Windows 7 Update uninstalled Skype

Q: Windows 7 Update uninstalled Skype

On September windows did an update and I had not rebooted since then until Skype Windows Update uninstalled 7 hours ago When I did I found that Skype was uninstalled When checked system restore it showed Skype set to be restored if went and did the restore point created by that update What I'd like to know is where the heck does Microsoft get the idea that they can dictate what software we run on our computers This is NOT the first time that a windows update has uninstalled another program but it is the last straw that makes me write this Skype is my MAIN link Windows 7 Update uninstalled Skype to family members some of which are in bad health so to have MS go and have their update uninstall it in my opinion is down right intrusive MS needs to stop trying to run a computer dictatorship and let people have Windows 7 Update uninstalled Skype whatever programs they want on their computers I am unsure if I want to let the update go next time as I have no idea what will get removed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well; Im not so sure that windows update necessairily uninstalled skype. It could be something else that did that. Have you checked the list of programs installed on your system to see if there still is any signs of it?

I uninstalled Skype months ago. Can I stop Windows 7 from trying to install Skype updates? I have a long, long list of "fails" in my updates. I suppose that all those attempts to install the update cannot be helping my laptop's performance.

All I find online is how to stop updates from WITHIN Skype. Impossible to do it the program is no longer installed.

Thanks in advance,

I have Lumia 730 windows 10 phone. In my app list skype shows its status as pending. There is no pending update for it. When I double click on it, stores opens with skype app. Store gives me option to launch skype and the it launches successfully. I uninstalled the app from settings->Storage, but it is still there in my app list showing it as pending. Store now gives an option to install.

I was not getting the "Get Windows 10" notification on my Windows 8.1 system. I checked for and found I had received the KB3035583 update in April that should have enabled this.

I thought maybe if I uninstalled and reinstalled the update, it might work, so I uninstalled it. But now when I run Windows Update, it does not sense that this update is missing - it's not listed as an available update, as I'd assumed it would.

How can I get this update reinstalled?

Before updating, a message was shown that updating will not delete any of my information or files but apps will be uninstalled. Upon restarting my laptop, my apps were uninstalled (and I just re-installed them) but my program files were also uninstalled. Yea, I can just install them all again but some program file that were uninstalled were my Microsoft Office that I paid for and the paid software that came preinstalled on my laptop (Like the webcam, movie editor, etc). I really need those software (especially office) but I do not want to pay for them. Would a system restore bring back those files? Is that the only way I can get those programs (and others) back?

I got carried away uninstalling programs and inadvertently uninstalled one of the XP service packs. Now when I restart the computer it just goes to a black screen. The computer will access the CD drive and the floppy drive during startup. I have a DOS disk on a floppy and I purchased a Windows XP System Recovery Disk on CD. When I use the recovery CD, I have the choice to repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console or to set up Windows XP now. When I choose to repair, it gives me this: 1: d:\MiniNT Which Windows installation would you like to log onto? Then I get a prompt d:\MiniNT> I don't know what to do from here. Any ideas? Also, when I choose to setup Windows XP it says it can't find a EULA and that Windows is not installed. Help!

Hi everyone,

Just need to know if whether or not it is normal for Windows Update to include an update for skype among the list of updates.

I've already hidden this skype update as I had planned to uninstall skype for so long but kept forgetting to do it.

Any comments and ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all and God Bless,

I recently did an unusually long Windows update that took about an hour in total, and once my computer was running again, Windows gadgets said "Windows Desktop Gadgets has stopped working" and then I tried to open Skype which also said "Skype has stopped working". I tried updating Java, a second Windows update, uninstalling and reinstalling Skype, advanced uninstalling Skype and reinstalling, but nothing I'm doing seems to be having any effect. I'm completely out of ideas, and was hoping someone could help me to solve this?

I don't use Skype. I uninstalled it. Windows Update keeps sending updates and marking them as 'important.' If I run the update I find I need to uninstall the program again.

I'd like reassurance that I can safely ignore these updates.

It makes sense to me, but software has gotten complex enough that I want to be sure that this update only updates Skype for Windows and that failure to implement it does not leave a gaping hole in Windows 7.

I have had issues since last patch Tuesday:
When I try to start Skype nothing seems to happen (no window opens).
Also IE does not want to connect to anything.
If I go to the options IE10 all except file and safety are greyed out.

I have tried resetting through the internet options in the control panel, check no proxies are set.
I have run 2 different "iefix " programs, looked in the event viewer (not sure what to look for, nothing obvious visible...)

I have uninstalled Skype and subsequently re-installed it.

My Firefox and Chrome are fine. I have done a system restore a few times which solves the problem, but as soon as updates are installed the same happens again.

I run W7 64 pro.

totally at a loss now, have spent 2 days trying to find what the cause is.

Would really appreciate if someone has any ideas!

many thanks, Jaap

October 15, 2011
Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)

After this update, a program was uninstalled (gone with no trace). The program had a screensaver option and I noticed it when the screensaver came up blank. Its shortcut was no longer on the desktop.

Two files I had created October 12th, and was working on were deleted.
I don't know if any other files were deleted.

The update before was October 11, 2011

This appears to be a rollback not unlike a system restore. Any ideas?

A:Update uninstalled program and deleted file

Welcome to the Windows Seven forum.

Did you install the package yourself? That update came through MS Update back in June. A previous release was in April. Perhaps you deleted some files or did a restore. Another posibility is that you loaded/installed a program with old redistributable files.

If you uninstalled Avira via Add/Remove Programs only, you might still want to run Avira's uninstall tool to be sure it has 100% uninstalled all tidbits scattered on your drive and in the registry to avoid possible future issues. Here's a link to the uninstall tool download site: running the uninstall tool, Avast probably would have installed OK for you. I run Avast and it sure is quick to notice those remnants of previous antivirus programs during installation. It just thought you might have two AV's on your system------a definite no-no. The AVG, if you're happy with it, could yet encounter problems if there are bits of Avira still in your registry or lurking elsewhere on your pc. I'd definitely run that Avira uninstall tool just to be sure. You might even want to do a search on keyword AVIRA and see if you have any files/folders Avira left, too, and delete them.

I use Skype you can get from; it's not Skype Preview that comes with Windows 10. That's junk, in my not so humble opinion.

I attempted to upgrade Skype from version, but got so far and was told "The specified account already exists." Next, I was told the upgrade failed. I tried at least four times, rebooted system, etc., but nothing worked.

I had nothing to lose, so I then uninstalled Skype and reinstalled it. Once that was done, I looked and was up to version, but I knew was out there waiting for me. So, I checked for updates, was told there were updates to be had, so, with a very reluctant mouse, I clicked and . . .

Whew, I am now up to version!

To be honest I cannot understand why webcam device disappears from device manager list after skype update.
I mean even if there would be a software problem (compatibility issues), the webcam should be listed in device manager even as an unknown device.

However, by default, certain devices are not shown in the list. To include hidden devices in Device Manager display, click View and select Show Hidden Devices.

However, I assume you are using Win 7 system.

On Toshiba EU driver page you can find the webcam software.
Maybe new Skype version damage something in registry. Would recommend uninstalling the Skype firstly. Download and install the repair tool like CCleaner. Clean registry and reboot the notebook. Now try to install the webcam software once again. Reboot the unit and check if you can use the webcam using installed webcam too.

A disabled recent Windows update has re-activated disabled start-up apps. I use Feem and Skype and both have the start-up command unchecked in their options and also in CCleaner but they persist in starting. It's no big deal but it is mildly irritating to say the leastThey don't start immediately on start up but given a minute or so they are sure to appear. I have read other posts where MS has re-activated start-up apps, always MS apps. Feem is not MS and I have no idea why it should start.Any suggestions will be appreciated and acknowledgedRegards

A:spam send in skype account to all skype contacts - cannot load page safety scan

I downloaded the safety scanner from microsoft from my other laptop without any issue.
copied it to a usb, put it on the problem laptop, a full scan and nothing found.
I realize I did had a antivirus paid version (kaspersky internet securuity) on the laptop, as I first said that it had no antivirus.
I only disabled it because it had problems running.
Now I enabled it, updated it and run a full scan. nothing found.
I don't know if skype is the cause and not a virus?  the skype workers told me that the cause could be anything (email, virus on computer).
I mostly use skype on iphone, and here I'm confused with what the skype workers said: one said that iphone can not be infected, so no need to check the iphone.
an other said: you can download an app from app store to scan for viruses, because it is possible that the virus is on the iphone.
This is really not clear anymore.

By 'Uninstalled' I mean incomplete installation. I have a desktop and towards the end of upgrading to W10 from W7 my internet connection was lost. I guess if I restore the connection it will finish, but I can't because I have no screen access to it. To do this I need to click on the 'connect' button on the USB software, because it doesn't access the internet automatically when switched on. I no longer have any access to this diaglog box just a blue W10. error warning screen which won't go away! Although I connect through a usb wireless connection I have put the ethernet cable back in but the computer still needs to be told the network and password before I can restore Connection. Can anyone help.

A:Uninstalled windows 10

Are you able to get into Safe mode?

What you can do is, force restart the machine a couple of times using the power button, or on bootup tap the F8 key a few times.

Windows should then ask you what you want to do, click on

'Advanced options'
'Startup Settings'
Click Restart
Then click F5 to go into 'Safe mode with Networking'

from here you can roll back or attempt to restart the install.

Error Code = 0x490. I have tried windows system recovery but there are no system images to choose from. Is there a way to remove uninstalled Windows Updates from my pc? I presently these 3 updates hidden:

Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview 10074 (2 instances)
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc - Other Hardware - AMD SMBus

I would like to remove them rather than hide them and risk the possibility of them getting installed. Is there a way to do this, or should I just let "sleeping dogs lie"?

A:Remove uninstalled Windows Updates from PC

If you haven't installed them, they haven't been downloaded, you could call them "Links" to the update. If you don't want them, keep them hidden, but you'll also have to watch out in the future, in case the priority changes. As far as the driver goes, The SM Bus controller is the System Management Bus Controller ... and your computer will run better if you find the right drivers for your motherboard .... The SM Bus Contoller's usually come as part of the Chipset Drivers you'll need to find the correct chipset of your motherboard at the manufacturers site of you can install from windows update. As I always tell people, Create a system image before updating drivers.

I have a Sony laptop in that blue screens on bootup in both normal & safe mode & system restore won't work. Windows updates were installed the last day that it booted so I'm pretty sure that's what caused the problem.

The hard drive & memory tested ok & Kapersky's rescue disk didn't find anything so I'd like to remove these updates, but I can't find anything online for doing this. Uninstalling updates with the recovery console was easy for Windows XP, but how do you remove updates with Windows 7?

A:Can Windows 7 updates be uninstalled offline?

If you are experiencing BSOD, I suggest you to start a new topic in the BSOD help & support section as there are people with knowledge to solve such issues.

If you can enter Windows and want to remove the latest updates, then use this tutorial Windows Update - Uninstall an Update

You can also try sfc/scannow command to correct the system files (you need Windows 7 installation dvd to add the needed files):
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Now, I have a unique problem. I'll try and describe it as best as possible.

Our desktops are running Win XP SP3 with a variety of apps. Recently I had to fix a .NET pop-up that seemed to be complaining about the frameworks installed. I got this fixed. After a reboot, I logged in and afterwards, it just sat there. Didn't load Windows. I could bring up task manager to run apps but not enough to restore the system.

Recently the same thing happened when uninstalling some Symantec apps (Live Update and something else). I had a failed install of their backup recovery for DLO. After a reboot, same thing happened. After a reboot, I logged in and afterwards, it just sat there. Didn't load Windows.

I tried a repair by booting to the recovery console and running: chkdsk /r This didn't repair Windows.

Anyone have any ideas?

You can access task manager?

Try ending the explorer.exe process and then under the Applications tab click New Task and type "explorer.exe"

See if it loads afterwards

Noticed something else: I think whatever I have may also be blocking my SMTP e-mail in Outlook. While the send/receive works fine, I've had to change my registration e-mail with forums today in order to receive the confirmation e-mail. My outlook SMTP address just doesn't seem to be detecting anything.

I went through step 1, didn't see anything in that nifty list in my add/remove programs menu.

Step 2-- Panda Activescan
I got to the "My Computer" step, and it wouldn't let me advance without buying the software. If I'm doing something wrong let me know and I'll get right on it.

I uninstalled my nvidia graphics card via device manager because I was having annoying freezes and nothing I tried fixed it. But when I restarted windows, the graphics cards didn't appear any more and I couldn't install the drivers back. Since it's a laptop I can't just unplug it and plug it in again. How do I get it back?

A:Uninstalled graphics card. Windows cannot detect it now

Do not try to install it through Device Manager.

I just did mine less than an hour ago. So maybe this will help.

After reboot W7 will load but have poor resolution. Go to where the Nvidia driver is downloaded (mine was in the Download folder) double click the Nvidia driver download and follow the prompts to install.

It may show it did not install the driver but don't worry just reboot when it is finished installing or says it didn't install properly.
That is what mine did and after a reboot all was installed properly.

Also after reboot the Monitor will show in Device Manager.

Three months ago, I uninstalled Office 2010 and installed Office 2013.

Yet Windows Update keeps sending me updates to Office 2010. Why?

(I have Windows 7 x64 if that matters.)

The only legacy Office thing I have left on my machine is something called "Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components." I was afraid to uninstall it because I didn't know what it did. What does it do, and can I safely uninstall it?

But Windows Update keeps sending me updates to Microsoft Office 2010, so I'm wondering if that could be the reason?

A:Office 2010 uninstalled but still getting Windows Updates

"Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components" probably accompanied Office 2010 and I think as long as it's on the computer the updates will see it.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, looking for a cool desktop i downloaded a GNOME aplication, it installed correctly but when it was time for it to load up it just would turn my screen to black, then it would come back on again with the black screen, the pointer and in a second it would go black again for like 5 seconds... it would continue to do this endlessly, it wont load into windows, the only way it works is when i go in SAFE MODE. I uninstalled the software through its original UNINSTAL feature but still the problem persists.

A:Uninstalled Gnome for Win 7 and now it wont Load windows

Please try step 1 and 2 from this article and report back.
It is for Vista, XP, but steps are the same in Win 7.
Please try it in regular mode, and if there will be no success - in Safe mode.

Well.. this is wonderful..

I just purchased the 10 dollar version of Office 2013 pro for home use through the company I work for. Prior to installing, I figured, I should probably first uninstall 2010 just so everything is a nice clean slate. After uninstalling 2010 though, I got prompted to reboot, and now my machine will not boot to desktop. I get to log in screen, click on log in, type my passwd, and then it crashes.. A screen pops up, gather some data to give to microsoft, and then reboots..

It does mention Driver_corrupted_expool.

Any help appreciated!!

I uninstalled a SCSI internal Jaz drive a couple of years ago but it still appears in WinXP Pro Windows Explorer as drive G.
How can I remove it...........and free up that drive letter?

A:Uninstalled Jaz drive still shows in XP Pro Windows Explorer

When you say uninstalled? I?m assuming you also pulled it out/disconnected it? If you did? see if it's in your device manager under the Hardware tab try to locate it and disable it. Also check in your bios see if it's still there.

I had a virus that completely took over my computer. After a great effort, I was finally able to get the computer to start up in safe mode. At this point, I uninstalled everything I could, moved every infected file to the vault and after all of this did nothing to solve the viral problem, I elected to do a system restore back to factory settings. However, after the restoration process was complete, the computer did its restart as usual, but after it said setup is starting services, I get the message "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation." If I click "ok", it restarts the same message just continues to come up. I am really hoping that one of you guys out there will have The Answer for me, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much,

Now my videos and my music do not have any sound when I play them?

Can this be fixed?
How can i Install this again and from Where?

A:Windows XP-Accidentally uninstalled windows sound

Can you tell us what soundcard you have or if it is onboard sound ?

If it is onboard sound, then you should have a driver cd with the chipset drivers on it for your onboard sound.
It sounds like you will just need to reload the drivers.

A:Accidentally Uninstalled The 'Windows Installer Service' - How To Reinstall It?

Hi pm2397, welcome to the board.

I don't see any short cuts to it. To restore the system to original factory settings with the recovery disk HP provided seems to be the best option. Plus this will avoid any other issues might show up later. Service pack 1 and 2 with be automatically update when recovery is completed. Please remember to backup all your important data.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I have both on my Windows 10 pc and only Skype Preview seems to actually work. What's really weird is I can't find much about either online, so I'm not even sure if Messaging + Skype is being continued or even still functional. Does it require a companion phone app to work? (I use Android). Messaging + Skype can't seem to find any of my Skype contacts while Skype Preview can.
Just really confused on how barebones and non-functional this all seems, even after some Googling. Can anyone shed some light for me?

A:Skype Preview vs. Messaging + Skype

Messaging + skype has been discontinued. Everything will be focused on Skype Preview now

I have tried everything imaginable to get rid of these two.  I can delete Skype via
control panel, but it comes back and re-installs itself.
Click to call will not go away.  When I try to use the control panel I get a message that
says, "close Chrome browsers to uninstall".   I've tried doing that and still get that same message.
I've even uninstalled Chrome and re-installed it with the same result.
These two are like a bad dream.
Any help with completely deleting both would be appreciated.

I have always used Skype for Desktop and only recently found that there is a Skype Modern App on my system.
From what I have read it would seem the best plan would be to ditch the App and just continue with the desktop version.
Have there been any recent changes that would make the the Modern App a better solution than the Desktop version?

A:Skype for Desktop vs Skype Modern App

They have updated it recently so it doesn't continue to ring even when you have answered the desktop version which is why I uninstalled it in the first place. This means in theory you could install both and answer whichever you felt like at the time.

I prefer the look of the desktop version personally so I never re-installed the Modern App version.

Not so much a software support question, but this is the best I could figure it'd go into... but if I have an Office 365 subscription that includes 60 minutes of Skype calling a month, do I still need to purchase a Skype number so people can call me and for people to know who's calling them?

I tested it out as it is right now and when I call my dad's phone, says "Unknown caller."
