Unable to connect with internal Wifi or external USB adapter

Q: Unable to connect with internal Wifi or external USB adapter

This is for a work computer, that I'm 99% sure someone with monkey hands messed up. Now I'm stuck trying to get it fixed.

When I try connecting to a wifi network, the computer attempts to connect for half a beat, and tells me that windows was unable to connect to the network.

I turned off the firewall, there isnt a virus scanner running, and I updated the internal wifi drivers. I even tried using my external USB wifi adapter.

I was able to tether his cell phone to the computer briefly. As far as I knew, he was able to connect that way. He just told me today that the tethered connection doesn't always work,

So whatever is going on, I assume has something to do with a windows software setting. Any ideas?

I can't do a system restore because there is some proprietary software installed that would take an act of congress to get reinstalled.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I recently bought a mini PCI-e mPCI express Wireless to USB adapter Wireless card (w/SIM) hoping to plug my Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter into it so I could make it more portable to get a better signal. Nothing happened prolly because there's no drivers for it.

I know nothing about wireless adapters so Im sure im missing something. I just basically want to turn my internal wifi into external USB and need a help. All i bought was this Mini PCI-e mPCI Express Wireless to USB Adapter Wireless Card With SIM Card Slot - Newegg.com (Someone ive known online for awhile suggested it but i may not even need this)

After doing a little research it seems this works with WWAN which i think is like 3g/4g cell phone stuff. But to reiterate all i want to do is turn my internal Atheros wifi adapter into external be it USB or whatever.

I have a HP Notebook 15. I restarted my laptop this morning and when it came back on, all options for connecting to the internet via WiFi were gone. I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, and everything works this way. There are no options whatsoever to connect to WiFi or reset the connection or anything, however the WiFi itself is working because other devices in the house are connected to it. I followed a HP technical support online page, which provided step-by-step instructions of various ways to reconnect to WiFi but nothing worked. I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the system?

Install one of the adapters, make sure you have the latest driver from the adapter manufacturer's web site, and ...

What exactly happens when you try to connect?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

AT&T recently upgraded my Uverse service and I ended up with a gateway (router) that provides both a 2.4 and a 5.0 Mpbs network.  Is there an internal adapter, compatible with the ProBook 4540s (product # C9K70UT#ABA), that I can purchase that will be dual band and allow me to connect to both available networks in my home?

I've got an older laptop with an internal Ethernet 10/100 NIC card and a 2.4g wireless adapter.
I now have an ISP Internet package that provides up to 250mb download speeds. However I can never get over 100mb as it seems both my internal wired and wireless max out at 100mb.

If I purchase a usb wireless ac adapter that can handle download speeds of 300mb @ 2.4g and & 800+mb @5g will:
1) I get the speeds I'm paying for (up to 250mb download) or
2) the fact my PC's internal NIC (network interface card) max is 100mb that's all I can expect?

In other words, does a usb wireless ac dual band adapter work independent of all other network devices on one's PC to provide the best Internet speed or is the speed still throttled by one's PC internal NIC card limitations.

My desktop computer loses connection regularly and I cannot locate as to why. I have many other devices throughout the house at various locations which maintain a connection fine.

When the connection drops it still displays I am connected, but there is clearly no connectivity.

I've tried toggling between two devices, one an eternal PCI adapter and the other a USB adapter. I get interruptions on both, so my conclusion is there must be a setting causing this.

The desktop has been moved to other locations just in case of interference, and I've tried channel swapping as well.

A:Network interruptions with both internal and usb wifi adapter.

I would suggest choosing a single wifi device and uninstalling any wifi utilities that you have installed, or drivers for any other wifi device (including disconnecting them). Then follow this tutorial to see if it helps at all with the single wifi device you have installed (created by Dinesh): Internet Troubleshooting Guide

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)

Years back, being cheaper than external drives I had bought an internal drive as a backup. I also bought an USB to IDE/SATA kit in order to make the backup with. Well the kit seemed to be problematic and so I scrapped it and bought another one only to find the same problem.
it then occurred to me that perhaps the problem is that though the kit has a power supply the HD did not have power going to it--it only attached to the 2 SATA parts.
So I was wondering, how do I get power to it? What is the adapter for such a thing called and does it exist?
See attached photo to see my HD. The pins are not those fat ones but small ones
thanks

A:Internal HD power adapter for external use.

The two connectors on the right are power, far right , SATA, center.
The connector you have marked power is not power.

On some drives a connector for jumpers is in that position.

What model drive are you using?

Morning all I've googled this and found heaps of people having the same issue but nothing that actually resolves it I'm using a laptop with internal wifi but I also have an external wifi dongle as I connect to my neighbours internet I have permission and the passwords - Internal external Internet WIFI works, doesn't etc Both the internal and external used to work fine and both would have internet connection But something WIFI Internet - Internal works, external doesn't recently has changed and now the internal wifi still works with both network and internet connection but the external one only has network connection and no internet connection The WIFI Internet - Internal works, external doesn't reason I use the external one is it gives much better signal strength than the internal one and as said both used to work just fine Now I've tried uninstalling the external drivers and dongle and reinstalling it but no dice I've tried doing the netsh stuff WIFI Internet - Internal works, external doesn't people have recommended in some of the search pages but no dice Tried release and renew of IP but no dice I've disabled all firewalls but no dice and I figure the firewalls would stop both connections anyway but I thought I'd try it My internal card uses Atheros drivers and my external uses the Ralink drivers I'm going from memory now as it's at home and I'm now at work Both have IPs to the network everything looks similar for both when you do an ipconfig all Does anyone know how to fix it and the low signal strength of my internal wifi to get internet is rather flakey unless I stand outside their home they've offered to set me up a chair LOL As said the external one gives good signal strength and I connect to the network just not internet so I'm taking that the card is still working Any help would be greatly appreciated as this has been annoying me for a while now Thanks

A:WIFI Internet - Internal works, external doesn't

Have you tried taking your laptop to their house and connecting with your internal card? There might not be anything wrong with your computer - it might be something on their end that's preventing you from accessing the internet.

My daughter's desktop computer won't start up at all. When she hits the button, nothing happens. She needs to know if there is any way to connect a desktop's internal HD to her laptop as an external HD temporarily so she can get her banking records off of it. No backups, of course.

If not, shouldn't she be able to install it as slave into another computer and boot up and retrieve the files?

Thanks for any suggestions
Peg

A:Internal HD connect as in external

You can get an external enclosure, put the drive in there and then connect it to the laptop with a USB cable. Find out if it's an IDE or SATA drive. Here's an example of an IDE enclosure http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817193019 and a SATA enclosure http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817201025. There are also a few that will handle both IDE and SATA.

She could also put it in another desktop (one that will hold more than one hard drive) as a slave drive.

If she gets an access denied error, take ownership of the files or folders http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421.

Could you possibly help on advising how I could allow a server to connect to another server via http on the same aux network using its external address?

For example,
I need to be able to connect to http://89.99.99.99/Login.jsp on a server that is on the same network as the IIS server hosting this address. Now if I use the internal IP address or servername on this server i.e. http://10.11.12.13/Login.jsp I can connect to the application. What do I have to configure on the firewall to enable this to work? I am new to the world of networking and am not sure what is needed to get this to work.

Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks

A:Connect using external IP address on internal network

In order to connect to the public IP address, the router used would have to loop back the IP addresses into the network. I've been led to believe that some SOHO routers have that capability, but I've personally never tried to do it. Look in the WAN configuration for the router.

In Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections there "WiFi" is 'not connected' with a big red X
When I right click on that icon a menu comes up saying Disable
                                                                                             Connect/Disconnect (in bold letters)
                                                                                             Status
                                                                                             Diagnose etc
Disable works and then so does Enable, but 'Connect' does absolutely nothing.

Please help me re-connect this Qualcomm Atheros adapter

A:WiFi adapter won't "Connect"

Delete the Wifi profile for the device you are trying to connect to and create a new one. Does that help?

If this happened recently then doing a System Restore may help. I always recommend that any files added to the desktop after the restore data be moved to the My Documents folder. Any programs installed after the restore data would need to be reinstalled.

A:Windows Remote Desktop Unable to Access MAC From Internal or External

I am presuming that you have a static IP Address configured on the MAC? If not, you will need one.

The first thing I would do would be to download the latest version of the MS Remote Desktop and do a re-install of it:
Download Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1 from Official Microsoft Download Centre

Have you tried using Logmein? I've found it to be very stable.

I am using an Hp 2000 Notebook PC, and the wireless adapter that came installed on the computer is a Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter.  I have run the driver update tool, and it says that I have the most up to date driver installed.  I have also run the "Diagnose Problem" tool, and it says that there are no problems.  However, the computer constantly looses internet connection.  I assume it has something to do with the wireless adapter, because all of the other wireless devices in the house have no issues. The operating System is Windows 7.  I am somewhat tech savvy and can normally figure out issues by just playing with it for a while, but this one has me dumb founded, and its extremely annoying when you're trying to do something and you just loose connection and have to start all over again. Please help!!!

Hey all,

I've been away from the PC world for the past few years because I've been running a Mac.
I decided to get back into some gaming on picked up a Dell XPS desktop running windows 7 ultimate x64.
I bought a Asus USB N10 Wifi Adapter and it won't connect to the internet. It gets a limited activity logo over top of the connection.
Today I tried plugging it rite into the router with a LAN cable and still, no dice. Came up with an IP address error.
I'm guessing this is a router issue? When i run ipconfig in cmd prompt, it doesn't even have a default gateway?
Could someone explain what is going wrong here, and why It wont connect? We have 2 Macs, a PS3, some android tablets and a HP laptop running from out D-Link router.

Thanks for the help in advance, I really appreciate it guys!

A:Can not connect to Network in my Windows XP Desktop using Belkin USB Wifi Adapter

you could try logging into the router and removing the wireless security and see if it can then connect - if it can , add the security back on and see if connects

can we see a device manager screen shot - also try a tcp/ip reset
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Device Manager
Post back the results in device manager
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the screen shot and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

how to access device manager for different windows versions
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should open to allow device manager to be seen

on a laptop you may need to use Hold the Windows key and press FN key + the pause key

if this does not work then -
-------------------
Start > control Panel > system > {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} > +

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window.
1) hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

To upload the screen shot to the forum, open the full reply window ("Go Advanced" button) and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

A:Unable to update driver for Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

I would advise right clicking on the device that has the excalamation point and choosing "Uninstall", then select the check box to delete the driver software as well. Reboot and see if Windows detects and tries to install the software again, if not you can:
1) Go the the manufactuers website to get the drvier
2) Use the driver CD - if you got one for that device

NOTE - If this is for your wifi adapter, you will need to connect your computer to the router with an ethernet cable to get the driver from the web.

i recently bought a asus pce-n10 wlan adapter in order to make an AP for my smartphone/laptop to connect to (both have been ordered so i cant test it yet), my desktop is connected directly to the modem

problem is, without the asus utility software (which has outdated card drivers) i cant seem to get this card to connect, i made a screenshot with as much info on it as possible (if i forgot something i will make a new screen of it), its in dutch but i can translate it if necessary

as you can see it says its working correctly, even though it shows as "not connected", so windows doesnt seem to recognize it as a wireless network, have searched google for hours and tried numerous things (disable/enable, reinstalling drivers, winsock/tcpip reset) to no avail

thank you for your time and effort

A:Unable to connect through wireless adapter

Hi. Please supply the laptop make and model along with the router model.

If you are able to connect with an ethernet cable then it's highly unlikely to be the router.

Is your wireless network secured ? i.e. do you need a WEP / WPA key in order to access it?

Do you have wireless USB adapter or is wireless capability built into the laptop? Either way if you go to Device Manager look for any yellow exclamation marks next to your Network Adapter.

Go to RUN and type services.msc , make sure the following Services are set to Automatic and say started

DNS

DHCP Client

Wireless Zero Configuration.

Then go to RUN and type cmd

When the Command Prompt Window Opens type ipconfig /flushdns

The message should say Successfully Flushed the Resolver Cache.

Just some pointers - I can maybe of more specific help if you provide more detail. Good luck.

A:Unable to connect to WiFi?

Hi: If your notebook is missing the wireless card driver, there should be a device listed in the device manager under an Other Devices category named Network Controller. Please post the hardware ID for the network controller device so I can figure out what driver it needs. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the Network Controller device. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Hi there,

My neighbour has a problem which I've tried to help with, but have to say am stumped....

He is running a cable modem into a wireless router (Belkin), but since changing ink cartridges on the printer (maybe a coincidence) has lost his internet connection.

The PC (desktop running Xp) connects to the network, but there is no internet connection. I've been there with my laptop and all is well.

It also seems that every time you try to do something with network connections etc, the PC freezes the window/app and you have to reboot/log off and on.

I've never seen this before, but am thiniking pehaps the network card is done for.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
BJB

A:Unable to connect to Net via WiFi

Can't think of any reason changing the ink cartridges should effect the internet connection.

If I understand the problem:

Cable Modem --------> Belkin Router ---------> Desktop
No internet connection for the desktop.

Are you sure the Desktop is connecting to the Belkin? Can he access the Belkin's user interface from the desktop? If he can acccess the Belkin, then the card and cable is probably OK.

Did he try connecting directly to the cable modem to see if that works?

If you connected wireless, try connecting your laptop by the same ethernet cable to see if that works?

Could you supply the followong information for the desktop?

Taken from a JohnWill post.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Which web browser are you using? If you are using internet explorer, do a reset by going to tools, internet options, advanced, reset, ok, then start browser again. Make sure there are no proxies set that would interfere.

Also check any security software or antivirus, they can cause this problem many times.

Hi,

I am using a Nokia Siemens router. Using two laptops one with Vista and another with XP-SP3. My laptop is Acer and my wifes is HCL. And now the issue is that after i set the Security for network with WPA-PSK. My wifes laptop detects and tries to Connect with the network but finally it fails. I tried some possible steps and it didnt work. My Vista Laptop works fine after i delete the old access point.

Can Someone help me to fix this ?

A:Unable to connect thru wifi

She's using the same Network SSID and WPA-PSK security and algorithms and shared key?

The router is set to allow ALL MAC access (not block by MAC)?

The router is set for multiple access (usually a 50 address range)?

The wireless network mode is set compliant with her mode (G, B)?

I'm just rambling off everything I can think of.

Can Someone help me to fix this ?

A:Unable to connect thru wifi

it may be that the hardware in the HCL PC does not support WPA-PSK - depending on how old - but also may just need a driver update

Whats the exact make and model of the HCL - see if a later driver is available from the manufacturers website

Ok so I am working at a friend's house and I have run into a debacle. He needs his wireless adapter to be in a new room with better reception for the house. There are two Wall ports let's say port A and port B. He used to be in port A but wants to move to Port B. When hard connected to either port the internet works fine as well as generates the same IP, DNS, and gateway settings. When I connect Wireless however only port A connects to the internet. Port B will not connect to the internet even though the IP, DNS, and gateway are still the same when I check the wireless ipconfig. Any ideas. I have tried renewing, refreshing, flushing dns cache, making sure his ipv4 is automatic.

A:Wifi unable to connect to DNS

Are these ports connected to a router - whats the make and model of the router
Does if have two fixed IP address OR perhaps the DNS is set to 2 only

can we see an ipconfig /all please
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the infomation above those entries

For Windows 8
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/open-an-elevated-command-prompt-in-windows-8/
Use Win + X and choose Command Prompt or Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.
For windows version, XP, Vista, W7
Hold the Windows key and press R

Now type CMD

Now press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):
In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt
It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

I am having a similar issue with atheros AR5007 802.11b/g wifi adapters and Linksys E3000 but all I am getting is local area connection I have done many of these solutions but rebooting my system (missing the disc) I have a Hp Pavilion Entertainment PC dv3-1125nr with vista I am updating everything right now but I don't believe it will work I say you posed something about uninstalling and reinstalling atheros but I am unsure how or if my computer is compatible with what you posted earlier

A:Atheros Adapter - unable to connect to router

i have moved your thread into a post of its own

We are seeing issues where the AR5007 will connect to the router but not allow network/interent access
If you removed the wireless security from the router - it should connect and work OK like that

By updating the adapter - goto device manager - right click on the adapter and update driver - that has helped fix the issue in the past

would you post the following information here

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Hi,

Hope you are all doing good. From past few days I am not able to connect to any wireless networks on my laptop which is running windows 7 64-bit. I didn't change/install anything, it stopped working suddenly. I was able to connect to LAN and it's working perfectly fine. All other devices (phones and others computers) are able to connect to my Wi-Fi networks. I tried many things like re-installing my Wi-Fi adapter drivers, reset my router, clearing the Wi-Fi networks and adding them, many reboots, and few steps like clearing DNS and other settings as per the instructions on the Microsoft website. Can you please review and advise a good solution. Please let me know if you need any further info.

Thank you in advance.

Thanks,

Hey all!

Few days ago I got Acer V5-531. On this laptop, I can easily connect to wireless networks, but my home one. I could do it on my old laptop with no problems. How is it possible to solve this? It's getting quite annoying, especially knowing that this is the only network I can't connect to. In case with this network, it prompts password and then says "Unable to connect".

What have I tried

Air Mode is off
Updating/rolling drivers back
Resetting the router once (owned by neighbor, thus, I cant perform all maintenance on it)
router lights are on
pw is correct
wireless switch is on
What else can be done?
Thanks all!

Do you have service pack 3?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

I'm unable to connect with some Hotel wifi's but many others there's not an issue. The hotels where I can not connect sees the wifi and says it connects, but the browse and everything else says it's not connected. When connected to many Hotels a splash page will appear for acknowledgements or passwords, but no splash pages appear when I can not connect. I have not updated or know that I need to update my wifi drivers, but the Hotels I'm having issues with are not the ones with the newest routers and my home wifi is the latest technology.

I've had issues in the past and I do not remember any of the solutions. Would flushing the DNS help? I'm running Win 8.1.

Thank you

A:Unable to connect to wifi at some hotels and able to with many others

Some of it will depend how the hotel manages their network. Some use passwords, some use splash screens and some just have open networks. Some splash redirects don't work right away and take a couple minuets to come up. specially if its a small hotel and its check in time. Other redirects don't work with some browsers like Chrome. Last, try manually entering in a website in the address bar to trigger the redirect.

I try to connect to hotspot in friends phone for file transfer from WIFI.
But since my friends data connection is off, and when i try to connect , it shows me "no internet access" and wifi doesnot get connected .
After turning on-off wifi multiple times (around 15-20 times), sometimes it gets connected . But it never gets connected in 1 shot .
Is it compulsory to have internet access to connect to a hotspot?
Is it bug or feature of windows ?

Hello, I'm having some wifi issues. In the past few weeks I've only been able to use the internet on my laptop when connected via ethernet, despite having used the same wireless, router, laptop, etc perfectly fine for years!

When I first start up my laptop, I can see the list of my available connections. I press connect for my usual home router and then it will say "Windows was unable to connect to blahblahblah". And then the list will have a red cross and claim no connections are available.

If I press troubleshoot problem, Windows Network Diagnostics says to "investigate router or access point issues", which involves turning the device off (done this several times). When I select "check to see if problem is fixed", it thinks for a bit then says "Windows cannot resolve your wireless connectivity issue".

Please can you help?

A:Windows unable to connect to Wifi

Welcome to BC. !

Have you Reset the router ?....this usually involves inserting the end of a paperclip into a tiny hole located on the router itself......google the name of the router and it will show you where that hole is.
The word Reset should be written directly above/beside the hole.

To do this, press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds. NOTE: Resetting your router to its default factory settings will also reset your router's password. The router's default password is “admin” as for the username, just leave the field blank.

Ever since I got internet home service with Charter, I have been unable to connect to public hotspots. or rather I can connect for about 15 sec, and then my computer automatically disconnects. This never happened when I had home service with Verizon. Is there a setting that needs to be changed on my HP?

A:unable to connect to public wifi

Do you actually get connected and are able to see a web page at a public hotspot? Have you made SURE your firewall is properly configured to allow you to connect to the hotspot? Perhaps you've restricted the connection to a specific IP address subnet?
Let's see this when you're at home, and again when you try to connect to a public hotspot.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

I just installed a freshly clean windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
When I tried to connect to the internet it says I need to install a network drive or something. I've done that but it still can't connect to my modem. It doesn't even detect any connection coming from the modem and I'm connected through a ethernet cable.
Any ideas on how it can be fixed?

A:Unable to connect to internet cause of network adapter problem.

go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc right click the devmgmt.msc icon in the Search Results and Run As Administrator. In the Device Manager do you see any devices with yellow marks? If so, these devices need to have drivers installed. If you have a name brand computer (Dell, HP etc) go to the manufacturers Support/Download Drivers site and type in your service tag # or your make and model # and download the Network Adapter for your specific computer. And any other drivers you need.

A:PCI wireless adapter unable to connect to a specific router

I have exactely the same problem as You!
I first used a TP-link in the one and only PCI-Express-16-slot. Worked perfect in my Acer Aspire M5800. Then my grafic card broke down and the new blocked the slot! So I changed to D-link DWA 525 full PCI but cannot make it work . Hope someone can help us!

But the next day , when i tried connecting to my Router , it wouldnt connect. ("Windows is unable to connect to <SSID>")

Here are the things I have tried ::
1)I am able to connect to the same router , using my laptop and 2 wifi enabled mobile.
2)I tried changing the SSID , the encryption type (even keeping it open). Still couldnt connect.
3)Reset my router , and tried to connect with its default setting.
4)Tried connecting to a manually created adhoc connection via my laptop as well as my android device (Hotspot), and connected to them successfully.
5)Updated the firmware on my router and installed the latest driver for the adapter.
6)Tried connecting to the same by booting into Ubuntu.
7)Tried connecting using various wireless network connection softwares.

Where is the problem!?

After a power outage, my laptop and sister's phone would not connect nor recognize our router. We turned off the router and rebooted it, after which her phone connects but my laptop still would not connect at all. I tried manually setting up the network on the laptop, the network still won't pop up anymore.

This morning I tried connecting to wifi to WiFi suddenly unable ok router connect, but it wouldn't connect WiFi suddenly unable to connect, router ok saying that there was quot no internet connection quot it was working fine yesterday evening I restarted the modem router and verified that it was working with other devices I've tried disabling amp re-enabling the wifi adapter double checked that the wifi button was toggled on ipconfig release amp renew and a few other things but nothing has fixed the problem At this point if I restart my computer I can connect to my router for a brief period lt minute before the connection terminates and won't connect again The wifi tray icon has a yellow circle on it and I can see the available networks but I can't connect to them If I try the windows troubleshooter it will say either to check the router amp or that the LAN is disabled Running ipconfig -all shows that the media state is disconnected even though it looks to be on enabled through device manager the control panel network adapter page and the keyboard wifi button is on How can I figure out where the problem is It isn't the router since it works with other devices but it doesn't entirely seem to be the network card either since it can still see the available networks but just can't connect to them Does anyone have any idea of what to do NIC Broadcom b g n driver version

Try to Reset your WiFi : Settings>Network & Internet>Network Reset. You will lose all the Passwords and Config. Windows will reboot ,but it waits 5 min. to do it.
Try to Reset Firewall: Control Panel>Firewall>Restore Defaults . There is also an Option "Troubleshoot my Network"
Try the Troubleshooter: Control Panel>Troubleshooting>View All>Internet Connection

I purchased a new ASUS laptop a couple of days ago and have been trying to use the hotel wifi where I am staying to do the various updates and installs that new computers require. Unfortunately, while I can connect to my tethered cell phone, I cannot connect to the hotel.

I have another computer on hand that has no difficulties connecting to the hotel wifi, so I know the problem is in the new computer somewhere.

Network adapter is a Broadcom 802.11ac

Actions so far:

Updated Windows 8.1 to current
Attempted to reinstall drivers (uninstalling first) - Drivers are up to date and identical to the ones on manufacturer's site.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

A:New computer - unable to connect to public wifi

The problem is not with the computer or Windows 8.

There are many routers that are not compatible with the new 802.11ac standard. It's unlikely that a hotel will update the firmware on the router for you which may help but in many cases a new ac router will be required.

Try using another n type adaptor, USB perhaps.
