Update error code 9C48 and 9C59

Q: Update error code 9C48 and 9C59

Hi there, Need some help getting some updates that won't update. This is for installing IE10 (which is funny because I'm already running IE 10) and then installing IE 11.

Downloaded the System Update Readiness Tool and installed it

Completed a SFC scan (no problems detected)

Ran the windows update repair tool

Nothing made a difference.

Here's a link to the CBS.zip https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B27...ew?usp=sharing

Thanks,

Shawn

Preferred Solution: Update error code 9C48 and 9C59

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The SFC scan is clear, at least - so this may not be too difficult to fix.

I'll post a fix protocol later.

Hi,

I'm having the same trouble as a lot of other people I think - update failures on the above codes.
Ii have attached screen shots of the error messages and my CheckSur file. My CBS is file is huge (even zipped) & as I'm a bit thick when it comes to this sort of thing, I didn't want to start deleting things and make the problem worse!!!!

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello, I'm trying to install an update to IE9 but get the error code 9C48.

I've tried to uninstall IE9 but it is not listed in the Windows Update section.

Originally I was trying to install win7 SP1, but was getting an error saying "newer software alreay installed" I think.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

I managed to fix most of the checksur errors (there was 8 in the beginning) on my own but now I am stuck.
Anyway I am on Windows 7 SP1 32 bit, I have run checksur and then sfc and uploaded the CBS folder with the logs.
Thanks in advance

I keep getting an error code 9C48 when trying to install this one important update:
Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
Download size: 69.1 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
Update type: Important

Also every time I turn my computer off at night there is always a message saying installing 1 out of 1 updates.

A:Windows Update Error Code 9C48

Please try out this fix. It may solve this problem or error.
1. First of all close all programs which are running on your computer and restart the Windows.
2. When Windows have started then click on the “Start” button and then click on the “All programs”
3. Now click on the “Accessories” and after that click on the “Run”.
4. Now you have to type "Services.msc" command in “Run” to open the Administrator Tools' Services panel.
5. Now find the "Windows Module Installer" service entry. If it’s status is 'disabled' then right click the entry and choose 'Properties' and change the startup state to 'Manual', click 'Apply' and then 'OK'.
6. Restart your computer.

If that doesn't work try this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/ie-10-worldwide-languages

I get this error trying to install "Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems"

I already have IE 11 installed and running properly, so I know it's stuck somewhere.
I followed the Windows Update Posting Instructions post before starting this thread, so I have run the System Update Readiness Tool and System File Checker. I'm attaching the CBS zip file.

Oh, and this system is running Windows 7 Home Premium. My system specs are for a different computer.

Try a system integrity scan
RUN > CMD > SFC /SCANNOW

Also try using firefox to access the net, then uninstall IE & download to install IE9 again.

You can try rolling back to your previous ver as well.

I have been searching Google and these forums and I noticed people attach their CBS and checkSUR logs after running sfc /scannow, so I am doing that as well in hopes of someone being able to help.

I have tried so many different fixes, CheckSUR, subinacl, MS Hot fixes, uninstalling IE11 etc. I hope someone is able to help. Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Error code 9C48 when trying to install IE 11 update

I was curious if anyone knows how I can fix this issue?

I ran Windows Update and there is an update for IE 9, but when I try to install it I get error code 9c48. I have tried every fix on the net to repair this, but to no avail. I have tried to uninstall IE9 and reinstall, but there is no update for IE9 in my installed updates. I have run sft / scannow and tried to fix the dll. I also have cleaned the registry and repaired the .net framework and 6-8 hours later. Still no IE, still no update.

I don't care about the update as long as I have a working version of Internet Explorer on my machine. Please help! I also have attached the .txt document of the cbs/logs with the erros from the scannow command.

Please help! Thanks.

A:Error Code 9c48 when installing IE9 Update Win 7

You should be able to update your internet Explorer 9(ie9) without any error message popping up on the screen.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

A:Another IE11 Update failure - Error Code 9C48

Here are some of my log files - CheckSUR, CheckSURpersist, IE11_main and windowsupdate.

I assume you may want to see my CBS logs, but I will need some help getting you what you want. I wound up with 1 CBS log and 5 CBSpersist logs, and when I zipped the folder it was 171MB in size which is way too big to upload here. I can try zipping the individual files to see if any of them would be small enough to upload.

FYI, I'm not an IT person and I have minimal experience knowing what I'm seeing when I try to read a log file. So please keep things simple where you can.

Thanks!

A:Cannot Install IE 10 update - Error Code 9C59

I suspect that part of your problem is due to strange time-shifts that appear in your CBS log.

Also, you have a large number of filters present - this may be overloading your system.

What AV's are currently installed - and what other AV's have ever been installed?

Hi
i can't update IE on several machines (some desktop pc's, some notebooks. different images, but all Win7SP1, 64bit) the IE 10 or IE 11 from IE 9.
we dont have internet on our production LAN, so i want to update via internal WSUS..like other pc's and notebooks in our LAN worked with success.
then i tried with offline installer...also both...IE 10 and IE 11, same failure.
i tried many things:
- uninstall products via FORFILES /P Command and install IE afterwards
- uninstall preReq Updates and install again
- install via Online-Update (Internet)
all done with real PC or a virtuell PC-Image, so i could try the things from begin on new checkpoint.
Done with Local Administrator and Domain-Administrator
i dont know what to do anymore.....
Last thing i tried: reboot - Run KB947821 - reboot - run again, took about 2 hours - reboot - try to run IE install with WSUS

Thanks for help

It fails if I try and update IE11 from microsoft.com directly or do it through windows update.

This is a new build, with a fresh install of win7, the current IE is 8.

Any ideas!?

EDIT: I feel I should mention that I don't want to actually use IE11, it's just that windows update keeps automatically trying to install it and fails, every single day, time and time again.

A:IE11 update fails with 'Code 9C59' error.

Second machine that I am having issues getting to update. I keep running into error code 80070BC9 and 9C59. I know 9C59 is IE11 fail to install but anything I try won't let me get past it even the standalone installer and trying to remove IE9. I ran SURT and sfc there was no change. CBS log attached. Any help on this headache would be greatly appreciated!

A:Windows update error code 80070BC9 and 9C59

There are no problems in either SFC or CheckSUR - but the background CBS data shows that a number of updates are in a pending state, and access to the registry is apparently being blocked.
From the look of the Filters.log you have both Symantec and Bit9 security programs running - it may be that this combination is blocking the updates.
I know nothing about Bit9 beyond what a quick look at their home page tells me, but a combination of Symantec with almost anything else in the form of an AV is pretty much guaranteed to cause problems.

What versions of which security programs are currently installed? what others have been installed ?

I have been trying to install updates on a new setup Lenovo Thinkcentre with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. All updates were successful except for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems. This update gives error 9C59. I have tried a number of fixes, some related to .net, as some of the error information pointed me in that direction. I have tried the Microsoft fix-it for update problems to no avail.

Again, the error code in Windows Update is 9C59.

I am attaching two CBS zipped files, as my original would not upload, and I was thinking it might have been too big, being over the 10Mb limit. The files are CBS-1.zip and CBS-2.zip. The second file (CBS-2.zip) has three of the .cab files in it, all the text files are in the first zip.

CheckSUR seems to have found no problems - neither did SFC.
However, there are the following errors in the CBS.log file...

I've been getting the 9C59 error for a while with the Windows automatic updater. I've attempted a manual update of IE 10, but had the same error. Not sure where to go from here.

I've attached the CBS file.

Thanks.

A:IE 10 Update Failed - Windows 7 - Error Code 9C59

CheckSUR found and fixed a large number of errors - but there are still a couple of errors remaining, which it may be able to fix if you run the tool a second time. Please post (just) the new CheckSUR.log file afterwards.

There are a couple of errors in the CBS.log which may relate to the errors outstanding in the CheckSUR - so we need to get those fixed first, and only then see if it's affected the SFC/CBS results.

SFC scan has no issues.

CBS logs attached if anyone has any bright ideas. Please let me know if you require any more information.

Hi folks

I found my way here after being unable to update to IE10 on Windows 7 (32)

the windows update error is:

"Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7
Installation date: ‎09/‎05/‎2013 10:22 AM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 9C59
Update type: Optional"

I have attached the CBS.zip file. (NB: when I pasted the copy of CBS folder to my desktop I got an error message that access to CBS.log was denied. Maybe this is normal?)

I'd be most grateful for any help you can give.

Chris

the copy/paste problem is common - which is one reason why I tend to prefer just collecting the CBS.log file on its own.
Copy the C:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log file to your desktop, and compress it, then upload that.

Windows update for IE10 on Windows 7 64bit fails continuously with error code 9c59. I tried the stand alone updater with the same results. All other windows updates complete successfully, it's just IE10 that continually fails.

Don't know if this is related but I do have problems with IE8 (current browser). After a while, an open IE window will become non responsive and can't be closed out. I have to use task manager to close it down. I have sent off the reports to MS, but no solution has appeared.

I've attached the cbs file. Let me know what else I can do. Thanks.

A:Windows update for IE10 on win7 64bit fails with error code 9c59

There are no significant file errors in either SFC or CheckSUR logs.

In these cases, it has sometimes been a solution to uninstall IE9, reboot a couple of times, and then reinstall IE9 again, before installing IE10 successfully.
It's worth a try

I brought my computer as a windows 7 computer and i upgraded all the way up to windows 8.1 before i got a virus. I had to order some dvds which worked but the updating process stopped at 99%. I let the updating process update for about 10 hours and it was still stuck.

So i took the dvd out and it got me to the startup services screen where it got stuck. So i changed a registry line and it worked! I got all my files back but now i can't upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10. Can i get some help?

Problem originally started when trying to complete a Windows Update to install IE10 -- had connection issues due to my router and needless to say, the install failed... miserably. Kept trying to reinstall IE10 through Windows Update, and also manually, to no avail.

Strangely enough, I could open IE, though not be able to use any of the toolbar menus or type in any address in the URL bar without it crashing.

IE10 was not showing in the installed update list, however IE9 was. Tried uninstalling IE9 and have gotten myself into an even bigger mess. Now, IE10 IS showing in the installed update list but the system is requesting that I install IE9. Still fails just as before with the resulting 'Code 9C48'. Can also still open IE but get the same type of crash as before.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

A:Win 7 - IE9 & IE10 update failure (Code 9C48)

You have some major registry corruption.

Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 1923
Found 586 errors
CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 2
CSI Missing Winning Component Key Total count: 584
This seems to be a fairly comprehensive listing of the IE9 entries.

It's not feasible to attempt to fix that manually - your only real option is going to be a repair install of Windows, followed by reinstalling IE9, and updating fully before attempting IE10 again.

I've tried also to download last IE10 package from official sites, and install it, but with no success. Next step was installation of SURT, and try to update again. It also doesn't work. SFC Scan was ok.

Hi,

I am getting unknown error code 80073712 for the last four windows updates and they will not install. One of them is IE10 which fails with error code 9C59. I tried install on clean boot, and ran chkdsk but no success. I am attaching screenshots and zip of log files as suggested for this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
sfc /scannow did not find any integrity violations.

Thanks.

If the file is too large (8MBcompressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file isbelow the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (theforum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Right, I hope I can get my problem across clearly as i've tried following many threads in different forums and at the moment i've had no luck...

I'm posting the thread due to the error code 9C48 which I get trying to update IE11 through windows. The first thing that came to mind is uninstalling IE.

1. I've looked under the View installed updates for 'Windows Internet Explorer' and couldn't find it.
2. I've tried uninstalling via command prompt and was unsuccessful (followed this step off a different thread).

Can someone help me with this?? I should mention i'm completely new to this so I need some good help

I'm running Windows 7 x86_64 architecture, and I am trying to install Internet Explorer 10 via the Windows Update service (currently I have Internet Explorer 8 installed). This update is continually failing with a 9C59 error (screenshot attached). I have tried to update to Internet Explorer 10 manually via the .exe to install Internet Explorer 10 and it also fails (as does, IE 9).

I have also attached the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS directory as a .zip file. From this, it seems as though some repair files are missing, although I can't quite figure out where these are supposed to be, or from which package/update they should have been installed from.

Any help appreciated,
Jon

I have been trying for days to install IE 11.  Three Microsoft help desk people could not accomplish the installation.  Support articles suggest uninstalling IE 9 which I cannot find.  Will uninstalling IE 10 help?  Are there hidden IE
9 files and updates?  Which are they?
Why is this such a common problem that remains unsolved?
Don't know what to do except pay a ransom to have IE 11 installed.  Please make a suggestion that will work.

I am working on a computer for a small business owner who needs to have IE11 browser for a particular application. I have been unsuccessful in updating her system from IE9. When trying to update I get error code 9C59.

I ran SFC and CHKDSK, but nothing seems to be wrong. I checked with MS's tech site and the system seems to have all the necessary updates to be able to install IE11. I scanned for viruses using MBAM and HitmanPro and only a few bits of adware and a PUPs. Nothing major.

I tried System Update Readiness Tool but it didn't seem to work.

Any advice on how to successfully install IE11?

I have an update "Windows Explorer 9 for Windows 7" update which terminates with the error code 9C48.
I have looked at a lot of fixes on the Web & this Forum and none seem to work.

I have tried the Command line prompt -:FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

Also
"Control Panel/Programs/Progs & Features/Installed Update " but get a msg "Error Occured"

I have also tried the "Fix it" but get "Access Denied" although I have Administrator Status

IE 9 seems to be working ok but I am concerned I may not be getting security updates.

Any Help would be appreciated

Regards John

A:Error code 9C59 when trying te install Internet Explorer 10

The CheckSUR file 'errors' are perfectly normal for a Windows 7 IE10 install.
The differences in the file size are simply due to the fact that the nl-nl installer doesn't contain all the possible language variant, while the larger one does.

What interesting is that you are still attempting to install IE at all, since it appears to be already installed.

Please run SFC /SCANNOW, and post the resulting CBS.log file.

Hi guys,

I am getting the error 9c59 when installing IE 10 in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

In event viewer the error code 0x80070643 is shown, reading up on this Microsoft suggests it has something to do with .net framework 4 and that this should have a repair install run. I did this but it made no difference.

I have run the SFC scan and added the logs as suggested.

Please help guys, I really don't want to have to re-install.

Regards

Trev

Update:

I have just tried to uninstall IE 9 but this failed.

Hello mystvearn

Sorry you seem to have been missed. Have you checked the Prerequisites before installing IE9 - Prerequisites for installing Internet Explorer 9 and also here - Troubleshoot problems when you cannot install Internet Explorer 9.
Also run the system file checker just incase there are any system errors - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker.

It may also be worth trying the offline installer from here - Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 64-bit Edition and Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Edition

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Well; the ie11 was really designed for windows 8; and therefore ie 11 can be installed on windows 7. That might be why you cant install it.

Hi. I am at the end of my tether with a failed IE11 update.
Medion Laptop, Core 2 Duo [email protected], 4GB RAM, Win 7 32-bit.
I have followed the MS knowledge base articles without success.

I have run SURT, which completed without incident or delay. SFC reports no integrity problems. All other updates are installed. It just seems to be IE11 that I have issue with.

IE8 is currently installed. CBS log files attached.
It would be great if you are able to assist.

Best regards. Ajay

Hello G10Egg,

Sorry to hear you can't install IE 11.

I've got a few steps for you to try, which should resolve this issue and allow you to install the latest version of IE.

Troubleshooting a failed installation of Internet Explorer 11
Prerequisite updates for Internet Explorer 11
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

If the above suggestions don't help, please do let me know.

HI all,

Just registered after seeing a similar thread on here to the issue I have.

I have a laptop with 7 Home premium 64 bit SP1 that is up to date with the exception of an IE9 update that refuses to install at all.

Have tried various different methods but to no avail including attempting to remove IE9 and then try a reinstall.

Uninstall hasn't been possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

It may be a case of attempting to rip IE10 out by the roots...

Hello, I have just reinstalled Windows 7 Starter on my Asus Netbook. I have spent yesterday installing updates and there is one update that is giving trouble.

It is the update for IE11 for Win 7. It fails with the error code: 9C48

The only third party programs I've installed is Chrome

The CBS.zip file is over 9MB so the forum will not allow me to post it. The result from sfc /scannow was:

Code:
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
I could upload the zip to dropbox or Google Drive if that would help. Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

First of all thanks a lot for this forum and its helpful and devoted members.
So here I am, with the terrible "9C48 code: windows update has encountered an unknown error" (sorry for the approximate translation...).
The update I'm trying to install is "Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for processor x64 computers" (58,4 Mo).
Although I already use Internet explorer 11.0.9600.17280, there's still, according to Windows update, an update to do but which fails every time I try.
I run a fresh clean new install (just formatted my computer), tried WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, Microsoft Fix it, System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and SFC Scan.
Enclosed the CBS.zip, though there are several "CbsPersist_2014xxxxxxxxxx.zip" I had to delete as the file was too big to upload :-/
As my friend Georges would say, what else? Thanks for your help !

I got handed a machine suffering from the dreaded 9C59 error when trying to install IE 10 via windows update. Looks like it may have been that way for a few months now. When I got it, no other updates were available except for IE10, even after a forced check.

Not quite a 7 machine though (2008 R2 SP1, but 7 x64 is basically the same family so I figured it was worth a shot asking here)

Dell Vostro 430
8GB
Nvidia GeForce310

2008R2SP1 (japanese)
McAfee Enterprise 8.7.0i
Currently IE9
SURT is clean
SFC says I'm okay...
Offline IE 10 installer fails
IE9 uninstall fails

IE install log shows it failing at the IE10-neutral.extracted.cab or IE10-neutral.downloaded.cab point saying it can't find the file specified.

If push comes to shove I think I should be able to remove McAfee, but there are similar machines that also have McAfee and they have IE10.

My wife's laptop refuses to update to IE 11. What I know it might have been interrupted on the first attempt (probably battery empty), now it wants to do the update on every shutdown but fails. A manual update produces error 9C59.

Scandisk doesn't find any errors. I looked through the logs, but can't make too much of it (nowadays I mostly work with Linux systems). Attached you find the CBS logs and any logs I thought might be useful. Please recommend what I should try next, thanks in advance!

A couple of months ago this system had problems with KB which when installed would cause all MSI files to fail to install In the process of fixing that I used System Restore several times to roll back to different points After I discovered it was KB and uninstalled it things were fine Until it reinstalled itself again later and I had to remove it again This month Windows Update would never finish checking for updates I went into Add Remove Programs to see if KB had installed itself Windows Redected Error 9C48; KB2871997 Update IE11 Always again but that listed no installed updates I tried SFC scannow and it wouldn't run I tried Windows Update IE11 Error 9C48; KB2871997 Always Redected System Restore and it didn't help I manually created HKLM Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Component Based Servicing Version according to this Windows Modules Installer Error - Microsoft Community and then things started to work Windows Update SFC and updates being listed in Add Remove Programs - though only a few were listed Now an optional update IE refuses to install - it gives error code C IE is already installed Additionally KB succeeds but keeps showing up It also doesn't seem like I got the latest batch of patches - only a few items were listed Windows Update IE11 Error 9C48; KB2871997 Always Redected when I checked for updates though I'm not sure about this CBS zip attached The CBS directory has cab files that aren't included they make the zip file greater than the MB limit CbsPersist cab CbsPersist cab CbsPersist cab CbsPersist cab CbsPersist cab From my brief look at the log it looks like there are more registry keys that are missing broken sfc scannow reported no integrity violations Thanks

A:Can't update to IE11 9C59 error

Your Zip files appear to be broken - how did you create them?

You cannot simply split files.

You need to copy the entire CBS folder to your desktop, then remove the older CBSPersist files, compress the rest and upload the compressed file without changing it in any way.

As you are new and your first post. You have done well with the accompanying files. I haven't looked at your files, however, the 9C59 error is an often reported (and resolved) problem installing I.E.11. Suggest you do a forum search and look over the fixes, as you will probably find the fix for yours.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I'm having an issue with another computer's updates. When trying to upgrade to IE 11 it fails with an error saying that I need prerequisite updates. After I installed them and removed IE 9 as recommended somewhere, installing IE 11 still fails with error 9c48. I've tried some Microsoft FixIt tools unsuccessfully. The latest CBS log is attached.

I've tried all the obvious stuff and nothing works. SFC reports no integrity issues with the OS.

I'm wondering if the original problem was trying to update using Windows Update first. I was able to install IE 10 on my HP laptop running Windows 7 Professional x64 by running the stand alone installer. I did have the updated video driver so I didn't run into the package update install problem even though it has a hybrid video system.

Thanks,

This appears to be an LDR branch off the main GDR - and as such could be difficult to fix.
This would almost certainly have required manual download and install of a hotfix patch - LDR patches don't usually come by way of Windows Update.
I'm not fully conversant with the methods of fixing this type of problem - so I'm, going to see if I can get a couple of others involved, who may have more knowledge.

Have gotten this error for a while in windows update and have also been unsuccessful installing IE11 as a stand alone. My current IE version does not open anymore.

1. Ran SURT -- no errors
2. Ran SFC/scannow -- no errors
3. The error code in Windows update is 9C59

I have attached CBS log files in a zip file.

Thanks for your help. Pepper me with any question that may help resolve this...

Thanks.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Hey,

I have been experiencing a 9C59 error when trying to update to IE10 on this PC. I have followed all of the troubleshooting advice available from Microsoft, ensuring all pre-requisites are installed etc.

I have attached three CBS.zip files here for evaluation (sorry had to split them to upload) and would greatly appreciate any help you can give on this issue.

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum so sorry if this thread is not as it should be.

I have spent a while researching the above issue and there has been a number of these issues brought up and I have seen that you guys are very experienced in this field so would like to pick your brains if I may.

I understand this issue is generally different every time it pops up, unfortunately I have looked through the CBS log and cannot see which of the many errors are the cause for the Internet Explorer 10 update 9C59 issue.

I have attached the logs suggested and would really appreciate any help with this.

Oh! I have tried using the stand alone IE 10 installer but this failed also.

Thanks
