Preferred Solution: Very high CPU usage, causing very high laptop CPU temps (90c idle)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. First off, having utorrent effectively craps you out on this forum since it has a bad rep. Suggest you remove it and come back, start a new thread. That said, if you're familiar with Task Manager, check the CPU percentage on the processes tab (click CPU column to sort). This may help pinpoint which app(s) are whack.

I recently built an HTPC for use on our TV for watching movies, surfing, light gaming, etc. The System configuration is as follows:

CPU: Haswell i5-4590s (65w) using stock cooler
MB: ASRock B85M-ITX
Memory: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws (2x4GB) DDR 3 1600
Vid card: EVGA GTX-950
Case: Cooler Master Elite 130
Using CPUID HW Monitor I noticed that this lower-power CPU was running at about 60C at idle ... but at idle the CPU is at 25%. Other than a mis-aligned heat sink I'm having a hard time figuring out 1) Why the CPU is idling so high and 2) why the idle temps are so high (60C or more).

Any advice to investigating this? Thanks ...

A:New MITX Build ... can't explain CPU usage and high idle temps. Your take?

svchost.exe is using 25% of your CPU, so it's not idle.

I recently installed an evga nvidia 8600gt video card. Vista 32 bit starts up fine but my idle cpu usage sits at 50%, and I can't shut down or restart properly and the system will hand after 30 minutes or so. I just end up having to hold in the power button. I have the latest drivers and it's still doing the same thing. When I pull the 8600gt out and put in my old 7300gs, cpu usage at idle is at 0% and vista shuts down and restarts fine. Vista runs fine otherwise and I can play games without a problem. Any suggestions before I rma the video card?

A:8600gt causing high cpu idle usage

I "RMA'd" my 8600 gt. Not because of the idle problem, but because it dawned on me that for $100 more I could own the 8800 GTS 320mb. It not only idles well but it's about 3 times better than the 8600.

I noticed a couple weeks ago my laptop's cpu fan had been cranking even when usage is when High idle CPU laptop I was only surfing the internet or typing something up in Microsoft word I've been monitoring the CPU usage over those last few weeks and when the computer is idle the cpu usage hovers anywhere between - with no programs open I started looking around the internet for solutions I did a full computer scan with Norton Antivirus which caught a few small bugs Then restarted the computer and now it runs around - when idle I downloaded Process Explorer to show more of what was bogging down the cpu At the top of the list was quot System Idle Process quot in the cpu column reads between - High CPU usage when laptop is idle Also AppleMobileDeviceService exe in the cpu column is between - Everything else was close enough to that it wouldn't make a difference High CPU usage when laptop is idle I'm not sure what this means or how I should go about fixing it Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:High CPU usage when laptop is idle

Here is an Apple article I found about AppleMobileDeviceService.exe high CPU use.
AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is hogging up to %50 of CPU

Looks like a lot of people have this issue, and a lot of theories on how to solve it...

The fan in my laptop has been running fast and non-stop as of recently. Even when it's idle. I had it dust-cleaned about 2 weeks ago but, if anything, it's only gotten worse since then.

The idle temps of the CPU, GPU and HDD are all around 50?C (the GPU temp rises quickly into around 70?C if I e.g. open a semi-graphic intensive website) which seems rather high to me, but I thought someone here might be more knowledgeable in that area.

So, I guess my question is: Is it normal for a 2 year old laptop (that has been recently cleaned) to have idle temps at around 50?C with the fan running constantly on almost full power?

See attached image for more info

A:High idle temps

Well they do make laptop cooler pads for a reason.
I did want to ask if the cpu and gpu temperature are always the same, because that just doesn't seem right?

Have you opened your task manager and checked that there isn't a process in the background that is eating up a lot of cpu time? Even for a laptop that seems a tad warm... not seriously, but enough to be looking for a reason.

Edit: you may also choose to look into one of these.

Hi,

It happened twice. My CPU idle temps increased A LOT after windows updates (Ultimate 64). And not just after rebooting, but all day long. Just in idle. When I start any work on the laptop, it drops to normal levels. Scary, cause I make pauses often and let it shutdown the screen and sleep. What a surprised when I return to work and check it reached 70?C when it was supposed to be cooler than before, obviously. Once I touch the mouse and resume working, it drops fastly and everything seems to be normal. WTF? And it?s happening only after updates, and only on Ultimate, because when I had Home Premium it never occured.
Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry for bad english.

A:High idle CPU temps after last updates

Well you didn't do the same updates on the HP as you just did on Ultimate.

In any event maybe one of the updates is running something when the system is idle and or it has fooled with the SpeedStep function and or fan controls so they don't turn on when idle. Once you start using the system the fans turn on and cool the system down.

Uninstall the latest updates and see if that fixes it.
If it does then do one update at a time until you find the one that is causing this problem.

Hi all
I've got 2 HD5870's in crossfire that have been running fine for about 8 months but now the fans are running very fast after boot. AMD Catalyst is reporting temps of 90-92 degrees and fan speeds of 60% when I have no applications running. I've checked Task Manager and nothing seems out of the norm ( at least checking CPU/RAM usage, that doesn't reflect on GPU usage). I've run a full AVG scan which shows no naughties so any idea's or comments from previous experiences would be appreciated

A:GPU registering high temps at idle

I'd do a visual inspection of the cards, look for dust and dirt on the fans and cooling systems.
If needed use compressed air to remove dust. Possibly outside your house.

My computer used to run great! Everything was fine and Core/GPU temps were low. About last week is when this started happening. Cores were at 38-45 idle, now there super high.

Specs
Gigabyte AM2+ Motherboard (Model #: GA-MA78GPM-DS2H)
AMD Phenom II X4 925
Sapphire ATI HD 5770
4GB DDR2 RAM
hec X-Power Pro 650W

Temps
Cores: 59 degrees (Current, Hardware Monitor+Firefox open)
GPU: 41 degrees

Problem
Can't diagnose a problem! Don't know how or were to find out whats going on. I'm leaning towards getting a new heatsync/fan to lower cpu temps and see if that works but I dont got the money atm. I lag in most games after a while of playing. The stutter gets worse and worse the longer I play.
If you need any other information, please ask. Thanks!

A:High CPU temps. Causing lag in games? Help!

If your current cooling solution was working not that long ago, instead of replacing it I would try applying new thermal grease. Any chance it got knocked around or anything maybe that could of caused the cpu to not make good contact...a long shot but.

Hi.

In this order,
If you had made any changes\overclocking set back everything back to default settings.

Remove RivaTuner/EVGA Precision/MSI Afterburner (known issues w/Win7) from your system.

RivaTuner

Download and install Driver Sweeper

Download the most recent software\driver for your NVIDIA

Uninstall nvidia software\driver,restart in safe mode, run driver sweeper, choose only NVIDIA-Display and clean, restart in normal mode.

Install the new ati software\driver,restart.

Update DirectX

Read carefully this tutorial and run NVIDIA/AMD Video Card - Test with OCCT post here the results.
Run RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Leave it to run overnight if possible.

Finish and post back.

A:High CPU usage & higher temps after windows updates: How long?

Okay, this is REALLY strange. I individually uninstalled all updates from today and nothing seemed to matter. Okay, I uninstalled a patch for a steam game that I downloaded yesterday. No difference. Then, I turned off the "Drives Meter" gadget for my desktop, and voila. CPU back to 0-2%. Restarted to make sure it wasn't a fluke, and sure enough still low CPU. What the heck? Until today, this was never a problem. I really liked that Drives Meter. Since this is Windows and not Linux (can't use Conky), anyone have any other suggestions. I'll mark this solved right away if anyone says they have some idea of why this happened today; also, if no one cares, I'll mark it in a bit.

Heya,
I having issues with my computer, its a HP pavillion a6300f,
Running an intel E2180 dual core, 2 gigs of ram and os vista 32 home premium.
I have issues with what process explorer describes as being a hardware interrupt, it uses between 25-99% of one of the cores capability and seems to use approximately 500-700mb of ram.
i have tried as much as i can muster.
Does anyone have any ideas that could save me a reinstall of my o/s.
i have called HP support but they seem more intent on, brushing me off, half assed guidance, or finding ways out of honouring my warranty than giving sound advice.

I am sad to say that when these type of issues come up, HP, nor MS would be able to find a solution for you.

Put it down to experience and reinstall Vista. And straight after Vista is installed and running good, then do a backup image of Vista using something like Acronis TrueImage. In this way, if anything like this happens again in the future, you simply restore the Vista image and in 10 minutes you are running good again.

First....I see you are using MSI afterburner, turn that off and see what happens. Next...I see you have and AMD 6900 series GPU and you're running the Crimson driver package for it (is that the BETA driver)....not possible as those 4xxx, 5xxx and 6xxx series GPU have been labeled as Legacy cards and no further support is available and the last known driver for them is the 15.7.1 package. That might be your issue right there.

I'd start off with turning off AfterBurner and then installing the correct GPU driver and then check your results.

Hi guys,
When I open Windows Task Manager the numbers in CPU never seem to add up to the 50% that it says it's being using, so I'm not sure what process is hogging it. Once I open Chrome, it can go up to 80-90%.
Also when I'm in chrome and I enter an url it seems to take longer than usual and even not going to the address just staying in the blank page.

I got told that I should include screenshots from both task manager and process explorer.

PS: I'm a new user but I'm a bit tech savy and my most fear is that it is the beginning of hard disk failure.

Hello FrekkonYour Kaspersky is running very high. Uninstall and re install it. Have your product key handy. Some errors might occur when removing Kaspersky Lab products via the Start Menu or Control Panel. As a result the application may not remove correctly or remnants of the application may remain in the system. To fully remove the installed Kaspersky Lab product, use the Kavremover utility. Note that the utility deletes all activation data and you will need to activate your product after reinstalling.

A:CPU usage high at idle

Don't know what the logged events mean, but I think you may have a scheduled task that is set up to run when the computer is idle. If you can find that task you may be able to solve it. I don't know a way to find tasks that run when idle except to open every task and check its conditions and that's too difficult. But if you open a command prompt (cmd.exe) and run this you'll get a list of all running tasks:

schtasks /query | find "Running"

But chances are that when you run it after the computer is in idle, the task will stop. Put the code below in a text file and save it as .bat When you run it it will list all running tasks every 30 seconds, and it will include a time stamp too.

Code:
@ECHO OFF
:LOOP
TIME /T
schtasks /query | find "Running"
TIMEOUT /T 30
GOTO LOOP
And try Process Explorer, also from Sysinternals, instead of Task Manager. It's much better!

Hi guys! I'm Pig and I'm new!

I got my pc 3 years ago. It's a windows xp sp3. Three days ago I reformatted my computer because of some silly driver glitch. (I couldn't seem to finish installation of my printer's driver and my wireless internet card driver for some reason)

Now with all updated drivers and such, usually my cpu usage ranges between 3% to 9 %. But it's jumping between 27% to 55% with no running program. I thought it was simply dust so I cleared them completely off, no dice.

My system is:
Windows XP sp3 Professional
AMD Athlon Processor LE 1640
2.59Ghz, 3.25 GB of ram (which I swore I though I threw 4gb of ram in my computer)

I dun know much about computers aside from playing games and Microsoft Word/Mozilla for schoolwork. Please tell me what other info is needed to solve this annoying problem. Thanks so much! Onegaishimasu!

A:High RAM usage while idle

You might also want to post a screenshot of your start ups.

Cortana seems to be using a lot of memory for just being idle. If this is not being used, perhaps you might want to disable that. Your CPU also seems high for just being idle. I don't know if this 'jumped' while you took the screen image, but to me it appears that in these three images, your CPU load ranged between 15 - 36%, which seems high for your processor during basically idle time. You might want to boot into SafeMode and see what things look like. See HERE.

I would think you should see a noticeable drop in resource usage while in SafeMode. If that is the case, then it might be some software conflict.

You might have to disable one start up at a time, then test your system. If no change, go back and enable it, then disable the next one in line.

You might also be experiencing some memory leak some place, that might be the cause. However, you would have to identify which program or application. If you recently installed something just before the problem began, that might be a place to begin.

There is something that might help, at least until you get this sorted out. There's a free program called CleanMem.

I have used it for years, and I do have it on my Win-10 machine as well, although it does not indicate that it's compatible with win-10 (yet).

It will force the release of unused memory every 'X' amount of time. It's defaulted to every 15 minutes, but I have mine set for every five minutes. When memory was an issue for me, I set it for every three minutes, but that was with XP and only 3GB of RAM- so I needed it.

I have also brought up the task-manger and watched when cleanmem kicked in. You can see a steep drop in memory within a second.

Question : Do you oftely use software or games that are memory intensive? If so, Windows preloads them in memory so they load faster. That's the only explanation I have. The others will probably have more ideas though.

A:cpu usage high at idle

Easiest way to ID the culprit is to start the taskmanager and look down the list of services, a lot of open office progs seem to do this and other GNU licensed stuff, seems not to be as good as proclaimed, but taskmanager should soon tell you the culprit.

Hey guys, just installed a new Samsung 850 EVO SSD Dual Booting with Linux. Used what I believe is called a Retail Version of Windows 7 to avoid all the junk that was included with the Toshiba Disks. Seems recently Windows 7 is running at 50+% CPU and 30+% at Idle right after boot, is this normal for an SSD? And, I left it like this for like an hour just to see if it would calm down.

Right now running 82% CPU and 51% Memory with only Three Tabs open and nothing else...using Chrome. One my Yahoo Mail, Youtube music, This site and my Bookmarks Tab. I've looked around at what is running but nothing seems abnormal, any suggestions?

Hi,
This is windows updates time
Micro... has been playing cat and mouse on these download links so if they do not exist yet you might have to use the catalog to get them if the links don't work,
When manually installing updates you need to switch your update settings to Never check for updates and restart the machine first.

Make sure KB3020369 is installed
Win-7 32 bit
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=46827
Win-7 64 bit
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=46817

Then manually install KB3172605
Win-7 32 bit,
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=53335
Win-7 64 bit,
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=53332

After switch your windows update settings back to what you had prior and manually check for updates and the rest should show up shortly.

You must use Internet explorer to download from the catalog
Microsoft Update Catalog
You also have to right click ie and use run as administrator don't ask me why but the 2 recommended browser add-ons won't install unless you do,

Hello, your log was movedfrom the XP to this forum because of safety considerations. HijackThis logs may only be posted in this forum and due to time constraints, we can only tell you whether or not your log appears free of infection or not--other troubleshooting can be done without a HijackThis log.Your log looks clean. It doesn't look like a malware issue, rather a possible problem with a Windows update and possibly exacerbated by the system being an upgrade from 98 and old. I suggest you repost your questions in the XP forum and this time don't post the HijackThis log. However, it would be a good idea to post a link to this log as some might find the HJT information useful. This topic is now closed.

Hello,

I know it sounds a little bit strange, but:

When I open Task manager ->show process from all users, I notice that System Idle is uses about 95% of CPU.
But the overall cpu usage is lower than 20-30%. How is that possible? (windows 7)

Also, I have 2 os installed on the same computer. 7 and XP.
Windows XP 50%CPU load.-> Disable automatic updates=> Low CPU usage.
If I disable auto updating feature in Windows 7 too, and update it "on demand" weekly would that solve the issue?

Thank you in advance.

A:High System Idle CPU, but overall, low cpu usage

the easiest way to remove any resource hogs is to:
click start;
type run;
in run type msconfig;
hit enter;
click the startup tab;
untick everything non essential;
personally I untick everything (youd want to keep your virus scanner though)

A:High memory Usage @ Idle

I don't see this usage as either unusual or abnormal.

Memory usage is always under the control of the system memory manager, the primary goal being to maximize overall system performance. It usually works very well. The system will always try to find some use for as much memory as possible, even if it is only of trivial use. Within reasonable limits the more memory you have, the more it will use. This memory usage is of course higher than necessary, and that is a good thing. The memory manager is using the large amount of memory available to improve performance. But if a large application needs more memory this usage will automatically be trimmed back, drastically if necessary. With 12 GB RAM that isn't likely to happen very often.

Don't be concerned over the low value for "Free" memory that may occasionally show. This number is of little importance and is often misunderstood. The value of importance is "Available" and that is very high. And that is good.

Don't be concerned that adding up the memory usage in the process list doesn't add up to total usage. It was never intended that it would. The default configuration doesn't show all process usage and there are major users of memory that are not processes, not all of which are shown in Task Manager.

Hello I've had this problem for a while After I stop using my computer at the th minute mark of being idle something sets off I always notice it when I work next to usage disk High and cpu idle it because the vents rev up it becomes loud which means more wear and tear etc So first things first open up the task manager and High idle disk and cpu usage process explorer to see what's going on However as soon as I High idle disk and cpu usage move my mouse or give any input really everything calms back down to or and I can't really see what's driving it I still managed to snap this screenshot though As you can see from it BitDefender seems to be the culprit But I don't understand why because even when I turn idle High idle disk and cpu usage scan and auto-update off the problem is still here So it might not be BitDefender after all I've also thought of Windows indexing and defragmenting services which were set to run at idle Nothing is solved after switching both to off I'd like to know how can I find out what process exactly is causing the CPU to rise that is high disk usage Thanks for any help

A:High idle disk and cpu usage

Just sounds like normal windows maintenance to me, mine starts off automatically after being idle for a few mns, they should settle down after a while, but as soon as you use the machine windows pauses the process

Event viewer might also give an idea of what it is doing

A way to see what process is doing it
Disable screen saver if it comes on after a few minutes
open up task manager on the process tab sorted by cpu

sit and watch it for 4 mins and you should see which process is running

Not supposed to run so high that svchost. Perhaps its a virus that you missed. Malwarebytes download and scan and report back soldier!

Hi guys! Just to fill you all in, i had some issues with my pc so i eventually formatted it completely, using a disc to freshly install the OS. Now after many days of messing around trying to figure out what is going on I see that with steam open(not downloading) and 4 chrome tabs, my memory is 5.5gb of 7.1gb but i have 8gm DDR3 Ram. I've noticed whileplaying some games that it is not much higher but applications like chrome and windows start bar are really slow or will freeze too. could this be related?
If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to help. I'm desperate!

A:System Idle Process High CPU Usage

Hello L_The_Legend & welcome to TSF

Have you scanned your computer for viruses lately?

Also, tap away at F10 as you start the PC to enter the BIOS menu. Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive and Memory - run both test and post back with the results. Is the system overheating?

Hi All,

Im new to this forum but wondering if anyone can help, im having a bit of an issue with a fluctuating CPU usage. Seems quite loud as if the fan is over working, side panel is off and ventilation is good.

Im not really sure where to start i have done virus scans in safe mode also panda cloud to no avail,

I have attached screen shots of cpu/process tab.

If someone can point me in the right direction to diagnosing this issue that would be great.

Note: the system does not blue screen or switch off it just becomes extremely noisy.

Thanks

Dan

A:High CPU usage and (sounds like pc overworking) when idle

Have you perhaps updated chrome? If you kill chrome does the system settle down?
If so instead of the standard google chrome you might try using a chromium snapshot.
Use the zip package, not the mini-installer. Unzip the exe into a separate folder. I used folders under C:\Utils for my stand-alone no-install-needed programs. Always make a copy of your profile folder and the currently used chromium folder so you can back off if you get a snapshot that doesn't play nicely with the system.

The snapshots are often as stable or more stable than chrome releases. Try a few and see if you get one that acts more reasonably. Also there's a command line switch to set the maximum number of simultaneous chrome.exe processes. I don't recall it at the moment. But searching "chromium command line switches" or similar terms should bring up a page of them.

Hi guys, long time lurker / first time poster. Win 7 / Quad Core Xeon / 10gb Ram / enough free space on windows HDD / page file on seperate HDD the last few days my machine has really slowed down. i had attribuetd it to a virus but not anymoer as i haev ran many AV tools including a bootable Kaspersky version - all returned that the machine is clean. Problem: Machine is slow / stalling a lot machine runs very high CPU (100% a lot of the time) and even on idle it can stay cloking about 30-40% the only thing i can think of is that windows update rolled out a driver update for my Nvidia Quado NVS 440 card, which failed. the problems seem to have started since then any advice on how i might discover the problem would be greatly appreiacited. i just dont know where to start.

Hi I just bought my brand new laptop and have loaded Vista Ultimate bit onto it for about days I noticed something unusual about Vista's CPU usage while idle in the task manager as well as the Resource monitor I have attached four pictures to show my problem Notice that my 32: idle CPU high usage Vista when Ultimate CPU usage is always at about - on both of my cores However the average CPU usage per process shows that it should actually occupy about to at most by adding up all the CPU usage for the processes What is really odd to me is that my system idle process CPU usage does not equal Although at - usage I do not notice any major performance impacts as both cores are not loaded to the max However I do notice Vista chewing up more battery than needed when I have Vista Ultimate 32: high CPU usage when idle my laptop running off batteries Because the max frequency for the processor would always need to be raised to around even when idle instead of say - I have searched online for various problems relating to high CPU usage and most of the responses are about tracing down which process is the culprit Well this is where I'm stumped because it all does not add up According to the process view everything is normal but my system resources are still get constantly chewed up by something invisible it seems Any help suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point

You want system idle process to be high. That means the processor is looking for work. 99 is better than 60. What is that 22% process--it is running at 0% on my PC.

as subject states l get random high cpu usage while idle... the moment l move the mouse and start using the system things seem to go back to normal.. the only reason its noticeable is because my temps rise between 5 and 10C higher...

originally l thought it was down to indexing however since its disabled now it cant be the issue.. however one thing l have noticed is the issue only tends to appear after a reboot when windows update has been run and l install new updates as lm unable to check to see what process is causing it... reason being that leaving my system idle with the performance monitor running seems to not constitute as idle hence lm unable to determine the problem process so l can only assume its down to windows update since it only generally happens one reboot after installing updates (after a couple of reboots, touch wood things seem to be ok)

A:High cpu usage only while idle [generally after windows updates]

There is CPU usage because your computer is not idle.
It is doing work while you are not using the computer.

...Why is that a problem? Do you want it to do it while you are working or playing a game?

I've posted a thread regarding this a month ago here. I had scanned my PC with Malware bytes and turns out I had 4 malwares. Rebooted it and figured it was the end of it. The thing is this happens occasionally when I'm normally browsing Chrome, the memory usage goes up to 3,89GB out of 4GB out of nowhere. I go to the task manager/resource monitor and I can't find anything relevant I wouldn't normally have. Sure I have about 70 tasks but they're all small and shouldn't be causing trouble. Today it happened while I was installing Sniper Elite v2 - lengthy installation, it was using my whole RAM understandably, yet after it was finished I'm still left with about 80% of memory usage? Please help.

I have a fresh image of a windows 7 enterprise machine. Its running slow enough that the clock in the system tray starts to lag behind. The clock in the bios is correct though.

In windows task manager the CPU usage jumps 21% to 69% without any notice. There are frequent lockups and stutters as well.

Its running an Intel COre 2 Duo E8400 @3.00 GHz and 4 gigs of ram as well.

It is currently patched with all of the microsoft updates. The only virus protection on it is SCEP.

Ive refreshed GPO, Ive tried uninstalling un-needed software (uninstalling more now) but so far thats not helping. Any suggestions?

Lately, I've been getting alerts about high cpu usage. Checking Process Explorer, I see that spoolsv.exe is using about 49-50% and Systems Idle is using 45-50. I have no idea why this is happening. Only recent change has been the swapping out of a HP Photosmart printer for a Lexmark Pro 915 printer.

A:High CPU usage from spoolsv.exe and Systems Idle Process?

System Idle Process is not using anything, shows % of idle time, higher number = less processor use. At least 1 less thing to worry about.

The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible.Thank you for understanding.Regards,The weatherman

Hello, I was wondering if anyone else has this problem.. When I have winamp open and running it's like 40-50% cpu usage.. The second I turn it off, it's 0%.. I've reinstalled the program a couple times with different options and it's always the same.

I know it's not my puter : 2600 athlon xp (2.1ghz), SB Live!, gig ddr, 60 gig hd, are among the main specs.

Any suggestions (other than don't use winamp heh). Thanks.

I am not shore if this is wright place for this thread, I apologise if it is not. My CPU usage is mostly normal (3-10%), but sometimes it goes up to 80-93%, it last for 10-15 minutes and than go back to normal work. I checked computer for viruses with AVG 2012, Emsisoft Anti-malware, and Mbam( Malwarebytesantimalware), and there is no viruses found. I also checked it with Spybot-Search and destroy and found nothing. I use wise registry and disk cleaner and smart defrag every 20 day. Every time when my CPU usage is above normal Process Explorer show there is multiple wermgr.exe runing - 5 to above 20. When I look up properties of wermgr.exe I get:
parrent:
<Non-existent Process>(6952)
or
<Non-existent Process>(8124)

User:
<access denied>

path

when I try to kill process it says acces denied

I atched two Process explorer screen shots. What to do?

A:wermgr.exe causing high cpu usage

Welcome to Seven Forums mikt. wermgr.exe is associated with the Error Reporting Process. It's possible you have multiple errors queued for sending to Microsoft.

Try this:

Start> In search box type Action center> Enter> Click on the arrow next to Maintenance to expand> Under Check for solutions to problem reports, click on Settings> Click on Change report settings for all users> Check the radio button next to Each time a problem occurs, ask me before checking for solution> OK your way out

Now you should be prompted if you have an error that wants to send a report. Let us know what error(s) you get so we can look at the root problem.

Hello

Ive upgraded my system with new motherboard, cpu, ssd, ddr4 and psu. installed windows again but it seems to use fairly high amount of ram even if everything is disabled from msconfig (except the avast antivirus) as it didnt get disabled even if marked.

with all currently installed programs are enabled the ram usage is 6.8gb/16gb and with all disabled is shown on the picture that ive attached.

If i remember right, when the windows was just first time started the ram usage was much lower. but after installing the programs that i had before and will need, it raised quite alot. But i cant seem to add up where all those gb's are used.

Hi any help would be greatly appreciated My old desktop running XP sp has started to encounter problems Sometimes it boots very slowly but the main issue I m having is its general usability The cpu usage is peaking around - when the machine is idle and as you can imagine this makes everything incredibly slow I ve run my usual anti-virus malware spyware programs In Safe Mode all came back clean Microsoft Security Essentials rkill Malwarebytes ComboFix SAS As far as I can tell there are no erroneous programs services running when looking in Task Manager Processes however I have noticed the windows update process wuauclt exe using a significant amount of RAM but ending this process doesn t seem to affect the cpu usage issue I am aware of times when there has been more than one instance of wuauclt exe running albeit very infrequently I searched my computer for wuauclt exe and came back usage infected? Slow, possibly high CPU when WinXP idle, with more results than I expected not just the one in the System folder which has lead me to think that perhaps there WinXP Slow, CPU usage high when idle, possibly infected? is indeed a virus present that I m just not picking up on The machine itself is a good years old and probably on its last legs anyway I had to change the CMOS battery this morning as it had been losing time date for a while but everything went smoothly and the issue mentioned above has been occuring for quite a while although now it has become almost unusable Any help would be greatly appreciated perhaps someone could take a look at my HijackThis logs or ComboFix logs and let me know if there are any issues Many thanks Chris

Hello everyone I've been having a very weird problem recently in which I BELIEVE is involving high physical memory usage Sometimes I will be doing things such as playing a game or watching a stream and my computer will run fine for a little while But at random times my computer will majorly slow down and sometimes even crash If it doesn't crash sometimes it will get so slow to the point where I have to hold down the power button and manually shut it down Every time my computer slows down I notice it is using a TON of physical memory It's actually happening right now My computer is going very slow and it's using GB memory out of physical Very high memory running usage, no programs usage high There are no big programs running right Very high physical memory usage, no high usage programs running now so I don't understand why it's being slow I hope someone is able to help Thank you for taking the time to read this Update I just tried to open chrome and the computer froze completely It would not unfreeze After leaving it frozen for a minute or two the screen went black This is becoming very frustrating

Hi Folks,
I'm running Windows Vista Home premium with SP2 on my Toshiba Satellite 350 series and although I've only my desktop running, the CPU is hovering between 50-55%.
When I go to task manager, show processes from all users I can see that one of the scvhost.exe files is causing the CPU to run at 50%. I highlight and left click and "Go to services" there I see 12 highlighted files.
If I just stop Windows Update from running, my CPU usage falls to 2-3%. The other files don't reduce CPU usage.
I've tried running your "Tweeking.com for Windows, but no joy.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening, please?

Regards
Geoff.

A:Windows Update Causing High Cpu Usage

When CPU is running at that level are you having any actual problems surfing, emailing or doing anything else?
With Vista you can choose to turn Windows Update off, then just run it once a month (second Tuesday of every month is when WU are applied) to get updates.
You might want to look at Black Viper's reputable website and his recommendations for Services in a 'safe' configuration:

Computer stats Windows Pro Bit Gigabyte Socket Mobo Intel Core Duo CPU Nvidia GT GB DDR Ram MSI TV Anywhere PCI TV Tuner Soundblaster Audigy ZS I have recently beginning with last Thursday been experiencing after a good - hours of the computer being on a massive spike in CPU usage it goes from - and stays I narrowed it down using Process Explorer to svchost with the culprit being ntdll dll underneath it NTDLL.DLL CPU high Causing svchost.exe Usage + Here is the picture of it Its TID that does it The only way svchost.exe + NTDLL.DLL Causing high CPU Usage to stop the spike is by suspending the thread If I do that it temporarily fixes the issue Within a few hours it spikes back up again Also sometimes if I suspend the thread I cannot load any new programs and Windows ends up stalling I don't know why it does this or how to resolve the issue Can anyone help me as to the exact cause and how to resolve it Thank you very much

A:svchost.exe + NTDLL.DLL Causing high CPU Usage

I'm not the right person to talk to about this, but that dll is a required one used by the kernel. I'm guessing, but I think that both of the processes that you mentioned may indicate that the problem is being caused by some other third party software on your system If that be the case, you would need to locate it by a process of elimination. Go into msconfig and using selective startup, disable everything listed on the startup tab window, and run it that way long enough to see if the problem reappears. If it does, then you might have to consider other possibilities, like a system restore or repair install.

A:Mysteriously high RAM usage causing computer to lag

First of all, Vista and Seven handles RAM in a different way than XP.In layman terms it'll take all RAM it can get and cache it for immediate use if needed.More info: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/09/why-does-vista-use-all-my-memory.htmlHowever in your case you seem to have some issues which affect computer's performance.Let's take a look....Download Process Explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspxUnzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.Click on View > Select Colunms. In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.Upload the file(s) here: http://uploadmb.com/Copy the link inside the Direct Link box and post it in your next reply.

I opened task manager, and sorted by cpu usage, and " Store Broker" was using app 35% of my cpu just sitting at desktop.
I ended it in task manager - what the heck is this and why would it be running?

Thanks for any help on this,

Could be a number of things:
- your last 'trip' to the Store you didn't sign out,
- you may not have completely closed the Store app,
- you may have a bunch of updates pending,
- there may be more reasons......

This is a Dell Optiplex running Windows 2000. On startup, winlogon.exe consumes 30 to 90 % of cpu resources for a minute or more, then returns to normal (0%). I've verified that the system is clean of viruses/spyware (Adaware, Spybot, TrendMicro housecall, clean HJT log, etc.). I recentlyinstalled AVG antivirus, but disabling this application has no effect on the winlogon problem. Also, this system has a corrupt user profile and II've recently created a new user profile and copied documents over to the new one. And last but not least, the winlogon problem does not occur in Safe Mode.
Thank you.

I suppose I should say hi first. Hello. I'm having a bit of a problem with my computer. I'm running WinXP Media Center Edition with SP2 and after getting rid of a holiday season trojan/malware/spyware fiesta from my computer I'm now experiencing huge slow down which, as far as me and my antivirus (Avast 4.8 Home Edition) can tell nothing is wrong. But I'm having High CPU usage from a Svchost.exe file and System Idle Processes. Each of them using 50% constantly according to Process Explorer.

I also feel I should tell that there was a Registry Booster involved in trying to fix my computer. That might have had something to do with this too. Any idea what could have went wrong?

Hello Mojinr

Svchost.exe is often used by malware so I think you still have remains of the infection on your system.

I just upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Pro x last week and I am already experiencing some issues The most pressing is that I am experiencing USBPORT.SYS ntoskrnl.exe and CPU high usage causing stuttering after I have been using the computer for varying lengths of time It can occur within a few minutes of first booting the computer or it can happen within hours The time also varies depending on what I am doing either normal internet use or gaming I have updated all my chipset and ntoskrnl.exe and USBPORT.SYS causing high CPU usage hardware drivers and it was still occuring So I looked into it a bit more and found suggestions to run the xperf program to find my high CPU usage It comes up with ntoskrnl exe and USBPORT SYS as causing the highest amount of usage I also ran LatencyMon after seeing several suggestions for ntoskrnl.exe and USBPORT.SYS causing high CPU usage that program as well It also comes up with ntoskrnl exe as causing the highest amount of CPU usage Aside from updating drivers I have also tried reinstalling Windows a second time with no luck Any way to fix this issue

A:ntoskrnl.exe and USBPORT.SYS causing high CPU usage

welcome to the windows seven forums miffedmolkusk,

ntoskrnl.exe is the NT (new technology) OS Operating System KRNL (Kernel) which to use different words the "dude in charge" one way of simplifying it is.. it is windows (although that is very simplistic, it might explain why it would use the most power from the CPU. USBPORT.SYS is the main driver for USB (universal serial bus) connections, which are A.)fast and B.) supply 5volts to connected devices, so it would be another power greedy driver. So I doubt that that is unusual (the increased voltage to those two items)

did you run the windows 7 upgrade wizard to be sure your hardware can handle windows 7?

also as win7 requires more labor intensive graphics for opaque type effects, as well as 3D efx, the GPU (graphics processing unit) likely requires more power so your power supply I suppose could be right at the line, teetering back and forth between working fine and the problems.

a full sudden shutdown can also be caused by an overheated or improperly cooled CPU (lack of thermal paste, bad heat sink contact, inadequate fan cooling the CPU's heat sink, or dust caked over the grooves) It is a safety feature to prevent burning our CPU to ash! Sometimes the fan will really run fast (and loud) prior to this type of shutdown.

And I am assuming you do not overclock your system?

I'd also run a full virus scan, if the system can take it!

Hope this helps,
mike

Hi recently I've been experiencing random spikes of lag in my laptop I use AllCPUMeter gadget to monitor my systems CPU dxm.exe high of causing random spikes usage. The dxm.exe causing random spikes of high CPU usage. symptom was that CPU usage would increase highly without any major programs being runned This had happened while my laptop was idle and after a few seconds of hang my Aero crashes turns to basic for a second and restores itself Then my Nvidia driver would pop up saying the display driver crashed I've tried opening task manager to find out what was using up power when it starts to spike and unfortunately the usage would always return dxm.exe causing random spikes of high CPU usage. to normal as soon as I open it After some digging around I used Process Explorer and determined that dwm exe is the culprit However this seems to be a second exe as you can see from the picture I've attached It shows the high usage and a bit below another dwm exe Some other things I've noticed is rundll exe went up to approximately at times but not while the spikes happen Could any of this be related to my friend unplugging my laptop This is not a huge problem exactly but it is annoying I cant watch a movie for minutes without the screen going black and the temperature soars extremely high So if anyone has any idea how to deal with this problem please help me Update It seems that the lag occurs when the laptop is idle and will continue until I move the mouse or interact with the laptop

A:dxm.exe causing random spikes of high CPU usage.

Done a quick search and found this removal of dxm.exe - Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs

If it is what it says it is id Recommend running some programs to get rid of it

download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
After the scan has finished...

This time click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder

A:High RAM Usage on Idle W10 - Tried Poolmon/Tips of Forum Didn't Work

Actually, I don't think there's a problem mainly because Windows likes as much memory as it can get and also because there's always something running in the background. Two ways I prevent problems with RAM/Random Access Memory is to use the written recommended [in Windows, Help and Support] of 1.5 Times the physical RAM for the Virtual Memory/paging file and also to run 6GB or 8GB RAM depending upon the maximum allowed by the motherboard. I know there's a cost involved that some folks can't deal with.
