Windows Update doesn't update. Error code C80003FA

Q: Windows Update doesn't update. Error code C80003FA

Hello,
First, excuse my english, I'm trying my best.

I get error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run.

I did the Windows Update Posting instructions. When I did the SURT installation, it didn't finish and I had to reboot the PC. Then it work.

I've tried sfc /scannow several times before with different results: sometimes finished with no errors, sometimes finish with unfixable errors and sometimes didn't finish at all.

I uploaded the CBS.zip

Hope you can help me, thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please also post the event logs...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...

Save the file as Appevt.evtx

Repeat for the System log

then zip both, and upload them.

Hello,

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Clean windows install doesn't fix it? You must be blocked, maybe your firewall???

A while ago I built my own computer and it worked fine for about two weeks However since then it has had many errors and problems with programs After wiping my drive and reinstalling countless times I've kind of been able to get it to work I'm using the computer to write this but I can't do any Windows Updates it gives me C80003FA, and More Malfunctioning, MSE Error Update Windows error C FA and Microsoft Security Essentials has gone crazy can't update MSE Malfunctioning, Windows Update Error C80003FA, and More won't scan so I'm running MSE Malfunctioning, Windows Update Error C80003FA, and More it without any antivirus I tried running MalwareBytes but when I tried to download it it wouldn't install and told me that the download was corrupted I've searched for solutions to the Windows Update Error and many people suggested restarting the Windows Update service renaming the folders etc and none of it has worked When I try to update Microsoft Security Essentials weird things happen The progress bar goes to the end but before it's about to finish it goes back to the beginning and starts again Then just before it finishes it stops and says that it failed to connect and can't update Also when I try to refresh the Windows Experience Index it errors in the middle of the assessment and closes I don't know what could be causing these problems my best guess is some sort of virus but that doesn't make sense either as I've wiped the drive multiple times and flashed the BIOS as well just in case it was something in the BIOS Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Hi,

2 weeks ago my dad reported me a Windows Update problem showing Code 8007370B. He is using Windows 7 Home Professional 32 bit system with SP1. He used the CheckSUR-Software producing the 2 file "checkSUR.log" & "CheckSUR.persist.log" with are attached.
Now I am visiting my parents and of course want to fix this problem.
I started "Sfc /scannow" which produced CBS.log, which I attached in zipped form.
From the checkSUR.log I see that "Package_for_KB2973112~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.0.cat" is missing. Somewhere I read I have to find that file and put it into "%windir%\Temp\CheckSUR\servicing\packages", right? But I didn't succeed finding the missing file.

Can anyone help?

Hello there,

Please try running the steps below and let me know if you continue to receive the error message while installing Windows Update.

Step 1: Reset the Windows Update Components

Press click the start menu, type cmd, then right-click cmd and select run as administrator. Once command prompt has opened, type each of the below one by one and press enter:net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
Step 2: Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter

The Windows Update Troubleshooter will check your system for any missing or corrupt files which are required to be able to install updates. As well as that, it will check to make sure the necessary services needed to use Windows Update are started.

Click here to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

I keep getting Windows Update Error Code's 8024000E & C80003FA whenever I search for new updates. Error code 8024000E is the most common. This has been an ongoing problems for several months now. I have run SURT multiple times as well as SFC and the FixIt tool. I've tried to re-register the Windows dll's following the instructions here: How do I reset Windows Update components? and I've tried disabling my Norton anti-virus software and done a full system scan all to no avail.

CBS logs are attached as requested.

Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,
Nommy

That's very reminiscent of similar errors in Win7 - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being non-genuine.
Please post an MGADiag report BEFORE doing the below potential fixes.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&DwnldID=17882

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

I didn't see any posts about this, so I hope I am not double posting.

After removing a drive load of viruses, I am still not able to update Windows Vista to Service Pack 1. I have even tried to create a new admin user account in hopes that this would work, but no go. I tried running sfc.exe / scannow from the CMD and it did report that it was unable to repair wextract.exe. Also, the file reportingevents.txt located in %system root%\windows\softwaredistribution\reportingevents.txt lists "Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80070490".
Although, I think Windows Defender can update. I need to take a break.

Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1

I have been trying unsuccessfully to do all of the helps to get Windows Update to check for updates and install. I tried all of the Fixit and Windows Update Troubleshooter batch files, etc. I thought I was making headway this morning when it said updates would install on the next shutdown. So I shutdown. Looks like 57 updates had a failed status. When I ran the check for updates again, I get the following error code:
C80003FA

I googled and really only found the same help items I have already tried, the fixit's etc.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

We know nothing about your computer, other than it's running Windows 7 Professional SP1, so do the following in it.
Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

Pleasefollow the WindowsUpdate Posting Instructions and postthe requested data

If thefile is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files untilthe final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately afterzipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for anumber of reasons)

Pleasealso post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Hi -

The first thing I would suggest that you try is removing PC-cillin Internet Security as its firewall can interfere with Windows Updates.

Trend Micro removal --> http://esupport.trendmicro.com/1/How...n-my-comp.aspx

Reboot upon completion.

Install MSE --> http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Try Windows Updates --> www.update.microsoft.com

Hello all I am scouring the internet for answers but I can't seem to find any so I thought I should ask the Gurus down at the Windows Vista Forums. Anyways I am trying to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 and all I get is this error. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

A:Windows Update Error Code 643

Hello Peacemaker,

When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows Installer error code "1603"

RESOLUTION

To successfully install the update, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer, and then reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer. You may have to work through more than one of the following methods.

Method 1: Manually remove and reinstall .NET Framework
To manually remove and reinstall the .NET Framework, follow these steps:

1. Remove the .NET Framework.
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Note each version of the .NET Framework that is already installed on the computer. Then, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework.
4. When you are prompted, restart the computer.
Method 2. Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to clean up the MSI database state for all the versions of the .NET Framework.

1. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe
2. Install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility as an administrator or as a user account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
3. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Install Cleanup.
4. In the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, remove all Windows Installer applications for the .NET Framework.
3. Restart the computer.
Download and then reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework that were previously installed on the computer.

Since mid October I've been having problems installing windows updates. I always get an error message with a code 646. The failed update is security for microsoft works 8. I've tried some solutions listed in older posts such as the notepad and command prompt, that didn't work. I went to microsoft's website to dowload the update directly from there and that didn't work... what else could I try???

Hello,

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 with Windows Updates set to download but no install yet, since many tools start at startup.
However our friends decided to install Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 without asking.
This caused a full hang of the system, including frozen mousepointer.
Hardreset made it come back and it booted up.
But Windows Update now needs to install this update which fails with error code 800F0900.
Found kb2887535 for manual install, which failed with error 800b0100.
Found kb947821 and ran it. Last %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log attached.

sfc /scannow reports Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
WUC code 800F0900
CBS Logs attached.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I have had quite a lot of problems trying to get Windows Update to work. I first noticed it when I couldn't get Windows Defender to update and realized that Windows Update didn't work. I've tried a number of recommended actions (Windows Update Troubleshooter, Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components.bat), but nothing seems to be clearing up the problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

This is likely te source of your problem...

Code:

... from the CheckSUR.log file.

Your CBS data is very old- the latest date in the log file is 18 May!!

Open Event Viewer

click on theWindows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.

Now click on theApplication entry - wait while it loads.

Click on 'File'in the menu bar and select Save...

Save the file asAppevt.evtx

Repeat for theSystem log

then zip both,and upload them.

A:How do i fix windows update error code 'C000022'?

The 500 error indicates that the file is too big - delete a couple of the oldest CBSPersist files, and try again.

Your MGADiag shows an interesting set of errors - guessing, I'd say that this may at least partially fix it....

This can result from mistakenly setting the System32 folder and its contents to 'Read Only' status.

Open Windows Explorer (Computer)
Navigate to the C:\Windows folder
Find the System32 sub-folder and right-click on it
select Properties

Clear the 'blob' from the 'Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)' box by clicking on it until it's plain white.
Click on Apply.

Make sure that the radio button for 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files' is set, and click OK.

Accept the Administrator prompt. After a couple of seconds, you'll be told there is an error - click on the 'Ignore all' button.

Wait for it to finish - it could take a couple of minutes.

OK out, and exit Windows Explorer.

Reboot twice

Post a new MGADiag report.

W7 update keeps telling me that there is an optional update for my Intel Graphics.
However, it won't install, saying that the update had failed, and gives me the following error code.

error Code 8007013

I've googled it, and searched here but can't find anything.

Anyone know what the error is ?

A:Windows 7 update error Code 8007013

The error code is missing a character - do you mean 8007013D ??

Is this a default install, or have you changed the paths for any of the standard folders?

Have a look in the Installed Updates, and Programs & Features listings If you can find the update listed, attempt to uninstall it.
Once uninstalled, reboot twice, then run another Check for Updates, and try installing it again.

Hello,

So a while ago my computer got that error and i literally tried everything i can to fix it, and failed. I now realize the reason i get an error is because a while ago i deleted my ProductId from the registry for a reason, and exported it but now i cant seem to find, i must have deleted it by accident. But now i literally how no idea if im able to recover it somehow, or recreate it. I would really appreciate if im able to recreate it somehow!

it was in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

remember theres ProductID and ProductId, i have ProductID which is located in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\00002119F20000000000000000F01FEC\InstallProperties

but i need ProductId, which is located only in \CurrentVersion

I tried what Noel said to do in another post and it did not work, but it did have my computer alert me of updates that needed installing. Once installed I started the update windows again and it is now been searching for updates for over 20 minutes. I tried closing and restarting but it does not stop searching. How do I fix this?

This can be a Winsock problem.....

Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and run the following command

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

you'll be advised to reboot - do so, and try again.

I already followed the steps written on this site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956702 . I already Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and run the System Update Readiness Tool. but the problem is still there. My PC cant still check for new updates. Hi all,

I'm facing with this problem today.
I have two updates available from Windows Update:

1) Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2687311)
2) Update for Microsoft Office suites (KB2596848)

I tried to download them but I got the error code: 8007003 as soon as the downloading start.

I don't have the Office Package but I have the viewer versions installed of them.

I'm assuming that I need to install these updates since the checking process shown them as to be installed.

Any idea?

Thank you

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it as an attachment to your reply

Please also download a new copy of the CheckSUR tool (a new version was released at the end of last week), run that, and upload the CheckSUR.log and CheckSUR.persist.log files

Have you EVER used Norton or McAfee products on that machine?
Try resetting the winsocks....
In an Elevated Command Prompt window, run the command

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

reboot on request, and test Windows Updates

Hello,

I have been trying to update my computer for about 6 months now to no avail. Updates are downloaded, but not installed - - instead I get error code 80070002 and the updates all fail . I have tried using the stand alone installer, and all the recommendations that windows help offered, but no luck. I read through another thread and tried using the MGADiag.exe program and my OS is genuine, but the error code 80070002 comes up repeatedly throughout the report. Please, if anybody knows how to resolve this issue, I would be very appreciative!

A:Windows Update Error Code: 80070002 - Help PLEASE!

80070002 is a File Not Found error. It suggests (to me) a corruption of the downloads. Give this a try (you must be using an adminstrator account for this):

- Go to Start and type "cmd" (without the quotes)
- at the top of the Search box will be an entry for CMD.EXE - right click on it and select "Run as administrator"
- In the black window that appears, type "net stop wuauserv" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Wait until the screen tells you that it's completed successfully. Leave this window open as you'll need it later. If it prompts to stop other services, tell it yes.

- Open up Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. Delete the contents of the folder (but not the folder itself).

- Go back to the black window and type "net start wuauserv" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

- Reboot and see if Windows Update works now. Let us know what happens.

I have been getting this problem for a few days now but can't find how to fix it(800B0001). I have tried SFC /SCANNOW and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth but it didn't help. I have search this forum butdidn't find anything about this exactly. On the other hand, I found some stuff about this problem but on the windows seven forum (I am not sure if this applies to windows 8 thought). Does anybody know a fix expect reinstalling? Thanks in advance.

A:windows update error code 800B0001

A system restore and the re-installing of a few programs fixed it.

A:80070002 error code when trying to update windows 7 64-bit

You have bitflips in the registry - possibly the result of problems with RAM.
I suggest testing with MemTest86+ first to check that out.

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

You have a rather large number of errors in the CheckSUR scan.
At least one leads me to think that you may have a hardware problem.

While I try and get a fix protocol together, please check out your RAM using Memtest86++ - RAM - Test with Memtest86+

May I please ask for assistance with a machine with failed Windows Updates?

Steps I have taken:

* I downloaded and ran Microsoft's System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821).

* I ran sfc /scannow. There were no integrity violations found.

* I checked for Windows Updates and found the following "Important" updates:Internet Explorer 11
KB2871997
KB3000483
KB3004375
KB3031432
KB3033929
KB3045999
KB3046269
* I ran the updates. It reports that 7 succeeded and 1 failed. The error found is: Code 9C57 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.Internet Explorer 11 is the update that "failed", but the seven other updates are offered again the next time I check for updates.

What can I do to get Windows Updates working again? Thank you kindly for any assistance.

I normally set my update settings to check automatic and notify me if any updates. A few weeks had passed and I suddenly realized I hadn't had any updates, so I went in and checked manually. When I click check for updates the status bar moves for about 5-25
seconds and then displays an error. There was a problem checking for updates - Errors Found - Code 80244019. When I did a search for this error code, all of the answers were referring to Vista. I am running Windows 8.1, and this computer has never had Vista
installed. If anyone has any answers I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank-You

Hello to all. This is my first thread here in SevenForums. I have three updates that aren't installing. All of them report to as error code 80073712

PS don't suggest anything like repair install or a reinstall of Windows. This PC doesn't belong to me.

System Restore is turned off and no restore points are available for storage reasons.

Thanks to all who will help!

Attached: CBS.log and the photo of the three updates.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Hi there... I have not been able to do a Windows Update on my PC since the past two or three weeks I think... I get an error that says "Windows Update error code 8024402F".

I have tried a lot of things... checked all the posts possible.. here is the list

1. Followed the windows troubleshooter... no success
2. Changed the date settings to system time.. no success
3. Ran a sfc /scannow... not detected anything... no success
4. Reformatted my PC and tried again... no success
5. Disabled all the antivirus programs and ran malwarebytes to check for any malicious software... no success

Does anyone have a resolution for this... I would really appreciate it... because its become really frustrating right now...

Many thanks... Watiing for a quick response.

FYI if anyone else encounters this problem, try the following:

1. Turn off Windows Updates and disable the 'Windows Update' service.

2. Delete everything under the following folders;

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore

3. Download this Microsoft fixit from their site. Launch and select the
Aggressive option.

4. When prompted, restart Windows.

5. Enable Windows Updates and it should successfully download and install the failed updates.

Note: Prior to this, I had tried the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821) [May 2013], but it didn't work.

As an alternative, you could perhaps skip Step 3, restart after Step 2 and proceed with Step 4.

Some may have other solutions that have helped them, it'll be good to read to assist others.

Hope this helps.

KB 2837515
Windows Update fails with error 0x80243004 or 80243004

We are getting an error referencing the above KB article on several of our client machines and I am looking for the right GPO to modify to show the Windows Update notification icon.  The resolution references the manual client fix, which works,
but because this is happening on so many machines, I believe the correct solution is to resolve this via GPO.

The one GPO that looks like it has a remote possibility of affecting us like so is...
User Config > Admin Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Turn off notification area cleanup

kb923100 gives a link in method1 that offers a "fix it for me". have you tried that yet? (direct link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971187 )

then try method 2 (run uninstaller then reinstall components) noting that you need to install them in the order listed as altering the order may cause conflicts.

an aversion to manual regedit is very much ok ;)

Hey guys I have a problem when looking for updates in Windows VIsta Home Premium.
I freshly reinstalled Vista after getting some weird errors and not starting up last time so I had to use the Vista recovery disk. I promptly tried to check for updates in Windows Update but it gave me the error code "C0150004". It suggested to get Fix It but it wouldn't install PowerShell so I couldn't use that.

Please Help me with my problem!
Thanks

A:Windows Update Error Code "C0150004"

I would suggest the following steps after which you can try to install the Windows Updates.

1) Empty the software distribution folder

1. Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search box, right-click services.msc, and then click Run as administrator.

2. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Stop.

3. Minimize the Services (local) window.

4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.

Note : By default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the drive :\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. In this location, drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed. Example "C:\windows\softwaredistribution"

5. Make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then maximize the Services (local) window.

6. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Start.

7. Restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again.

A:Windows Update Error code:80070490

Hello Gamer,

To resolve this issue, you must perform a repair installation of Windows Vista. Performing a repair installation will restore the current Windows installation to the version of the installation DVD. This also requires the installation of all updates that are not included on the installation DVD.

Follow these steps:

1. Close all applications, and then restart the computer.
2. Insert the Windows Vista DVD in the computer's DVD drive.
3. In the Setup window, click Install Now.

Note If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:
1. Click Start
Collapse this imageExpand this image
Start button
, and then type Drive:\setup.exe in the Start Search box.

Note The Drive placeholder is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive.
2. In the Programs list, click Setup.exe.
3. In the Setup window, click Install Now.
4. Click Go online to obtain the latest updates for installation (recommended).
5. Type the CD key if you are prompted to do this.
6. Click Yes to accept the Microsoft Software License Terms.
7. On the Which kind of installation do you want? screen, click Upgrade.
8. When the installation is complete, restart your computer, and then try to install the updates.

Read more on this here: You receive a "0x80070490" error code when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates
Hope this will help you.

Cheers...

A:Windows update - error code 8007010B

I'll tell you that registry cleaners aren't recommended around here simply because they can harm your computer by cleaning the wrong thing if you don't know what you are doing. I'd stay away from them if I were you. I can't be sure about this, but I'll tell you that ZoneAlarm's reputation's gone down in the past few months. Some of the things they've done are appalling. And one thing to check is the error you got regarding Windows Resource Protection. WRP is the mechanism Windows uses to protect its crucial files so that users cannot touch them. I don't think WUA uses WRP at all, but I'll look into it for you. And another thing to check for is to ensure that you are connected to the internet when you check for updates. If not, then you'll get an error for WUA's lack of access to the Microsoft site will cause downloads to fail.

I keep getting an error code 9C48 when trying to install this one important update:
Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
Download size: 69.1 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
Update type: Important

Also every time I turn my computer off at night there is always a message saying installing 1 out of 1 updates.

A:Windows Update Error Code 9C48

Please try out this fix. It may solve this problem or error.
1. First of all close all programs which are running on your computer and restart the Windows.
2. When Windows have started then click on the “Start” button and then click on the “All programs”
3. Now click on the “Accessories” and after that click on the “Run”.
4. Now you have to type "Services.msc" command in “Run” to open the Administrator Tools' Services panel.
5. Now find the "Windows Module Installer" service entry. If it’s status is 'disabled' then right click the entry and choose 'Properties' and change the startup state to 'Manual', click 'Apply' and then 'OK'.
6. Restart your computer.

If that doesn't work try this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/ie-10-worldwide-languages

I've been dealing with this error for about two months now. It took me that long until I found this site. Any way, I've run the SURT, The sfc scan, both completed successfully. For about the past two months Windows update has failed to run. If I try to run it manually it just sits there spinning its wheels. It does not appear to end or produce an error code.
I have seen the message "could not check for updates automatically"
I've been to the MS site and downloaded both
MicrosoftFixit.wu.RNP.6329995410378136.2.1.Run.exe
and
WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab
and the third party
Repair-tool.exe by ParetolLogic
but none of these fix the problem.
Today I have run SURT as instructed and the output from sfc /scannow is attached.
Update is still refusing to do anything.

In this case, it doesn't matter too much as all the files involved are the same.
