Windows 7 - touch screen

Q: Windows 7 - touch screen

Hi

I understand with the correct specs, drivers, vid card (and monitor?) that Win7 PCs can have touch screen capability.

The HP TouchSmart IQ545a already has that, with Vista.

If I am in the markert for a new PC, and WANT at least the ability to have a WIN7 Upgrade voucher for future use AND want touchscreen capability, what do I specifically look for spec-wise?

In other words, are there any presently available PCS apart from the HP, that CAN have the touchscreen capabilty when on Win7. And is the HP TouchSmart IQ545a upgradable to Win7, anyone know, that would then retain touchscreen capability post-upgrade?

Gee, I hope that was clear!

Tks

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 - touch screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

To start i must say touch screen has been around since late xp days. Its just that Win7 is slightly optimized for touch screens.

Then in regards about the upgrade. You can wait about 25-30 days for the PC's running Win7 to hit the shelves(that way you don't have to mess with the install, hoping drivers work, etc.), or you can go buy a Pc that has an upgrade through the pc's manufacturer which can take months to receive back.

My Ideapad S415 touch screen has suddenly stopped working.  I've had a tech connect to my PC and try a BIOS reload of default settings, plus unistalling all "HID" devices in Device Manager with no resolution.  I've also tried a system restore with no luck. The system properties does see the touch capability. Suggestions? Thanks.

A:Ideapad S415 Touch - touch screen stopped working

hi Hersh,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

First do a Power Drain
     (If the battery is removable)
Remove AC and Battery and hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Turn the computer back on and see if the Touch capability is now detected under System Properties,
                  If not
I suggest you contact Lenovo Technical Team about the Issue as this may be a device detection issue.

A:Logitech Touch Mouse 400 for a Laptop with no touch screen

Sorry I can't answer your question, but this post piqued my interest. I use the Logitech 620 touch mouse on a Windows 7 box at work. I find a little touchy and has to tweaked. But I haven't tried the 620 on Windows 8. Because I'm always looking for the perfect mouse, I think I might just pick up the 400 tonight and let you know.

A:Lenovo S210 Touch broken LCD and Touch screen

Hi Magnutus, welcome to the forums.

Please check if you Lenovo S210 is on warranty under with this tool.
After that you can open a ticket with Lenovo for the screen to be fixed, if it is not under warranty it will have a cost.

If you are the guys that like to fix it yourself (and it is not under warranty) I can recommend you to check the support site for your model, read the Hardware Maintenance Manual (on the documents area) and check how the machine is organized on the inside. On the parts lookup page you can find the parts number so you can find a replacements for the component that is giving you issues.

I hope this links helps you.

Yesterday I was on my laptop and before I shut it down it went into what looked like a different mode. I booted it up this morning and it is still in this mode. It looks like touch screen mode but I do not have a touch screen.  The icons on the task bar are spaced out and there is a back button on the task bar too which is not normally there. When i right click against the task bar, one of the buttons says "Show touch keyboard button".  All of my files are spead out as if to have room for touching if I had a touch screen but I do not. I am finding this very annoying because I cannot get onto my desktop properly and is not in the right mode. Please help!

Hello @JeffJadoo, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! The Forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I understand that you are having an issue with the Touch Screen, and wanted to assist you! Did the notebook originally ship with Windows 10?  How did you go about formatting the notebook, and installing Windows 7?  You may be able to use the Recovery Manager to restore the drivers, however, based on how you installed Windows, the Recovery Partition may already be removed.  You can also try reviewing the following document, to see if the information helps: HP Notebook PCs - Touch Screen Issues (Windows 8) Please post back with the results.  It is possible that the Touch Screen may not be supported for Windows 7 on that particular notebook. Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution", this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for.  Also, clicking the Thumbs up below is a great way to say thanks! Have a great day!

I have a Dell SX2210T touch screen monitor that worked with my Dell computer and then with a replacement computer running Windows 8 & 8.1. Then along came Windows 10 and my monitor has no touch capability. Even the monitor driver/s have disappeared. Device Manager lists no touchscreen device. I tried to get a driver from the Dell site, but this proved to be a no, no as I just went round in circles and never got a driver.

Does any one know how I can resolve this annoying problem? I don't have any software to reinstall from . OR... do I just forget touch screen ability?

Microsoft has just announced that MS-Windows 7 (I like the name Borg) will have a touch screen feature to it. We know that from the Longhorn/Vista over promising and then cutting features out like WINFS. So if MS really wants a late 2009 early 2010 release will MS cut features again just to get it out the door? Or will Windows 7 really just be Windows Vista 1.2 ie service pack 2 of Vista. I think it will be just Vista Service pack 2 with a few newer features for newer devices. MS knows people hate vista but i love it since i can now cheat at solitare and when you copy files and a file is in use it now asks you what you want it to do instead of just crapping out on you.

A:Windows 7 What Will the Touch Screen Be Cut?

I don't actually know where you're going with this...

We don't know much about Windows 7 yet do we?
Vista also looked a hell like XP on Milestone 1, but look what it became!

So Windows 7 will be a lot more different than the first picture we saw.

(I love wasting my time with Solitaire )

There's probably a sticky for this somewhere or something, but I can't find it, so here goes.

Just got a new laptop which came with windows 8, It's an Asus Zenbook UX302LG. I tried Windows 8 a bit during the developer preview, but I'm really not that familiar with things, anywho. So this has a touch screen, and I've been using it a fair bit, but I'm curious about 8.1. Being the "newer" version", from what I've seen it has some improvements over regular 8 in some areas, like the apps screen looks a little tidier. What I'm wondering though is does it also remove some of the touch features I would be using with a touch screen? Or just make them more mouse friendly. Long story short, given I have a touch screen which I am using, should I upgrade to Windows 8.1? Or will I have a better experience with regular 8?

A:Windows 8 or 8.1 on Touch Screen Ultrabook

You should upgrade IMO. You certainly will not lose any touch capabilities.

Features shown in Compare Windows 8.1 Editions where it says (new) are not available on 8.

My touch screen randomly won't work, only to find that it's disabled in Device Manager. "USB Input Device" is what it shows up as. I believe it's a software I have installed that may be interfering. Help would be very much appreciated!

A:Touch screen being disabled, since Windows 8

Click on the search button and type Control. This will give you the desktop (classic) version of Control Panel. Click to open it. Click View as Large icons to see all controls rather than groups. Click on Programs and Features. Let it finish loading and then examine the list carefully. You should be able to identify any utility relative to the touch screen. Uninstall it and see if your screen works now.

Your problem probably arises since there is a conflict between the utility trying to enable the touch feature and Windows own method for that.

I'm having trouble with my touch screen
It worked great at first...then I tried to make it better by...

1) playing around in the gesture options...(task pane)
2) installing synaptic drivers
3) playing around in the touch calibration settings
Now the touch indicator is always 5cm to the "Left" of where I "tap".
ONLY with fingers...
...........

1) the trackpad on the keyboard works.
2) the external (USB) mouse works.
3) the stylus pen works

....................................

At this point I think it would be very difficult to "re-trace" my steps...
Especially since the windows 8 "settings" are scattered all over the Metro and Desktop interface...
....................................

How can I restore the default Touch settings to my device?
Where can I download windows 8 drivers... for "Surface pro"
All I seem to find are HP, Acer, Samsung etc...
Does Mircosoft have any drivers for their self made "surface"?

Thanks.

A:Windows 8 (Surface Pro) Touch Screen Issues..

K I fixed it...5min after posting

In (desktop mode) control panel...
"Calibrate screen for pen and touch input"
Select "reset"
and it works again

Windows Store and Store Apps were not functioning after the Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 update, so I attempted a fresh install of Windows 10. After successfully completing the update, the touch screen driver vanished, and the touch screen (and sound) stopped functioning. After runing the HP system tests, I found that all touch functions work fine outside of the Operating System (sound test failed), but would not work once windows began booting up. Device manager shows a single Unknown Device with the Device ID: ACPI\INT3401\0The Unknown Device reported the problem code: 0000001C Thank you in advance for your assistance.-Sayin

Hey guys.. Latest is Microsoft launching the newer version of Windows OS at Taipei. What's interesting about this interface is the tile-based interface. Software leader assumes it to be perfect for boosting tablet PCs world. This is really a 'Re-imagining' of windows, as declared by the MS because it has the capability of running small-screen computers, touch-screen and large screen computer systems. What do you think? Will it bring revolution or will turn out to be a bad move?

See the detailed news here
http://www.itnews.com/tablet-pcs/33021/microsoft-unveils-touch-oriented-windows-8?page=0,0

Cheers,

A:Microsoft launched Windows 8 for Touch-Screen

I think that the move is quite interesting. Since the operating system uses a tablet interface and also the capability of running legacy applications with a traditional Windows interface I think that we're going to see an increase in the number of hybrid tablets. Much like the Asus transformer. Also, because of the touch optimisation perhaps we will see an increase in large touch screen desktops like the Vaio L all-in-one.

It's a risky move, but I'm betting that it's going to be a revolution.

Three times when Windows 10 has done its updates, the touch screen has quit working on my Yoga 3. The first time, tech support had me remove several drivers which did not solve the solution, but caused the computer to no longer work. After restoring the system all worked well, but a few weeks later when the touch screen no longer worked again. Once again, the only solution tech support could offer was to restore the system, which I did again. After reinstalling all my apps, all was well until the next update. Now I again no longer have a touch screen. It's a big chore to reinstall all programs. I don't really want to do it again. Anybody else had problems like this. Is this a hardware problem in this particular computer? I can't find others with the problem.

I'm having the same trouble.  It worked for a few weeks after the Windows 10 update, but now I can't get it to respond to anything.  It's very frustrating, because this effectively nulifies the tablet capabilities which were a big part of why I chose this computer.

Go to the manufacturer of your system and download the video card drivers for your device. Windows supports touch screens, but it can't do it without the drivers for the touch screen.

Will the "NextWindow Voltron Touch Screen" driver (version 3.1.12.6, 2/4/2013)--firmware--whatever, EVER be updated to restore Touch Screen functionality in the HP TouchSmart 300-1020 all-in-one computer?  After upgrading to Windows 10, Touch Screen functionality is gone, Gone, GONE.  (I do realize it is an older model, and so I hold little faith the Touch Screen functionality can be restored; however, IF IT WILL one day happen, please advise.)  Thanks a bunch! PS (to save time)   Same question for the "HP Camera" driver (version 10.0.10586.0, 6/21/2006)--firmware--whatever.  The HP Camera also does not function after Windows 10 upgrade.  Thanks again!!

A:touch screen on windows 10 wont work

I request you to boot the PC to BIOS and test the touchscreen in BIOS. To boot the PC to BIOS, first turn off the PC completely. Keep tapping ESC on startup. You would get a startup menuPress F10 to get into BIOS. do not keep the PC in mute. Touch the screen in BIOS, the PC should beep.  If the PC beeps in BIOS (system utility), the touch screen is fine and you are facing a driver or a software issue. If the PC does not beep in BIOS, when you touch the screen, there is a issue with the display/touchscreen. Considered as a hardware issue (service or display replacment might be required). Please share the product number of your PC. This will help get the specification of your PC and I can give further suggestions.  ****Click the White thumb to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

Tonight I upgraded from Windows 8 whereby my touchscreen worked perfectly to Windows 10 whereby my touchscreen on my HP Envy laptop is totally non-responsive. Is there a fix for this problem? Does HP have a new driver or software that will fix this problem? Is this a Microsoft problem that we have to wait until and update? I have read where others have experienced the same. I cannot imagine Microsoft not supporting touch screens since it is required in tablets, phones and many cross over laptops and computer monitors these days. Please help

I updated to Windows 10 Aniversary Edition a couple of days ago and lost the use of the touch screen. I have done some research and found that the HID compliant touchscreen is no longer showing up as a Human Interface Device in my device manager. Is there a way I can re-download this or is there another way to get my touchscreen to work again?

The touch screen is non-responsive on Windows 10 Enterprise 64 bit Version 1607 also known as Windows 10 Anniversary edition. the monitors worked fine with Version 1511. This is in an Enterprise IT environment. 5 different desktop systems using this same model of monitor exhibit the same issue. Desktop systems with Acer Touch Screen monitors work perfectly.  So far I have downloaded the driver update sp73334. I have also tried using the display assistant sp74896.exe. I have logged a call with the display assistant software vendor, and they indicate that they only help with the display, not the touch screen. The display works fine at the correct resolution.

So I have got a Lenovo Y50-70 with 15.6" 3840x2160 UHD Touch Display for about two years now. I've accidentaly dropped my backpack, while the laptop was in it and cracked it's screen so I need to replace it. The screen in the cracked part is working as it was working before the accident, the crack is on the glass. So I was wondering if I can replace my 15.6" 3840x2160 UHD Touch Display with a 15.6" 1920x1080 FHD Non-touch Display? Is it possible?I've read that whether screen you are changing, its working depends on the quantity of pins on the Video signal connector.

hello, my computer had a Windows update today, and now the touchscreen (which was fully functional before the update) is not working.  it is not the screen, as this happened once before to me and I did a system restore to fix it.  I tried a system restor this time, didn't work.  I looked in the Device Manager, and there IS NO DRIVER for my touchscreen.  how do I reinstall, it is NOT listed in the driver list on the HP website for my product.  help! Ivan

After upgrading to Windows 10, my Pavilion 23tm touch screen monitor lost the touch feature.  I looked for a driver on the HP website and it required me to download the HP Support Assistant app.  That is, the site would not simply allow me to download a driver update.  After downloading HP Support Assistant and running this app, it did not find the Pavilion 23tm monitor, so I hit a dead end.  I believe I just need to be able to download the most recent driver, but the HP site won't allow this.

Hi there @jazzquilt?,Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having trouble with your touchscreen display after upgrading to Windows 10, and that you installed the HP Support Assistant to help, but the problem remains. I am happy to assist. On looking up the model of the display, I did find a Windows 10 driver, linked below. Give it a try, if you haven't already.HP 23tm LCD Monitor - Windows 10 Driver Please let me know how that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

I have an acer aspire M3 581T-6405 series ultrabook, but my screen is broken. Can I replace it with a touch screen from an Acer Aspire M5-583P-6428? Whether the touch screen works as a touch screen or not is irrelevant I just want to be able to use my laptop.

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite Click 10 tablet which runs Windows 10 home. I am looking to purchase a fine point stylus with USB charging capability (similar to this one Amazon.com: Stylus Pen, BoxWaveŽ [AccuPoint Active Stylus] Electronic Stylus with Ultra Fine Tip for Smartphones and Tablets - Jet Black: Electronics).

I don't need pressure sensitivity, it is for making very simple diagrams and highlighting text in some applications. It is an item I envisage using maybe once or twice a week. I don't want one that has a plastic disk on the end.

I noticed quite a few have a battery that only last 12 hours so looking for something which is rechargeable.

My budget is "as little as possible" but could realistically extend to the ~US$50 mark.

Does anyone have experience with a stylus that they can recommend?

Any thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi I have Dell E T monitor attached to Intel NUC Originally the base install was Windows -bit but due to the automatic updates it was updated to Windows Obviously it is not possible to revert operating system to Windows Nevertheless everything worked correctly until recently when new updates from Microsoft were automatically installed in Windows Monitor works correctly but the quot click quot on the touch screen does not work Simply saying - I can move windows but cannot press any buttons For it is not hardware fault - when attaching monitor to older laptop with Windows both monitor and touch screen works properly I learned on the other threads that Dell states that Windows is quot not supported quot for this monitor and recommends revert to Windows The question is - is how it can be As Microsoft no Touch E2014T 10 in Screen no after properly works updates longer Windows longer supports Windows and Windows will be no longer supported in a year and months from now how it can be that Dell has not released any driver for MS Windows Does it mean that Dell is dropping now all users who bought this monitor I can understand that Dell may be dropping old and unsupported operating systems but in this case Microsoft forces all users to migrate to Windows so users have no other choice than to migrate E2014T Touch Screen no longer works properly in Windows 10 after updates Can anyone in Dell take a look at this issue and release new driver for Windows Obviously the problem is going to affect ALL USERS OF DELL E T MONITOR on January the latest as on this date Microsoft officially stop supporting Windows Thanks in advance for reply Regards Artur

Try installing the Win 8.1 drivers available Here--
www.dell.com/.../drivers
Dell is not abandoning those upgrading to 10, just cannot make new drivers for 10. Win 10 has compatible win 10 drivers for almost all hardware.
Before installing Dell drivers, try updating the ones you have by opening Device Manager and see if windows 10 has a better update.
