PCI Sound card not detected

Q: PCI Sound card not detected

I have an ASUS M4N78 Pro mother brd with build in sound. Window 7 did not detect the on board VIA1708S 8-chan High Definition Audio CODEC.

Current situation
I read Win 7 had problems with mother brd sound chips so I purchased an Auxentech X-Raider 7.1 PCI sound card.
When I attempt to install the Win7 drivers I get a small error window popping up saying " Please plug-in C-Media Audio Device device"

Can anyone help?

Preferred Solution: PCI Sound card not detected

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

mmino, welcome to the forums.

First make sure that the Via onboard is disabled in the bios. Next re-seat the card (maybe even try a different PCI slot) and try the driver again.

So lastly (right around when the anniv. update occured) my sound stopped working on my windows 10 tablet, ive researched it on the web for about a week, reinstalled windows, tried to update the driver but nothing is seems to work. The fact that my tablet is an INSIGNIA NS-P11W7100 is not helping since its a cheap brand and the company doesnt offer help for making their own drivers. One weird thing ive noticed is that ,when i go to control panel->device manager-> audio, video and game controller, it shows.. 2 different sound card Is it normal, what should i try next? Any help would help!

A:[HELP] No Sound Card Detected

Hi, Having a similar problem with a Medion laptop (Intel core duo 1.8GH and 3G ram) annd W7.
The Realtek sound card is showing in Device Manager and shown working correctly and indeed it plays CD or sound from streaming. However in Sound Control Panel the only device for playback is the speakers; and for recording only the microphone is listed. No mention of Realtek. Plugging a USB sound card in gives the same result; in Device mgr but only speakers and mike in Sound. This means I cannot do VOIP or record from streaming directly. I have to link the speaker output by 3.5 mm jacks to Mic input to record streaming. No good for VOIP. VOIP programs state no sound card found. Any ideas please?

I was hoping someone would be able to assist me. I have an ASUS 8An-SLI motherboard with NVIDIA running windows xp 32bit. Recently I had to change out my chipset fan, since then my sound card is not being detected. I have tried to search through device manager, control panel add new hardware, I have gone to asus and nvidia and downloaded drivers - although asus only pointed twoards realtek. A friend of mine built this computer about 4 years ago for me and I'm not sure if the audio is built into the motherboard or not. (the friend is unreachable for any advice) I first noticed no sound when I loaded up winamp and recieved a message saying bad direct sound driver.

Any ideas???

This is really really frustrating me.. blehh I've been trying to fix it since yesterday. After (accidentally) uninstalling stuff, I think I accidentally uninstalled something that made my computer not detect my sound card, only, I don't know what? Now.. I don't know how to fix the problem at all. I was trying to find the sound card's manufacturer, but I couldn't find it (no sound card detected.. ;>.>) Anyway, my computer specs are below, and I just hope someone can help!

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Dell Dimension DIMC521
AMD Sempron(tmm) processor
1.80 GHz, 448 MB Ram

Uhh hope that info helps anyone.

What should I run to make the card operational?

A:Sound Card not detected in Windows 7 x64

Generally, Windows 7 will install a lot of device drivers, but not all drivers and the generic sound driver that Windows installs may or may not work (or work properly). After installing Windows the best option is to reinstall all the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's install disc.

As you have a gigabyte (what I also have) install all the drivers, but you don't need all the extra software, which can cause problems in some cases. Case in point the Gigabyte "easy tune" that came with my motherboard caused sound glitches due to CPU interruptions.

I recently installed XP on my HP laptop after I got tired of Vista. Everything seems to be working fine, except that I can't find the appropriate sound drivers because there is no sound card detected on the laptop. When I run dxdiag, it tells me to download the appropriate drivers, but I downloaded all the drivers on HP's website for my model of laptop (HP Pavillion 9640US) and I still don't have sound. I also don't even know what drivers I even need. Is there a way to find this out?

I have just acquired a creative Audigy 2 Platinum Pro (Model SB0290) from a friend, however Windows can't detect it so I can't install the driver. In device manager a device called Multimedia Audio Controller shows up under Other Devices.

Thanks in advance!

A:Creative sound card not detected

If you haven't done it, disable the Integrated (on the motherboard) audio in the BIOS first. Two audio devices can conflict and cause problems.

The Multimedia Audio Controller is part of the sound device/drivers. When you get the SoundBlaster properly installed that should go away.

On the other hand, the old (and that is an old sound card) card may not work on your Win 7 system or may be defective. Actually, if you have a relatively new PC (or motherboard) the integrated sound on the motherboard is as good or may even be better than the old Audigy 2 sound card.

Hi Guys I recently reformatted my main Hard Drive and reinstalled windows and now my SoundBlaster Live Card does not seem to be working nor does it show up in device manager I tried going through the f setup on system startup and making sure that in the pci slots are enabled I also turned sound on when it was set to off but this only made it so that the integrated audio ports that came with my computer work with less functionality of my speakers but my Soundblaster sound card in the pci slot still does not I might have to disable the sound option again if that disables the sound card but i m not sure that it does considering all it says is sound on off Before the reformat the sound card worked fine so it s not faulty card by any means As mentioned in a similar article at http forums techguy org hardware -sound-blaster-not-detected Sound format being detected after Card not html highlight sound blaster when I put in my disc labeled quot Sound Blaster Sound Blaster Live quot which is for the card s initial drivers it says that there was no Sound Blaster Card detected on my system The article previously mentioned however states that the sound was working from the Sound Card not being detected after format card just not the intallation of the drivers Why would it not be detecting the card if pci slots are for sure enabled in the bios and it worked perfectly fine right before my format I tried installing several different drivers to see if any would pick up the card but to no avail As I said before the card still does not show up in the device manager Any help concerning this matter would be greatly appreciated as I can t seem to think of any way to possibly fix it Could I have forgot something through the reinstallation of windows that would cause this Thanks guys nbsp

A:Philips Sound Card not detected by WinME

Well, I finally solved the problem above by taking out both the sound and network card, and then putting them into each other's slot. This, magically, caused WindowsME to recognize that I did, indeed, install new hardware.

However, now none of the media players I've tried recognize the sound card! I installed the newest drivers and updated Windows Media Player to version 9, but it still gives me the "You don't have a sound thingy installed, so we can't play sound" message when I try and play an MP3. I also tried Musicmatch Jukebox (which came on the Philips CD...ugh...) and that was the biggest barrel of crap I've ever seen. I may try RealPlayer, but last time I did that....well, ME didn't like it.

Any suggestions now? I'm going to see if songs play from within Kazaa (which I haven't uninstalled yet, even though it doesn't work), but I'm won't be surprised if I don't get any sound.

PS: I know the speakers work becuase I did a speaker test from within a program that the Philips CD installed, and sound came out.

It said to disable the away mode system in the bios of my computer. I have looked through my bios but i havent found anything to do with away mode. A small bios actually. A:AMD HDMI output not plugged in,no sound card detected in dxdiag

The AMD HDMI is ONLY for HDMI audio and not for regular PC audio. Unless there is an HDMI cable plugged in, you will get the no cable plugged in notice.

Please post the motherboard manufacturer and model number. Without that I can't say what sound is on the PC's motherboard (for regular PC audio). But, if the PC audio is enabled in the BIOS and is Windows 7 compatible, Windows would install the generic, basic function, HD Audio Driver (Codec) and the PC sound would work. If the sound chip on the motherboard is not Windows 7 compatible (an old Win XP hardware) you will have to install a sound card to have PC audio.

The DX Diag, because the sound is not there, does not help.

I have already disabled onboard sound and tried the other PCI slot (there are 2 PCI slots on the Z68 board), nothing comes up after boot.

I then tried the PCI soundcard on my neighbor's board, a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R and it also does not detect on this board (pheew!)

How is it that this soundcard detects on a prehistoric AGP motherboard and not on either modern boards?

*note* This soundcard is known to act up on my old AGP motherboard when I remove the parts for regular dusting. I am recently encountering problem with my portege a600-128. No wireless network adapters shown, an thus no wifi detection, moreover when using headphones, the realtek HD audio software detects them being plugged-in, but no sound is produced - i was wondering if this last one is a problem due to software or maybe a hardware damage..

Re: wifi, I tried downloading the driver from the site, but nothing changed. Actually, the only adapter shown in the device manager is the toshiba f3507g mobile broadband adapter, and in network connections i can only see that one. Trying to "scan for hardware changes" in the device manager only managed the laptop to realise that my alps pointing device (the touchpad) isn't installed (though it always worked, and still does) - trying to install the tpdrv-20081103180427.ZIP didn't change anything..

Hi buddy,

Have you checked if WLAN connection is enabled using FN+F8 key combination? If your notebook has a WLAN hardware switch, it must be set to ON!
Furthermore I would recommend loading the default settings in BIOS.

Hi everyone.
I have an Alienware 15 R2 (i7 4720HQ, 970M, 16GB, FHD) running windows 10.
I have set it up in desktop mode by connecting it to ASUS MG28UQ 4K monitor, mouse and keyboard. The monitor is connected through the laptop's mini dp port.
The problem is that when I boot up the laptop with the monitor connected, the laptop's internal sound card (SoundBlaster Redcon 3di) does not function, and is not available in the audio playback devices menu. The intel display audio works, though.
But when i shut down the laptop, disconnect the monitor, and then boot it back up, the sound card is detected and functional, and stays funtional even after i connect the monitor to laptop after it has booted. It keeps working until i reboot, after rebooting the same thing happens.
Any ideas what might be going wrong?

Things i tried:
reinstalled sound card driver
windows troubleshoot

Thanks in advance

A:Sound Card not detected when laptop boots up with external monitor (mini dp) connected - Alienware 15 R2 (4720HQ)

First, make sure that the display audio device is not 'disabled' in Device Manager. When connected through HDMI this should be enabled. If it is disabled, try enabling it and see if that resolves the problem.

Second, I would suggest downloading the latest graphics drivers from Intel. This should also update the HDMI audio drivers, and may fix the problem. You may also need 4th Generation or later CPU graphics drivers. You may want to download Intel's driver updater, to automatically search for drivers.

Hiyya Paul mate sounds like (no pun intended) that thump dislodged something on the board just carefully move the I/O output block and see if there is any movement, could be something a simple as dry joint but which is going to be hard to find and fix.

If you have some warranty and I know it is a PITA having to reef it all out again but.....

Personally I have the P8Z77-V and I just stuck an Asus Xonar DG card in the thing and there is no comparison really and you get one heck of a control centre. Not expensive I don't know about where you are but out here $35 so both my Ivy and Sandy Bridges have them.

Hello there! So.. I'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel.

Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

Sound Card is a SB Audigy SE

A:No sound, no sound device detected, drives installed?

I have a similar fault with SB Xtreem Music - downloading the latest driver (2.18.0013) sems to corrupt Windows Audio file and it also prevents me from accessing the Control Panel, do you have this fault? otherwise sound is ok.

Well it's pretty much what the subject says. I was thinking about buying a new soundcard for my computer but my motherboard already has a soundcard built into it. Would there be a way for me to add a new soundcard?

A:new sound card but old sound card built into motherboard

yes of course, all you have to do is disable the mobo sc from the BIOS and install the new one. if you have any software that was installed for the mobo sc just uninstall it and make sure u remove it from the device manager.

My first post so please be patient with me. My PC is a Dell Dimension 8200, (vintage 2002) Pentium 4, 512 cache, 2GB memory, 120GB HD.

I upgraded my OS from Win XP Pro to Win 7 Ultimate in Nov 2010 and my soundcard completely stopped working as being incompatible with Win 7. There are no updating drivers as it is old technology according to the manufacturer (Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz DSP). Went downtown and bought a replacement and when I tried to install it I found that the connectors didn?t match. The salesman said that Dell uses proprietary connectors therefore I must use a Dell card. Dell doesn?t have any for my outdated system.

So my question is: Will a USB soundcard, (such as the Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro or equal) actually solve my problem, i.e., do everything a regular soundcard does? It just sounds too good to be true!

Many thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Did you motherboard come with on-board audio and you added the Turtle Beach sound card or did that sound card come with the PC. Your PC can use a PCI card, not a PCI-express card.

Hi guys,

I desperately need some help. All of a sudden I'm not getting any sound from my system. I have an Asus Xonar D2 installed, windows recognizes it but no sound comes out. Connected speakers, headphones, nothing works. Thought it might be faulty sound card, so I decided to buy a cheap Creative Audigy. Installed hardware and software, Windows recognizes it but still no sound. I'm dumbfounded, no clue what to do.

I re-installed back my Asus Xonar, re-installed software/driver, Windows recognizes (Working Properly) but NO SOUND.

No conflicts in Device Manager.

If it were PCI/MB failure I would assume that Windows won't be able to detect it.

Any ideas, cause now I'm going crazy.

PS. Re-installed Windows as well. Nothing works

You need to reinstall the sound card drivers. When it comes up and says found new hardware you need to put the driver disk in the drive. If this is a HP Dell or Compaq you might need to just have the system find the drivers for you.

Please follow the below mentioned steps to set the Headphone as the default device:

Open Control Panel and select Sound.

Verify if the Headphone is listed and the right sound card listed under playback devices.
If so, right click the Headphone device and click on default playback device.
If they are not listed, Right click on the blank space and click on show disabled device.
If the Headphone gets listed,
Right click the “Headphone” select “Enable”. Right click the “Headphone” again and select “Set as default device” from the same list.
Click “Ok”. Now remove and reconnect the Headphone and check.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

First. Go into your bios, and disable your onboard sound, and save and exit bios.

Once your computer has booted up, go into contol panel, and double click the sounds and audio devices icon.

Click on the audio tab, and set the sound playback device to your new soundcard.

Do the same for the sound recording device. Click on the voice tab and do the same. Click apply/ok.

Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for your new soundcard, and that your speakers are plugged into the new soundcard.

A:Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX Sound Card, no playback/recording

First thing, I assume you have correctly attached your speakers to the new SoundBlaster.

As you have a separate sound card, did you disable any on-board (on the motherboard) audio in the BIOS? If not, that is the first step. The on-board, is still enabled, can conflict with the SoundBlaster.

Also, temporarily disable the AMD HD audio in the Device Manager for testing (the AMD is for HDMI audio). Reboot after doing this.

Finally, although this has may not have any affect on playback, the default recording device should be the SoundBlaster "What You Hear". In the Recording sound panel, RIGHT click in an empty area and then check to show Disconnected and Disabled devices. If the SoundBlaster was installed correctly What You Hear should now show up and you can enable it and make it the default recording device.

SR resulted in some lost Driver/Controller files, including ethernet and sound card. I have recovered all Driver/Controller files-- and everything is working except for sound.

I have uninstalled Creative Audigy Audio Processor (through Device Manager) and reinstalled (through Found New Hardware). I have run dxdiag, only to find "device cannot start" under problem devices/sound card.

Any suggestions on how to get this to work again? I cannot use System Restore to go back to when it was working, because that would take me back to all the virus/trojan infections and nothing was working.

Any help would be appreciated~

Hello to you all!

I've been having problems with my sound card (in the title) and that problem is that I cannot hear any sound come out of it but the strange thing is the little green bar that indicates sound is coming through and how loud it is keeps going up and down as I play music.

Anyway the strange thing is the windows default sound thingy works perfectly fine, if any of oyu kind people could help me that would be fantastic!

I'm looking to buy the Creative Lab Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX sound card, but I'm not sure how compatible it is with my current system, which is an HP Pavilion 7960. It says you need an available adjacent slot to the PCI card for the Audigy extension, which I don't know what it means.

Also, I saw a picture of it online and I see that it comes with two cards and a black box. I figure that one card is supposed to be the actual sound card, and the other is this mysterious Audigy extension. But what is the black box?

A:S/PDIF Optical out - No sound from receiver (onboard and sound card)

although the xonar panel will control almost all functions for that, make sure that windows has it's default audio device set to the spdif card you want. If it's set to speakers HD AUDIO (hd audio being one of the cards you want) will only output through analog. Control Panel>hardware and sound>sound. Select the card that you want and make sure u select one of the options that also says spdif. Click set default, apply and it should work. Sorry if you have already tried this. But it's the first thing that comes to mind right now.

my lenovo laptop was running fine but all of a sudden the sound started twist bugging (sound sound card?) out laptop strange + freaking out and about every laptop sound bugging out + strange twist (sound card?) second or so the sound would cut out and cut back in ex im playing a video and the people are talking but it sounds like quot th--- is h--- fin---- compu---- quot or something like that the weird part is the speakers arent working but when i plug in my headphones sound starts working out of the speakers while the headphones are plugged in with no sound coming out of the headphones and thats pretty strange but it gets stranger pretty much anything plugged into the audio jack would make the speakers start working even if it is just an adapter for another thing and not even a headphone so i checked the sound in the control panel and i said that it quot could not detect sound card restart and it will try to find it quot or something so i restarted and the problem still happened but this time the control panel says that quot your device is working properly quot when its obviously not ive looked on the microsoft support page and followed the instructions no help lenovo support no help ive tried running a troubleshoot on the audio playback but it said that it could not detect the problem ive checked the device manager and under the video sound and game controllers it has listed quot Conexant SmartAudio HD quot and quot Intel R Display Audio quot and they both are listed as quot working properly quot nope im guessing one of these is the integrated audio processor because laptops dont normally have quot sound cards quot but the they do have the above not sure what to do ive consulted some of my more tech minded friends and they consistently say its probably an audio card error but dont know how to fix it sigh hopefully i can get some help here

The problem might just be the new board, it may not support the sound card, or maybe it really isn't plugged in all the way.

Happened to me with my Firewire card took me forever to put the dump thing in I keep pushin and pushin, but not to hard because you'll break the card and you don't want to do that.

so just keep pushin slowly it may look like it is in but it probably really isn't

I hope creative can help you with your problem.

Or ot may be the new processor/ board combination, why didn't you just get the Atholon 64 instead of the Septeron 64.

I don't think many cards are compatible with that

Seeing that you have posted in the Hardware Sound Forum, where you will be more than likely able to get a solution to your problem, I am closing this thread.
The reason for this is, that multiple posting about the same issue tends to confuse the issue; especially when they are in two different forums.
Not many of the Windows Tech Team Members venture into the Sound Forum, and vis-a-vis with the Hardware Tech team.

It isn't always comes and goes, but it's pretty ugly. I thought it might be a sample rate thing, but I changed those settings in control panel.

Anyone use that card with vista successfully?

A:distorted sound in vista/createiv x-fi titanium sound card

I had a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic in my rig and I constantly had distorted audio - manifesting in the form of 'crackly', echoing sounds. Really frustrating, I tried all kinds of solutions including a clean uninstall of the audio drivers, replugging the sound card in a different PCI slot, etc. For a while everything would be fine, and then back into crunchy-sound-land...

My rig used to have Windows XP Pro as the OS, and the sound card worked perfectly. It was only after I changed the OS to Vista that the woes began.

This is probably not the solution you want to hear, but after 2 years of despair I flogged the card on eBay and bought myself an Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1 card. Although that is still an X-Fi it works beautifully in Vista, absolutely no problem with the sound since.

I recently purchased a 5 1/4" multimedia panel for my computer. Their are 4 ports on the front for hooking up mic and speakers (left, right, center) but the pins to hook to my motherboard or sound card are single pins. I have a ATI Diamond 7.1 channel sound card with 2 standard ports for hooking up other sources for sound. I have no manual for the card and unable to find anything online on how to hookup the individual pins to my sound card. Can anyone help??

A:Connecting sound pins from front panel to sound card

I can't find any detailed information. In any case, I don't know why you would want separate speaker outputs on the front panel. Most of the bay panels I've seen have standard features like mic in, headphone out, and misc other connections like USB, Firewire, etc.. I've not seen any with individual (ie: left speaker, right speaker, center speaker) connections, and it would clutter your front panel having all of the those cables hanging.

First I plugged the adapter, then my external drive light up, after a few moments it made a weird clicking sound.
While plugged at my laptop, it's installing like it's new.. I don't know what to do and I want to back up my files

I searched here in the forums for possible solution.. but nothing here is a screen shot on devices and printers.

but I can't see it on My Computer It's not making any weird sounds now, Just on first open. And the led light is still on. Hope you can help me out. Thank you and Good Day!

A:WD My Book clicking sound and not being detected

I hate to be the bearer of bad news; but; usually whenever a hard drive makes a clicking noise such as what you mentions yours is doing; it means there is a internal hardware issue with the drive and the drive is probably dead unfortunately. You can try removing it from the devices section of the system section of the device manage via the control panel and see if you can get it to re-detect it; but again; generally whenever there is a clicking sound unfortunately it means the drive is most likely toasted.

I see that there are a lot of people no No sound? detected, audio device here that are having the same problem This is what I found that restored my soundProblem- Under Sound and Audio Devices No audio device detected, no sound? on the Control Panel No Audio Device under the Volume tab- Device installed properly in Device Manager- Some audio in some No audio device detected, no sound? programs I was able to get it to work properly in Windows Media Player before a complete fix by going to Tools - gt Options - gt Devices - gt Speakers - gt Properties - gt Select your sound card - Various driver solutions new old from manufacturer install CD etc don t workOther symptoms I experienced which other seekers might find useful- Using run - gt dxdiag go to the Sound tab and Test DirectSound My results were DirectSound test results Failure at Step DirectSoundCreate HRESULT x a - It didn t matter what sound card I used onboard No audio device detected, no sound? or an add-in PCI card- The BIOS settings for the onboard sound were correct and disabled when using the add-in PCI card- WMP would return an error before I used the above fix of C D BAThe solution that fixed it for me - run - gt services msc - Find the Windows Audio service - If it s set to Manual or Disabled there s your problem Right-click on it to pull up the properties and set it to Automatic If the service was set to Manual it s an on-demand setting which might explain why some users were able to use sound after a driver install flicks service on but not after a reboot no installation program to flick the switch It would explain Creative diagnostics getting sound too - Start the service and hopefully you ll get sound

I recently bought an EPoX EP- RDA Pro motherboard when my old one died and purchased a Logitech X- set of surround sound correctly detected isn't 5.1 sound being surround speakers last week I m sure that everything has been connected correctly according to the documentation each individual speaker is plugged into the subwoofer correctly and the three connectors are all plugged into the appropriate color coded jacks on the motherboard I used the provided sound utility provided with the motherboard to configure and test the speakers I m 5.1 surround sound isn't being detected correctly not getting anything at all out of the front left right speakers but the rear front center speakers and the subwoofer are working perfectly fine I checked the 5.1 surround sound isn't being detected correctly autodetect part of the sound utility and it s saying that 5.1 surround sound isn't being detected correctly the front speakers are being detected as a line input device As far as I can tell the speakers aren t defective I can plug each set individually into my iPod and get sound from them and they work fine when I used the provided adapter to hook it up to my PS I ve reinstalled the motherboard drivers and looked around in Windows sound settings no progress I d like to contact EPoX support for it but as far as I can tell they require the S N off of the motherboard and it s going to be a pain to get to it so if there s any easier possibility to try I m game nbsp
