Preferred Solution: Windows 7 Upgrade Genuine on upgrade but fails later

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I may have solved this myself, by reading a lot of posts here folks so that you so much. It's great to have real support out there. I realised I have to go through the procedure of taking ownership of files, granting admin rights and copying stuff in manually. At last it past the MS validation test online for the first time. Hopefully this will be of help to others.

Hello and thanks for reading Let me begin by saying I've been trying to figure this problem out for hours and hours now repair fails, Windows upgrade missing, fails Programs and Windows and every solution I find that looks promising just leads me in circles I'm trying my best to avoid a clean install The problem started while playing a game causing a BSOD After a restart I noticed some of my programs just didn't boot up for example Core Temp I attempted to manually start Core Temp and received Programs missing, Windows repair fails, and Windows upgrade fails the Programs missing, Windows repair fails, and Windows upgrade fails following error quot The system could not find the environment option that was entered quot That problem lead me here The system could not find the environment option that was entered - Microsoft Answers Which obviously did nothing for me I tried to create a new user but when I click the link in the control panel to do so nothing happens I then tried to repair my windows installation using my disc and it said it could not find any problems After searching some more I found another solution would be to perform an upgrade to my Windows installation to fix the problems I put the disc in nothing happened so I went to the setup exe directly and got the same error as above So I then booted in safe mode and it loaded I got excited until it said something like quot an error prevented a compliance check from completing quot And just to be very clear my windows is valid I'd be more than happy to share an image of my newegg receipt or even my box to get that out of the way as I've seen a lot of flaming towards people who have issues regarding validity Well that brought me to a thread on this website where someone said to open an elevated command prompt and run sfc scannow I tried doing that and got this error quot This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please install a program or if one is already installed create an association in the default programs control panel quot I've tried some other stuff but I think you guys get the idea Any help would be awesome I figured I would try as much as possible the next few days to avoid a clean install I imagine that I have corrupt files and that performing the windows upgrade would reinstall them and do the trick I'm working really hard to figure out how to make that happen I was also wondering if there is a way I can plug in a spare drive install windows on that then try quot upgrading quot repairing the windows on my main drive Anyways thanks for reading

A:Programs missing, Windows repair fails, and Windows upgrade fails

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

I would also restore my default program association to solve the SFC problem, which I believe should be associated with .exe file: Default File Type Associations - Restore - Windows 7 Forums. If not the tutorial's author will know for sure.

If not a Repair Install should be able to sort this after getting clean of any infection.

I would also not dread a Clean Reinstall which almost always is better than getting a new PC given the load of crapware and useless utilities larded onto new consumer PC's. We specialize in this here so can help you get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which steps are the same for retail.

Thanks for reposting (and welcome to the forum!)

This is a slightly atypical case, but....

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

(you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

Notification Reason: 0xC004F00F
This error indicates the tolerance for online activation has been exceeded.

You need to perform telephone activation using these steps:

1. Click Start, and in the Search box type : slui.exe 4
2. Press ENTER on your Keyboard
3. Select your Country.
4. Select the Phone Activation option, and hold on for a real person.

FYI : there is no need to remove your product key in the MGADIAG report........its partly hashed which makes it extremely unlikely that anyone could use it for nefarious purposes.

My Computer keeps trying to install this update and fails:

"Size: 501 KB

Install this update to resolve issues caused by revised daylight saving time and time zone laws in several countries. This update enables your computer to automatically adjust the computer clock on the correct date in 2010. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

More information for this update can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/KB/2158563"
How can I sucessfully install this. My last resort is turning off windows update. I don't want to see that red ballon tray popup though...

Dear Dell Community,
I am using an Dell XPS 13 9350 512GB SSD Laptop with Windows 10 Home Version. Trying to upgrade  up to Windows 10 Pro (in a simple way by changing product keys) but activation of new key fails.
Ok. Seller advise is an entire new  Win 10 Pro iso installation. Trying to install the new OS on second   Partition. But getting always the following error:
My questions:
1. What could be the reason of failing "soft upgade" just by exchanging activation keys?
2. Is parallel installation of 2 Microsoft OS allowed on the same physical SSD (as 2nd partition) allowed?
3.  Do I loosing Dell support by formatting the entire SSD and installing Windows 10 Enterprise (originally laptop came with Win 10 Home 64bit)?
Thanks and Regards,
Daniel

I accept the EULA, and then click upgrade. After a minute I get a generic message saying the installation failed try again. No error messages etc.

I did some research and made sure system restore was on, disabled AV software, uninstalled diskburner software (nero), etc. I performed windows updates (though I am still not on SP1 since I am also having issues getting past a certain KB, another thread

A:HP Wizard for Windows 10 upgrade fails repeatedly--what to d...

wcs83 YES -- think seriously about NOT Upgrading to Win10.  Seriously! The Stream line of PCs only have a very SMALL drive (32GB SSD), which is not nearly large enough to support an in-place Win10 Upgrade using Windows Update. There is a LOT of working getting the Upgrade to work with your PC, so much so that one person wrote a thread about it:  How I was able to install Windows 10 on HP Stream 13 (32GB S... - HP Support Forum - 5179626 And even then, you're not done -- as folks have come back and complained bitterly about how recent Cumulative Updates would not install, due to lack of room -- and that doesn't even consider the Anniverary Update which will come out in early August!! You're asking for a LOT of trouble -- for very little gain in return.

A:windows 10 upgrade fails on pavilion 15 notebook pc

Hi @giftedmishra? ,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook and issues with creating Recovery discs. Here is a link from Microsoft on creating USB recovery flash drive. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system updates, try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix the problem. I hope this helps. Thanks.

Hi

My husband upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and now I find that Family Tree Maker 2009 platinum has "stopped working". I did an uninstall and reinstall but same problem arises.

Have tried recommended compatibility tests and opening as administrator but nothing. Windows says it will check on line for a solution but nothing happens.

Don't really want to have to buy 2010 edition as only have had 2009 for just under a year. Any advice would be so appreciated.

I think 've tried everything. Upgrade advisor says all is fine, all drivers report as updated, no camera etc connected, virus scanner removed, possiblely tricky software removed etc. PC meets specs. I specify upgrade, it goes through all the motions right through to the final steps of installing apps etc then part way through (and i cant say when) it restarts back to Vista, with a message that it was not possible to install. No error message that I have seen.

I suspect I need to try a clean install but before I do...any ideas welcome.

When I called Dell customer support I was advised to call "Microsoft" for support. They gave me a number. When I called it was a 3 rd party company that wanted to sell me a dix for $399. SHAME ON YOU DELL!!!! Your customer support is terrible.

How to Repair Corrupted Windows System Files with the SFC and DISM Commands
1. Run sfc /scannow
Will have 3 outcome as below :
1. Windows integrity cannot find any violation : means OS is stable
2. Found error but able to fix : stable but no major file and registry impacted, but may have issue soon
3. Found error but not able to fix : indicate os having issue.
2. Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to restore Image health, as the command will capture update from microsoft server.
If cannot try to restore, repair boot mbr and last option only do clean installation.

I just upgraded to windows xp (forced to) and everything seemed fine. But I then realized the my 2nd storage hard drive fails to read. I have this second hard drive partitioned into 2 drives. One of these partitions works fine, the other (which contains all my stuff0 does not work. The system read the drive as empty and unformatted. It is not empty and has been formatted to NTFS. The only thing that seems wrng is that it is marked as "active" in the computer managment screen. Not rteally sure what that means but thought I would mention it. Any ideas would be great.

P.S I may have accidently marked the partition as "active" in the disk managment window, I think this is what is causing the problem oin the disk. Is there any way to unmark the partition?

A:partition fails to read after windows xp upgrade.

Does this other drive that is not being recognized also contain your old operating system?(this would be the drive marked 'active')?

It sounds like you have your old installation on a seperate drive and windows xp was installed on another drive.

Hi Guys,

An annoying issue - I've done a lot of research into this issue, and the best thread I've found is over at reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport...0d_the/ctllkc6)

I've tried unplugging every USB peripheral except Keyboard/Mouse, uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials, doing it from a Clean Boot and disabling all network adapters - and it still fails at about 50% of configuring settings.

If anyone's got anymore advice, that'd be great.

Hi,

my first post here since i start to be pretty desperate. My Win 10 (version 10.0 Build 10240) has downloaded and installed version 1511, 10586 now already five times. Every time it asks to reboot to finish the upgrade there pops up a window in the lower right corner that says "We couldn't finish installing updates - Select this message to learn more". When i select it, I'm taken to the Update section where it says my computer is up to date. And when i check for updates it always finds the update version 1511, 10586 again. And prepares to install, and starts to download (takes for ages), and actually installs. And then again asks to reboot. And fails.

I hope there would be some solution to this, I upgraded from Win7 and this has been working until now. I REALLY hope I don't have to go back to Win7 and lose tons of installed programs. Any help appreciated.

A:Fails to Upgrade to Windows 10 v.1511, 10586 (Nov.update)!

You have been using Windows Update to install 10586.

How about download Media Creation Tool or Tech Bench and do the install ?

Media Creation Tool (MCT)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Tech Bench
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench

Let's use MCT as an example.
Download the Tool and run it > you can either
1. select Upgrade this PC now which will begin installation.
or
2. select Create Installation media for another PC which will begin downloading the iso file to your computer.
After iso file is downloaded, right click at the iso file > click Mount > click Setup.exe > installation will begin.

In both methods, you can keep you settings, files and apps.
No product key is required.
Activation is automatic.

I've done this about 10 times now, each time it fails. It installs the OS and it reboots itself a few times then it rolls back and boots back into Windows 7.

I did some investigation and it seems that it's getting a blue screen. So the last 2 attempts, I've checked the minidumps it saves.

First time, it was wdf01000.sys and ucx01000.sys.
Second time, it's wdf01000.sys, pacer.sys, and AgileVpn.sys.

Last driver is the highest in the stack.

I've tried removing all software that the ASUS DVD installed when I first set the machine up (It's an ASUS P8P67 Pro rev 3.1 motherboard). I have 16 gigs of ram that has been tested.

In Windows 7, I have no issues. No blue screens, no strange errors, no weird problems at all.

Need ideas and things to try.
Thanks,
Aaron

Marius3 Don't know why the Win10 Upgrade is trying to write to your Recovery partition -- but it should NOT be doing that. My guess is that you're trying to do the Upgrade through Windows Update -- which is the least reliable and most problematic way to do this. Instead, I would suggest that you use this link to create Win10 install media:  Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help Then, insert that media into your PC (while Windows is still running) and launch the Upgrade from there. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

Hello,
Im in a trouble, so im hoping that you will help me.
I had a genuine windows 7 for a laptop a while ago, then i sent the laptop to my parents in a different country.
So i bought a new pc, without a operating system, driven by a lack of money i downloaded the old not genuine xp. Along came problems, unknown errors, bugs, etc.
Like for example, now i cannot start safe mode, i cannot make a new partition thru cmd or partition magic cause of somekind of file xmnt.exe is missing.
Sadly, i want to keep my bought games and programs, 'cause my internet is pretty slow, so it will take for ages to redownload/reinstall everything.

The question is: Can i upgrade my not genuine windows xp to windows 7 by buying it and installing like it's a common program keeping all of the programs/games/etc.?

Thank you in advance.

A:Upgrade not genuine windows xp to genuine windows 7.

Sadly if you are looking to regain stability your best bet would be a fresh install of windows 7
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

as outlined there you can do a fresh install with the upgrade disc, this would result in the loss of your games and programs, though do a straight upgrade from xp to win 7 without cleaning out the garbage is just going to make win 7 run horribly too.

I am trying to perform the November update (1511) on this computer. (starting from the previous Windows 10 version)
Since I have another problem where it doesn't appear in Windows Update (despite fulfilling many requirements to make it appear), I am limited to perform the upgrade with the Media Creation Tool (which has re-implemented build 10586, 1511 into it after been pulled out)

However, the upgrade process failed when reaching 76%. After system restore and reboot, the following pop-up appeared:

Any ideas why this is happening? I upgraded this computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 back in august, without any issue. Only now it did not find the November update through Windows Update and when using the Media Creation Tool it fails.

A:7 Pro Upgrade suddenly not genuine (0xC004F200)

You have he Default Key for Windows 7 Pro installed - which can never be activated.

What type of Upgrade Key do you have? A full retail one with disks, or an Anytime Upgrade?

If it's a Full Upgrade, then a repair install will work (with a bit of fiddling).
If it's an Anytime Upgrade, that option isn't open to you, and you'll have to either do a clean install of Home followed by an upgrade, or see if MS Activation support can help (I don't know if they will or not).

Let me know, and we'll proceed from there.

Enough with the teenage foolishness... My version of XP was installed by a friend and was not genuine. I had avoided updates for obvious reasons up til recently. When the HD took a dump, the service shop that I took it to, ran an update and now I am tagged. I value my machine and the whole computer experience too much to by-pass the annoying pop up. I want to go with genuine MS XP.
Will buying and XP upgrade do it ($99)? Or full version ($199) Or follow MS online instructions to make my version genuine? I want to be legal, but not spend too much.

A:Genuine XP? Will an upgrade Version 4 $99 work?

You will need to get the full version. You may find an OEM version cheaper but it will require a format and clean install.

Clean installing W7 x86 is no problem. But
1) upgrading Vista x86 to W7 x86 fails and automatically rolls back to Vista, and
2) attempt to clean install W7 x64 results in BSOD when rebooting to finalize the process.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

A:Two issues: Upgrade install of W7x86 fails and W7x64 fails to clean install

Hi churin and welcome to Se7en Forums

I would actually never contemplate on upgrading one OS to another - a clean install is by far the best way to go. True, installing the upgrade version of Vista as a clean install means that you actually install Vista twice, once on an empty drive/partition and then as an upgrade over itself, but it is the same OS. I would expect that the same (or similar) procedure would be true for W7. This could explain your first problem.
As for your second problem, it is possible that your download is corrupted for some reason or other. You could try downloading it again to see if that is the problem.

I was given an old Gateway laptop computer with a MHz Pentium processor and kb of RAM running Windows SE I decided to upgrade it to Windows XP Home The upgrade starts out fine it checks the system gives no error messages and then begins to copy files The hard drive and CD indicator lights flicker to indicate files are being copied and there s the dotted scroll bar that scrolls from left to right on the screen to show you that there s activity going on Well after a while the hard drive and CD indicator lights stop flickering it seems that files are no longer being copied from the CD to the hard drive However the dotted scroll bar on the screen keeps on scrolling from left to right I have left it doing this for several hours that scroll bar keeps on scrolling but the installation process stops The system doesn t hang the file copying just stops Win XP is never installed and after reboot it reverts back to Win SE So instead of an upgrade I tried wiping the hard drive reformatting and doing a clean install of XP but it doesn always fails, why? upgrade Win XP t help It gets to the same point in the setup and just stops copying files No error messages or any indication that anything is wrong I have tried Win XP upgrade always fails, why? installing Win XP Win XP upgrade always fails, why? on at least different occasions but no success Gateway tech support says this machine is too old to be upgraded to Win XP but then contradicts this statement by saying that people who have upgraded to Win XP are often not happy as Win XP runs slower on these laptops than Win SE Why won t Win XP install on this computer It should be noted that this computer while not the fastest thing around exceeds the minimum processor and RAM requirements for Win XP Home And I ve never got an error message indicating there s a problem with anything nbsp

A:Win XP upgrade always fails, why?

On thing that comes to mind is the bios is probably not compliant with xps acpi. You can search gateway's site and see if there is a bios update that addresses this issue. Another option is to try and install with a standard hal instead of an acpi hal. Post back if you want instructions on how to do this.

BTW I agree that you will not be happy with the way xp runs on a machine of that speed.

My upgrade from 7100 to 7264 failed. I had the same problem when upgrading to 7100 and had to reformat my drive. Here's the problem: at some point when transfering files and system settings (2nd step I believe) the C drive becomes currupted somehow. The OS still runs and boots, but the drive shows up as "access denied." The sizes under properties are all 0.

I'm using the computer to post this so it still runs, but the drive is desperately crippled. I think the partition table is messed up somehow.

Any ideas?

Where did you get the ISO? (no links please).

It could be that it's either a bad ISO, bad burn or both. Also, what speed did you burn the DVD? I recommend 4x or slower.

I bought a Win 8 Pro 64 bit upgrade dvd in order to upgrade from Win 7-64bit.
After completion I downloaded win 8.1 pro upgrade from the store.
At the end of the installation it says "getting devices ready".
It starts the process showing the rate and it gets stuck at 6%.
Turned off the laptop (by disconnecting power and battery) and got the following message:
"....could not complete the update to Win 8.1.........
error 0x1900101-0x30018 "
I tried to install this upgrade a third time to no avail.
I checked that I got all the win 8 updates.
I did a system restore.
I updated the nvidia driver.
I checked the requirements, including CMPXCHGb support in my 64bit version, by using Coreinfo.exe.

Hello,

We understand that many customers are receiving error 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 when installing Windows 8.1. This error is typically caused by an incompatible driver.

If you are receiving this error:
1.
First, please double-check the error code. There are many variations of error 0xC1900101, each with a different location code -- the error extension, located after the dash. The information in this thread is intended only for location code 0x40017. If you are receiving a different location code, these steps are unlikely to resolve your issue.

2.
Check that you’ve already updated all of your drivers. In particular, if you have an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, make sure you’ve installed the latest Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

3.
Check that you do not have any Frequently Asked Questions - What devices are supported by the SteelSeries Engine? that support the SteelSeries Engine installed on your PC. The SteelSeries Engine software is currently not supported on Windows 8.1. Please uninstall the software before attempting to update to Windows 8.1

I would think the XP license sticker is meaningless if you now have a Windows 7 installation.

Do you have a valid Windows 7 Product Key?

Did you install Windows 7 from a burned disc, a purchased OEM disc, a borrowed disc, a purchased retail disc, or???

I cannot recall hearing of those particular error messages. Is that "not to worry, we can help you with that" a verbatim quote? Sounds stilted and suspicious, offhand.

I have got myself into a bit of a mess.

I installed my version of windows starter on my mom's PC which was previously running vista. To see if it improved the performance or if the laptop itself was rubbish. It did so I purchased an upgrade to windows home premium. When I enter the upgrade key it says I need the current key is invalid for upgrade and that I need to phone a number. Does this mean the software I brought is useless. I didn't want to buy a disc as I had read that using a upgrade key meant everything was kept. Is there anyway I can use the software I've brought. The computer recognises the key as an upgrade one.
Thanks.

A:XP to windows 7 upgrade incompatibility issues caught by Upgrade Advis

1st, you can't upgrade from XP to Windows 7, you have to do a Clean Install which means boot the DVD and format the drive, so nothing you do to XP will have any effect.

Having said that, you can cheat

See here: Upgrade Install - XP to Windows 7

My recommendation would be to do an image backup of the XP system then do a Clean Install (with format), apply all updates then start restoring your data from the backup. All software will have to be reinstalled, it can't be copied from the backup to Win 7.

Am I stuck with a disk I cannot use now?
One of the install choices was to do a clean install and lose all of my files, applications, and settings. Is that my only choice?

A:installation/upgrade fails

This is because you are trying to in-place Upgrade, running the DVD from Starter. If you boot the Win7 DVD to clean install you would not have that error.

If you need to in-place Upgrade from Starter to Pro to preserve factory programs or utiltiies, MS wants you to use Anytime Upgrade. You may have found a limitation on which retail keys can be used.

There is a workaround to change between versions in Win7 by tricking the installer into thinking it is doing an alway-allowed same version Repair Install. I can provide it if you want.

You need to re-activate - Windows thinks that the licensing Store has been tampered with.

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

I'm about to buy a new laptop from Costco with Win 7 Home Premium. On my old (now smashed) laptop I have a Win 7 Ultimate install. Can I just use the Ultimate serial key to do the Anytime Upgrade on the new machine? I keep reading that I need to buy an "upgrade key."

Thanks

A:Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade with non-upgrade Ultimate license?

Hi,
You will need an upgrade key to initiate the ultimate download, but if you can manage to obtain an ultimate installation cd your serial should work, also if you use this winisoutils - Windows ISO Disc Image Utilities

you can change a windows install cd (if you have one) into a universal edition one, very handy.

to answer your question an upgrade key is not the same as a serial, the upgrade key is just to download the installation while the serial activates it, and a serial from one edition will not work with a different edition.

hope this helps

Since Windows was announced that it will be free for Windows and users that got me hyped up There are many things I've found about Windows that makes me No Windows Upgrade message 10 ready upgrade Notification: want to have it such as DirectX and Windows Aero one of the reasons why I love Windows I signed up to Windows 10 Upgrade Notification: No upgrade ready message the Windows Insider Program and got a slow but interesting feel of the Windows Preview on VMWare Player and now I'm ready for the real thing I reserved the upgrade for Windows when it comes on July th just to be Windows 10 Upgrade Notification: No upgrade ready message ready Only problem its Windows 10 Upgrade Notification: No upgrade ready message August and I haven't been given a message that says Windows is ready to install Now I've read that when Windows was released on the day of its launch that the Microsoft servers have been running at their limits since a lot of people have waited the day and received their Windows upgrade I've googled some forums as well to find any other problems associated with the Windows upgrade but none of them matched my description I have the Windows logo notification on the taskbar it just hasn't told me that Windows is ready to install Now I'm not saying that this is taking too long and I want Windows now I'm only just a little nervous about how long this keeps up I really hope that this doesn't drag on all the way till next year when the free upgrade option has expired but this isn't much of a concern I've heard of a Windows Media Creation Tool and I have downloaded it but I decided not to install Windows this as I have school and all but I'd rather install when the notification says its ready and let nature take its course I also heard something about HP devices with Windows as I use an HP laptop but I'm not sure if this is a reason why this is occurring Overall I'm just wondering on when the notification says its ready and how long it will take And I know that Microsoft has a lot on its plate but I just hope that this doesn't take too long

A:Re: Satellite Pro A300-2C4 'Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD' to upgrade

Hi TKG

Upgrading from WinXP to Win7 is not supported by Toshiba nor by Microsoft.
The only possible way to upgrade (go from 1 installation with some data to Win7 and keeping your settings and data) is from WinVista SP1 or later.

So regardless of how You look at it, You need to get XP out and either begin with WinVista factory installation + any 1 million updates that were released after this, OR
you can boot up from the Win7 media directly and install clean.
The second method saves a lot of time BUT have some negative side effects - namely not all drivers and utilities will be available in the final system if installed clean.
Some packages from WinVista works well in Win7 and are for that reason expected to be in the system during the update.
Hence, if You do a clean install, they will be missing.

However, they might not cause any trouble for You if they are not there, but that is not known until You're there and can see what You are missing.
Basic functionality should be expected though (WLAN, LAN, Sound, video....so on)

So, think about what You want to do and get busy with either recovering your unit with the WinVista set, updating, and then running the Toshiba Upgrade DVD, Win 7 upgrade and finally the Toshiba upgrade DVD again, OR just install Win7 clean + adding as much as possible / needed from the Toshiba Upgrade DVD.

Good luck!

The nine year old XPS 420 was never validated for Windows 10.
All of the drivers we wrote were for XP and Vista. You can attempt to install the bios from a bootable DOS diskette.

This - where fails in-place files? are log upgrade is a little off subject but this is where my problems started For some tme I have had issues getting my latest version of Nero installed I finally found a Nero registry fix file and ran it Unfortunately that's where my problems started although I was able to install Nero I noticed some icons were missing but other issues started a few days later Like I in-place upgrade fails - where are log files? was runniing some updates to software that uses Adobe Air and the errors reported that the previous verson could not be uninstalled Anyway I realized I had a major problem Unfortunately by the time I figured this out my image backup before that date had been deleted I can't save but about versions So I thought I would just deal with doing an in-place upgrade and the inconvienence is far better than a reinstall I have so much software installed for my job that it would literally take me a solid week plus to get it all reinsitalled and then I know I would miss a bunch that I don't use often I have tried an in-place upgrade several times and everytime it fails on the last step and it just reboots back to saying there's an error and it can't continue I start up the disk and go into repair and then to command prompt I can't figure out where the upgrade log fiiles are at so someone can see them and clue me into what the errors are Can someone tell me how I can find them so I can copy them somewhere else do a rollback and fix the issues after I know what to fix Thanks for the help I appreciate any and all info

I have 1511 installed and hit the issue with a couple of updates not installing so I can't install the Anniversary and follow-on upgrades.
Has anyone used the Media creation tool, downloaded the Win 10 Home/Pro x64 v.1607 to a USB stick, and then performed an in-place upgrade/repair.
Was it successful?
To boot from the usb should I change the bios for usb first, or just load within win 10 , from the usb drive. When should I remove the stick?
Sorry for so many questions --- fairly new at this
Appreciate all help

I recently did a windows upgrade from my start menu. It said I need the new Windows Installer upgrade V3.1 so I proceeded to let it download. The installation failed and now my computer is locked in a loop where it asks me to restart and when I do.....it just keeps failing and asks me to restart again. Any help here?

I tried some suggestions at the Microsoft site but they didn't work. They did not point specifically to my problem. How do I cancel and delete the failed upgrade installation and stop that annoying restart window from popping up. I even tried to download the update file directly from Microsoft but until I clear the failed installation...I can't do anything....

Hello all. I have a problem with 7 laptops in my firm. All are Lenovo B590, and all fail to upgrade to Windows 10. They run the setup till 40% overall, 23% instaling drivers and features. All fail at exactly the same progress. Tryed doing from Media creation tool, tryed flashing bios to newest version. Tryed removing all external devices and even disabling some of them in Device Manager. I think that my B590's are not on the supported list for Win 10 but still hoped something could be done to get the free upgrade. Tnx in advance for your help and good advice. Cheers

It's not happy with something it's running into, obviously. Are you trying to go from 10240 to 10586? Don't know what you currently are on. You could spend hours/days fighting the "Upgrade" path, when a clean install will start you fresh. Probably spend less time reinstalling your apps and transferring your data back. Backup first to something external and disconnect it when doing the clean install.

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro via the Keep-Everything upgrade option.
Every attempt has the install failing after hitting 29% completion.

I've re-downloaded 3 times, have uninstalled everything that the upgrader suggested was incompatible (including security software), have tried installing from a USB, and closing all non-windows processes. I never downloaded any W8 Previews.
I know the 'quick-fix' is to pick the Keep-Nothing option, though I'd like to avoid that as much as possible since it will mean having to re-install a couple of month's worth of bandwidth.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi

Much like a chap a while back I have a WRT160N V3 Router from Linksys/Cisco. I have successfully upgraded it to dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt160nv3 (DD-WRT v24-sp2 (01/02/10) mini), and I am now trying to upgrade it to dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_hotspot.bin to get Hotspot System support. Every time I have received the message "Upgrade Failed", and I can't figure out what's wrong, because this release supports this router revision.

I've tried all the 30/30/30 reboots and changing browsers etc but no luck.

Any ideas? I want Hotspot System as it gives me a simple, free portal based hotspot, am also open to other solutions?

Thanks!

I've tried many suggestions, including removing files, system cleanup, etc but it consistently fails with the 0x80240031 error code. Other Windows updates are successful, just the 14316.

Its not a system hardware problem as it is a triple boot system with Win7/Win10/Insider Win 10. Each are on separate drives. The Insider installation is on a separate 1GB hard drive and the only thing installed, other than the default Win 10 applications, is Malwarebytes.

I don't see a 14316 ISO yet so I can't just download that and reinstall.

A:Upgrade Fails Install After KB976902 Update

Out of courtesy I will be starting a new thread referencing this one since, at this writing, it is a year and a half old. I am having very much the same problems, although I am not absolutely sure that they began with installation of the KB976902. An MS telephone support tech says to backup and format. I want to do an in-place reinstall, if that will return my Windows functionality. I'll post a new thread with the SUR log, in hopes someone may be able to provide instructions how (and whether) I can replace the missing component store objects or delete/repair their invalid references.

W7 64 bit volume licensed
Happily working and activated for several years.
I did all upgrade checks and upgraded to W10 - this failed (USB issues) so rolled back to W7 ... quick & painless and all working fine.
However the original product key has been replaced with what I assume is a temporary one ....

I have a print out of all my product keys for machine .... so went to:
computer > system > change product key and it fails on the original known good key with Error code 0xC004E003 - license evaluation failed

I went to the KB 931276 article followed various steps but no joy ..... tried activation line it the refers you to but that wants activation ID not product key.

I have the original volume license install disc ... (pre licensed all versions of W7) I can rerun that if there is a way to get a new product key without having to do a clean install.

A:W7 product key fails after upgrade roll back

Contact the original company/educational establishment where you got the VOLUME key, as they are the only ones that can help you.
