BSOD at random times when closing pc or closing browser/applications

Q: BSOD at random times when closing pc or closing browser/applications

Since a few weeks ago after I installed Windows 7 x64 I keep on getting random BSOD but not frequently (number of 3). First one I really didnt paid attention how it happen but the second one was after exiting a game of Counter Strike Global Offensive and entering teamspeak to talk after a few seconds BSOD. The last one i got i searched on the web how to find the error and i manage to get the file and the error state.

The bugcheck was: 0x00000050 (0xfffff900c5844cf0, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff9600031c69d, 0x0000000000000000).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So about a few weeks ago (not exactly sure when it started) my computer stopped allowing me to access certain websites. It started out with only a few, but now it is almost 50-80% not connecting. I do not think it is a problem with my browser. I typically use Firefox, but IE will connect to the same ones Firefox allows, and will also not connect to the same websites Firefox will not allow.

I have searched these forums for a couple of hours now and nothing seems to fit my exact problem, and I am hesitant to use the solutions from other forums because it might further hurt my system. I am not tech-savvy/computer literate to say the least, and I would need a thorough walk-through on how to diagnose the problem, as well as how to fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Unable to connect to most websites -- not a browser problem

How are you not allowed to view the website? Does the page show "The page cannot be displayed"? or you are not authorized or something else?

Try running cmd.exe, type "ipconfig /flushdns" without quotes.

About two days ago I started getting popping and crackling noises from my laptop speakers while playing any kind of in-browser video. It's not a hardware thing, because anything run outside the browser (CDs, iTunes, VLC, DVDs, etc.) sounds just fine. Tested in both Firefox and Safari, both have the popping/crackling problem, so it's not something with one browser.

I have tech support for this computer (Dell business model, Latitude E6500 w/XP), they tried updating sound card drivers, updating BIOS and uninstalling and reinstalling sound card. The last thing actually fixed it, until I started up my PC tonight, now the problem is back again. Anyone have suggestions for me? I really, really don't want to do a restore, because I've just spent the last four hours installing a game that I would then lose. If that's the only option, though...

Don't seem to have any issues with connectivity, or lag that I can detect.

A:Speaker noise only in browser

Uninstall and Reinstall Adobe Flash Player, in-browser video's use Adobe Flash player and since it is browser only related this may indicate there's an issue with Flash/the codecs for flash.. Just do a reinstall, post back with if it worked.

I am getting random CPU spikes whilst playing games, it lags a lot and Ive noticed a drop in fps when Firefox is running. Though I have a good system which should be able to handle this.

Can someone please advise and what the think the problem is?

Hi all

I recently upgraded the CPU in my laptop (the specifics aren't important). It runs better than it ever has before! Well, at least it does for around 30 minutes. It's developed a lovely habit of randomly and unexpectedly shutting off.

Now, I know that the CPU is compatible with the motherboard; the fact that my laptop actually runs proves this.

I'm wondering what the issue could be?

My main suspicion is heat. The laptop is running at about 50-55 degrees on average; is this normal? I've cleaned out all of the airways and the fan; it's all running normally and the fan varies in speed depending on workload and temperature. This leads me to believe that the problem might lie somewhere else.

I've searched nearly every forum going but everyone just yells about overheating. Could someone please advise me to any theories they may have and help me fix the problem

A:Random Shut offs

Sounds pretty much as heat issues to me. I have also once upgraded a laptop cpu and even tho the clock speed increased by only 300MHz it got heat issues. I had to have a separate notebook cooler for that to run.
Anyways, the specs would help us to find what sort of temps your comp. should run on...and does it just randomly die when you idle or does it die after you have been using it for a while?

Greetings Let me start by saying that what I am about to describe is NOT a malware virus problem It does involve a browser being redirected to the wrong website but we have checked repeatedly and to the best of our abilities we have ruled out malware or viruses Windows desktop Internet access is through ethernet wired redirect browser/website a -- challenge/mystery Got through a router that also provides wireless access to other devices in the house What we have is a single computer in the house out of desktops laptop and tablet that cannot reach a single specific website an SMF forum using Internet Explorer or Chrome It CAN get there using the AOL browser What happens with Got a challenge/mystery -- browser/website redirect IE and Chrome is that the browsers are redirected to another non-malicious as far as we can tell website that resides at the same Got a challenge/mystery -- browser/website redirect webhosting service as the website we are trying to reach Tracerts and Pings go to the correct site Other users as in people all over the country can reach the correct site Other computers in the same household go to the correct site using both wired and wireless access This appears to be a very computer-specific problem It does not seem to be an IP problem because the other computers in the house are not encountering it and it is not a website or network problem because no one else is running into the problem Any thoughts The only other piece of information that seems pertinent is that back in July this same computer suddenly could not reach the quot target quot website at all no matter what browser was being used All browsers would stall and time out or give a quot website can not be found quot type of message Tracerts and pings failed completely The tracerts said that the website could not be resolved and never generated even a single hop At the time we consulted a number of people and the only explanation that seemed like it might have merit is that it might have something to do with the MAC address Someone else suggested that it had to do with TCP IP settings We never got it fixed The problem just half-corrected itself about two weeks ago and then went sideways to the current situation What s different between IE amp Chrome versus the AOL browser that could explain this If you have an idea please use dummy talk I m fairly good with computers but networking and IP protocols baffle me Thanks Macgyver nbsp

Normally, 99.999% of the time I just shut it down completely but I'd like to know what "sleep" means?
Does that mean if I do so, upon opening the lid it'll be where I left it at?
I notice in Control Panel>Power Options>System Settings whether its on battery or plugged in , it shows sleep.

I recommend sleeping the laptop if you are gonna use it after you close it within the next few hours. Otherwise shut it down.

My computer randomly disconnects from the internet while gaming, youtubing or emailing etc. My computer is on wired internet and I've tried switching ports and switching cables. I've been searching the internet but I can't find any solution. Is there any way someone could help me?

Thank you very much,

A:Random 1 second disconnects

What were you doing prior to this started happening. You need to make sure you not infected by pest. First remove any Wired ethernet cord from the PC. Run a system virus check set to full scan. Let that run. If nothing turns up. Try setting your PC network adapter to static IP. This means you don't let the router setup the IP.

If that doesn't work then you have a bad network adapter. You could also try downloading newer drivers for your network adapter. Also any firmware updates for your router too.

So, a few months ago I bought a Dell inspiron 5552 laptop and in the past month or two I have been dealing with problems which are becoming VERY frequent. At random times, especially when I'm gaming, my laptop switches off - even when my laptop is cool. I downloaded Piriform's Specci and here are the results I got for the following hardware (Celsius): CPU 51, Motherboard 52, Hard drive 38 - These are the results on balanced and Dell battery life extender enabled. I've seen videos of dusting a laptop's ventilation system however their temperatures didn't seem to make a significant difference so I didn't try it. Any ideas?

A:Random shut-downs

Most probable issue is still the cooling and secondly too much power drain via graphics adaptor.

For the past couple of months, I've noticed an FPS drop across all my games. I usually play games like League of Legends and DotA 2 so they aren't really CPU heavy. I thought maybe it could be overheating. This is currently my fan status:

PC Specs:
Manufacturer: HP
Processor: AMD Phenom 8550 Triple-Core 2.20 GHz
Memory: 3GB RAM
HDD: 640GB
Video Card: GeForce 9500 GS

Not great, but it should be more than capable of running these types of games, they're not high end on graphics.

I've tried cleaning inside a couple of times.

A:Random FPS drops in LoL and Dota 2

Is that reading at idle?

If so, you have some worryingly high GPU temperatures. You should try cleaning the dust from GPU fan/heatsink. The CPU temperatures are also pretty mediocre, so I'd clean the dust from that fan as well.

Okay so to be precise, it is a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6857

The problem is that the computer will completely shut off at any given time. It will sometimes boot into windows but it will be a black screen with only the cursor until a blue screen pops up that I never have enough time to read through. It won't stay on trying to install a new OS or in the Setup Manager.
What I've tried:
Removing hardware one by one to see if it was the problem
Completely cleaned heatsink
Removed battery and ran only with power cord
Power drain
Replaced motherboard with a used but working one

Let me know if you need anymore information.

Ive only had the privledge (and by that, I mean, enough money) to build a single CPU (with my brother, it was his) in my life. I recall it has (still works apart from mobo, only recently replaced) a intel core 2 quad. I see people talking about bent pins and stuff on CPUs, but I dont remember pins being on the core 2 quad. that was the easiest part I recall, just literally placed the chip in the socket (the heatsink, that was a headache). I dont recall any pins. Are pins literally pins as in thin rods sticking out of the bottom, or what?

A:Sorta random CPU question (no problems, just a question)

Most modern CPU's (Intel at least) no longer have pins on the CPU, but instead the pins are on the socket.

The newer socket 1155 and 1366 (and 2011 for that matter) are just like the Socket 775 you are experienced with the Core 2 Quad you installed, just slightly larger sockets.

It is still very possible to bend pins though, but in this way, you damage the motherboard (with the CPU socket) vs. the CPU. You must be careful when inserting the CPU since dropping it on a corner into the socket CAN bend and damage pins.

So if you've built a system with Socket 775/Core 2 Quad, you should have no problem with Core i3/i5/i7 and newer Intel sockets if this is what you plan to do. Everything is basically the same... just slightly different socket and DDR3 memory vs. DDR2, which are also very similar and just snap in the DIMM slots similarly.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

A:Salt's random CPU blabber and some reading. Be prepared.

CPU's don't tick.
Probable culprits are:
PSU fan - see if any wires/cable are in close proximity to the PSU fan. No? Take out the PSU (or invert the chassis). What about now? If changing the orientation stops or decreases the sound then it's either a dry fan bearing or a loose wire or piece of insulation thats broken away and connecting with the fan blades.
Secondary culprit could be something (wiring/cabling) interfering with a chassis or graphics fans

Anyone think they can help me with this annoying issue? My internet at times will randomly drop

I could be running fine at about 150fps for 5-20 mins then all of a sudden it drops to about 20. At first I thought it was caused by overheating but then I went out ad bought a cooling pad with three cooling fans to put underneath it and I'm still getting this problem. I recently REFORMATED so it is NOT a virus issue or a ****ed up registry issue or similar.

Hi. I'm not sure, but perhaps a run down of your system specs would be helpful? I mean the hardware stuff: CPU, board, graphics card.

Does your rig "act weird" when you use other applications? Also, have you checked your CPU and GPU temps?

EDIT: Oops, sorry, I see you've got a Radeon 5700 and a dual core.

I just built a new computer recently and it is running great with one big exception, I keep getting randomly disconnected from my wireless internet connection. I do not believe it has anything to do with signal strength because my laptop right next to my rig never has this issue of connectivity. Also seeing as it is a new comp it is not an issue of any malware ect. If i had to guess i would say the wireless card i got is the issue. It was a last minute purchase and cost about 20 dollars. My question is how do I uncover if the wireless card is the culprit and if it is what steps do i take to fix/replace it?

A:Random disconnects from Internet

See if there is a newer driver. If so, uninstall the old one through Programs and Features and install the new one. Of course, make sure it is compatible with your version of Windows.

I recently updated my graphics card from an ATI HD 3850 to an HD 7750(Yes, I am a budget gamer.)

Is there anything I can do with my older 3850, such as using one card for one monitor and the other card for the other, or running a GPU intensive application on one card (BOINC) while leaving the other idle?

I was playing GTA 4 when the machine completely went blank. No shut down screen or anything of the sort. Now I'm here flabbergasted because that's never happened before and because I don't know where to start looking for the cause.

I checked the Event Viewer but I'm pretty much clueless there. Any suggestions?

If it is only during gaming it is possibly due to overheating. Have you ever cleaned the inside of the PC?

Hi guys To start I am sorry if this topic has been covered somewhere else but I have spent literally hours searching for a solution to this I am using a computer I built approx years ago running Windows xp sp I am using a Razr Carcharias headset attached microphone and a RealTek HD Audio card I am currently running drivers RtkHDAud driver My microphone has worked fine all the way up until I reformatted my computer Now my microphone will randomly stop working when using programs like skype ventrilo mumble etc However I can get the microphone working again for a short time if I open a menu related to the microphone and close it again Example I will be functionality Audio of Random RealTek microphone HD - loss talking with friends in Mumble similar to ventrilo and my microphone will cut out RealTek HD Audio - Random loss of microphone functionality I have to open up the audio wizard and click through all the menus all the settings are saved from previous so the microphone was working Once i have closed the audio wizard my microphone will work again for a short time The timeframe in which is is functional varies and I have yet to find a trigger or a certain length of time that my microphone will take to stop working After the reformat I have installed all of the windows updates and latest RealTek HD Audio drivers I have actually tried the newest drivers and about other drivers that were outdated wondering if there was a conflict somewhere When I use the troubleshooter through XP for sound and audio devices Even if my microphone stops functioning during the quot test quot It comes out saying that the device is working properly Same thing with dxdiag I m sure all my settings with my microphone both in windows and through RealTek HD audio manager are correct Ive tried about every known combination of settings that could be affecting it As for the microphone I have also tested this with a stand a lone microphone and have had the same results so this is not a hardware related issue with the microphone I have yet to take a physical look at the card but my suspicion is that this is software or settings based somehow as this problem only occurred after my computer reformat and everything was just peachy before that Keep in mind that I have changed absolutely nothing with hardware after the reformat Any ideas what can be going on Anything you can think of trying Thank you so so so very much in advance - Matt nbsp

A:RealTek HD Audio - Random loss of microphone functionality

A friend of mine is having the exact same problem. Audio just cuts out when using his microphone and he also uses XP SP3 w/ Realtek.
Haven't been able to pinpoint the problem, but to me it is safe to assume that this is a bug in XP as he has no issues in W7.

What motherboard do you have? you might have the same mobo as him as well.

Can anyone please help with this problem as it's driving me nuts. I am getting the DNS error when I try to go to certain websites ie. I've been in contact with my ISP but they don't seem to know how to fix the problem. My system consists of: WinXP Pro sp3, D-Link 2640R Router, wired connection. I'd be grateful any help. Thank you....

I have managed to resolve this issue myself....

A:DNS error on random websites

Hmm, w/o more info, an inability to access common sites like "eBay" suggests your "Network Adapter" (not hardware, but a MS Networking driver) is corrupted. A number of things can cause this, but "AdWare" is the most common culprit. The problem has always been far too common with XP (and earlier). Much less of a problem since Vista/W7 made changes to those essential services far more unlikely.

If you can, I suggest you try connecting another PC to the same internet connection and see what you get. Or, if you're computer savvy enough, I recommend downloading a free copy of Ubuntu Linux and connecting to the Internet with the "Live CD" (a way to test the OS w/o installing it.) Both methods will rule out an issue with your ISP.

I have this problem. I just bought a new computer. Dell XPS8300. Sometimes it'll lag really bad for 2 - 4 seconds and during that period, the sound will sound really bad and "pixelated".

You can hear what it sounds like on the youtube video. It's about 2 to 3 times worse normally. Does anybody knows what's going on? Thanks!

I'm having this same exact problem. Does anyone have any clue what it could atleast be related to? Dell wanted me to restore my hard drive to factory settings but 1. I recently installed Sound Forge Pro 10 onto my computer that uses Realtek HD Audio.

In its Options I can select - Microsoft Sound Mapper, Direct Sound Surround Mapper, Windows Classic Wave Driver and ASIO4ALL V2.

From the Realtek Manager I can select and record from - Microphone, Line In and Aux but there is no way I can select the output directly from the sound card. e.g. what is playing on my web browser. There is only silence.

Am I missing something or is this not possible with Realtek HD Audio Manager?

A:Realtek HD Audio not recording sound from browser

I think you are referring to the 'Stereo Mix' audio device.

Try this:

Control Panel > Sound
go to the 'Recording' tab
Where it lists the recording devices, right click in an open area and make sure that "show disabled devices" is checked, and see if Stereo Mix pops up.

If it does, then right-click > Enable, and select that as device to record from.
If it does NOT, I'm both surprised and sorry to say that I can't help you with that.

Note: Stereo mix is the COMPLETE output of your computer, so that includes things like Skype, beeps, pings, Media Player and so on.

Here s an imaginary situation For curiosities sake two independent motherboards are present in a case installed in such accessed different by Can if one be accessed HDD times? two at motherboards a way that only one could be on at a time Let s say that one motherboard is an intel chip with hardware configured to run windows and let s say that the other is an apple motherboard configured for OS X Lion And there is a three way switch on the case giving power to only one board at a time If the motherboards were both run to one hard drive could both motherboards access the hard Can one HDD be accessed by two motherboards if accessed at different times? drive and function normally so long only one of them was on at a time I am assuming that they would be able to the board Can one HDD be accessed by two motherboards if accessed at different times? set up for windows would search Can one HDD be accessed by two motherboards if accessed at different times? the drive for its partition and read and write to it and the board set up for mac would search for its partition and read and write to it And before things get nuts yes I know that you don t need to do this and that you can dual boot mac windows blah blah blah I am just curious as to whether or not it is possible If you have to know why I ask I am considering a mod to put an xbox mobo and a ps slim mobo into an xbox case in with a micro atx psu and a hdd the case mod being a homage to phantom crash and slai the setup would only run these two games off the hdd nbsp

A:Can one HDD be accessed by two motherboards if accessed at different times?

In theory, if the power to the HDD also switches to the corresponding motherboard, yeah it should be possible. (see EDIT below)

But this switching-idea must also be applied to the data cable running to the HDD. The cable must not be connected to both motherboards at the same time, that would cause internal confusion.

But in theory, a multi-port power switch could do the job, sure.

Keep in mind, for your splendid idea: you need (at least) two separate partitions on the HDD, one formatted in FATX, and one formatted in (whatever format the PS2 uses). It is possible to format two different partitions on a drive in different formats, but it is tricky.

A:Random FPS lag spikes

Just a quick note:

Run "DxDiag", "accept WHQL-signatures", go to the third tab up on the left - called "Monitor" or "Screen" or "Graphics" or something like that.

At this tab, you can see what GPU you have.
If you restored the PC to factory settings, but still experience lag, then this is at least not software-related.

- Have you re-installed the graphics drivers?

The Acer Aspire X1301 I looked up on Google was a stationary PC, so I'm expecting that your PC is a stationary model.

You should check the CPU temperature in your BIOS, and if it doesn't void any kind of warranty, you should also check (only see, don't touch) the inside of your PC.
- Is it "very" dusty? Like a 1mm film of dust everywhere or equivalent?

Sounds like there could be an issue with your BIOS... either needs to be flashed to a newer version to fully support the X6 processor or the settings just need to be tweaked. Make sure your memory is running in accordance to factory spec and that your voltages for both CPU and RAM is within acceptable range.

Yesterday I started noticing that my computer randomly makes 2 quick noises in a row that sound like sandpaper being scratched together. The first is a longer noise, the second is the same type of noise but abbreviated.

It happens when I am using the computer at random times (maybe every 10 minutes) and also when I am not using the computer, just a few feet away perhaps.

Any ideas? ... This noise is annoying because I have the volume on quite a bit due to medical transcribing w/ sounds files.

A:Random strange noise from speakers/earphones

A click or buzz noise that happens every 10 or 15 minutes, could be coming from another electrical device on the same mains wiring, for instance, a fridge, or central heating thermostat.
Each time a fridge motor starts up, it puts a 'spike' of noise into the local mains wiring, which is amplified by items such as Hi-Fi or PC speakers. If that is the case, it is possible to buy for a few pounds (dollars), a small choke that will clip over the mains lead, near the plug, which will cut the interference down.
Also, there are mains extension cables with multiple outlets designed for HI-Fi of PC use, which have spike suppression built in. It is sometimes called 'mains conditioning'.
These are not the same thing as 5 extension 'gangs' !
The prices vary wildly, but here is one I found quickly.
Or try (if in UK)

Also: From past experience with interference in a HIFi system, the problem turned out to be coming from the central heating boiler next door! In that case the fault has to be stopped at source. You might try fitting an RF filter to your speaker or headphone lead. I have a similar 'Choke' on my PC speakers. I bought a DAB radio this year, and a similar device is fitted to the mains adapter.
These clip on ferrites are designed to go over the mains lead to prevent the interefence from running up the lead, but if you use headphones for transcribing work, or audio typing, it might be better to wind the headphone lead through this choke, several times over.

A:My PC fell onto my scanner and now suffers from random shutdowns

If the CPU has sustained damage it wouldn't work at all.

I'm not really overly sure what the issue is, it sounds software related, but then I can't think of any process that would cause immediate shutdown of the PSU.

It could be heat related, but the computer would freeze from the CPU overheating under load and therefore thermally throttling down to reduce temperature. It wouldn't in my experience "order" the PSU to immediately cut all power, unless this is a safe guard through the motherboard I'm unaware of.

I would check the CPU cooler all the same. Does it still feel rigid on all 4 corners, or does the cooler frame now have play when you rock it side to side? Its possible the impact has dislodged one or more pins holding the cooler to the motherboard.

Hi I got a new system assembled in September this year Since the last two weeks there is a weird buzzing sound like that of a bee emanating from inside the system at random intervals It lasts for an intervals fan buzzing creates Computer at irritating random sound - seconds and then stops only to occur again Initially I ignored it Computer fan creates an irritating buzzing sound at random intervals But when it continued this way I opened up the CPU while the system was running Now there are two fans inside my CPU a big one mounted vertically at the back kind of like an exhaust fan and a smaller one screwed horizontally on a heat sink processor fan I suppose I discovered that the sound was emanating from the processor fan How did I know Well I waited for the buzzing sound to occur again and when it did I placed a finger on the center of the fan The fan stopped rotating and so did the buzzing sound The fan is screwed on to the heat sink Initially I thought that it might be due to friction fan rubbing against a rough surface So I unscrewed it and took a peek underneath But it seemed fine to me Then I cleaned the fan with a hair dryer It didn t have much of dust anyway as it s just months old I also used the hair dryer to clean the top of the heat sink then screwed the fan back on and started the system It was fine for a couple of minutes and then the buzzing sound materialized once again And this continues to occur at random intervals even now I have experienced noisy computers before and I do understand that it s normal for computers to be slightly noisy due to the cooling fans However this buzzing sound is something new to me Can anyone diagnose this problem and help me get rid of the buzzing sound It gets on my nerves especially at nights while I am surfing My system configuration is as below AMD Athlon II X Processor on MSI GMA-E motherboard with GB Corsair DDR RAM OS is Windows Ultimate Ed bit By the way I had enabled the quot AMD Cool n Quiet quot feature in my BIOS setup a long time ago I have tried disabling it But this did not stop the buzzing sound As this is a brand new system shouldn t the fan be running smoothly I do remember that the heat sink and fan were part of the AMD processor package kit nbsp

I'd say the fan is defective. I'd just replace it. I doubt it would be worth it to return the CPU, heatsink and fan just to get a new fan but I suppose you could if you wanted to.

Long story short, I have Verizon, they can't/won't help me.

I have a verizon 7500 modem/router, connected to my pc and xbox 360 (both wired).
I've been having random internet drops for about 3 weeks now. Verizon tried everything from lowering my speed to sending a tech guy out, nothing helped. All of their line tests say nothing is wrong, which obviously isn't the case.

Can anyone save me from this hell? It would be appreciated greatly.

I got a minor problem with my system. I highly doubt it is from the 9600GT card my friend give me. The symptom is: at random startup the screen will display artifacts, to be exact it actually looks like there are tiny glitters all over the screen randomly. and the display will shutoff intermittently.

always solved by a reboot. always. sometimes what i notice is, the fan is not as noisy as usual when startup, and the problem appear.

not a big deal, but getting quite irritating having to reboot to solve the problem. i've tried cleaning the card contact also of course clean the HSF and redo thermal gel.

anyone have any idea? and of course, drivers are 258.xx from nvidia web.

This is the strangest error I have EVER seen in XP. I find no mention of this phenomenon anywhere on the web so perhaps I am the first? I surely hope not.

I have a Dell laptop with an integrated keyboard (i.e. built-in). Suddenly, and with no good reason, today my keyboard is acting strangely. Some letters I have to hit 3 times before they type. Others twice. And yet others behave as normal. The correct letter will eventually appear but my Lord no one should have to hit any character on the keyboard more than once.

I need this fixed ASAP because I am taking this PC out of the country with me and I have to be productive.

A:Windows XP - Keyboard - some letters I have to type multiple times for them to appear

Laptop keyboard problem

This could be a failing keyboard matrix, fairly simple to order a new one from Dell and fit. Or it could be the keyboard software faulty. A way to check for a failing keyboard, is to plug in a separate keyboard, into a USB socket. If all works well, then the fault is the Laptop's keyboard. Hope that helps, if only to eliminate one possible problem.

So i decided to fire up my brothers computer that he hasnt used for about 2 years and keep running into the bsod with the error about nvlddmkm.sys for my graphics card, the monitor is also blurred as in the colors are distorted and random colors will blurr to the right or the left of where they should be. I can get it to bootup once i go into safe mode and delete the nvlddmkm.sys but when i try and install the latest driver and reboot the same problem and same error pops up. Any advice on how to fix this error? And I was hoping that by installing the newest driver properly that perhaps the blurry screen will clear up, is that just wishfull thinking or could the blurry screen actually be fixed? The computer is running vista 64 with 4g ram and 750w psu. Thanks for the help guys.

A:BSOD video card 8800gtx error: nvlddmkm.sys

as you can imagine nvlddmkm.sys is part of the driver installation so simply deleting it will either cause errors or blue screens. there are a number of things that could be causing this to happen, such as corrupted files, a bad power supply, or even the card itself. the first thing i would advise is to do a clean installation of the display drivers, which requires you to use a piece of software such as Driver Sweeper to completely purge the associated driver files. once this is done, you can restart the computer and proceed to install the drivers normally.

if this fails, you may be looking at corruption in Vista itself or possibly with the motherboard chipset drivers. there's also a slim chance that you need to update DirectX software or frameworks for graphics-based software. if it comes down to having to test the actual hardware, there are limited options. the best way would be to test the card in another computer (preferably one with a different OS) and to test the power supply and RAM if you can. is there any reason in particular that the computer hasn't been used for a couple of years? there's always a possibility that your brother knew to replace something and never did

A:Need help with overheating temps (causing random shutdowns)

Those cpu temps are strange, (2 of the 4 pages are reading negative values) so I wouldn't know whether to trust them.

I'd be suspecting the cpu fan, assuming those temps are trustable. I'm sure someone with much more knowledge than me will be around soon to confirm it though.

Temp 1 could well be your northbridge or southbridge on your motherboard. Its not your GPU, or drives, as they're listed seperately, as are your two CPU cores.

A:Random PC shutdown

Well generally pc shutdowns are due to the power supply being faulty or general overheating.
As you have replaced the power supply there is a small chance that this is the cause. Again you have checked the connections to the motherboard and they are fine too.

The only thing I can suggest without further thought is to check the cpu temperature. This can be accessed in some bios configuration screens. Generally you can enter this screen using the f1, f2 or delete key.

The temperature will be under the power tab and it will probably show the motherboard temp as well as the cpu's. between < 35 is great 35-45 is ok anything over 45 is starting to run hot etc. *Note AMD chips do run a little hotter so take this into account*

What cpu fan do you have? is it connected with thermal paste?

The motherboard could have a faulty connection point I once experienced this except the computer was in permanent sleep mode rather than sporadic shut downs.

A:Random shut downs - dying CPU? MOBO? PSU?

If you can, go back to the way it was setup before you started overclocking and underclocking...
this problem can be one weak component, or using memory modules that are not matched or not the best for your machine...
I would make a log and keep track of what is going on when it fails... because it is difficult to track down... can be anything... hard drive, memory, CPU cooling, poor quality cables or connectors, too much or too little thermal paste...
The age of your computer is a clue that you need to start upgrading components anyway

Sorry if this is the wrong section This is my first time in a forum like this So weeks ago I cleaned my entire house and i decided to dust out my computer too I opened it up and looked at it I pulled a computer? from whirling Random sound couple of things Random whirling sound from computer? that had a lot of dust in it I took a Q-tip and some paper towels then wiped all the dust that i could see from the computer I wiped between some gold-colored plates that were arragned in a ring the top of the circuit board motherboard i m assuming and below on the fans I put everything back together with no problems and was able to use the computer without any issues until the next day I noticed a strange whirling groan type of sound The sound is low and there s a distinct pattern to it I googled it and found nothing like what i was hearing but upon reading other posts threads about other sounds I gathered that the power supply mother board or fans were messed up Problem is I don t know what s wrong T T Can anyone shed some light on this matter -Billy nbsp

A:Random whirling sound from computer?

If you open the case it should be pretty easy to tell where the sound is coming from. Could be a fan is off balance or something is rubbing against the blades of a fan.

So recently I purchased a Sapphire Vapor-X and it's been working great so far, but today when playing both Team Fortress 2 and GTA IV I suffered severe lag. On Team Fortress 2 I was just running around with hardly anybody on the screen when my FPS kept jumping from 60-10FPS and this lasted for around 30 seconds, I had the exact same issue with GTA IV when walking through a building. I haven't overclocked and I'm using the 10.4 drivers

System specs:

AMD Athlon 630 x4 @ 2.8GHz
Biostar GF8100 Motherboard
Seagate 250GB HDD
Corsair VX550

Also when this happens my temperatures seem fairly normal:

CPU 38 Celcius with the fan at 4000rpm
GPU 53 Celcius with the fan at 40%

Might as well upgrade and hope.

when typing sometimes when i press a key it wont type. ive plugged in 2 different keyboards and the same thing still happens. at first i thought it was just terrible user error, but ive watchd myself type the keys and noticed that my key press wasnt registering. i noticed that it helps a lil to type slowly. (again its not just user error lol). i only have these typos when typing online.

i updated Acrobat reader, Java, and upgraded to ie9 platform. im still having a lil trouble with it, although it does seem to have improved a bit. i checked for updated drivers and i couldnt find anything.

need help troubleshooting this

A:Random keys not typing when pressed

Sometimes, a thorough cleaning of socket and boards with a can of Dust Off or other treated canned air can resolve the problem...
Try a very simple keyboard from any source that you know is working well... Keep a record of the keys that work improperly.

Hello everyone,

I just bought some Hardware to build a new computer from Scratch.

I bought:

1. Asus P5E3 Pro Motherboard (DDR3 RAM DIMMS)
2. PSU Coolmax CUL-750B 750W
3. 2x2GB OCZ OCZ3G10664GK R (DDR3 RAM)
4. VGA Card - ASUS ENGTS250/DI/512MD3
5. Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66Ghz 1333

I installed Windows 7 x64bit OEM

I am having problems with BSOD (different ones not the same one every time)

I would like to know if its a compatibility Problem with My RAM and Motherboard or could it be something else. I am very bad with Hardware and I just bought parts that I knew could fit in theory.

BIOS is set to default because I don't know how to configure it (Probably thinking why did I buy parts instead of a built computer)

Could you please help?

A:Compatible RAM for Asus P5E3 Pro Motherboard (BSOD)

Your RAM isn't on Asus' memory QVL (Qualified Vendors List)-but that isn't to say that it's not supported.
Having your power supply checked might be an option if your graphics card seems to run slow or you are getting fluctuating performance.
Because OCZ memory modules lack what are called embedded XMP profiles, your motherboard will have difficulty assigning a setting for them so you will need to do it manually.
Download Memtest86+ from here
***under the Memtest86+ v4.00, select "Download -Pre-compiled bootable iso ", save and unzip if downloading the zip file then burn a BOOTABLE CD using ImgBurn or your usual burning software (Nero etc.).- this program runs at BIOS level
Download MemSet here
You can also download CPU-Z -it gives a much simplified version of the RAM timings but you can also access chipset and CPU info. download here

First order of business would be ascertain whether the RAM modules are not defective.
I presume the RAM in question is OCZ's Gold XTC modules - if they are then you can try to manually select the timings- they should be on a sticker on the side of the RAM, which should be 7-7-7-21 ( CAS (or CL)-tRCD-tRP-tRAS) at 1.5 to 1.6 volts.
IF THIS IS NOT YOUR RAM THEN GO NO FURTHER, If it is then you need to set it in order to test it for stability.
Boot into your BIOS. Select the second tab "A.I.Tweaker"
Set PCIE Frequency to 100 (if not already set)
Set DRAM Frequency to DDR3-1066 (if not already set)
Set DRAM Command rate to 2T (if not already set)
Set DRAM Timing Control to Manual
Note the string of timings following "Pri.Information" on the next line-they should be the same as the settings you are about to input.
Set CAS# Frequency to 7 DRAM Clocks
Set RAS# to CAS# Delay to 7 DRAM Clocks
Set RAS# Precharge to 7 DRAM Clocks
Set RAS# Active time to 21 DRAM Clocks
leave the rest of the timings on Auto for now and move down the page until you get to..
DRAM Voltage ....type in 1.60
Hit F10 to save and exit
**If you can boot into windows then run Memset (NOT the Memtest86+ cd you burned!) and note -or better still get a screen capture of the timings (and include in your next post)-here is an example of one of my old screenshots-take no notice of the values but note that both modules SPD (A and B )values are shown-so expand the window.

** If you cannot load Windows then get back to the BIOS and revert settings by choosing Restore Defaults, F10 to save and exit. The likely cause will be insufficient MCH (Northbridge) voltage.
If Memset shows you the correct values and voltage then you can move on to testing.
Reboot and select CD as your first bootable drive
Insert your Memtest86+ bootable cd into the drive
Hit F10 to save and exit
Memtest86+ will boot automatically once the motherboard POST's. As it's a DOS program it is fairly straightforward -The test actually comprises 8 seperate tests. Once all 8 have run then your RAM has completed a "Pass" -for 4Gb a Pass takes around 20-30 minutes.
Run 7 (minimum) to 12 passes. If the testing shows no errors then stop the test at your leisure.
Return to your BIOS, change the boot order back to Harddrive (I assume)
Take the CD out of the drive
F10 to save and exit -congratulations your RAM is stable. The next step would be to stress test the CPU/RAM fo test for stability- but one thing at a time

If the test throws up errors then note the Number of the test and the error code- the test will continue if the errors are not to great. If the testing serquence stops then stop the test, reboot, change boot order, remove cd and F10.
The RAM could fail from either physical damage it has suffered or the timing (and sub-timings) are unstable. We can look into that if the need arises.

Hey guys Well this is a new one for me Computer has started randomly shutting itself off on me I m really torn on whether I think it s a hardware problem or not though It seems to happen regardless of what the computer is doing Idling in windows it will eventually happen however I can quicken it by starting something like WoW or the SC beta Booting into safe mode it happens eventually again quickened by doing something such as running a virus scan However booting into BIOS doesn t seem to cause an issue I ve let it idle in there for about minutes or more While in BIOS the temps are all within ranges and lower and I have all default settings no OCing So I m really torn on this Could it be a PSU voltage problem that happens when the computer tries to draw more from the PSU CPU issue under heavy loads Bad driver somewhere seems unlikely but I m quite lost Specs as follows Windows Ultimate all updates current EVGA nForce i SLI mobo possibly outdated driver however this just started happening with no hardware or software changes Highly unlikely but on list of things shutoffs Random to Random shutoffs try BFG GTS current driver gigs patriot viper mem OCZ Random shutoffs PSU model Random shutoffs OCZGXS Seagate Barricuda HDD ASUS DL DVD burner Pioneer DL DVD burner I m sure I m forgetting something Any ideas guys Any tests or anything to try to narrow this down a bit that I m not thinking of Thanks in advance nbsp

Little update... Computer ran idle in windows for about 35 minutes... Hit the start menu and it shut off...

Would the start menu really hit the PSU hard enough to cause a freaking shutdown? Or could we be looking at a corrupt windows? Virus?

Hi About a week ago my system froze while playing a game it had never done this before during the years I ve had it and when I freezes Random tried to reboot there was dots going in symmetrical lines all over the motherboard and windows bootscreen not in bios and not on post It managed to boot in safemode I checked temperatures Random freezes and everything seemed normal After a couple restarts the dots disappeared and I could boot normally This problem have since come back a couple times a day Sometimes I can play for hours before it crash sometimes it crash almost immediately It seems to almost only crash in games but that can be because when the computer is on I ll probably be playing a game When this problem occurs it can always boot into safe mode can t boot normally and it always works to boot normally if I uninstall my graphics drivers first When it fails to boot it comes to the windows loading screen and then it dissapears and seems to freeze leaving only these dots going in symmetrical lines on the screen I ve tried cleaning away dust increasing fan speeds to try and ensure that it s not a temperature issue and I don t think it is I ve ran prime for hours on occasions without graphics drivers without crash or error I ve ran a hd test without errors I ve disconnected everything that doesn t need to be connected like cd player extra hdd etc My parts are Gainward GTX Gigabyte GA-X -DQ Intel Core Duo E xOCZ DDR PC gb Corsair W Windows Vista -bit The dots on screen and the fact it works without drivers safemode and seems to be stable in prime leads me to believe the graphics card is broken But I would like to hear what you guys think before I order a new one and if you have any ideas on what else it could be Thanks in advance nbsp

I can connect to a wireless network, but I cannot use any applications such as web browsers, or updating virus definitions, etc.

When I connect wired to the same network I can use the internet freely and use applications with ease. I have tried this with 2 different networks now, and it works the same way.

I don't think it's my firewall because even if I disable it, I still have the same problems when trying to connect wireless.

Please help me figure out how to fix this. Thank you.

A:Can connect to wireless network, but cannot use applications

let's document the wired vs wireless configurations.

First get a command prompt

with a wired connectin where the browser works, enter
ipconfig /all >wiredTCP.txt
Now disconnect the ethernet, enable the WiFI and connect to your router.
now in the command window, enteripconfig /all >wifiTCP.txt
when you have both, follow-up and attach both file wiredTCP.txt and wifiTCP.txt
so we can see the settings.
Both these files will be available in the folder see by this command
echo %userprofile%

Hi - I hope someone can fill me in one this puzzle - my father's computer will play an audio file that is on the hard drive, such as wma file, but will not play other sounds:

will not play system sounds
will not play audio over the internet - I have tried both MS Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Soundcard is SoundMAX integrated digital audio, in an asus mb. Comp has been working fine for onver a year.

In "System," "Audio codecs" says "this device is working properly."

Any ideas?

A:Random shutdown then power back on

What power supply do you have?

It's normal for motherboards to reboot after changing RAM settings, mine does.

The reason your machine may turn back on, is that it may be set to reboot after a power failure. If your power supply is shutting down because it's being overloaded, the motherboard sees that as power failure.

For the past month my internet seems to be randomly dropping out. After Reseting my modem, router, and adapter it would sometimes come back up.

I reset my router to Factory settings and re configured the whole thing.
I called my ISP and had them monitor my connection for drops.

They did not detect any drop so it has to be on my end. I usually have a Voip running. Either Ventrillo or Teamspeak. These are where i most regularly notice the disconnects.

I started uninstalling programs that i did not use anymore. I downloaded and reinstalled new drivers and had some success. Today however i started experiencing the disconnects again.

Its a realtek Ethernet adapter on a gigabyte board. GA-EP45T-UD3LR

I have ordered a new router to see if thats the issue. if not does anyone have any suggestions that i should try

That will happen when you don't install a graphics driver. For that matter, did you install the motherboard chipset, LAN and audio drivers too?
