I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Any more information from the ipconfig? You're not even showing as having an IP address unless you chose to leave that information out.

A:Laptop (Realtek RTL8187 USB Wireless Lan Utility) will not connect to internet

I had a problem with my son's laptop after downgrading from Vista to XP. It also has a Realtek RTL8187B. Device Manager showed the wireless adapter working, but was unable to find any networks. Turning on the Wireless switch on the laptop did not work.

After about a month, I read the manual again (carefully this time). It says to press the Fn key together with the F2 key to enable the wireless radio. After I pressed both keys together, it worked.

I bought an IdeaWorks Long range wifi antenna. It says its windows 7 compatible. Its a USB 2.0 device. I have USB 3.0 and when I plug this device in all it does is connect/disconnect in a 2 second loop... on...off...on...off..
Turning off the selective power saving in the advanced usb power scheme options makes it totally not connect. I've tried every driver I can download! I kept it too long to return it please help!

I doubt you'll add an internal antenna. If you feel the need, you probably want to consider either a ExpressCard or USB adapter with provisions for an external antenna.

The wifi antenna button on my keyboard (aka F12) is supposed to turn the wifi antenna on or off.  It has done that successfully for a couple of years.  It now turns that airplane mode on or off.  I haven't been able to turn on my wifi since that happened.  I can't turn the wifi on with the sliding switch either.  This may have happened when I upgraded to Windows 10, but I am not sure.  There was about a month between the upgrade and the next time that I tried to use wifi.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I need a replacement for the WiFi antenna that screws into the card in my HP Computer.

I note two similar antennas, one rated at 5 decibel gain vs. 8 decibel gain. In there any benefit for the higher decibel gain for WiFi basically reception and some upload (i.e. email). The building that I live in has WiFI Routers.

They appear to have the standard reverse-SMA connector, so I suspect all of them are compatible. If you have a point-to-point situation, the directional antenna with the highest gain is the best choice. It doesn't matter what the style is, it's the gain that determines the amount of improvement in signal strength.

Hi;

I'm looking for a better antenna system for my D-Link DI-624 router and D-Link WIFI PCI card.

Perhaps it would be best to improve the antenna on the PC, not the router, since I don't really want to broadcast my WIFI signal outside of the house (I am using standard 128 bit encryption).

Perhaps a directional antenna is what I need.

Can anyone suggest one?

Thanks

A:Wifi antenna configuration

Hello,

Does your Wi-Fi antenna have higher dBi which is also called high gain antenna? Anything higher than 7dBi might be doable and possibly you may get a great signal from your college Wi-Fi network. I'm sure that it's detachable or removable so that you may upgrade it to a higher dBi, please check this out.

can you please give me a recommendation on a good card, that meets these requirements:
1. at least G standart, if possible, N.
2. supports BackTrack (AirCrack, Airodump etc.) and monitoring mode.
3. good range and power.
I thought on anything from here:

I have had a problem connecting to the wireless networks at my school bc I can barely get a signal. I am using an internal wireless card. I have read that I would get better reception if I used a high gain external antenna.
My question is what adapter cable would I need to connect the antenna (rf cable) to the two little connectors on my internal wireless card? and what kind of range improvement could I expect with a 7.5 dbi antenna?

What I am curious about is am I able to make more than one of these and somehow connect them so as they act as one in a type of "flower mount" effect? Or would the signals interfere with each other and cancel everything out? I am trying to extend my reach of the antenna that came with the card basically. Any ideas? Thanks.

Can someone explain to me the diff between a TNC and SMA connector in a wifi antenna? A company has asked that I change out all of their wifi access points with new linksys AP's they purchased. The current AP's have a antenna connected with a cable. The cable looks similar to a standard COAX cable, but smaller. The connector is also smaller.

When I remove the standard antenna from the linksys, the plug is too large for the current cable.

I belive that I need a TNC to SMA adaptor, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know? Also, can the connectors be purchased at a hardware/electronics store, or is online the best place?

A:Wifi Antenna (TNC vs SMA Adaptor)

This is the TNC connector.

Here's the SMA Connector.

Note the subsection for the SMA specification that specifies the Reverse SMA, which is commonly used for most WiFi equipment antennas.

Hello, My T420 has a hard time competing for bandwidth and I need to either replace the antenna or upgrade it.  I could use some advice on this and I thank Y'all in advance for your expertise. On my hotspot, connectivity is great.  I am the only user with the occasional visitor connecting with a mobile device.  However, at a friend's, my T420 can connect, but browsing is painfully slow.  There are five devices connected into friend's router:  1-apple TV; 2-iphone 5; 3-iphone 6S; 4-ipad; and, 5-Lenovo ThinkPad T420. I am aware that the stronger/est antennae captures the bandwidth.  So, at friend's location and when connecting to public wifi, I need a stronger antenna, it seems.  Please adivse.  Thank you.

A:WiFi antenna on T420

If your antenna works at your hotspot, it works.  It cannot be upgraded, it is simply wires running around the outside of the lid.

If it also is VERY slow at your friends heavily loaded router, it is probably just that the internet connection is overloaded

I have purchased a new ac router and a new ac pci-e network card (Asus).

My setup before this purchase was this, pci-e 802.11n with two antenna connectors. Each connector has a 30 ft Wifi extension cable leading to two simple yagi antennas mounted outside. This has been working just fine for several years.

My new ac network card has 3 connectors.

Do you think that I could just buy another 30 ft extension cable and another antenna like the ones I already have. Should it work?

The reason I am inquiring is the antennas are advertised as 2.4 ghz. AC standard will be in the 5 ghz band.

Shouldn't the cable and antennas use whatever ghz I am working with?

Thanks

Good evening all:
The question I have is:
We spend about 5-6 months a year in a motorhome, and have access to wifi service in the rv parks. I want to know if a wireless router could be used with an outdoor antenna when we are on the road then taken into the house and used with a dsl modem when we are in the house.
If this is possible, could one of you recommend brand/model that is not too expensive but would do the job.
Thanks so much in advance.

i have been reading on the forums and there seems to be alot of mixed information on plug in wifi antennas for win7 as far as what will work and what wont. the most common thing ive been reading is that many cant get the drivers to work with their antenna. i would like an antenna for our girls laptops when we visit the grandparents that reaches out to the pool house...about 150 ft away. i know they have a "G" router and although the girls pick up a signal..its very weak and drops often. id like one of the smaller plug in usb types that is not on a long usb cord or anything. is there one that is recommended that will work for certain with windows 7 32 bit? price is not as important as performance. thanks for your input.

A:best usb wifi antenna for win7 32bit?

Using an USB adaptor with an antenna may not be enough for that range. I can't really make an accurate prediction about which USB antenna to use because certain ones work better with different routers and the drivers come into play also.

It may help to get one from the same company as the router being used although there are too many factors involved to predict the outcome. Wireless G has it's limitations which is why there is wireless N.

If you want it to work right and don't mind spending some money to upgrade the hardware then going to a wireless-wired N router would be the way to go. You would need to run an eithernet cable from the router to a wireless N access point at the closest location to the pool house for the best possible connection.

This would give you the best chance at making this work but I realize it's probably more work, time and money than you want to put into it. You would also need to use wireless N capible network adaptors on the pool computers to pick up the signal. This type of set up would work for certain but it's still a matter of how much you want to put into it.

The *****s in my building keep pointing the antennas down the hall toward their rooms not realizing that they are decreasing their signal strength. I know that the signal comes out of the sides of the omni-directional antennas on the router, but no matter how many times i fix them someone comes behind me a messes it up. I need a simple clear picture that explains how this is a bad thing. I know someone here has seen such a thing. And yes I googled it to no avail.

Hello,

My neighbor has was looks like a omnidirectional WiFi antenna on his roof.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p77/ ... C00149.jpg

I'm curious to know what legitimate reason one would have for having an antenna like this in the middle of a residential neighborhood far from any public wifi sharing?

To me, the only logical purpose would involve shenanigans.

A:Solved: Rooftop WiFi Antenna

That's very unlikely to be a WiFi antenna, most likely amateur radio or some other communications.

If he were really up to some shenanigans, it's doubtful that he'd be so obvious about it.

If you're really curious, just ask him what the antenna is for.

My signal strength is very low. I was wondering what are some tips and tricks to getting a bettere signal? I am picking up on wifi hotspots in my area. I can only get on one but the signal is real weak.

A:Wifi Reception Antenna Mod Question

you can try adding a USB extension cable then moving it around until you get a better signal. Since the antenna is inside of that thing, no "modding" can be done. If that doesn't work, you will have to buy another network adapter.

This one has pulled in excellent signals from my router in the other end of the house when my 2 other adpaters would only get a low or medium signal. check it out here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124126

BTW, i hope you are attempting to use public hotspots and not leach off of somebody's home network!

Are there different types of antenna cable connectors for Wifi AP's? I need to extend the cable that attaches the antenna to an AP, but don't know if there are different connectors. There is no information on the antenna - it's worn with age. It's just a whie fiberglass stick.

I was looking at this cable...
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8203947&CatId=374

A:External (outdoor) Wifi Antenna question

If the antenna is currently attached directly to the Access Point (AP), you should be able to look up the specifications for the AP and find out the type of connectors used. RP-SMA connectors as used in the cable in your link are very common for WiFi AP connections.

You will have some received and transmitted signal loss using any kind of extension cable. I found specifications for the cable in your link here:
http://turmode.com/turmode-15-ft-sma-rp-male-to-sma-rp-female-wifi-antenna-cable.html

The specs show that the coaxial cable type is LMR195. I found a web site for a cable manufacturer that makes LMR195 cables and has an on line signal loss calculator. You can expect about a 3.2 dB (47.4%) signal loss at 2400 MHz (2.4 GHz) and about a 4.7 dB (61.4%) signal loss at 5000 MHz (5.0 GHz).

http://www.timesmicrowave.com/calcu...equency=2400&runLength=15&mode=calculate#form
http://www.timesmicrowave.com/calcu...equency=5000&runLength=15&mode=calculate#form

The signal attenuation may exceed any gains you may achieve by relocating the antenna from a direct connection to the AP.

EDIT: The antenna may have a different gender RP-SMA connector if it is not designed to directly attach to the AP. In this case, you would need a cable with the correct RP-SMA connectors.

What is has more distance one omnidirectional antenna or 3 120 degree sector antennas if both antenna has the same gain (dBi)?

Isn't the same since Pr=Po (d/do)^-n ?
same power but omni waste more energy.

Or when you calculate the power(transmit power+ antenna gain), do you divide by the beam width (360 for omni and 120 for the 120 degree sector) so the power per degree is less for omini whch mean less distance?

A:WiFi omnidirectional Vs Sector Antenna with the same gain

People think that Directional Antenna has more distance because when we change omnidirectional to Directional antenna we got more Distance but that happen because you get more gain. For example, you can user reflector to increase 10dBi omnidirectional antenna to 16dBi 90 degree sector Antenna.

Imagine that. On another board, it was a neighbor, and I closed that because you are violating the terms of service for the ISP. Now you're here, and suddenly it's a new story.

Greetings guys, I've run into some network issues here.  I've noticed that my wifi signal became very poor, like modem is 2 feet from me, and laptop has very poor wifi signal (it wasn't like that before). I opened the laptop to see what's going on. I saw this wifi card ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/792608-005-792200-001-GENUINE-HP-WIRELESS-BLUETOOTH-CARD-ENVY-M6-P-M6-P113DX... ) . It has 2 connectors, BUT only one antenna attached to it. Where is the other antenna ? I'm pretty sure they should always include 2 antennas ? I've tried searching for it, but i didn't want to go further and disassemble all other stuff, since i don't know if i am losing warranty by it. but from what i could see, there wasn't second antenna included. I don't know why is my signal so poor, it wasn't like this before.

I am trying to figure something out My router is out in the living room, in my bedroom I have 2 different laptops setting side by side, my Toshiba wifi strength says "Fair" and the laptop right next to it says "Excellent" and has full bars. I have been noticing deteriorating performance for a while.

I searched online and saw a post saying if you open and close your laptop a lot (which I do) it can wear out the wifi wire because it goes through the hinge. I have already updated the drivers for the wifi so that's not it.

Has anyone ever heard of this? If it's true it sounds like a hard fix. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have just replaced the 802.11b Intel PRO 2100 wireless adapter in my Dell Inspiron 600m laptop computerwith an 802.11b/g Intell PRO 2200BG. I am confused about connecting the antenna cables to the new mini PCI board. Originally, the grey cable was connected to the Main connector and the black cable to the Aux connector. This is how Dell shipped the computer with the 2100. However, the Installation Guide for the new adapter (2200BG) indicates that the black cable should be connected to Main and the grey to Aux. How would I know which connection configuration is correct? Thanks.

P.S. I don't know if this is of any relevance, but the Intel PRO Wireless 2200BG adapter appears to be intended for HP computers. The drivers CD has HP on it and the Installation Guide is "Copyright 2004 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.". Is the antenna cable colour standardised among computer brand manufacturers?

I can connect to my home router through ethernet with my laptop, and I can connect wirelessly to it with other computers.

My laptop can also connect wirelessly to routers other than the home router. For some reason I'm having issues connecting wirelessly specifically with this laptop through this specific router. I need help troubleshooting. Diagnose and repair said there may be a problem with the DNS configuration.

I can't ping IP addresses either even the internet connection icon on the bottom right of the screen indicates that its connected to both my LAN and internet.

I can't connect to the NAS, so the LAN isn't working either.

Sorry, the title wasn't well thought out. I would have edited it if it was an option.

Hello, lets do some cleaning up and see if that helps you out .
How to Flush DNS in Windows Using the Command Prompt

Step 1 ? Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.

Step 2 ? Open the Windows command prompt by selecting the ?Start? menu and entering ?cmd? in the search text field box followed by clicking the ?enter? key.

Step 3 ? At the command prompt, enter ?ipconfig /flushdns? followed by pressing the ?enter? key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: ?Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.? Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.

Then , we want to get the IP reset, so, lets renew its settings and see if this also helps out :
you will type in the command box : ipconfig /release then enter, then next ipconfig /renew then enter, this will reset the IP , now restart and attempt to have it reconfigure its connections to your router. Post back results please.

I am having issues connecting to internet through wifi. Tried all the options that were suggested on various sites but nothing seems to work. The wifi signal is excellent, pings gateway but when I open the browser it says page cannot be found, normally it use to goto the gateway page and after giving username and pwd I could access internet.

Internet works perfectly on my other laptop with exactly similar settings.

Please help.

If you go to Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, and look at the Network connection diagram, is Internet X'ed out? If so, just click on the Internet. Does that work. (I'm sorry I can't be more specific but, for some reason, I can't get there right now to be more precise. I think I need to reboot.

Now I can connect the two with the wifi ad-hoc network, and my internet connection is shared, but the iPhone just can't see the internet connection. I know it's a Win 7 problem because the iphone connects to the net fine using an ad-hoc network and connection sharing when I boot my laptop (MacBook) into OSX (snow leopard).

Both networks (3G internet and wifi ad-hoc) are classed as 'work' networks in Win 7. Can you help ? it's a real pain having to switch to OSX to update my iPhone.....

The first thing you should try is to reboot your router by powering it off, wait 20-30 seconds, then power it back up. This is especially true if those devices that don't connect now, connected fine in the past.

I try to connect to hotspot in friends phone for file transfer from WIFI.
But since my friends data connection is off, and when i try to connect , it shows me "no internet access" and wifi doesnot get connected .
After turning on-off wifi multiple times (around 15-20 times), sometimes it gets connected . But it never gets connected in 1 shot .
Is it compulsory to have internet access to connect to a hotspot?
Is it bug or feature of windows ?

Hi there! I'm not not really techy. I was looking for a customer support number for Tp-link but thought that this forum may be helpful since I can't find their number anywhere on the net. Im using a Tp-link wireless router and I have a modem attached to my pc. I just noticed that if I turn off my router, the Ethernet light on my modem turns off, but the power and dsl lights are still on. Is there a way for me to use my pc even if my router is turned off? First off, check to see if your internet indicator light on your router is on. If it is not, then it is the router that needs to be reconfigured. Otherwise, disconnect and reconnect to the router and see if that helps.

Downloaded windows 10 about 7 weeks ago. Had no problems what so ever. Everything went smoothly. Then I was online when windows defender popped up about finding malware. When trying to fix this problem.. screen went blue and updates started. From that point on computer says I am connect to internet but the Linksey router said internet connection is lost. But computer in bedroom, cellphone, tablet and a few other devices still work using the wifi. Please help not sure what to do.

A:Windows 10. Had WiFi but now cannot connect to internet

So your computer is still running, thats good. First lets make sure that it was really Windows Defender that says malware detected. Open Windows Defender, go to the History tab, select Quaranteen and click details. It should list the malware that was detected.
Is the computer wired or wireless?
Then, you said Linksys router says connection is lost, do you mean connection between the computer and router? Some routers can show a list of the connected PCs, is that what you are referring to?

Laptop got a virus and I used system restore. When the computer came back up, it would not connect to the internet. It is a wireless signal and the computer recognizes the signal is there, but it won't connect. The connection box says "Connections are available". It also says "Not connected" and "Limited access". How can I get this fixed?

A:Wifi signal is there but won't connect to the internet

and welcome to the Forum

What exactly hapens when you try to connect? . .

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I cant connect to any wireless connection. I tried at my house and school and it shows either a red x, yellow triangle, or yellow ball showing connections are available. I can connect through ethernet though. I ran into this problem a few weeks ago but it was fixed after I did a malware scan but I have done many scans and everything clean. I also did ipconfig. Can someone help me?
Thanks

A:Laptop cant connect to the internet using wifi

If malware was involved try running this
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also, more specific specs on your system would be helpful.
Model number ...stuff like that.

It wouldn't hurt to look for updated driver/software for your wifi device either.
Which I could point you to if I knew what kind of system we were dealing with.

A:Can't connect internet even with wifi on in my desktop

I'm assuming you mean Safe Mode with Networking. My best guess is a software blockage, some program has closed your internet access, or, drivers for the devices that connect to the internet are "disconnected." You might consider removing the ethernet card and the wifi card [if such is in the desktop] from devices within Device Manager and force Windows 7 to rediscover the drivers -- hopefully such are on the hard-drive, just needing to be reIntroduced, reinstalled, reregistered. If you can, from another computer, download Tweaking.com's Windows Repair (All in One), install on problem computer, it just might be able to shake loose the obstruction. Accept defaults, add item #26 & 27, run WR in Safe Mode with Networking.

I am using Windows XP Pro with a TRENDnet wireless card in my laptop. I can connect to the wireless AP but then I am unable to connect to the internet with either Netscape or Explorer. Is my wireless card suppose to have its own IP address? I can't find one for it, if so. It use to work but think that adding SP2 may have changed a setting. I've pulled out all my hair by now, so please help!!

Hello.

I have a problem here. Everytime I connect to my WiFi, it looks like this:

It says "Internet Access", but I can't access any website. What is going on here? The only solution I find this so far is to turn off the Wi-Fi adapter then turn it on again. It makes me tired. Is there any solution available?

Oh yeah, I've tried updating the driver, but it says "Your Adapter is up to date".

Thanks.

According to this you should have a connection so something may be blocking the connection like an Anti Virus software.

Does it show up as connected but the browsers won't go anywhere? If so I have something for that.

Guys, we are seeing on multiple Lenovo models like the T440 and X131E's that when they are connected to Wireless they get a DHCP address and can get to intranet sites for our domain but cannot get to anything on the internet. they can ping and resolve to internet sites like google.com. They have this issue on multiple SSID's that they connect to and sometimes it will fail for hours then all of the sudden start working. We have updated the drivers, double checked our wireless LAN controllers, DHCP and we are jsut stumped. Any help or direction on this would be great. Thanks,Matt [email protected]

A:WiFi pulls IP but wont connect to internet

Sound like dns issue. Check which DNS is being assigned. Also if correct and valid. Typically if you can ping beyond your own network its then a DNS issue. You can override the default with something like OpenDNS IP's rather than the ISP or your own.

I understand your new system is having some Internet issues. When it is connected to the wifi, is it obtaining DHCP information from the router? This can be obtained by going to the command prompt and entering ipconfig. You mentioned other PCs work fine. Are any of them also running Windows 7? Has the router's firmware been updated? A router firmware issue can cause some devices not to work properly while others do work fine.

Hello; I have been having a problem with connecting to Wifi signals ever since this RunDLL error message has started popping up when I restart my computer. When I plug in an Ethernet cord I can connect to the internet but I can't connect to Wifi signals. I'm figuring there are some files missing by what these error messages are telling me.

The Messages: (appears in two different windows)

There was a problem starting

The Specified module could not be found

There was a problem starting
c:/Users/SUNFLO~1/AppData/Local/Temp/roron.dll
The specified module could not be found

At one point I ran a virus scan; could it be that the files got contaminated and were deleted? If so how do I get these files back? I have a Toshiba lap top, fairly new.

A:RunDLL Error Can't Connect to Internet/Wifi

Files are in TEMP folder of user starting with name SUNFLO. It's a temp file anyway. So you may delete it (as you probably did).

Start REGEDIT and start at the top (click on computer icon). Now search for: wrvetx
also search for: roron

Do you find them... if so where? Post screenshots

Hello, I have lost my wifi access via wifi.
I am using my own router and all other devices are working fine.
It is picking it up, showing 5 bars and saying it is connected and I have internet access, but will not go onto any Internet pages.. Chrome
says DNS PROBE FINISHED NO INTERNET.
When I ran troubleshooting on the wifi connection the the problem found was ' the remote device or resource won't accept the connection'.
Please can someone help?
Thanks in advance, Jan
