Windows Update constant failures, Error 800736B3

Q: Windows Update constant failures, Error 800736B3

Hello,

I seem to be running into a popular issue with Windows Update- 800736B3. WU is not completely broken, as it's still able to install updates to Security Essentials and non-system software (IE11, Office). All system updates, however, are failing. I've ran SURT and SFC scan, but both didn't report any outright errors. The logs should be attached to this post in the .zip

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Preferred Solution: Windows Update constant failures, Error 800736B3

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There are no errors in CheckSUR or the SFC scan, and nothing significant in the background CBS data.

Please post your C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file - it may tell us where the problem lies.

The error codes all relate to registry problems.
There's no errors in the posted logs - please post a couple of the CBSPersist logs, and the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.

Please also list the KB numbers involved.

Okay I currently have the CBS file compressing but here's the basic rundown of my problem: Updates fail to install and gives me error code 800736B3, no matter how I try to install them, one at a time, all at once, on shutdown, while computer is running, etc. It has continually asked me to run checkdisk when I turn it on and won't run unless I do, and when it does run, it deletes files that are Corrupted, I think? Has crashed my computer once this past week which made me begin to look into the issue

Edit- The file won't attach normally so I've uploaded it to a public Google drive.
Link for that is here. https://drive.google.com/folderview?...Tg&usp=sharing

I have a computer that has been failing to install the IE cumulative updates. It is now also failing to install the bundled security updates (KB3192391 for example). I have tried the system readiness tool, clearing out the database, manually installing,
removing/re-adding IE from Windows features, and running SFC scan. I cannot find a solution for error 800736B3. Anyone know any other things I can do?
This is for a business computer. Would I qualify for free Microsoft support? If I do, how do I start that process?

Hi,

This is my first post, and not all that clever with pcs, so apologies in advance if I've missed something out.

I have been getting this error code repeatedly when trying to install update KB2922229 for a couple of months now. Never had any problems before. Other updates were installing just fine, but I am now getting the same error code when trying to install update KB2871997. As both of these updates seem to be related to security, I am getting a bit concerned.

I have followed the steps in the Windows Update Posting Instructions, running SURT and an SFC scan. Logs attached.

Hope someone will be kind enough to help with this.

The SFC scan is clear - which in view of the above, is rather surprising.

Have you tried installing the updates again since running the CheckSUR/SURT?

If not, please do so, and let us know what happens - First do a check for Updates, and see if the updates appear at all - they may not.

Hello and welcome tenlakes mate I see you have done the sfc and I would suggest you run this as well if you haven't already
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2

just for another option you could run these they don't take long and will eliminate anything from that direction

(NB If one is running Kaspersky security it may rant about ADW - just ignore it or disable Kaspersky while the ADW is being used)

Please just zip two/3 files together and upload them separately, then do another 2/3 files.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for anumber of reasons)

I have lurked in this forum in the past - always finding answers. Thanks to all the experts contributing to this forum.

This time I joined so I could post, as I have been unable to find a solution to my problem.

I can install all updates except for SP1. I keep getting error 800736B3.

I ran the Update Troubleshooter, which claims to have repaired Win Update components - still same error.

I then successfully ran the hotfix KB947821. The same error occurs.

I ran sfc /scannow & no integrity violations were found.

I also tried again after a clean boot - same error.

I don't have a clue as to what to try now. Any suggestions?

Hello, I am having a small issue with Windows update. Windows 7 Home Premium, 64BIT OEM on HP Pavilion.

Window Update failing error code 800736B3

I have followed the SFC, update readiness, and clean boot procedures listed in the thread I linked above. I believe I have a SIMILAR issue (not the same).

Can anyone give me a light in the proper direction?

SFC found nothing, readiness tool ran and installed hotfix but did not fix issue. I also tried to install updates 1 at a time, to not avail, as well as the clean boot.

Based on my checksur log, I have the following:

Checking Package Watchlist
(f) CBS Watchlist Package Missing 0x80070002 Microsoft-Windows-Embedded-SKU-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~0.0.0.0 Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.2.9200.16521 Package registry presence failed, possibly an orphaned package on package watchlist

But I am unsure where to go or how to continue at this point. Any sugegstions?

Hi,

I'm stuck with 43 waiting updates and the update error 800736B3.
Tried now several approaches from the forum to get it resolved, but no resolution of the issue until now.

sfc /scannow reports no issues.

So I ran the upgrade pack to produce to cbs log.

Maybe one could give me a hint how or if it could be resolved somehow.

Thanks in advance.

For some reason I cant post an attachment "attach button doesn't respond, in fact none of them do", I'll add a reply to the thread to see if I can then.

I am trying to assist a friend in repairing their windows update problems. I've made progress- but I have 5 Important updates that refuse to install...

IE11 - 9C59
KB2937610 - 800736B3
KB2972211 - 800736B3
KB3032323 - 800736B3
KB2791765 - 800736B3

the SURT was run- and got most of the updates to work other than the ones shown above.
sfc /scannow said all files were fine.

SURT has been run 4 or so times- it's not shown any repairs after the first run... as I would expect.

I've looked through the log files, but I am not really sure what I am looking for to indicate what the problem is.

I have attempted to attach the CBS.Zip file but I got a 404 error each time I clicked "Upload". This must be due to the size of the file. Here is a onedrive link to the zip file.

A:Windows Update: 800736B3 and 9C59

The upload is 8 times larger than the forum's 8MB size limit on Zip/RAR files - which is why it wouldn't upload here

Your first run of CheckSUR had the following summary...

Quote:

The next was clear of errors - how did you go about fixing the C Mark errors, since CheckSUR wasn't able to do it?

The CBS.log file shows the expected errors for the updates (apart from the IE one)

This looks to me as if the install is actually stuck in a pending state, and you need to roll it back...

This is the command to run when booted offline at a Repair Environment command prompt

dism.exe /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

This is supposed to revert all pended updates, and hopefully allow the system to start again - assuming it works, do another Check for Updates before attempting to install the updates again.

Hello Ben Lutua,

I'd like to take a deeper look, but before we do it's crucial that you reduce your installed AV's to only 1. You currently have Norton and AVG installed. While it may seem to be added protection for you, more than 1 Anti Virus can cause conflicts and confusion between the AV programs as well as system instability. Please choose and run only 1 and uninstall the other via Control Panel-> Programs-> Uninstall or change a program

Reboot.

After you've done that, download rsit.exe and save it to your desktop.Double click on RSIT.exe to run it.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
If you do not see the info.txt you can find it in the C:\rsit folder. Please attach that .txt

Windows 7 Fail to Update: Code 800736B3 - Getting error on update CBS

A:Windows 7 Fail to Update: Code 800736B3

The SFC log seems incomplete, please run SFC /SCANNOW again
Windows Update Posting Instructions

Step 4 asks you to copy the CBS folder to your desktop and put it in a zip folder.
Upload the zip folder when you post again.

If the zip folder is too big for the forum, upload just the CBS.log from the CBS folder copy on your Desktop.
Please add your SF Systems Specs by following this tutorial: System Info - See Your System SpecsIn the System Manufacturer/Model Number field, manually type Desktop or Laptop adding it to the information already in the field.
Specify Custom Build as the manufacturer if it is not an OEM machine.
The tool does not fill in this information but it is very important if someone has to research drivers or hardware for your machine.
Log on to Sevenforums (SF) and let the tool fill in you System specs on your SF profile.

Full instructions are in the tutorial. It's a simple process and it makes that information readily available on your posts. You don't have to retype the information in any thread.

Click here to view your system specs on SevenForums.

Click on My System Specs in the lower left of any post by any member to see what is presented about their machine.

From the SFC report, it looks like it found a couple of errors in the .NET 3.5 installation - and fixed them (together with a faulty bmp file)
Have you also run a CHKDSK? - often a random error can indicat file system problems, so it would be worth running CHKDSK C: /R and seeing if that helps.

Niemiro hopefully will be around later to assist - but there's nothing in your reports that suggests anything specific he can do.s

Hi,

I tried a lot of things trying to resolve this issue but nothing worked.
I finally follow the procedure described on this forum, in the hope someone here can help.

I activated the Administrateur account (my system is in French) and ran the CheckSUR and Windows Update from this account as otherwise I can't access the CBS log file.
I joined the requested files,
Thank you by advance.

A:Windows 7/64 Home Premium Update errors 9C59 & 800736B3

Your SFC scan was clear - but the background CBS data shows some severe problems.
PLease run the CheckSUR tool, and post the results...

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

Hello,

As the title says, I am unable to successfully install the update KB2952664. I get the error code : 8004402F. Usually it wouldn't bother me but it just so happens that this update is required to upgrade to Windows 10, so I need to install it. Running an SFC scan shows no errors. I have attached my windows log.

Have never had Avast free home interfere with anything, but you can disable it to try the Updates by right clicking it's icon in system tray and "turn off real time protection"

I note that another recent thread on this error found by Googling also remains unresolved.

If you bought your Win7 retail, you are entitled to MS excellent tech support which will work the case through to satisfaction. Those Updates are standard and can wait a few days.

My Surface Pro (1st generation) is running Windows 10 and I have it set to update Windows automatically. It's been doing that fine. Recently though I noticed that it always offers me 'Update and shut down' instead of just 'Shut down'. So I let it update. Next time I use the machine and come to shut it down, it makes me update again. And while it's updating, it certainly looks like it's trying to update rather than just shutting down.
According to my Windows Update history, the last successful update was on 15th September. But it's listing no update failures either, which is suspicious.
Anyone got any ideas?

Microsoft has no publicly available information for error code 800736B3.
Other threads in Answers forums very strongly suggest that error code 800736B3 is a symptom of system corruption/damage, most often caused by, e.g., one or more Norton realtime-protection processes, an infection, and/or injudicious use of "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; Advanced SystemCare; AVG PC TuneUp; PCTools Optimiser; CCleaner).

A:Windows Update Failures

Try installing the (failed) updates one at a time. You may have to restart after each one.

Start - All Programs - Windows Update. It will probably give a list; if not do a "check for updates." Then un-select all but one and try to install that one.

Hi

I am running Win 7 Pro x64 on an HP Elite 7100 and have been having persistent issues with update failures - most updates fail and a few succeed but with no apparent pattern.

Running the System Update Readiness tool produced the attached log file. From what I glean it suggests that some elements of an earlier update (KB2443685) are corrupt.

I would be grateful for any help/suggestions to fix this issue.

Thanks

A:Windows Update failures

Hello Nick, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

Well done on uploading that log file.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems. If all goes well, then this *shouldn't* be too hard to fix. I shall create a special fix, just for your computer (to repair just those corrupt files) and show you how to use it.

Unfortunately, I am currently at work, and I can't create this fix while at work, but it is nearly the end of the day

Please give me just a few more hours, and I will be back with further instructions.

Please just hang on for a little while longer for me!

Is there a known (easy) method to resolve the issues it reports.

I suggest running this
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Then manually downloading and reinstalling the service pack.
Use Internet explorer for this even if you normally use a different web browser.

Hi Forum board,
is it just me or does every other IT support find the annoying when windows updates gives the message of "failure configuring windows updates reverting changes do not turn off your computer" why cant Microsoft just make it so if one of two windows updates failures it just reverts them and not the other load so you have to look at a laptop reverting changes for hours on end, and you can just fix the problematic updates and not have to go back over the other load that installed just fine.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/385554-windows-update-failures.html

For info:

When troubleshooting another issue, I looked through my Event Viewer logs. Under setup, I found an error indicating an update had failed to install.

(The Windows update "Hotfix for Windows (KB954708)" could not be installed because of an error: 2149842966 "" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live\.cache\9cd6e45f1c9e616\Windows6.0-KB954708-x86.msu" /quiet /norestart ")

In the WU update history, there was no indication of any failed update. I installed the KB from the MS web site and it installed nicely.

So, it it seems that lack of listings of failed updates in Windows Update is no bullet proof indication no installation failed.

Everytime I shutdown Windows 7 keeps trying to install the same two following updates but fails:

Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB976321)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB981726)

I keep getting the same error code for each install failure: 646

I have made sure the firewall is set correctly and I have also tried to install in safe mode as well.

Any suggestions as to how to get these to install or at least clear the Windows Update so that it quits trying to install these two updates?

A:[SOLVED] Windows Update Failures

Give this a try:

There are a number of things that can break Windows Update in Windows XP, including performing a repair/reinstall. For a fix, try these next steps:

Open Notepad or WordPad and copy/paste the following text:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml2.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
end

Save the file to your desktop as UpdatesFix.cmd (you'll have to click the "Save As Type…. Dropdown arrow on the right of the selection window and select "All Files" before you click the Save button).

If you'd rather not try the batch file, you can enter each line in the Run box one at a time and click OK after each one.

Double-click the UpdatesFix.cmd file; a command window will open, and you'll see a series of dialogue boxes saying DLLRegisterServer in *.dll succeeded. Click OK to step through the process.
Once all the dll's have been successfully reregistered visit the Windows Update site and try the Windows updates again to see if it works correctly.
Often you will have to download and install Windows Installer 3.1 and the Windows Genuine Advantage tool before you can download any more updates.
Windows Installer 3.1
Redistributable (v2) For Windows 2000 Service Pack 3; Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

An update for Windows Installer 3.1 is available for Windows Server 2003 SP1 and for the 64-bit editions of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898715/en-us

On rare occasions, a reregister will fail; in such cases, run sfc /scannow (have your OS CD handy) and then try again.

Other times, the reregistering will succeed, but Windows Update still fails. This can occur if the temporary folders of Windows Update have been corrupted. You can refer to these steps to rename these folders. Be assured the folders will be created again when you visit the Windows Update site again.

1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Run the following command in the opened window:

net stop wuauserv

2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir%\SoftwareDistribution and press Enter to open the temporary folder of the Windows Update engine. Then, rename the following two subfolders:

DataStore
Download

For example, rename DataStore to DataStore-old, and Download to Download-old.

3. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Run the following command in the opened window:

net start wuauserv

After you rename the above folders, please restart the computer in normal mode and visit the Windows Update site again.

If you are still having problems, post the specifics on this forum, and we will see if we can help.

Hi guys.

I was wondering if you could please help with a problem I have. I recently built a new computer from scratch but am plagued by constant BSOD errors since I installed Windows 7.

I have updated all my drivers, uninstalled programs that may not be compatible as recommended on other forums, but still the problem occurs.

I have attached my minidumps in the hope someone can help, or at least tell me what the problem is so I can try and resolve it.

I have ran the memory diagnostics tool and it passed with flying colours.

So far I know that the problem is coming from hal.dll, but that's all I can figure out.

Thank you very much for looking, any detailed information about my setup you should be able to see on my profile page.

A:Constant BSOD failures

Ok, using the excellent tutorial on this website I have managed to get the Microsoft debugging tool up and running and I think I have narrowed the problem down to the Microsoft USB driver.

Am I right?

If so, what can I do about this?

Currently I have the following plugged in to USB ports:
Microsoft InfraRed eHome remote receiver (automatic windows driver used)
Apple USB keyboard (automatic windows driver used) with 2x USB 1.0 ports on the sideMicrosoft mini wireless mouse receiver (automatic windows driver used) plugged in to one of these ports on the keyboard
The other port on the keyboard is empty

HP Printer which is mostly switched off when the BSOD occurs (HP driver package downloaded and installed from HP website - completely up to date)
Western Digital My Book Essential/Home 2TB external HDD (automatic windows driver used)
Are any of these devices known as problematic with Windows 7? I was pretty sure they weren't, but I suppose you never know.

Based on my specification and the drain coming from some of the above USB devices, do you know if my 500-watt power supply would be sufficient? I thought that might be the problem, but then surely the computer would just shut down entirely rather than have enough time to give me the BSOD and dump all the files?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

A few weeks ago, I started getting intermittent DNS lookup failures. I looked into it, and everything I found suggested switching to Google's public DNS.

So I switched to that in my router's settings, but I still had problems, albeit a little less frequently. Eventually I got fed up and forced my ethernet adapter's settings to default to those addresses too, in case my router wasn't pushing them to my computer for whatever reason.

Even after that, and several flushes, I'm still getting DNS lookup failures at least once an hour. It's driving me absolutely nuts. Sometimes, I'll open up my ethernet adapter options in the control panel, and as soon as I do, the internet comes back on.

Any ideas? Something on my end? Switch to OpenDNS?

Hi,

I have an Acer netbook running windows 7 starter...for several days each time I close the laptop there are updates that attempt to install but fails to do so for some reason...there are also issues of configuration, seemingly every time I start the laptop.

I have read the uploader tool page but before going through this process would like to ask why the laptop fails to update ? ...I recently got rid of any microsoft office programs...does this have anything to do with the failure to update ?

below are the updates that have failed several times ... sorry but the image is very small !

A:Windows 7 update failures and configuration issues.

It`s a couple of days since I posted the above but the updating failure continues...I`ve no idea if the failure is caused by this laptop not in fact having the required internal programs to ensure the updates are accepted...something is obviously not right.

edit ti add...maybe the laptop just doesn`t need these updates...?

Hi there.

I just recently bought asus notebook x550C i3 processor, had been working fine for a week. Then lost connection to Internet went to update and restart as updates were needing to be done. After appearing to complete the updates, it then said failure configuring updates, reverting changes do not turn off. It has now been on this screen for 3 hours. I have tried shutting down but when re opens it lands back on same page, with the loop going round and round. I have tried f9, as another forum said that should get me to menu to restore factory settings but that does not work, neither does windows key and r!

i am tempted just to take it back to tesco where I bought it and get new one unless someone can come up with a suggestion in next 12 hours?

appreciate your help.

Hello I'm running Windows on a Dell laptop and over the last day or two I've experienced an almost complete lack of functionality The entire system is freezing with increasing regularity to the point where I don't even get all the way through Windows startup before the machine becomes inoperable Sometimes this means I see my desktop and then can't open any applications Other times I get stuck after entering my password and before my desktop appears If I do get the desktop up ctrl-alt-del won't work to unstick me and sometimes displays an error message stating it was unable to access shutdown options I've tried running an Avast scan several times in safe mode and find it hangs after scanning GB of files Eventually it Startup Failures Constant Freezing and completes Constant Freezing and Startup Failures the scan without finding malware but indicating that some files could not be scanned I've also tried running Malwarebytes quick scan which at first came back clean but now is Constant Freezing and Startup Failures also freezing midway through Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks

Hi all. So I've been having every blue screen and OS failure under the sun for about a month now. Most failures seem to be memory related, (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL etc) and my problems did abate for a day or two when I reseated my memory but it got so bad that I had to do a refresh and then a clean install. However I'm still getting issues. I've been able to fix these issues with clean installs and replacing hardware in the past but I can't replace anything right now. I was hoping someone here could read the minidump files and tell me exactly what is wrong with my PC. Thank you.

A:Constant BSODs and OS failures - help with he minidumps please

Hi

Since you already did a refresh and then a clean install, chances of a software issue is highly unlikely. I would do a memory test before doing any other troubleshooting steps. To test the memory using the free tool Memyest86+ , please read instructions from the link below.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

You should run at least eight passes with memtest for an accurate result. Since it may take a long time to complete, you can leave the system running the test.

If there are errors detected during the test, stop it and read instructions from part three of the guide to find the faulty module.

Please help me in solving a windows update failure. I have windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64.

The two windows updates that fail are
System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821)
any Microsoft.NET framework both 4.5.2 (KB2901983) and 4.6.1 (KB3102433)

I found a similar thread and followed the steps in it, but no joy.
Performed SFC /scannow, but the WRP did not find any integrity violations. I tried to run the SURT tool (same tool as KB947821) by a manual download and run but it reports the "hotfix failed to install". So I don't have a SURT tool log to submit.

What's the next step?

Hi,

I am trying to update my Dell T1650 with some Windows Updates using Windows Update. 2 updates keep failing: KB971033 and IE 10 for Windows 7 x64 base system. I have tried Microsoft Fix It and other potential problem solving scenarios and when my PC reboots the fixes try to install but fail and the reverts back to its previous state. I have run sfc/scannow and no errors popup. I have also run SURT and even though the PC reboots I still run into the same failures. When the updates fail I get Code 80070BC9 and Code 9C57. I have attached the output from the CheckSur log but it shows there are corruptions in two KB packages: KB2522422 and KB2778344. This is a new PC and I am hoping these issues will resolve the issues I have installing iTunes 11 on it. Thank you for your help!

Have made repeated attempts to install SP-1 (KB976932) and all are failures. Installed System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821) and still fails.
The failure code I get is: 0X800F0826
Tried to attach the requested CBS-zip file but it is 11.4MB and apparently the max allowed is 8MB, so it failed also!
So probably not enough for any assistance Thanks!

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64-bit
Ran System Update Readiness Tool and SFC /scannow (no problems found in SFC, but it ran so fast I wonder if it ran correctly). Also I ran SFC several times, rebooted, and ran it several more times.

Here are the updates I tried to run and the error codes:
KB2862330 (Code 80073712)
KB2984972 (Code 80073712)
KB2894844 (Code 80073712)
Internet Explorer 11 (Code 9C57)

I tried to upload the CBS.zip file, but got "500 - Internal Server Error." The zip file is 9.5MB, and the table says a max of 8MB is allowed. Is it possible to shrink it more?

Thanks for any help!

Dear all

I've just rebuilt a machine using an SSD drive and did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Four updates are continually failing, and the update failures seem to cause windows to hang.
The KBs and error codes are:

kb2979570 - 80073712
kb2991963 - 80073712
kb3001554 - 80073712
kb3014406 - 80073712

sfc /scannow found no errors.

Here is the CBS log folder. Note that I've deleted all but the most recent cab as the compressed folder was over 45MB otherwise.

Thank you very much in advance for any help you can give.

Getting a bit concerned about something which keeps cropping up.

I get persistent audit failures that are being logged.

Code Integrity determined that the page hashes of an image file are not valid. The file could be improperly signed without page hashes or corrupt due to unauthorized modification. The invalid hashes could indicate a potential disk device error.

File Name: \Device\HarddiskVolume3\Windows\System32\sxs.dll

Is sxs.dll that Side By Side?

Might explain the constant Event ID 72

Activation context generation failed for "c:\program files\microsoft security client\MSESysprep.dll".Error in manifest or policy file "c:\program files\microsoft security client\MSESysprep.dll" on line 10. The element imaging appears as a child of element urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1^assembly which is not supported by this version of Windows.

Could this be down to Microsoft Security Essentials doing it's business?

If so, can you suggest a good free alternative AV?

Earlier this week I did an upgrade on my laptop from home premium to professional and now I have 4 updates which continually fail. I've been searching around for a solution and there appear to be several other folks who have reported similar problems on this forum and received good results. I tried to infer the solution from previous posts by copying some missing files into the winxsx and packages directories, but they did not seem to help.

I've run sfc and uploaded the log - no errors.

Hello mmertel and welcome to the forums

You copied one file that you shouldn't have, and you also copied it into the wrong folder, but fortunately the SURT has corrected the mistake:

Code:
(f) CBS MUM Corrupt 0x00000000 servicing\Packages\update.mum Expected file name Package_for_KB976932~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514.mum does not match the actual file name

(fix) CBS Paired File CBS File also Replaced update.cat from Cabinet: C:\Windows\CheckSur\v1.0\windows6.1-7601-x64-clientcab4.cab.
Aside from that, you have fairly substantial damage on your computer which we will need to fix. The two files that the SURT has picked up as having an incorrect name can be safely ignored, this is merely a bug in the SURT.

I have two e-mail services - my ISP Plusnet and my hosting company amp The Plusnet service has always been rather intermittent and so I generally don't use it while the amp service is very reliable and that's what I generally use I still need to have MailWasher Pro which is my regular mail checker and spam filter check the Plusnet e-mail account as the odd things do come from there Some few weeks ago the Plusnet account ceased to work properly for me becoming inaccessible to mail checks from MailWasher or indeed FossaMail or EmailTray a small e-mail client that I temporarily installed just to see if yet another e-mail client had the same issue on my system Usually but not always it would be impossible to send mail through my Plusnet Plusnet server failures... e-mail impasse - login My with constant account while I was unable to check for incoming mail Sometimes but usually not after a reboot the problem would be cleared for some to minutes after which it would My impasse with Plusnet - constant e-mail server login failures... resume and continue to the end of My impasse with Plusnet - constant e-mail server login failures... that computer session When I start a new computer session after a power switch-off - no standby or hibernation here the issue is usually but sometimes not cleared for My impasse with Plusnet - constant e-mail server login failures... - minutes before resuming If I switch the router off and then on again the issue is usually but not always cleared again for some - minutes before resuming I have no problems accessing my Plusnet mail through their webmail service but I generally don't wish to use webmail much preferring to use my favoured e-mail client s on my own computer I've consistently had no such issue with my amp mail I have naturally been onto Plusnet support about this issue but they insist that they can find no problem on their side and that I'm the only customer reporting this issue so they say it must be something on my side and they recommended that I try different client programs and different devices Well I've already been trying with different clients all with the same results As for different devices no-go I just have my Win x Pro desktop PC and no other devices Clearly there can't be anything particularly wrong with my e-mail settings which in any case Plusnet Support agreed were correct because I'm able to connect for a bit of the time When I briefly tried EmailTray it provided slightly more informative error messages than MailWasher or FossaMail saying quot Socket error Connection timed out quot Can anyone offer a properly informed suggestion of what the cause of the problem is likely to be and a fix for it -- Many thanks

A:How to fix the error codes 80072EFE and 800736B3

The 80072EFE error is simply a bad internet connection - although that can be due either to physical problems or software interferences by malware, firewalls, etc.

The 800736B3 error is somewhat different.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data.

Hello!

I have tried several days to run the KB3000869 update to my Win 7 laptop without success. It always fails and the error code is every time 800736B3.

I have run ccleaner, sfc /scannow, SURT and several other tools but none of them has helped.

My CBS logs can be found here:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/n2sh16

Can you help me?

Regards,

Jari

Im getting this error code 800736B3. Can anyone help me.

A:error code 800736B3 installing SP1

Put the win7 disc in and choose upgrade then after that it will restart.

After you have acepted the upgrade it will allow you to install the sp1 .

Once win7 has upgraded ,but still keeping your system in tact ,will start the whole update process. After about a hour or two of updates it will install sp1 with no issue .

Also if you are useing a highend gaming card virus protect etc it might keep it from installing as well

I am running Win Pro SP x on my Macbook Air using Parallels One VM is working perfectly and is accepting all updates the other suddenly stopped accepting updates starting July I have checked Seven Forums Microsoft and Googled and tried all the suggested things NoelDP seems to be successful at helping folks resolve their issues I've run SURT a number of time in different combinations restart no restart SFC scan did not return any problems I cleared the updates and the downloaded files The error codes are all B there were a few others that have disappeared since I tried the different methods to resolve see screen shot from My CBS zip file is MB and to big to upload I will - Error resistant to solution 800736B3 attach a log file that I copied I noticed that some of the KB in the list of pending updates are for x but that does not seem completely unusual I manually downloaded and installed and X and it failed too KB There is a screenshot of update history included I will gladly post Error 800736B3 - resistant to solution all the links that I used if desired Your help is appreciated because I must have spent hours configuring this VM of Windows before it started failing the updates

A:Error 800736B3 - resistant to solution

I have uncovered something that may help with the issue.
Using https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/827218 the automatic detection says I have 32-bit OS but when I check manually it displays that I am using a 64-bit system. See attached images
