have specialized hardware and you will need the appropriate drivers to make it work. You may even need to flash the bios.

Been awhile since I've been here. Adware and pop ups finally got me. Getting annoying pop ups every 30 seconds or so saying that my computer is infected, etc... Do I need to download the latest HJT software?
