I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It's not critical, but you could get rid of it by uninstalling KB3022345 and/or KB3068708 and hiding the latter when it reappers in your offered updates list.

Please post the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log and C:\Windows\Logs\CheckSUR.Persist.log files.

Hello and welcome tenlakes mate I see you have done the sfc and I would suggest you run this as well if you haven't already

just for another option you could run these they don't take long and will eliminate anything from that direction

Hi,

This is my first post, and not all that clever with pcs, so apologies in advance if I've missed something out.

I have been getting this error code repeatedly when trying to install update KB2922229 for a couple of months now. Never had any problems before. Other updates were installing just fine, but I am now getting the same error code when trying to install update KB2871997. As both of these updates seem to be related to security, I am getting a bit concerned.

I have followed the steps in the Windows Update Posting Instructions, running SURT and an SFC scan. Logs attached.

Hope someone will be kind enough to help with this.

Have you tried installing the updates again since running the CheckSUR/SURT?

If not, please do so, and let us know what happens - First do a check for Updates, and see if the updates appear at all - they may not.

The update is called:
nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.
After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts.
I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there.
I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

A:Optional update in windows update is giving me a blue screen.

It looks as though the update changed something in nvlddmkm.sys, and for some reason, it wasn't changed back when I did the system restore. I have no idea how to go about fixing it.

Hello all, I recently tried installing the latest updates from Microsoft and right afterwards my computer started acting strange. For instance, I couldn't seem to connect to the internet. I tried to do an uninstall one by one but, that looked like it was going to take a while so I rolled back to the day before with System Restore.
Right now I have re-downloaded the updates and I guess I'll try them one by one and see which one causes the problem. I was wondering if anyone else was having any trouble or is it just something with my computer only? I use Windows XP, Zone Alarm, AVG antivirus. Thanks,Toni.

A:Solved: Is Windows Update giving anybody else trouble?

toni: I have had no trouble with Windows update and have heard of no trouble from other people. Perhaps it was just a coincident that you lost your internet after d/l the updates.
Evidently you did you get your internet up again, since you are redownloading the Updates.

I have lurked in this forum in the past - always finding answers. Thanks to all the experts contributing to this forum.

This time I joined so I could post, as I have been unable to find a solution to my problem.

I can install all updates except for SP1. I keep getting error 800736B3.

I ran the Update Troubleshooter, which claims to have repaired Win Update components - still same error.

I then successfully ran the hotfix KB947821. The same error occurs.

I ran sfc /scannow & no integrity violations were found.

I also tried again after a clean boot - same error.

I don't have a clue as to what to try now. Any suggestions?

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I've been trying to solve this for a few months now but I haven't gotten anywhere. I've followed all the instructions here and they still continue to fail.

Windows Update Posting Instructions
I would really appreciate any insight as to what you think may be causing the issue, reformatting would really set me back since this computer has some industry specific CAD programs that are a pain to setup.

thanks again,Mark

For some reason I cant post an attachment "attach button doesn't respond, in fact none of them do", I'll add a reply to the thread to see if I can then.

Update: Sorry about the missing attachments, I moved them out of the folder and forgot to attach, there are a couple of older CBS Persist files if you need them.

thanks

Hello all. I am relatively new to using Vista and am hoping someone can help me. All of my users have standard user accounts on their PCs. There are some specific programs installed which need to be updated regularly. However, updates require the administrator password, which means I have to do the updates on each PC myself. Is there a way to set the permissions so the user can update only the programs I designate? Thanks.

I've been trying to update Security Essentials now for a couple weeks and I keep getting the following error message:

I am running Win7 64. What is causing this error and how do I fix it?

I haven't updated Win7 in quite some time, perhaps that's it?

I didn't want to do all of the updates to keep getting notifications/pushes to upgrade to Win10 - I don't want it and want to stay on Win7.

Thanks.

A:Security Essentials is giving error when trying to update

Hi:

Yes, the fact that you have not updated Windows with important security patches for "quite some time" may be contributing to your problem.

The free upgrade offer from Win7 to Win10 ended months ago.
There are no more "GWX" reminders.
So there is currently no solid reason to refuse important security patches for Windows and your other MS software (e.g. MS Office).
If you are missing one or more months worth of security updates, your system is vulnerable.

As a general principle (with rare exceptions), one should install at least ALL "critical" and "important" SECURITY updates.
The decision to install "Recommended" and "Optional" patches, especially those that are not security-related, is up to the user. You'll need to read the descriptions of each available patch to determine if it applies to or might be needed for your system.

I do not use MSE.
So I cannot help specifically with the error message you report.
But, for starters, I would suggest running Windows Update manual checks and installing ALL available "Critical" and "Important" SECURITY updates.
It may have to be done in batches, depending on how many of them you are missing.
In other words, do not try to install 20 or 30 security patches all at once.
I suggest leaving ".NET framework" patches for last.

And you will need to reboot several times during the process, when prompted.
It's a good idea NOT to use the computer for other chores during the update process.
And one needs a lot of patience -- making sure KB 3020369 and KB 3172605 are installed (manually, if necessary) may expedite the process.

Please report back and let us know how it goes, so that we can all learn.

Thanks,
MM

I m using the RC of Windows and love it Switched from Vista to it So more Windows 7 Giving space. I got GB currently and it s doing well I just would like to split my drive in two Giving Windows 7 more space. GB because I rarely no never use Vista but I do run applications off of it s partition So I wanted to split it I figured it would be easy go into Vista shrink the volume by around GB and extend the Windows partition No go I was only able to get Vista to take GB from it s partition which is useless I Giving Windows 7 more space. heard a lot about gParted so I tried that out I was able to boot from my Flash drive and got into it I took GB from the drive and attempted to give it to Windows s partition No go it wouldn t allow me to allocate more than MB So I am wondering if there is something I am doing wrong Just in case I ll list the steps from gParted I feel safer to do it from something Giving Windows 7 more space. not on the hard drive Boot up gParted Right click Windows Vista drive and click Move Resize Type in the amount I wanted it to be In this case GB - keep in mind this is not how much I wanted to take off but how much I wanted it to be Let it do it s magic until it was quot done quot unallocating good thing it doesn t do anything until you click Apply Right click the Windows drive and click Move Resize Attempt to enter in the amount I want to increase it by and try using the up arrow Booting back into Windows after failing and writing this So according to my steps am I doing anything wrong in the steps to make to partition the drive Thank you nbsp

A:Giving Windows 7 more space.

I hope you backed your data up first!

Have you looked into gParted's ntfsresize command? It's not part of the GUI. It may help.

I certainly don't want to discourage you from this, but in general I have been advised and pass on the advice to avoid messing with partitions. Delete and create all you like, but stretching/shrinking is just asking for trouble. If your resizing utility makes one wrong step the whole partition is toast. It's happened to me- with gParted in fact on NTFS.

Backup, backup backup!

Ever since I installed Windows 7 and IE 9 my computer has been giving me fits. Pages and games load extremely slow and I have to refresh constantly. Windows live mail is a nightmare as it takes over 2 minutes to load an email just so that I can delete it. Can I uninstall IE 9 without causing any problems on my computer? And will it revert back to IE 8? I'm thinking that IE 9 is what is giving me such problems and I have heard that it causes a lot of problems with other programs and games. I scan and defrag all the time so I know that isn't my problem with too much junk on the computer. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are still able to get into Windows - navigate to C:/Windows/minidump. Gather all files and compress into a .zip file. Upload it to your next post.

Test your RAM by using memtest. Link available in my signature. Only have one stick of RAM installed at a time and let the test run for ~ 4 passes.

Test your HDD by using the appropriate diagnostic tool. Link available in my signature.

In turn, these other users might find things a bit frustrating when they try out an OS that is not familiar to them. All OSes have their nuances and ways of doing things and when you get used to the OS and its limitations you will find things a lot easier. No OS is perfect, and there are always features present in OS A that we would like to see in OS B (and vice-versa).

My home built i7 running Win 10 Home 64 bit was fine for a few days, and then I had trouble with audio. I could hear all sounds but trying to record audio was impossible, It wouldnt even load the programms i use (Roxio creator 10 and Audacity).

After wasting a day resintalling programmes, updating drivers I'd had enough, so i decided to Settings > Recovery > Go back to Windows 7.

I clicked that, went through the various options, and clicked on return to Windows 7.

The computer shut down, then booted up....and came back with Windows 10 still working. I have looked online but can find no one else with the problem !

Ive tried 8 times now. Windows 10 is very tenacious. How do I get the PC to do the apparently simple task of returning to Win 7 ?

Just checking. When did you upgrade to Win10 as I'm pretty sure the rollback function only works for 30 days after upgrade?

So, I've been thinking about giving Windows 8 a try (once the Consumer Preview rolls out February 29th), but a have a few questions before going through with this:

- How does the licensing works on an Beta/Developer-Consumer preview build? is there a 30-day window? how does it works?

- Are the latest graphics/sound/etc drivers fully compatible with Windows 8?

- Same with games, will Steam/Origin work without a hitch?

- I think I know the answer to this but, will there be an option to disable the Metro UI completely?

Thanks!

A:Thinking of giving Windows 8 a try, few questions:

There are numerous ways to switch the mode from mobile to desktop. I am playing Elder Scrolls Skyrim on Steam without problems. No problems with drivers of any kind even in the Alpha release. The beta version will have a timb bomb that lasts almost a year.

Hello

This is my first time registering for one of these kinds of forums, so I'm not familiar with protocol. I'll just explain what the problem is.

I noticed last night, when I was trying to transfer photos from my cell phone to my laptop, that every time I tried to copy the pictures and move them, windows explorer would crash. I gave up, and today the problems started to get worse. The audio keeps turning off and on, and windows explorer is still crashing, but now my entire laptop slows down every time I open it. I already ran CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in safe mode, but halfway through the anti-malware scan my computer just turned off. Also, I installed ProcessExplorer, but I didn't see anything that looks weird, but I'm not very familiar with different processes. I'm not sure what's going on anymore, but I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks!

Hi -

See if you can run - http://www.microsoft.com/security/sc...s/default.aspx

If it too causes system shutdown, run SeaTools for DOS HDD diagnostics.

SeaTools for DOS ISO download - http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/s...20EURO.144.ISO

Burn to CD-R with ImgBurn (or similar app) - http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Boot with SeaTools CD, run the LONG test.

Have never had Avast free home interfere with anything, but you can disable it to try the Updates by right clicking it's icon in system tray and "turn off real time protection"

I note that another recent thread on this error found by Googling also remains unresolved.

If you bought your Win7 retail, you are entitled to MS excellent tech support which will work the case through to satisfaction. Those Updates are standard and can wait a few days.

georgie, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Two AGP cards? Like to see the specs for the motherboard that came with two AGP slots.

As far as a driver goes you're not going to find one as Nvidia never made one. The best you're going to find is a Vista beta driver,

ForceWare Release 95

that does work with Windows 7.

Well I've got another stumper for the community here This time it's my windows ultimate x laptop During Windows Starting, 0xc000000e Not error Giving a routine starting up of Windows the startup process halted and rebooted the whole computer It will constantly loop unless you press the quot startup repair quot button which gives instructions to boot from the setup DVD This screen also gives the error xc e at the bottom accompanied by the message quot The Boot Selection Failed Because A Required Device Is Inaccessible quot At this point I hadn't shut down the computer Windows Not Starting, Giving error 0xc000000e for several days Here's a list of things I could think of that had changed between now and the last successful boot that could have caused a problem - Updated Malwarebytes' requested a reboot - Updated Windows Live Writer - Installed potential malware this one seems like a likely candidate for catastrophic problems to me After this I immediately gave safemode a try and found I could boot up okay that way so I ran a full scan in malwarebytes of Windows Not Starting, Giving error 0xc000000e all my partitions It found somethin' results but all except for one were false positives and the one that it did find was in the recycle bin or something Nevertheless I cleansed the one file rebooted still no fix Next I busted out the setup DVD to do one of its startup repairs The first time I ran it it said something about fixing a disk something or another and something else about it taking possibly over an hour After five minutes of Hard drive activity it said it was done so I restarted and got the same problem Tried Windows startup repair again and this time it gave a more generic sounding message with no eta It spent a good - minutes of hard drive activity before I got a quot do you want to send this information to Microsoft quot popup thing It had no effect apparently because I'm still having the same problem All the rest of everything appers to still be intact What can I do from here Thanks - Bunny

I attempted to install the Netflix application on my Windows 8 laptop, and it told me there was an issue with the firewall.

It gave me the Error Code 5, so I fixed it with this video. The instructions within got rid of the Error 5; however, I'm now getting the following message when I attempt to start the firewall from "Services."

There reason I'm trying to start it from Services is because when I try to start the Firewall and "Use recommended settings" from settings page, it displays this, and loads for a second, and then doesn't do anything.

Also, I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but when I try to start Windows Defender, it shows this.

I don't know what to do, and this is frustrating me to no end.

I ran the upgrade assistant and it showed me a list of what is and is not compatible w/the new OS. I proceeded to the next screen and it suggests the upgrade to windows 8 pro. My issue is that the current version of windows 7 is not genuine. Does the upgrade assistant not look to see if my OS is genuine or not? If I buy the upgrade version and try to install it, will it fail due to the current license not being genuine? I built this system myself, but I cannot find a system builder disc w/o going through amazon.com to get it and I'd really like to avoid them if I can.

Hello,
Recently my computer had a virus and when I fixed the virus it screwed a few things up in my system. I tried to do a repair with my XP startup disk and the problems persisted. It got to the point where whenever I started windows it would go to a black screen. I figured it was time to give up and just do a clean install, so I ran my startup disc again, it loaded everything up, I said I wanted to install Windows, and then when I pressed F8 for the liscensing agreement, it goes to a Blue Screen of Death, telling me there is a Registry error. I am absolutly clueless as to what to do at this point, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have a android smartphone which I use to run my android applications from my windows 7 dell laptop. This arrangement worked absolutely.I would connect my smartphone to my laptop through a USB and my computer would detect it and I could launch my app on smartphone whenever I want.

Recently I bought a new dell laptop, having windows 8.1 installed. But this new one is giving me too many problems with my smartphone. My smartphone is no more detected as smoothly as with previous one. And laptop frequently gives out a background sound when android device is connected to it.I m really annoyed with all these problems. It is hampering my android development work as device is detected only intermittently.
Please help me.

Although sounds are an issue, this is not really a "sound" problem (this forum section). It is more an application software issue.

My three-year old genuine OEM Windows 7 began giving me "counterfeit" messages a few days ago. I can still use Windows, but it occasionally nags me to enter the license key. I tried to do so with a copy of the key that I noted three years ago when I got the laptop in the UK, but it did not accept it. Also, as I have not seen the "counterfeit" messages before, so I do not know if they are legitimate from Microsoft, or symptom of a virus. The messages began after someone in a laptop maintenance place pulled the battery when it was switched on but unplugged. After that incident CHKDSK appeared to need to fix quite a few issues on the HD. Those HD fixes *might* have caused Windows to forget its licence key, though it seems improbable.

A:Genuine Windows 7 starts giving "counterfeit" messages

Hello,

Lets start by running the following programme.
 MGADiag
Please download MGADiag and save the file to your Desktop.
Double-click the MGADiag icon on your Desktop.
Click .
Click .
Press the Windows Key + r on your keyboard at the same time. Type Notepad and click OK.
Click Edit followed by Paste in Notepad.
Replace the numbers & letters with 'x's in the line beginning with Windows Product Key (to hide your Product Key from the public).
Copy the contents of the log and paste in your next reply.

First off, because of some posts I've seen, I AM and administrator for our computers. My question is, using Windows 7 Ultimate, how can I allow "Power Users" to restart Windows services without giving them Admin rights? We monitor equipment that requires restarting of services, but I don't want to give the group account admin rights. And yes, this is frustrating.

A:How to Allow Restarting Windows Services Without Giving Them Admin Rights

You can possibly try one of the following links.
How to grant users rights to manage services in Windows Server 2003
delegating control of services - Second Post

I suggest testing it before you implement it.

I'm using WEBROOT Secure Anywhere and have just started receiving messages in the Windows 10 action center stating that my antivirus and windows defender are both turned off. When I check I can clearly see that WEBROOT is turned ON. I went to the WEBROOT community and can see that many Windows 10 users have suddenly started to receive this message. Anyone here seeing something similar with their AV software? Any ideas how to stop these annoying messages?

Recently, I started noticing that whenever I start up my computer and open up Windows Live Mail, it'll start accessing my hard drive for a good while and, as a result of this, it will cause other things on my computer to load up longer than usual (like Dead Island, for example, will take ages to load when Windows Live Mail is reading my hard drive). Only way I can fix this is by sitting there and waiting for Windows Live Mail to finish reading my hard drive or by exiting out of Windows Live Mail via the task manager (after this my comp will load up things just fine). I did a virus scan and I am virus free.

Something is up with my Windows Live Mail and I don't know what it is. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Sounds like it might be one of your drivers not working correctly. Did you download the Windows 7 drivers for your devices?

Also, I've experienced a problem with explorer.exe crashing a lot and it was due to my privacy settings in Firefox. Do you have Firefox installed?

Hi! Everytime I try to play a sound in Win Media Player 10, I get a message that my memory is low....this happens when I am online so I sign off and it still continues. I installed Version 11 when I got that message, so I reverted back to V. 10, but it's still the same thing.

I am running XP Pro, with 1 gig of memory. I would think that memory is sufficent, wouldn't you? I have never gotten memory low messages before, this just started a few days ago. I can see having a problem when online but not offline. Would appreciate any help. TIA

A:Windows Live Mail giving me a weird problem. Please help.

Hi, and welcome to TSF.

At first I was thinking it might be your HDD that is about to die.. But just wondering, whenever you close the windows live mail with task manager. Does that realy fix your problem? If you startup any other program. Doesn't that slow you computer down?

I've been managing a group of stores running peer-to-peer NT 4.0 Workstations for a few years now. In each location, we have two pc's, but no dedicated server or NT Server OS. We have seen problems with NT's re-establishing mapped network drives upon startup from the very beginning. Our machines will at times boot up and successfully appear to make reconnections to mapped drives, giving no errors. However, when programs open that require the use of data on the mapped drives, we find that the mappings have not truly been restored. In Explorer, the drive mappings show the red mark over them, but you can immediately expand the folders and view files over the wire. Is there a tried-and-true way to re-establish the network mappings through some sort of batch file in Startup? Also, is this a bug?

Thanks in advance for help!

Hi there I have a fairly new machine running Windows In the last week or so it has requesting and activation Windows giving errors 8.1 runndll given various rundll errors I have tried to do a system restore but when I get to the System Protection option i get the attached system properties protection error message In addition to this Windows 8.1 requesting activation and giving runndll errors it has started requesting that I activate windows it s never asked me to do this before and I assume was activated when I purchased the machine However it doesnt allow me to activate and just says Windows cant activate at this time Try activating again later If that doesnt work contact support Admittedly I havent contacted support yet but I cant envisage Microsoft being much assistance I deactivated AVG to try running combofix which I saw on another thread here but it wouldnt run and gave me the error that ComboFix is not meant to run in Compatibility mode I haven t attempted to sort that out but that is why AVG is disabled as you will see below I have also just discovered sweetim on the machine which I am about to attempt to remove using SpyHunter Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version OS Version Microsoft Windows bit Processor AMD A - K APU with Radeon tm HD Graphics AMD Family Model Stepping Processor Count RAM Mb Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD D Mb Hard Drives C Total - MB Free - MB Motherboard ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC A XM-A Antivirus AVG AntiVirus Free Edition Disabled nbsp

A:Windows 8.1 requesting activation and giving runndll errors

Sorry, I just realised the attachment isnt allowed. The error says:

SystemPropertiesProtection.exe - Bad Image
C:\Windows\system32\SPP.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000020

The main rundll error says:
RunDLL
There was a problem starting C:\Windows\system32\WerConCpl.dll
C:\Windows\system32\WerConCpl.dll is not a valid Win32 application

I tried to post a hijack this log but hijack this gave me the following error:
For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, Hijack this may NOT be able to fix this.
If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this click start, run and type:
notepad C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and press enter, find the line(s) HiJackThis reports and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts.'(with quotes, and reboot.
For Vista...

(I haven't done this as I'm not sure what it means). I seem to be able to run HiJack this and run the scan but if I click analyse this it says No Internet Connections Available (no idea why it says that as internet is working fine). If I click Save log, it opens the save logfile box and then a blank notepad file opens with the error
Cannot find the C:\Program Files (x86)\Trens Micro\Hijackthis\hijackthis.log file.
Do you want to create a new file?
Click Yes, and I jsut still have a blank notepad file titled untitled.

A:Genuine Windows 7 starts giving "counterfeit" messages

Are your updates turned off.
I've had several clients call me with a similar issue and it was due to having Windows Updates turned off, leaving me with the impression that MSC REALLY doesn't like to have that "in and out door" closed on them, so they terrorize users with that "Not Genuine" notification.
On the other hand, if your updates are turned on, then I have no idea what's causing it but you might be able to fix it by opening a command window as administrator and copying and pasting in the following text,
sfc /scannow
then hit enter.
Job will take around 20 minutes.

If I try to launch a program shortly after Windows 7 boots up, the program will open but every time I click in the window, the screen flashes and the window shows (not responding) up top. The screen will flash again shortly and look available but again, if I try to do anything the process repeats.

I have to close the program and reopen it. Any suggestions on this?

A:Loading a program without giving Windows 7 plenty of time to boot up

Your best option is to cut down on the number of programs that Windows is loading along with itself. A lot of programs will help you do this, including Windows Defender (which Windows recomends for the task), and CCleaner (ccleaner.com). By reducing the number of such programs, you computer should be ready for use much faster.

Services you don't need can also be disabled to the same effect, but be careful. Disabling a critical service could cause the computer to fail.

I'm giving a my old laptop to my friend but first I want to reinstall Windows XP so all my data will be wiped.

I bought the laptop used, so it didn't come with an OS DVD. I searched through my stuff and managed to find the Operating System DVD for my old computer which the disc to install Windows XP Media Center 2005.

So can I install this OS on the laptop? And if I do, does that mean all of my data will be gone (which is my goal)?

A:[SOLVED] Giving Dell Laptop to friend, question about reinstalling Windows XP Media C

Technically, if it's an OEM disk then, no, you can't install it. If it's a full (or upgrade) version then you should be fine providing it is not installed on any other machine. If you don't care whether it has an OS installed or not then boot from the CD (DVD?) that you have and allow the setup to proceed as far as the disk formatting section. Allow it to format and then cancel the install. Nice clean disk that only a forensic expert would be able to reconstruct any data that was there.

This problem seems to occur only if I'm connected to the internet. This problem occured after Windows made an automatic updates. I use a wireless connection with Chrome or Mozilla. Shortly after I access a website maybe one minute on the website Chrome
says NOT RESPONDING and nothing more can be done online. The computer freezes or locks up and nothing can be done. All I can do is remove the laptop battery to shut it off and then I can reboot again. The problem comes back and does not go away. I will
try safe mode internet connection to see if the problem occurs there. Any help would be appreciated as I need the internet.

You definitely have dll problems - interestingly similar to another post I'm dealing with elsewhere

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Okay I currently have the CBS file compressing but here's the basic rundown of my problem: Updates fail to install and gives me error code 800736B3, no matter how I try to install them, one at a time, all at once, on shutdown, while computer is running, etc. It has continually asked me to run checkdisk when I turn it on and won't run unless I do, and when it does run, it deletes files that are Corrupted, I think? Has crashed my computer once this past week which made me begin to look into the issue

Edit- The file won't attach normally so I've uploaded it to a public Google drive.
Link for that is here. https://drive.google.com/folderview?...Tg&usp=sharing

I am trying to assist a friend in repairing their windows update problems. I've made progress- but I have 5 Important updates that refuse to install...

IE11 - 9C59
KB2937610 - 800736B3
KB2972211 - 800736B3
KB3032323 - 800736B3
KB2791765 - 800736B3

the SURT was run- and got most of the updates to work other than the ones shown above.
sfc /scannow said all files were fine.

SURT has been run 4 or so times- it's not shown any repairs after the first run... as I would expect.

I've looked through the log files, but I am not really sure what I am looking for to indicate what the problem is.

I have attempted to attach the CBS.Zip file but I got a 404 error each time I clicked "Upload". This must be due to the size of the file. Here is a onedrive link to the zip file.

A:Windows Update: 800736B3 and 9C59

The upload is 8 times larger than the forum's 8MB size limit on Zip/RAR files - which is why it wouldn't upload here

Your first run of CheckSUR had the following summary...

Quote:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 1046
Found 31 errors
CSI C Mark Deployment Missing Total count: 31

The next was clear of errors - how did you go about fixing the C Mark errors, since CheckSUR wasn't able to do it?

The CBS.log file shows the expected errors for the updates (apart from the IE one)
e.g.

This looks to me as if the install is actually stuck in a pending state, and you need to roll it back...

This is the command to run when booted offline at a Repair Environment command prompt

dism.exe /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

This is supposed to revert all pended updates, and hopefully allow the system to start again - assuming it works, do another Check for Updates before attempting to install the updates again.

What on earth did you use to split the Zip files? I've tried 3 different tools, and all tell me the files are corrupt.

Please just zip two/3 files together and upload them separately, then do another 2/3 files.

Hello,

I seem to be running into a popular issue with Windows Update- 800736B3. WU is not completely broken, as it's still able to install updates to Security Essentials and non-system software (IE11, Office). All system updates, however, are failing. I've ran SURT and SFC scan, but both didn't report any outright errors. The logs should be attached to this post in the .zip

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Hi,

I tried a lot of things trying to resolve this issue but nothing worked.
I finally follow the procedure described on this forum, in the hope someone here can help.

I activated the Administrateur account (my system is in French) and ran the CheckSUR and Windows Update from this account as otherwise I can't access the CBS log file.
I joined the requested files,
Thank you by advance.
Alain

Your SFC scan was clear - but the background CBS data shows some severe problems.
PLease run the CheckSUR tool, and post the results...

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.
