IE10 updating failed, code 9c48

Q: IE10 updating failed, code 9c48

Hi to all!

My problem is very similar to many others, described on the forum. So, while updating IE 10 through Windows Update Center I've got error with code 9C48. Here is what I have in event viewer: "Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7" That is the only one updating, that cuoldn't be installed, all of the others updates installing successfuly. I try to do everything, but nothing helps=(

I make a zip copy of CBS folder, and attached it to post. I will be grateful for any help! Thanks in advence!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:IE10 Update Failed - Error 9C48

Both CheckSUR and SFC are free of problems - so we'll have to look elsewhere.

It may be a case of attempting to rip IE10 out by the roots...
command line uninstall IE10 on W7 may help with that.

Please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file and all IE*.log files

Problem originally started when trying to complete a Windows Update to install IE10 -- had connection issues due to my router and needless to say, the install failed... miserably. Kept trying to reinstall IE10 through Windows Update, and also manually, to no avail.

Strangely enough, I could open IE, though not be able to use any of the toolbar menus or type in any address in the URL bar without it crashing.

IE10 was not showing in the installed update list, however IE9 was. Tried uninstalling IE9 and have gotten myself into an even bigger mess. Now, IE10 IS showing in the installed update list but the system is requesting that I install IE9. Still fails just as before with the resulting 'Code 9C48'. Can also still open IE but get the same type of crash as before.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

A:Win 7 - IE9 & IE10 update failure (Code 9C48)

You have some major registry corruption.

Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 1923
Found 586 errors
CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 2
CSI Missing Winning Component Key Total count: 584
This seems to be a fairly comprehensive listing of the IE9 entries.

It's not feasible to attempt to fix that manually - your only real option is going to be a repair install of Windows, followed by reinstalling IE9, and updating fully before attempting IE10 again.

I got error code 9c48 when trying to install the important update for IE9. Not only has the update failed, but it has caused IE9 to be inoperable, resulting in NO browser. I can't seem to find any solution. Please help.

A:IE9 Update Failed - Error code 9c48

Try a system integrity scan
RUN > CMD > SFC /SCANNOW

Also try using firefox to access the net, then uninstall IE & download to install IE9 again.

You can try rolling back to your previous ver as well.

A:WU Error 9c48 when installing IE10

Your CheckSUR report looks as if every possible Winning Component Key for IE10 has gone missing.

I don't think there's anything we can do by way of a manual repair for this number of this type of error - we'll have to try removing all the bits of IE10 that are currently sitting there, and then see if we can reinstall it.

Open an Elevated Command Prompt and copy the following command into it:

Code:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum/c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr/up:@fname /quiet /norestart

.
and then press Enter.

Wait for the command to finish and the prompt to return, then restart the machine.

Run the CheckSUR tool again and post the new log.

Here are some instructions to make lifeeasier

1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs,Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run asAdministrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on thehighlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at topleft – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the lastcommand, so hit the Enter Key once.

3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit...'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to pasteit into your response.

I need to do some research to work out how to approach this - but in the meantime, I think a CHKDSK would be a good idea...

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

The results can be found in the Event Viewer - as an event from the WININIT source, in the Windows Logs > Applications folder.
Copy and paste the results to your reply

HI all,

Just registered after seeing a similar thread on here to the issue I have.

I have a laptop with 7 Home premium 64 bit SP1 that is up to date with the exception of an IE9 update that refuses to install at all.

Have tried various different methods but to no avail including attempting to remove IE9 and then try a reinstall.

Uninstall hasn't been possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

I ran Windows Update and there is an update for IE 9, but when I try to install it I get error code 9c48. I have tried every fix on the net to repair this, but to no avail. I have tried to uninstall IE9 and reinstall, but there is no update for IE9 in my installed updates. I have run sft / scannow and tried to fix the dll. I also have cleaned the registry and repaired the .net framework and 6-8 hours later. Still no IE, still no update.

I don't care about the update as long as I have a working version of Internet Explorer on my machine. Please help! I also have attached the .txt document of the cbs/logs with the erros from the scannow command.

Please help! Thanks.

I am running Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 and everytime I try to install IE11 from Windows update it gives me the 9C48 error. I've tried downloading and installing the IE 11 standalone installer but it keeps giving an error that "Setup cannot continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed on your computer".

I have been searching Google and these forums and I noticed people attach their CBS and checkSUR logs after running sfc /scannow, so I am doing that as well in hopes of someone being able to help.

I have tried so many different fixes, CheckSUR, subinacl, MS Hot fixes, uninstalling IE11 etc. I hope someone is able to help. Thanks in advance for your help.

Completed a SFC scan (no problems detected)

Ran the windows update repair tool

Nothing made a difference.

Right, I hope I can get my problem across clearly as i've tried following many threads in different forums and at the moment i've had no luck...

I'm posting the thread due to the error code 9C48 which I get trying to update IE11 through windows. The first thing that came to mind is uninstalling IE.

1. I've looked under the View installed updates for 'Windows Internet Explorer' and couldn't find it.
2. I've tried uninstalling via command prompt and was unsuccessful (followed this step off a different thread).

Can someone help me with this?? I should mention i'm completely new to this so I need some good help

A:Another IE11 Update failure - Error Code 9C48

Here are some of my log files - CheckSUR, CheckSURpersist, IE11_main and windowsupdate.

I assume you may want to see my CBS logs, but I will need some help getting you what you want. I wound up with 1 CBS log and 5 CBSpersist logs, and when I zipped the folder it was 171MB in size which is way too big to upload here. I can try zipping the individual files to see if any of them would be small enough to upload.

FYI, I'm not an IT person and I have minimal experience knowing what I'm seeing when I try to read a log file. So please keep things simple where you can.

Thanks!

Hello all,

I've been fixing up a laptop for a laptop that has had one problem after another. I'm working with an ASUS G51VX.

It was riddled with spyware and adware. After cleaning it was still pretty slow, found out it had a failing HDD. Replaced the HDD and still slow. I pretty much have it at a tollerable start up time but I cannot get it to complete the last of it updates (see title)

I've run SURT and it installed one hotfix, KB947821. Assuming that fixed it I ran the update again and still failed.

SFC says it found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Attached is the log (I only zipped CBS.log because the folder itself is 15GB).

I'm not sure about previous versions, but I believe those were delivered via Windows Update.

Internet Explorer 10 has a somewhat hidden checkbox that is enabled by default: "Install new versions automatically". I am unsure if this overrides the Windows Update settings.

The option can be found in: Settings > About.

We run several 2008R2 servers, on which we manually updated IE from 9 to 10. Two of them have the same problem: cannot install IE10. Error code when using automatic update is 9C59 (the famous one).
Standalone installer just finishes with error: installation failed.
Already run Microsoft fixes, no change. SFC didn't report any problems.
Please find attached CBS and SURT logs.
Had a look into CBS as well a found the error:
Failed to find file: amd64_microsoft-windows-scripting-vbscript_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.22024_none_a6feb3715dac73fc\vbscript.dll [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]

Thanks for having a look into this .

Cheers

P.S. had to strip down the CBS.log - was originally 64 MB big..., but I hope there are still enough ERRORs in it to get down to the main cause.

Oh, look! An IE10 installation problem. How unique and unusual!

Ok, sarcasm over. I'm trying to install IE10 on an Asus 1016p netbook with Win 7 Pro 32, and I'm getting good ol' error code 9C59. SFC doesn't seem to find any problems, and the error persists after running SURT. I've attempted to manually install all the prerequisite IE10 hotfixes, and all were either not applicable or already installed. Looking through CBS.log it appears as though I'm missing a file link for iecompat.dll in winsxs, and that's what's killing the update. Assuming that's the case, I don't actually know what, if anything, I can do about it. I've attached the cbs and checksur logs.

Yes, it's failing due to that file - however, it's an LDR version of the file, and staging is attempted on that branch for that version of the file earlier, here:

So, at some point you installed an LDR-only version of an IE8 update, which got you to this place. You may have better luck if you manually force install the latest version of iecompat.dll in LDR mode to make sure all of your binaries are at their latest LDR bits before upgrading - it would seem your current IE8 install is not quite right:

Hi guys,

I am getting the error 9c59 when installing IE 10 in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

In event viewer the error code 0x80070643 is shown, reading up on this Microsoft suggests it has something to do with .net framework 4 and that this should have a repair install run. I did this but it made no difference.

I have run the SFC scan and added the logs as suggested.

Please help guys, I really don't want to have to re-install.

Regards

Trev

Update:

I have just tried to uninstall IE 9 but this failed.

Have spent all afternoon trying to sort this and am close to giving up but thought I would post some logs in here in one last attempt. Have completed all important and optional Windows updates but the installation of IE10 fails everytime with error 9C59. Have tried manual download and same issues.
SFC scan has no issues.

CBS logs attached if anyone has any bright ideas. Please let me know if you require any more information.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Also...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

Sounds likely to be a malware infection to me.
The error code you are getting implies that WU cannot access the servers at MS.

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM Premium' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Quarantine everything it finds

Afternoon all,

I am having some issues with Windows Update in relation to the IE10 & IE11 updates. I have just installed a new SSD and a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. All other updates have come through successfully except for these 2.

I have looked through some of the MS pages to determine the problem but i am still at a loss. I have followed the Windows Update Posting Instructions and attached the results below.

I am new to this so please be gentle ...

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can render.

A:IE10 & IE11 - Windows Update Issues - Code 9C57 & 9C47

Quick Update,

As it was a clean install of Windows I decided to format and have another go. This time everything worked fine with no failed updates.

The only thing I did differently was that I removed 3x2gb of ram that I recently installed. I had 6x2gb the first time round.

Don't know if this has anything to do with the errors I got but thought I would throw it out there anyways.

Thanks

Graham

Hi folks

I found my way here after being unable to update to IE10 on Windows 7 (32)

the windows update error is:

"Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7
Installation date: ‎09/‎05/‎2013 10:22 AM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 9C59
Update type: Optional"

I have attached the CBS.zip file. (NB: when I pasted the copy of CBS folder to my desktop I got an error message that access to CBS.log was denied. Maybe this is normal?)

I'd be most grateful for any help you can give.

Regards

Chris

the copy/paste problem is common - which is one reason why I tend to prefer just collecting the CBS.log file on its own.
Copy the C:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log file to your desktop, and compress it, then upload that.

Windows update for IE10 on Windows 7 64bit fails continuously with error code 9c59. I tried the stand alone updater with the same results. All other windows updates complete successfully, it's just IE10 that continually fails.

Don't know if this is related but I do have problems with IE8 (current browser). After a while, an open IE window will become non responsive and can't be closed out. I have to use task manager to close it down. I have sent off the reports to MS, but no solution has appeared.

I've attached the cbs file. Let me know what else I can do. Thanks.

A:Windows update for IE10 on win7 64bit fails with error code 9c59

There are no significant file errors in either SFC or CheckSUR logs.

In these cases, it has sometimes been a solution to uninstall IE9, reboot a couple of times, and then reinstall IE9 again, before installing IE10 successfully.
It's worth a try

I appreciate any suggestions!

My XP is REALLY outdated... so I opened internet explorer and checked for updates. It told me that there was a better version of windows updates and to use it, i need to install the components. HOwever, i tried installing about 5 times, and it all failed.... Can anyone tell me how to fix this prob.?

Components i'm trying to install: Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 (KB842773)

BTW, this is the details that is included with the components: This software updates the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) to v2.0 and updates WinHTTP. These updates help ensure an optimal download experience with future versions of Automatic Updates, Windows Update, and other programs that rely on BITS to transfer files using idle network bandwidth.

If it matters I have an Alienware M x R Anyway I was having some troubles with my laptop recently so I decided to reinstall Windows After starting it back up the screen was a lot dimmer Solved: BIOS failed Updating than it normally is even on max brightness So I tried updating my BIOS to see if that would fix anything and I received the following error message when I launched the updater Failed to Retrieve system BIOS information BCPSYS block signature was not found Error code - Also the version of BIOS I have right now is A where as the latest is A So Solved: Updating BIOS failed do any of you have any idea how I could get around this problem EDIT I was able to update the BIOS the problem was that the version I was downloading was for the R not the R For whatever reason the Dell website had it listed under the same thing even though they re completely different Anyways I did get the BIOS for my laptop and it installed fine So the initial problem is fixed however I m still having problems with the brightness Any clues as to what might be causing it nbsp

A:Solved: Updating BIOS failed

A BIOS should be updated only when the update specifically states that it will correct the problem you are experiencing.
Updating the BIOS blindly in the hope that it might fix the problem is never a wise move considering that a bad BIOS update can turn your expensive PC into a dead brick.

There are no settings in the BIOS which have anything whatsoever to do with the display brightness so I'm not surprised it didn't change anything.

It is more likely to be caused by a bad/corrupted graphics driver or a faulty hardware problem (the screen, or a component it relies on).

A:40 or more IE10 tabs open after typing in Outlook or IE10

Yep...sure enough there was no other users out there with similar problem so must be something unique to equipment.

PC was set up with HP wired Keyboard and mouse...no issues after testing installation. New Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse was issued and after a while (few days) problem began to appear.

F1 key was sticking. Beat it up a bit and problem gone. Hold down the F1 key and same problems...multiple browser windows opening, help windows opening etc depending on application you are in. haha...stupid. To think... blamed windows 8 for this problem when it is only everything else that is wrong that is windows 8 fault.

Seems like this is an old error code for a virus or malware. You should thoroughly scan your computer for such. Then run your updates.

Is there a way I can get it to stop asking me to update this update? It is driving me crazy.

Yes if it is just that update you want to disregard - let it come down through Automatic Updates -- then right click on it and check the option to "Hide" the update.

Hello and welcome to the sevens forum.

Some times this error code means you have some sort of malware in your system.

First run a full scan using your security software and if you don't have malwarebytes on your computer please download the free version and run a full scan as well.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

A:Scores of updates FAILED updating after fresh install of W7 Pro 32 bit

Hi,
Personally I'd start over,
There are essentially 3 updates needed for a clean install of windows that will get you updated through April of 2016

KB3020369 & KB3172605 & KB3125574 all can be downloaded from the M$ catalog using internet explorer
Microsoft Update Catalog

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/...ows-7-and-8-1/

To manually install them you will need to ensure the build in windows update service is stopped and disabled first.

If you don't want to start over just make sure KB3020369 & KB3172605 are installed and reset the update system
Use Option 2 on the list after right clicking it and select run as administrator
https://gallery.technet.microsoft.co...Agent-d824badc

Download it to your downloads folder
Right click it and select Extract all to the downloads folder.
Then right click ResetWUEng and select run as administrator
Follow the rest of the prompts
Press any key to continue
Type 2 for that Option on the list and the Enter key to reset update services..
Press y for Yes and then the Enter key I believe twice
After it has completed
Type 15 for that option and the Enter key to restart the machine.
Should say will restart in 60 seconds save your work.... press any key to continue.
After restart go to windows updates and manually check for updates shouldn't take a few minutes.

In a recent post I asked about Windows update error code 0x80070005.
After repeated attempts, was unable to install. Microsoft tech also could not
successfully install using Windows update system.
Told me she would have to install manually, not using Windows update, which she was
able to do. I was unable to understand her(language barrier problem) when i asked
what she had done.
Does anyone know the procedure or software needed to do this?

Thanks..

On Aug 27, 2012 my system first indicated it had a problem because it could not install updates. The update history is completely gone even though it had installed many updates since first being activated.

I've done searches and completed all the usual steps with no success. These include
Microsoft automated "Fixit"
Clearing the update history folder.
Memory tests - run all weekend with no errors.
Chkdsk with surface scan - no errors.
Admin Cmd Prompt-> SFC /SCANNOW (exits after a few seconds with "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.")
Windows Repair Install (Fails with "Windows cannot copy files ... 80070241"). I've tried it using the genuine original installation DVD and also tried it using the "flat" install method with no luck.
MS Security Essentials and MalwareBytes both say there are no threats. I'm all out of spit and bailing wire. Any suggestions?

A:Windows 7 no longer updating, code 80070002

First try this.
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the C:\Windows\System32 folder. find the Catroot2 folder there, and right-click on it - select Properties.

In the General tab, clear the box beside 'Read-only (Only.....' by clicking in it until it's empty (it cycles around three values)

Click Apply.
Accept any warnings that come up - if you get a 'Ignore/Ignore All/Try again' option, pick 'Ignore all'

Once complete (may be almost instantaneous),

try an SFC /SCANNOW again

Hi guys,

I am having problems on my computer and I was hoping someone can help me out.

I cannot update windows going either through the update or manually through Microsoft website.

When I try to update my computer this error comes up

Error(s) found:

Code 80072EFD Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I have tried to download various files from the official Windows Vista update website (Vista Service pack2, Update readiness tool), but when it comes to downloading the file it goes to Megaclick website everytime not allowing me to get any files that I may require to sort out this mess.

Thanks for your help

recently I have been unable to install vista updates and have consistently received the error code 800700C1 over several attempts

I read through this thread http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217...p1-251666.html and have run teh sfc/scannow to find that there are some damaged files.

I have an installation disk but did not see the option to repair files before it would install all of vista so I was afraid to go any further.

I've attached the CBS.log which appears to be longer than what I've done as the dates from when i scanned are 11/1/2009 at the bottom and the date starts a week ago. If anyone could guide me what to do from here it would be much appreciated.

Some suggestions at my blog: http://usasma.vox.com/library/post/w...d-26feb09.html

I'd suggest first:
- go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
- then, at the top of the search box - right click on cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"
- then, go back to Start and type in "windows explorer" (without the quotes)
- then, at the top of the search box - right click on Windows Explorer and select "Run as administrator"

Then, go to the black Cmd.exe window and type:

net stop wuauserv

And press Enter
(you should get a message that the service has successfully stopped)

Then, go to the Windows Explorer window
and navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
And delete the contents of the folder.

Then, go back to the black cmd.exe window and type

net start wuauserv

And press Enter
(you should get a message that the service has successfully started)

Then try to update again (make sure all Windows Update stuff is closed before re-opening it.

Ok so I use to be able to download and install some updates, but few would actually install. But now Windows Update can't even search for updates to install. I have tried manual installations from the Windows update site and that doesn't work either.

This is very frustrating to me because I can never install important updates on this computer, even when I freshly reinstall Windows, and I have done so sevreal times.

A:Problem Updating Error Code 80073712

What MS say about this error:The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty in Windows Vista, or you receive an error message that includes the following code when you try to use Windows Update: "0x80073712"

Nothing to lose if also try this:The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty in Windows Vista, or you receive an error message that includes the following code when you try to use Windows Update: "0x80073712"
and this Fix for Vista SP1 install error 80073712 through windows update | Windows Reference

I found also sometimes help run checkdisk on startup -here you have tutorial how to do that Check Disk - chkdsk
You have to apply for all partitions
If nothing help and If you don't perform system restore try this:

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

sfc /scannow

when it will done create report

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear file sfcdetails.txt

next run CheckSur Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows Server 2008 R2 Release Candidate, and for Windows 7 Release Candidate
even if this tool won't resolve problem automatically it create logs:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

System also create logs -there is log C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log but this log is mostly too big
So download FireGenUL Altair Technologies Ltd.
place this file in C:\Windows\System32 and restart computer
next run cmd.exe and type

firegenul

Download also Process Monitor Process Monitor

run it and make log in *.PML format (File>>Save As) pack it and all logs upload on RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

because PM log will be too big to attache to post

I don't think there's any option here except a repair install - or a clean install if either you don't have the appropriate media, or the repair fails.

I am getting constant messages to upgrade from my Windows8 to 8.1.  Yet whenever I do this I get the error code Ox80070005. I have tried the fix recommended but still unable to upgrade. I notice that many others have had the same problem. Why do Windows
ask us to upgrade and then make it impossible to do so?!!
thanks for any advice

No DMP files included in upload Please use this method.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi,

Sorry if this has already been asked - I'm trying to catch up with developments and it seems easier asking rather than blundering my way between Metro and Normal mode.

For regular browsing I'm using IE10 from the normal Windows desktop. I find that if a program opens IE10, it opens the metro style IE10 (is that the right terminology?). For example, if I use Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation to go get some online themes, I get this metro-style IE10 opening.

Is there way to turn off the Metro style IE10, and just use the classic one?

Regards,
Golden

Hi HS5964,

If the 'Audio' has been working fine lately, you may try performing a 'System Restore' to roll back 'corrupt software changes': System Restore
Note: Please create a 'Restore Point' before attempting the 'Restore': System Restore Point - Create

If the issue persists, you may remove 'Audio drivers' from 'Device Manager' and try installing fresh set of drivers.
- Click 'Start' > Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotations) in 'Search box > Tap 'Enter' > Locate and Expand 'Sound, Video & Game Controllers' category > Right click and uninstall the 'Realtek related' driver > Follow through with the uninstall > Allow 'Windows' to restart > 'Windows' will install updates for the 'Realtek Audio' (You may also install drivers from the manufacturer website: Realtek) > Recheck the results.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

A:Windows 7 not updating to SP1 Window Update failing error code 800736B

Hello and welcome Greg now I am assuming you have 7 onboard and have been using it - or is it a new install and you are trying to get SP1 installed?.

If it is the latter then it is easily fixed using this tutorial
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
If you have data on the install then if it isn't too much just back it up and do the tutorial.

Just one thing make sure you only pick the version you have an activation code for as trying to get a higher version installed will end in grief.
