All new Hardware Custom build Freezes requiring hard reboot

Q: All new Hardware Custom build Freezes requiring hard reboot

Hey guys, I have a PC that was custom built with all new hardware, and I'm getting hard freezes anywhere from once a day to once a month.
It happens while doing anything from watching a movie, to just browsing the web.

I replaced the PSU, flashed the Bios, reinstalled windows, changed the power settings, updated drivers but the problem still occurs.

Windows event viewer doesn't show anything that related to the crash except "previous system shutdown was unexpected".

I ran a stress and cpu test as well memtest all of those came up fine.
Since all the hardware is new not sure what to switch out first, or if I should reinstall windows again or change something in the bios.

I'm using a
Intel i7 3770k,
Intel graphics 4000,
Asus H61M-A Motherboard,
1 Crucial DDR3 Ram 8GB
Samsung Evo 840 SSD as primary drive,
Seagate 1TB HDD
Corsair 550 watt PSU

Any help is appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Avaava mate now you say you have swapped out most of the components just exactly have you not swapped out? I am assuming the board is new in which case (no pun) may have an issue.

Now just out of my curiosity could you do this as the PSU bought new might not be right and it would really eliminate for good that source of any problem.

Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my pic the section (Nuvoton) with VBATT is a dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are other section titles and one that pops up often is ITE
Now the voltage on the different rails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will not work properly if at all.
See this for the rail voltage info
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-specifications-atx-reference,3061.html (Section 2.)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.
Use PART A: for the PSU (the pic is of my main deskie - Asus Ivy Bridge board so am guessing the section you will see will be Nuvoton) should you want to know the very fine detail of other stuff use PART B:

As the title says, I'm experiencing random crashes in the form of freezing. No BSOD, no power down or reset, just an unrecoverable freeze.
The computer is a relatively new build (3-4 months old), and this has been happening the entire time.
This occurs during gaming, Installation of software, and various other instances.
Memtest showed nothing, so the RAM is probably fine.

I seem to have a couple of common ones; one refers to attempting to write to a read-only memory area. Another talks about a clock interrupt. I stumbled on the jcgriff2 website with diagnostic tools and went through those steps and have three zip files with the results. I also updated drivers using Uniblue, and updated the Award BIOS, ran a memory check, and chkdsk.

I appreciate any help you guys can give. Since about Windows 95, I haven't really kept up on the technical side so much.

Thanks in advance.

Nice little system... Make sure that the boot SSD drive is on a SATA3 port configured AHCI in the bios. If it is, you might want to set up the 1TB drive as the boot dive for testing purposes

This is not a blue screen crash. My laptop simply freezes and nothing works requiring a reboot.

One characteristic is that once the computer has been rebooted the problem won't occur again during the same day.

Further, I consistently use Hibernate rather than Shut Down, and this problem may not occur for several days if I hibernate it every night. Eventually it will freeze after being reopened from Hibernate.

However, if I do shut it down at night and boot it in the morning it always seems to freeze within the first 15 minutes of being booted. Again once rebooted it won't happen again until the next day.

I would appreciate any input someone can offer on this since it is annoying and time consuming.

Thanks,

Paul

A:Computer freezes requiring reboot

Sounds like an application on startup that's to blame to me. Have you tried using msconfig to help figure out the culprit (if there is a culprit)?

My system freezes several times a day requiring a reboot. My OS is XP SP2, fully AV'd and fire-walled with anti spyware software installed and updated, so the freezes are unlinked to any issue there I think.

Last software I installed was for a new wireless router and adapter which was compatible with my ADSL2+ broadband service (8MB), the previous wasn't.

The freezes can happen when I'm browsing the internet (which is mostly what I use the PC for) or even simply when left unattended.

I want to be able to try to identify what the source is before I attempt a complete software re-install of XP and everything else.

Is there a system log or something that XP keeps on my PC that someone here would be able decipher if I posted?

thanks in advance

For the past couple of months my PC has had quite a few hangs which require hard reboots to get it working again.  Generally, but not always, this seems to happen when I am downloading a large file -- both through my browser and more frequently when using a download manager such as Jdownloader.

I have attached the sysnativefilecollection info.  Unfortunately Perfmon would not respond. The application just hung and was listed as not responding.

Info about my PC is below:

-- Windows 7 -- originally pre-installed
-- X64 operating system
-- Age of system: 7/2012
-- Age of OS: 2012
-- CPU: Intel Core i7-3770
-- Videocard: Nvidia GeForce GT 640
-- Motherboard: Dell OYJPT1
-- Power supply -- not sure how to determine this
-- System Manufacturer: Dell
-- Model Number: XPS 8500
-- Type: Desktop

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

A:Windows 7 - Frequent hangs requiring hard reboot

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).
FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

Hi

I seem to be having the same issue as another poster. My computer has been running very slowly for a while. Now it keeps freezing at random times and there is nothing I can do (right click to close, ctrl/alt/delete, etc)so I have to do a hard reboot. When I try to run scans it either freezes or completely turns my computer off. I have tried to run them in both normal and safe mode.

Any help would be appreciated and if you need any more information I will do my best to provide it.

Thank you

My computer will freeze at random times when playing games like Halo 2, STALKER, Crysis, Far Cry 2, and Caesar 4. I don't think it is a heat problem since it will happen at random times and my dad's comp, which also has the same specs doesn't freeze. So I was wondering if any of you could help me figure out what is wrong. Specs are right here.

Have you Googled deeply into Samsung SSD issues? They have had several problems recently regarding firmware and their Magician software.

I don't own a Samsung, so did not pay a lot of attention to the details. I do know that sleep issues can be related to firmware.

Walk down these search results as a starting point:

Did you substitute another power supply? Did you reseat all connectors?
Another thing -you say that you Flashed the BIOS and that produced a temporary fix. You might want to contact Asus about the issue based on this alone.

A:Multiple BSOD in custom build can't tell if driver or hardware issue

Hi,

Your installation is counterfeit activated using the LENOVO (BLACKLISTED!) key.
There is no point analysing your issue as your system may be compromised by the Activation
exploit used.

The best course of action is to:Purchase a legitimate Windows 7 licence.
Format the HDD.
Reinstall Windows and activate.

Ok, So I recently completed building my first computer (desktop) and the system POST

I did initialize it using an external hard drive reader and I am able to read/write using that, but when I install the Hard drive into the computer in question it isnt detected. I tried checking the jumper posistion (master or slave) and also tried using a different cable.

Any ideas why its not being detected? Thanks in advance for any help.

I recently put together my custom build, and it worked fine for about a month, but I went to install my new Seagate hard drive and it immediately started boot looping. It usually gets to the windows Logo, then freezes for a moment, black screens, and starts again, sending me to a window asking if I'd like to launch startup repair, but once I click on it, it blue screens. I already made sure it's not trying to launch Windows from the new drive, and I tried running a diskpart on the new drive and repartitioned it, which let it boot once and it stayed on for a few hours. What should I do to fix this? It only started happening after I installed the new drive.

Win NT keeps freezing up and I have to reboot manually. Often I'm just moving the cursor and it freezes. When I turn the computer off, it's more likely to successfully turn on if I wait several minutes before pressing the on button. I've been defragging the hard drive, but after many times, it's still 54% fragmented. I've found that it always boots up in VGA mode and it's never hung when in that mode. Any ideas? Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

A:Random freeze requiring reboot, win 8.1

Hi,

0x124 hardware stops. As you already know, that means hal.

Uninstall Avast, reboot, then use their removal tool to remove remnants. Set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic and start them too.
Make sure there is no overclocking. Monitor temps to ensure within spec, clean fans if necessary. Update bios to newest. Use CPU-Z to compare Memory tab to SPD tab, to see if memory is set well.

Update these if possible:

My situation: New HP Media Center PC with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
The problem: The PC freezes up completely at seemingly random intervals. I could be using a browser, trying to watch a DVD, checking my e-mail, working inWordor anything and the computer just stopsresponding. The keyboard and mouseare completely unresponsiveandthe only thing I can do is a hard reboot. There are no error messages or anything else to indicate what caused the lock-up. My USB ports still seem active (external hub lights remain on). Because Vista is OEM supplied, I have to use HP tech support and I can't even get them to understand what the problem is, let alone make any useful suggestions as to how I might fix it. I see from other threads here that other people have had similar problems. Has anyone managed ot figure out what's goin on and fix it?

A:Vista Freezes Up - Can Do Nothing But Hard Reboot

VISTA FREEZE PROBLEM SOLVED! I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I'll give all the steps I was given and what eventually worked.

Gateway customer service asked me to do the following:
-Run windows recovery utilities in right after BIOS loads (on a gateway, it's F8 right after starting the PC). This didn't solve my problem, but may help you. Most users propobly don't know those tools exist.
-We tried rolling back to an earlier recovery point... but we couldn't get it to work.
-As mentioned before, we pulled the memory out to ensure not static charge.
-Finally (this seems to be what did the trick), we went into MSCONFIG, deactivated everything, and I read each item to Gateway tech support, who told me what to check and what not to check (basically, anything with Microsoft, Intel, or our Virus Scan/Firewall programs were allowed to remain, everything else was deactivated). It now seems to work just fine! I've got to put in a good plug for Gateway's customer support... they really did help with this.

Hope this helps someone!

I have a HP Pavillion A x -AMD Athlon XP GHz - g RAM - GB Seagate HD-NVIDIA GeForce mb video card-Power Supply Antec Model TPII- WpsAbout - months ago my computer started freezing a lot we tried every spyware removal tool and ran virus scans and the whole yards it was so bad that Norton would crash the computer when trying to install it Comp Freezes Do And Hard Must Reboot Finally we reinstalled Windows XP SP and all was great for about an hour then it started freezing again When it freezes the whole computer locks up I get this little tiny two or three inch long thin white line Comp Freezes And Must Do Hard Reboot in the middle of the screen Also I read that if you can press the Num Lock key and the light blinks on and off that I should give it a minute but my num lock key just stares at me Nothing works mouse freezes keyboard freezes and I have to hard boot with the power button to restart It does it all the time surfin the net listening to music ect but it does it MOST while playing the java based online game Runescape I m a huge gamer and I ve abused my compy with the Sims and Roller Coaster Tycoon all of my settings surpass min requirements for gameplay and I can use optimum graphic settings w o any type of lag While playing these games this is the ONLY time the computer DOES NOT freeze and that makes me think its NOT the video card Also my CPU while running Runescape sits about - and constantly maxes out at I don t know if this is a major problem because it is an online game but thought it would be nice to include I don t normally have other programs running while playin except MSN or AIM messenger one or the other My husband and I thought it might be a heat issue and we have cleaned my computer out many times and now its no longer near the floor it s sitting on top of my desk and drawing quite a bit of air more than it was before yet it s still doing this Could this possibly be a hard drive issue Ram We upgraded RAM when we first got the computer almost years ago and I ve just recently had problems Everyone else we asked said it could be the hard drive but I m still not sure why it would cause it to lock up as much as it does Hope someone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate any imput we have tried as much as we can but we are all still pretty new at this whole compy biz Thanks so much Ashley

A:Comp Freezes And Must Do Hard Reboot

When you re-installed XP, did you also install the latest drivers for your video and audio cards?
Have you run checkdisk and then defragged recently?

I've been beating this computer up for about a week now and while I've amassed enormous reference material about solving various problems and inconsistencies within Vista Vista gameplay, reboot hard during Freezes needs 64 none have yet actually solved my problem The problem is thus Moments after starting or loading a game WoW Spore BF Etc the entire system just freezes and can only be restarted after a hard boot If I don't load a game it is basically stable My first thought was a video issue but I purchased a new GeForce GT and installed the guru d drivers the problem persisted with stock nvidia drivers so I've ruled out video drivers Vista 64 Freezes during gameplay, needs hard reboot having used sets of video drivers with video cards I upgraded to a W power supply since for some reason Gateway still uses W PSU but the problem persists I've updated all drivers from manufacturer's website and reinstalled the OS I've run full integrity checks on the HDD and RAM and I can't find a BIOS update for the foxconn RS motherboard I've tweaked BIOS settings and reset them to optimal defaults I've swapped out the RAM and tried using different channels I've scoured over the event viewer but since it 'freezes' I don't get a crash report only the usual error after reboot that 'recovered from an unexpected shutdown' I guess my question is does anyone know of a BIOS update solution for this motherboard or how can i 'record' the activities of my PC so that I can see exactly what causes the freeze to occur Any help is greatly appreciated thanks Computer Model GT Computer Manufacturer Gateway OS Name Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate C Windows Device Harddisk Partition OS Version System Type x -based PC Total Vista 64 Freezes during gameplay, needs hard reboot Physical Memory MB Windows Directory C Windows BIOS Version Default System BIOS CPU AMD Phenom tm Quad-Core Processor Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GT Resolution x x colors

Even though you tested it and it passed, I think it`s the hard drive. Do you have another drive you can install to rule it out ?

Ok so I am going to try to explain this as thorougly as possible while trying not to sound like an idiot in requires Screen reboot randomly, hard Freezes the process Screen Freezes randomly, requires hard reboot I am by no means computer savvy so anyone that has any advice will more than likely need to talk to me like a Screen Freezes randomly, requires hard reboot th grader I am ok with Screen Freezes randomly, requires hard reboot that Since installing a Windows Update about a month ago my screen will randomly lock up At times it will clear itself after a couple of seconds and state something to the effect that quot display driver amd has stopped working and recovered quot Other times it will stay frozen for about minutes and then will start functioning properly again More often than not though it will stay frozen indefinitely and require a hard reboot This happens during mundane activities No extreme gaming going on Generally it is while just browsing the net It tends to happen more often to my wife who uses it during the day to work through a VPN I don't believe there is any correlation though I have read multiple forums on the web and have tried several things from cleaning the registry to uninstalling the driver software and reinstalling it in safe mode The latter seemed to work last night but today my wife started having the same issue again I am attaching the file from the SF Diagnostic tool but it said I didn't have any dumps to log I'm sorry if that makes a suggestion more difficult Thank you in advance for any and all help I can get Brandon

A:Screen Freezes randomly, requires hard reboot

See if you can get to the DMP's this way....

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

HP Pavilion Elite HPE- t CTO Desktop PC HP M Monitor connected with HDMI cable Windows -bit I bought this pc from HP in It ran perfectly until i got a virus a few months Monitor signal install restart reboot loses during requiring after back and lost both hard drives due to corruption and had to start from scratch I had a local computer shop install new drives amp reinstall Windows as I am not that Monitor loses signal during reboot after install requiring restart computer savvy Everything is now up and running Monitor loses signal during reboot after install requiring restart fine with the exception of this issue In a nut shell the issue is whenever there is a delay in the pc rebooting due to software installation or windows update the Monitor loses signal during reboot after install requiring restart monitor will lose signal usually right after the windows starting screen but before the log-on screen appears clicking the mouse or keyboard does not bring back the signal and the monitor just goes to sleep I have to manually power the pc down at that point because i cannot see what it's doing Just pressing the power button once on the pc does not always power it off at this point Sometimes I even lose the montor signal after I log in and the desktop is loading for a few seconds the monitor will lose signal and go to sleep If it's a straight boot-up or restart with no configuration going on in the background it seems to be fine and i can log-in normally If I get into the desktop without losing signal then I never encounter any other signal loss or monitor issues until the next required reboot Another thing it has done randomly a few times is if I put the pc into sleep mode when i wake it the desktop will sometimes come up for a second and then the monitor will go black but unlike the issue at reboot when this happens the monitor still shows it has an active HDMI signal even though the screen is black Again nothing will bring back the signal and I am forced to manually power down the PC I took the pc back to the shop and they reflashed the Bios and confirmed the monitor and video drivers were up to date They said they did not encounter any of these issues while they had it for two weeks so i do not know what to think They suggested it may be a windows glitch that may be fixed with a future update but i don't think that's the case I was thinking of connecting the monitor with a DVI cable to see if that made any difference I really don't think it's a hardware issue but i am puzzled as to why the computer repair shop said they did not encounter this once unless they did not do anything that required a restart of the system I understand it is very difficult to diagnose issues that happen randomly The occurrence of this only after a software install or windows update requiring a delayed restart seems to be the only common symptom Thanks in advance for help

A:Monitor loses signal during reboot after install requiring restart

Well in this case i would recommend you to update the BIOS and the Video Drivers and that might resolve the issue for you.

Edit My PSU died so I assume sound Black requiring reboot loop and crash screen that was the cause of the issue this whole time a half functioning power supply This issue occurs whether I am gaming or not but gaming causes it Black screen and sound loop crash requiring reboot to occur more often In fact my pc crashed typing this post so I'm currently rewriting it all When I go to reboot the computer I notice CPU fans and top back are off I'm not sure if that means anything but yesterday I had to reseat my GPU ram etc to get my computer bootable due to this issue I'm not really sure what to do I've tried many things I've had this black screen issue for months now RAM is fine memtest doesn't detect any issues I have tried using only one of the ram sticks at a time as well I have tried reseating the GPU putting it into a different slot Newest GPU drivers Temps are good all under idle Tried Windows Windows HDD and SSD Making sure all the PSU cables are fully in their place along with every other cable in the PC Have taken out all of the PC parts out and rebuilt my PC Booted PC without CMOS battery Installed a mobo speaker and all is normal there I've tried using the other GPU video headers Furmark gets my GPU to c under maximum load My cpu I believe gets to c I can't find any memory dumps since it's not a BSOD But I could potentially be looking in the wrong places Event Viewer only tells me that the PC turned off unexpectedly I'm thinking of sending the GPU to MSI it's still good for warranty and all but I don't even know what exactly is causing this weird issue

Starting a few days ago When ever i booted my PC after about 3-5 minutes on it would freeze. After hard reboot I would either get BSOD or the monitor wouldn't work. I've ran a full scan with both avast and malwarebytes and I'm not infected. I'm running memtest now, 6 passes and no errors.

Memtest finished 7 passes not 1 error.. restarted system was fine til earlier when i got home.. turned on PC and few mins in it froze again. had to hard reboot a few times didn't get any BSOD this time.

I had originally posted this issue on this forum but it was moved to the "Am I infected? What do I do?" forum.  We ran ESET online scanner, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, AdwCleaner, and Junkware Removal Tool.  We deleted or disabled start up items and scheduled tasks but computer still freezes up.  Only a reboot gets it going again.  Task Manager shows "Disk"  stuck at 100%.  There is 40 gigs space left on the drive.  It was recommended that I start a new topic on this forum.  We did find a suspicious file ... conime.exe, but I could not locate it to submit it to www.virustotal.com for evaluation.  Not sure if it is important or not but the on-screen keyboard keeps popping up. Stays gone for a while after closing but pops up again after a few minutes or whenever I open a different app. I ran FRST.  The files are attached.

PC randomly freezes 4-5 times per week, requiring power-off reboot.  Happens in Windows 8 and two different versions of Linux.  Tried booting from Linux live DVD OS with same results.  Ran all diagnostic tests several time with no problems found, except it locked up during one series of testing.  Problem seems worse when accessing the internet.

A:Windows Explorer Freezes requiring relaunch - Lenovo X230

Windows 8 does not play nice with older hardware, especially older Intel hardware. You did not post if you are using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 8.1. Intel does have updated drivers for that GPU. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...01&FamilyId=39

Try the latest drivers and see if that works. As for changing the motherboard. You would not be able to do so with a Laptop. Since they are specific to the case.

This has been occurring for months now hard crashing, PC reset. requiring It is EXTREMELY PC crashing, requiring hard reset. annoying especially if I am in the middle of something very important The mouse cursor will lock everything will freeze and this will usually be followed by any sound repeating buzzing freezing From here it is a complete freeze The only way to get out of this is to restart my computer Now another surprising thing is that usually I need to push my reset button in PC crashing, requiring hard reset. all the way for my PC to reset I suppose this is so you don't bump the button When the crash occurs I only have to slightly touch the reset button for my PC to completely shut down Strange Upon first glance I suspected this to be my power supply however now I am not sure it could really be any other component I am fairly confident that this is hardware related but not sure what is causing these crashes Nothing seems to quot trigger quot the crashes It can happen whilst watching videos playing games browsing the web or simply idling Any help would be appreciated thanks

Please provide full specs of your PC including PSU make/model/wattage so we know what we're looking at. Could quite possibly be a PSU problem, but we need all your other hardware info too (CPU, Motherboard, RAM etc).

hello i m running windows XP home edition and i have had a lot of problems recently with malware and trojans the most recent incident involved one shut freeze down hard requiring computer of those fake virus removal pop ups that pretty much debilitated my computer on startup i couldn t run malwarebytes or computer freeze requiring hard shut down avira antivir however i was able to figure out which process to end so that i could run both programs i finally got them to run all the way through and after several times they came up clean however my computer continues to freeze for no obvious reason there doesn t seem to be any one action that sets it off sometimes it s when i m watching video sometimes when i m just surfing the net or on photoshop if there s audio going on at the time of the freeze it starts skipping my only option at that point is a hard shut down and sometimes it seems to quot hiccup quot too - something i m typing may pause for a moment and i ll think everything s about to freeze up either way my computer doesn t last for more than minutes at a time without freezing sometimes no more than minutes i have run combofix to try to solve the problem my ISP reccomended it as a last resort for the previous trojan problem i had but it s not working either any suggestions would be appreciated thank you in advance

Oh, one other thing (I'm not trying to bump the topic):

I just had to shut down again and when I booted back up I noticed an error message pop up titled "Anti-Spyware" that says "An Unexpected Problem was encountered Error# 0x80004003"

Thanks again.

I've been having a pretty weird problem that started about a month or two ago and happens anywhere from once a week to once every other day No software was installed around when this started happening and no hardware changes were made in the preceding months either I've had this machine for about years Every program will become slow and or unresponsive and Win shutdown, becomes requiring hard changes unresponsive recent no if I can manage to close any of them Win becomes unresponsive requiring hard shutdown, no recent changes the item text will vanish from the taskbar but the quot icon quot will still remain Here's a picture to illustrate https i imgur com GoY UBN jpg No matter how long I wait it will not go away and no programs remaining open will start to respond Additionally I cannot start any application Win becomes unresponsive requiring hard shutdown, no recent changes - an application I try to start will appear in Task Manager I always have it running so I didn't have a need to open that thankfully but only using a very small amount of RAM No matter how long I wait it will never use more than like kbish of RAM I can close some applications using the task manager But sometimes if I try to end a process it will ask me quot Are you sure quot and then will proceed to not close it or close it so it quot vanishes quot from the taskbar like in the picture Win becomes unresponsive requiring hard shutdown, no recent changes and the task manager and the taskbar freeze Sometimes they freeze independent of me doing that Trying to restart via the start menu does not work No matter how long I wait no applications will close and nothing will change Things I have tried without success -sfc scannow -Malwarebytes -avast antivirus -Hard drive change I recently cloned and replaced my C drive with another drive but this problem predated that change by about weeks and has persisted with the drive change There are also no consistent triggers I have left the computer on for a few days when I go out of town and find my messenger windows seem to be up and running but actually turned unresponsive and stopped receiving messages after I was out of town for a day or two with no indication anything was wrong Messages I typed and sent after this quot silence quot were never received by the other party and checking the message history via an external interface after a reboot confirms there was more I did not receive and the messages I tried sending went into the ether Additionally Steam was unable to connect to the Internet so it seems whatever problem this is also impacts Internet access The only thing I can think of that MIGHT be related to this is I don't want Windows and have chosen to hide some updates related to that but might have missed some I've never accepted any of the install prompts and have them hidden I've built my past two computers and consider myself pretty savvy but I've never seen anything like this and have no clue how I would even search for it to see if others have had it I should also note there were a few times when after logging into Windows the network connection refused to work A reboot or two later it would work with no problem This has not happened for a while and could have been me being impatient but thought it worth mentioning Waiting on programs to respond or the machine to restart via the start menu has meant me waiting hours though so that unresponsiveness is definitely not my imagination Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place Please let me know any information you'd need Thank you

A:Win becomes unresponsive requiring hard shutdown, no recent changes

Hello oddprob,

A few more things to try:

1. Possibly a corrupt user account. Could create a new account and see if the issue persists.

2. Check Device Manager for Driver issues. Once there, be sue to click on "View" then "Show Hidden Devices."

3. May still be Malware related. You could post in our "System Security Forum" for help. http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/

4. Run CHKDSK.

5. Run Clean Boot

Hope this helps,
John

This particular problem has been driving me nuts for a few weeks now. I'll be happily browsing, usually in Chrome, when all of a sudden pages stop loading with the "Resolving Host..." message in the bottom left corner. The page will then never load and nor will any other, and I'll usually get the dinosaur pic with no internet connection message if I open new tabs. The connection itself doesn't go down as any downloads I may have going will continue as normal. I've tried every suggestion I could find online, from changing DNS server to Google, reinstalling network card, adobe flash, browser extensions, java, but none of it seems to make any difference. I may be able to browse for an hour or 5 minutes but the more I fiddle the worse it seems to get. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

A:Random "Resolving Host..." requiring reboot

sounds to me like your modem and router need a reset. Unplug both of them, then wait about a minute; the plug the modem back in and let it fully boot; then plug the router back in and let it boot fully. If its a all in one modem and router just unplug it, wait a minute or so then plug it back in to hopefully reset the connection.

Hello, I was hoping maybe somebody could help me with this laptop. The issue I'm having is most of the time when I walk away from it and leave it on, upon returning the screen is just black, the computer is running but there is no response on the keyboard or mouse, which requires a hard shutdown and a restart. It then says it was not shut down properly, I start it up, and it runs fine until the next time I walk away and it does this freeze thing. I also want to note that it does not always do this, sometimes it sleeps like it should, but the problem is increasing in frequency.

A:Laptop screen goes black, requiring hard reset

No I have had this before its the drivers, the video card is going out, anything? Nobody on this forum has seen a laptop that would keep running but freeze on a black screen after going idle?

Take a guess!

Hi all I've been having this problem for quite some time now I would say a year or more where my computer completely freezes up without any prompting It's quite frustrating to diagnose since it happens on such a random basis -there seems to be no trend as to what kind of programs I have running what kind of things I am using it for etc Sometimes it happens when I'm just browsing the net other times it happens when I just have some files up ie not memory intensive tasks -today it even happened when I put a USB stick in I am at a complete loss as to what might be the cause I have already deleted some old programs that I'm not using but that hasn't seemed to have done anything I've done a disk cleanup and run a scan for viruses The freeze can only be resolved with a hard restart which I know is not good for the computer I've already had to do this some or so times already I've attached the event viewer taken computer reset requiring Random freeze hard about - minutes after the last freeze I had the one when it froze after I put my USB stick in Any help or advice at all would be much appreciated

Hello,

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 on my custom built PC. Since doing so I have random freezes that allow me to do nothing other than hard reset the computer. There is no particular time that it does it, and it has mostly been noticed while either on the desktop or using Firefox.

Attached you will find the files from the Seven Forums Diagnostics Tool.

The first parameter or argument has the value of 0x0, which is a Machine Check Exception, which means the CPU has detected a hardware problem and the address points to a processor error because the CPU has found one, so it could be a different form of hardware which is causing the issue.

We can see that the CPU detected a Timeout Error, but wasn't able to identify what caused the error.

Enable "Round off checking" before the test (see first post below tutorial).

Hey guys wasn't really sure what category to post this thread in So this has been going on for quite some time now when I am streaming videos browsing the internet or playing really low intensity games like minecraft or indie games my computer will crash to a random coloured screen I assume taking the colour from some element of whatever on screen and will project a horrible sound from Crashing to coloured hard reset requiring random screen the speakers I assume a very short loop of the last Crashing to random coloured screen requiring hard reset sounds of what was playing and I am forced to hard reset the computer sometimes it wont happen for a couple of days and then other times it will happen times a day it totally varies with no apparent cause It has a brand new hard drive ram and PSU and the graphics card is fairly recent the mother board and CPU are a couple years old but I can't see this being a hardware issue down to the fact that there seems to be no apparent cause for this issue if the hardware was strictly faulty then im sure it would die in high intensity tasks but it has almost never crashed when playing something like battlefield or the new DOOM game at max settings so that doesn't seem to be the case I also can't see it being an over heating issue as the computer runs quite cool All of my drivers are up to date and this has happend across multiple versions of graphics driver updates Im honestly out of answers I have read countless forums of people suffering with the exact same problem to no ressolve and have tried a rediculous amount of things just about everything you could possibly do yet still found nothing I thought id try to make a post to see if anyone could help me before I give up and take it to the computer store All help is much appreciated Thank you

Hey guys wasn't really sure what category to post this thread in So this has been going on for quite some time now when I am streaming videos browsing the internet or playing really low intensity reset requiring coloured screen hard Crashing random to games like minecraft or indie games my computer will crash to a random coloured screen I assume taking the colour from some element of whatever on screen and will project a horrible sound from the speakers I Crashing to random coloured screen requiring hard reset assume a very short loop of the last sounds of what was playing and I am forced to hard reset the computer sometimes it wont happen for a couple of days and then other times it will happen times a day it totally varies with no Crashing to random coloured screen requiring hard reset apparent cause It has a brand new Crashing to random coloured screen requiring hard reset hard drive ram and PSU and the graphics card is fairly recent the mother board and CPU are a couple years old but I can't see this being a hardware issue down to the fact that there seems to be no apparent cause for this issue if the hardware was strictly faulty then im sure it would die in high intensity tasks but it has almost never crashed when playing something like battlefield or the new DOOM game at max settings so that doesn't seem to be the case I also can't see it being an over heating issue as the computer runs quite cool All of my drivers are up to date and this has happend across multiple versions of graphics driver updates Im honestly out of answers I have read countless forums of people suffering with the exact same problem to no ressolve and have tried a rediculous amount of things just about everything you could possibly do yet still found nothing I thought id try to make a post to see if anyone could help me before I give up and take it to the computer store All help is much appreciated Thank you

I'm on windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit with Vista originally on Laptop. Im on an Asus G71GX-RX05 laptop purchased about 3 years ago. I installed windows 7 with disc provided about 2 years ago. Here are the specs for my laptop.

My issue is that whenever I'm watching Netflix streaming or youtube streaming my computer will freeze completely on the screen that its on. No other screen pops up. It only occurs with streaming websites. I can play PC games fine and browse the internet. Sometimes a weird buzzing noise comes out of the speakers while it is freezing. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

A:Freeze during online video streaming requiring hard reset.

Hello,

I'm still not sure what you mean by "freeze". If the video freezes inside a perfectly normal browser window while it "buffers" due to a slow internet connection. If the browser itself freezes so that it won't respond to your input, that is more complicated and may or may not be helped by a reset: Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset...

A:Games Requiring/Not Requiring Disc to Run

While installing the game to the other computer, you propably chose some "compact" installation method, and therefore it has to load videos/sound/some other material from the disc, because it wasn't installed on the hard drive. I'd try reinstalling the game and choosing the full installation.

I have two copies of Windows 7. One is installed to C:\ - One is installed to D:\

They were both intended to be separate installations, due to a hard drive failure with C:\ .. (and Pre-startup reflects two different versions of Windows 7 to load, of which I have to choose the first one (D:\).

I've attempted to remove the C: from inside my tower, but when I do, D: will not boot up.

I am not understanding why this is happening. I have a new hard drive to use in place of C:, but my BIOS is not liking that I removed it, even though, it's not even supposed to be in use.

I need to get Windows 7 installed to my new Hard Drive, but removing the C: won't even allow me to boot the D: .. I'm using SATA connections for the hard drives.

Hi,
I am interested in an application that can create custom builds of windows 10 in a similar way that RT7Lite does for windows 7, the only application I've found so far isn't really as advanced or as customisable as RT7Lite was... I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions of apps that can do this (that preferably are free and do not require an internet connection)?
Thank you in advance

A:Build for a custom, what do you think?

processor grease 8.99 - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - N82E16835100007Click to expand...

I would ditch that unless your an overclocker, which you don't look like. If you are in fact, an overclocker, I point you toward a sturdy cooler and a better processor, i'm sure the e5200 isn't going to break any records, but it is a good CPU for the price.

PNY is not know for their quality or performance, actually I don't know them at all. OCZ Vista Upgrade 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2VU8004GK - Retail, but staying with the PNY seems just fine, I like OCZ more though.

The powersupply is a weak point, go with the CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX 400W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail at $60.

Building requirement 3.50 - Rosewill RTK-002 Anti-Static Wrist Strap - N82E16899261005Click to expand...

That isn't necessary but if it makes you feel better, and you don't mind buying one.

SAPPHIRE 100255HDMI Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - Retail is a MUCH better graphics card, a little bit more expensive, the 9400 isn't very good.

GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail is a superior motherboard, but it is more expensive and no doubt you could live off the one you mentioned above.

Now I don't know about the motherboard, I can't say anything about that. The price...well, you could switch to an AMD build and save some money for similar performance, and you can stick with the parts you mentioned, but mine have a better bang for the buck .

I recently finished building a pc and am trying to install the motherboard drivers from the cd that came with the board. However, when I try to do so I keep getting this error message:

"No supported drive found: Floppy 1.44mb and USB drive!"

Do you have any ideas what this means?

Thank you!

A:Custom build help

When you are seeking help you need to post your system component specs. Motherboard; EXACT make, model and revision (if applicable). Processor; EXACT make, model and stepping. Memory; EXACT make and model. Graphics Card (if installed); EXACT make and model. Power Supply; EXACT make and model. Provide links to the components. Also post the operating system.

No one can diagnose a problem without knowing the EXACT components you used in the build.

Hi all Up until very recently I have been using Scan XS for custom build workstations for our D designers in our London studio for Build Custom Rendering Unfortunately their customer service has fallen off a cliff in the last few months so I am looking at alternative options One of the biggest advantages with Scan was their prices relative to more established competitors and I m hoping Custom Build for Rendering to find a similarly competitive option I have used Mesh in the past but unfortunately they don t include Quadro graphics Custom Build for Rendering cards in any of their systems this is an essential as we work with Solidworks amp AutoCAD as much as we do ds Max I have built my own in the past but as this is a work machine we d prefer to be backed up by a professional warranty What I am considering at the moment is the HP Z but these use Xeon E - CPUs which according to Intel aren t recommended for rendering I m still happy to consider off-the-shelf systems but ideally I d like to get something along the lines of Windows Pro bit i k or newer nVidia Quadro K or better gb RAM Minimum quot IPS Monitor eg Dell U yr Warranty Under k Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks in advance nbsp

A:Custom Build for Rendering

The Xeon E5-1650 that is in the HP Z420 is an aging processor. I would recommend something newer. I would take a look at the HP workstation site before making a decision through a 3rd party seller like ebuyer.com.

I would recommend looking at newer CPUs such as the ones found >>here<<.

One option is the HP Z420, but it gets quite pricey (~4000 USD not including a monitor (if I am not mistaken)). It has a beefy Xeon E5-1650 V2 inside along with a bunch of other goodies like a Quadro K4000 and a 512GB SSD.

It doesn't seem to me like many of the HP workstations have GPUs, so this is what I recommend: buy a nice HP workstation with a beefy new Xeon E5 6 core CPU (this will kick some mean *** in SolidWorks, AutoCad, and 3DS Max, trust me!) and buy a Quadro or FirePro GPU yourself. Make sure you check the specifications of the PSU first though to confirm that you can run a Quadro GPU on top of the other components. Also, you can easily get a SSD later if you dont want to pay extra for it in the HP workstation. That will run you like $300-500.

If the HP workstations dont work out (the pricing just doesnt workout in the end with the monitors and GPUs and such), then I would get off the shelf parts, but the problem with those is that it is hard to find components with extended warranties. If they do have long warranties, they will probably be expensive.

I hope this helps.

A:How does this look for a custom build setup?

Look into an H50 cooler, I have heard it does better with higher flow fans (For future overclocking or whatever) Also just to warn you, it sounds like there has been a spike in HD prices, so maybe wait on that 3tb drive for a while. Sounds like they are going up in price.

Otherwise it looks good to me.

Good Evening,
I recently had a computer custom built at my local Fry's (not so local though..) 2 weeks ago.
On the second day, the CPU was BSOD hourly, and after bring it to Fry's, they said the power supply was bad, and they replaced it.
I'm still having issues with random BSOD and would rather not bring it to Fry's to have them trouble shoot it for a few days, replace the "bad" component, and give it back to me with the same issue.
My CPU and Motherboard temps average 30-35c even while gaming.

I'm beyond the "return" time frame and only have 2 weeks of build support left from Fry's.
Can someone please decode what the errors are saying and possibly point me in the right direction?
Thank you soooo much!
Sean

Here are my CPU specs

Overclocking is the best way to make a system unstable, crash , freeze or blue screen. First logical steps in BSOD troubleshooting is nothing but reverting any changes made to the CPU/RAM frequency and voltage modifications. You should first uninstall "Asus AI suit III" otherwise it will auto overclock the system. Then enter BIOS setup and load "optimal default values".

You should also understand the merits and demerits of OC. There are certain situations where OC will benefit. Examples are "Autocad" and video rendering works. Those programs will show improved performance in higher clock speed. On the other hand, PC games are GPU centric and even the most CPU demanding games only require a basic quad core CPU like i5. None of today's games are capable of utilizing the full potential of your CPU and hence overclocking it is absolute unnecessary. By overclocking the CPU, you will get crashes instead of FPS increase.

I'm not going to be much help, but if it switches off immediately this is usually a sign of a major problem such as the CPU fan not spinning properly because of a cable stuck in it or something. Have you tried turning it on with the case open so you can see the CPU fan to check if it moves?

I've had something similar in the past with a bad driver. If there are any other/older versions of the driver on the intel website, try those.

Weird. Have you completely cleared the old drivers out just to be sure there isn't a conflict?

A:Dell or Custom build?

Hello and welcome to TechSpot.

I know what nearly everybody on TechSpot will tell you: build your own!

You can look at the Dell and say, "Why, it's $200 cheaper than my own build." You have to consider longer-term costs, however.

Sure, Dell is able to buy the parts and assemble the computer for cheaper than you can buy the parts. Dell is able to do this, however, by using inferior-quality parts. If you buy from Newegg, you have much better-quality parts, and better upgradability, as some parts from Dell are not compatible with other parts, the kind you buy from Newegg. Often computers bought from big companies like that don't have many expansion slots, or not the right kind, so you can't put in a good video card if you decide to game.

Also, if you build your own, you don't have all the junky preinstalled software (like Norton AntiVirus).

Hope this helps a little.

Regards

Hello,

Ever since yesterday in mid afternoon, my computer will not load Resolume despite it working most of the day prior. Each time I run the program, it shuts down before it can even open fully. The system says that an error has occurred and that Windows will update me when there is a solution. I've downloaded every version of Resolumesince 5.0 and no luck. It seems to be a larger problem with the system itself. I have had a few times where the system will crash either unexpectedly or when I attempt to run Resolume.

Attached is my file with the info of the crashes in it. Any help is much appreciated!

narendharkumar3, Thanks for starting the new thread. Unfortunately you are getting a lot of 0X124 errors. That is a generic hardware error. It gives little or nothing about which piece of hardware it is. The only way is to do a lot of time consuming testing and troubleshooting. There was one error that appeared several times

That is Asus Monitoring driver and as you can see is quite old. It most likely comes with Asus AI Suite and can be downloaded from Asus web site for your board. Motherboards - P8H67-M PRO - ASUS

If you do not already have them please download and install CPUz (CPU-Z CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting) and GPUz (GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility) Make sure not to download any of the junk ware they may try to install with the program, you can just uncheck the boxes and not install those add on..

I need you to post screenshots (Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums) of GPU the main page and the sensors tabs. I also need you yo post screenshots of CPUz the CPU tab, the mainboard tab, Memory tab and the SPD tab. On the SPD tab you can select each dim slot, I only need the dim slots that are populated with ram.

If you are overclocking anything, Please set it back to default values. While at the Asus web site update all of your drivers for the motherboard.

When you built the machine, did you do a clean install? Also, thank you for filling in your system specs. If you would, please update them as much as possible If you would like to know what we would like, click 'My System specs' at the bottom left of this post and see mine. I need to know, manufacturer and model of your PSU, Ram, Graphics card, if you have it, hard drives. The easy way to update system specs is go to your last post and click my system specs and there will ne a link there to update them. Just be sure to click save at the bottom of the page.

I would also like you to open a elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow in the box and press enter. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say 'windows found no integrity violations'. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Can you be a little more specific about your BSODs, for instance, do they happen when you run a specific program, or only in gaming or while performing some specific action. We will get to some testing once you answer the questions and upload the screenshots in the manner of the tutorial I linked to. I just need to know as many specifics as I can about your machine and what programs, if any, that cause tour computer to BSOD.

You are also going to need a monitoring program for your CPU and GPU temps. If you have none, I can suggest a couple.

If you don't understand anything I ask or want an explanation, feel free to ask. I don't mind explaining.

I have decided that I need a new PC and I have no idea what custom parts to choose; I want to build it myself, I want the best high end parts possible in an Intel build that can be overclocked when I need to. The price has to include at least 3 monitors and it needs to look EPIC like with LEDs, a case with a window etc. I have 3000-3500 to spend on it. Please help me choose the parts, if someone could find them all in one place e.g Amazon so it saves me some time. The rig is for gaming, video editing and rendering sometimes at the same time.
Thanks guys,

In the meantime have a look at what monitors to get, I.e. if you want 120Hz, IPS, size, resolution, etc.

Radeon R9 380x
Corsair Vengeance LPX ddr4 2400 ram
Seagate Barraccudda 1tb

I've updated all drivers but the issue persists. The issues were gone for a small amount of time when I clean installed windows but they have returned again.

A:BSOD Custom Build

Hi Kimbroughhg.

When there are multiple bugchecks without any finite probable cause, the first impression goes to hardware. Some of the crash dumps also indicates it.

Code:
BugCheck A, {2db, 2, 1, fffff8000229743d}

Probably caused by : hardware ( nt!KiTimerExpiration+1d )

Followup: MachineOwner
---------

Code:
BugCheck 124, {0, fffffa800d268028, b0800000, 40151}

Probably caused by : AuthenticAMD

Followup: MachineOwner
---------
Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Stress test the CPU.
Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

Overclocked? It should be 4000 MHz.

Code:
CP F/M/S Manufacturer MHz
6 21,2,0 AuthenticAMD 4334
As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.

If you have any hardware monitoring program, uninstall them for the time being, and also uninstall all the programs by ASUS.

Two more actions are must.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Let us know the results.

Hi I built a custom computer last summer July and started having some BSOD problems about a month ago It started out when I was playing games Starcraft and Battlefield but then it began crashing to BSOD randomly when I wasn't actively doing anything it would BSOD when I left it on overnight I assumed it was the graphics driver so I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and it worked fine for a couple weeks until it recently started crashing again It is also doing some other strange things like Shockwave crashing in Chrome and requiring a computer restart and Windows Explorer randomly crashing Help custom with BSOD, build System Specs Windows Professional bit Have not reinstalled windows AMD Phenom II X Black GHz Processor ASUS M A T-V EVO Motherboard Corsair XMS RAM Gb sticks Antec High Current Gamer W PSU EVGA GeForce GTX Gb GPU Help with BSOD, custom build Seagate TB Serial Help with BSOD, custom build ATA HD Additionally I ran the Driver Verifier and got a BSOD within minutes of logging in to Windows I booted to safe mode and loaded a system restore point I didn't see the dump file in the minidump folder however I can re-try the Driver Verifier if necessary I plan to run memtest and check the hard drive after this post Thanks in advance for the help

I found a missing bit in some of the registers of your CPU. This can occur from a driver bug, but very unlikely. Most often, this is caused by a malfunctioning CPU. CPU malfunctioning can occur internally (meaning a bad CPU), or externally from a bad motherboard, a bad PSU, or overheating or an unstable overclocked state.

If you have your system overclocked, please immediately reset it to factory defaults. That should be the first thing done to troubleshooting the problem. Then, you'll want to conduct a couple hardware tests:

RAM: Memtest86+ - 7+ passes
CPU: Prime95 - Torture Test; Large FFTs; overnight (9+ hours)

These tests are included in the UBCD if you prefer a Live CD environment (which is the best environment to test hardware on). Note that Prime95 currently does not work on the UBCD. Also, please provide us temps/voltages using HWInfo with Sensors only option checked. Log two 30-minute instances: one for idle, and one for high load.

My custom build PC that I have had for 3 months, now says signal lost on my Samsung SyncMaster T260HD monitor. In the beginning, the monitor would randomly blank and I'd restart and all is good. Then the next day it would do it again. Eventually the time gap shortened. Now it will either not display at all or it will display for 5-10 seconds during startup and then blank. I have tried swapping cables but no luck. All fans are spinning. The rest of the PC still loads because I can hear Win7 logon screen and I can log on and hear the welcome sound.
Graphics card: SAPPHIRE 100284L Radeon HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

If it was bought from a shop then the first thing I would do is take it back to the them as a warranty issue.

If not, things I would check are:

1) Ensure that all the cables and cards are correctly seated inside the case. Remove each one and reseat it securely one at a time.

2) Does the motherboard have any onboard video? If yes, try booting using that.

3) Exactly what make and model is the motherboard, RAM, case, power supply, hard drives etc. Include links to the components if possible. How many case fans does the system have?

4) Do you have, or can you get hold of another, known working, monitor just to test to make sure its not the monitor itself at fault?

5) Do you have, or have access to any other, known working graphics card that will fit in the system?

Its possible the the graphics card has developed a fault, or even had a minor fault when you got it which has got worse.
