I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Personally, if the warranty covers "everything", I'd go that route so I wouldn't VOID the warranty.

Hello community!

I want to start this post by apologizing for capitalizing any future K and Js. So for a few days I've noticed that my J and K Keys weren't responding unless I was capitalizing them with shift. At first, they had some moments when they worKed, and then stopped; but now, the only way to type them in is by capitalizing them.

I went to On-Screen Keyboard because I needed to type a formal letter, only to notice that J and K weren't responding on that virtual Keyboard either, thus why I've come to the Windows 7 section to asK for help.

ThanK you for your time.

try another keyboard to see if it is a keyboard issue or something else. You can also try the keyboard on another computer to see if you have the same problem.

Hi folks. I just had to do a reinstall of my Window's 7 and since have had a problem with 2 keys on my keyboard. When I use the apostrophe key, nothing happens, but when I type something after, it appears. It's no big deal really, but I'm rather anal and it just bugs me when something isn't working right.

I have used search here at SF and gone through the tutorials, but can't find anything that quite matches. I tried to update driver's but the little box on the screen tells me driver's are up to date. I checked Device Manager and it doesn't indicate any problem. I checked Keyboard in Control Panel and it says the device is working properly.

If anyone has any suggestion's I would appreciate hearing them, if not I'll learn to live with it.

Thanks, David

Hi everyone I know I have had this question posted here before and in the end I figured I would just get used to it Wrong It's pushing me past my usual point of insanity To refresh a few weeks ago I did a fresh install Working Not Properly Keyboard Keys On 2 of W and since then keys on my keyboard aren't working properly One key below the Esc button I don't care about but the other is the apostrophe and quotations key When I press this key nothing happens until I hit the space bar then it appears I have checked quot Keyboard 2 Keys On Keyboard Not Working Properly quot in Control Panel it says the keyboard is functioning properly I tried updating driver and have the most up to date driver I tried using the on screen keyboard and it has the same problem I thought of doing another reinstall but that is no guarantee that the keys will be fixed and in fact may affect other keys for all I know Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks David

Turn your keyboard upside down and shake it. Dirt and crumbs get lodged in there.
I also use compressed air and blow dust out. You will be surprised at what comes out of it.

The letters on my netbook NB550D keyboard, F & W, are not working properly. They do not work at all when typing normally however when you tap repeatedly on them they will finally start working. Once they start working, if you tap the key once, you get 2-5 of the letter on the screen instead of one.

The netbook has had very little use and has been well looked after (no food or drink near it, never been subjected to rough handling, etc).

Any advice on what the issue and solution are would be greatly appreciated.

A:Two keys are not working properly on NB550D is not easy to give good advice. What you can try is to remove key cap and check small mechanism placed under the cap and check if something blocks it. Please do it very gently. Small plastic holders can be broken.

I really don't know what else you can do except to exchange the keyboard.

Check you keyboard to see if it has an F-lock button. This should be at the top with an F in a square or something. If you can't find it, check to see if the other F keys work in Word.

A:Home Keys on laptop keyboard disabled/not working properly

firstly I would recommend downloading and installing all of the latest drivers for you laptop. especially any chipset and or ones directly related to the keyboard (most laptop keyboards use default windows ones so theres nothing to update, but laptops with hot keys and multimedia keys tend to use their own)

something else you can do is plug in a usb keyboard and test it, if the same keys on a usb keyboard dont work its not hardware related.
simply googling G7 keyboard throws up hundreds of user complaints so its not exactly a first time event theyve known to fail.

Hey Everyone

Started typing on my internal laptop keyboard today and reliased that mainly keys a b and n were not working.
So I decided to clean them by taking off the key and white holder, then used a cloth to clean all the dust etc.. both under the rubber button and around it. This still didn't work however, so I then decided to uninstall and reinstall the driver as well. However this didn't work either.

Its probably best to try and buy a new one off e-bay, but before I do this does anyone else have any suggestions?

Also interesting, a b and n seems to be a popular combination of keys for other toshiba laptops that don't seem to be working... (Using a USB keyboard atm to type which works fine)

Hello,Having a problem with my laptop keyboard where the hotkey function buttons have suddenly stopped working as they used to. Pressing any of the hot keys results in an f1-12 rather than the previous function of changing volume, toggling keyboard lights and changing brightness etc. This happened around the time of me installing some new drivers for an audio interface so may be related to that. Ive tried going into the BIOS and toggling the hotkey option on and off, and installing hp quick launch software but nothing has worked so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance - C. I have a Commodore Laptop (Argentina) and all the keys that have a FN function attached to them do not work as their normal function any more - this happened after lending the laptop to my kids....

I think it may be FN lock, but can-t find any way to unlock it.

Any ideas please.

Many thanks.

A:Keys that have FN functions on them not working as normal keys

Check the Manual on the model's Support Downloads webpage for key combo to unlock:

Try updating or reinstalling the hotkeys driver from the model's Support Downloads webpage. Driver Install - Device Manager

While there look also for any downloadable fixes for these key functions or related.

It may also be disabled in msconfig>Startup. You can google the listings there to see what they're for. Normally you only need your AV checked and the rest are freeloaders, but some models require hotkey software to be running at startup if it provides anciliiary functions like backlighting, function toggling, etc.

A:speakers not working properly, sound is very low, connected properly, please help!

I think...

1.You may have accidently adjusted you sound configuration settings.
2.You may not have the correct sound Drive (Or none at all). If so check your sound card and browse the web for installable driver (The acctual drivers don't cost anything)

Hi goodlad,

You should try an external keyboard with the system. If external keyboard works fine then you should consider replacing the internal keyboard.

As due to usage and time keys stops responding. However if the similar issue occurs with the external keyboard then it might be a software related issue.

Please check the same and let us know if you require further assistance.

My ex claims he didn't download or spill anything on it. I've run an antivirus and cleaned the keyboard without any luck. It's a Compaq laptop running on windows xp. I wet through the troubleshooting application under the control panel options ad that didn't help. I've taken her apart before so if that's what I need to do the I will. If anyone has dealt with this and can give me any leads I'd appreciate it. Searches are difficult I have to copy ad paste anytime I need to use those keys. Posting this so it was readable took for ever!! Please help me! Sorry if this is the wrong forum. It was the closest I could think of.

Try the keyboard in Safe Mode. If it doesn't work properly there, just get a new one. They're really cheap.

My Lenovo Y40-70 is having a problem with its keyboard. I have to use my virtual onscreen keyboard which is very frustrating. Some keys such as  P, 0, -, =, /, ., are not working. Do I need to change the entire keyboard or is there any possibility of fixing these keys?

Hi, I'm here again

I've noticed that my Fn keys are not working on my Hp laptop.. I searched on hp page for any signs of drivers that could solve it and I found this..

I downloaded it and tried to install but the installation wasn't successful so it's still not working. Does anyone have some experience with it or know how to proceed?
Thank you

A:Fn keys not working

Until we diagnose the problem, try the following:

Do you know when the problem started? If you do, try to do a System Restore to before it began.
System Restore

Also try an SFC/SCANNOW command. If related system files are corrupt or have been deleted, it should be able to fix or replace them.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

A Repair Install will do much the same thing. This is normally for users who can't find a solution to their problem but don't want to do a clean install.
Repair Install

I also read that the Fn keys not working can be a malware problem. If it is, download and install both:
Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET
avast! - Download Free Antivirus software or Internet Security
Avast Free Antivirus - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET
and do a full system scan on both.

Wow, i've noticed that i have made alot of threads recently and im sorry to bother. This time it is about my HP. Some keys dosen't work on the computer(not related to any damage done). I've tried everything. I have tried reseating the keyboard which only made it worse. I couldn't type all the numbers expect 5 and 6. But reseating the keyboard solved a little of the number problem(not entirlely) The numbers that aren't working is 1, 5 and 6. The letters i can't type is Q, A, and Z. I've tried alot of tutorials, disabled numlock(via registry because numlock turned on automatic and i don't even have numlock on my keyboard). Please help me im desprete, i haven't used my HP for along time because of this problem.

P.S Sorry if i typed alot of things wrong, i have a very strong headache.

Sounds like you will need a new keyboard. Try the on screen keyboard and another keyboard. If laptop hook up an external keyboard do they work.

A:F2, F3,F5 keys not working.

Hey @mohanj2787, Welcome to the HP Forums! I read your post and wanted to reach out to help you! In your post, you had said that currently your HP 15-ac149tx Notebook will not install the AMD driver.  Here is a link to your product page. You system came with Intel 5500 HD graphics not AMD. So you need to uninstall the AMD from your Device Manager.  You could try: In the Device Manager, click the arrow next to Display Adapters to expand that category. Right-click on Graphics and select Update Driver Software. Choose the option to Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software. The Notebook should find and automatically install the updated driver. After the installation is complete, restart your Notebook. You could try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows. This is a download that will run a check on your system and usually repair it. Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed!  Please get back to me how this goes. If this post helps you to resolve the issue you can click the Thumbs up icon to show gratitude! Please click the Accept as Solution, to the right of the Thumbs up icon, if your issues is resolved.  Thanks.

Hey there @hpineedsupport! Welcome to HP forums!                     I understand that some of the keys are not functioning on your laptop. Please try few steps recommended below. Turn off the computer and then restart it.Press the Esc key repeatedly to see if a startup menu opens. If a setup menu does not open, the integrated keyboard hardware is not working. The integrated keyboard in the notebook should be serviced or replaced. To continue using the notebook, connect a USB-wired keyboard to a USB port and restart the computer. If a setup menu opens, use the arrow keys to navigate the menus. If these keys are working in the startup menu, but then fail when Windows loads, the problems might be related to the keyboard software.Restart the computer. In Device Manager, uninstall and reinstall the keyboard software:In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.Click View and select Show Hidden Devices.Click the arrow next to Keyboards, right-click the keyboard device name, then select Uninstall to remove the device from Windows.Continue removing device names in the Keyboards category until all device names have been uninstalled.Restart the notebook. A:Fn+F4 keys not working PLZ HELP ME

Hiya devmgmt.

You`re better off drying out the keyboard so that it works properly rather than trying to find a work-around for it and if it WAS just water, that shouldn`t be a problem. The advantage of removing the keyboard is that you can check inside the shell for other possible water damage as well.

The design of each laptop is slightly different but as a general rule, the bezel between the screen and the keyboard unclips and gives you access to three or four small screws that hold the keyboard assembly. After unscrewing the aforementioned screws, look out for a ribbon or wires underneath the keyboard that connect it to the main body and that bit should pull or unclip somehow, therefore releasing the keyboard for further stripping down and/or drying out etc etc.

Dear Sir  Welcome to Lenovo Community We can try 2 small simple steps :1 - i believe your battery non removable so please turn off your machine, remove the charger, press & hold the power button for 15 seconds then plug the charger & power on your device. ( now try your mal function keys if they are working or no, if no so please go to the next step.2 - try an external keyboard, if the same malfunction keys not working on the external keyboard as well so its software or settings issue but if its working well so 100% its hardware issue from your machine keyboard so in this case you should deliver your device to the nearest service center. Kindly find the phone number of Lenovo Call center in your country in the below link: Please tell me what happened after Best Of Luck

Hi rafa_mota04 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Would you have the machine number? Check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential.
Would onscreen keyboard and external USB keyboard work?
You can try setting the defaults in the BIOS (exit tab) then save and exit and recheck.
If still the same check the numbers 5 and 6 in the BIOS if working ( security password would allow you to type but do not save since it is just a test) .
Update us how it goes.

I was sent an e-mail by a good friend that had a link in it.
I usually don't go to links anymore. Today I did.
When I clicked on the link, nothing happened,
but after that all my keys started acting funny.
My caps key was a "regular" key, and my regular key
was a caps. When I tried to open up a document,
I got a "tiled" screen that listed my programs differently.
They were there, but in another order then I usually see.
I tried a restore, but it was blinking.
I did a safe mode restore, and it looks like everything is ok now.
When I got out of word when it was acting up, it wanted to
over write "NORMAL.DOT", of course I didn't let that happen.

Heard of something like that before?

This is really random. The keys are messing up. They either won't work or type double. I can only presume it's a virus. I've tried to gain access to my password protected user account via my guest account but I can't type the password in because of the way it's messing up. I want to use windows defender to try to sort it out.

What can I do to sort this?

Ctrl + F8 works and Alt + F8 works.
F10 is not working properly, two presses give one response.
F11 and F12 sometimes work and sometimes not.
Since I have tried another keyboard and the problem is the same,
so this should not be a hardware problem.
The system is Windows 7.
I have tried restoring it to a few days before, but that didn't help.
I looked around, closed all other applications,
trying to find any software that might have a hot key.
But if it is a hot key conflict, then it shouldn't affect F10, F11 and F12.

I have put the problem to sony support and they have raised a further problem .The notebook is running vista ultimate 32 bit but ,according to the serial no.,sony says it was sold with a vista ultimate business operating system .Becauseof this they are unable to help further.
I would really like to remove vista ultimate and replace it with vista home premium .This os is running perfectly on my other sony laptop .Can you advise if this is feasible and ,if so , how do I go about it ?
Alternatively will any of the "repair ,boot and recover discs " help with this fault ?

If the laptop has a recovery partition, you can revert the OS back to the factory default OS. Or, the laptop may come with Recovery disks. You can also buy the Recovery disks from the manufacturer sometimes.

Can anyone advise on how to get @ and £ signed to work on laptop. I have changed the language option in Control panel but get " instead of @ sign. I can get @ by holding shift and 2 but it is not satisfactory.

its a long story with other posts here but after the recovery to fix the mail and people tiles which kept reverting back when trying to type, everything was OK until I went to download updates from HP 1Gb worth and then restarting the computer to find I had no wireless recognition, and it seems the downloads didn't download. after a long session with HP and a system restore to before this fiasco, the wireless is back working, but when playing solitaire the fn and z won't let me undo which is a nuisance. also I now have the annoying red alert from the HP assistant wanting me to download. The HP customer help has said don't download all these updates. what a mess

The system may have a program like Dell's "Quickset" which sets the function for the Fn key combos. I don't remember what HP calls this, you just have to read trhe program descriptions, and download the appropriate controls.

I opened up my laptop today and bizarrely my media keys (F1-F6) aren't functioning as they previously had. I can't change song, mute the laptop, change the volume or anything using these keys and was curious to know if anyone else was having this problem and, if so, knew a solution?

After install of RP 8, most of my fn key are not functioning properly or that when pressed they don't show on the screen as it did with 7.

A:fn keys not working on laptop

That is quite weird if assuming you already installed its native application. I found most of my laptops (ASUS, Fujitsu, and Toshiba) have their fn keys just work when the appropriate chipset driver were installed, even before its native fn application is installed, of course lacking the fn animations. Two of them are running Win 8.

Have you tried reinstalling drivers? Who knows it resolves the matter? Just my poor guess.

Previously reported this problem and marked as solved because it temporarily went away but it came back. The /, *, -, 4, 5, 6, ., and 0 keys don't work. I really can't figure out what to do, this has happened throughout multiple system  updates and countless reboots. I have no idea what to do about this problem. I previously thought it was caused by the Nox app player, and after uninstalling that it appeared to go away but the problem is back now so that doesn't appear to be the case.

A:Some of my laptop keys are not working

hello raj, This is quite common in laptops well it was with mine.

I found out that the problem was cause by crumbs below the keys. but it is really easy to fix. It could also be caused by the key bracket.

place a flat head screwdriver or your finger nail, at the corner of the key, And apply a little upward pressure they key should pop offf.

Have a look for any crumbs ect, wobble the bracket to see if this helps.

To re-apply they key just place it on top of the bracket and push down until you hear a click.

Let me know if this helpde.

my daughter spilled drink on my laptop last night, wiped it up immediately. gave it plenty of time to dry out and restarted it. it beeps a lot and stays at the "press f2 for bios" screen for a really long time. my semantics touch pad randomly turns off and when i'm typing the cursor hops around the form and i have to keep moving it back to the end of the sentence. other than that it's completely functional.

are there any easy remedied for this? it's really annoying.

A friend has a laptop (no idea what sort) and phoned me to say the three keys all in a diagonal line 3 e and d did not work. I have loaned him a separate keyboard and that works, but I wonder if anyone has any ideas as to why three keys have stopped working. I will pass on any avice to him that you may have. I have suggested turning the laptop upsidedown to try to dislodge anytng that might be stuck.

Some friend had suggested that it might be a circuit board problem. Do you think that is likely?

A:keys 3 E and D not working on laptop

Keyboard may have gotten wet, or the internal contacts dirty. He should replace the keyboard. I just did one for a HP, it was about $16.00 on E-bay.

Press the power button and then immediately begin tapping the F2 key to invoke the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility.   Use the put the cursor on component tests and then at the next screen select keyboard. Perform the keyboard test. Connect a USB keyboard to an available port on the notebook to see if the same keys are still working.  If they are, consider that someone with access to the notebook may have spilled a sticky liquid on the keyboard.
