nVidia GeForce 8500 GT Dual Screen ?

Q: nVidia GeForce 8500 GT Dual Screen ?

I recently got a projector from a friend and im trying to setup dual screen.

First of all im a bit confused by the Graphics Card itself. I looked for pictures of the card which my computer recognizes as a nVidia GeForce 8500 GT and none have a HDMI port but mine does. So i opened the case and the card has ATI and Foxconn written on it but nothing with nVidia on it.

I have a HDMI to VGA cable which im trying to use to go to my monitor but when i plug it in while switched on i get nothing on the monitor but the projector still works and if i plug it in then boot I get no output on my monitor and just just a black screen and the mouse pointer on my monitor.

I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Mermiatwd, welcome to the forum. I suggest that you try Revo Uninstaller free version to see if it solves you problem.  I use the Advanced option.  It removes the program from the HDD and the remnants from the BIOS.  I have used it for years with great success with removing those difficult to remove programs. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Guys for some reason when i had my 7800 GT it was an awesome graphics card and it was really amazing and it blows my 8500 into the dust. I really dont know why i mean cause the 7800 GT is old now and it was pretty expensive but still runs games pretty good, but my 8500 runs a game pretty decent but not was well as my 7800 did. Guys can someone please help me out and explain to me the difference between the two and why one is better and one is not. I'm considering returning it and waiting for a better graphics card than the 8800 Ultra.

What is the normal running voltage for the Nvidia 8500 GT? When I check the Nvidia Monitor program it says under the voltages section PCI-E 1.400v and has a red square next to it. I noticed that when I brought my ram up to its optimum voltage level its square changed from red to green.

Should I increase the voltage to the GPU? If so, to what value?

A:BFG Nvidia Geforce 8500 gt voltage

Well Dave, many times red means too much voltage instead of too little. I'm not sure of the setting here, but I would suggest proceeding with great caution. If GPUs are like most CPUs in their voltage requirements, then 1.4 volts seems a tad on the high side, but that's just a guess..

Maybe another member will have a more definite answer for you, so hang loose for a while.

i wanted to install my nvidia geforce 8500 video driver in windows 2000 but there are no compatible drivers for it.i tryed searching for nvidia forceware but there is nothing compatible.please help?

A:windows 2000 and my nvidia geforce 8500

Creating a driver for a modern video card is a major undertaking which only the manufacturer will do. If Nvidia doesn't list a driver it is highly likely that none exists. Windows 2000 currently has very small user base and writing a driver for it is not worth the effort. You could try an XP driver but I doubt it would work.If you must use Windows 2000 you will need to obtain a compatible video card.

Hey guys

So i have had a Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT for a while now, and it's worked fine until a few days ago. When i try to turn my monitor on it says that i am not getting a signal. i have tried 2 monitors and i can still use the inboard graphics card to see what's on my monitor although most of the files for it's use are gone.

if anyone could give me some hints on if it's the graphics card, the mobo, or the PCI-e slot, I'd really appreciate the help.

Can you give the rest of your system's specs?

Also, if you have another computer with a PCI-e slot, try the video card in it and see if it works there, or put a different video card into your current computer.

A:nVidia GeForce 8500 GT, drivers won't install

Download the driver from NVIDIA's site.

You might need a bios update for the motherboard if there is no standard vga in the display adapter section of the device manager. Install the latest one.

Also in the bios, disable all unused ports like floppy, serial, parallel, com.... etc..

I play counter strike 1.6, and was using a geforce 6100 integrated which posed no problems. this card also ran half-life 2. i tried however to run half-life 2 episode 1 and the game lagged. not much, but enough to ruin playing the game. so i installed a geforce 8500 gt i had lying around. upon trying hl2 e1 again all lagging had disappeared, but im seeing high resolution graphic gritches both in the game menu and the maps themselves. this problem is also effecting counter-strike 1.6 in the same way.
any ideas anyone?

A:Recently installed Nvidia Geforce 8500 GT problems

Well, there's three things I would check:

#1 - Make sure that you're using the newest drivers from Nvidia's website.

#2 - Even though the 8500 is a relatively low-power card, it still requires a 300watt PSU with 18amps on the 12v rail. If your PC is underpowered, it can cause glitches.

#3 - What are the temperatures of the card when operating? You can check these in the Nvidia control panel.

How to setup dual monitors to Dell xps 8700 ?
1 GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 635 DDR3

A:1 GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 635 DDR3 -Dual Monitors

Thank you for reaching out to us. NVIDIA GeForce GT 635 DDR3 Graphics card has 3 Ports at the back.
You can connect the primary monitor to the VGA [blue] and Secondary monitor to HDMI [middle] or DVI [extreme right] ports.

If the second monitor does not have DVI/VGA/HDMI ports, you will need to buy a DVI-VGA adapter or HDMI-VGA adapter accordingly.
Once both monitors are connected they will start getting signal.
Press the Windows logo key + P on your keyboard and then select the correct option according to your needs.
Right-click any empty area of your desktop, and then click Screen resolution.
Click the multiple display drop-down list and then select the option according to your needs.
On the same page you can set the resolution for both the monitors for optimum performance.
Hope this helps.

I have a Quadro FX 3700M card on my workstation for various CAD programs.. I am searching for a way to perform a software or hardware modification so I can play games and run other programs requiring a GeForce card.
Is there any way to possibly run two non-similar graphics cards side by side, or task designated/sharing?
So I could actually run CAD software on the dedicated Quadro, while relying on an externally connected GeForce card for all other media, pics, music, games, etc?
Any other money saving solutions besides buying/building a desktop?
I?m on a 64bit Vista workstation (soon to be Windows 7 or Ubuntu w/ a Windows VirtualBox) 3GHz Intel Quad Core 2 with 4GB RAM from Xi Computers.

I am having the same problem with my monitors. I have 1 with vga, and 1 with DVI. The VGA works on both monitors, but the dvi does not on either. Windows recognizes the monitor attached to dvi, and allows me to extend the display, but the monitor with DVI connection says no signal, and remains black. I can even drag windows from one monitor to the next and back, but nothing appears on the monitor. The problem is not the monitor as both work just fine with the vga connection. Unfortunatly there is only 1 vga on the video card.

A:Dual Nvidia geforce 9600gts good idea?

It's called SLI. Make sure your MB supports SLI and you have 2 PCI slots. If when running 2 slots it defaults each to x8, you will lose performance. You would be better served to buy 1 high quality GPU, depending on your actual hardware. There are power issues as well. Here is a link on 2 SLI 9600's for some reference:

A:Dual Monitor with a VGA splitter using NVIDIA GeForce 6800

A splitter will only clone the monitors and will probably only register the first.
Your 6800 should have dual outputs.
Depending on the connectors and the monitor, you may need a DVI to VGA
adapter to connect to the second output.

My computer went to sleep yesterday while running Sims4, since awakening there has been a blue tint to the screen at all times when booted into windows.
When in BIOS, POST, safe mode, or with only windows VGA drivers installed, the blue tint does not appear. After reinstalling drivers, the blue tint immediately reappears.
I have tried doing clean uninstallation and reinstallation of drivers. I have tried multiple cables and different output ports on the GPU.
When using the NVIDIA Colour Settings, if I turn up the gamma all the way until it meets the grey line on the slider (which is created by the brightness slider), the blue tint goes away but then the screen is incredibly washed out due to the high gamma setting.
I run Windows 7, and have tried the most recent drivers and several outdated drivers. Programs run fine, games run fine, no frame drops and no other issues other than the blue tint.

Here is a big review comparing all the GeForce series cards and the ATI and series cards by Scott Wasson April http tech-report com reviews q ati-nvidia index x pg I ve been around D graphics on the PC since the 8500 4 between ATI and vs. in everything GeForce beginning GeForce 4 vs. ATI 8500 and everything in between and it s hard not to like what we re seeing here from top to bottom Even the slowest card of the bunch the Radeon is breakneck fast at mid-level screen resolutions The Radeon and GF MX can t always cut it when all of the next-gen graphics features are turned up Then again they performed pretty well in the Comanche demo so maybe vertex and pixel shaders won t be as necessary as we had once thought I wouldn t bank on that though If you can afford it move up to a card with real vertex and pixel shaders One of the most striking results of our tests is how GeForce 4 vs. ATI 8500 and everything in between much performance NVIDIA is able to wring out of a given hardware spec The GeForce MX card has a lower clock speed and slower RAM than the Radeon but it outperforms the more often than not especially in fill rate-limited scenarios like high resolutions You d think that with faster RAM the Radeon would be faster in such situations Similarly the GF Ti matches the Radeon clock-for-clock but the Ti is faster nearly across the board Obviously NVIDIA s bandwidth conservation methods like the GF line s crossbar memory controller and occlusion detection abilities are much more effective than ATI s The GeForce has the same basic set of bandwidth-saving features as the GF line but those features are greatly improved in the GeForce Ti The progress is most evident when antialiasing is in use The GeForce Ti cards are practically magic when it comes to antialiasing I thought the line about turning on X AA and not seeing any performance drop was just a marketing spiel Turns out that spiel is mighty close to the truth The GeForce Ti series doesn t bring a whole lot of new D technology to the scene but the refinements since the GeForce deliver gobs of real-world performance VisionTek s Ti card pretty much blew away everything else in our tests It s really no contest If you want the fastest card on the planet get a Ti That said ATI has some very solid products in the Radeon series Right now there s a gaping hole in the middle of NVIDIA s product lineup because the GF MX is apparently stillborn I challenge you to find a GF MX for sale anywhere Its apparent replacement the GF Ti isn t quite here yet ATI forced NVIDIA s hand with the Radeon LE MB which is a bargain at or less Even after the Ti cards arrive the Radeon LE MB will be an attractive card for the price The extra RAM makes the Radeon LE MB perform about like a Radeon MB despite MHz the clock speed gap ATI has made notable progress on its drivers and the Radeon GPU is still more advanced in some ways than even the GeForce I m finding myself recommending ATI cards to friends and readers who want a good all-around card at a decent price As for the GF Ti it should hit store shelves near the end of April The cards will come in two basic configurations a MHz core and MB of DDR memory at MHz for around and a MHz core paired with MB DDR memory at MHz don t ask for about Once those cards arrive the Radeon LE will have some real competition I expect the prices of both the LE and the Ti to drop pretty quickly Click to expand Seems the GeForce series outperforms the ATI s in about all the benchmarks nbsp

Stupid me, decided to update drivers of above graphics card on my late husband's now fairly old PC (with small CRT monitor, as well!).
Now, instead of 1024 X 768 I have 640 X 480 (or whatever that res. is), and I've gone through the whole help routine to no avail.
As well, I tried reinstalling the original drivers: my darling man had left a disk.

It seems to me like you are able to find out what the resolution is in the desktop settings correct?

Are you unable to move the slider to increase the resolution? Sometimes after updating the drivers your screen resolution might be set to a default level.

Also, you cannot simply reinstall older drivers. The system will attempt to use the most recent one. You can however attempt to roll back the driver, or uninstall the new one.

However for the life of me I cant quite remember how to do that without an XP pc sitting in front of me.... perhaps someone else can help you out, if I dont re-familiarize myself with it before then.

I do remember it is in the hardware manager, and some tab in the properties menu.

Hardware manager can be found in the xp control panel (clicking on classic view in the top of the left pane may help if it is not already set that way) then you would select the graphics card, video adapter, or whatever it is referred to as and select properties. Somewhere in one of those tabs gives you the option to roll back the driver, or uninstall the current driver.

I've installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my Acer Aspire 5920G.
Before I've installed my Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT drivers everything was just fine.

This blinking sometimes happens in period of few seconds, sometimes it can pass a couple of minutes and I think that while I'm in a game or watching a movie, there's no blinking. It happens so fast, so it doesn't affects on anything I do, but it's so annoying.

So I've reinstalled my drivers, this time I've tried those from Acer website (version, but still my screen was blinking. I've even tried drivers for Vista (Acer website) and the newest beta drivers from Nvidia website (195.55) but blinking is still here.

So can anyone help me with this?

I don't think it's your graphics card. More likely, given the age of the machine, the machine is just worn out. Either the power supply or the motherboard is going bad.

If you have access to another power supply, you could hook it up and see if that improves things. Also, take a look at the capacitors on your motherboard and see if any of them are swollen, or have domed tops like this:

That's a sure sign of age and failure.

Given the age of the PC, it might be worth just replacing it.

A couple of weeks ago I replaced my Geforce 256 by a Geforce 4mx. But as several people advised me I brought it back and bought a Radeon 8500 instead. But after I had built it in I didn`t get a significant performance boost. I got about 30 FPS in JK2 timedemo with both Geforce4mx and Radeon 8500 and about 6000 marks in 3Dmark 99 max also with both cards (vsynch off). In 3Dmark 2001 SE I get about 5100 marks with the Radeon (I donīt know about the Geforce 4mx). What could be the problem or is this all the performance I can expect from a Radeon 8500 and a Celeron 1,2 ?

A:Geforce 4mx = Radeon 8500 ?

Indeed it might be the Celeron the culprit in this equation. Do you know the exact type of Radeon 8500 you have bought ? What drivers are you running ? There are OEM versions circulating with lower specs then the Original Radeon 8500.

Radeon 8500 -> 275 mhz Core / 550 mhz DDRam
Radeon 8500 LE -> 250 mhz Core / 500 mhz DDRam
Radeon 8500 LELE ->225 mhz Core / 450 mhz DDRam

I haven't tested a GF4MX but I've installed 2 Radeon 8500 cards & I must say they worked very well ( granted they were running on AthlonXPs ).

Have you tryed any other games ?

I have a few thought on this but not a fault I have seen before.

First I would remove all cards and mamory and clean the contacts with a soft rubber (up and down the contacts not from end to end) then refit them all, see if there is an improvement.

Try another known good screen.

Try running with just one memory module installed then swap them around to test each one, you might find that one of the modules produces the fault.

If none of the above isolates the problem then it probably is the graphics card.

I just put a second monitor on my GeForce 8600 GT. One via DVI and one is VGA. I found the NVIDIA Control Panel and checked the "Multiple display" setting. If I set it to "As one large horizontal desktop" it almost works like what I want, except it acts as one monitor. I normally use "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" at work, which is how I want it. Is this possible to do? The current setting seems useless, as it extends my taskbar too as well as games across two monitors.

A:Dual screen issue with GeForce 8600 GT

You should be able to use DualView. It says configured independently but that's just in case resolutions are dramatically different. If you have two very similar or identical monitors you just set them up the same in DualView and arrange the crossover to be compatible with your setup (horizontal in this case). The taskbar will go on whichever monitor you designate as the primary and you'll have to use a thirdparty program like MultiMon Taskbar to extend a working taskbar to the other monitor if needed.

ON my BFG graphics card there is an HDTV TV OUT port on it. It also came with an HDTV breakout cable. I have an Xbox 360 Elite and there are 2 sets of audio video cables. The RED,WHITE,YELLOW cable and the BLUE,GREEN,RED HD cable. The colours on the HDTV breakout cable match the colours on the XBOX's HD cables so i figured they mite work. Do any of you know if i will be able to connect my Xbox 360 to my flat screen monitor?

A:BFG nvidia 8500 GT graphics card

The Blue, Red and Green cables are component video cards, capable of carrying a HD signal. The Red and White of the other cable are for the left and right audio channels, and the Yellow is composite video, good for non HD signals.

If you are trying to use the cables to connect the computer or the XBOX to a TV or to a monitor that has component or composite connections on the back of it then they will work with either device.

But if you are trying to connect the XBOX through the computer to display on the monitor then that won't work. You'd need to have a video card or separate PCI card that supports TV input not just output.

Alright hey guys so I have been doing quite a bit of research talked to some friends and other forums and have come to the conclusion that upgrading my gpu will be a good call Anyways after talking to a few people and a few computer experts I have been suggested to upgrade my gpu to a gtx which I think will be great The other issue I came across was whether with want it all gtx970 will 8500 upgrading dell psu xps sure make geforce new to work! and or not the PSU will be able to handle that kind of upgrade So after looking through some other people s suggestions and upgrading dell xps 8500 with geforce gtx970 and new psu want to make sure it will all work! seeing what some other people have done that upgraded their xps I was suggested to go with the EVGA supernova B W power supply PSU -B - -VR the reason behind this one specifically was that it was quite a bit smaller in length so in tern I would be able to fit it in the tower and thats what other people have used when upgrading their xps Anyways sorry this is lengthy but I want to make sure this is a good idea whether or not everything will fit properly and any other general suggestions thanks

Probably the same issue as this because if you see at the bottom of that topic it describes GT Vista-32-bit, to 8500 start-up Nvidia & unable the Nvidia 8500 GT & Vista-32-bit, unable to start-up blue screen and the memory error I get that too but on start-up the only way I can get this desktop to work is to run it in safe mode or restore back to before I did anything and still had the disabled topic html it didn t let me post the actual link but there s the ending bit I ve had this problem for about a month now and I ve tried updating drivers with newer drivers I ve tried the drivers from the CD Which worked out to be a total disaster in which it made it worse for some reason the basic drivers that I started out with but none of that worked I tried everything in the other topic that was suggested as well but still nothing worked It would be much appreciated if anyone even knew remotely what s wrong or has some kind of solution nbsp

I have a 8500GT Graphics card
On my Acer flat screen monitor (viewing area 33.5cm across x 27cm down) circles do not appear round, except at a resolution of 1280x1024 where the text on menu & tool bars, dektop icon descriptions, etc appear tiny, almost impossible to read.
All other resolutions circles appear as ovals.
I have set the screen font size to 96dpi as a result of this advice:
Any advice to have this problem solved will be appreciated.

Your link appears to be broken.

If the circles are proportional at 1280 x 1024, they should be proportional also at 1024 x 768, 800 x 600 and 640 x 480.

Hi everyone have been trawling the forums here this evening looking for answers - a wealth of knowledge but none that I could find to help my situation So here I am post number In short this is an older PC build that has worked pretty much flawlessly for Not able to 8800 up GTS screen set correctly dual Nvidia on gt years the last of those happily with dual screens and dual booting Win Home and various iterations of Linux - a Samsung quot Syncmaster and a BenQ quot months ago I made a stupid error when playing around with a VM and nuked the Windows install so just switched over to the Ubuntu partition and kept at it Finally found time to reinstall Win this weekend just been but I cannot for the life of me get the dual screen back up and running properly At first it wouldn't even Not able to set up dual screen correctly on Nvidia 8800 GTS recognise the BenQ - problem was cable independent and DVI output independent Eventually through some fluke of unplugging Not able to set up dual screen correctly on Nvidia 8800 GTS replugging powering on off I managed to get it to recognise the BenQ but at x max resolution It also showed up as a quot generic non-PNP monitor quot rather than the BenQ quot blurb I used to get Through some more trial and error I used the Nvidia software that came with the latest drivers to force a non-standard resolution x - native for this panel This worked Briefly It will now work quite happily on a fresh boot but any sign of power management PNP hardware scan or wake from sleep and I'm back to the Samsung only and nothing but a reboot will recover it To answer the obvious questions that come to my mind Hardware is absolutely unchanged from working Hardware has not been moved in any way ONLY difference between working install and non-working install as best I can tell is Win Home vs Ultimate Both bit Monitor continues to be detected properly as a BenQ quot in Ubuntu so it would appear the monitor is still quite OK All drivers have been updated to the latest to the best of my knowledge Win install is current fully updated and activated Thanks in advance for any and all help Axis

A:Not able to set up dual screen correctly on Nvidia 8800 GTS

Download the latest video drivers from nvidia, a new driver just came out.

Do a custom clean install of the video drivers.

After that`s done make sure you choose - extend these displays - in screen resolution

right click the desktop, choose screen resolution, extend these displays

It should now work perfectly

Hmmm, can you try someone elses card?

It most likely is the card, based on age of the card.

Try testing your card using the memtestg80 program from here:

At work we are using M9 laptops with the Nvidia graphics card.

We have these laptops docked on Mobile extension hardware

I set the laptop up to display to two external monitors which works well, until we want to undock the laptop for when the laptop are needed to take home.

When they switch back on the laptop it will appear as the secondary screen and wont be useable.

I was wondering if there is any settings that I can change to make it display the two external monitors when docked and display just the laptop screen when undocked.

I am aware that there is the display device change utility but this doesnt offer two external monitors it only offers external/internal.

We are running Windows XP.

Thanks in advance.

A:Tecra M9 - Nvidia Dual Screen Mobile extension problem

Do you have the latest BIOS installed?
Have you installed the latest Display Driver, Common Modules, and Mobile Extension software? (download them from the Toshiba website)

Have you tested it with a fresh Toshiba installation of XP (by running the factory Recovery)?
Maybe it a software/driver problem if you have a generic installation of XP installed.

I saw it advertised as DC on one website only, no where else does it say that. I have seen other brands all prominently displaying the DC banner but not this one. Clarification on this matter would be appreciated. Thx lots peoples.

A:Solved: Is all PC2-8500 memory dual channel?

In matched pairs it will run dual channel. The memory controller determines that. You just need to have matching sticks installed to make sure it runs properly.

GT 220: (scroll down past the 210)

8600 GT: (The right Column)

A:NVIDIA GT 220 VS Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT

Why bother? If you want to upgrade from an 8600GT - you need to buy a card that has a noticable difference.

For example... the 9500/9400GTs are also pretty much re-badged 8600s. Think of the 220 as a smaller and cheaper to make version of the 8600GT with blu-ray decoding abilities. Its more like a bit better version of the 8600GTs.... that costs $65~95.

An ATI 4670 is about $60~95. Heres a nice one at $80:

But for real big speed bumps - look at ATI 4800s/5700s or at least a GTX 260... or even the GT250 (which is a 9800GT which is a 8800GT - UGH! )
These cards are about $ 120~200.

Your power supply will also be important too. Do you know your brand and model number?

Also your computers own performance.

Recently I bought a ATI Radeon 8500 64Mb. Since I installed it, my screen flickers very often and I can only see lines of color. It happens randomly in different programs (Outlook, IE, Netscape, games, etc...).

I do have the latest video driver, latest BIOS update for my motherboard... I even tried the drivers from, but the same problem occurs... I must say that this is my first AGP video card, so I do not know if it is a hardware problem with the video card, the motherboard (which is not a recent one: Abit BX6 rev.2), a driver problem or something else... paula89, welcome to the Seven Forums.

To answer your question, quite simply you don't. There is not now and never will be a Windows 7 driver for that card, as Nvidia dropped support for it a long time ago. The best you can do is the last XP driver,

ForceWare Windows XP/2000 32-bit

Probably have to use compatibility mode,

Compatibility Mode

to get it to install. It the rest of the computer is of similar vintage as the video card, there is also a good possibility that the video driver won't install due to the lack of a working AGP/GART driver.

nVidia GeForce GT 240 GDDR3 vs. nVidia GeForce GT 220

your thoughts?

A:nVidia GeForce GT 240 vs. GT 220

The GT 240 is a better card then the GT 220, hence the higher model number. Neither is a great gaming card though, but the GT 240 is good enough for most games. See a benchmark here with both cards and lasts years mid range card and the previous years near top card, the 8800GT:,2475.html

So I've installed the correct driver as prescribed by one of the members off the NVidia forums. It comes to a part, half-way into the installation that it freezes and you still get that laggy graphics. Now in device driver it says that "Video Controller" it says that "Drivers for this device is not installed. (Code 28)" And I have a choice to "reinstall driver" which is confusing... also have a few choices to update, rollback and uninstall driver. It's been an issue for the past 3 months, although it has worked once when I attempted to install a game - and mysteriuously enabled me to "enable driver".

Thanks a lot if you can help.
