Failed to install 9 updates: Error Code 80070308

Q: Failed to install 9 updates: Error Code 80070308

Hi,

Since 10/07/2014 I am having serious problems with 9 updates in Windows Update.
I just took a look at some other topics in this forum section and it seems I am not the only one having these problems.

I've already tried several things i've found on the internet, but nothing really nothing worked out for me.
I've tried the hotfix, didn't work out; i've tried multiple CMD commands, didn't work out; i've tried to rename the catroot2 folder, didn't work out either...

Is this problem common? Because most of the updates are important; so i'd like them to be installed and they keep on failing every day since then.

If I need to post or upload something, please tell me, because i'm not a computer expert ;-)

Thanks in advantage,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please open an elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command,

REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
REG QUERY HKLM\COMPONENTS

post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier

1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Good Afternoon,

I am also having problems installing updates with the error code 80070308.

I have spent this afternoon reading the other posts and following the Windows Update Posting Instructions thread so hopefully I've gathered has much info as I can.

I downloaded and ran the System Update Readiness Tool. Once the installation was complete I tried to reinstall the updates. This resulted in the successful installation of: Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) but the failed installation of the other 9 updates as before.

Attachment 325390

And I received the following error code.

Attachment 325391

I then carried out the sfc/scannow which all came back OK.

Attachment 325392

I have saved the logs as a zip file but its too big for me to upload (12.5MB)? Any suggestions?

I hope I have not missed anything out. But please bear with me if I have.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Kerry

This is becoming a common problem with the latest batch of updates - MS are looking into it (we are led to understand)
I'll add this thread to the action-list for our contact.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Hi greymatters It's normal for certain Windows Updates to fail when you install all of them at the same time. Did you try to install them individually or at least bit by bit and not all of them together?

I have been unable to install Windows updates since mid-December, and now have some 11 outstanding.

My machine is a 5 year old Acer Aspire M3910 64 bit Intel Core i3 CPU 540 @3.07GHz with 8GB RAM running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.

I have downloaded and installed the System Update Readiness Tool from the Microsoft site. However the CBS.zip file generated from the CBS file produced by running this tool is some 12 MB in size and falls foul of the 8MB limit imposed by the forum, and I cannot attach it. How do I get over this?

I have also run SFC /SCANNOW, but it identified no issues.

Help to resolve this updating error would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Also...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

So, I have been getting code 80070308 for the last month. I did try windows "fix it", Downloaded "SURT" and ran SFC as Admin. I even tried a clean boot running only Windows programs at startup.... nothing. Still getting the error.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

zephychan,

Are you having problems with Windows Update also?

Please do the following:
Downloading Farbar Service Scanner

Save to the Desktop.

Make sure the following options are checked:Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender
Press: Scan

FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.

Please provide the FSS.txt in your reply.

Also, let's see what your system shows with the following short scan...

Please download RogueKiller:
http://tigzy.geekstogo.com/roguekiller.php

Select the 32-bit version for your system.
Click the dark-blue button to download.
Save to the Desktop.

Close all windows and browsers.
Right-click and select: Run as Administrator

At the program console, wait for the prescan to finish. (Under Status, it says: Prescan finished.)
press: SCAN

When done, a report opens on the Desktop: RKreport.txt

Please provide the RKreport.txt (Mode: Scan) in your reply.

Hello,
I have been trying for sometime to fix this problem of failed updates. I have been in touch with microsoft and followed all their instructns this is where i am at. The last thing i did was to rename the file for updates. This did not work but has wiped clean all my update history and since then i am not recieving any updates at all, previously i was getting some but not the security updates.

I have also run all malware progs etc and do not detect any virus or anything

I am at a loss now on my next course of action i have not recieved any further instruction form microsoft
Any help would be appreciated thanks

A:Failed updates error code 80070490

Hi Welshwizard,

The error does indeed say that the file managing Windows Updates, the file that contains all relevant data as to what updates are installed, when they were installed etc, has been corrupted.

As I don't know what instructions you were given by them;

1.
Open up an elevated administrator Command prompt.
Run this command:
sfc /scannow
Let us know the results.

2.
Insert the Installation DVD.
Reboot the machine > Run the automatic repair.

3.
Boot the machien into Safemode with Networking, see what the updates says.

These four security patches KB 2518869, KB2572077, KB2633873, KB2656356 repeatedly fail to install with errors 800B0100 and 80070308.

This started on since 23 March.

Win 7 SP1 was installed on 21 March 2012
I have run the Microsoft FixIt and the System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821) but no change.

Looking for any guidance on how to install these four updates.

Some background info...

There's no obvious problems (apart from your errorcode) in any of the data posted.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)
Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.

Alright First of all thanks to those who at least read this I'll also start by saying this isn't my first attempt at resolving this The first try left me beaten Code Error 643 Updates Failed: .NETFX Multiple broken bruised and I gave up So lets recap there About months ago I attempted to install a NETFX update believe it was I received error code I let it go for a week or two until a program required the update So I tried several quot fixes quot from Microsoft to resolve The final attempt being to uninstall ALL of NETFX and manually re-install each one individually I waited a few more days for that one Finally went to give it a go I made a list of the packages I needed to re-install and then Multiple .NETFX Updates Failed: Error Code 643 used the cleanup tool to remove them all Finished the uninstall and then restarted Reboot Attempt a manual install NETFX cannot be installed error code I tried and tried and tried and tried but nothing Finally I just gave up I still use the computer everyday but the errors are piling up Little things not working anymore and performance has taken a pretty major hit The only resolve I could find if the previous steps didn't work is to format and install That's not really an option My hard drives are sorted and there's pieces all over There's well over applications that I CONSISTENTLY use and many are LARGE and would take DAYS o re-install I didn't then nor do I now have the time to do that I realize my options are cut really short at this point but I'm wondering what all my options are I need the registry to stay mostly in tact I thought about upgrading to windows which I'd rather not do in hopes it would resolve it but I'm really not an fan Not hating for those that do but I like The other option I heard was an overlay install Essentially using the install disc to quot upgrade quot over the OS I like this option but it seems certain information doesn't transfer though I haven't clearly understood what does and what doesn't get transferred The last options are slim Somehow figure out how to fix the update process or magically hope start up repair will resolve Thanks to anyone who read this wall of text and thanks in advance if anyone responds I love my computer almost to a crazy level but I'm almost to a point of unplugging it and walking away I hope someone has an answer Has anyone else had similar issues Were you able to resolve it I could include my windows log files but some are miles long from other issues WU gaves the same error for all failed updates Error Code SURT has been stuck at around for quot Installing Hotfix for Windows KB update of quot

Suddenly Windows 7 has stopped installing Windows Updates. It downloads, then creates restore point, starts installation, but then comes back with the error code 800F0900. This happens with all the updates when carried out individually, critical or optional. I first went through the process of clearing all the Start-up Programs in the Services section of msconfig. As that did not solve it I then stopped all but MS services, and that did not solve it.  I tried the Microsoft .NET Setup Verification Tool. This said there were problems that it could not fix and sent a report to Microsoft.  Following an earlier thread on this site, I installed and used the Windows Repair program from Tweeking.com. This failed to solve the problem. Does any one have any other possible advice to help solve this problem ?

A:Windows Updates will not install. Error code 800F0900 for all updates.

I would try running the System Update Readiness Tool:  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858 .

Make a copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log (otherwise you can't open it)
Post that file and C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log as well

Zip them to make it smaller

Have you allowed Windows Update to run automatically to get all the previous updates? it should follow on to install SP1 automatically without intervention.

Hi,

I recently reinstalled windows 7 on my computer after experiencing many crashes and update failures. Windows update succesfully installed all the other updates except for service pack 1. I've tried Microsoft fixit tool and Windows system update readiness tool. I've also tried clean boot, disk check, SFC... all without success.
I really don't wish to reinstall windows again for the 100th time
Appreciate your help.

I just got a new Dell Inspirion laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium Service pack 2. As usual there were several Windows Security updates that needed to be installed. Took two days to install them all. Or I thought all had installed. But after Secunia PSI kept insisting that no updates were installed, I checked the update history and found several had failed to install. All have the same Error code of 800F0902

I ran Microsoft Fixit tool, which said it detected no problems. But obviously that too failed.

The list of updates that failed are too numerous to report but here a few:

KB2909210

KB2656356

KB2789645

KB2756921

Most seemed to have to do with the Net Framework 3.5.1.

Does anyone have a clue how I can resolves this? Most importantly is my new Dell a lemon?

Thank for your time,

I've uploaded a file - cpyaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder cpyaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

... as far as the Windows 10 notification is concerned, I don't think it's related, but it's possible.

A:Windows Updates won't install, Error Code: 80070005

Hi Vista32,
Thats not good reading.
Most system security experts would advise a complete RE-install of any OS compromised by a Rootkit, but you, from your own admission, have had few.
Iam NOT a security expert but in this case I WOULD, if you can identify them, look them up at BleepingComputers they have an excellent catalogue of Rootkits and there impact/removal.
Just removing them does NOT allways guarentee a clean system.

Having said that SFC has done a pretty good job of repairing some of whats been infected/changed, but it is advised to run it 3x.
From what i can see there are certainly still some errors, in Windows media player, and there are likely to be others
SURT can take >>hours<< to run especially on a previously infected system, as it also makes repairs as it goes along

You can run the troublshooter, if you want.

Hi - welcome to the forums!

Hmmm - Invalid Class error - that's a VERY rare error in your MGADiag report.....
It appears to be caused by a broken WMI store.

Please run the following commands,

Net stop winmgmt /y
Net stop wscsvc
MD c:\wmibackup
DIR %systemroot%\System32\Wbem\Repository
MOVE %systemroot%\System32\Wbem\Repository\*.* c:\wmibackup
DIR %systemroot%\System32\Wbem\Repository
NET start wscsvc
Net start winmgmt
Net start iphlpsvc

WAIT 10 minutes for the store to rebuild, then reboot.

Hello,

For the last couple of months I have been unable to install updates on Windows 7. I try to look for updates but it gives me this error:

(It's dutch but you get the idea)

I searched the code on google and most results told me to sync my time. My time is correct, yet I still get the same error code everytime.

Is there anyone who can help me with this?

In the Control Panel, is your time zone correct? If you have DST is that set properly?

Did you run this first

Use the System File Checker tool to repair damaged Windows files. To do this, follow these steps:
Open an elevated command prompt.Run the "sfc /scannow" command.Try to install update again.

Hey all,

I am interested in testing out the Windows 7 Release Candidate, my Windows Update detected it as a important update, I tried to install it through Windows Update twice, always failing with the error code "80073701". I have no idea why this is happening, and I haven't changed any important system settings.

Thanks for the help !

Hello rradavich I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions..I would like you to run this program for me.Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.Press Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply..I would also like to get some extra information on one of the files on the computerRun FRST like you did before and Type the following in the edit box after "Search:".rpcss.dllIt then should look like:Search: rpcss.dllClick Search button and post the log (Search.txt) it makes to your reply.Gringo

There doesn't seems to be for me a way of installing this update (KB2858725), i tried with windows update and downloading the installer from microsoft?s website. i tried some things related with the permissions but i don't have a clue what to do.

I attach the logs if someone has some time to spend on it

A:Net Framework 4.5.1 install failed. Code 643

I have had this before and I found it was prom a lack of permissions.

Had the same problem with .NET framework 4.5.1 update; the problem turned out to be that the C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Net Framework directory didn't have the right permissions to be able to be written to by the installer. I simply created the directory and set permissions on all C:\Program Data directories to "SYSTEM: Full Control", "Administrators: Full Control" and "CREATOR OWNER: Full Control." Next time I used update it worked perfectly.

KB2360937
KB2360131

Googleing them and checking what they contained it seems as if i should be able to install then (not the wrong sp or anything) and they seem fairly important. Anything i should/could do?

Hi fellow windows 7 users. I am stuck in a very bad situation. I had done a clean install of windows 7 a few days ago on my laptop and set the updates to automatic. It installed few updates and then asked for restart and successfully installed those but now its stuck.
It has 94 updates pending including SP1 it installs and asks for a restart for finishing but after restart it says that it failed and reverts all the changes.

I tried Microsoft's fix it tool but that didn't fix it. Then I tried system update readiness update and manually installed it but even after that updates fail to install.
Is there any way I could solve this?

The error which windows update shows are

Error= 800B0100
Error 643
Error 80092004

If you run Windows Update and some updates fail to install then it could be that your firewall got in the way.
I have Win2000 and tried to install KB893066, KB893086 and KB890859 and they all failed. But tried it again after closing down Zone Alarm and they installed.

I got a new PC with Vista Home Premium installed and started updating windows and installing programs, but about half of the updates downloaded but failed to install.

Windows update says that the PC is up to date even though in the update history lots of the updates say failed under status. In installed updates the successful ones are listed are expected.

How can I install the many updates that failed as they are important?

I tried stopping the windows update service and renaming the Sofware Distribution file in the Windows folder but that did not work - all that happened is that the update history list was cleared.

I also tried a fix on another website using the cmd console but it just said access denied - the shift-ctrl-enter would not work!

Does anyone have any ideas?

I had updates available for windows 8.1 on my laptop last night but they failed to install and then my computer tried to restart and it can up saying 'We couldn't compete the updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer' but then it stayed like that for a long time. After force restart, the same message still comes up and it's been there all morning. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series. Can someone please help? I can't get past this screen at the moment.

A:Computer not turning on updates failed to install

That is a known issue with 8.1 after a failed update, it takes forever to undo and get back to normal, you should not have forced a restart. Boot the machine with the Windows installation DVD and at the 'Install now' window use the ' Repair my computer' link. Wait until it is done, then reboot.

I am trying to install two recent security updates (KB2656370 & KB2656353) and keep getting error code 643 with the updates failing to install.

I have tried the following fixes to no avail:

1) Fix MSI software update corruption issues (Microsoft Fixit 50123)

2) Repair the .NET Framework

3) Reset Windows Update components and then try updating your computer (Microsoft Fixit 50202 - Default only, I am a bit afraid to try the "Aggressive" option!)

The above methods were detailed on Error codes

Any idea what I should do next? Someone somewhere has suggested they should be installed manually - how do I do this?

A:Code 643 when trying to install security updates

Do you have service pack 2 installed? Have you tried the manual download? Have you disabled you antivirus software? Try SFC first System Files - SFC Command

Like many times in the past, windows had been prompting me to install updates. I selected the option to install these updates before I shut my computer down. My screen would read "installing update 1 of 3" or something similar, but that would stay on that screen for hours until I would perform a hard shut down. This happened several times before my computer simply stopped starting up. System Restore doesn't work and neither does anything else. A Startup Repair message flashes on my screen saying "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically. If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this message contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance."

Please help

A:Scores of updates FAILED updating after fresh install of W7 Pro 32 bit

Hi,
Personally I'd start over,
There are essentially 3 updates needed for a clean install of windows that will get you updated through April of 2016

KB3020369 & KB3172605 & KB3125574 all can be downloaded from the M$ catalog using internet explorer
Microsoft Update Catalog

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/...ows-7-and-8-1/

To manually install them you will need to ensure the build in windows update service is stopped and disabled first.

If you don't want to start over just make sure KB3020369 & KB3172605 are installed and reset the update system
Use Option 2 on the list after right clicking it and select run as administrator
https://gallery.technet.microsoft.co...Agent-d824badc

Download it to your downloads folder
Right click it and select Extract all to the downloads folder.
Then right click ResetWUEng and select run as administrator
Follow the rest of the prompts
Press any key to continue
Type 2 for that Option on the list and the Enter key to reset update services..
Press y for Yes and then the Enter key I believe twice
After it has completed
Type 15 for that option and the Enter key to restart the machine.
Should say will restart in 60 seconds save your work.... press any key to continue.
After restart go to windows updates and manually check for updates shouldn't take a few minutes.

So today I downloaded and installed some Internet updates install after failed to slow gets windows windows updates which I think important but because of my internet connection was using USB modem it seems that some of the updates failed to download and I stopped it and then Internet gets slow after windows updates failed to install I installed the rest which successfully downloaded and logged back in and there was a notification stated that two updates were failed to installed but I ignored and continued to what I was working on and problem occurs i noticed that my internet connection became slow well usually my internet is fast at first i thought the connection problem was because of the provider's bugs usually when a problem shows up it was all the provider's fault i've checked the Internet gets slow after windows updates failed to install signal on the modem and they're no problem so I know it wasn't the provider this time but then i remembered the failure notice of the windows updates earlier and i became all suspicious it's true - the more you know the more you think thanks to this forum i learned a lot from here here are the updates that were failed to install Attachment Attachment I decided to roll back to earlier system restore points I regularly create my own system restore point where before the updates were installed I logged back in and tried my internet connection again and well it seems to be working fine for now I still feel that my internet's still somehow not back to its full state yet well I can just feel it usually when I surf through familiar sites such deviantart which is the best site to measure the internet connection for me when I accessed this forum too it wasn't as fast as before so was it true that the failure of the updates was the cause of my internet connection problems also I want to ask even if I have rolled back to the restore point before the updates were installed will the problem still occur if so is there a way to fix that problem i'm sorry if I did a mistake of the posting or I break a rule I'm still new here but I try my best to follow the rules and thanks in advance for all your help

Well, I fixed my problem. This has been frustrating, I'm glad its working
now! In short, here's what I did:

1. Formatted my Windows partition.
2. Reinstalled to this partition.
3. Logged in as a user, and then rebooted several times without doing
anything else, to ensure that all the Windows system and temp files are
created properly (rather than logging into an account and having it created
the user folders/files right then).
4. Right clicked on Windows Update --> Ran as Administrator (even though
my account was already an administrator).

It worked!

I think that perhaps in earlier attempts I had several other processes
running and the computer would lock up, so I would have to do a HARD reboot.
I bet there must be a Windows Update that fixes some driver problem,
instability problem with my installation (which has hence been installed,
naturally).
Doing the HARD reboot would not cleanly unmount the filesystem, and I think
Windows Update must like a clean filesystem (even though chkdsk would never
run upon the next reboot, making me think that all was okay...). Having an
unclean filesystem might cause Windows Update into loop somehow.

Anyway, try the steps above, I bet they will work for you too.
peace,
RF

I'm running Windows 7 x86_64 architecture, and I am trying to install Internet Explorer 10 via the Windows Update service (currently I have Internet Explorer 8 installed). This update is continually failing with a 9C59 error (screenshot attached). I have tried to update to Internet Explorer 10 manually via the .exe to install Internet Explorer 10 and it also fails (as does, IE 9).

I have also attached the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS directory as a .zip file. From this, it seems as though some repair files are missing, although I can't quite figure out where these are supposed to be, or from which package/update they should have been installed from.

Any help appreciated,
Jon

Seriously what the hell? I bought and clean installed my Windows 7 just two days ago. Since then windows update as downloading updates and yesterday evening I switched off the computer and it installed them all during shutdown. Today it was configuring updates for more then 5 minutes (no percentage changing) and then I just briefly saw "reverting changes" and my event log / administrative events is now flooded with Windows update client messages like "
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800705b4: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB976662)."
just now when I write this there is a popup "restart your computer to finish installing important updates" but there are no new messages in eventlog so I wonder what was installed (if anything) I will now restart and see...

A:New copy of Windows 7 failed to install ~100 updates and crashes on restart

It might be less time consuming if you start from square 1. That is, reinstall Windows 7 with SP1 and immediately turn off automatic updates.

When i did this, that's what i did. I then went and checked for updates. I systematically installed security/important by the dates. First 2011 then 2012 and since there were so many in 2013, I did the first 6 months then the last 6 months.

Since some updates have to be installed in a particular oreder, I figured doing it by dates would probably help installing patch a before patch b. Reboot between the installs and when you rescan, you may discover some updates have been removed whiles others have been added.

After all the important updates were installed, then I tackled the recommended using the same method. I rarely install optional updates and I never install MS's recommended hardware updates.

This is a Toshiba Satellite C650 laptop that has had a history of issues with updates.  Last year some updates began to fail and we could not get them to apply successfully.  Other issues occurred, bsod without warning, etc.  Finally in Nov/December I did the factory reset and then re-applied all of the updates successfully.  Things seemed to be working ok after that.  After a month or so the laptop was then out of the country and offline for around 4 months.  Shortly after coming back online it began to have issues with some updates, until now when it will not even successfully check for new updates.  Also occasionally blue screens again.  Also, if you select View update history, it says "you have not tried to install any updates for your computer"

We use ESET Nod32 antivirus and it hasn't reported any virus/malware issues.

Help!

Thanks

Ok so i've gone through this so many times now and search Google over and over again, did things that other people have tried and none have had any success.
I have 7 important and 5 optional and none of the important ever complete.
As the title says errors are code 57a and code 643
so if anyone could explain in step by step what i can do to fix this and complete the install i would be much appreciated.
I've tried so many things i can't really remember what exactly i've done so i'l just try whatever goes up and then see if it works.

For the last two weeks I have been unable to install windows updates. When I attempt to install updates the installation process appears to proceed normally cycling through the updates. However, once the process completes all updates are shown to have failed and the following message is displayed:

Code 80070308 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I have attached the CBS log data.

A:Windows Update Error 80070308

You appear to have IOBit software installed - I would suggest attempting to UNDO whatever it's done, and then uninstalling it completely.

As far as Windows Update is concerned...

Try this...
Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands...

REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
REG DELETE HKLM\COMPONENTS /V PendingRequired
reboot and then attempt Windows Update again.

I've been unable to download and install Windows 7 updates because I keep getting this error. Updates download, appear to be installing, but when I get to 100% this message keeps popping up.

I've seen people posting "fixes" but I'm also aware that sometimes these fixes are machine specific, and I don't want to get myself into more trouble than I already have.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

A:Windows Update Error 80070308

Suddenly today (7/9/14) Windows 7 has decided it won't update and gives the 80070308 error. I have tried Googling for a solution but can't seem to find much other than the RegistryReviver program pop up on all the threads. I use the free version of CCleaner to periodically clean up the Registry. The 80070308 error seems to be a common problem and has been around for a long time based on the items Googled. Before I restore the system from a backup from a month ago is there a better solution to this problem. I have attached a screenshot of the Windows Update Log. It would appear that one of the updates on 7/9 caused the problem? Help would be greatly appreciated.

I got this Error after trying to install July 2014 Updates. Some updates installed successfully though.
When I click retry it'll download again with slightly bigger size and 99% progress (The last time I click retry until about 200MB or so).

These are the logs and screenshots after I cleanup the SoftwareDistribution folder and retrying the installation some times
