Q: Error 800736B3 - resistant to solution

I am running Win Pro SP x on my Macbook Air using Parallels One VM is working perfectly and is accepting all updates the other suddenly stopped accepting updates starting July I have checked Seven Forums Microsoft and Googled and tried all the suggested things NoelDP seems to be successful at helping folks resolve their issues I've run SURT a number of time in different combinations restart no restart SFC scan did not return any problems I cleared the updates and the downloaded files The error codes are all B there were a few others that have disappeared since I tried the different methods to resolve see screen shot from My CBS zip file is MB and to big to upload I will - Error resistant to solution 800736B3 attach a log file that I copied I noticed that some of the KB in the list of pending updates are for x but that does not seem completely unusual I manually downloaded and installed and X and it failed too KB There is a screenshot of update history included I will gladly post Error 800736B3 - resistant to solution all the links that I used if desired Your help is appreciated because I must have spent hours configuring this VM of Windows before it started failing the updates

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have uncovered something that may help with the issue.
Using https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/827218 the automatic detection says I have 32-bit OS but when I check manually it displays that I am using a 64-bit system. See attached images

A:error code 800736B3 installing SP1

Put the win7 disc in and choose upgrade then after that it will restart.

After you have acepted the upgrade it will allow you to install the sp1 .

Once win7 has upgraded ,but still keeping your system in tact ,will start the whole update process. After about a hour or two of updates it will install sp1 with no issue .

Also if you are useing a highend gaming card virus protect etc it might keep it from installing as well

Okay I currently have the CBS file compressing but here's the basic rundown of my problem: Updates fail to install and gives me error code 800736B3, no matter how I try to install them, one at a time, all at once, on shutdown, while computer is running, etc. It has continually asked me to run checkdisk when I turn it on and won't run unless I do, and when it does run, it deletes files that are Corrupted, I think? Has crashed my computer once this past week which made me begin to look into the issue

Edit- The file won't attach normally so I've uploaded it to a public Google drive.
Link for that is here. https://drive.google.com/folderview?...Tg&usp=sharing

A:How to fix the error codes 80072EFE and 800736B3

The 80072EFE error is simply a bad internet connection - although that can be due either to physical problems or software interferences by malware, firewalls, etc.

The 800736B3 error is somewhat different.

I have lurked in this forum in the past - always finding answers. Thanks to all the experts contributing to this forum.

This time I joined so I could post, as I have been unable to find a solution to my problem.

I can install all updates except for SP1. I keep getting error 800736B3.

I ran the Update Troubleshooter, which claims to have repaired Win Update components - still same error.

I then successfully ran the hotfix KB947821. The same error occurs.

I ran sfc /scannow & no integrity violations were found.

I also tried again after a clean boot - same error.

I don't have a clue as to what to try now. Any suggestions?

I have followed the SFC, update readiness, and clean boot procedures listed in the thread I linked above. I believe I have a SIMILAR issue (not the same).

SFC found nothing, readiness tool ran and installed hotfix but did not fix issue. I also tried to install updates 1 at a time, to not avail, as well as the clean boot.

Based on my checksur log, I have the following:

Hi,

I'm stuck with 43 waiting updates and the update error 800736B3.
Tried now several approaches from the forum to get it resolved, but no resolution of the issue until now.

sfc /scannow reports no issues.

So I ran the upgrade pack to produce to cbs log.

Maybe one could give me a hint how or if it could be resolved somehow.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

This is my first post, and not all that clever with pcs, so apologies in advance if I've missed something out.

I have been getting this error code repeatedly when trying to install update KB2922229 for a couple of months now. Never had any problems before. Other updates were installing just fine, but I am now getting the same error code when trying to install update KB2871997. As both of these updates seem to be related to security, I am getting a bit concerned.

I have followed the steps in the Windows Update Posting Instructions, running SURT and an SFC scan. Logs attached.

Hope someone will be kind enough to help with this.

I have never seen such a CheckSUR summary before!

Have you tried installing the updates again since running the CheckSUR/SURT?

If not, please do so, and let us know what happens - First do a check for Updates, and see if the updates appear at all - they may not.

A:Windows 7 Updates Failing Error 800736B3

Hello Rob,

Lets run SURT to see if it gives an indication of a corruption:

Download and run System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)
Please go Here and download the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT). Save this file to your desktop
Go to your desktop and run KB947821
When the SURT finishes installing, Please continue.
SFC /SCANNOW

Click on the button. Inside the search box type in CMD
Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Export CBS folder
Click the Start button then click Computer.
Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
Find and double click on the Logs folder.
Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
Attach this to your next post please.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next please post please upload via Dropbox or ge.tt

Vista Update Error 800736B3 KB2803821 Really struggling to fix Windows Vista update errors. There are 9 consistently failing important updates (plus it looks like many others on the attachments named screen?). I have followed all the scan and registry fix instructions but it seems to be making no difference.
Error number 800736B3 is shown then KB2803821. Please could someone help with a fix, I have attached the relevant screen shots and codes I think. (Added screen 1 and 2 showing better detail of the failed updates)
Its driving me mad, always trying to update them!

Have never had Avast free home interfere with anything, but you can disable it to try the Updates by right clicking it's icon in system tray and "turn off real time protection"

I note that another recent thread on this error found by Googling also remains unresolved.

If you bought your Win7 retail, you are entitled to MS excellent tech support which will work the case through to satisfaction. Those Updates are standard and can wait a few days.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for anumber of reasons)

Hello,

I seem to be running into a popular issue with Windows Update- 800736B3. WU is not completely broken, as it's still able to install updates to Security Essentials and non-system software (IE11, Office). All system updates, however, are failing. I've ran SURT and SFC scan, but both didn't report any outright errors. The logs should be attached to this post in the .zip

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

I would really appreciate any insight as to what you think may be causing the issue, reformatting would really set me back since this computer has some industry specific CAD programs that are a pain to setup.

thanks again,Mark

For some reason I cant post an attachment "attach button doesn't respond, in fact none of them do", I'll add a reply to the thread to see if I can then.

Update: Sorry about the missing attachments, I moved them out of the folder and forgot to attach, there are a couple of older CBS Persist files if you need them.

Microsoft has no publicly available information for error code 800736B3.
Other threads in Answers forums very strongly suggest that error code 800736B3 is a symptom of system corruption/damage, most often caused by, e.g., one or more Norton realtime-protection processes, an infection, and/or injudicious use of "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; Advanced SystemCare; AVG PC TuneUp; PCTools Optimiser; CCleaner).

Have you carefully checked the incoming and outgoing server addresses? In addition to having that correctly entered, check for any typos-a comma (,) instead of a dot (.). Is everything spelled correctly? (I once had an Outlook Express issue and after an hour of looking over the settings saw my mistake, I'd entered ,net instead of .net)

If you are trying to use Outlook with your internet providers mail, go to your providers website. Look for help sections, faq's, etc. You most likely will find the correct settings there.

Firefox and other browser on my PC are showing signs of adware for example
Hovering over certain injected links shows ads
Flashy adverts have been injected into sites that wouldnt normally have them (I also have adblock)
Pop ups in the browser
Also in resource manager a program called "winsec" found in ProgramFiles (x86)/Security is constantly using the network.
After removing that folder in program files, the ads persist and (maybe unrelated) my disc drive just popped itself out.

Malwarebytes, combofix, microsoft defender could not find the malware. Any advice?

G' Day all!
I have a nasty problem here, a hijacker that keeps sending me to xysearch.biz. I have tried almost EVERY anti-spyware out there. I saw FLRMAN1 fix a similar problem in a previous post. I tried EXACTLY what he said there, but that seemed to fail as a few things he wanted me to tick, were not present in the scans. I have attached a copy of my HJT log and a log of my REG_LOOK log. Hopefully this helps!

Cheers...

In safemode, see if you can turn off "Reboot on system failure". When it does it again, write down or copy/paste what it says exactly
Open System Properties via Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System
[ System Properties may also be opened using the WinKey+Pause key combination ]
Select the Advanced tab and then click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section
In System Failure section, clear the checkbox next to Automatically Restart
Click OK and OK to exit

My wife noticed she had some malware popping up windows advertising for all kinds of things and asked me to take a look after mcafee failed to remove it after several scans. I rebooted the computer into safe mode with networking and downloaded malware bytes but whenever i try to install it, the main exe gets shut down then removed.

i decided to poke around a bit to see if i could find the culprit. In the registry i found a rundll for Kilesova.dll in the system32 folder that i supsected. I deleted this entry and rebooted into safe mode again. Checked and it was back. Also noticed when i started poking around mcafee is disabled.. maybe from safe mode.

running windows XP pro SP3

so mcafee and malware bytes have both bite the dust.. any suggestions?

I have some new information. Well, actually, it is the regular pattern of what I have been seeing. The full scan of Malwarebytes finished. Trojan.Agent in the C:\WINDOWS\System32\ernel32.dll file was found. I cleaned it and rebooted. I am running another Malwarebytes full scan. If the pattern continues, Trojan.DNSChanger will be found in this scan.

Hello I've been infected lately with some trojan that I have problems with cleaning so I thought trojan resistant Help with I'd check Help with resistant trojan with you guys before the final and tiresome step of formatting and reinstalling Windows It has various names including Small CNC Trojan Win Small cmh Win Bamital DV and others One of the files that is surely infected and is probably an important part of the trojan is zx Help with resistant trojan dll which sits in my system folder The only effect that I recognized is the fact Help with resistant trojan that many times when I click on a link the browser Chrome directs me to either an ads site that has nothing to do with the link I clicked or some virus-swarming site Sometimes Chrome knows to prevent itself from going on and sometimes not If I go back and try a few more times to click on the link it eventually does continue to the wanted site Other than this redirection issue I don't really experience any other trouble Maybe a little slower internet speed but I'm not sure if I'm not just quot seeing things quot The problem is that I first tried Kaspersky which recognized the virus and deleted this zx dll on restart But on this same restart my pc went into a blue screen and then restarted so I had to use the Windows recovery thing that simply did a System Restore to the time before the installation of Kaspersky which also brought back the zx dll and everything returned to normal plus virus The same exact thing happened with NOD So maybe the trojan hooked itself so well that I won't be able to remove it without the blue screen problem and not being able to get into Windows Maybe I have to format But if anyone has encountered anything similar I'd love to try something else Thanks a lot P S I attached all of the different names this virus has when I checked the dll with VirusTotal

Hello MrCrumbs and Welcome to TSF.

My name is JonTom
Malware Logs can sometimes take a lot of time to research and interpret.
Please be patient while I try to assist with your problem. If at any time you do not understand what is required, please ask for further explanation.
Please note that there is no "Quick Fix" to modern malware infections and we may need to use several different approaches to get your system clean.
Read every reply you receive carefully and thoroughly before carrying out the instructions. You may also find it helpful to print out the instructions you receive, as in some instances you may have to disconnect your computer from the Internet.
PLEASE NOTE: If you do not reply after 3 days your thread will be closed.

Quote:

I had to use the Windows 7 recovery thing that simply did a System Restore to the time before the installation of Kaspersky, which also brought back the zx.dll and everything returned to normal (plus virus).

Please see if you are you able to perform a system restore as you did before to get the machine back to a bootable state.

If the restore is successful, do not allow your resident security to delete anything, then run the following scans:

Please perform the following scan

Please download DDS from here and save it to your desktop.
Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
Right click on the DDS icon and select "Run as Administrator" to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run).
When done, DDS.txt will open.
After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
Save both reports to your desktop.
Please post the contents of the DDS.txt and Attach.txt logs in your next reply.

Please scan your system with GMER

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here.Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
Right click on GMER.exe and select "Run as Administrator" to run the program. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.
In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in your reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please post the DDS logs and the GMER log in your next reply. If you encounter any difficulties just let me know.

Hello all, I am posting for my father-in-law who is having difficulty with these windows updates.

The error code is 800736B3.

I downloaded and ran SURT a few times, each time it reported success however the error is still active and there are 10 updates pending on windows update.

i also scanned several times sfc /scannow and nothing exciting came up.

Uploading my CBS.zip continues to time out so here is a link to google drive with the file:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7V...it?usp=sharing

Thanks in advance for your help.

Microsoft have now announced much more about their plans for Windows running on ARM architecture including the somewhat curious decision to support the full Windows desktop even though almost nothing can run on it But the fact that the desktop exists at all and this means that it might be possible to install software that doesn t come directly from the new Windows 8 Malware ARM Windows Will Resistant? be on Store leaves an interesting malware question mark over the platform So far Windows on ARM is the most malware resistant operating system on the planet I ve always wanted to say that but this time it s actually true icon smile Will Windows on ARM be Malware Resistant No malware at all exists that can infect this platform as nobody s been able to write anything for it yet Thus Windows on ARM for the primary reason that it will be an embedded OS will go on to be the most secure version of the operating system ever This won t stop some forms of malware that try to trick users into giving up sensitive details especially in the desktop version of Internet Explorer that will still support plug-ins but ONLY ARM-encoded plug-ins I might add but nothing will be able to attack the operating system directly This will make Windows on ARM just like iOS QNX or WebOS in being malware resistant I m leaving Android out of this as Google don t monitor Will Windows 8 on ARM be Malware Resistant? apps as they re submitted and Will Windows 8 on ARM be Malware Resistant? thus the platform does have a malware problem Will Windows on ARM be Malware Resistant

Need some help.
I need to print some fliers and hang them outside. Tried it with HP printer but, every time it rains, usually next morning whole page gets messed up becomes unreadable.

Would you guys know what kind of printer has water-resistant ink cartridge?
Otherwise if I run printout under water it still will be readable. Maybe laser printers or DeskJet? Cartridge on l
Lexmark1020 says waterproof but I don’t know what they mean by that.

I Thank you ahead. Any info is appreciated

A:Water-resistant ink printer. Need some help

I use a little automotive clear coat paint sprayed lightly on my photogragh printings to make them water resistant, it works great. Just hold at arms length, and spray in 1/2 second burst untill a little coats the paper.

If it rains though, your better off buying a laminator.

The black lexmark ink is waterproof after it dries, but not the color.

I went through the process on this website last night and then rebooted only to still have Antimalware Doctor running. I tried again this morning, and I can't run ANYTHING. I tried a different solution posted on this website, but the problem is, every solution requires me to run some sort of file, and it won't let me do anything. I get the message:

"Application cannot be executed. The file **** is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?"

I ran rkill last night, but can't do it now, no matter what it's called. I can click forever, and can't make it go. I can't access my task manager, or the internet. I feel completely paralyzed. Help!

I have tried in vain, all the methods googling suggested, for removing the lock image from the icons for certain batch files in Win7-Ultimate-32bit. There are very few of these where the lock persists, despite changing 'forceguest' in the
registry. For these 'locked' files, their context menu lacks the 'share with' option. Is there a way of 'unlocking' these few 'select' files ?

A:Unlocking 'resistant' files

I am not sure what you are referring to as I have never seen a lock icon on any batch file or program I have ever used.

Ugh, I somehow downloaded some adware which is resistant to every program i attempt to uninstall it with. I am running windows 7 professional.

Malwarebytes misses it, Roguekiller misses it, Hitman pro misses it.

Every time i start up my computer, some background ads popup ranging from car commercials to detergents, with no way of stopping them. I have tried MSconfig, and see nothing out of the ordinary. I opened up the task manager and see a program called Nagy.exe with the description of "Quick" which led me to nothing particularly helpful on the web.

I am getting pretty tired of this and have already installed a fresh new copy of windows on another drive, but id like to not waste my time and just fix this current problem.

I am seriously close to just dismantling this drive

I have tried in vain, all the methods googling suggested, for removing the lock image from the icons for certain batch files in Win7-Ultimate-32bit. There are very few of these where the lock persists, despite changing 'forceguest' in the registry. For these 'locked' files, their context menu lacks the 'share with' option. Is there a way of 'unlocking' these few 'select' files ?

A:Unlocking 'resistant' files

Have you tried the free software called Unlocker? It seems to have a pretty good success rate. The author of this software also lists several similar programs after his Step 3.

Hi! Since the beginning of may (May 3rd) every update has failed and they've been stacking up to the point where there's now 25 updates I've missed.

I've googled the issue and tried running "Fixit" and CheckSUR but nothing has helped.
I'm now desperate and annoyed because of all this. That's why I'm coming to you on this forum. You seem to have a lot of knowledge on these topics.

Since I'm new to this, I don't really know which files and logs to attach so if someone explained it to me I'll be able to post them ASAP

Nothing that we don't know intuitively and or through first hand experience but here are some hard numbers on the subject Complete article on link Quote Windows more malware-resistant than XP Vista By Adrian Kingsley-Hughes May am PDT If you re a Windows user that s holding onto your Vista or XP than XP/Vista more 7 Windows malware-resistant installation then this recent security report from Microsoft might make you think about switching to Windows The report goes on for nearly ninety pages but I think that this chart of quarterly infection rates for says Windows 7 more malware-resistant than XP/Vista it all really This data has been normalized so that it represents infections per thousand systems in other words the popularity of XP doesn t skew the results towards XP Windows XP SP -bit has an infection rate of per thousand systems while Windows Vista SP -bit has half this infection rate per thousand Windows -bit nearly halves this again to per thousand while Windows -bit managed to get the infection rate per thousand down to Why is -bit Windows more secure Microsoft offers up two possible suggestions That -bit users are more savvy than -bit users more true in than it is in Kernel Patch Protection helps to prevent unauthorized modifications hobbling a lot fo malware There are other interesting nuggets in the report Take this chart of exploit attempts showing how hackers have leapt on Java

Yep, there is some truth to this. Most of the Virus issues I get at work are from people using Windows XP.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Try CCleaner. It has an uninstall feature that is better than Control Panel and even malware shows up and can usually be uninstalled...

A:UNKNOWN ROOTKIT -- ROOTREPEAL RESISTANT

Hi, pjvex86 Welcome.Download This file. Note its name and save it to your root folder, such as C:\.Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security program drivers will not conflict with this file.Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled.Double-click on the downloaded file to start the program. (If running Vista, right click on it and select "Run as an Administrator")Allow the driver to load if asked. You may be prompted to scan immediately if it detects rootkit activity. If you are prompted to scan your system click "Yes" to begin the scan.If not prompted, click the "Rootkit/Malware" tab.On the right-side, all items to be scanned should be checked by default except for "Show All". Leave that box unchecked.Select all drives that are connected to your system to be scanned.Click the Scan button to begin. (Please be patient as it can take some time to complete)When the scan is finished, click Save to save the scan results to your Desktop.Save the file as Results.log and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.Exit the program and re-enable all active protection when done.

Every time I search in Google or other search engines (ie Yahoo) in Internet Explorer the regular websites I would expect to come up do not, and various stores selling things come up after a slight delay. For example, searching for "Bank of America" leads me to couponmountain and local.com.

I tried the steps in your "Read this before posting for malware help." However, the dds.scr file seems to run (the black screen with instructions comes up then disappears about 30 seconds later), but no dds.txt file ever appears. Nor does a window asking for an Optional Scan appear.

The GMER Rootscanner kit stalled in its download at 71%.

What else can I do???

I used the MS XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility.
There were 3 decoders listed.
One was an old Elecard mpg-2 decoder (mcm2vd.ax)
Another was a k-lite decoder.
I'm not sure was the 3rd was.

I removed the Elecard decoder.
I uninstalled K-Lite.

After that, all 3 decoders were gone when I ran the MS utility.
AND, WMP-11 now plays DVDs again.

A:Error C00D1163 - solution

It sounds like a typical codec conflict.
Im glad to see that you have made it work.

Somewhere you still have a Mpeg2 codec in your system.
XP cant paly DVDs by itself and needs one.

Run a System File Check in a elevated command.
Run a System Restore to an earlier date.

I recently experienced the 2203 error when trying to run, install, or uninstall a few programs.
The issue was caused by me removing my ODD and reinserting it. I moved my temp file to my 2ndary HDD "D:" drive for programs to access and store temp data. When I removed the ODD and resinserted windows assigned the "D:" letter path to the ODD so programs were not able to access the temp folder. I went into disk management and changed the letters back to how they were and the problem was resolved. I realized the problem when i typed %temp% in the program search and it said that it could not find D:Temp.

Hopefully this helps others that are in the same situation.

Why was this moved to Network Sharing? This has nothing to do with Network Sharing, other than it first occured during a networking session... I'm not sharing anything right now, and I'm having problems changing files on "this" computer from "this" computer. There's no networking involved.

I had this problem and searched for solutions. Most sites start going through Hijack this and a lot of unrelated issues. Fortunately, i came across someone who actually knew the cause. Solution came from ZoneAlarm website.

Solution at this link actually worked!!
http://forums.zonelabs.com/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=Antivirus&message.id=10862

The problem evidently has some to do with a web page being used as part of the wallpaper. As soon as I unchecked the "Desktop Uninstall" web page, the problem was gone.

One note: The solution says to go to the desktop and right-click and select properties. You may not be able to do that successfully since the desktop is taken over by the problem web page. Instead, go through Control Panel, Display, which will get you to the same place.

A:Error #1752 - Solution

You can disable the wallpaper if you want but all the infected files are still there. We recommend deleting them instead of just hiding the background and leaving the rest of the spyware in place.

This is really angering me now. From Googling I can see that Windows has had this problem for years, why have MS not fixed it?!

Can anyone, please make any new suggestions for how to avoid the "1335 - Data1.cab is corrupt" during installations on Vista.

Suggestions I've found and tried so far:
Clean the CD/DVD (the error also happens when installing from ISOs via virtual drives, so that definitely isn't the problem)
Restart the computer
Reinstall windows
Copy the files to your HDD and install from there
Change router settings

This is so frustrating. I've got Crysis to install and Steam games are fine but nothing else!

Thanks.
