Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

Q: Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

Using Windows 7, my wireless works great in the vicinity of the router, but slows down and will not load some sites when 30+ feet away from the router. The signal strength is excellent. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Okay you may need to check around your router to first see if there are any mirrors really close. These can deflect the wireless rays therefore decreasing signal strength.

Your second option if this fails, is too purchase a WIFI-Repeater or booster.

I have added a webpage below and if you wish too purchase any of these simply google them (Maybe amazon, ebay etc.).

Anyone have an idea?

A:Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

It creates a virtual wireless card, making windows think that instead of one, you have two or more cards installed on your system. Keep in mind though, that the maximum bandwidth of your wireless card will be splitt when using this. It lets you connect to more then one wireless network at a time. For instance, an Ad-Hoc network and an Access Point at the same time. An access point and a wireless printer at the same time.

hi there guys,

Win 7 Ultimate 64bit...

i would like to know why the Wireless Connection gets weird numbers, i believe it has a reference with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter....

i mean, device manager it says #7 and #8 but from the task manager it says #8 and #9...

not a massive annoyance but what if i wanted to rename them to 1 and 2? it would make me happier..

please see attached screen caps. PC works great, i can totally live with it, but well, just to have things "the right way", if is easy i wouldnt mind to fix it...

thanks
Gab

If you are familiar with regedit, open it and go to key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}\Descriptions

where xxxx is, I think, a system-specific CLSID number. You will find the names of the network interfaces there, with all the ###s. You can edit them there by clicking modify.

I found this quaint sounding entry in Device Manager (among network adapters) with driver dated 2006. Recommended update online search found one update but with a red lettered warning that I should not install it. So I cancelled.

What is this device? And do I need it?

A:Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter....???

Its purpose is to create a mobile hotspot using your Wireless NIC. For example, you have a 4G/3G USB device that lets you get internet access or you have a LAN (Ethernet) connection and you want to share the internet from your USB stick or LAN by making your laptop as a portable hotspot. You use the "Wireless Hosted Network" feature built-in to Windows to configure the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" to host a portable hotspot on your laptop. You then configure your 3G/4G connection to share the internet to "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter"

Now any device can connect to your laptop (portable hotspot) and get internet access.

I have a problem
It started as such; My Connectify stopped working all of a sudden , I uninstalled it and reinstalled a newer version
but the installation stops everytime while 'installing driver software'
So I headed to Device manager , and I found "Microsoft virtual wireless miniport adapter" with a yellow triangular sign beside it , So i tried to update this driver , but everytime I try , this keeps appearing to me:
"Windows found the software for you device but encountered an error while attempting to install it: The data is invalid"
This is driving me crazy because  I have been searching the internet for an effective solution and I found none till know
Any help?

Months ago I found second microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter in my Network adapters. I don't know how it appears (hotfix, new driver???).
This week I reinstalled my laptop and microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter is gone. I try everything to get it back: new drivers from Dell, new drivers from Microsoft, Windows Update with all of updates etc. Nothing helped.
I use Windows 7 Ultimate x64, laptop is Dell Vostro 1700, physical WiFi is Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini Card.
How can I get back my microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter??

As far as I understand it's "native" to Windows 7.

You may just need to "enable" it in network adapter settings.

Hi guys,

I'm pulling my hair out on this one; hopefully you can help me. I'm trying to create a virtual wifi AP using the Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter and the netsh wlan command line context, but it's giving me a headache.

"netsh wlan show drivers" in the command line includes the output line "Hosted network supported: Yes" so my wireless card should be supported, correct? I can setup the hostednetwork fine with "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=blah key=blah" but when I try to start it with "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" I get the following output:

"The hosted network couldn't be started. The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation."
My network adapter is a Rosewill RNX-N1 which contains a Ralink 2870 chipset (that chipset has been confirmed to support hostednetwork).

Any suggestions?

A:Errors with starting Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter

I can't say what the problem might be but the link below shows two methods for setting up a hosted wireless network. You can also try the link for connectify software which is just a user interface that makes it easier for some people.

It's important to note that a hosted wireless network is made to share a wireless connection with other wireless devices.

The hosted wireless network isn't made to share out through an Ethernet connection in any way shape or form, though it may be possible to do so you may end up with an unreliable network and there are no standard tutorials to set that up.

I recently installed an internet sharing program which utilizes the connected wireless internet and shares it within the same wireless card.

After installing the program, I noticed that Wifi Miniport adapter had been installed. I had this driver prior to my system reset but i had constant problems with it.

I have the same problems again and apparently, the program needs wifi miniport adapter to be working properly to work itself.
It has an error (a yellow triangle an with exclamation on it) and that code number is 10, (The device cannot start)

On the program's website, it recommended to just disable and reenable and then the exclamation will go away. But it didn't. I tried updating the driver, and windows update found a driver (unsigned though) but it cannot install the driver because the device cannot start.

So it doesn't update because of its original error. (it cannot start)

Any suggestions on getting Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter properly working?

First off any external package that purports to add access point functionality to Windows 7 is quackery pure and simple. It's a built-in feature and always has been. Uninstall the rogue software, report it's name here and destroy the miniport it created from an elevated command prompt thusly:

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

Now set the wlan hostednetwork SSID and WPA2-PSK/AES passphrase or key and start the wlan hostednetwork thusly:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=<my_ssid> key=<my_key>
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
netsh wlan show hostednetwork

Pitfalls:

1) ad hoc networking MUST be disabled on the wireless adapter
2) a Hosted Network capable wireless adapter is installed in the local computer. The driver for the wireless adapter must implement the wireless LAN device driver model defined by Microsoft for use on Windows 7. To receive the Windows 7 logo, a wireless driver must implement the wireless Hosted Network feature.
3) network connection sharing for use by other computers and devices requires the use of Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).

and if you want to turn it back on netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ? then netsh wlan start hostednetwork (without the question mark!)

Hello,

I have been using my desktop for about 3 months now and suddenly within the last week a new connection appeared in my control panel described as "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter". Normally I wouldn't care about a benign excess connection, but I suspect it is the reason the network connection icon in my taskbar shows that I am disconnected, despite having access to the internet:

When I click "uninstall" in the properties menu the connection is still there when the computer reboots. I know that it can be used as a virtual hotspot but I currently have no use for this as I have a non-mobile desktop and a wireless router already. If anyone knows of a better use for this or how to disable it so that it no longer interferes with my taskbar icon (simply disabling the connection doesn't work ) it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

You can turn off the virtual WiFi service by running the following commands in an elevated command prompt. This should get rid of the connection on the adaptor page as well.

no quotes> "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" hit enter after, then use this command "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow" hit enter again.

I'm trying to print wireless from my laptop to my Canon printer, but it say the printer is offline.  When I go into my drivers, it says there is an issue with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Adapter #2.  Also, I'm getting a message in my Network Connections under my LAN that the network cable is unplugged.  Are these things related?  We had to replace our modem because we were getting spotty wireless connection.  We did some troubleshooting with the CenturyLink tech, but got everything plugged back in properly, and now with the new modem, our wireless devices are working better than ever.  Other than this printer issue.  Any thoughts?  It's driving me crazy!

A:Unable to update driver for Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

I would advise right clicking on the device that has the excalamation point and choosing "Uninstall", then select the check box to delete the driver software as well. Reboot and see if Windows detects and tries to install the software again, if not you can:
1) Go the the manufactuers website to get the drvier
2) Use the driver CD - if you got one for that device

NOTE - If this is for your wifi adapter, you will need to connect your computer to the router with an ethernet cable to get the driver from the web.

How do I permanantly remove this pos from my laptop? It's giving me errors, when I hit the wireless button (to enable/disable) on the laptop half the time it disables the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter, not my laptops wireless, I can't connect to
APs properly with it running, takes 5 or 6 tries of disabling everything and reenabling.

Didnt have a single issue until this was installed secretly on my machine.

MS post proper solution to PERMANANTLY remove this useless device that just breaks everything.

A:Uninstall Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter Permanantly

I finally found out how to uninstall the microsoft wifi miniport adapter its so easy all you do is go to the command prompt as a admin and type this "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" with no quotes.
than type this "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow"  also no quotes. at first i thought this was disabling it same as right clicking and disable but actually it disables the service and the microsoft
wifi miniport is gone. for some reason its mode gets set to allow instated of disallow  and when you uninstall it it reappears and messes up the networking, example, printers, wifi routers, etc.
theres no way to uninstall it because it part of windows 7 for sharing wifi. IT WORKS TRY IT.
its not a bug in windows 7. wow

Just reinstall your Windows 7 approved wireless drivers and the Virtual mini port adaptor will reinstall with the drivers automatically.

The drivers do need to be Windows 7 approved in order to have the Virtual mini port adaptor which is only used to set up a hosted wireless network.

You should be able to turn on DHCP the same way that you can on a regular NIC. Go to the Network and Sharing Center, then look left to "Change Adaptor Settings" and click that, highlight and right click the Virtual adaptor and choose properties, then right click TCP/IPv4, choose properties again, make sure that the upper dot is set to "Obtain an IP address Automatically, same for DNS.

I just bought a brand new Asus K52F and when the laptop goes into sleep mode the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter & WiFi Miniport Adapter #2" fail. When i turn the computer back on i have trouble connecting to the internet, and the devices have error (code 43). I can still connect to the internet though. I have re-downloaded the drivers, rolled them back, updated them, everything but it hasn't worked. Any help would be sweet.

Also can anyone tell me what the white light up button next to the power button does??

A:WiFi Miniport Adapter/Adapter #2 Error

The virtual wifi mini port adaptor is used as a virtual wifi device so you can turn your machine into a wireless AP "access point" either with commands or the connectify software. The adaptor sometimes activates itself and causes problems, even when your not using it as an access point.

It should fix the problem if you go into device manager, go to "view" top of page, then choose "show hidden devices" which should allow you to see the mini port, disable the virtual mini port adaptor and that should fix the problem.

That little button next to the power button is a reset button, it's like restarting but a little different.

Hi everyone!

I have encountered the following problem with internet sharing: after using virtual miniport adapter to share my internet connection, when I want to shut down the pc, it won't. Just a BSOD.

When the connection is not shared, it works fine, no BSOD. But I need to share my connection to my girlfriends tablet.

I am connected to a free hotspot via a TP-Link TL-Wn7200ND ver 1.0 adapter and I have shared this connection using the Microsoft virtual miniport adapter. Everything works fine, till the moment I try to shut down the laptop. The system tries to shut down, but after 6 or 7 minutes it restars itself and get the message that an error occurred.

As requested, I attach the result of the sf diagnostic tool.

I don't know much about computers but from everything Ive read you can uninstall or go to cmd and enter codes to get this adapter to stop working.  I went to device manager and disabled it.  When I go to system information, components, network
and look at my adapters it is enabled.  I started cmd, followed instructions here and disabled it.  After reboot I couldn't connect to the internet.  It said correct driver not installed.  I thought you could connect to the network from
the laptop without this adapter.  Am I misunderstanding something?  Can someone please help?  Like I said, I know nothing about computers.  I just want to connect to our network and internet without using this.

Everyone's had the problem of wanting to disable the wifi miniport, or enable it to share wifi.

I have a different problem. I would like to change which wireless device the wifi miniport uses, as the external USB wireless adapter I was using died. I cannot see the wifi miniport adapter without that device attached, it seems. I don't even know if the wifi adapter even as options to select which wireless card to use even if I could get it to appear.

Is there a way to do this without having to resort to reinstalling Windows 7?

I am fairly familiar with netsh. No command line option seems to be available to switch network adapters for the wifi miniport.

It also appears that it will simply not switch to the only wireless network adapter detected, and I know it will host a virtual wifi network, I've done ICS/AdHoc before.

A:How does one change which wifi adapter the wifi miniport uses?

I tried the solution in this link: How to change default Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport adapter?

This did not work.

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with a recent problem I ran into. My wifi router broke down and I thought as a workaround, use my laptop as a temporary wifi hotspot until I can purchase a new one. I was able to share my LAN connection but cannot pass the Internet access thru my ad-hoc. I found out that I need to enable the MS Virtual Wifi Miniport to be able to accomplish that. The BSOD happened right after enabling that adapter. I tried rebooting into safe mode where I disabled both my wifi adapter and the miniport. Re-installed the wifi adapter but BSOD recurred when I try to enable the miniport. Any suggestions?
EDIT: I have posted an updated file. Apparently, the process took some time and not all files were present upon posting. My bad.

A:no virtual wifi adapter or any device found in my laptop

This particular modem should have a wireless adapter. Try opening
Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre > on the left side there is "Change Adapter Settings", click on it > Your wireless adapter should be there. Right click it, and enable if need to do so.

If you don't see any wireless adapter, then update us further and if possible also a screen-shot of that window.

I have succesfully used a Hyper-V virtual switch connected to the wireless adapter in my longer Hyper-V virtual switch adapter in Wifi no supported laptop All my VM's could access my LAN independently and could get an ip address from the DHCP server This means AFAIK that my wireless adapter can and does opererate in promiscuous mode This worked up to build Today I upgraded to build and this setup no longer works It appears that wifi adapters are simply not supported with Hyper-V virtual switches Bummer When you try to configure a wifi adapter in a virtual switch it is not simply grayed out or otherwise made impossible but it tries to go ahead and then gives an error message Wifi adapter no longer supported in Hyper-V virtual switch see attachment This does not make sense There is no other bridge or switch configured I found two work-arounds - configure the wired ethernet adapter to the virtual switch and create a bridge connection between the wired and the wifi adapters For me this does not work because I get an other error trying to create the bridge connection which I will report in an other thread - use ICS This works but has the huge disadvantage of having a NAT layer between the VM's and the rest of my network Has anyone experimented with this too Bart

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

A:Microsoft Tun Miniport Adapter cannot start

Try this:

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

If you right click it in device manager it should give you an uninstall option, uninstall and on reboot it should try to pick it up again. You may need to reinstall or update drivers from manufacturer website.

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums .. This device is just a virtual device and it should not affect connecting the wireless network with the physical wireless adapter... Go to the Device Manager Click on Network Adapters to check which one you have as there are two on the HP Website .. Then download the one you need ..

Hya all i have upgraded windows 8pro and Rt to 8.1pro and 8.1RT everything went smoothly and is running very well however there does seem to be a problem with the Hyper V-networking miniport Default adapter driver Which states it cannot load and
gives me an error 39 Now from what ive read this is a very sensitive drive that could have been corrupted when i upgraded from the previous os but as yet i havnt found any solutions to the problem, can someone please help me to resolve this issue and or has
microsoft updated the driver for this device, any thoughts would be gratefully recieved.

A:Hyper V -Network miniport adapter driver cannot load error 39

Hi,
Generally speaking, the error code 39 means Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. You can try to reinstall it for test.
To add a network adapter in Hyper-v, I would like to refer to the link below for more details.

Okay, I'll take a guess here. Either AVG is reporting a false positive or something remote is attempting to access your PC without your permission. I believe it is more of the latter. If I am not mistaking there is a forum here that deals with removal of PC infections.

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

Hi Ron, Welcome to Sevenforums.

Try this to start

Control Panel > Administration Tools > Computer Management > Services & Applications > Services.

Scroll down this list to find 'WLAN Auto Config'

Double click on 'WLAN Auto Config' On the general tab, select from the start up type drop down menu, select 'Automatic'. Under Service Status click on 'Start'. Then 'Apply' these settings and exit from all open control panel windows.

This should then allow Windows to set the required bindings.

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)

I have a HP Notebook 15. I restarted my laptop this morning and when it came back on, all options for connecting to the internet via WiFi were gone. I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, and everything works this way. There are no options whatsoever to connect to WiFi or reset the connection or anything, however the WiFi itself is working because other devices in the house are connected to it. I followed a HP technical support online page, which provided step-by-step instructions of various ways to reconnect to WiFi but nothing worked. I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?

So, there are many articles out there that will show you how to use cmd prompt to create a wifi hotspot (eg: this article Internet Connection Sharing - Create WiFi HotSpot)

However, is there anyway to do this with TWO separate wifi adapters? That is, use one adapter to connect to your router and the other to act as the router? Some articles seem to indicate this is the ideal setup but no one seems to specify how to control which wifi adapter is used to create the wifi hostpot in command prompt.

Thanks for any help.

If I can get the basics to work, the next step is to try to integrate a VPN so that I can basically use my PC as a VPN router (but with no physical ethernet connection).

Actually my wifi adapter can catch all other wifi signal except my wifi router.

A:my notebook wifi adapter don't get my wifi router

There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.

can you connect the pc directly to the router with a cable and then
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

if you get an error - You will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

Hello,

In my host machine I find there is a Net adapter(1394), a Braodcom NetLink (TM) Fast Ethernet and wireless card.

However in my virtual machine I only find a Intel 21140-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter.

What is the possible reason for this?
Thanks.

A:Virtual PC Network Adapter

That's because Virtual PC emulates a standard NIC and passes the requests through. This is what you should see.

I have an old application that I can no longer get support for from a defunct publisher that uses a license key that is tied to a MAC address. I've been using it for years under XP with a Virtual NIC driver that allowed me to specify the MAC address of the Virtual NIC. The Driver is freeware and works flawlessly under Windows XP, and it seems I even successfully deployed it at one time under Windows 7.

Does anyone know of a Virtual NIC that works with Windows 8 other than the MS Loopback adapter which doesn't allow MAC virtualization. Or a way to force install the old VirtNet adapter under 8?

Thanks

A:Virtual NIC (Not Loopback Adapter)

If you have Win 8 Pro, you can set up a Windows XP virtual machine in Hyper-V and manually assign a MAC to the vNIC.

Long story short I recently started working from home due to some health problems My problem is that I live about miles out of town in the middle of nowhere we have to pipe in the sunlight After years of living here we finally got a landline type internet connection instead of either satellite which scores no better than dial-up at twice the price of fiber optic or tethering our cell phones Requirements for accessing the company website software adapter for usb tethering Looking virtual a for is being hard Looking for a virtual adapter for usb tethering lined to the modem Mbps Download and Mbps upload my connection is averaging - Mbps download and - upload Our tech support suggested quot bridging quot for lack of a better word basically leaving both the wireless and wired connections on coming off my one router After thinking about it I just don't see getting any more speed that way but if I was to add a cellular tether on top of the regular ISP speed it just might push me up close enough that I can work without being kicked off the system because my speed just isn't fast enough For about a year and a half before getting AT amp T U-verse we turned off the satellite internet and just tethered the cell phones which was faster more stable and even cheaper than satellite so tethering isn't a big deal My question comes down to what can I do to hard line to the modem router which is required and run the wireless to the modem router plus usb tethering my phone Or am I looking for something that doesn't exist and just need to hard line then wifi the phone Any other options or ideas I can get will be greatly appreciated

A:Looking for a virtual adapter for usb tethering

Don't they offer a 3G modem for their service ? That's usually faster and more efficient than tethering a phone.

I use fixed IPs on my home network real Win than virtual rather 8 adapter using all in the X range so was a bit surprised - and concerned - when Teamviewer on a 'connected to' system was reporting a connection from As all machines on the LAN have Teamviewer set to accept only LAN connections and Win 8 using virtual adapter rather than real as did not look like any of my LAN systems I had to get to the bottom of it Running ipconfig all on the 'connecting' system revealed that was in fact the IP of a VMWare Player virtual Ethernet adapter so Win was using that rather than the installed Ethernet adapter address I'm unsure whether this is a Teamviewer issue a VMWare issue or a Win one but booting into Win where VMWare Player is also installed and connecting via Teamviewer to another system on the LAN the receiving system was correctly reporting the connecting IP as All system are using the same versions of WMWare Player and Teamviewer so I think the finger is probably pointing at Win - but I really ain't sure

A:Win 8 using virtual adapter rather than real

I had something similar, but with a virtual adapter bridged with Hyper-V. It is described as a virtual switch. It is currently disabled.
In recent Windows versions, there are a slew of virtual network adapters, and goodness knows what most of them are there for. Perhaps someone knowledgeable can elucidate...?

Does anyone have this device on their system?

This is different than the Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter that sometimes pops up. And there does not appear to be info about this adapter when searching the internets.

If I uninstall it, it just comes back. Disabling does not seem to cause any errors and that's what I've done for the moment.

Just wondering how it got added.

A:Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter

It most likely installed with your drivers for the wireless connection. I'm not sure why it installed WIFI direct virtual adaptor rather than the Msoft WIFI virtual mini port adaptor.

The mini port adaptor can cause connection problems on some systems unless it's disabled.

You should be able to uninstall it completely by following the link below.

Could anybody please help me how I can get to this dialogue in w7?

I need to add a virtual Network Adapter (Microsoft Loopback Adapter), but all I can do is to get to a "waiting for connected devices" dialogue... Is there any way to manually add some device in w7?

A:Adding virtual network adapter

Hi,
I think you can't do that in device manager anymore.
Instead, you might try this one: The DevCon command-line utility functions as an alternative to Device Manager

Simply download & unpack. Then open a command line in the i386 or ia64 folder of the tool. For your purpose running

Code:
devcon.exe install %windir%\inf\netloop.inf *msloop
should do the trick.
You should then see output similar to this:
Device node created. Install is complete when drivers are updated...
Updating drivers for *msloop from C:\WINDOWS\inf\netloop.inf.
Drivers updated successfully.

Now the adapter is ready to configure/use.

Greetings,

There are two "Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Adapters" seen in Device Manager ............ one says the device was deleted in October of 2014. The other oneis called "Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2" and though enabled says it is disconnected and must be connected. I have no idea how to do this. Also, an acquaintance of mine, who also has Win 8.1, "sees" a second Microsoft Wi-Fi adapter called "Microsoft Hosted Network Vlirtual Adapter" and also a "Hyper-v Virtual Ethernet Adapter #2" He sees these when he does a ipconfig/all and I do not.

Any ideas on how to "connect" the device and thoughts on the "missing" objects ?

Best Wishes,

Rick

A:Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter, etc

Those will be activated when you create a virtual machine. Nothing you can use on the 'real' system.

open your network and sharing center
click set up a new connection or network
then click the last option "set up a wireless ad hoc (pc to pc) network

and then connect other devices like other laptops, ps3, xbox 360, wii, and more.
