How can I prevent one Admin from deleting another Admin??

Q: How can I prevent one Admin from deleting another Admin??

I am setting up a very basic computer for a company, and I have already activated "The Administrator" and created a secondary Administrator. I will need accesss to The Administrator often. So what I am asking; Is there a way to prevent one administrator from deleting the other intentionally or unintentionally? I've set the password on the one I don't want deleted, but I know that is not enough, because the other Admin can still remove it.

Preferred Solution: How can I prevent one Admin from deleting another Admin??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How can I prevent one Admin from deleting another Admin??

Not sure how this is network or sharing related but it should be noted that the built-in Administrator can never be deleted only deactivated. It is strongly advised to only activate it when necessary.

You should only allow users Admin access if you wish them to have full control of that machine. The only possible way I can think of is to restrict access via group policy to that one Administrator so that it cannot change what you don't want it to.

Group Policy - Apply to a Specific User or Group

Please understand that even this isn't perfect and they may be able to bypass it via a command prompt therefore it may be worth restricting access to the command prompt. That being said if you want that much restriction then the account in question should really be a standard user.

As you can see from the screenshot, somehow I have acquired a partition of unallocated space of approx 195 GB...I want to delete this partition, adding the extra GB to my main, OS:C partition, but I cannot figure out how to do it...Can someone help? Thanks a lot,

A:Deleting Unallocated Space Partition

It is already deleted, that is why you can't.

What you can do is grow your C partition into that space (forget whether it is called merge or grow or expand).

Do you know how to increase my C drive without deleting some important data or programs? In fact, yesterday, when I attempted to install a newly download program, a message popped out and told me there was a low disk space problem. I had also checked my C drive space. There was really 597MB of free space left. So, I just want to increase this drive successfully. Do you how I can do that? Any advice could be greatly appreciated here. Thank you!

I believe you can reformat that partition and lose the data on it but reclaim the space. I'm just going from memory here so I might be wrong.

Hi Friends ... I have this laptop that has been given to me by my company and the USB ports have been blocked in manner such that I can copy stuff from my USB drive on to the machine but cannot copy in the reverse direction, ie. from the hard drive to the USB. Obviously it is to safeguard against theft of data. However, I do not deal with any confidential data and like to back up things every few days. Please tell me a shortcut to unlock my USB entirely even though I do not have administrator rights on the machine.

My PC says a shared drive is full and I spent a few hours yesterday deleting and zipping files; but this morning it still says it is full.

I attach screenshot from treesize ? not sure why bottom-left says H: has 21% free but pie-chart says 99%.

In Windows Explorer, right-clicking on the drive shows 321gb free and 1.18tb used (which I think are the same figures as before my mammoth file deletion exercise yesterday).

Windows Explorer shows recycle bin as empty.

Looks like the server sharing the drive has a quota on it. Go to the server & change your users quota to give yourself more storage. Hope this helps, take care!

Hi, Just installed new 500gig Seagate sata hdd on computer, everything good. connected old 250 gig Seagate, now on startup, xp goes to chkdsk on F: and starts deleting the the files I want to keep. How can I set up the 2nd hdd as storage only?

Thanks in advance.

A:XP deleting files from second SATA HDD on startup

here is what i think it might be but u might wanna post a screen shot of the process using ur camera or cellphone camera to be sure what we're dealing with,
it might be re arranging files. HDD sorts file differently than u might think "i put my games in a folder then they're together physically" not true ur games folder could be scattered around the HDD's media and linked so u see them in the same place during a sudden shutdown "power out shutdown or restart using ur power\reset buttons" some files might be orphaned "lost its link to the others" so u dont see it in its place in that case chkdsk seeks those orphan files and reconnects them to their proper places so u when u open ur games folder u see all ur games there or some files wasnt saved properly so they get lost if ur pc suddenly shuts down and they remain as pieces they case some issues so chkdsk has to get rid of them.

A:RAID issue - deleting RAID volume to restore non-RAID disks

sadly, there's no way to do what you want without an existing backup.

Look at it this way;
A disk has a container ~ the partition.
The partition as a structure ~ the filesystem (eg NTFS, FAT32, RAID).
We put our data into the structure.

When we create backups, we are getting only the data itself (unless you use an image program like Ghost or Acronis where you get all three).

Deleting the RAID will give back the two independent HDs, but also breaks the structure so that the data becomes in accessible.

We've recently removed 2 printers from our network (a Konica and a HP). Whenever any user EXCEPT 'Administrator' logs in now, they get the below "Connect to Printer" error dialog box. I've made sure to remove the printer from Printers and Faxes, and even the drivers in 'Server Properties' (under the File menu in Printers and Faxes). They're all Windows XP SP3 and rebooted after removal of the drivers.

I even tried Bruce Sanderson's cleanup suggestion. To no avail.

Here's how the error dialog box looks:

Connect to Printer
Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server. For more information, click Help.
OK Help

I took a look at the suggested registry fix at this techspot discussion but I don't think it applies to our problem.

Anything else to try?

A:HP Mini admin password unknown

You need to talk to HP, after changing the registered ownership, and may need a document about the fate of the previous owner. You may have to send it to a certified HP service center with a formal notice of change of ownership included.
As for TechSpot, there is a policy to not provide assistance with passwords.
What you want to do is usually very difficult in the best of circumstances.

OK, my subject line might sound cryptic! Here is my set up: first router (main) is connected to the cable modem and provides std addresses as (base is etc. I have a second router (same brand) as a gateway connected to my main. This second router base address is and all that are connected to this one have manually provided IP addresses (such as, etc). The main one provides WIFI access as for the second one do not.

Now my question: from my laptop who uses the WIFI network, how can I reach or connect to the other network (the one that is managed with the router with the address? The purpose? I would like to access the computer connected to it as if they were part of the WIFIed network. And be able to access the router management page. Any clue?

A:Cascading routers - how to access admin features from one to the other?

first some basics;

examine the router (the box itself). everything attached to a LAN slot will default to
routing upwards using the WAN slot -- that's a big clue as to what the routing tables looks like.

second; to manage the configuration of a specific router:
a) WIRE a system directly to it
b) login to the router config page using the current router's ip-address

if your network is

then a system attached to routerX will route upward to router(X-1) and NOT downward to router(X+1)

if you wish to have ALL systems (wired and wireless) see and share with each other, then you have too many distinct address.
Leave router#1 as is. disconnect router#2 from #1 and wire router#1 to a LAN port on router#2, leaving its WAN port empty. Log into router#2 and disable DHCP.

Now do the same for the wire from #2-->#3 and disable#3 DHCP.

All systems (wired or WiFi) will get ip-assignments from router#1 and will be able to
ping and share files.

On my desktop computer I dragged my My Documents folder to my flash drive.
Then I wanted to delete a sensitive file from the folder in the flash drive only and did so.

But when I checked in the computer hard drive I found that the file had been deleted there also.

I went to the recycle bin and restored the deleted file.
But now my flash drive has lots of other files there that I did not put there.

I thought that deleting a file in the flash drive would delete it there only. How can I do this?

Why did so many files appear on the flash drive when I restored only one?

I am considering erasing the flash drive on my laptop which does not contain the sensitive file.

That's a new one

Sounds as though you must have created a shortcut to your My Documents folder files
Plus, due to synchronization, anything removed from the flash drive also removed the file in your local My Documents
Next time, only copy\paste the files you actually want to store on your flash drive within My Documents folder

Also restoring files, seems to have restored many files in My Documents, being on the Flash Drive too (or worse -> only)

My documents should not be dragged anywhere
The specific contents, possibly yes (but My Documents carries many other common default files as well, coming from All Users profile too  )

Cannot Login to Netgear DG834G router wirelessly from Dell Laptop

Hi heres hoping you can help me.

I have a wireless connection through a Netgear DG834G from a Dell M6300 running Windows XP which is working fine with respect to accessing the internet..

I also have a desktop (wired to the router) which is also running fine.

The problem is that I cannot log into the router wirelessly as Admin on
I can login to the router as Admin from the wired PC, but not the laptop !!
I get to the login screen to input password but when pressing enter the login box just re-appears with the password field blank again.
I know the password entered is correct and accurate as it works from the wired desktop

(note: I have changed my laptop recently from HP to Dell, I was able to access the router wirelessly as Admin to perform maintenance with the HP model)

Any ideas ?

A:Cannot connect to wireless router as admin wirelessly

Are all the settings correct for the wireless laptop.
encryption method WEP, WPA, WPA2

Does the router even see this new laptop?
Do you still have the older laptop?
Check to see if the DELL firewall is disabled under Windows, make sure it off.
Try opening up a session: ping
Does the laptop get IP by DHCP,

ipconfig /release wait.... ipconfig /renew wait... try it again does work then
try static IP then do ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns

If all still doesn't work try..
re-joining the wireless router
disconnect using the wireless in range method on the laptop
reconnect but remove the password then re-do it then click on connect see if the wireless laptop can connect.
If it does reboot the laptop and login with your login ID password
Now open the browser and see if you can get into your router
Make sure you do not have any spyware or popup blocker active..

I am in sales. I have a new Dell d610 Latitude Laptop. I need to reset some of the stuff in the BIOS for wireless, etc and the IT guys at my company seem to have mislogged or fogotten the admin pw for BIOS. Anyway they have given me five alrady and non of them work. They say I will have to ship the unit in to Chicago and they will fix it. That will take a WEEK that I do not have. How can I reset the password? The settings in the BIOS I need to change are locked and the message says the setup is locked-enter the admin pw into SECURITY UNLOCK SETUP to enable changes. I recently bought a dell inspiron 6400 N series computer from a fellow soldier who left to return to the states. I was planning on using this computer for movie watching and to save pictures on to send to family. I went to turn it on one day after using it for a week and the computer started up to a screen that asked me for an administrator password. I did not receive this password or do not have knowledge of one that was saved. I cannot use this laptop and I was just starting to enjoy it! This was my way to have some down time away from this place. Can someone try and help me please? I tried to email rustam_ but got no reply. I tried to go to different websites but found no help. Someone please help me! I would really appreciate it.

A:Lost Admin Password in IRAQ help Dell6400 Inspiron

I'm assuming this is a windows password we're talking about here, and that you're running XP. If it is asking you for a BIOS password (black screen, white text), then you're probably screwed, unless there is a BIOS reset jumper within easy reach. If not, have fun opening the entire laptop to find it.

If it gets to windows and wants a password, try this:

grab either active password changer (

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor (

Follow the instructions closely and there's a good chance one of the two will work.

well there r lot of software which recover hard disk...

but i wud like to know if it is ever possible to prevent the recovery of hard disk by means of any software? or do i just need to break my hard disk into 2?

A:Prevent hard disk recovery??

To prevent data recovery by normal software, then overwriting the entire disk contents once will do.

Special lab equipment (and/or manufacturer-specifc software?) can recover even overwritten data. If you overwrite with certain patterns many times, then it becomes more difficult to restore stuff.

Mind you, according to US DoD (or whatever the often (mis)quoted standard was), the only accepted way of destroying "top secret" material from magnetic media is either disintegration or degaussing.

I installed a new HDD today and when I went into the Windows setup to partition it, I accidentally deleted a partition on one of my other drives. This drive had ALL my pictures, music, movies and videos. EVERYTHING I had was on that disk.

Since I only deleted the partition, I would assume the information is still there. Is there anyway to recover this, or am I screwed?

A:Is there anyway to recover data after deleting a partition?

You're in luck. As long as you haven't done anything else to the disk, you should be able to recover everything. Deleting the partition just deletes the partition table info, the original data is still there. Google some hard disk recovery tools. I used this once to recover from a similar problem.

Could it be the unthinkable possibility of overheating? Yes, you removed two fans and it made things better, but that could have been because the airflow changed for the better inside the case.

disable file sharing. install a firewall like F-Secure Client security and Antivirus or Zone Alarm or Outpost... Set different workgroups (i.e. your comps on home and hers on internet or something).. just doing the firewall on its own should work.

I have a few programs (notably 3D Pinball, which irks me) that either load slowly, or do not function up to speed. I run AV and anti-spyware regularly, so I don't think those are the root cause.

On running SystemMechanic for duplicate files, I find many that were created before I even owned the computer. I know- some programs/systems were created some time ago, but?

My question is, how do I know which is a duplicate, and which should remain? There are scores of them, but here is an example:
C:\WINDOWS\ SERVICE PACK FILES\i386\wbemcore.dll

All were created on the same date, at the exact same time, and are the exact same size. As I said, there are many, many, similar files. Which to keep? Which to toss? How do I know?

Thanks for any and all insight--

A:Deleting duplicate (?) files

The ones with parenthesis are duplicates. Generally you want to keep the files in the service pack folder.

Different versions of the same libraries may cause you issues but that's another matter. Duplicate files do not affect the speed of your computer unless you are chronically low on disk space.

I would recommend some basic optimisations before going and messing with system files. Defragment, disable unneeded system services and background programs that hog your resources. Tune the pagefile, check that your hard drives are running at DMA speeds and haven't been downgraded to PIO. Make sure you have proper video card drivers installed.

The first Month it happened I connected Thunderbird and Godaddy reset the servers and all my emails appeared again. Its a endless battle and the topper was my Unlimited service expired so they closed my email address.

That is pretty extreme just to clear cookies.

Hi all So the situation is this I had to setup an existing PC in Admin Privileges Lost the office for a new starter and decided to be lazy and simply change the user account name Lost Admin Privileges I know that was a schoolboy error Since doing this the computer allows me to login fine with the new username password but keeps asking for the Admin login details whenever I try to make system changes update software etc The user account I changed was the admin account so not sure why this is happening I ve tried using every username password that has ever been assigned to that PC but nothing works Is there any workaround to get Admin privileges back so I can fix this FYI - The PC is a member of our work domain so figure this has further complicated things Really hoping this isn t going to need a full re-installation of windows fingers crossed someone out there can give me some good news Thanks in advance nbsp

A:Lost Admin Privileges

The prompt for Admin during installs is actually a good thing (that is the UAC and you REALLY want it to prompt) BUT you can almost always use any log in the Administrators Group

use CP->User Accounts
add user
set type = Admin
*must* add password to it

save and close

runas /user:$whatever$you$just$created cmd
give that password

it will then create the %profile% for that new user

From then on, you can reply with $whatever$you$just$created and its password

I have the game called F E A R FEAR w DLC s FEAR and FEAR in my Steam Library In the event I ever want to re-install Steam I want a backup of the game files FEAR and FEAR were successfully backed up FEAR on deleting folder Difficulty named a F.E.A.R. the other hand has given me a headache I ve since successfully managed to get it done but not by using the default folder name quot F E A R quot for backup I eventually renamed the default and used quot F E A R quot First attempt was including the DLC links That is the main game link and two additional DLC links pointing back to the main game files The DLC s are basically embedded within the main game files So the links were not important Good thing too because when I add Difficulty deleting a folder named F.E.A.R. the links to be in the backup the backup appears to complete Difficulty deleting a folder named F.E.A.R. but never gives the finished status That makes me question whether I should trust the backup After three attempts to complete with failure I decided to drop the DLC links and just backup the main game files Second attempt is where my issue is at After removing the DLC links the default name for backup is quot F E A R quot Don t ask me why or how the name quot F E A R quot cannot be read from renamed moved or deleted Now the parent folder can be edited and moved but not deleted with the sub-folder quot F E A R quot While trying to backup the game I ve ended up with three of these folders I cannot modify or remove Third attempt was successful once I realized the DLC s links were causing a problem and the default backup name was not a good idea I usually don t have to worry about user permissions with the third party file manager I use I have also booted into Mini XP from Hiren s BootCD and faced the very same problem in a completely different OS Now for the questions Short of deleting the partition do you guys have any ideas as to how I can remove this folder And if you have any idea as to why this particular folder name is causing problems I d really like an explanation After reading comments from quot I can t delete a Steam game backup quot question number one is answered Use a DOS command quot RD S F E A R quot Question number two is still open Why was this an issue to begin with nbsp

A:Difficulty deleting a folder named F.E.A.R.

Precisely HOW are you attempting the delete?
There might be hidden files in the folder or even a hidden folder.

Attempting DEL from a command prompt might work
cd to the directory just above F.E.A.R
then DEL /s /a:h F.E.A.R

Hello everyone
I have windows 7 professional and about a week ago I installed Autodesk 3ds Max 2013 student and teacher version. Unfortunately I did not like the interface of the program so I wanted to get Maya instead. I uninstalled 3ds Max but there are still lots of files in my computer that are to do with the program. I have checked the Autodesk website on how to delete everything on the program but I do not want to risk deleting something that has nothing to do with the program. Instead I installed ccleaner and used that but the files are still in the computer. How do I use ccleaner to delete the Autodesk files and nothing else.

A:Help deleting Autodesk files with CCleaner

CCleaner just cleans temporary files any other clutter your hard drive, not uninstalled program files.
Only do the following if you havent installed Maya yet:
Go to your documents and delete the Autodesk files that are there (about 1 GB saved),. After this, go to my computer, click on the C drive (or whatever primary drive you got), then click on the folder called program files and search for autodesk, delete that whole file, it will prompt for administrative use, click continue. After this, go to the folder named Program files (x86) (there probably isnt anything on this since autodesk is a 64bit program and will install in the program files folder if your PC is 64bit).

Is there any other free apps around that can prevent users from installing all kinds of software, pretty much like Deep Freeze. See I'm running a small internet cafe business, and I hate it when people install all kinds of third-party apps (e.g Yontoo). Kids are regulars here in my cafe and some have no idea what they're doing with the system.

I don't want to use Deep Freeze. I want something simple to use and with much flexibility.

What version of Windows? Win/7 takes care of this by forcing use of the admin/password & the UAC feature.

This is a whole new scenario have been experiencing with my Laptop running Windows 7.
Lately, I have noted the following:
If I delete files/folders, clear them from the recycle bin, use advanced sweeping software( Advanced System Care) or even shredder, they dissapear for that windows session. If I try even searching for them, I cant find them. But when I reboot/restart windows, they reappear intact!
If I also create files/folders during this session or I download new files, I am able to see and copy them I.e interact with them. But when I reboot/restart the PC, the files are nowhere to be seen!!
I do not understand what is happening.
Kindly help if you got any clue

A:Files/folders reappear after deleting and dissappear after rebooting

On the one hand, all your symptoms sound as if you have some type of virtual machine (VM) software running - which restores the windows / disk environment after a reboot. But, it's hard to imagine you'd have one running without any type of message appearing??

Do you recall ever playing with VM software/settings? Or run backup imaging software (like Acronis True Image) which can also run VM type environments.

i have XP SP2 with 2 logical drives, C (10+G) and D(50+G)

C has XP and some data (almost full)
D has almost all data (lot of free space)

i want to combine C and D partition in to one C (60+G)

- what's best way to approach this?
- is there any freeware that do this if not what other application easy ?
- am i going to loose data of any drive, if yes what's alternative?

Appreciate any help on this...

A:Combine XP Partition without deleting data

I don't know if there's a Partition Manager with a single "merge" function but you can accomplish what you want with either of two good freeware products
> EASUS Partition Master or
> Gparted

You would need to Resize the partitions so you make the space to copy the data from one to the other. And then finally Delete the partition you no longer need.

I've never had a problem with Resizing my partitions, but is still a good idea to backup your data before doing the operations to be careful.

if you only have limited account restart computer and keep pressing F8 button and when options show up choose Safe Mode and choose Administrators Account.

Hi all,

a works laptop has gone screwey (it mainly affects the user account) and i need to get the pop3 mail settings etc off that account.
It lets me log in as admin only, albeit very slow and haphazard. It hangs when trying to log in as the user.
Whilst logged in as admin is there any way i can access the users email and export to a .pst so i can then re-import it onto a working laptop? If i log in to the user in safe mode, then try opening outlook it comes up with an error, asking me to restart the program or reinstall.
Using Outlook 2003 on XP Pro SP2 laptop.
Thanks for any help offered

A:Exporting users .pst from Admin account

Just browse to the relevant folder in the user's Documents and Settings..

If it denies access, take ownership of the folder and subfolders.

I have had the issue in the past of people changing my computers passwords and I simply boot from my usb or cd and reset the password. However somehow the password was changed on my LG Flatron N1941w and it has neither a usb port or a cd drive. The only thing I can think of at this point is converting the mouse/keyboard port to usb and booting from that...but there must be a simpler way? any input appreciated

A:Changing admin password without usb/cd capabilities

Did you attempt to boot into Safe Mode?

IF/once you get there,

change the pwd for the admin account(s)
use a better method of picking passwords - -

Also understand that multiple accounts with Admin rights allows any of them to change all passwords - - obviously just not going to work.

In addition, allowing multiple persons to share the same account has the same problem.

Quick question. Hope this is the right forum. When you open a site by clicking run as admin, instead of open. Will it run as admin, for just that time or all times after that?

A:Run as Admin.

Just for that one time, you need to allow it each time unless you change the permissions on it.

Hi all,

I have 3 partitions on my hard drive: Vista, Windows 7, and recovery. My vista partition and 7 partition are each 71gb. I no longer want the vista partition and want to delete everything from the vista partition and add the free space to windows 7 partition. How do I go about doing this when I try to delete the vista partition through the use of the Disk Management tool it says I can't delete it because it is in use when I am not even using that partition? Help please!

A:Deleting a system partition?

OK when your using Win 7 where is your swap file? Is it using the Vista partition? Another thing to take into consideration is your boot loader, I believe it is located in the Vista Partition.

I?m working on a PC running XP pro that had an Admin account on it. I wanted to add another user and was not able to. The PC was on a net work now it?s off the network and in a workgroup. When I was not able to add a user I switched the work group to a different workgroup. Added my new user, in doing that I got an error saying something about enable sharing files. I enabled or disabled can?t remember. At that point I was able to add my user. After I rebooted I no longer had the admin account and the desktop came up with a new screen saver. I did not delete anything. I need some advise to get the admin account back. Thanks!

My friend recently bought a new Windows 8 laptop which she set up in her name and therefore has a passworded Admin account. I also partitioned the HD so that the smaller portion (C) contains the OS and the larger portion (D) is for all her files.

Since I am only using the laptop temporarily my passworded 'standard' user account is located in (C) and cannot be viewed by anybody else, however, I can view my friend's files which are now being stored in 'D'.

Is there a way to protect the files in the 'D' partition in the same manner as if all accounts were on one drive and password protected?

Hey fellow techies!

So here's the lo down: I "downlaoded" (cough cough) Borland C++ Builder 6 and it turns out to be a MS-DOS file. Under "Properties" it says the file size is zero kB. When I try to delete this program, it waits a few moments then comes up with an error saying "Warning. Cannot delete this program. It is being used by another person or program. But it isn't. And TrendMicro PC-cillin detects no virus. Can someone explain this?

PS i got this thing onto my computer from Internet, don't need it anymore, and got it like 1/2 a year ago (just 2 lazy to pot till now come to think of it it just didn't come to my mind 'till now!)

Cold boot in Safe Mode, then try again to remove it. Usually works, using add and remove software.
You will also benefit from running CCleaner... or in some cases, RegClean, or TweakUI... all free.
