Virtual Wifi Miniport, dhcp question.

Q: Virtual Wifi Miniport, dhcp question.

Hello, I have virtual wifi miniport active through nesth, I use it to share internet to my Nintendo 3ds but I can not share it with my Nintendo Ds, after reading and found that the virtual miniport wifi dhcp not active, I wonder if there is any way to enable the miniport dhcp, I have been sharing internet through mac OS x Snow Leopard but I work on both Windows and Mac OS, while I like to play while completing the build process.

Any help is truly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Virtual Wifi Miniport, dhcp question.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Virtual Wifi Miniport, dhcp question.

You should be able to turn on DHCP the same way that you can on a regular NIC. Go to the Network and Sharing Center, then look left to "Change Adaptor Settings" and click that, highlight and right click the Virtual adaptor and choose properties, then right click TCP/IPv4, choose properties again, make sure that the upper dot is set to "Obtain an IP address Automatically, same for DNS.

Using Windows 7, my wireless works great in the vicinity of the router, but slows down and will not load some sites when 30+ feet away from the router. The signal strength is excellent. Any ideas?

A:Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

Okay you may need to check around your router to first see if there are any mirrors really close. These can deflect the wireless rays therefore decreasing signal strength.

Your second option if this fails, is too purchase a WIFI-Repeater or booster.

I have added a webpage below and if you wish too purchase any of these simply google them (Maybe amazon, ebay etc.).

I found this quaint sounding entry in Device Manager (among network adapters) with driver dated 2006. Recommended update online search found one update but with a red lettered warning that I should not install it. So I cancelled.

What is this device? And do I need it?

A:Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter....???

Its purpose is to create a mobile hotspot using your Wireless NIC. For example, you have a 4G/3G USB device that lets you get internet access or you have a LAN (Ethernet) connection and you want to share the internet from your USB stick or LAN by making your laptop as a portable hotspot. You use the "Wireless Hosted Network" feature built-in to Windows to configure the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" to host a portable hotspot on your laptop. You then configure your 3G/4G connection to share the internet to "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter"

Now any device can connect to your laptop (portable hotspot) and get internet access.

I recently found this in my network connections and I'm curious to what it is used for...

Anyone have an idea?

A:Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

It creates a virtual wireless card, making windows think that instead of one, you have two or more cards installed on your system. Keep in mind though, that the maximum bandwidth of your wireless card will be splitt when using this. It lets you connect to more then one wireless network at a time. For instance, an Ad-Hoc network and an Access Point at the same time. An access point and a wireless printer at the same time.

Hello,
I have a problem
It started as such; My Connectify stopped working all of a sudden , I uninstalled it and reinstalled a newer version
but the installation stops everytime while 'installing driver software'
So I headed to Device manager , and I found "Microsoft virtual wireless miniport adapter" with a yellow triangular sign beside it , So i tried to update this driver , but everytime I try , this keeps appearing to me:
"Windows found the software for you device but encountered an error while attempting to install it: The data is invalid"
This is driving me crazy because  I have been searching the internet for an effective solution and I found none till know
Any help?

hi there guys,

Win 7 Ultimate 64bit...

i would like to know why the Wireless Connection gets weird numbers, i believe it has a reference with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter....

i mean, device manager it says #7 and #8 but from the task manager it says #8 and #9...

not a massive annoyance but what if i wanted to rename them to 1 and 2? it would make me happier..

please see attached screen caps. PC works great, i can totally live with it, but well, just to have things "the right way", if is easy i wouldnt mind to fix it...

thanks

If you are familiar with regedit, open it and go to key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}\Descriptions

where xxxx is, I think, a system-specific CLSID number. You will find the names of the network interfaces there, with all the ###s. You can edit them there by clicking modify.

I recently installed an internet sharing program which utilizes the connected wireless internet and shares it within the same wireless card.

After installing the program, I noticed that Wifi Miniport adapter had been installed. I had this driver prior to my system reset but i had constant problems with it.

I have the same problems again and apparently, the program needs wifi miniport adapter to be working properly to work itself.
It has an error (a yellow triangle an with exclamation on it) and that code number is 10, (The device cannot start)

On the program's website, it recommended to just disable and reenable and then the exclamation will go away. But it didn't. I tried updating the driver, and windows update found a driver (unsigned though) but it cannot install the driver because the device cannot start.

So it doesn't update because of its original error. (it cannot start)

Any suggestions on getting Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter properly working?

First off any external package that purports to add access point functionality to Windows 7 is quackery pure and simple. It's a built-in feature and always has been. Uninstall the rogue software, report it's name here and destroy the miniport it created from an elevated command prompt thusly:

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

Now set the wlan hostednetwork SSID and WPA2-PSK/AES passphrase or key and start the wlan hostednetwork thusly:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=<my_ssid> key=<my_key>
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
netsh wlan show hostednetwork

Pitfalls:

1) ad hoc networking MUST be disabled on the wireless adapter
2) a Hosted Network capable wireless adapter is installed in the local computer. The driver for the wireless adapter must implement the wireless LAN device driver model defined by Microsoft for use on Windows 7. To receive the Windows 7 logo, a wireless driver must implement the wireless Hosted Network feature.
3) network connection sharing for use by other computers and devices requires the use of Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).

Hi guys,

I'm pulling my hair out on this one; hopefully you can help me. I'm trying to create a virtual wifi AP using the Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter and the netsh wlan command line context, but it's giving me a headache.

"netsh wlan show drivers" in the command line includes the output line "Hosted network supported: Yes" so my wireless card should be supported, correct? I can setup the hostednetwork fine with "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=blah key=blah" but when I try to start it with "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" I get the following output:

"The hosted network couldn't be started. The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation."
My network adapter is a Rosewill RNX-N1 which contains a Ralink 2870 chipset (that chipset has been confirmed to support hostednetwork).

Any suggestions?

A:Errors with starting Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter

I can't say what the problem might be but the link below shows two methods for setting up a hosted wireless network. You can also try the link for connectify software which is just a user interface that makes it easier for some people.

It's important to note that a hosted wireless network is made to share a wireless connection with other wireless devices.

The hosted wireless network isn't made to share out through an Ethernet connection in any way shape or form, though it may be possible to do so you may end up with an unreliable network and there are no standard tutorials to set that up.

As far as I understand it's "native" to Windows 7.

You may just need to "enable" it in network adapter settings.

I just updated my Windows 7 to Windows 10 and among the few things that stopped working and caused me to lose a full day fixing drivers that have gone missing is that the program mHotspot no longer works. the reason for that is Microsoft Virtual WiFi

I'm trying to print wireless from my laptop to my Canon printer, but it say the printer is offline.  When I go into my drivers, it says there is an issue with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Adapter #2.  Also, I'm getting a message in my Network Connections under my LAN that the network cable is unplugged.  Are these things related?  We had to replace our modem because we were getting spotty wireless connection.  We did some troubleshooting with the CenturyLink tech, but got everything plugged back in properly, and now with the new modem, our wireless devices are working better than ever.  Other than this printer issue.  Any thoughts?  It's driving me crazy!

Hello,

I have been using my desktop for about 3 months now and suddenly within the last week a new connection appeared in my control panel described as "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter". Normally I wouldn't care about a benign excess connection, but I suspect it is the reason the network connection icon in my taskbar shows that I am disconnected, despite having access to the internet:

When I click "uninstall" in the properties menu the connection is still there when the computer reboots. I know that it can be used as a virtual hotspot but I currently have no use for this as I have a non-mobile desktop and a wireless router already. If anyone knows of a better use for this or how to disable it so that it no longer interferes with my taskbar icon (simply disabling the connection doesn't work ) it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

A:How to uninstall Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

You can turn off the virtual WiFi service by running the following commands in an elevated command prompt. This should get rid of the connection on the adaptor page as well.

no quotes> "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" hit enter after, then use this command "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow" hit enter again.

and if you want to turn it back on netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ? then netsh wlan start hostednetwork (without the question mark!)

How do I permanantly remove this pos from my laptop? It's giving me errors, when I hit the wireless button (to enable/disable) on the laptop half the time it disables the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter, not my laptops wireless, I can't connect to

A:Uninstall Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter Permanantly

I finally found out how to uninstall the microsoft wifi miniport adapter its so easy all you do is go to the command prompt as a admin and type this "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" with no quotes.
than type this "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow"  also no quotes. at first i thought this was disabling it same as right clicking and disable but actually it disables the service and the microsoft
wifi miniport is gone. for some reason its mode gets set to allow instated of disallow  and when you uninstall it it reappears and messes up the networking, example, printers, wifi routers, etc.
theres no way to uninstall it because it part of windows 7 for sharing wifi. IT WORKS TRY IT.
its not a bug in windows 7. wow

I would advise right clicking on the device that has the excalamation point and choosing "Uninstall", then select the check box to delete the driver software as well. Reboot and see if Windows detects and tries to install the software again, if not you can:
1) Go the the manufactuers website to get the drvier
2) Use the driver CD - if you got one for that device

NOTE - If this is for your wifi adapter, you will need to connect your computer to the router with an ethernet cable to get the driver from the web.

I used to see Wireless Connection 2 (Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter), but now it has disappeared.

I have tried netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=<name of network> key=<password>. However, this hasn't brought back the connection in "Network Connections".

How can I get it back?

Thanks in advance.

Just reinstall your Windows 7 approved wireless drivers and the Virtual mini port adaptor will reinstall with the drivers automatically.

The drivers do need to be Windows 7 approved in order to have the Virtual mini port adaptor which is only used to set up a hosted wireless network.

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with a recent problem I ran into. My wifi router broke down and I thought as a workaround, use my laptop as a temporary wifi hotspot until I can purchase a new one. I was able to share my LAN connection but cannot pass the Internet access thru my ad-hoc. I found out that I need to enable the MS Virtual Wifi Miniport to be able to accomplish that. The BSOD happened right after enabling that adapter. I tried rebooting into safe mode where I disabled both my wifi adapter and the miniport. Re-installed the wifi adapter but BSOD recurred when I try to enable the miniport. Any suggestions?
EDIT: I have posted an updated file. Apparently, the process took some time and not all files were present upon posting. My bad.

Everyone's had the problem of wanting to disable the wifi miniport, or enable it to share wifi.

I have a different problem. I would like to change which wireless device the wifi miniport uses, as the external USB wireless adapter I was using died. I cannot see the wifi miniport adapter without that device attached, it seems. I don't even know if the wifi adapter even as options to select which wireless card to use even if I could get it to appear.

Is there a way to do this without having to resort to reinstalling Windows 7?

I am fairly familiar with netsh. No command line option seems to be available to switch network adapters for the wifi miniport.

It also appears that it will simply not switch to the only wireless network adapter detected, and I know it will host a virtual wifi network, I've done ICS/AdHoc before.

The microsoft virtual miniport adapter is not required for internet access. it can be disabled.

If you have no internet access please post an ipconfig /all for us to review.

Please download xirrus for wireless connectivity only below:

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi everyone!

I have encountered the following problem with internet sharing: after using virtual miniport adapter to share my internet connection, when I want to shut down the pc, it won't. Just a BSOD.

When the connection is not shared, it works fine, no BSOD. But I need to share my connection to my girlfriends tablet.

I am connected to a free hotspot via a TP-Link TL-Wn7200ND ver 1.0 adapter and I have shared this connection using the Microsoft virtual miniport adapter. Everything works fine, till the moment I try to shut down the laptop. The system tries to shut down, but after 6 or 7 minutes it restars itself and get the message that an error occurred.

As requested, I attach the result of the sf diagnostic tool.

I don't know much about computers but from everything Ive read you can uninstall or go to cmd and enter codes to get this adapter to stop working.  I went to device manager and disabled it.  When I go to system information, components, network
and look at my adapters it is enabled.  I started cmd, followed instructions here and disabled it.  After reboot I couldn't connect to the internet.  It said correct driver not installed.  I thought you could connect to the network from
the laptop without this adapter.  Am I misunderstanding something?  Can someone please help?  Like I said, I know nothing about computers.  I just want to connect to our network and internet without using this.

I have a problem with configuring network cards

WIFI comes nicely with DHCP pool 192.168.0 .*
but

I have a virtual network adapter "Microsoft Loopback Adapter"
in it I have to have a static IP address 2.0.0.5
and set it manually (IPv4)

the problem is that the WiFi card is still changing my IP address of the virtual card

how to prevent it?

I wanted to wifi card automatically collects the IP address
but did not interfere in the virtual adapter's IP

A:Wifi DHCP - the second network card on a fixed IP

I quote (from ):

Quote:
Microsoft Loopback Adapter is a dummy network card, no hardware is involved. It is used as a testing tool for a virtual network environment where network access is not available. Also, you must use the Loopback adapter if there are conflicts with a network adapter or with a network adapter driver. You can bind network clients, protocols, and other network configuration items to the Loopback adapter, and you can install the network adapter driver or network adapter later while retaining the network configuration information.

Given that, there is no way your wi-fi card can "change" the IP address of your fake network adapter. If you set a static IP for ANY adapter, it WILL stay that way, regardless if one adapter is set to release and renew based on DHCP and one is not.

I even tried it myself. I installed the loopback adapter, set an IP and all that for it, released ALL DHCP'd IPs and renewed them. the static IP for the loopback adapter didn't change.

Take a look at your settings again, make sure you didn't miss something.

I just bought a brand new Asus K52F and when the laptop goes into sleep mode the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter & WiFi Miniport Adapter #2" fail. I have re-downloaded the drivers, rolled them back, updated them, everything but it hasn't worked. Any help would be sweet.

Also can anyone tell me what the white light up button next to the power button does??

A:WiFi Miniport Adapter/Adapter #2 Error

The virtual wifi mini port adaptor is used as a virtual wifi device so you can turn your machine into a wireless AP "access point" either with commands or the connectify software. The adaptor sometimes activates itself and causes problems, even when your not using it as an access point.

It should fix the problem if you go into device manager, go to "view" top of page, then choose "show hidden devices" which should allow you to see the mini port, disable the virtual mini port adaptor and that should fix the problem.

That little button next to the power button is a reset button, it's like restarting but a little different.

ipconfig/all shows that DHCP is NOT enabled.

Yet I have every thing set to Obtain IP addresses automatically in both my Ethernet adapter and wifi. In IPv4 and 6.

There is also no IP address listed in ipconfig/all for Default Gateway.

In the adapter properties I have everything checked except:

File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol

By the way, I can browse and ping both nameservers and Ip addresses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello all,

I have a question regarding DHCP and how its configured to dish out the address for the DNS server. Ive seen how to setup a pool for it to issue IP addresses to the clients. But how can you get it to push DNS settings out as well on a basic router. Not something highend like a cisco. But maybe like a linksys or netgear... Something that people would have in homes or small business.

Hi there, this is my first question on TSF and I hope this will be solved soon by the awesome experts :)

So, I own a TP-link Usb WiFi adapter (TL-WN321G) and I want to use my win 7 as a virtual WiFi. I've tried Connectify, Virtual router etc. And even TP- link's utility for a virtual hotspot on my win 7.

In all these, WiFi connects, I can browse on my phone but after sometime the connection drops, WiFi disconnects and then connects again, making the WiFi useless.

I then tested virtual WiFi on my old win xp, using Tp- link's utility and its working flawlessly. I tested with all security types (WPA, WPA2, WEP) and also tested encryptions (Tkip, aes) as I can change these in tp-link's utility program in win xp unlike in win 7.

I'm facing problem only in my win 7.

Any help please?

I see your Adapter shows as discontinued, it just may not be fully compatible with Win7. Have you contacted TP-Link support?

I have one of those motherboards which has an AC WiFI Adapter built on it... http://images.anandtech.com/doci/827...-ITX%20Top.jpg

That one to be exact.
Now I've followed these steps;

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=NAME key=PASSWORD
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Putting those into CMD and it comes up fine as told in the tutorial.
The problem comes however in turning sharing on, this then turns my internet on the Ethernet port off, it'll say something like it being limited and stays on Unidentified Network forever on that Ethernet port. As soon as I turn sharing off on the Virtual Wifi connection I've made, the Ethernet internet then goes back to normal and I gain internet access again.

This is obviously useless because I need the internet through the Ethernet to be able to setup a Virtual WiFi Hotspot thingy.

Can anyone help?
Thanx.

I'm trying to set up a virtual hotspot (like with the program Connectify) to allow my Nintendo DS to connect to the internet through my PC. Connectify would have worked if it weren't for the fact that the DS isn't compatible with Ad Hoc mode nor is it compatible with any form of security other than WEP (the program uses WPA2).

So, are there any programs that can allow me to create a virtual hotspot with WEP? I mainly run Windows 7 but I have access to Linux Mint.

I am trying to use a Netgear WNR3500 wireless as a wireless access point on my network.

I have attached two screenshots from the main 2WIRE AT&T U-Verse wireless router. I am trying to determine the DHCP IP range of the 2WIRE AT&T router.

Screenshot #1 shows Status under the LAN tab: Private Network DHCP Info 192.168.1.64 - 192.168.1.253.

Screenshot #2 shows DHCP under the LAN tab: DHCP Network Range 192.168.1.0 - 255.255.255.0 (default)

Can someone please tell me which DHCP IP range I should use. I need to set the IP address of the Netgear router to an IP outside the DHCP range.

Thanks! Bill

A:Router DHCP IP Range Question

1) You can leave the 2WIRE settings alone.
2) Connect to the Netgear WNR3500
3) Disable DHCP
4) Connect the WNR3500 and the 2WIRE as shown in step 4 on this website:
How do I set up a router as a wireless access point? ? ask4 Portal
Where that image shows a wall jack...
...that would be one of the ports on your 2WIRE router.

And of course you can use Wi-Fi instead of a LAN cable to connect the computer to the WNR3500 for day to day surfing, but you might not be able to configure the WNR3500 via that connection. More on that later.

The 2WIRE router will issue all of the IP addresses for your network. Once you connect to the WNR3500 via Wi-Fi, your connection will be forwarded to the 2WIRE for it to hand out an IP address.
To answer your question more directly, the DHCP IP Range is shown in screenshot #1. Screenshot #2 is showing the starting IP and a thing called a submask (255.255.255.0). That does define the starting and ending numbers for a network, but it is not the same thing as the range of IP addresses that the DHCP service will dole out.

>> I need to set the IP address of the Netgear router to an IP outside the DHCP range.
Some 2WIRE routers will not accept traffic from an IP address that are outside of the DHCP range unless you also set some things up in the router for that IP. So once you get this all hooked up, you might not be able to "surf" to the WNR3500's configuration interface. Also, you might need to look around in the 2WIRE interface to see what IP addresses are already in use by things like DVRs.

One way to avoid all of the mess mentioned in the preceding paragraph is to assign the WNR3500 an IP address of 10.0.0.1. And when you want to change settings on the WNR3500, assign a static IP address to the hard wire network adapter (Local Area Connection) on your computer:
...a static IP address of 10.0.0.2
...a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
...and a gateway of 10.0.0.1
Then plug a LAN cable from that computer into one of the LAN jacks on that router (not the internet jack). Surf to 10.0.0.1.

Hi

I have a friend with a big farm. He was struggling to get a signal from his BT Router.

I therefore suggested he buy 2 of these

http://www.cclonline.com/product/64...-W300KIT-300Mbps-Network-Starter-Kit/NET0301/

Using this excellent article

http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/W...outers-wired-the-definitive-answer/td-p/47006

I managed to connect the two routers, gave the 2 routers different SSIDs and the occupants can now wander about with a laptop and switch from one SSID to another. All well all good.

He's now called me again to say that his son is complaining about a weak signal at the very back of the house and can I add another router.

My query is, what do I have to do to connect the 3rd Router as regards setting the IP Range / DHCP etc?

I hope to be able to wire the new (identical) third router to the second via LAN Port

Really grateful for any help.

A:Three identical Routers, DHCP question

You need to set the LAN address of the new router to an address that is within the sub-net mask range of the network, has not been assigned to another device, and is outside the DHCP range of the first router. The DHCP server is turned off on the new third router. The LAN port on the new router can then connect to an open LAN port on either the first or second router. Using the example addresses in your links, a suitable address for the new router could be 192.168.1.3

Anyone use this?

Windows 7 Virtual Wifi Router
I ran it and when I hit Configure/View Comodo told me that it was trying to have full access of my keyboard.

Is this a Trojan?

A:Virtual wifi Router ... Is this a virus or trojan?

Windows 7 Virtual Wi-Fi router is a software emulation of the wi-fi adapter which is present in your computer.

This is not a Trojan. The purpose of this virtual Wi-Fi router is to allow you to create a wi-fi hotspot from your computer so that nearby computers may connect to it for internet access. If you already have a wi-fi router in your home then you don't need it. This will come in handy when you have a cable connection for internet and wants to give wireless access to other systems in your home.

If you have installed it from internet, you may uninstall it from Control Panel - Programs and Features. Otherwise you may disable it in Device Manager.

Hi there,

I use a small usb modem for my internet access and using a usb wifi adaptor and a virtual wifi router I was able to share my internet around home quite affordably.

Every now and again the software 'virtualrouter' would cause a crash. Maybe once every 3 months.

When I updated to 8.1 the software no longer worked, nor did any other. What's more it cause a DPC-Watchdog violation within a few minutes.

When I say the software doesn't run, one of two things happen. My old program 'virtualrouter' runs as normal, but none of my devices can connect. The network is available, but connection is impossible.

With other programs I get told that the wifi adaptor is not enabled. Which it is.

Something has changed in the upgrade and I don't know what. Every option and test I've run and enabling of virtualisation says that it should work. But then the BSOD arrives.

Please help.

I had similar problems with 8.1 where the wifi adaptor would just disappear from Device Manager with no way to retrieve it.

The only thing that worked was performing system scans for missing system files and apparently there was some component store corruption as well. Typical for Windows 8 really.

Try running the scans outlined in the link below and let me know the results.

I, personally, don't think this is a bad thing. They are probably needed by a piece of software you use or your wifi driver. Just to make sure, run a virus scan with Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - CNET Download.com

I m running a simple network at DHCP server Solved: cannot IP addr but from ping DHCP Getting home with a Linksys BEFSR router I have two computers hooked Solved: Getting IP addr from DHCP but cannot ping DHCP server up wired and a wireless router acting like an access point that I use for my laptop occasionally Until this weekend I ve been having no problems but I shut down the computers due to weather and now one of them is not able to communicate with any others on the network The problem computer will get an address supplied to it by the router DHCP server but once it has it I cannot get any other connectivity Of course this is hindering internet access on this computer I can ping the loopback and assigned IP addresses w o problems but when I ping the default gateway router and or the other computer I get quot Request timed out quot I initially thought it was the NIC so I bought another one but still get the same issue I ve moved the cards to different PCI slots but no luck I tested the cable running from the computer and the router but found no problems I even tried resetting the TCP IP stack but still didn t work The computer in question is running WinXP SP with the original NIC being a Linksys LNE TX and the new one being a D-Link DFE- TX Any clues on this If more info is needed let me know--it s been a while since I ve posted Thanks in advance nbsp

My old computer died and I replaced with a Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista Home Premium. Pagemaker 6.5 won't load and Photoshop 6 runs but very slow.

I could use some advice and on setting Virtual PC:

I have a Widows 98 disk that came with older programs. Could these be used for Virtual PC?

Can you make a partition to run Virtual PC in with out a complete reformat?

I have a Western Digital external USB Backup-could Virtual PC be installed on it?

As you can see, I'm completely ignorant about using Virtual PC but would really like to regain access to PageMaker.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

A:Question of Virtual PC

Hi Bill,

Yes, you can download Virtual PC 2007 from Microsoft and install your Windows 98.

It's not like setting up a dual boot system where you create a seperate partition and install there. You install Virtual PC 2007 in Vista, then when you run it, it'll prompt you several questions to create a virtual machine (VM).

When you first setup a VM, you have to specify the OS you are installing, location of your VM (it selects a default location in your documents folder, but you can change the location to a different folder), how much RAM (limited by your physical RAM) and hard drive space to assign (limited by the OS you are installing and your hard drive space). Then when you insert the Win98 CD, you'll go through an installation like normal. You'll need to create and format the partitions in your virtual machine.

I have a Windows XP Pro and a Windows NT VM setup on my system. I even setup a shared folder so that I can transfer files back and forth between Vista and my VM's.

I hope that helps.
